I Was Anastasia by Ariel Lawhon
Genre: HISTORICAL FICTION
About: Ariel Lawhon, a rising star in historical suspense, has set her sights on one of history's most beguiling mysteries: Did Anastasia Romanov survive the Russian Revolution, or was Anna Anderson, the woman who notoriously claimed her identity, an impostor?
Russia, July 17, 1918 Under direct orders from Vladimir Lenin, Bolshevik secret police force Anastasia Romanov, along with the entire imperial family, into a damp basement in Siberia where they face a merciless firing squad. None survive. At least that is what the executioners have always claimed.
Germany, February 17, 1920 A young woman bearing an uncanny resemblance to Anastasia Romanov is pulled shivering and senseless from a canal. Refusing to explain her presence in the freezing water or even acknowledge her rescuers, she is taken to the hospital where an examination reveals that her body is riddled with countless, horrific scars. When she finally does speak, this frightened, mysterious young woman claims to be the Russian Grand Duchess.
As rumors begin to circulate through European society that the youngest Romanov daughter has survived the massacre at Ekaterinburg, old enemies and new threats are awakened. The question of who this woman is and what actually happened to Anastasia creates a saga that spans fifty years and three continents. This thrilling page-turner is every bit as moving and momentous as it is harrowing and twisted.

A free lance writer for The Japan Times, Baye Mcneil author of "Loco in Yokohama" and "Hi! My Name is Loco and I am a Racist" is no foreigner to this type of behavior in Japanese media. Back in 2015 he launched a campaign to not air a jpop group, Momorio Clover Z and Rats&Star, segment on tv due to the insensitivity of them performing in blackface on Fuji TV, which was successful, yet here we are again.
Baye McNei, who also lives in Japan and was bringing in the New Years watching Gaki no Tsukai, was quick to call out this issue.
Note to japanese performing in #BlackFace: #Blackness is not a punchline nor a prop. Need jokes? Get better writers. Need a black character, get a black actor that speaks Japanese. There are several! But please #StopBlackfaceJapan #日本でブラックフエイス止めて not a good look! pic.twitter.com/lN0E3bWsgY— Baye McNeil (@Locohama) December 31, 2017
Once again, this issue of black face is met with controversy as some users from Japan/Non-Japanese/Weebs have told Baye McNeil that this is just Hamada showing his love and imitation of Eddie Murphy.
Have you actually paid any attention to how much detail Hama-chan(the comedian) cares about? The clothes, shoes, he really wanted to be Eddy Murphy. We can see his love and respect for Eddy Murphy’s epic comedy. BUT YOU DON’T. You see minstrel show, slaves and hate. pic.twitter.com/FfU89HJEEA— SweetHomeはそばかす大好き💌 (@photonka) January 2, 2018
and that racism is only an American problem as well as its problems with black face.
But just the same, there have been people calling out this type of behavior both Japanese, and non Japanese alike.
Cannot express how I feel shame and awful....#StopBlackFaceJapan— nanatea (@nanatea) December 31, 2017
This comedian should be boycotted.
There is nothinyg funny/laugh, there is ugly racism here.
Baye McNeil says he too is conflicted since he knows that their is a naive sense of why these things are done but just the same as he has said in an interview for the Huffington Post Japan, that painting one's skin black for jokes is not funny and that this act affects others. He also worries that if this problem isn't fully addressed now, then these antics may carry into the Tokyo 2020 olympics which would make the world view Japan as a very ignorant country.

Taylor Swift's legal squad has filed a motion in federal court requesting a judge to dismiss a lawsuit filed by songwriters Nathan Butler and Sean Hall in September over claims that Swift's 2014 hit "Shake It Off" infringed on the copyright of their 2001 hit "Playas Gon' Play."
“There can be no copyright protection in ‘playas, they gonna play and haters, they gonna hate,’ because it would impermissibly monopolize the idea that players will play and haters will hate,” Swift’s lawyers wrote in the motion filed in U.S. district court in the Central District of California. “Plaintiffs’ claim to being the only ones in the world who can refer to players playing and haters hating is frivolous… Providing a copyright monopoly in the phrase would prevent others from sharing the idea that players play and haters hate.”
Variety and Indiewire's predictions of the Golden Globes' film winners:
-- Best Motion Picture – Drama: both have “The Shape of Water” as the winner (since it has the most overall nods)

-- Best Director: “The Shape of Water”s Guillermo del Toro for both

Who was your breakout movie star this year, ONTD?
Next week, a Rollins-centric episode which seems to be inspired by the Gypsy Rose Blanchard case, because TV writers still think that's surprising somehow. Fortunately, this episode will also mark the return of M.E. Warner (Tamara Tunie), so at least that should be fun.
In far more exciting news, Jack McCoy is back!
Sam Waterston will be appearing in episode 13, incidentally the same episode which will introduce the new ADA played by Chicaco Justice's Philip Winchester. Waterston will only make one guest appearance, but Winchester will join the main cast as Peter Stone, the son of old school Mothership character Ben Stone, who was Jack McCoy's predecessor.
ONTD, did you watch last night's totally unpredictable conclusion to the Grandma Brooke Shields storyline? Were you surprised by the identity of Noah's kidnapper? Or were you expecting it, because you read all my previous posts in which I predicted every single thing that happened, literally months in advance? Because I have actually watched television before?
Did you watch? What did you think?

-- Oscar winner Helen Mirren
-- Oscar winner Emma Stone

According to ENEWS, Brad has been casually dating.
"He has been on a few dates but nothing serious. It's complicated for him to date and not a huge priority in his life."
"He can be flirty by nature though. He will always hold the door and suggests that people go ahead of him in line. He's just that kind of person. He's the nicest guy in the world."

-FOX's new singing competition premiered tonight and it was interesting to say the least.
-There seems to be a bit of confusion about how the show works exactly so here's the breakdown:
1. The show started out with 4 singers who were already chosen to take over the 4 seats.
2. Each week they bring in a group of singers to potentially challenge and take one of the 4 seats.
3. The challengers must get all 4 votes from the judges in order to challenge one of The Four.
4. If chosen, the challenger will choose which of The Four to battle and the in house audience chooses the winner.
5. No one from The Four can be challenged twice within an episode.
Basically the show is like The Hunger Games, no ones spot is safe and can challenged each week. At the end of the show it appears The Four will battle each other to see who takes home the prize.
( Collapse )
It wasn't horrible but Diddy should not be a Judge and you don't get to bond with the singers.
