Eminem doesn't think Taylor necessarily needs to comment on Trump

Eminem gave an interview, in which he talked about speaking out about public opinions.

He says people need to look into themselves in order to decide whether or not they should say it out loud publicly. In addition, he says it's not really anyone's responsibility to be talking about politics.

Comedian TJ Miller denies accusations of sexual assault, punching female college classmate

The statement by TJ Miller and his wife:
We met this woman over a decade ago while studying together in college, she attempted to break us up back then by plotting for over a year before making contradictory claims and accusations. She attempted to discredit both of our voices and use us against one another by trying to portray Kate to be a continuous abuse victim of T.J. (further efforts to hurt the two of us). She was asked to leave our university comedy group because of worrisome and disturbing behavior, which angered her immensely, she then became fixated on our relationship, and began telling people around campus “I’m going to destroy them” & “I’m going to ruin him.”
We are confident that a full consideration of accounts from and since that time will shed light and clarity on the true nature of not only this person’s character, and also on the real facts of the matter. (See the e-mails referenced).
We stand together in stating this is nothing more than an unfortunate resurgence of her lies designed to wreak havoc on two happily married people in the public eye.

Fans petition to have "The Last Jedi" removed from canon

  • The Last Jedi is, officially the most divisive Star Wars film to date. Yes, even counting the prequels.

  • Butthurt fans are campaigning to have The Last Jedi removed from the Star Wars canon. Personally I see no point to it, because then we wouldn't have Leia and Amilyn being BAMF's. Also...they already ruined things by removing The Star Wars Holiday Special from canon, so...why?

  • "Star Wars has long been a story about two things, the Jedi and Luke Skywalker," Walsh wrote. "After over 260 novels where we could follow the adventures of that great hero you, the Walt Disney Company decided to strike all of that from the official canon and wiped out three decades of lore. We were excited to see Episode VII to see how our heroes lives turned out since you took away what we knew. We saw the death of Han Solo, we saw less than a minute of Luke Skywalker."

ONTD Original™ - Christmas Edition: Make the Yueltide Gayer

Back in 2013, Hallmark caused some controversy when they released a Christmas ornament that switched out "gay" for "fun" when citing the lyrics of "Deck the Halls", because in our overtly-politically correct culture it's too stressful to stare at the word "gay" or perform basic human decency!

But it begs the question – where are our Christmas movies? When will we start getting our own trashy Hallmark gay romcoms? When will Netflix make "A Christmas Princess"? How many years do we gottta wait for trash people to die off and for capitalism to appeal to our demographics as the ice caps melt?

Out of morbid curiousity, I decided to venture out and bring the best (or honestly, least terrible) of them back to you. I had three basic requirements:

  1. If it isn't about Christmas, it has to be at least set around the time period or in the month of December.

  2. It doesn't have to be centrally gay, but it has to have at least one explicitly gay character.

  3. They have to physically speak.

This is part one, focusing on feature films and lower-scale Indie/DTD/TV-Movies. Each category will have ten entries in no particular order of favorability. How did I fare? Is there anything worth watching?

Prompt ONTD: If you could make any LGBT Christmas film, what would it be?

Also: Did I miss anything? Any favorites or recommendations?

Part 2: TV and more, coming soon... (I promise it'll be much more diverse I had barely anything to work with here)

The insane true story of how Titanic got made (a '20 years of Titanic' commemorative piece)

- the author talks about what made Titanic not only a massive box office success but also an obsession for so many people all over the world, about Leomania and Kate & Leo's meteoric rise to fame

- talks about how James Cameron came up with the idea for the film (his original pitch was "R&J on a boat"), studio/executive resistance bc he wasn't exactly known for romance films & "had no business trying to tell a story about love", how it went massively over budget almost immediately, and Cameron's insane work ethic and v strict work environment

- mentions how so much attention was paid to historical accuracy (all the carpets in the movie were made by the same company that had created the original ones, real crystal replicas of the chandeliers were commissioned bc otherwise they wouldn't chime realistically, most props - from ashtrays to cutlery to teacups - were stamped with the White Star Line emblem, etc.)

- her interpretation of the movie is that Jack represents a world which can exist without collapsing in the absence of hierarchy, order and masculinity, and how for that precise reason he saved Rose not only from literal death but also from societal & self-imposed prison, and how she ended up discovering her own strength after his death

- mentions what she believes to be a common (and, if true, p interesting) theme in Cameron's films: "In The Terminator, Terminator 2, and Aliens, this idea seems to go hand in hand with getting rid of men — and Titanic follows this example. Even if men aren’t actively oppressing women, Cameron’s movies suggest, they still have a way of holding women back from doing what they need to. Even if all you want is to save John Connor, you’re still a product of Skynet. The best protection you can offer the world is to leave it."

sources 1 & 2
this piece definitely puts the LONG in longread & this is in no way a complete summary, but it's totally worth reading imo. tho tbh this is mostly an excuse for a '20 years of Titanic' post, lol.
ONTD, do you remember Leomania & if so, were you also a victim? how many times have you watched Titanic? what are your fave scenes, if any?
EDIT : btw i think it's only fitting for me to mention that apparently Cameron had originally written Titanic with River Phoenix in mind for Jack's part.

The Last Jedi Is the First Genuinely Sexy Star Wars Movie

-The writer Brogan Morris stated that the original trilogy by George Lucas was not meant to be sexy, and more geared towards family entertainment.
-There was not any impression that the characters were "knocking their boots off" so to speak.
-Rian Johnson in TLJ defies that through allegory.[Spoiler (click to open)]Morris states in his article,"It deals in blatant sexual imagery (think to, on Ahch-To, the eternally erect Force tree and mysterious gushing cavern that both call to Rey) and euphemism."
[Spoiler (click to open)]- Morris said,"For the first time ever, a Sith uses not just mind tricks and manipulation, but also sex appeal to seduce his Jedi prey."
-Morris said,"Leia’s gold bikini moment in Return of the Jedi doesn’t count; even if a grotesque space slug wasn’t constantly slobbering on Carrie Fisher in those scenes, director Richard Marquand’s camera is entirely passionless."
-Basically,the color red (signify passion/lust/sex) with both Kylo and Rey's scenes/color palette. Also Tumblr shippers #Reylo are exploding over this as we speak.

lupita nyong'o and letitia wright for teen vogue

teenvogue With a predominantly black cast, #BlackPanther is set to make film history. In our #Volume5 issue, we sat down with two of it's leading ladies, Oscar winner @lupitanyongo and rising star @letitiawright to talk about ushering a diverse new chapter into the superhero-movie space.👊 📷: @amytroostphotography Presented by @madebygoogle (Swipe for more)

Playing [Shuri] was so refreshing. She’s strong, and she can kick butt. She’s intelligent, she loves Wakanda, and she loves creating technology to protect her people. But you see when she’s scared, when she’s frightened, when she’s afraid for her family. Even with some of the male characters [in the movie], you see moments when they are weak. Shuri was the sort of character I went home and studied to find out the reason she does things. — Letitia Wright

Ryan [Coogler] made a point of avoiding the expected female-rival narrative. In this genre, where spandex is involved, oftentimes the women are pitted against each other. In our story, there are so many different women holding their own space. Women may be in competition with each other, sure, but that doesn’t necessarily mean there’s an absence of love or respect. Shuri is the sister to the Black Panther and the leader of technological pursuits, and Nakia is someone who has a complicated history with the Black Panther and is a warrior in her own right. You see them work together, and you see a dynamic that is really encouraging. Making this film awakened me. I walked away from this experience feeling extremely supported, and I felt challenged. — Lupita Nyong'o

ONTD Original Fun Post: Celebrating Brittany Murphy's Life

Brittany Murphy, who would have turned 40 last month, died 8 years ago today, December 20. While this post will touch up on her death for the sake of context, the main focus will be her life: her own personal 'clueless' moments, the men who have come and gone, the women who have stayed, and much more. ♡

"I’ve done many videos of the Metuchen Country Fair in New Jersey. The most memorable moment was when this little girl, Brittany Murphy, who came up to Ryk Schoonhiem in this Oct. 20th, 1990 clip and asked him “Would you like a children’s perspective?” She had so much life and energy that I told Ryk to hand the mic over to her. This video was taken before she became a famous Television star. Wouldn’t TMZ love to get their hands on this tape. Google her name and see for yourself how much of a name she made for herself. You’ll see her multiple times on the David Letterman Show. Same happy bubbly personality. May her soul rest in peace."—Carl K. Sylvester
