Brit Marling Writes About Harvey Weinstein and Consent

Some interesting notes:

  • She originally studied economics and briefly worked at Goldman Sachs before delving into acting

  • Became frustrated with the Hollywood casting process and quit auditioning to create her own material

  • Met with Weinstein in 2014 after her Sundance successes, was also propositioned by him with alcohol, massages and showers

  • Notes how women (especially WOC) barely have any power in Hollywood filmmaking and often fall prey to the Weinsteins of Hollywood because the men have power both artistically and financially over them

  • Gives interesting econ history of how women have been systematically economically and legally disadvantaged

  • Notable quote: "The real danger inside the present moment, then, would be for us all to separate the alleged deeds of Cosby, Ailes, O’Reilly, or Weinstein from a culture that continues to allow for dramatic imbalances of power. It’s not these bad men. Or that dirty industry. It’s this inhumane economic system of which we are all a part."

First trailer for Daniel Day-Lewis's supposed final Oscar bait, 'Phantom Thread'

Synopsis from Focus Features: Set in the glamour of 1950’s post-war London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville) are at the center of British fashion, dressing royalty, movie stars, heiresses, socialites, debutants and dames with the distinct style of The House of Woodcock.

Women come and go through Woodcock’s life, providing the confirmed bachelor with inspiration and companionship, until he comes across a young, strong-willed woman, Alma (Vicky Krieps), who soon becomes a fixture in his life as his muse and lover. Once controlled and planned, he finds his carefully tailored life disrupted by love. With his latest film, Paul Thomas Anderson paints an illuminating portrait both of an artist on a creative journey, and the women who keep his world running. “Phantom Thread” is Paul Thomas Anderson’s eighth movie, and his second collaboration with Daniel Day-Lewis.

Today on The View the panel celebrates Meghan McCain's birthday and interviews her father senator McCain. The senator also gives an update on his brain cancer battle. John also gives Meghan a picture of the two of them for her birthday and makes her cry.

The infamous video from the 2008 election is shown and discussed where a woman says to McCain during a town hall that she can't trust Obama because 'he's an arab' and McCain takes the microphone from her to defend Obama's character. The senator also plugs his new upcoming memoir that is being released in April 2018, talks draft dodgers (aka Trump), being able to actually fix the ACA and more!

Six Things We Know From Watching Harry Styles At The BBC

1. The Reason Behind Harry's Boot Choice Is More Than Just Style
There was an incident during the early 1D days where they got mobbed by a crowd and fans pretty much stole his trainers directly from his feet and that's why he doesn't wear them anymore. Boots are not only more aesthetically pleasing, they're also harder to take off his feet.

2. Harry Proves He'd Be Great With Your Grandma
They go and play Bingo at a care home, where Harry charms the old ladies, and also try their hands at axe throwing.

3. You Definitely Won't Expect The Throwback Facts He Shares
The first song he ever remembers learning the words to is by Shania Twain and the first time he realised he wanted to be on stage was while watching the little boy in Sister Act 2 sing his "Oh Happy Days" solo.

There are 3 more (about Dunkirk, his career focus and music choices) at the SOURCE.
Harry Styles At The BBC is set to air on the eve of the 1st of November. Will you be watching, ONTD?

Kelly Clarkson: "When I was really skinny, I wanted to kill myself. I was miserable"

"When I was really skinny, I wanted to kill myself. I was miserable, like inside and out, for four years of my life," Kelly Clarkson says. "But no one cared, because aesthetically you make sense."

Clarkson, who was signed to Clive Davis' RCA Records at the time, calls it a "very dark time" in her career. "I thought the only way out was quitting. I, like, wrecked my knees and my feet, because all I would do is put in headphones and run," she says. "I was at the gym all the time."

Michael Bay to produce live action teen version of Dora the Explorer

Because 2017 insists on being 2017, we now have sexist asshole and all around basura Michael Bay producing a live action version of the Dora the Explorer (if you need a refresher on some of Michael Bay's horrible ways, check out this recent post). The movie was previously being developed by an entirely different team, but somebody somewhere thought it would be a great idea to give it to Bay. Likely at Bay's pervy insistence, Dora will be a teenager in this live action adaptation instead of her 7/8 year old self in the iconic Nickelodeon cartoon. The movie will be written by Nick Stoller, who wrote/directed movies like Storks and shows like Friends from College.

Celebrating 10 Years of Stardust

  • This year marks the 10th anniversary of Matthew Vaughn's 'Stardust', based on the novel by Neil Gaiman. Released in August 2007 in the United States, it flopped financially, however it was released two months later, in October, to more critical acclaim.

  • Charlie Cox's first starring role, it also stars Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Robert DeNiro, and features Henry Cavill, Rupert Everett, Peter O'Toole, Sienna Miller, and Ben Barnes in supporting roles, with Ian McKellen narrating.

  • The film is now regarded highly by many. Vaughn had considered making a sequel set in 1960s England, “with these mad kings and princes and princesses running around London”, but the film hadn't made enough money for the studio to get behind it.

  • Gaiman, who calls the story "a variation of 'It Happened One Night;", says that "I sort of feel like my grounding in comics was actually very useful because in my head, that's just the Earth-Two version of Stardust [...] which has Robert De Niro and stuff. And I get people who come to the book from having loved the movie who are really disappointed at some of the stuff that isn't there that Matthew brought.”
