mother! gets an F from CinemaScore

  • CinemaScore is a market research company that polls audiences in key markets on a film's opening weekend to predict the long-term box office forecast for movies.

  • Scores range from A+ to F

  • Since they only poll audiences members who are there for opening weekend scores are usually high (in the A-B range) anything lower is considered bad

  • According to Wikipedia (Op note: I know, I know) only 11 other films have recieved an F grade from audiences including the remakes of Solaris and The Wickerman

NPR Covers Taylor Swift's Silence on White Supremacy

This story was introduced with these quotes:

"They [white supremacists] think that, hey, you know, she's blonde, she's white, and she secretly hates the Jews."

The founder of the Daily Stormer said: "The entire alt right patiently awaits the day when we can lay down our swords and kneel before her throne as she commands us the go forth and slaughter the subhuman enemies of the Aryan race." He also said, "It's an established fact that Taylor Swift is secretly a Nazi and is simply waiting for the time when Donald Tr**p makes it safe for her to come out an announce her Aryan agenda to the world."

Brooke Gladstone interviews Mitch Sunderland who broke the story last year after interviewing M*lo Yiannopolous at The Grove mall when they ran into an alt-right girl at Neiman Marcus, "Shake It Off" came on, and that girl started singing and dancing and singing along. He saw the same thing at CPAC, a conservative convention, where young Republican girls were also singing to "Shake It Off."

Mainstream conservatives think she's a Republican because of her silence. She has the potential to lose out on a lot of money if she comes out against Tr**p -- not unlike the Dixie Chicks when Natalie Maines said she was ashamed Dubya is from Texas -- because her 1989 tour mostly played in suburban towns and the south which mostly went for Tr**p in the general election.

Mitch Sunderland notes that her response to attention from Nazis is complete silence, and Nazis view silence as approval. Host Brooke Gladstone notes it's not controversial to condemn white supremacy. And yet...

They also discuss how her music video "Wildest Dreams" hearkens back to colonial white dominance in Africa and how "Shake It Off" appropriates from Black culture.

So Taylor Swift's people have known about the Nazi obsession with Taylor Swift since last year, Taylor hasn't said anything to condemn anti-Semitism and white supremacy, and Nazis assume this means she approves of their agenda. This story is getting attention from the mainstream media and Swifties can no longer say she can't be aware of it because she's not on social media anymore.

Reporter Tweets from the Juggalo March on Washington

The Juggalos are marching on Washington for legitimate reasons today. The FBI classifies them as a gang, so any juggalo arrested for nonviolent misdemeanors is likely to get a much harsher sentence. The gang classification also means they can be discriminated against in housing and employment. Washington DC correspondent for the Toronto Star reporter Daniel Dale interviewed one woman who was fired from her probation officer job because of her clown status.

DC Democratic Socialists showed up in solidarity:

Dale notes that the rally has a few hundred people and is very calm and peaceful. There is also a so-called "mother of all rallies" pro-Tr**p demonstration that is "tiny." No confrontation so likely.

Friday Box Office Estimates

- IT holds up better than expected for a R-rated horror film and is on track to be the highest-grossing R-rated September release ever, fueling rumors that Warner Bros. has yet to greenlight the sequel due to considering splitting the series into three films.

- Mother underperforms and receives a rare F rating from Cinemascore, making it three high-profile box-office disappointments in a row for Jennifer Lawrence after Passengers and Joy, putting into question her box-office bankability as a lead actor outside of franchise films. (Has she ever even led a film to box-office success outside a franchise?)

Leah Remini Says Jada Pinkett Smith Is a Scientologist

In an interview with the Daily Beast, Leah Remini said, "I know Jada's in. I know Jada's in. She's been in Scientology a long time."

She said she never saw Will Smith at the Celebrity Centre [that's how they fucking spell it, the British way even tho LRH was American], but says, "I had seen [Jada] at the Scientology Celebrity Centre all the time." She also remarked on how both Will and Jada opened up a Scientology school, but they since closed it.

If they were scientologists, that might explain why their kids are a little on the weird side.

Also, are you ready for Leah Remini to accept an Emmy onstage Sunday? The editors for the live show better be fucking ready and have their cameras pointed at Elisabeth Moss!! Although I bet she leaves her seat as soon as Leah's category is announced lol. Oop I didn't realize the show wasn't up for any more categories. I'm so mad we didn't get to see that live. I hope Leah presents a category and they cut to Elisabeth Moss then! And I'm glad Leah won!

Emily Ratajkowski Calls Out a French Magazine for Photoshopping Her Lips and Breasts

the original, non-retouched photo
"Everyone is uniquely beautiful in their own ways. We all have insecurities about the things that make us different from a typical ideal of beauty. I, like so many of us, try every day to work past those insecurities. I was extremely disappointed to see my lips and breasts altered in photoshop on this cover. I hope the fashion industry will finally learn to stop trying to stifle the things that make us unique and instead begin to celebrate individuality."

He posted an Instagram video apologizing to his wife and kids for something, we're not sure what, but it's related to cheating allegations back in July when he was photographed outside a club in Miami in a car with some woman. If you recall his wife recently posted on instagram shading his ex and implying he'd never cheat on ha cause shes different~. Well, this happened...

- Someone tried to extort money from him in exchange for not exposing his mistakes so he owned up to them instead
-  says "I made a bad error in judgement and I put myself in an environment where only bad things can happen and they did. And in doing that, I know I'm gonna hurt the people closest to me, who I've talked to and apologized to, being my wife and my kids."

Marc Jacobs Faces Criticism for Cultural Appropriation Again

- in his nyfw fashion show for his spring 2018 collection, marc jacobs had white models wearing head wraps
- lead hairstylist guido palau says he considered the looks to be inspired by '70s glam'
- people have been criticising this, saying that head wraps have historically been worn by african and african-american women, and even today black women wearing them have been told that they look unprofessional
- marc jacobs received criticism last year for having white models in dreadlocks and responded with "I don't see color or race - I see people. I'm sorry to read that so many people are so narrow minded... Love is the answer. Appreciation of all and inspiration from anywhere is a beautiful thing. Think about it."
