He thinks that SNL “gave up” on him, but also on the character of President Obama :
“If you really noticed, for the last year and a half, they didn’t do any Obama sketches, I was like, ‘Just let me do my character and we’ll be fine.’ [They] didn’t want to do that.”
In 2013, his involvement in adding more black performers and writers to the show : “I’m the reason it happened but, I almost freaking lost my job.”
He doesn’t hold any ill will toward the show or boss Lorne Michaels :
“Ain’t no beef with Lorne… we’re on good graces.”
“I met Lorne Michaels and I ain’t been broke ever since.”
