ONTD Original: 15 Established Actors Who Profited From Whitewashing

We all know it can be hard to put food on the table, so in this list we're only looking at actors that were already well established and had successful careers when they chose to accept a whitewashed role.

Starting of course with...

1. Scarlett Johansson

Role: Major Motoko Kusanagi in Ghost in the Shell.

Original race/ethnicity: Japanese.

What's the excuse? Producer Steven Paul tried to justify the casting decision: "There [are] all sorts of people and nationalities in the world in Ghost in the Shell. We’re utilising people from all over the world. (...) There’s Japanese in it. There’s Chinese in it. There’s English in it. There’s Americans in it. I don’t think it was just a Japanese story. Ghost in the Shell was a very international story, and it wasn’t just focused on Japanese; it was supposed to be an entire world. That’s why I say the international approach is, I think, the right approach to it."

By Paul's logic, you can take a specifically Japanese story, make all the leads and a good deal of the background characters white, and voilà! You have an international story!

Funnily enough, Johansson's character will only be referred to as 'the major' rather than her actual name, Motoko Kusanagi, and yet her mother will be played by a Japanese actress. Rumors have started to circulate that the film team has attempted to use CGI to digitally alter white actors so they could portray Asian background characters.

Scarlett Johansson as 'the Major'

her eyes are taped back. Wasn't this project enough of a travesty already

Let me know if I mislabeled any characters. ONTD, how can whitewashing be stopped?

Julia Stiles Addresses Diversity and Police Shootings on The Daily Show

On diversity, when Trevor Noah says the world needs more diverse films like Save the Last Dance: "We need a lot more than a dancing movie."

On the police shootings, she says in part: "I can’t not address what has happened today. I just don’t understand how many more people — husbands and fathers and sons — have to die before something changes. The change has to be systemic...I understand that police officers have an incredibly dangerous job, but still it’s too much. It’s been too much for many years. It’s been too much for decades."

Photos show the "Butterfly" songstress gazing toward the ocean horizon. Mariah's two gifted children were also present, and showered their talented mother with affection. Pegg and Quinto responds to George Takei

- Simon says it's unfortunate the movies haven't featured an LGBT character until now.
- Says that introducing a new character as gay wouldn't work because that character would be defined by his sexuality, which is tokenism, and that using a pre-established and beloved character makes it one of his many personal aspects, not his defining characteristic.
- Says there's nothing to suggest that Sulu in this timeline was ever straight or closeted.

- Quinto also responded in a video here (I can't seem to embed.) He basically says he understands that George has his own personal journey with the character but this is an alternate timeline. He says he hopes George can find strength in the positive response, especially from young people.

Madonna visits Kenya, Kenyans attack her on social media

- Kenyans on social media have attacked Madonna who is currently on a visit in Kenya to initiate her charity projects

- Kenyans felt that Madonna and her team did not take time to research on Kenya and ended up misrepresenting Kenya by posting false facts on their social media. Her Instagram account showed a sewer snaking through the Kibera slum. Her caption suggested that the Kibera people needed help as that was the water they were drinking. Saying, "Imagine this is where your water comes from! @shofco is working to change this in Kibera, Africa's largest slum." The false information showed the glaring disconnect between her and the country she was in.

- Most people felt that the singer should have taken her time to document the posh hotel that she slept in, the good roads she was driven on and the other-worldly food that she was served. The tendancy of most foreigners to document only the ugly side of Africa was criticized with people on social media calling Madonna ignorant.

Paul Feig Talks Ghostbusters in New Interview

-He initially turned down the chance to direct it when Ivan Reitman called him since as a straight sequel he didn't get why the Ghostbusters would still be in disgrace all these years later when passing on the mantle to a new team. It was Feig's idea to cast four women after a lunch with Amy Pascal where she asked why no one seemed to want to direct Ghostbusters 3. He'd keep seeing the same names bandied about for possible casting, so when he thought about how his version would be distinct doing an all-female team seemed like a no-brainer. He also likes origin stories hence going the reboot route rather than a sequel which Pascal was onboard for.

-On the Sony e-mail leaks: "Let me address all these head on. A few things went around. One was us trying to keep Ivan Reitman away from this project. Let me say this. You find me any director, anywhere in the world, who says I want another director -who I idolise - standing over my shoulder looking at me. I love Ivan. He was involved every step of the way, he is the king, he is the man that did this. But I had people saying ‘how dare he try and get rid of him’. All I can say is: any filmmaker would make sure they had autonomy. Look at JJ! George Lucas was not on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. You need to be able to do this stuff."

-Paul's not a fan of the trailers for the film but otherwise said he put his all into making the movie and gives Sony credit for not micro-managing the film during production. He is ultimately proud of the film and is trying to be in a more positive place after all this online backlash.

Worst Places People Have Been Playing Pokemon Go

Almost everyone at my workplace is a young millenial tekkie so right now they're all obsessed with Pokemon Go.

For those who don't know, it's a game that came out 3 days ago and connects to your phone's GPS settings. One of my friends almost crashed his car while playing, so I found an article that mentioned all the other addicts and the inappropriate places they've been playing.

I used to play World of Warcraft and one of the mages mentioned his wife was in labor. Everyone told him to quit playing and drive her to the hospital. Pic above is of a guy going after Pidgey while his wife was getting prepped for a C-section.

Kiss Between Christoph Waltz and Skarsgard Deleted from Tarzan

Waltz (who plays the film's villain) kisses Tarzan while he's unconscious. “We pared it back because it was almost too much. It was this really odd, odd moment when Christoph kisses him,” director David Yates told The Times.

“We loved it at the time. But early test audiences were perplexed by it and in the end it just felt too clever and overworked.”

Apparently they also cut out Jane and Tarzan's sex life.

“I liked the idea that they could have great sex, and that it could get quite primal,” he added.

“The cut we ended up with was more muted, and more sensual instead, even though we did touch upon those primal desires.”

Euro Ubisoft Boss States Obvious: AssCreed Movie Won't Make Much; It's Promo for Game Franchise

We are not going to earn a lot of money from it,” says Ubisoft’s European boss, Alain Corre. “It is a lot more a marketing thing, it is also good for the image of the brand. Although we will make some money, it is not the purpose of this movie. The purpose is to bring Assassin’s Creed to more people. We have our core fans, but what we would like is to put this franchise in front of a lot more people who, maybe, will then pick up future Assassin’s Creed games.”

In a further statement, Ubisoft clarified (with a PR statement about all the hardwork and collaboration between game and movie studio) that the purpose of the Assassin's Creed movie is to make a good film, first and foremost.

Katy Perry plans to scalp Taylor Swift on scathing diss track

- Reports claim that Katy Perry has a “scathing” track on her upcoming studio album that will drag Taylor through the pits and put her on serious blast in reply to her 2014 single “Bad Blood.”

- Katy will not let "Bad Blood" go and plans to directly address Taylor's corrupt ways and call-out Taylor's plan to play her peers against each other on the single.

- Although Katy's team shot down the '1984' diss-track rumors last year, sources say Katy has been working on the track all along and that her album will be out sooner than expected.

Youtuber Ethan Klein (H3H3) blasts T-Mobile after a hack attempt, CEO responds.

There has been a wave of Youtubers being hacked lately, Ethan and Hila (H3H3) are the most recent victims.

-Hackers were able to get his sim card after impersonating T-Mobile employees, calling the company saying they were right next to Ethan and T-Mobile gave them their info as well.
-The simcard had all of Ethan's contact and text messages he had saved on it, the reason they needed it was because Youtube requires phone verification and wanted to hack their channel.
-As soon as his phone dropped service and called T-Mobile he was made aware of the situation and it seems fixed, for now.
-He advises everyone to call T-Mobile and request for absolute privacy as its too easy to get anyone's information.

T-Mobile's CEO responded directly to H3H3Production's (Ethan's channel main):

Michael B. Jordon Speaks Out About Alton Sterling and Philando Castile

From MBJ's Instagram:

I've been trying to process all that has occurred in the last few days and I’m still looking for the words to express my pain. The fact is Alton Sterling and Philando Castile were not unfortunate accidents. These are just a few of the countless incidents of violent neglect, poor training and lack of accountability that clearly illustrate one thing: Black people are being disproportionally dehumanized and murdered, this must stop!

I care about the safety of my black brothers and sisters and my blue ones too. There are no adequate words for the fallen officers in Dallas. From the bottom of my heart, I thank them for protecting the peaceful protestors, their courage and effort to support us is what we need more of.

This hits close to home. It could have easily been myself, my little brother, my dad, one of my friends, or any of us. When one of us is murdered because a police officer is “afraid for their life”, it pains us - we feel it. In the wake of these senseless murders, our homes are forever broken; families are left to figure it out. I’m concerned about my mother, my sister, and all my magical black women that are left to pick up the pieces. Often they are not acknowledged or thanked for being on the front line fighting these battles for and with us, but know your continued strength, courage, and unwavering love and support gives us the strength to keep fighting. Finding solutions in these times of survival are seemingly hard to identify but we must continue to keep moving forward. Alternatively, violence is not the answer; it only begets more fear and violence. This is the time to unify; our communities, our churches and our homes. My mission is to channel my anger and energy - along with my love and hope for the future into actively finding solutions. Change will take all of us, we can no longer say or do...Nothing. “Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable. Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.” -MLK"

- Annihilation is directed by Ex-Machina director Alex Garland.
-[Book Synopsis]Area X has been cut off from the rest of the continent for decades. Nature has reclaimed the last vestiges of human civilization. The first expedition returned with reports of a pristine, Edenic landscape; the second expedition ended in mass suicide, the third expedition in a hail of gunfire as its members turned on one another. The members of the eleventh expedition returned as shadows of their former selves, and within weeks, all had died of cancer.

In Annihilation, the first volume of Jeff VanderMeer's Southern Reach trilogy, we join the twelfth expedition. The group is made up of four women: an anthropologist; a surveyor; a psychologist, the de facto leader; and our narrator, a biologist. Their mission is to map the terrain, record all observations of their surroundings and of one anotioner, and, above all, avoid being contaminated by Area X itself.

They arrive expecting the unexpected, and Area X delivers;they discover a massive topographic anomaly and life forms that surpass understanding;but it's the surprises that came across the border with them and the secrets the expedition members are keeping from one another that change everything.

- Stars Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Gina Rodriguez, Oscar Isaac, David Gyasi and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
- Based on book 1 of the Southern Reach Trilogy by Jeff VanderMeer.
- It's set to be released next year.
