On June 28th 2016, around 10pm local, three(?) suicide bombers attacked Istanbul Ataturk Airport, which happens to be the largest and most crowded airport in the country.
(update: 41) people were killed, and
at least 140
(update: 239) of them were injured. Many celebrities, including Apple's Tim Cook, expressed their condolences over the explosion.( Collapse )
> ISIS is blamed, although the organisation didn't claim responsibility. (They never do for attacks in Turkey.)
> They were noticed at the entrance of the international terminal (you have to go through 2 security checks, one at the entrance and one before the passport check. they couldn't pass the first one.)
> The terrorists fired on people with AK-47s, then there were the bombs.
One police officer jumped on one of the bombers when he noticed the bomb, and died.
Another police officer wounded another bomber, and bought everyone time, and he is injured. [Update: The first one I think is not confirmed, and the second officer -- who was apparently a customs maintaining (lost in translation) officer -- died.]
> Twitter, Facebook and Youtube were blocked; cannot be accessed without VPNs. There's also a media ban on explosion videos/images.
> Istanbul Ataturk Airport is currently open and working.
> God knows how many-th explosion since October 2015.
> Government officials say there was no security breach.
> The coverage on national TV channels has been pathetic: Some idiots claim this happened because Turkey is trying to improve its relationship with both Russia, and Israel. (They made a deal with Israel, even.)
According to them, terrorists attacked to the airport to stop tourists from coming. One idiot commented on national tv and said this is a part of a larger problem (true)
and it was all happening because we had constitutional problems (whut)
. Current government is trying to change the constitution to replace the parliamentary system with presidency like US.Sources
Summary of the event:
me.ontd have you ever felt like your government is run a bunch of
[people who could've sued you and won if you told your real feelings about them on social media]?
