Old-ish film gets (finally) new (US) release date

Something Titanic-ish, then If I Stay-ish, then The Mummy Returns-ish. Probably some Gora-complex crap (maybe) and then some Team Mayo versus Team Bollywood.
If you read all the back-end on this (which I have no idea why anyone would), this film almost didn't get finished and has been mostly troubled.
Watch for the set-pieces, the cinematography and the costumes. Do not watch for historical accuracy. It was apparently shown at Sundance.

Natalie Portman in new Miss Dior ad

In this new Miss Dior ad, Natalie Portman plays a runaway bride. Anton Corbijn, the ad's director told Vogue UK: “The story is about escaping, about getting away from all the things that tie you down in life. Natalie Portman was fantastic. She is real, she’s genuine. You can see it on the screen, and people relate to it. I think that this ‘truth’ is more important than beauty. Being a beautiful woman is not enough. She’s a real person, a good person, and her personality makes the difference.”

I usually like these ads just because they're pretty but this one was especially dumb.

Even Republicans Side With Obama Over Huckabee's Beyonce comments

- Huckabee made his OTT comments criticizing the Obamas for taking Sasha and Malia to Beyonce's concerts and labeling her music as "mental poison".

- Iowa caucus-goers seemed to side with the Obamas because they don't like the thought of someone trying to parent someone else's children. (#smallgovernment!) 60% of Republicans and 95% of Democrats surveyed said that Huckabee went too far.

- However 40% of Republicans surveyed are sexually repressed enough to say that Huckabee was mostly right in calling Beyonce's music "mental poison". No word on which white country artist they cling to as a wholesome alternative.

The Mountain from ‘Game Of Thrones’ broke a 1,000-Year-Old weightlifting record

Hafþór Júlíus "Thor" Björnsson, better known as the Mountain from Game of Thrones, took part in this weekend's World's Strongest Viking competition and broke a record that has been part of history for 1000 years.

"The record has been described in Icelandic Saga book,” said reporter Ilkka Kinnunen. “The legend of the Icelander Orm Storulfsson says that he walked three steps with this MONSTER WOODEN LOG which weighed over 650kg/1433 lbs and was 10 m/30 feet long! It took 50 mere mortals to help him placing it on his back! After he took his third step, his back broke under the enormous pressure and he was never the same after that! Thor carried the same 650kg/1433 lbs log for 5 steps. The result was unbelievable and puts Hafthor Julius Bjornsson’s name in Viking history books,”

Björnsson will next compete in the World’s Strongest Man competition.

Everyone wants to ask Kevin Costner about Whitney

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Kevin Costner is out promoting his new movie but all people want to ask him about is Whitney. For example:

From CBS: "I had this unique window. I was right there. I held [Whitney Houston's] hand. And I wasn't able to hold her hand after that. And I watched her journey. I watched the spiral. There was two or three times when I was asked to write her letters, that maybe this would have a level of impact on her. I wrote those letters. I never heard back. I was told that she got them. But she went away."

Meredith Vieira: "I didn’t realize in Bodyguard when I wanted Whitney to play that that was such a brave move. It didn’t seem to me to be a brave move [casting the lead roles as an interracial couple] at all. I thought she was the cutest girl I’ve ever seen."

And about Bobbi Kristina: "I was sad, obviously. That family's under a lot of stress right now, just an enormous amount of stress. I can't imagine... I really hope she's okay."

Suge Knight hospitalized for anxiety attack during court proceedings

While facing the charges for his most recent murder on Tuesday, Suge Knight started to complain of chest pains in court. After pleading not guilty to four felony charges including the murder of Terry Carter and attempted murder of Cle "Bone" Sloan, Knight was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.

Apparently the reason for the trip wasn't a heart attack like people in the court initially expected but an anxiety attack because he "feels bad that somebody he knew is deceased" (according to his attorney anyway).

Anyway he's now back in custody since he's fine.

He was also denied bail since he's a flight risk and is facing life in prison.

Katy Perry: "Taylor‘s the sweetheart. Kanye‘s the villain."

Katy spoke to Elle: "You’ve got to name someone the villain, someone the princess."

On Taylor Swift: “You’ve got to name someone the villain, someone the princess, someone the mom-, the dad-type—you know there always have to be characters. As pop figures, we’re all characters. And the media uses that. Who is the sweetheart, who is the villain? You know. Taylor‘s the sweetheart. Kanye‘s the villain. That’s the narrative.”

On Beyonce: “Oh my God. I’m such a big Beyoncé fan. Beyoncé just put out a video! You’ve got to see this video! I was like, Finallllly. Finally I see you. I don’t see some propaganda version of you. I see you. I relate to who you are.”

On Pop Stars: "It is a hundred times harder a dream than the dream that I dreamt when I was nine...You think you signed up for one thing, but you automatically sign up for a hundred others. And that is why you see people shaving their fucking heads."

Charlie Cox: The Daredevil costume is "pretty tight" and takes four people to put on

"It’s pretty tight, I’m not going to lie. They’ve done such a great job. I can’t wait for fans to really see it. But put it this way, there is no world where you change in a phone box. It takes four people and about 45 minutes. They’re very clever about it, you get three zippers. You zip them all up, but when you have to wee, you just have to zip one down—the wee zipper."

Fox and Friends think Frozen is sexist against men

Some quotes:

The host asks Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America, "From what we've seen, it looks like Frozen depicts men as evil and cold and bumblers, that's what it looks like. What kind of message does that send?"

Penny: "It's not just Disney; Hollywood in general has often sent a message that men are superfluous, that they're stupid, that they're in the way and if they contribute anything to the family, it's a paycheck. And that is not true, and it is not good social science. We want to raise real men. We want to encourage masculinity and not villainize [it]."

Nationwide responds to Superbowl commercial reaction

"Preventable injuries around the home are the leading cause of childhood deaths in America. Most people don't know that. Nationwide ran an ad during the Super Bowl that started a fierce conversation. The sole purpose of this message was to start a conversation, not sell insurance. We want to build awareness of an issue that is near and dear to all of us-the safety and well being of our children. We knew the ad would spur a variety of reactions. In fact, thousands of people visited MakeSafeHappen.com, a new website to help educate parents and caregivers with information and resources in an effort to make their homes safer and avoid a potential injury or death. Nationwide has been working with experts for more than 60 years to make homes safer. While some did not care for the ad, we hope it served to begin a dialogue to make safe happen for children everywhere."

Stan Lee Didnt Think You Wanted A Gay Superhero And Probably Wont Create One

Old Man River

In an interview with SheKnows.com, Lee had some interesting things to say about gay characters in comics and why he hasn't created one yet.

That's something that I can't write about that much because I don't know that much about it. You know what I mean? I can write about things I know about.

It never occurred to me, frankly. If there's suddenly an overwhelming desire on the part of public to have a gay hero, then I would probably try to write one. But, until you mentioned it now, it never occurred to me.

Jack Falahee Says Questions About His Sexuality Are ‘Reductive’

On his own sexuality:
“I don’t think answering who I’m sleeping with accomplishes anything other than quenching the thirst of curiosity. And moreover, it seems reductive. It’s been really interesting to be in the middle of the industry’s fascination with the individual, because I never thought about that growing up or when I was at acting school. No matter how I answer, someone will say, ‘No, that’s not true.’ We still live in this hetero-normative, patriarchal society that is intent on placing everything within these binaries. I really hope that — if not in my lifetime, my children’s lifetime — this won’t be a question, that we won’t need this.”

Tom Cruise to Eat All the BigMacs

So he's supposed to play the 280lbs Barry Seal in new biopic Mena. He's reuniting with Doug Liman who he worked with on Edge of Tomorrow (seriously, I can't stop stanning this movie. Can everyone just ignore the Scilon bit and give this a shot?) and is supposed to gain quite a bit of weight after he's done with Mission Impossible 5.

Barry Seal was a pilot turned drug trafficker turned CIA agent. He was operating from super shady airport in Mena, Arkansas and transported marijuana, cocaine and quaaludes to the US from South America. He was eventually arrested but agreed to work with the CIA to avoid incarceration. He was shot in '86 at a safe house by Colombian hitmen.

After a bidding war, the screenplay was picked up by Universal. Doug Liman replaced Ron Howard. The movie is set to come out sometime in 2016.

'SNL's' Five-Timers Club: Alec Baldwin, Justin Timberlake Share Tales of Hosting 5 (or More) Times

Alec Baldwin (hosted 16 times)
"SNL started before the Internet, but it has been, with regularity, as timely as a blog post. Its roots are vaudeville: jokes and music, followed by more jokes and music. The show became an institution by emulating other institutions and doing it well."

John Goodman (13)
"I love that the show doesn't go on at 11:30 because it's done already; it goes on because it starts at 11:30. There's a huge adrenaline rush to hosting. I was hooked. My first time, I think I was still drunk on the flight home to L.A. the next morning, and I was singing the 'Toonces the Cat' theme at the top of my lungs."

Chevy Chase (8)
"There's that wonderful little thing called 'Weekend Update.' God, I loved writing those jokes. Last year or the year before, I asked Lorne if I could host again, and he said no. He was at my house at my daughter's wedding, and he said, 'You're too old.' But I knew what he meant when I watched and realized the generation up there — everyone is in their 30s, like we were when I was doing the show."
