'Veep' Creator on Paris and Sony Attacks, Rupert Murdoch's Tweet and Self-Censorship Fears

I went online and looked at the cartoons depicting Mohammad that Charlie Hebdo published. To be honest, they weren't very good: Any satirical point was undermined by juvenile humor and a witless desire to shock. The thing is, a proper response to those cartoons is to write something like my previous sentence. It's not to shoot the people who drew them. And CharlieHebdo's proper response to the Jan. 7 horror is to publish the next edition of Charlie Hebdo.

The most dignified answer to any attack on our day-to-day business is to keep our business going day after day. After the marches and the solemn silences, the real defiance comes in the walk back to work. The surest means of proving the terrorists have lost is in not being terrified.

Chris Brown being racist and blaming fans for violence

As reported earlier, five fans were shot this weekend at a Christ Brown concert. He has been known for his violent behaviour, so the fact that this took place at his concert is not a suprise.
Chris, however, feels that the fans who went are at fault.

"No more n--ga parties," he wrote on his Instragram.

TMZ reports that Chris called an emergency meeting with his management team and instructed them to cancel all future performances at venues that he considered "too hood." As if that is going to prevent any more shit going down at his concerts.

Naomi Campbell: "I owe my life to gay men"

Naomi_Campbell

-The good sis Naomi is starting a multi-episode arc on Fox's hip-hop drama, Empire.
-She had a few kind words to say about the LGBT community: "If it wasn't for gay men, I wouldn't exist. Hair, makeup, designer, photographer, stylist, manicure, hairdresser... I owe my life to gay men. It's just what I've grown up with. It's my family."
-She also spoke in support of trans models last year at the GLAAD media awards: "I encourage even more diversity in the fashion world, that includes welcoming trans models to the runways. Much love Lea T and also to Carmen Carrera, and I know Carmen is in the house tonight. She's in the fashion magazines W, Italian Vogue and also just to note the recent Barney's campaign. The truth is LGBT culture and fashion go hand in hand. They flourish in light of making bold and brave statements."

Prosecutor Doesn't Think Mark Wahlberg Deserves A Pardon, Drags His Ass In Boston Globe

mark

"I prosecuted Wahlberg for his actions 26 years ago when I was an assistant attorney general. Now, as a private citizen, I see no reason why that history should be erased from the public record through a pardon," Judith Beals wrote in a Boston Globe op-ed this week.

The former prosecuter is referring to Mark Wahlberg's disgusting racist attacks in 1988. Wahlberg, who served 45 days in prison for beating up two Vietnamese men (HE LEFT ONE MAN BLIND IN ONE EYE!), is now seeking a pardon because he's tried to become a "better person and citizen."

The full opinion piece is an excellent read. Here are some highlight quotes:

"Thanh Lam and Hoa Trinh immigrated to Boston after the Vietnam war, believing in this country’s ideals. Wahlberg’s actions shattered their very sense of themselves, and of the city and country they now called home. But after the case was concluded, one of them told me, 'In this country, justice is possible.'"

"...while the $9.6 million he has raised over the 14 year lifetime of the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation — $2.5 million of which made its way to our community — has undoubtedly done some good, I question whether that truly is 'extraordinary' for someone who earned $32 million last year and who has a net worth of at least $200 million."

"Wahlberg’s status as a 'role model to troubled youth' would not be helped by a public pardon, as he claims. In fact, a formal public pardon would highlight all too clearly that if you are white and a movie star, a different standard applies."

-"We've been preparing for the movie since the last one debuted last year," said Anthony. "So, we've been working on it for a long time now. We're very happy how it's coming along. Some of the Oscars Biggest Snubs This Year

There were a lot of obvious Oscar nominations this year including 'Selma,' 'The Theory of Everything' and 'Boyhood' which all got noms in the Best Picture category. One of the more surprising noms was 'American Sniper' which walked away with 6, including a Best Actor nom for Bradley Cooper, making this his 3rd consecutive nomination. But perhaps the most shocking snub of all was 'Gone Girl' which was only recognized for Best Actress, Rosamund Pike.

Costume porn post! Beautiful images from Jupiter Ascending, ft. Mila Kunis & Eddie Redmayne

 photo HEADER_zpsec44a2ab.jpg

The PR machine for the Wachowski siblings' new sci-fantasy flick Jupiter Ascending is in full swing, with a whole host of publicity photos and concept art released via a virtual look book. Costume designer Kym Barrett went to town with a range of spacey formwear, with a real standout being a stunning wedding dress for Mila Kunis' Jupiter Jones. Juputer Ascending is released in the US on 6 February 2015

Plot summary: Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things.  Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning toilets and an endless run of bad breaks.  Only when Caine (Channing Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along – her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.

I can't wait for this movie - it's so rare to get a big-budget sci-fantasy film not based on existing source material. And those costumes - crazy but brilliant!

First Look: Nicole Kidman & James Franco In Werner Herzog's 'Queen Of The Desert'

Queen Of The Desert is an epic biographical drama about the life of British writer, archaeologist, explorer, cartographer and political officer Gertrude Bell (played by Nicole Kidman). Bell was instrumental in the foundation of the current state of Jordan and Iraq, and served British Intelligence during World War I.

The movie is written and directed by Werner Herzog, also starring James Franco, Damian Lewis and Robert Pattinson. Last summer Herzog teased about Kidman's performance in the film, saying: "Wait for that one. Wait for it. I make an ominous prediction: How good she is.”

Queen of the Desert will premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in February.

Music News: Kim Fowley dies; Black Crowes call it quits

Legendary songwriter and producer Kim Fowley, who worked with the likes of Alice Cooper, Warren Zevon, Cat Stevens and KISS, has died from bladder cancer at 75. In addition to discovering and managing an unknown L.A. group called the Runaways featuring a fifteen-year old Joan Jett, he was part of the one-off studio band The Hollywood Argyles, who had their one big hit in 1960 with "Alley-Oop," in which he sang the vocals while completely plastered. Fowley also produced hits for Paul Revere & The Raiders and The Murmaids, and wrote the instrumental "Nut Rocker" that was a hit for B. Bumble and the Stingers.

Also on Thursday, Rich Robinson announced that the Black Crowes were officially splitting up after 24 years, citing issues between himself and his brother, who is, of course, lead singer Chris Robinson. Rich, the band's founder, said in a statement, "I love my brother and respect his talent but his present demand that I must give up my equal share of the band and that our drummer for 28 years and original partner, Steve Gorman, relinquish 100 percent of his share, reducing him to a salaried employee, is not something I could agree to."

She just finalised her divorce and now she's engaged!

Speculation has been rife for months that Ian Somerhalder, 35, had proposed to girlfriend Nikki Reed, 26, and now she has been spotted with a ring on her finger just weeks after the finalization of her divorce from Paul McDonald!

But have you noticed the ring is not actually on her left hand? Why you ask? Why are Somerhalder and reportedly well known attention seeker, Reed, keeping their engagement on the down low? Apparently they just want to keep it quiet for now but there's whispers of a date set aside in June.

Victoria Justice talks about Ariana feud and Victorious cancellation

Transcript:

TMZ: Hey Victoria, how are you doing? Are you excited for Eye Candy?

Victoria: Very excited, yeah.

TMZ: Um, can I just ask you a question, is there any part of you that regrets breaking up the band, so to speak, with Ariana Grande?

Victoria: I didn't break up anything.

TMZ: When you went on the solo thing and then left the show?

Victoria: That's complete misinformation, cause first of all, I had no control over leaving the show or the show ending. That was completely up to Nickelodeon and the executives, and I loved the cast and I loved doing Victorious but me going on tour had nothing to do with whether or not there was a Victorious tour. There's much more to that story that people don't know. I don't think it's fair to blame that on me cause it's not true.
