Hackers demand Sony remove all signs The Interview existed or more data will be released

  • "It's very wise that you have made the decision to cancel the release of The Interview. It will be very useful for you."

  • "We will ensure the security of your data unless you make additional trouble."

  • "Now we want you never let the movie released, distributed or leaked in any form of, for instance, DVD or piracy, and we want everything related to the movie, including its trailers, as well as its full version down from any website hosting them immediately."

  • US officials are expected to say later today that North Korea is behind the hack. It is unclear what response the United States will take, but the White House press secretary already began setting expectations yesterday, suggesting that whatever the US does will be "proportional." The press secretary said that the attackers may be looking for a specific response, and the US will be mindful of that in its reaction.

Your guide to some of the top non-Christmas movies set during Christmas

It's the time of year for many people to be gathering around their TVs to watch their favorite Rankin/Bass Christmas special or even stream a yule log off of Netflix for a half hour. With just a few more days before A Christmas Story begins to loop for 24 hours on TV and maybe before you watch your favorite holiday movies for the 100th time I've put together a list of some alternatives you might enjoy watching this holiday season.

The movies listed under the cut are not Christmas movies... they just happen to be set during the holidays. The list is not definitive by any means and is made up of movies set during Christmas that seemed like ones ONTD would enjoy and then basically ranked by their rating from Rotten Tomatoes. Movies with just a Christmas scene (i.e. pretty much any Harry Potter film) were left out intentionally.

Goliath strikes back & the FBI confirms North Korea was behind the Sony leak

  • Last Friday, The Verge published leaked documents revealing a secret legal campaign to discredit Google, coordinated by the MPAA on behalf of the major Hollywood studios. The documents show a continued focus on the power to blocking sites from the web — a central issue in the 2011 SOPA debates — and a concerted effort to enlist state attorney generals in that fight.

  • This morning, Google filed a lawsuit in Mississippi district court against State Attorney General Jim Hood, alleging Hood had singled the company out for a "burdensome, retaliatory" subpoena. (Hood has faced scrutiny for his role in the MPAA efforts.) Alongside the lawsuit, Google has launched evidentiary actions against the MPAA and its retained counsel at Jenner & Block, asking them to retain documents for a possible future action. Alongside the legal campaign, Google has launched a public advocacy campaign against the MPAA's newly revealed site-blocking measures, asking users "kill off #ZombieSOPA" with a petition to the MPAA. Google has fought the legal actions before, but this is the first time the company has gone on the offense, and suggests a new dynamic in the ongoing struggle between Google and the MPAA. Google is striking back against the Goliath project, and it's doing so in court.

Rihanna's dad sells her out (again). He talks pregnancy rumours, her RS with Chris Brown + more

Detailed Summary

Her dad has battled addiction to crack cocaine and has long been a heavy drinker.

He got wasted at The Diamond Ball before Rihanna had even arrived. He was falling over chairs and shit.

Rihanna's mom (Monica) took notice and told security to escort him out. He was pissed because he didn't get to see Rihanna that night.

Rihanna and him haven't spoken since then. He says he got drunk because Rihanna didn't invite her step siblings (on her dad's side). That made him depressed so he decided to drink on that day.

Collapse )

He hates that Rihanna has a "large" entourage. He says that they all use Rihanna's money to buy their shit. He says that her "friends" are all parasites who need to have their own lives instead of leaching off Rihanna. He dislikes Melissa (childhood BFF) in particular. He wants Rihanna to drop her.

He has forgiven~ Chris (we know this) and his a big soft spot for him~~~. But he thinks Rihanna and Chris are done for good. He said that at the charity basketball game in August, she ignored him. They did a “Hi” “Hello,” and that was it. Chris tried to talk to Rihanna at the game but she turned away and began talking to someone else (lmao oop). Chris went over to Rihanna’s dad and took a picture with him. Rihanna got pissed that her dad did this.

Collapse )

Brief Summary:
Rihanna spent $60,000 to put her dad through rehab after he got arrested last year in LA.

She flies him to LA every 3 months to get drug tests. She empties the mini bar in his room before he arrives.

She doesn’t speak to Chris Brown anymore and ignored him the last time they were seen together (charity basketball game)

He doesn’t like Melissa (Rih’s BFF)

She is single and she isn’t pregnant

Kellegend Opens Up About Her Forthcoming Album

Kelly Clarkson hasn't released an album of all-new, non-holiday material since 2011's Stronger, but she'll have a brand-new record coming out in 2015. What will it sound like? Well, she describes it as "uplifting" and "empowering" and says that, music-wise, it's got "a little bit of everything."

- "You're gonna be like, 'This is right on up there with John Lennon, Imagine. [I] guaran-damn-tee it!"
- "It's not Imagine. Sarcasm!" she laughed. "But we can aim!"
- Its uplifting and empowering but not in the same sense as her past records.
- Really positive.
- Nashville inspires Kelly to dabble in a lot of genres.
At a Nashville press conference on Thursday to talk about the benefit concert she's holding on Saturday, Kelly was asked to describe the album, and at first, she decided to make a joke. "It's amazing. And you're going to love it," she cracked.
Then, she backtracked, just in case anyone thought she was serious.

The Sad Truth Behind the Music Playing Over the Credits of the Colbert Report Finale

In case you didn't know, Stephen Colbert stans for Neutral Milk Hotel. Uproxx dug up this story from the Village Voice in 2009:

As the taping rolls and the commercial breaks interrupt, Colbert keeps his energy level up by listening to, among other things, Neutral Milk Hotel’s “Holland, 1945″ — we know this because it plays loudly, throughout the studio. Two girls in the seats in front of me start singing along and — as they start sort of swaying — Colbert spots them and starts pointing rhythmically in their direction, all the while faithfully mouthing the lyrics.

Earlier this year, Maureen Dowd revealed the sad truth behind Colbert's attachment to the song:

jenny lewis performs 'she's not me' w/ ryan adams on kimmel

They might've just co-headlined a U.S. tour and sang each other's songs in Tulsa, but Jenny Lewis and Ryan Adams are nowhere near finished enjoying each other's company. Performing together last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the duo ran through a two-song set featuring the "She's Not Me" and "Just One of the Guys" from Lewis' latest album, The Voyager.

her album is one of my faves this year but I still miss rilo kiley

Star Lesbians a.k.a Jason Reitman’s live stage-reading of The Empire Strikes Back

If only it happened like this in the movie, but this is almost as good. In this one-night-only holiday event, Ellen Page is playing Han Solo with Jessica Alba as Princess Leia in Jason Reitman's live-reading of The Empire Strikes Back.

The whole point of Reitman’s live-read series is to take classic scripts and turn them into something we’ve never seen before, in this case space lesbians.

Other cast members are Aaron Paul as Luke Skywalker, JK Simmons as Darth Vader, Stephan Merchant as C3PO, Dennis Haysbert as Lando and Kevin Pollak as Yoda.

George Takei petitions against all white Akira adaption cast

- George Takei says that Akira originated from Japan and has a large Asian following... when you change the ethnicities of the characters, you are offending Asians and offending the fans
- George Takei says, "why don't they do something original instead?"
- according to Banned Source, the casting choices were: Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield, James McAvoy for Tetsuo, and Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Chris Pine, Joaquin Phoenix, and Justin Timberlake for Kaneda
- he calls M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender film a flop, saying that it is pointless to buy the rights for something then change it, and "I thought I would save Warner Bros. a bit of failure by warning them of what will most likely happen if they continue in that vein."
- when asked the difference between politics behind African American and Asian American actors, Takei said that there are hosts of African American stars who can be considered bankable while there are no AsAm stars, however there has been advances made since he entered the industry in 1957

- the Akira script was written by Steve Kloves (Harry Potter) and Leonardo Dicaprio is one of the executive producers lol

According to Korea Creative Contents Agency (KOCCA) in the US, the survey done from Nov 3 to 13 across America against 1,540 consumers showed that TAEYANG’s hit song was the most loved K-Pop track among the consumers in the region, having 116 votes.

The top 5 artists made a debut in the last 3 years, which shows that America’s K-Pop fans are reacting nimbly to the Korean music trend.

The most loved music video was VIXX’s “Error” and EXO’s “Overdose,” followed by Bangtan Boys’ War of Hormones” and Super Juniors’ “Mamacita”.

When asked what the charms of K-Pop are, 35% answered “performance and dance,” while others were “memorable and addictive rhythm” (30.8%), “great singing skills” (13.4%), “variety of members” (4.5%) and “fashion and style” (4.7%).

Other than that, it turns out that American consumers enjoy watching “M Countdown” (42.1%), “SBS Inkiagyo” (27.7%), “Music Bank” (15.1%), and “Show! Music Center”(10.3%). They mostly use YouTube, DramaFever and Hulu to watch the programs.

To question of how they encountered K-Pop, most answered “recommendation from a friend” (33.6%), “Through K-drama or film” (32.3%) while the rest answered through viral marketing and other contents of different genre.

The head of KOCCA Kim Il Joong commented, “Keeping in mind the consumer patterns and preference to build a systematic strategy, K-Pop wave will be able to spread even further.”

Song of the year, tbh.

Actual piece of garbage Dov Charney fired as CEO of American Apparel

American Apparel founder and waste of oxygen Dov Charney was suspended as CEO of his own company back in June following a lawsuit for sexually abusing an 18-year-old. After an investigation by an outside consulting firm, the suspending board finally sacked up and kicked his greasy ass to the curb and, bringing on Paula Schneider (formerly of BCBG and Laundry) to replace him starting January 5. Unfortunately, Charney's still a majority shareholder in the company, so they're probably not rid of him just yet.
