Britney Spears single-handedly revitalizes Planet Hollywood, boosts hotel's earnings by 20 million

It’s proof that superstar power is a necessary component of a Las Vegas hotel’s success story. In this case, it’s Britney Spears, who helped turn around the fortunes of Planet Hollywood despite critics. Wall Street gaming experts say the pop princess has revitalized the property and helped turn its one-time dismal financial picture into a real profit center.

Financial insiders are paying attention because she’s boosted the hotel-casino’s annual operating earnings by about $20 million. Now we understand why the first run of her contract ending next year was renewed for an additional two years.

Caesars Entertainment, when it was Harrah’s, took over Planet Hollywood after its $870 million default on debt obligations. Wall Street insiders say Britney has been singlehandedly instrumental in helping fill its 2,520 rooms and boosting the profits to nearly $100 million that Caesars is using to modernize the Quad into the new Linq hotel and redecorating and upgrading the rooms and pools at Planet Hollywood.

In the winter of 1820, the New England whaling ship Essex was assaulted by something no one could believe: a whale of mammoth size and will, and an almost human sense of vengeance. The real-life maritime disaster would inspire Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick. But that told only half the story.

AHS Alum Joins The Walking Dead

Alexandra Breckenridge has been cast in a recurring role for season five of AMC's smash hit, The Walking Dead. It is an original role with the chance to become a series regular in the sixth season.

Though not much is known about the character, casting calls name and describe her as "Samantha". "She’s a mother with a bohemian spirit, and a talented artist and is an attractive, strong, smart, charming and articulate woman with a vulnerable side."

Season five is still filming, and the name could possibly change before we finally meet Breckenridge's character.

Lululemon builds REFERENCES TO BUFFALO'S CHAMPIONSHIP LOSSES into floor of new Buffalo store;

Text mostly by me, but written after I saw this FoxSports article by Brett Smiley so there's probably going to be some influence from that as well.

It's such a weird, rude thing to do. Which is kind of Lululemon's thing, but to literally pay to have a mosaic built into the floor (although it occurs to me that it might be a very carefully laid sheet of linoleum) insulting the city's residents....

Saw Producers Say 'It's Time' for a New Film

Saw is making its return to theaters for one week only beginning October 31st. The occasion? Believe it or not, it’s the 10th anniversary. And today, following a press conference for the film, I sat down with producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules to reflect on the series. Inevitably, the discussion led to the “future of Saw.” Since the seventh and “final” chapter, buzz of an eighth film has been omnipresent in the Internet press, however, the producers have never commented on it. Would it be a sequel? A reboot? Both a sequel and a reboot with someone else carrying on Jigsaw’s legacy? None of that has been decided, but both Burg and Koules believe the time is right to get the ball rolling on another film and it sounds like series creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell might be along for the ride.

“James and Leigh…when Saw came out they were so afraid of being ‘the Saw guys’,” Koules told Shock Till You Drop, “and they were trying to make their own mark. Now that they’ve made their own mark, they’re very comfortable to come back. We’re getting there. James and Leigh are absolutely going to put their mark on it.”

“Who knows?” Burg said, adding with a tinge of hope, “We’re getting closer.”

“It’s one of the reasons we agreed to do this again,” Koules continued, referring to the first Saw‘s return to theaters. “We kind of wanted to build it up. Our goal is to go to Comic-Con, not next summer but the summer after [2016] with our heads up saying, ‘Here we go.’ James and Leigh are comfortable with the success they’ve had. And it’s time. James is in post on his movie. Leigh’s on post on [Insidious Chapter 3]. Everyone has time and it’s time.”

Lady Gaga Talks Feminism and What it Means to Her

It sounds like the answer would be obvious, but you never know with this compelling, contrary-Mary artist. So let’s ask the question: does Gaga call herself a feminist? And, if so, what does being a feminist mean to her?

“Yes,” she replies firmly and immediately. “I’m certainly a feminist. A feminist to me is somebody that wishes to protect the integrity of women who are ambitious. A feminist in my opinion is somebody that regards that women have a strong intelligence and wisdom. That we are just as great as men — and some of us can be even better.” She namechecks author/poet/civil rights campaigner Maya Angelou. “I can’t imagine that this woman wasn’t greater than some of the men of her time. “I want to fight for the female performer, the female artist, the female musician,” she states firmly. “This is the type of feminist that I am: that women can be tremendous artists.”

Her support for the musical sisterhood, though, only goes far. Ask her about any kinship with seeming peers such as Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry, and her reply is distinctly cool. “I don’t think that I have anything to do with any of the artists that you just mentioned. I don’t mean that in a mean-intentioned way. However, I take a lot of pride in my musicianship and in the integrity behind my work. And I wish for, in the future, especially with this Tony Bennett album, for people to really see that I am much more than what has now become perceived as a marketing plan.

Lady Gaga spoke out about "awful" experiences at the start of her career, and admitted she was taken advantage of, both physically and emotionally, by men she worked with.

Now, Your Grandparents Can Watch NCIS On Their Tablets

CBS launching an online subscription video service that will feature both current and classic programming as well as a live stream of its broadcast network.

The platform, called CBS All Access, is making its debut Thursday at a price of $5.99 a month. Unlike many other online offerings from broadcast and cable networks, an existing subscription to a pay-TV distributor isn’t required to view content on CBS All Access.

The CBS service is somewhat similar to Hulu, the video platform jointly owned by 21st Century Fox, Walt Disney Co. and Comcast Corp., which are the parent companies of Fox, ABC and NBC, respectively. Hulu has both a free service and a subscription option called Hulu Plus, which has about 8 million subscribers and costs $7.99 a month.

The difference is that CBS All Access also has a live stream of the network as part of its offering. ABC has a similar service called Watch ABC that lets viewers get a linear feed of the network on their phones and tablets. Unlike All Access, Watch ABC is available to anyone with an existing subscription to a pay-TV service.

Former Big Brother contestant and doctor, Will Kirby, jokes about Ebola on social media

If any of you are familiar with Big Brother then you’re also likely familiar with Will Kirby and his weird sense of humour. However, he took said sense of humour a little too far (in my opinion) this afternoon when he cracked a joke about Ebola, the deadly disease which has killed over 4,000 people.

This reminds me of the time when he lied about having cancer on season 2 of Big Brother. Ironically, he wound up getting cancer, so let’s just hope he doesn’t actually come down with Ebola.

Being a DOCTOR, you would think Will would know better. In my opinion, the jokes that people are making about Ebola aren’t funny in the slightest. This is a serious epidemic that is happening and no one, especially a professional physician like Dr. Kirby, should be making light of it.

Seth Rogen apparently doesn't like Adam Baldwin all that much.

Joan Rivers Cause Of Death Revealed

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Joan Rivers died in a New York City hospital Sept. 4 at the age of 81. Now, there are some answers for what happened.

Rivers was sedated with propofol before she died of low blood oxygen during a procedure to treat voice changes and acid reflux, according to the New York City medical examiner.

Rivers lacked sufficient oxygen to her brain for a prolonged period of time, which caused brain damage, the medical examiner said. Her heart had stopped after she was sedated with propofol and undergoing procedures to examine her condition.

The medical examiner’s office said it found no obvious medical error and that the manner of death was “therapeutic complication,” indicating that death is an accepted possibility of the procedure she was undergoing.

Miley Cyrus Raises More Than $200,000 for My Friend's Place + an Update on Jesse

A fundraising campaign kicked off by the pop star Miley Cyrus at the MTV Video Music Awards in August raised more than $200,000—and loads of publicity—for a small nonprofit serving homeless youths in Hollywood, Calif.

The four-week campaign for My Friend’s Place, which provides meals, clothing, education, arts programs, and other services for young people living on the streets, concluded on September 21. Trevor Neilson, a philanthropy consultant and co-founder of the Global Philanthropy Group, who is advising Ms. Cyrus, says the online fundraising effort brought in just over $200,000. It was conducted on a dedicated web page on the site Prizeo and attracted mostly small gifts from Ms. Cyrus’s fans, Mr. Neilson says.

Checks from big donors, at least some of whom the 21-year-old Ms. Cyrus solicited at the awards show, totaled approximately $50,000 more.

Heather Carmichael, executive director of My Friend’s Place, says the nonprofit is privately funded by individuals, foundations, and corporations and receives no government support. This year, its operating budget is about $1.5-million.

Ben Affleck stops by Michigan State football practice while filming 'Batman v. Superman'

Ben Affleck is spending his autumn in Michigan shooting Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but the two-time Academy Award winner found time to talk to the Spartans.

According to The Detroit News, Affleck was working out in the team's weight room when Spartans head coach Mike Dantonio invited him out to speak to the team ahead of Michigan State's tilt with Indiana on Saturday. He opened his remarks by deadpanning, "I'm Batman."

The film's crew is ostensibly on campus to film scenes at the angular and intimidating art museum on the north side of MSU's campus, which has closed for the week for a "private function."

Batman v Superman hits theaters March 25, 2016.

Affleck's not the first major movie star to address a big-name team this year. Earlier this month, Matthew McConaughey gave his beloved Texas Longhorns a very McConaughey pep talk.

No word on whether anyone gave Affleck trouble for wearing a blue shirt in East Lansing.

Revenge: Madeleine Stowe talks about Queen Victoria's past and future

Madeleine Stowe teased that we'll see more of Victoria's past, mainly her decision to betray David. "You're going to find out Victoria never really understood why she did what she did and it's actually very obvious because Conrad was involved with terrorists and Victoria knowing this, had to choose between her lover or her son's life."

"She has a lot of interesting paths, a dramatic history, that hasn't actually come to the fore yet," she said about Victoria. "Probably more will come...She had a very demented early background, very tortured and had been used over and over and over again and I think Emily and Victoria are very similar creatures."

Stowe also said she thinks the series could have ended with the Season 3 finale, sentiments her costar Emily VanCamp (Emily Thorne aka Amanda Clark) also shared.

"I think they ended it very well last season," she told E!. "But I think that they feel there's much more to reveal and if the network will go with it, as they've somewhat promised, you're going to find that maybe what Emily believes to be true is not the whole truth."

Stowe told E! that she's not sure what direction the show is headed in this season, but she can "guarantee...that you'll be very surprised. I will say that it appears that David and Victoria have some sort of sadomasochist relationship."
