Enter of your own free will... to Dracula's Dungeon!

images

Archaeologists believe they have discovered dungeons, tunnels and a military shelter at Tokat Castle in northern Turkey where Vlad the Impaler – who served as the inspiration for Bram Stoker's character Dracula – is believed to have been held hostage in the early 15th century.
The find was made during restoration works at the castle, which uncovered a secret tunnel leading to the nearby Pervane Baths and a military shelter. Two dungeons were discovered, where Wallachian Prince Vlad III, known as Vlad the Impaler, is believed to have been kept captive by the Ottoman Turks.

Official Trailer For Russell Crowe's Film Directorial Debut 'The Water Diviner' Released

‘The Water Diviner’ Trailer: Russell Crowe Directs a Feature
By Russ FISCHER
1 OCT 2014

With The Water Diviner, Russell Crowe steps behind the camera to direct his first feature. He also stars in the film, which is set in the days after World War I, as a man whose sons are missing after the battle of Gallipoli. He goes to Istanbul in search of the young men. Olga Kurylenko, Jai Courtney, Cem Yilmaz and Yilmaz Erdogan all co-star in the film written by Andrew Anastasios and Andrew Knight. The Weinstein Company will release the film in the US at some point; you can see The Water Diviner trailer below.

The film looks like it has the ambition to provide an epic scope, and the locations used for the film are certainly gorgeous. Whether it will offer a story and characters to match the scenery is another thing altogether. And we’re also curious to see how this handles the sensitive topic of the violence and political upheaval that went on in what became Turkey after WWI.

The Water Diviner opens on December 26 in Australia. There’s no US date yet.

Nas: 'Iggy Azalea is intelligent and loves Hip Hop' + T.I.: 'Critics should not stereotype Iggy'

Time Is Illmatic, a new documentary by One9 and Erik Parker, celebrates Nas's groundbreaking 1994 hip hop album Illmatic. The film examines the impact of the LP at the time it was released and in the twenty years since. Now, the rap icon himself sits down with BET.com to talk about the film, the state of hip hop today and the changing demographics of the city that influenced him, and that he still calls home. "This film is about me, the music, my journey and an American story," says Nas. "It's about a time period when most of the audience [today] were kids."

Nas also reflects on the changing game of hip hop, but maintains that one thing remains true from 1994 to today. "Hip hop is a rough place, and you're going to get punched around" he says, talking about the backlash faced by contemporary artists like Iggy Azalea. "I think [she] knows that. She's a really intelligent woman and she loves hip hop. You need tough skin, no matter what color your skin is."

To hear more of Nas's thoughts on Time Is Illmatic, his early influences — from Marley Marl to Roxanne Shanté — and gentrification in New York City, watch our exclusive interview on the link below. Time Is Illmatic is in theaters in select cities now and will be available on VOD everywhere starting Friday.

As he prepares to release his ninth studio album "Paperwork" this month, the King of the South T.I. talked to Nick Huff Barili about his protege Iggy Azalea who he featured on his single No Mediocre. TI says that her influence in music should be attributed to "her work ethic [and] her artistic views ... She has a vision for herself. This vision for herself she will not compromise... I think she should be judged based on that. Rather than her creed, her nationality, what country she's from... those are stereotypes."

Amy's Baking Company reacts to alleged knife incident

Days after allegedly threatening a drunken patron with a knife, Samy and Amy Bouzaglo, owners of Amy's Baking Company in Scottsdale, Ariz., sat down with KTAR to give their side of the story.

A video from TMZ appears to show Samy brandishing what looks like a knife outside of the restaurant while Amy restrains him. The person recording says, "You're going to go to jail for the rest of your life. It's not worth it." The Bouzaglos maintain Samy was holding a pen.

"TMZ only shows what they want to show," Samy said.

A KTAR review of a longer, clearer video showed the drunken man had charged both Samy and Amy prior to the incident outside of the restaurant broadcast by TMZ. He also spit on Samy, cursed at him and threatened to urinate inside the restaurant.

"He came for chaos," Samy said. "He didn't come to eat. I didn't even serve him water."

While the new video shows Samy clearly armed with a silver pen and not a knife, he admitted he wanted to intimidate the man to get him to leave the premises and not harm Amy.

"I did what I had to do to defend her," he said. "I'm still defending her and I won't let anyone come to bully her or even touch her."

The Bouzaglos plan to release the video, though they did not specify when.

In the interview, the Bouzaglos also claimed they were sexually harassed by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.

What Are Karl Lagerfeld and Justin Bieber Planning?

We should've known something was up when Justin Bieber Instagrammed a selfie of himself with Karl Lagerfeld this week (the Kaiser famously despises these type of photos more than anything else in the world). Just minutes ago, Bieber shared another post, this time a composition of photos of himself with the designer (not selfies this time) and what looks like pictures from a photo shoot. Did Bieber finally step behind the Lagerfeld lens? We'll just have to wait and see.

The return of LOST is 'inevitable' according to Carlton Cuse

Here's some intriguing news that might spark some excitement in you. According to executive producer and co-writer of the hit TV series LOST, Carlton Cuse, the return of the sci-fi drama is "inevitable."

It's been 10 years since the series premiered, and four years since the season finale, but he doesn't think we've seen the last of the island. Cuse explains why in a recent interview with Digital Spy:

"Disney owns the franchise, it made them a lot of money, it’s hard to imagine it will just sit there idly forever. Damon (Lindelof) and I told our story in that world and I assume someone will come along, hopefully having been inspired by our story, or our version of the story, and want to tell their own story. It’s like the Narnia chronicles. There are seven books, they were all written by CS Lewis, but they all visit Narnia at different times and different configurations and different ways. Someone is going to come up with a way to tell another Lost story. I think it’s inevitable. I don’t know what it is or how it would work, but I can’t imagine something else won’t be done with the franchise."

I never really thought of seeing the return of LOST, but the way he explains how it is possible has definitely opened my mind to the idea. I'd actually really like to see something like that happen now. I loved LOST, and if someone came up with a new great story to tell set in that world, I'd watch it.

are you ready for LOST: the next island?

Nearly one of every five online searches for "Jimmy Kimmel" can lead Internet surfers to websites where identity thieves and other nefarious types lurk, according to McAfee, a software unit of Intel Security.

The host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! supplanted Mirror, Mirror actress Lily Collins, who was last year's Most Dangerous Celebrity.

And the entire Kardashian clan, including Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, Kris Jenner and Kanye West, all of whom were high on the list last year, fell precipitously this time around. McAfee noted that the decline of the Kardashians coincided with the rise of rap mogul Jay Z and Jersey Shore star JWoww.

Malcolm Young, AC/DC guitarist, has dementia, band confirms

AC/DC rhythm guitarist and founding member Malcolm Young is suffering from dementia, according to reports.

The band confirmed to People that Young has dementia, and the Sydney Morning Herald reported that the 61-year-old is living in a local care facility.

Born in Scotland, Young formed the band in 1973 along with younger brother Angus, the band's lead guitarist, after the family had emigrated to Sydney.

It was announced in the spring that Malcolm would be taking a break from the band, which will release their 17th studio album on Dec. 2. Rock or Bust was recorded in Vancouver earlier this year with producer Brendan O'Brien.

Steve Young, a nephew, played on the album and is expected to join AC/DC when they tour to support the new album.

The other members of the band include drummer Phil Rudd, bassist Cliff Williams, and Brian Johnson, who took over as singer of the band in 1980 after the death of vocalist Bon Scott.

AC/DC was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

Ben Affleck & David Fincher Clashed On Set

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
They did clash over one thing during production, Mr. Affleck said: a baseball cap.

“That was the only fight David and I had,” Mr. Affleck said, “and it was a legitimate fight.”

During a scene set at a New York airport, Mr. Affleck’s character, Nick Dunne, tries to evade recognition by donning a baseball cap. Mr. Fincher, Mr. Affleck said, wanted the character to wear a Yankees cap, because he believed that worked best for the movie.

But Mr. Affleck, a diehard Red Sox fan, would have none of it.

“I said, ‘David, I love you, I would do anything for you,’” Mr. Affleck recalled. “‘But I will not wear a Yankees hat. I just can’t. I can’t wear it because it’s going to become a thing, David. I will never hear the end of it. I can’t do it.’ And I couldn’t put it on my head.”

While Mr. Fincher stood firm – “he said it was like it’s foregone, it’s destiny” – Mr. Affleck did too.

“It was an uprising; it was a coup, I rioted,” Mr. Affleck said, “It was a one-man riot against the Yankees.”

Finally, after what Mr. Affleck described as “a lot of shuttle diplomacy, so much back-and-forth,” they compromised: Mr. Affleck wore a Mets cap.

“This was very Switzerland,” Mr. Affleck said.

Parameters: Each team has two days to work and $500 to use to bid on the storage bin(s) of their choice. There are five units and three teams, so at least one team will have more than one unit.
Tim pops back in the workroom to announce a lil twist: Each team will create a third look that must be cohesive with the initial two. But this one must be made primarily of Mood fabric instead of materials from the storage unit.

Is How To Get Away With Murder's Peter Nowalk the Jan Brady to Shonda Rhimes' Marcia?

Screen Shot 2014-10-02 at 1

Last week the premiere of How to Get Away with Murder slayed the ratings and solidified ABC’s Thursday night dominance. It's debut prompted a slew of fans and critics alike to direct their complaints and acclaim towards Shonda Rhimes. Even before the show premiered Alessandra Stanley’s infamously error ridden review for The New York Times caused a splash when she aimed her tone deaf “praise” towards Rhimes’ supposed reclamation of the “angry black woman” stereotype. Although Rhimes herself pointed it out, one significant fact seemed to get drowned out in all of the hullaballoo: How to Get Away with Murder is not a Shonda Rhimes show.

TVD/The Originals's Kol Mikaelson To Get A Webseries

Nathaniel Buzolic

Guys, Kol Mikaelson (Nathaniel Buzolic) is getting his own web series! Forget making him a main character on The Originals (though, we still totally want that to happen). Let’s give this vampire his own show!

How cometh this exciting news? BuzzFeed just published an article giving us a day-in-the-life perspective of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals executive producer Julie Plec. Though the article is full of interesting details and insights, it was the revelation that Julie is developing a web series for Kol that really jumped out at us. Jarett Wieselman mentions that, during the course of the day, Julie “approve[s] ideas for an upcoming web series starring Nathaniel Buzolic’s character, Kol” and mentions that “the web series is developing nicely.” Talk about burying the lede!

Kol has been a fan favorite since he first appeared on TVD as yet another emotionally-unstable and ridiculously good-looking Mikaelson. He was killed off in Season 4, but came back as a ghost in Season 5. He didn’t appear to make it in the collapse of the Other Side in the TVD Season 5 finale, but we still have our fingers crossed. We know he will be appearing in flashback form in The Originals’ Season 2, Episode 2 (“Alive and Kicking”). Will this serve as a launch for Kol’s web series? And will the web series be taking place entirely in the past or did Kol somehow cheat death — again?

Review of 'Gone Girl' from a Guy Whose Favorite Movie Is 'Jurassic Park'

I’ll get the bad news out of the way first: Gone Girl is NOT as good as Jurassic Park. It’s still pretty good, though? Definitely go see it; I just don’t want you to walk in the theater like, “This is gonna be better than Jurassic Park” cause it isn’t.

Much like Jurassic Park, Gone Girl is based on a book. Sadly, this is where the similarities between the films stop entirely. David Fincher’s Gone Girl is a movie about Ben Affleck (a human) and his missing, possibly dead wife (also a human — there’s actually ONLY humans in this). She disappears one day and, as an audience member, you’re like, “Well, where is she? Did a dinosaur take her?” I don’t wanna give away too much of the plot but, no. Again, dinosaurs actually aren’t in this movie at all. Possibly there’s a deleted scene with one but it definitely didn’t make the final cut. So the mystery (aside from “Um, what the hell?!”) is who took Gone Girl? She basically leaves without a trace except for some blood in the kitchen. So this is when you’re like, “Ohhhh OK they’re gonna clone her and make an amusement park…” Wrong again! This is a movie that definitely keeps you guessing.

Subway Called Out For Sexist Ad

Summer's over, but now we have to stay buff for ... Halloween season? That's the mood Subway hoped to capitalize on in a new ad, in which a woman asserts she has to eat healthy to fit into her sexy Halloween costumes.

Eating healthy is something everyone should do year round, but an ad playing on women's concern for their weight, coupled with an overabundance of very adult costumes (for a night that's traditionally about children) is causing controversy.

A man does appear in the ad, but he never moves from his seat and eventually is shown in a Viking costume for laughs. That's not quite the same as the woman, who cycles through several iterations of titillating costumes.

Not everyone thinks there's a lot of meat on this controversy sandwich, though.

"You don't have to read so into it," noted TODAY's Carson Daly on Friday.

Agreed TODAY's Matt Lauer, "I do think you need to at least look for the humor in it."

A Subway spokesperson told TODAY, "We understand that some people may not have picked up on the intended humor in our Halloween commercial. Our objective was certainly not to offend anyone."

Complex.com Interviews Avatar: TLAB Creators

"The Legend of Korra" Co-Creators Will Challenge You to Hold Onto Your Beliefs

by ERIC THURM

"Before "Balance" begins October 3, Complex asked Avatar creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino a few questions about the upcoming season, and how the show's world has changed over the course of the series.

To what extent were Books Two through Four conceptualized as one longer story rather than three shorter arcs? Did that change your ability to react to how individual parts of the show were turning out as production went on?
DiMartino:
From the start, Legend of Korra was conceived to have stand-alone seasons with a new villain each time, rather than the three-season arc of The Last Airbender. We had no idea when we began how many seasons we would have, but once we got the green light for the second batch of 26 episodes (which make up Books Three & Four) we knew we could weave in more connective tissue between the seasons, while still keeping them separate stories. The biggest thread linking them is what happens in Book Two when UnaVaatu unleashes spirit vines on Republic City. Those spirit vines play a big role in the final season! Also, we were able to see Korra’s character arc through to the end. She still has a lot of healing to do and some soul searching before her journey is finished.

James Franco Producing Movie About Fraternity Hazing

The man with a million projects just took on one more. James Franco is coming on as a producer for Goat, a movie adaptation of Brad Land's memoir detailing the hazing he went through while pledging the same fraternity as his older brother. The "brotherhood" rituals eventually ended in another pledge's death.

The movie will mark a reunion of sorts for Franco, who’ll once more be working with Pineapple Express director David Gordon Green. However, the Pineapple director won’t be calling the shots this time – although he was originally slated to. His original line-up for the flick even had casting underway, with Emile Hirsch attached in the lead role. After Green opted out of directing, Jeff Nichols (Mud, Take Shelter) was next in line to take on the job back in 2008.

Will it be a comedy, or a dramedy, or a thriller? There’s a good chance it’ll contain all three, especially with the talent attached. The idea of Hirsch taking on the lead is one that’d definitely work for this kind of material, but as his name was not mentioned in this new iteration, we’ll have to wait and see. There’s of course a strong possibility that Franco himself may take the role, though that isn’t confirmed.

source. full synopsis for brad land’s memoir..
Reeling from a terrifying assault that has left him physically injured and psychologically shattered, nineteen-year-old Brad Land must also contend with unsympathetic local police, parents who can barely discuss “the incident” (as they call it), a brother riddled with guilt but unable to slow down enough for Brad to keep up, and the feeling that he’ll never be normal again. When Brad’s brother enrolls at Clemson University and pledges a fraternity, Brad believes he’s being left behind once and for all. Desperate to belong, he follows. What happens there—in the name of “brotherhood,” and with the supposed goal of forging a scholar and a gentleman from the raw materials of boyhood—involves torturous late-night hazing, heartbreaking estrangement from his brother, and, finally, the death of a fellow pledge. Ultimately, Brad must weigh total alienation from his newfound community against accepting a form of brutality he already knows too well.
