Iggy Azalea & JLo Talk Versace & Booties

"In this episode of House Of Style, our host Iggy Azalea sits down with Jennifer Lopez (her idol and ours) at the Versace store on L.A.’s famous Rodeo Drive. The floor is set up with a kind of ~Jennifer Lopez Versace Hall Of Fame~ (unofficial name for the archival pieces we pulled and stationed in the shop), dripping with some of her favorite tour costumes over the years done by the legendary Italian fashion house (plus, yes, that one dress from the Grammys)."

Every first weekend of January, there's a usually shitty horror film that gets released, and here's what the very first weekend of 2015 has to offer:

The film stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, the hot pale gay ginger from Shameless, and reigning Disney Channel queen Bella Thorne. It hits theatres on January 2, 2015.

Are there any horror films you're looking forward to in 2015? Have you been disappointed with 2014 horror as much as I have?

Eminem and Rihanna give fans 'Monster' event (detroit show!)

Detroit— Eminem and Rihanna unleashed a “Monster” on Comerica Park Friday night in front of approximately 45,000 fans at the first of their two blockbuster concerts at the Detroit Tigers’ home. With a two-and-a-half hour show that spanned four dozen songs, the duo delivered the sold-out crowd a parade of hits that rarely let up and never turned down.

It has been four years since Eminem played his hometown, when he did back-to-back nights with Jay Z at Comerica Park during the first of the pair’s “Home and Home” shows. Those concerts were electrifying, historic outings that were packed with special guests and made a statement about how far hip-hop had come and how big it could be. Friday’s “Monster” show didn’t have the same significance but still packed a wallop, and found Em in tip-top performance shape as he bobbed and weaved around the stadium’s enormous stage.

Em has never been more physically agile. He never stopped jumping in place, shuffling his feet or jabbing with his hands, as if he was shadowboxing all night. He did have some help in the vocal department; aside from a prominent backing track, he was joined on stage by his hype man, Denaun Porter, who doubled many of his lyrics. But he was on point when he needed to be, and during his most taxing songs – “No Love,” “Forever” and “Rap God,” all of which feature breathless verses delivered at a breakneck speed – he was impressive and handled the heavy lifting.

I heard it was AMAZING! people said even rihanna did better this time around. Maybe she was just having a bad night in NY. Wish I could have been there.

oh and I am sure Em is very upset to hear about Nick and Mariah..

~I guess that's why they call it window pane~

Azalea was bringing the house down with “Fancy” when she failed to realize she was near the end of the stage. One wrong step was all it needed to send Iggy Azalea falling into the audience. Crew members quickly rushed to help her as the music kept playing in the background. But ever the trooper, Azalea jumped right back on stage and continued the song like nothing was wrong, much to the delight of the crowd.

Since Iggy Azalea seems okay, it is easy for both fans and detractors to laugh at the rising star. Twitter users trended the phrase “Poor Iggy” early Saturday morning as video of her stage fall went viral.

Matthew McConaughey in talks to play Randall Flagg in The Stand

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Matthew McConaughey is nearing a deal to star in the rags-to-riches tale “Gold” for Teddy Schwarzman's Black Bear Pictures, and he's also being courted for a lead role in Josh Boone's adaptation of Stephen King‘s “The Stand,” TheWrap has learned.

Regarding “The Stand,” writer-director Boone has had McConaughey in mind ever since he won the coveted job, which he inherited from filmmakers such as Ben Affleck, David Yates and Scott Cooper. While an individual familiar with the project told TheWrap that Boone initially envisioned McConaughey as Stu Redman, who's immune to the plague responsible for wiping out most of the world's population, an insider confirms that McConaughey is now being eyed to play Randall Flagg, who's the primary villain in King's epic tale of good vs. evil.

The Oscar-winning actor is Boone and author Stephen King's first-choice for the movie, and it'll likely be up to the actor to choose which role he wants to play, should his schedule allow him to be involved.

“The Stand” was previously adapted in 1994 as an ABC miniseries starring Gary Sinise as Redman and Jamie Sheridan as Flagg.

NBC cancels Emerald City before it airs

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Wizard of Oz fans at Comic-Con last month saw ads promoting an upcoming limited series called Emerald City, NBC’s long-gestating modern take on the magical land over the rainbow. Now that project is no longer moving forward.

EW has confirmed NBC has dropped a house on its plan to go down the Yellow Brick Road in prime-time, though producer Universal Television might still shop Emerald City around to other networks. The project had a straight-to-series 10-episode order in January with writers Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) and Matt Arnold (Siberia). Sources say the network and writers ended up with creative differences on how best to execute the story.

Based on the 14-book series that first created the Land of Oz, Emerald City was originally described as a “dramatic and modern re-imagining of the tales that include lethal warriors, competing kingdoms, and the infamous wizard as we’ve never seen him before.” The project was to star a “head-strong 20-year-old Dorothy Gale” who is “unwittingly sent on an eye-opening journey that thrusts her into the center of an epic and bloody battle for the control of Oz.” The lead role was never cast.

Selfie pilot (starring Karen Gillian & John Cho) debuts on Hulu early

The fall television season now starts earlier, thanks to networks posting their pilots early online to give audiences extra opportunities to decide if they want to devote their time to them. As this trend continues to build, a second fall 2014 pilot has appeared online already, ABC’s Selfie.

The sitcom pilot is loosely based on the Pygmalion/My Fair Lady story. Karen Gillan (Doctor Who) plays Eliza, a narcissistic online celebrity whose image crashes after a breakup. She enlists Henry, played by John Cho (Star Trek) to help her rehabilitate her image and reconnect with the human world.

As Entertainment Weekly points out, ABC has just posted the pilot episode on Hulu, over a month before it is slated to premiere on Sept. 30.

Selfie was written by Emily Kapnek (Suburgatory) and directed by Julie Anne Robinson. You can watch the pilot below to decide if George Bernard Shaw’s work really needed to be updated for the 21st century.

MTV VMAs 2014 Preview: Creating the Next Miley Moment, Ariana Grande's 'Space Glam' Plan & More

Before last year's MTV Video Music Awards, viewers had no idea what Miley Cyrus was about to unleash on the world, with her twerking and her flesh-colored latex bikini and her tongue wagging. But Dave Sirulnick did.

So heading into this year's VMAs, airing live Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on MTV, what does the veteran producer do to help create those show-stopping moments -- or to manage the ones that no one saw coming (we're looking at you, 2009 Kanye)?

"There are the planned surprises -- planned by us, but a surprise to the audience, which oftentimes is two people performing together who you didn't know until the show started, or something like that. And then, of course, there are the unplanned surprises, which are often very, very fun and we all remember them," Sirulnick told Billboard on Thursday during a press preview of the VMA stage at Inglewood, Calif.'s newly renovated Forum.

"As producers, I feel like what we try to do is work closely with the artists to give them the best platform to express themselves: who they are in that given moment, what they want to get across to their audience," he continued. "But at the same time, putting the right people in the room, all their peers, so the moments can happen. There's a comfort there -- so Beyonce choosing a few years ago to reveal to the world she's pregnant, there was a comfort there with her peers being there and welcoming the audience into that wonderful family moment. … And there's many, many times where we're sitting there watching it happen with the rest of the world, going, 'Oh, wow! OK!'"

One of those planned moments is Ariana Grande opening the show, playing her Zedd-assisted dance track "Break Free" as well as the super-diva anthem "Bang Bang" with Nicki Minaj and Jessie J. Grande teased that her "Break Free" performance won't stray too far from the song's Barbarella-channeling visual.

Floyd Mayweather Claps Back at 50 Cent's "Literacy Challenge", Posts His $72 Million Checks

The drama continues between frenemies 50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather.  After all the shade 50 tossed Floyd's way about being illiterate, Floyd finally hit back today.

We told you about 50's shade-filled challenge to Floyd recently over on Instagram.  He switched up the rules of the ALS #IceBucketChallenge and said he would donate $750,000 if boxing champ Floyd could read a full page out of a Harry Potter book...without messing up.  Damn shame.  He went even further and said he could read a page out of Cat In the Hat instead...since those words may be too big in the Harry Potter books.

While Twitter and IG followers jumped on the bandwagon to troll Floyd even more, the folks over at The Breakfast Club released raw audio of Floyd taking an hour to read a 10-second drop.

REALLY!? Ian Somerhalder, Nikki Reed Move in Together After Three Weeks of Dating!

These vamps are shacking up! Us Weekly has exclusively learned that Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed are already living together -- and they took the next step just three weeks after they began dating! An insider reveals to Us that the couple's new address is in none other than Atlanta, Ga., where Somerhalder is currently filming season 6 of The Vampire Diaries with his costar and (amicable!) ex-girlfriend Nina Dobrev.

"[Nikki] goes to set every day," the source says, adding that the lovebirds plan to also share an L.A. place, too.Sleeping under the same roof is the second big milestone in the pair's relationship. Two weeks after Us broke news that they were an item, Somerhalder revealed that he and the Twilight alum, 26, were the proud new owners of a horse named Eagle.

"What amazing creatures they are. Wow," Somerhalder, 35, wrote via Instagram on Aug. 5. "Thank you @iamnikkireed for snapping this special moment, with our big baby boy."

Somerhalder previously dated Dobrev for three years until their split in May 2013. Reed filed for divorce from husband Paul McDonald after two years of marriage in May 2014, and briefly dated Dancing With the Stars pro Derek Hough (also Dobrev's ex) before falling for the TVD hunk. Friends of the couple, however, don't seem shocked about how serious it's become between the two.

Elisabetta Canalis Opens Up About Ex George Clooney After Her Engagement!

George who? Elisabetta Canalis recently opened up about her engagement to orthopedic surgeon beau Brian Perri and her famous ex George Clooney to Italy's Chi magazine. The 35-year-old Italian actress/model revealed that Perri asked her father for permission and that she will wear an Alessandro Angelozzi couture gown for her special day. "I met a 46-year-old man who has never married and does not have children, a rarity," she told the mag.

As previously reported, Canalis will be tying the knot on Sept. 14 in Sardinia, Italy -- the same month and country Clooney, 52, will be marrying fiancee Amal Alamuddin. (The famous Hollywood bachelor and the 36-year-old British lawyer got engaged in April.)"I chose the date some time ago and September is the most beautiful time -- for those who do not know Sardinia -- to appreciate it," Canalis explained of her decision. "Otherwise I would have had to wait a year."

The former Dancing With the Stars contestant ended her two-year relationship with Clooney back in June 2011. Despite the coincidence, Canalis only has nice things to say about the silver fox. "I am happy for him, but I am thinking only of my happiness," she told the mag. "It is the most important day of my life, I don’t have time to think of anyone else."

She also cleared up rumors that their past relationship was seen as professional rather than passionate. "That is the wrong impression that many have made and I do not have any problems speaking about him. There is no mystery, no contract, no secrets to hide. So many people believe that a relationship with a such a famous person, always in the spotlight, was not possible," she said. "Instead we had a real connection and it ended as all relationships can end."

Frankie Boyle tells BBC to sack 'cultural tumour' Jeremy Clarkson

Top Gear host 'is tolerated as he's a friend of Cameron', Edinburgh television festival is told

Comedian Frankie Boyle has called for Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson to be sacked "because he's a cultural tumour".

Boyle said that following Clarkson's apology and his final warning from the BBC after an online video emerged of him apparently mumbling the N-word in the nursery rhyme Eeny, Meeny, Miny Moe in an outtake from the BBC2 programme, he "should be removed".

"He comes from a very bad place and the reason he's tolerated is that he's recognised by people in power ... in fact he's a friend of [David] Cameron's," said Boyle. "He's in there like a fucking growth and he should be removed because he's horrible. Sack him because he's a cultural tumour."

Speaking at the Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival, Boyle also described Rupert Murdoch as "obviously a c*** and fucking tumour".

Laverne Cox launched a media campaign in support of transwoman Synthia China Blast

Who was convicted for the rape, murder and abuse of the corpse of thirteen-year-old Ebony Nicole Williams. The original video has since been made private (and eventually deleted, per request). Watch Cox read the entire letter aloud and read the full petition demands here. A petition has since been started in request to remove Laverne Cox from Orange is the New Black.

Meanwhile, Sylvia Rivera Law Project continues to lend its support.

SRLP will continue to pursue our End Solitary campaign as solitary confinement is torture. SRLP will continue to support Synthia’s removal from isolation and her access to educational programming inside prison. More broadly, SRLP will continue to push for policies that reduce the violence experienced by our incarcerated community members because we do not believe that any of our community members’ lives are disposable. Further, we do not believe that exiling community members who inflict harm will do anything to keep our communities safer. We do hope this process pushes forward conversations about transformative justice that do not decide who is deserving and undeserving of gender self-determination and safety.

Laverne's official statement from her Tumblr:

When I agreed to participate in a recent Sylvia Rivera Law Project campaign, which involved me reading a letter from a member of their Prisoner Advisory Committee, I was not aware of the charges for which she was convicted. If I had been aware of those charges, I would have never agreed to read the letter.

To everyone who has been a supporter of me and my work, as well as for those who have found inspiration in my story, it is important for me to let you know that I have never, nor would I ever, support abuse or violence against anyone, especially a child like Ebony Nicole Williams. This is something I unequivocally do not support.

My intention was to highlight the horrific conditions many trans people experience during incarceration — to shed a light where often there is only darkness.

News excerpt from the original 1993 news report (warning: graphic).

The two men, identified as Luis Morales of the Bronx and Carlos Franco, 20, of Brooklyn, face charges of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and reckless endangerment. The police said the girl also may have been raped and slashed before her body was set ablaze. Although her death has been ruled a homicide, the exact cause has yet to be determined.

"One guy claimed he did the rape and slashing," the official said. "And then he was enlisting people to help him move the body, and she was moaning. And that's when another person stomped on her neck." Packed Into Box

Investigators believe the girl was killed in an apartment in Hunts Point. Her body was then placed in a plastic bag and packed into a large cardboard box, and the two men then had the third person help them carry the box several blocks, the official said. The identity of the third person was not revealed, and was it not clear whether this person witnessed the murder. It also was not immediately known whether there would be other arrests.

The box was discarded under the Sheridan Expressway near the Bruckner Expressway at East 165th Street and Whitlock Avenue. About three hours later, the police said, one killer returned and set fire to the box.

Book Post! Ursula K. Le Guin and Michael Cunningham talk genre prejudice and broadening fiction

"I feel like the most prominent aspect of this period is what I suppose I’ll call “broadening.”
Broadening in the sense of a much larger collective conviction about who’s entitled to tell stories, what stories are worth telling, and who among the storytellers gets taken seriously."
"And the labels stick. As you say, a lot of people still maintain genre prejudice. I still meet matrons who tell me kindly that their children enjoyed my books but of course they never read them, and people who make sure I know they don’t read that space-ship stuff. No, no, they read Literature—realism."

A refresher course on Mariah Carey

Celine Dion's concert may have been cancelled in the Philippines. But don't fret, there is still one global superstar diva set to perform here soon. That is none other than Mariah Carey. She will have her long awaited second concert in the Philippines on October 28, 2014, at the Mall of Asia Arena.

With a few more months to go, fans can get the chance to see her perform one more time from our side of the globe. And from my end, I would like to give some sort of a "refresher course", if you will, on why an artist like Mariah Carey is still important, on the global impact she has made in popular culture in general, and what ultimately could be the legacy she would leave behind if she moves away from the limelight of the music industry.

Even to this day, Mariah Carey is still considered to be "head-above-heels" over some of her younger and talented contemporaries. But just imagine if the Mariah Carey of yesteryear had debuted in this era of popular music, she would flat out blow away the majority of her competition. She was that good. In fact, that is an understatement; she was almost like an embodiment of perfection especially in her younger years during the mid-90's.

ALS Ice Bucket Challenge cofounder Corey Griffin dies

Corey Griffin, a philanthropist who was instrumental in making the ALS ice bucket challenge fund-raising drive go viral, has died after drowning in a diving accident off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts.

The 27-year-old's life was cut tragically short on 16 August when he dove off a wharf that serves as a popular diving perch for locals, resurfacing once before disappearing back under the water and drowning.

Griffin "helped turn the ice bucket challenge for ALS into a fund-raising sensation after his friend Pete Frates was diagnosed," according to an obituary in the Boston Globe, with his father Robert describing him to the newspaper as "the happiest guy in the world".

Griffin reportedly raised $100,000 at a fundraiser just hours before his death, with the ice bucket challenge having been one of the biggest talking points online in the past few days.

The drive has so far raised $62.5 million in aid of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Wow, the timing of this is just scary. Prayers and condolences to his family.
