Spurred by the success of four current hits, the diva logs her first week at No. 1.
Ariana Grande is the top artist in the U.S. this week, as she vaults 4-1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart, marking her first week atop the ranking. She also becomes the first female artist to lead the list.
The Artist 100 (which launched six weeks ago) provides the first weekly ranking dedicated to measuring artist activity across Billboard's most influential charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard 200 and Social 50, among others. The Artist 100 is modeled after the formula utilized to compile Billboard's annual Year in Music Top Artist list (as well as the Billboard Music Awards Artist of the Year category), blending information from album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.

The "Thor" star has been in the country since last Wednesday as told by the Immigration Administration to the daily La Nación. He also took pictures with fans after being soaked completely through by the seawater.
On Monday, Hemsworth posted a video of himself taking the “ALS Ice Bucket Challenge,” which raises awareness for the lethal neuromuscular illness also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He appeared to take part in the fundraiser while in the middle of the Costa Rican jungle.
He is joined on this vacation by his wife, Elsa Pataky. This is not their first time to Costa Rica as they also vacationed here around the same time last year as well.

HBO programming director Michael Lombardo revealed a handful of details about the new season of True Detective Thursday, but he didn't disclose who would be starring in the second season of Nic Pizzolatto's series.
"We’re going to start shooting in September for it to air next summer," Lombardo told an audience at the Edinburgh TV Festival, confirming various plot details about the show. "[It has] different characters, a different setting. It’s set in California, all of California. There are three cops. One of the characters is female. I think that’s probably all I’m allowed to say. We’ll probably be announcing casting soon."
Lombardo said he’d read the first two hours of scripts plus outlines for two subsequent episodes.
"When you have a success like True Detective it’s challenging, less for us and more for someone like Nic, how to face the page again and start afresh and not be haunted by the success of the show you’ve just done," he said. "But the writing is better than last season. It’s exceptional."
Unlike the crime drama’s first season, which was directed in its entirety by Cary Fukunaga, Lombardo said he thought they’d use "three or four different directors" this time around, without naming any potential candidates.
Speaking about working with the volume of pitches he receives, Lombardo said that True Detective was among the few shows he accepted almost instantaneously.
"We’d worked with Nic before. We hired him to do a pilot script, which we decided not to go forward with. But the writing was unbelievable. So we get a call to say Nic had written two episodes [of True Detective] and was it in with possibility for attached stars. And they gave us the first two scripts. I knew in the room that we had to do this. It was clear that they had packaged it and it was competitive. I just said ‘I want to do this,’ " he said.
As one True grows, another is set to leave HBO’s schedule. After seven seasons, True Blood will be drawing to a close at the end of its current run, joining Newsroom and Boardwalk Empire on the list of the network’s outgoing dramas.
"This season, True Blood is one of the highest-rated shows across the board; it gets over 10 million views an episode," claimed Lombardo. "But the minute you feel you’re airing it for the numbers we start questioning it. Every season we sit down with the creator and say ‘Tell us what the next year will be like.’ And if there aren't exciting, unbelievable, undeniable ideas in the coming season, we’re questioning. And I think in the case of True Blood, it just felt like we had reached a place where the storytelling was hitting a wall. And to stay just because the ratings were strong felt not who we are and we needed, quite honestly, the money and Sunday night space for new shows.”
At the end of the Thursday (Aug. 21) episode of "MythBusters," original hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman announced that three of their crew members will not be returning for the 2015 season. Watch the show say goodbye to Tory Belleci, Kari Byron and Grant Imahara in the above video.
After the episode aired, all three took to Twitter to thank the fans and the show. Byron writes, "After a decade of the Mythbusters, we are no longer with the show. Thank you to all the fans who have supported us. The show is taking a new direction. It was an amazing run. I learned so much about myself and the world. I love you all @MythBusters. I am sad for an ending but there will be exciting new adventures for us."
Grant Imahara adds, "Thanks @MythBusters for allowing us to teach science in a whole new way. Also, explosions. Now, on to the next adventure!"
And Belleci writes, "It's been an amazing ride for 10 years! We couldn't have done it without you guys. You're the best fans anyone could wish for. Thank you."
Savage and the official "MythBusters" accounts also had words of farewell. "We want to thank @KariByron @GrantImahara @ToryBelleci for their tireless work, and wish them all the best," writes "MythBusters." Savage adds, "@KariByron, @grantimahara & @ToryBelleci, it's been a pleasure to not only work with you but call you our friends."

THE passage of time is perhaps not so acute to the centuries-old alien at the heart of the BBC’s “Doctor Who,” the shape-shifting hero known simply as the Doctor, who has had more than 50 years of adventures across dimensions known and otherwise.
But time and its measurement have become especially crucial to Peter Capaldi, who will make his proper, full-length debut as the latest actor to play the Doctor when the new season of “Doctor Who” has its premiere Saturday on BBC America.
Rihanna is ridiculous ... and thirsty like Moses wandering the desert.
She showed up in the front row at a charity basketball game Thursday ... eyes trained on ex-BF Chris Brown.
Now that she's with Drake again and not Chris Brown again ... you'd think she wouldn't fuel the fire. But then again, who are we kidding?
It's a special kind of insult to Karrueche ... who's back with Chris after being repeatedly humiliated by whatever continues to transpire between him and Rihanna.

What's the hardest time you've had getting over an ex?
Ariana Grande made headlines earlier this month when she told UK magazine Attitude that her new song "Break Your Heart Right Back" was about the 21-year-old singer getting cheating on with another guy, but in a new interview with ET's Rocsi Diaz, she sets the record straight on her controversial comments.
"It's about a boy who cheats on a girl with another boy. That's a very fun concept. It's one of my favorites on the album, and it's really funny because I believe it has happened to me. I'm not 100 percent positive, but I'm 99.9 percent positive," she originally told Attitude.
But Ariana is now clearly defensive when the quote is brought up.
"People took my quote and made a headline about it -- I know what y'all do," she tells ET. "They twisted it though ... I never said my ex. It wasn't even an ex really, we were sort of dating for a minute. It wasn't a big deal."
Still, she stands by her belief that getting cheated on with a guy rather than getting cheating on with another girl is preferable.
"It was kind of funny. I wasn't like, heartbroken over it. I was like, 'Ok, work,'" she says. "I think it's less offensive. I think it's great. I'd be like, 'Great for you.' But if it was a girl I'd be like, 'Ok that kind of sucks,' you know what I mean? ... Either way it's not cool, but I'd be less upset if it were a guy."

When is the perfect time for you to have kids ontd?
Jennifer Lopez and Casper Smart have remained close after their spilt, but that doesn't mean the former couple are planning on giving it a second chance. In fact, Lopez doesn't have a dating plan at all.
During a stop by Chelsea Lately on Thursday, the performer, 45, gave host Chelsea Handler some insight into her dating life and techniques. Turns out, Lopez likes to keep it simple when seeking out a new relationship. "I just go on a connection with a person, you know what I mean?" the American Idol judge told Handler. "I don't really plan things out, they just happen. Maybe, I need to plan better?"
Based on her star-studded dating history, it seems like Lopez's laissez-faire approach usually pays off.
For now, she appears to be focused on her career and enjoying herself. The singer recently celebrated her 45th birthday with a wild lion cake and plenty of dancing.
In an interview with DigitalSpy, he also said he's going to film a secret cameo after his Crucible run and they speculate that whatever it could be, it's gonna be big.

Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey finally responded to reports of their separation Thursday night. Page Six first revealed this week that their marriage is in trouble after six years, and the two have been living apart for months. Cannon, the host of “America’s Got Talent,” has been living in hotels while his wife is living with their twins Monroe and Moroccan Scott.
On Thursday, Cannon confirmed to “The Insider” that he had moved out of their home. “There is trouble in paradise … we have been living in separate houses for a few months,” Cannon said, adding, “My main focus is my kids.”Meanwhile, a rep for Carey — who for days refused to comment on her client’s marriage — told us, “I am not commenting on Mariah’s personal life, but Mariah is focusing on her children and her upcoming tour.” Some sources speculated that cheating was the reason for the split. Page Six reported Carey was so worried about him getting distracted by other women, she dispatched extra security to watch over him while he hosted pool parties in Las Vegas this year.
But Cannon denies he has cheated. We’re told Cannon has been able to see his children during the separation, but that the television host is very upset about his marital situation.
At an event at the Freemason’s Hall in London on Tuesday, Martin was asked if there were any characters he couldn’t kill, because they are needed for the plot.
He said: “I have a large number of important characters who I switch between to tell the entirety of the story, and that limits who I can kill.”
“Sometimes there’s only one character who’s my eye in a particular location, and if I kill that character everything going on in that particular subplot is going to be lost.”

Challenge: Design a red-carpet look for Heidi to wear to the Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
Parameters: One day to work, $250 to spend, plus one consultation with Heidi. Amanda has immunity.
During her first walkthrough, Heidi gives calm, flat "Not gonna happen" critiques to Korina, Kristine, Mitchell, and Sandhya, all related in some way to the materials they chose. After a bit more time passes, Tim and Heidi enter the workroom again, this time with a life raft, sort of: Because Heidi's gotta wear one of these looks, she wants the designers to have the opportunity to start over and make better decisions. She gives them the option of going back to Mood with an extra $100 a piece. They'd lose valuable workroom time, but gain a second chance to make something Heidi-worthy -- a second chance some of them desperately need.
Char, Sandhya, Mitchell, Samantha, Korina, and Kristine take the money and the second Mood trip. Sandhya takes the opportunity to ask her fellow designers for any money they won't be using, once again proving that she's tackling her time on the show with some measure of strategic thinking.

Are you excited to be at the Emmys, or is it just something you’re obligated to do?
I mean, obviously I haven’t been nominated in the past, but anything where you’re getting super gussied up and wearing uncomfortable shoes and watching people make speeches hasn’t been my cup of tea. I’m legitimately excited, though.
When you watch an award show at home, are you reverent about it, or do you make snarky comments?
A combination of the two. I generally watch it with friends, and we wear sweatpants and eat a lot of food. It’s my ideal way to enjoy an award show. I’m never jealous of the people who are there in uncomfortable clothing and restrictive ensembles.

As we know, playing an LGBT character has been a Oscar good luck charm to many an actor, from Sean Penn to William Hurt to Charlize Theron or Hilary Swank to Jared Leto... But how many openly LGBT actors have won Oscars for playing LGBT characters? None. In fact, the only openly LGBT actor who has won an Oscar for playing a character of any orientation was Angelina Jolie for "Girl, Interrupted" (unless you count Jodie Foster or Kevin Spacey) and only a scant few others -- Ian McKellan the only one for playing an LGBT role in "Gods and Monsters" -- have even been nominated. The Emmys, however, are a much different story.
Over the past two weeks we've been looking back at every example in chronological order. Leading up to this year's 7 nominees, we counted 15 different LGBT characters played by 13 openly LGBT actors-

"I was given the opportunity to create my own theme for the class," he told HipHopDX. "I decided to center the class on good kid, m.A.A.d city because I think Kendrick Lamar is the James Joyce of hip-hop–i.e. in the complexity of his storytelling, in his knowledge of the canon, and in his continuing focus on the city of his upbringing - Compton."
Good Kid will be studied by the class next term alongside poems and novels from other centuries that also deal with growing up.
"The course is a freshman composition course, so I am teaching these works (i.e. [James Joyce's] A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Gwendolyn Brooks’ Selected Poems, James Baldwin’s Going to Meet the Man, Boyz N The Hood, and good kid, m.A.A.d city) in the context of writing a research paper about one of the issues involved in the texts (e.g. gang warfare, police brutality, racism, incarceration rates, human trafficking, etc.)," Diehl added.
"The class will hopefully produce much discussion about the issues that Joyce/Baldwin/Brooks/Singleton/Lamar raise, and hopefully the content of the class will inspire students to find an outlet to bring some sanity to our own mad city–Augusta."
Kendrick Lamar recently revealed plans for the follow-up album to Good Kid, which he hopes to release around the end of the year and is confident will be his best yet.

Internet, your prayers have been answered: As announced Friday on Twitter by Marvel Entertainment’s Ryan Penagos, Funko Toys will be releasing an official toy of Guardians of the Galaxy’s Dancing Groot later this year. Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” sold separately, of course.
It’s worth pointing out that the Funko toy doesn’t appear to actually dance; it's a static plastic toy, like other Funko releases. Note, however, that Penagos calls it “the first official Dancing Groot toy,” suggesting that others might be on their way — hopefully including a wiggle or two in its pot.
The much-anticipated news follows weeks of unofficial, fan-created versions being released online, whether as YouTube videos, Etsy creations or even manipulated versions of existing Funko toys — and comes exactly one week after Marvel took the unusual step of releasing the scene from the end of the movie online as a stand-alone video.

James Franco will play airhead journalist Dave Skylark in the new film "The Interview", and for next week's MTV VMA awards, Franco has decided to interview a few of the performing artists in character.
With a similar approach as Will Ferrell's Ron Burgundy interviews for MTV years back, the interaction seems semi-scripted, the artists clearly in on the joke, but possibly improvising to some degree.
He tests Iggy's fanciness, and obsesses over Nicki's ass (including a very clever misreading of "Super Bass') to hilarious results. Seth Rogen also reprises his role from the upcoming film.

Leslie Jordan (Will & Grace) let rip at fellow Celebrity Big Brother housemate Frenchy (Rock of Love) today, calling her a "stinking French slut".
The pair locked horns once again after the actor found food scattered over the floor - shortly after claiming to have seen the blonde model in the area. As Leslie gets fired up, the camera turns to Frenchy as she pours water over the bedroom, casually saying "oops" as she goes, before emerging into the tense house moments later.
Edele Lynch then confronts the busty contestant about the food, saying "did you do this?" When Frenchy says no, Edele asks: "Well how did it get all over the floor then? That's the only food we have."
Keen to get his revenge, Leslie then asks Frenchy: "Where's your make-up?" And just to anger him more, she says: "I don't care about any of my stuff, I have thousands of dollars I can buy other stuff."
When Edele persists, Frenchy says she has "no idea" why they think she scattered the food, and adds: "They've been picking on me yesterday, this morning."She goes on: "I don't know why he's (Leslie) saying that, I think he's crazy you know."
That's around when it turns ugly, because Leslie then appears with his shredded underwear, and when Dee asks what he's holding, he says: "They're my $100 Jos. A. Bank underwear that she took scissors to."
Ever the humorous one, Gary Busey adds: "Well she's fun!".
Leslie says in a tearful voice: "My boyfriend bought me these, now if I retaliate by going to get some of her stuff and throwing it in the pool."
Gary then says: "If she cuts any of my clothes then she's gone, I mean literally."
When Frenchy finally reappears, she's asked if she's responsible and she simply says "what, me?" in an innocent voice, before walking off.

While the entire franchise gets collectively called Sailor Moon, the anime version of Japan’s most successful magical girl saga is technically divided up into a string of year-long sequel series. The initial 1992 season, Pretty Solider Sailor Moon, led directly into Sailor Moon R, Sailor Moon S, Sailor Moon SuperS, and finally Sailor Moon Sailor Stars, before the whole thing was rebooted with this year’s Sailor Moon Crystal.
So really it’s only natural that the now sold-out line of Sailor Moon lingerie is now getting a follow-up, with upgrades for the core cast of five Sailor Senshi and what appears to be a few new friends joining them.
