Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reboot to (go) go in 2016!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

If this summer’s TMNT reboot wasn’t enough to whet your 90’s nostalgia appetite, a second course is just 344 days away: Lionsgate has announced that it will release the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie on July 22, 2016.

Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (Thor) wrote the script based on a story by Robert Orci (Star Trek) that reinvents the tale of ordinary high school kids who possess the power to save the world. The color-coordinated crime fighters first jump-kicked into the national consciousness with a 1993 Fox Kids TV series, and just two years later Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie hit screens.

Though speculation abounds, no director or casting has been announced. The film’s release date will put the Rangers up against royalty, in a sense—Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur is slated to hit theaters the same day.

Girls actor Zosia Mamet reveals her battle with an eating disorder

Zosia Mamet has candidly revealed her almost lifelong battle with an eating disorder.

“I've struggled with an eating disorder since I was a child,” writes the actor, 26, in a column.

“This struggle has been mostly a private one, a war nobody knew was raging inside me. I tried to fight it alone for a long time. And I nearly died.”

The Girls actor says her problem with food started when she was a young child.

"I was told I was fat for the first time when I was eight. I'm not fat; I've never been fat,” writes Mamet in the September issue of Glamour Magazine.

“But ever since then, there has been a monster in my brain that tells me I am - that convinces me my clothes don't fit or that I've eaten too much.”

It led to years of Mamet abusing her body, starving herself and exercising too much in order to achieve an impossible ideal.

“I was only 17, living in misery, waiting to die,” she writes.

She says it took an intervention from her family to make her realise she had a very real problem.

“My dad eventually got me into treatment. He came home one night from a party, took me by the shoulders, and said, ‘You're not allowed to die,’” Mamet recalls.

“It was the first time I realised this wasn't all about me. I didn't care if I died, but my family did.

“That's the thing about these kinds of disorders: They're consuming; they make you egocentric; they're all you can see."

Walking Dead creator hints Daryl could be gay

Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman has answered fan speculation about the sexuality of show character Daryl Dixon in an interview with, saying fans shouldn’t rule out a same-sex love interest for Daryl.

The TV series briefly depicted a lesbian relationship between characters Alicia, played by actress Juliana Harkavy, and Tara Chambers, played by Alanna Masterson, but Alicia was killed off before the end of Season 4 of the show. The Walking Dead comic books have a bad ass gay character named Jesus but male same-sex attraction is yet to be delved into in the TV adaptation.

Daryl, played by actor Norman Reedus, has had several close friendships with women on the show but no explicitly romantic connection yet and Kirkman told that he had definitely talked with the show’s writers about what direction they might take the character in in terms of sexuality.

When asked about the possibility that Daryl is gay Kirkman said, ‘All I can say is that it’s been discussed. We have very specific ideas about Daryl’s sexuality, or the seeming lack thereof, and if there’s ever a quiet period in the show where he’s not consistently distracted by crossbowing, we’ll tackle it in the show.

When asked if that was something the show’s producers would allow, Kirkman replied, ‘For the record, they absolutely would.’

Robin Williams Had 'Early Stages of Parkinson's Disease,' Wife Says

Susan Schneider, the wife of Robin Williams, has disclosed that her late husband had early stages of Parkinson's disease at the time of his death earlier this week.

Williams, 63, died of a suspected suicide at his Tiburon, Calif. home on Aug. 11, local authorities said.

Schneider's full statement on Thursday:

“Robin spent so much of his life helping others. Whether he was entertaining millions on stage, film or television, our troops on the frontlines, or comforting a sick child — Robin wanted us to laugh and to feel less afraid.

Since his passing, all of us who loved Robin have found some solace in the tremendous outpouring of affection and admiration for him from the millions of people whose lives he touched. His greatest legacy, besides his three children, is the joy and happiness he offered to others, particularly to those fighting personal battles.

Robin's sobriety was intact and he was brave as he struggled with his own battles of depression, anxiety as well as early stages of Parkinson's Disease, which he was not yet ready to share publicly.

It is our hope in the wake of Robin’s tragic passing, that others will find the strength to seek the care and support they need to treat whatever battles they are facing so they may feel less afraid.”

HBO Renews ‘The Leftovers’ for Season 2

HBO’s drama series The Leftovers has been renewed for a second season, the cable network announced on Wednesday.

Created by Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof and novelist Tom Perrotta, The Leftovers chronicles the lives of people left behind after 2% of the world’s population disappeared without a trace in a Rapture-like event.

“We are thrilled to bring back The Leftovers for a second season with the exceptional talents of Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta,” president of HBO programming Michael Lombardo said in a press release. “It has been truly exciting to see the overwhelming response to their provocative and original storytelling. We look forward to continuing the journey as the show delves deeper into the lives of those who remain.”

The show premiered on 29 June, with 1.77 million viewers tuning in for the first episode in its 10pm Sunday slot, according to TV by the Numbers. Across platforms, however, the show’s first two episodes grabbed an average of eight million viewers, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The series is based on Perrotta’s novel by the same name. The series takes an intimate look at how the residents of a fictional town in New York are handling life on earth three years after the Rapture – “… or was it the Rapture?” HBO teases in its press release.

The 10-episode first season stars Justin Theroux and features Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston and Liv Tyler in recurring roles. The season finale is slated for 7 September.

Benedict Cumberbatch more popular than Jay-Z and Beyoncé

Fans flock to snap up tickets for 'Sherlock' star's upcoming London theater performance as 'Hamlet'

An upcoming Benedict Cumberbatch-starring Shakespearean theater show has become the U.K.’s most in-demand theatrical production of all time, according to local ticket website Viagogo.

Hamlet, featuring the Sherlock star in the title role, isn’t due to being its 12-week run at London’s Barbican until summer 2015, but it has already topped theater charts since tickets went on sale Monday.

Not only is it outselling the next most popular shot, A Streetcar Named Desire, starring Gillian Anderson, by four to one, but in the hours after tickets were released Viagogo registered 214 per cent more ticket searches than Jay Z and Beyonce’s On the Run tour.

"The tragedy has instead become the success story for theater in 2015," said a Viagogo spokesperson in a statement. "But will Benedict be or not be a worthy Hamlet – that is the question."

Cumberbatch, who will appear in a number of upcoming projects, including The Imitation Game and the concluding third Hobbit film and is up for an Emmy for Sherlock, has taken to theater stage several times before. In 2011 he starred in Danny Boyle’s adaptation of Frankenstein, alternating between Victor Frankenstein and his creature opposite Jonny Lee Miller.

Plastic Water Bottle Ruins 'Downton Abbey' Season 5 Promo Pictures

It's often credited for its realistic depiction of life in 1920s Britain.

But ITV hit Downton Abbey will lose serious authenticity after a plastic water bottle caused a very modern mishap on Thursday.

The offending item, which has a blue bottle top, can clearly be seen in a promotional picture for the forthcoming fifth series.

The gaffe, which will surely enrage production staff on the smash-hit series, is evident behind Laura Carmichael posing as Lady Edith Crawley with Hugh Bonneville. The continuity error is forty years too soon because plastic bottles like the one seen weren't widely used in the UK until the early 1960s. Fans noted the mistake when images were circulated ahead of the show's return in the autumn.

Corey Stoll for GQ magazine (!!!)

Corey Stoll Punches Out in Fall's Freshest Pinstripes

They used to be called banker stripes, but now that they're being worn outside the office—and even migrating off suits onto vests and sweatpants—that term sounds like ancient history. Here, show-stealing actor Corey Stoll wears a new generation of pinstripes for the freelance era

Corey Stoll can disappear into a look. Scanning a vending machine in a blazer and a slouchy T-shirt, he's barely recognizable as the hardscrabble, coke-addicted congressman in House of Cards, or the bewigged Hemingway from Midnight in Paris, or the uptight Paul Altman in this fall's preposterously star-filled This Is Where I Leave You. Stoll in a cardigan versus Stoll in a waistcoat versus Stoll in his career-defining moment, nude and cripplingly drunk in a bathtub contemplating suicide—those are three very different Stolls. He made it out of that bathtub but didn't last long. His kill-off in season one at the hands of Kevin Spacey—"It was a great way to die," Stoll says—was a shock but catapulted his career and freed him to take all the projects he'd failed to land in his twenties.

Jennette McCurdy Shades Ariana Grande In Her New Webseries

Jennette McCurdy Disses Ariana Grande in Web Series 'What's Next for Sarah': Ariana's Fans Fire Back

Jennette McCurdy's Sam & Cat days may be behind her, but she's already got a new project for fans to feast their eyes upon – a web series she wrote and stars in, called What's Next for Sarah?

Those hoping for some insight into the feud between Jennette and her former Nickelodeon co-star Ariana Grande get a good taste in the third episode of the series. Yep, it looks like there's some shade being thrown Ariana's way, as a character named Gloriana pops up. It's not pretty.

In addition to the similar name, she's got a definite Ariana vibe (she's a vegan singer). Jennette hasn't kept her Ari disses to just the series either, as she and P*rez Hilton struck up a Twitter convo that had some of Ariana's fans pretty upset.

P*rez noted, "It was super funny!!! Can I be in an upcoming episode? I can be #Gloriana's obnoxious gay brother! Ha"

Jennette responded, "@P*rezHilton oh my god yes!! Or gloriana's boyfriend who gets cheated on 8 times?" Ouch.

P*rez fired back: "@jennettemccurdy OMFG!!!!! Too good!!!!! I'm not even joking! Let's make this happen! P.S. I heard that Gloriana gets around!"

As for the Arianators who have been firing off the hate at Jennette, she tweeted: "god all this fodder about shade. if you're so worried about shade, get off your computer & go outside. plenty of sun. #whatsnextforsarah"

"Gloriana" shows up around the 2:50 mark

Robert Knepper and Cynthia Addai-Robinson Join History’s ‘Texas Rising’

HISTORY’s eight-hour television event series TEXAS RISING will premiere Memorial Day 2015, it was announced today by Dirk Hoogstra, Executive Vice President and General Manager, HISTORY & H2. The series will detail the Texas Revolution and the rise of the legendary Texas Rangers.

In 1836, west of the Mississippi was considered the Wild West and the Texas frontier was viewed as hell on earth. Crushed from the outside by Mexican armadas and attacked from within by ferocious Comanche tribes – no one was safe. But this was a time of bravery, a time to die for what you believed in and a time to stand tall against the cruel rule of the Mexican General Santa Anna. The heroic General Sam Houston, the rag tag Rangers and the legendary "Yellow Rose of Texas,” lead this story of the human will to win against insurmountable odds. At the end, the Texas flags stood tall and Victorious, claiming a piece of history for all eternity.

Ariana Grande cover Billboard!

Even though she's scored one of 2014's biggest summer hits and starred on a Nickelodeon series, Ariana Grande believes the public is woefully misinformed on Ariana Grande. If you ask her, the person behind "Problem" is far more "sardonic" than sweet.

In her new Billboard cover story, the 21-year-old singer attempts to brush aside the idea that she's a pint-sized Mariah Carey or a wholesome girl-next-door type by telling us the truth about the people -- some living, some dead, some murderous -- who have inspired her since childhood.

Here are five surprising role models Ariana Grande name-checks in the latest Billboard cover story.

Helena Bonham Carter
Describing herself as "a very weird little girl," Grande tells Billboard she took inspiration from cinema's reigning goth queen as a child: "I was like a mini-Helena Bonham Carter."

Freddy Krueger
"I always wanted to have face paint on or be wearing a Freddy Krueger mask, and I would carry a hockey stick around," she describes of life growing up in Boca Raton, Fla. Aside from aping Freddy and Jason, Ariana was obsessed with an aquatic serial killer, too: "For my fifth birthday party we had a Jaws theme and all my friends left crying."

Guillermo del Toro Mentions "Monster" Adaptation in Sugoi Japan Endorsement

One of Japan's largest newspapers, the Yomiuri Shimbun, is organizing Sugoi Japan, a program to promote Japanese popular media by compiling lists of the best examples. Following conversations with pop culture authority Kaichiro Morikawa, author Fuminori Nakamura, and feminist manga critic Yukari Fujimoto, they've posted an endorsement from director Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pacific Rim, Pan's Labyrinth), in which he mentions plans for an adaptation of the manga Monster.

Last year, speaking at the fourth annual Hero Complex Film Festival, del Toro said he has submitted a pilot script for the adaptation of Naoki Urasawa's award-winning Monster manga to HBO and was waiting to hear from the cable network if the series would go forward.

“You cannot compress ‘Monster’ into a feature,” del Toro said of the project he is co-writing with “Doctor Who” and “Sherlock” writer Steven Thompson. “‘Monster’ is almost like Chekhovian, it has all these little characters that are incredibly smart and delineated. Each of them has an arc and if you follow all of them, at the end of the last book you will be satisfied.”

Joseph Gordon-Levitt: 'I’d absolutely call myself a feminist'

JGL is among the handful of male celebrities to use the "f" word

Joseph Gordon-Levitt thinks this whole trend of celebrities shunning the “feminism” label is bizarre. As the Sin City: A Dame To Kill For actor clarified to The Daily Beast, he considers himself a feminist. And he gave an in-depth definition of what he believes feminism is. See below:

I read that you consider yourself a “male feminist,” and you credit your parents who are educators and really taught you about the history of feminism. But nowadays, you have a lot of young stars coming out against being labeled a feminist.

Coming out against the label? Wow. I guess I’m not aware of that. What that means to me is that you don’t let your gender define who you are—you can be who you want to be, whether you’re a man, a woman, a boy, a girl, whatever. However you want to define yourself, you can do that and should be able to do that, and no category ever really describes a person because every person is unique. That, to me, is what “feminism” means. So yes, I’d absolutely call myself a feminist. And if you look at history, women are an oppressed category of people. There’s a long, long history of women suffering abuse, injustice, and not having the same opportunities as men, and I think that’s been very detrimental to the human race as a whole. I’m a believer that if everyone has a fair chance to be what they want to be and do what they want to do, it’s better for everyone. It benefits society as a whole.

So count JGL among the list of famous people who has spoken out in favor of feminism—or at least a personal version of feminism. (Yes, Pharrell, men can be feminists too.)
