Janet Jackson Checked Out 40 Mercer Street Penthouse

Janet Jackson, the "I Want You" singer was reportedly spotted checking out the stunning penthouse atop the 40 Mercer Street building in New York City. The residence is asking $13.99 million.

The New York Post reported that the star crooner took a tour of the pad, which is being represented by Fredrik Eklund and John Gomes of Douglas Elliman.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Jackson was offering her Trump International Towers residence for rent asking $35,000 a month. The 1 Central Park West apartment has three bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms. Interiors of the home feature floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Central Park, and a master suite complete with a walk-in closet and marble bath

However, that residence is no longer available for rent now, Streeteasy records show.

The pad that Jackson just checked out is a Jean Nouvel-designed masterpiece. Spanning a total area of 4,506 square feet (1,500-square-feet exteriors) the residence has four bedrooms and three full and one half bathroom.

David Muir to Succeed Diane Sawyer as ABC ‘World News’ Anchor

ABC News on Wednesday announced sweeping changes among its top news personalities, with Diane Sawyer to step down as anchor of the network’s evening newscast in August, replaced by David Muir, a rising star anchor at ABC. George Stephanopoulos, a co-host of “Good Morning America” and the host of the Sunday talk show “This Week,” will become the lead anchor for all breaking news coverage such as election nights.

The changes come as ABC News has mounted a wide-ranging challenge to NBC News as the ratings leader across numerous programs, having already topped NBC’s “Today” show as the dominant morning news program with “Good Morning America,” and edging past “Meet the Press” on Sundays with “This Week.”

Michelle Fairley talks '24' shock, Game of Thrones chatter

Michelle Fairley has made another show-stopping TV exit—only this one had fans cheering and laughing instead of screaming and crying. On Monday’s 24, Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) threw Fairley’s drone-hijacking terrorist Margot Al-Harazi out a fifth story window after she dared to give him some sass-talk. (Plus she was handcuffed, which made it even better). But for Game of Thrones fans, the scene evoked some freaky deja vu: Margot watches her son get killed by Bauer before she’s killed herself, echoing Catelyn Stark’s “Red Wedding” fate. Below, Fairley talks 24: Game of Drones—and also addresses the Thrones fan uproar over a certain “LS.”

Review: The Leftovers is "Something Great," Depressing as Hell

What divine madness could have possibly compelled Damon Lindelof to involve himself with "The Leftovers"?

Why would the co-creator and longtime showrunner of "Lost," who endured so much public abuse because of that series' finale, decide that his next TV project would be a complicated story marked by despair, spirituality and a complete lack of answers to a sweeping cosmic mystery — in other words, three of the things "Lost" fans tended to hate the most? Why would he work with Tom Perrotta to adapt Perrotta's novel about a Rapture-like event, and find a way to make what was already a dark and melancholy story feel so unsparingly bleak that, when I described the show to my wife, she responded, "It doesn't sound like it's a real show. It sounds like it's a psychological experiment Lindelof did to see how many TV critics he could get to commit suicide"?

Maybe it's masochism. Lindelof finally quit Twitter last fall (appropriately, on the date of the show's mysterious Departure), after spending three years flagellating himself in response to the tweets of "Lost" finale haters, and perhaps he needed another source of pain and discomfort.

North Korea Threatens 'Merciless Counter-Measure' If US Doesn't Ban The New Seth Rogen Comedy

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea on Wednesday denounced a forthcoming American comedy film featuring a plot to assassinate its leader Kim Jong Un as an act of terrorism and threatened to unleash a "merciless counter-measure" if Washington failed to ban the movie.

The movie "The Interview", starring Seth Rogen and James Franco, is scheduled for release in October this fall.

"Making and releasing a movie on a plot to hurt our top-level leadership is the most blatant act of terrorism and war and will absolutely not be tolerated," the North's official KCNA news agency quoted a foreign ministry spokesman as saying.

The Hollywood movie recounts the story of a talk show host and his producer who land a rare sit-down interview with Kim, the third leader of his family dynasty to rule North Korea.

New interview with the director and character designer of Sailor Moon Crystal

“Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon” caused a huge boom 20 years ago with that memorable line “In the name of the moon, I’ll punish you!” It is well known that this story about middle school girls who form a team, transform beautifully, and fight monsters had a strong influence all over the world.

And now as part of the 20th anniversary, a new anime “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal” is finally going to begin in July! The “crystal” in the title refers to a return to the beautiful, still shining original manga and was the idea of Yuu Kamiki (Toei Animation), approved by creator Ms. Naoko Takeuchi.

“I want to take the entire world of the series in an aesthetic direction so I think the name is perfect,” says director Munehisa Sakai.

This time the animation concept is to “keep the original design of the manga as it is and turn it into an anime.” They’ve also said “We want grown women who watched the original anime to watch this!”, so it seems we can hope for that same splendor of our transforming heroines with a mature feel.

Jennie Garth SLAMS 90210 reboot ......

Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling dished about their “Beverly Hills, 90210″ cast mates — and possibly reuniting with Shannen Doherty on their new ABC Family show “Mystery Girls” — during an interview on Tuesday’s “Just Jenny” show on SiriusXM.
The actresses reminisced about the old days with radio host Jenny Hutt during a game of “90210-IT-ALL.”While Garth didn’t have an answer for that question, she did admit that she would rather be stranded on an island with Doherty than former co-star Tiffani Thiessen.
Both stars agreed it would be fun to have Doherty make a guest appearance on “Mystery Girls.”
“The original threesome,” said Spelling, “Me, Jen and Shannen, that’s how it should be on this show.”
Garth then noted how the new “90210″ cast didn’t have the same spark as the show’s original actors.“That’s an example of a cast that really didn’t have that chemistry,” she said. “It’s hard to find actors who have that.”She added, “It’s like lightning in a bottle, you either have it or you don’t.”

Best Jumping-On Points for New Comics Readers

marvel universe

The world of mainstream superhero comics is notoriously hard to become acclimated to. The characters have decades-long histories and the serialized, soap operatic nature of the storytelling has created an insular fan club mentality that makes the average monthly comic harder to pick up for a new reader than just about any form of entertainment.

All that said, one of our readers on Facebook recently asked us the following:

Hey...I just started getting into comics. I went to my local store and honestly it was overwhelming with the sheer amount of comic books. Where do I start?

For the sake of convenience, we've decided to break down our suggestions into one or two per character or title, going in more or less random order of how they occur to us. We'll talk mostly about trade paperbacks and other collected editions, although in some cases where there's a free or cheap issue we may insert a link there.

Michael Vick responds to animal rights complaints

Vick's felonious past was dredged up again in March, when the Jets signed him to a one-year, $4 million contract. The blowback wasn't nearly as severe as it was when he signed with the Eagles in 2009, but it prompted a group in Cortland, New York -- home of the Jets' training camp -- to start a petition aiming to ban him from camp. More than 20,000 signed the online petition.

Vick said he had no reaction when he heard about it.

"Why? Why would I? My life has nothing to do with their life and their beliefs," he said. "I mean, what's done is done. Look at all the good. My message to them is, look at the good I've done, all the thousands of lives that I've saved, the people I've saved. That's most important. That's what the focus should be on, the lives that are being affected."

"NY Med" returns tomorrow at 10PM EST on ABC

After nearly two years of production, "NY MED" is back. This fast-paced, eight-part series mostly toggles between the orderly operating rooms of Manhattan's New York-Presbyterian Hospital -- the primary venue for the series -- where renowned surgeons perform feats of medical brilliance, and the sometimes hectic trauma wards of Newark's University Hospital where skilled doctors gallantly struggle to treat a flood of gunshot, stabbing and life-threatening trauma cases. The surgeons of NY Med never forget that there are limits to what medical science can do and that sometimes their best efforts come up short. In "Episode 201," which airs THURSDAY, JUNE 26 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET), viewers will encounter the following patients, doctors and nurses:

Most people know America's most famous doctor as "Dr. Oz," but Mehmet Oz was a cardiac surgeon long before TV discovered him, and he still is, performing surgeries most weeks of the year. In this premiere episode, surgeon Oz stops to chat with 27-year old Juan Vasquez who has come to the ER with discomfort in his chest. In a blood-chilling instant, Juan convulses in agony and the look in Oz's eyes is unmistakable. This is a life-threatening crisis. Oz believes the man's aorta has ripped from his chest down to the main artery in his leg. Every second counts and Oz knows he must make perfect decisions in exactly the right order if this young man's life can be saved.

Marina, Diana and Katie--the ER's compassionate, competent and sometimes hilarious nurses from the first season of NY MED--return. They confront everything from subway tragedies to romantic suitors feigning medical syndromes. In this first episode, they treat a young woman with a bizarre injury that leaves the staff both baffled and impressed.

Don't miss the "NY MED" premiere, THURSDAY, JUNE 26 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Mia Wasikowska & John Cusack Reunite in Clip from "Maps To The Stars"

"There were a couple of Hollywood producers, and one of them said, 'I could not do this movie, because I could not do that to this business that has been so good to me,' " David Cronenberg said about Maps To The Stars at the Provincetown Film Festival (via THR). "But I actually had the head of a studio come over to me in Cannes, hug me and say, 'Your movie scared the shit out of me. I had nightmares about it all night. And then the next day I went to a party at the Hotel du Cap, and all I could see was scenes from your movie.' So I thought that was a positive reaction."

And indeed, his Hollywood satire did receive some good notices from the Croisette, including our own review which called it "the director's most twisted, and as a consequence, most deliciously entertaining film, in quite a long while." And this new clip highlights the cynical tone of this film, with father and daughter, John Cusack and Mia Wasikowska, having a conversation shrouded in some regrets and therapy chatter ("that's a victim question"). It's a pretty nice cut from the movie and Cusack looks pretty great.

9 (5) Reasons The Notebook Still Sucks a Decade Later

If you already know this is going to make you angry, just stop reading now

I will admit that when I first watched The Notebook, it was under less than ideal circumstances. I was 13, and I watched the DVD (rented from Blockbuster—yes, Blockbuster still existed) with my parents while on vacation. My view of what many argue is the best part of the movie—that one scene in the rain—was obscured by a book my mother was desperately waving in front of the TV in an effort to preserve my innocence. And I’m pretty sure I missed a good 15 minutes of the plot setup making popcorn. But I remember thinking the film was sappy and stupid.

Most people don’t agree with me. The 2004 film, which is based on a 1996 Nicholas Sparks novel, is now a cultural phenomenon. In particular, the famous kissing scene is now so iconic that it’s constantly clipped and parodied. It’s also developed into an audience favorite: it may have a score of 52 from critics on Rotten Tomato, but audiences have given the 2004 romantic drama an 85.

So given how much people love this movie, I decided to give it another shot. At 13 I hadn’t yet fallen in love or had my heart broken, and I probably didn’t have a firm grasp on what Alzheimer’s really was. So as a world-weary 23-year-old who is far more susceptible to tearjerkers, I re-watched The Notebook for its 10th anniversary. And it was even more terrible than I remember. Here’s why.

'Avengers 2: Age Of Ultron:' Check Out Thor's New Costume

Add Thor to the growing list of characters getting a new look for the "Avenger 2," Moviepilot reports.

Chris Hemsworth was recently photographed in-costume, and while the differences in his character's outfit are pretty subtle, they do show a progression that Moviepilot's Kit Simpson Browne notes makes sense:

"Take a closer look, though, and it's acquired a distinctly less golden tint, with the central metallic sections becoming silver... Could this be a direct response to the events of 'Thor: The Dark World,' and a visual prompt of a shift in Thor's focus towards Midgard? Or, alternatively, is it just intended to be a sleeker, more Ultron-bashing-friendly adaptation? Could the price of gold have simply gone up in the MCU? We may never know."

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck bring Project Greenlight back to HBO

Ready to be judged by Batman and Jason Bourne? Now's your chance. HBO has announced that they're bringing back the talent competition "Project Greenlight," allowing aspiring filmmakers to submit for the chance to make a feature film -- under the watchful eye of producers Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and a crew of reality TV cameras.

A reality show born of the late-90s indie film boom, the first two seasons of "Project Greenlight" produced a few underseen features -- "Stolen Summer," "The Battle of Shaker Heights" and "Feast" -- that did not launch any megastar careers (well, except for "Shaker Heights" actor Shia LeBeouf, that is). Of course, that was a pre-YouTube era, when cell phones weren't capable of shooting HD video. How that changes the playing field could be most interesting.

In the amusing and self-deprecating announcement video below, Affleck and Damon admit to not having had any new ideas in 13 years (when the last "Project Greenlight" ended), before encouraging the "next great filmmaker" to take a chance on entering. Not listed among the contest prizes is the chance to hang out with Affleck and Damon, but you have to admit, that looks like fun.

Submissions open on July 24th and close August 8th. More information is available at projectgreenlight.com.

Starbucks launches handcrafted sodas, yogurt smoothies, cold-pressed juices

Starbucks is adding some new drink options to its menu, but don't expect to see a new Frappuccino or coffee-laced beverage.

The Seattle-based coffee giant has started serving handcrafted sodas, shaken iced teas and cold-pressed juices. Starbucks also began testing yogurt smoothies Tuesday.

The new Fizzio handcrafted sodas are available in spiced root beer with cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and star anise; golden ginger ale with ginger, citrus and brown sugar; and lemon ale with a blend of lemon juice, apricot and ginger. Each drink contains 100 calories or less in a 16-ounce Grande.

Using the Fizzio soda machine, baristas can now add carbonation to any beverage for 50 cents. They can also adjust the amount of carbonation in the existing flavors. The sodas are available in 3,500 stores nationwide, including Los Angeles.

In addition to the sodas, Starbucks is offering new Teavana shaken iced teas, with blackberry mojito tea lemonade and peach green tea lemonade.

The company is also jumping on the cold-pressed juice trend with three new Evolution Fresh juices: coconut water and greens, smooth greens, and organic sweet greens with ginger. About 170 Starbucks locations in San Jose and St. Louis also began testing an Evolution Fresh juice smoothie made with Dannon Greek yogurt.

Starbucks said it also plans to launch an Evolution Fresh inspired by Dannon's packaged line at Starbucks outlets and retail stores nationwide in 2015.

"We want the house guests to feel like they were growing up and bring out the playful side," said host Julie Chen. "It might also bring out the immature side."

This year's house features a range of guests, including a pedicab driver, a recent nursing school graduate and a barista.

Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan could reunite in "Ithaca"

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Tom Hanks is in talks to reunite with his Sleepless in Seattle co-star star Meg Ryan in Ithaca, the film adaptation of William Saroyan's classic 1943 novel The Human Comedy that marks the actress' directorial debut.

Hanks would make a cameo in the Word War II coming-of-age saga about life on the home front. He's already closely involved in the project, serving as executive producer alongside his partner at Playtone, Gary Goetzman.

Ithaca will mark the fourth time that Hanks and Ryan have appeared on the big screen together after Joe Versus the Volcano, Sleepless in Seattle and You've got Mail, their last film and released in 1998.

Set in a small town in California's San Joaquin Valley in 1942, Ithaca recounts the story of 14-year-old Homer Macauley, a telegraph bike messenger. His older brother has gone to fight in World War II, leaving him to care for his widowed mother, his older sister and his four-year-old brother, Ulysses. The effects of the war are revealed as Homer delivers messages of love, friendship, pain and death, including one message that alters his own life forever. Hanks would play the boy's father, who is sent off to war and seen via flashbacks.

Deadline reports that 'Sex And The City' star Sarah Jessica Parker is ready to make her return to television in the police crime thriller BUSTED. Sex and the City's Sarah Jessica Parker is attached to star in one of the two main roles in the hourlong show. David Frankel is attached to direct and executive produce the pilot. Don Roos will write the pilot. SKE President Jim Tauber, SKE President of Production Carla Hacken, and Steve Golin, Managing Partner of Anonymous Content, announced it.

Book is based on investigative reporters Wendy Ruderman's and Barbara Laker's non-fiction book of the same name. Published by Harper Collins in March, it chronicles their efforts to uncover one of the biggest police corruption scandals in Philadelphia's history. Richard Linklater on Living With Bernie Tiede

Less than two months ago, a judge in Panola County, Texas, ordered the early release of Bernie Tiede, the now-55-year-old convicted murderer played by Jack Black in Richard Linklater’s 2012 dark comedy, “Bernie.” One of the conditions: that Tiede live in Linklater’s garage apartment.

“It got reported strangely,” the director admits. “There were headlines like ‘Judge Orders Murderer to Live With Filmmaker.’ There were jokes immediately on the Internet, like ‘Zodiac Killer Crashing at Fincher’s.’

Sebastian Stan Will Star (and Star, And Star Again) In “ARQ”

Sebastian Stan will star in the indie sci-fi film ARQ. Written by Tony Elliott and directed by Craig David Wallace, the film follows an engineer who has survived the collapse of civilization, and is now reliving the last day of his life over and over again. Sarah Timmons and Christina Piovesan are producing and Peter Block is executive producing for Corvid Pictures.

“ARQ” is the first feature film from Elliott, and depending on shooting and release dates, will be either the first or second from Wallace. Elliott’s previous work has been as a story editor and writer for BBC America’s “Orphan Black,” while Wallace created and executive produced the Canadian horror comedy series “Todd & the Book of Pure Evil” (a project which he worked on with Corvid Pictures). Of course, writers and directors often change tonally between projects–just look at Steven Soderbergh–but based on what there is of Wallace and Elliott’s previous work, I think it’s safe to say that “ARQ” will not be aiming for understated.

Even though I am slightly tired of time-loop movies, this one sound genuinely interesting and I am happy for him that he finally got a role post The Winter Soldier, and plus I am always here for original sci-fis too.

As useless as searching for meaning in a Katy Perry concert

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Seeing a Katy Perry concert raises lots of questions. Is there symbolism behind each wig change? Are those sparkle cat costumes an homage to “Cats: The Musical”? Does she really believe that stars are “cosmic jewels”? What’s with that music video interlude that shows her in a mental institution? Why is there pizza on stage?

It quickly becomes apparent, though, that searching for meaning at a Katy Perry concert – one that is filled with impossibly glittery outfits and neon paint and people dressed as animals – is an intriguing but useless exercise. And it was clear that during Perry’s sold-out show at the Verizon Center on Tuesday night that no one was supposed to do anything but scream, dance with reckless abandon and take in the brightly colored spectacle in front of them.

Online Dating Advice From Catfish's Nev Schulman

From reader Melissa: Dear Nev, Do you think online dating and all the ways to meet someone online have helped dating or hurt dating? I haven't online-dated, so I have no experience there, but lots of friends have had more iffy experiences than great ones.

I worry that people now think they will find the fairy-tale prince charming because there are so many more people to meet online than ever before...but the truth is that every relationship takes work and compromise and has its ups and downs. You have to be willing to stick together and earn each other's love.

Catfish post since the other person is MIA?

Tonight's Catfish episode might be the most confusing love triangle yet.

Strap in, guys: We’re getting ready for this week’s new episode of Catfish, ”Miranda & Cameryn,” and we have a feeling it’s not going to wrap up quite as nicely as last week’s episode did with Solana and Elijah. Once again, someone’s ignoring every glaring red flag that’s popped up in their relationship, all in the name of love — but really, who hasn’t been guilty of that? This time around, it’s Miranda’s turn, and she’s part of the weirdest love triangle we’ve ever heard of. It’s Miranda, James, and Cameryn, except James and Cameryn are the same person. Confused yet? I’ll try to explain.

It all started back when Miranda, a 21-year-old from Minnesota, fell in love with a guy named Cameryn who she (obviously) met online. I can’t blame her — after Catfish showed his photos, I almost fell in love with him. Damn, he’s cute. But as most cute internet boyfriends tend to be, at least on this show, Cameryn wasn’t the real deal, and he proceeded to lead Miranda on.

Then, as they always do, the excuses started happening just as Miranda and Cameryn got close enough that she wanted to meet him: A family emergency here, a broken down car there, and, of course, Catfish’s classic “My webcam is broken.” How many times do Nev and Max have to tell you guys? Skype. It. Out. Seriously. If they won’t Skype, move on. But matters of the heart are not always solved by Skype, and if they were, we wouldn’t have such an awesome show.

Mostly an excuse for a discussion post.

Never really liked Finster for some reason, but his album is pretty good

Tom Hardy Looking All Sorts Of Amazing In The New Set Of "Mad Max Fury Road" Stills!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

It was thirty five years ago that George Miller's Max Mad left a massive impact on the action movie genre as a then 23 year old Mel Gibson took on a leading role in the desolate setting. Mad Max: Fury Road will see the director head back to that world with a new story and cast, and in a brief interview with Entertainment Weekly, Miller said: "I wanted to tell a linear story–a chase that starts as the movie begins and continues for 110 minutes. In this crucible of very intense action, the characters are revealed." What do you guys think about?

Boston EMS: Dozens hospitalized during show at TD Garden

Dozens of teenage ravers were hospitalized tonight during a show at the TD Garden featuring a Swedish DJ, Boston EMS said.

Many of those attending the electronic dance music show featuring DJ Avicii arrived already intoxicated, said Deputy EMS Superintendent Mike Bosse.

EMS transported 22 people to the hospital, and 12 more were being evaluated, Bosse said. After he gave that estimate, patients continued to stream out of the TD Garden. EMS later called for a bus to take another 10 people to hospitals.

“This street is being secured for EMS and EMS only,” Bosse told security at the Garden. “So you better send somebody to talk to me.”

Bosse said he contacted the Boston Police Licensing Division, which arrived and cited the TD Garden for allowing a large number of intoxicated concert goers on the premises.

A similar incident happened at an Avicii concert in Toronto last month
