Iggy Azalea is one of hip hop’s most exciting new artists, as well as one of the genre’s most unexpected success stories. Her rise to prominence is notable not only for what seems like its immediacy, but for how infrequently someone like her makes it to the top. If you’re not keeping up to date on your rap culture or much into top 40 radio, you should know that she is not your typical hip hop star.
Just a few weeks ago, her album “The New Classic” became the highest charting debut album by a female rapper since Nicki Minaj back in 2010, starting at number three. The position is impressive considering she is a brand new name in this country, and she had only achieved her first top 40 hit a few weeks prior.
Making a name for yourself as a woman and hip hop is laudable enough, forget the fact that she is a white, blonde, Australian woman. In a genre dominated almost exclusively by African American men she sticks out like a statuesque thumb.

It seems the Duchess of Cambridge’s absence at Tuesday’s charity dinner at Windsor Castle may have ruffled Ralph Lauren’s feathers.
The American designer, who jetted to London for the event, where he unveiled the Ralph Lauren Breast Cancer Centre, had invited the Duchess to the star-studded dinner for the Royal Marsden cancer center, of which her husband Prince William is patron.
According to the Daily Mail, the Duchess informed organizers she would not be attending—sending the organizers into something of a panic.
“Ralph Lauren had been expecting Kate and was very upset when she said she wasn’t coming,” claims a source.

Jennifer Lopez says she didn’t mean to leave Jennifer Lawrence hanging on the dance floor!
After JLaw chided Jimmy Fallon during a recent “Tonight Show” appearance for making her “look like a freak in front of J.Lo” (when their plan to get the star to dance with them failed), Access Hollywood caught up with J.Lo to see if she recalled the “Hunger Games” star’s gaffe.
“This is how I remember it: I remember that we were at the Met Ball and Kanye was about to perform and it was like a crazy moment,” Jennifer told Access’ Liz Hernandez at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday. “And then they came over, Jimmy Fallon, he started talking and I was with Benny [Medina] and Beau [Casper Smart] and then [JLaw] came over too. It was like they were a little group.
“And then she was like, ‘Let’s go dance,’ and I was like, ‘No, I’m good right here,’” J.Lo continued. “But I didn’t mean it like ‘I don’t want to dance with you.’ I just meant like, it’s so crowded in here let’s stay right here.”
The singer, who took home the Icon Award at Sunday’s show, said she would’ve loved to dance with 23-year-old actress.
“Absolutely. Come on! That would’ve been so sweet,” she said.

The English language is always adding new words. Why, just a few years ago, there was no way to tell a social-networking fangirl that it was a spoiler alert to talk about who was catfished on MTV last night, nor was there a way to properly discuss a social networking hashtag of a steampunk tweep taking a selfie while listening to auto-tune dubstep.
Merriam-Webster has fixed this by adding 150 new words to its official dictionary in 2014. Here are just some of the new additions:
selfie [noun, 2002]: an image of oneself taken by oneself using a digital camera, especially for posting on social networks

There's still a few days left until Xavier Dolan makes his Official Cannes Competition debut with his fifth feature "Mommy," but he's tweeted out the film's provocative poster to get us all the more excited.
The poster features Antoine Olivier Pilon kissing the hand he's put over his cinematic mommy Anne Dorval's mouth, with a dialogue between them printed below the image:
"We still love each other, right?"
"That's what we're best at, buddy."
Complete with a gold plated "Mommy" necklace, it's certainly a poster that will get people talking -- though we'll have to wait until the film premieres on Thursday to fully understand what it's suggesting… We, for one, could not be more anxious.

Will Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith have seen their parenting skills come under fire after a picture of their daughter, Willow, 13, in bed with actor Moises Arias, 20, was posted on social media. Now, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned that the Los Angeles Department of Children & Family Services has officially opened an investigation into the incident.
“The investigation was formally opened last week and is being taken very seriously by the department,” an insider told Radar. “Will and Jada Pinkett Smith have been extremely cooperative with officials. Of course, they aren’t happy that their parenting skills are under scrutiny, but they understand.”
The source revealed, “Social workers will also be talking separately with Willow, and they also want to talk to the young man in the picture with her as well. This won’t just be one or two visits with the family, and it will likely be an open investigation for at least a month, out of an abundance of caution.”

With the recent release of the second Captain America film and the upcoming release of Guardians of the Galaxy, I thought it would be a good time to take a look back at the Marvel Cinematic Universe and rank the films from worst to best. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance, and perhaps an extra dose of anger are at the center of HBO’s new teaser for The Leftovers, Damon Lindelof’s next project.
Based on Tom Perrotta’s eponymous 2011 bestseller, The Leftovers stars Justin Theroux, Liv Tyler, Amy Brenneman, and more as a group of New York residents who are left to pick up their lives three years after 2 percent of the world’s population suddenly disappears. (Hence the five stages of grief.)

Her first major Hollywood studio starring performance in the Sony Pictures remake of Annie some months away from its theatrical premiere (December 19, 2014), Quvenzhané Wallis has landed what will be another starring role, this time in an adaptation of author Holly Goldberg Sloan’s New York Times bestselling young adult novel, Counting by 7s.
Set up at The Mazur/Kaplan Company (launched in 2009 by Hollywood producer Paula Mazur and prominent independent bookseller Mitchell Kaplan, with the objective of producing literary properties for film and TV), Counting by 7s tells the story of Willow Chance, a 12 year old genius, coping with the loss of her adoptive parents, and the community of people that rise to become her surrogate family.
Here's an official synopsis, including some explanation for the title:
Willow Chance is a 12-year-old genius, obsessed with nature and diagnosing medical conditions, who finds it comforting to count by 7s. It has never been easy for her to connect with anyone other than her adoptive parents, but that hasn't kept her from leading a quietly happy life... until now. Suddenly, Willow's world is tragically changed when her parents both die in a car crash, leaving her alone in a baffling world.

Game of Thrones nerds like me fell in love with Prince Oberyn of Dorn pretty much as soon as he appeared onscreen at the start of this season. The Red Viper is a likable character for a bunch of reasons — his accent, his air of quiet menace, the fact that he may prove responsible for Tyrion’s continued existence — but even for non-Game of Thrones fans, he’s interesting from a critical point of view for one reason in particular: his exuberant bisexuality. This is a man who spends all his spare time in a local brothel, fucking both men and women with gusto and abandon. For all that Game of Thrones is a strange place to find progressive portrayals, Oberyn is that rarest of TV characters: a man whole falls right smack bang in the middle of the Kinsey scale.

Rumor has it that Emily Blunt and Cate Blanchett are suited up for a watch commercial set in Cannes, which makes the people behind this ad the most creative geniuses in the business. We want to buy whatever watch they're selling and we haven't even seen the spot!
We'd also like to buy both of these tuxedos and pay the glam squad behind these looks to do our hair and makeup every single day. That shouldn't cost too much money, right?
Unfortunately, this double penguin moment is forcing us to declare a fashion cat fight, but in the case of the Edge of Tomorrow star and the Blue Jasmine actress, it's more like a battle between two ferocious fashion lions.
From our point of view, there's only a slight difference between the British beauty and her Aussie look-alike. Mrs. John Krasinski went sans untied bow tie and opted for a black lace-up shoe while the Academy Award-winner donned the classic, end of the night hanging tie look with no shoes and the perfect Hollywood shades.
It's that unfinished, who-gives-a-crap feel that makes Cate the clear winner in our book. She looks like the most elegant and powerful mob boss to ever grace the south of France. What's your take?

For a woman who has one of the most technically astonishing voices in pop music, Mariah Carey has at times seemed oddly inclined to try too hard. And who could blame her, really, given the gleeful snark that she has inspired in detractors — first for sounding (and looking) too perfect, then for her forays into hip-hop and attempts to sustain her viability as younger acolytes crowded the field.
So what's most striking about Carey's new album — titled, rather insistently, Me. I Am Mariah ...The Elusive Chanteuse (***½ out of four) and now streaming on iTunes Radio ahead of its May 27 release — is how relaxed and confident she sounds. Gone is the self-consciousness that marred her last studio album, 2009's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. Instead, Carey — whose delays of Chanteuse's release date inspired predictable hand-wringing (as did the less-than-spectacular performance of the lead singles) — gives the impression that her only concerns are meeting her own standards, and those of the fans who have stuck with her through everything.

Judge Judy PRIMETIME, a one-hour Primetime special for the CBS Television Network that includes new cases and takes a look at how Judge Judith Sheindlin transitioned from New York Family Court Judge to "Judge Judy," will be broadcast tonight, May 20 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Judge Sheindlin's no-nonsense, tough but fair approach to justice has established her as a pop culture icon for generations of viewers around the globe as the #1-rated daytime program in the U.S.
In each case, Judge Sheindlin applies her unique ability to act as a true moral compass and her uncanny ability to ferret out the truth. Also highlighted are classic Judyisms, her hilarious one-liners that have become part of America's lexicon, parodied from "Saturday Night Live" to "Jimmy Kimmel Live."
In addition, the special will include excerpts from the 1993 60 Minutes profile on Judge Sheindlin that led to her being discovered by Hollywood, as well as from the 2003 story when the program revisited the Judge 10 years later.
Nine years ago, Bennett Miller directed Philip Seymour Hoffman in Capote, for which the late star went on to win a best actor Oscar. Critics at Cannes on Monday were tipping Miller to repeat the trick at next year's Academy Awards, following the first screening of his new movie, Foxcatcher – which features a radical change of pace for Steve Carell.
Carell, best known for mainstream comedies such as The 40 Year Old Virgin and Crazy Stupid Love, plays John Eleuthere du Pont, an idiosyncratic multi-millionaire who bankrolled the US wrestling squad in the mid 1990s. With prosthetic nose, whittled eyebrows, yellowing teeth and glassy-eyed stare, Carell's du Pont is an oblique creep, a misguided patriot and a frustrated mummy's boy. Amid a shower of five star reviews, it was Carell's revelatory performance which drew the best notices.
Fans of NBC’s Hannibal already had a pretty good idea that after discovering Hannibal’s true nature, Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) might die in Season 2’s finale — and perhaps leave behind some screen time for one of his female co-stars. Why are we so certain he’ll die, you might ask? For one thing, he was stabbed in the neck in the season trailer released earlier this year. More recently, however, ABC picked up the sitcom Black-ish, in which Fishburne will both star and produce, which leads us to wonder: If he’s busy with a new series, will he be able to continue his stint on Hannibal?

The Normal Heart director Ryan Murphy reveals that the intense sex scenes between the characters played by Mark Ruffalo and Matt Bomer came to fruition with the help of an on-set 'sex choreographer.'
In the movie, which premieres on HBO on Sunday (25 May), Ruffalo plays AIDS activist Ned Weeks while Bomer plays his lover Felix Turner, a journalist.
'We hired a guy who specializes in ... sex choreography,' Murphy tells Huffington Post in an interview published Tuesday (20 May).'So he would come and he would work with the actors and it was like, "Okay, then you move your leg here, and your asshole goes up here, and then your neck goes over here." So we worked on it, so the actors felt like, "Okay, I’m in A Chorus Line. I can do it."'
But Murphy says both actors were 'terrified' to do the scenes because neither had that particular on-screen experience.

The 'Do What U Want' singer has got her brand new world tour underway this month and while the stage is bombarded with outrageous outfits, hunky dancers and explosions of colour, Gaga insists it's not a way of disguising poor vocals.
In an interview with Angie Martinez on Extra TV, Gaga said: “I don’t think it’s cool to lip sync. I’m not judging if people do because it’s everybody’s own style of what they decided to be, the type of artist they will be, but I think if you pay money for a ticket to see a show the artist should f**king have some pipes and sing their records for you.”
Gaga, 28, was forced to cancel dates of of her 'Born This Way Ball' tour last year to undergo hip surgery, and the diva says she now takes full advantage of being able to dance.
“The best part of my day is when I’m on stage performing for the fans, I really love Art Pop so to perform it live, see them singing, dancing is like the best thing ever,” Gaga explained.
“Every day I have to do a totally different thing with my body than I used to, to keep it really healthy, but it feels really good.”
Gaga has so far performed shows in New York City, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Washington and Detroit, and will continue the jaunt tonight in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

It was a showbiz rarity when director-producer Bryan Singer came out as bisexual in an interview published last week. It's the kind of public disclosure that bisexual comedienne Margaret Cho tells Gay Star News she would like to see more of.
'I want to see more bisexual men coming out. I know that they are out there, I know they exist.'
Cho, who just finished a long run on the Lifetime series Drop Dead Diva can't figure out why it seems so difficult for men to acknowledge that they also sleep with men.
'It's a lot harder for the men to feel like they have that freedom and I don't know what it is - this kind of phobia is in place that keeps them from being able to identify as bisexual as readily as women are. That is always something that I will be curious about, why it's so hard for men in that regard.'
Cho is married to a man and has talked about being bisexual and having an open marriage in her stand-up routines and on talk shows.
'I've always been really comfortable talking about bisexuality because people are curious about it,' she says.
'People think there's gay or straight, they can't think that there's differences and in between there, there's different shades of gray,' she adds. 'For me, that's just the truth of my existence and the needle just shifts as I grow older.'

Daddy’s a dumb dumb.
That’s what Rasheeda told her son, the boy she and Kirk created.
And she has good reason.
Kirk, our least favorite Peanut M&M, is relieved that the baby is his, having already done a DNA test behind Rasheeda’s back So he thinks the best thing to do for his wife is find a nanny for the baby so she can get to work. (Why bother Rasheeda’s annoying mom to handle those duties?)
Instead of talking with Rasheeda about finding a nanny, he decides to do so on his own. And rather than go through an agency or even Craigslist, he finds a much better way. He’s hanging out at a sports bar with Benzino and enjoys the company of Jasmine, a pretty young lady who serves drinks there. Clearly, she is eminently qualified to be a nanny.
So he offers Jasmine a job. She is suitably skeptical, noting he is not wearing a ring. He has an easy explanation: he and Rasheeda are separated and just living n the same house out of convenience to “coparent” the child.
He invites Jasmine to come over and meet their child – again, without informing Rasheeda. To idiotic Kirk, this is a gift for Rasheeda. He figures she is going to be deeply grateful of Kirk’s nanny choice. Right. Right?
