A ‘White Queen,’ an alumna from ‘Homeland’ and ‘About a Boy’s leading lady are all heading to Lifetime for a bible-themed miniseries.
Rebecca Ferguson, Minnie Driver and Morena Baccarin will star in the small screen two-night adaptation of Anita Diamant’s 1997 best-selling novel, ‘The Red Tent.’ The project also stars Iain Glen and Will Tudor, both from HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones,’ in addition to Debra Winger (‘Terms of Endearment’).
The four-hour mini, which begins filming this month in Morocco, follows Dina (Ferguson), the daughter of Leah and Jacob. Even though only mentioned briefly in the Old Testament, this series will focus on Dinah’s happy childhood spent inside the red tent, a place where only women of her tribe are allowed to gather and share the traditions and turmoil of ancient womanhood.
It will be told through Dina’s eyes, where we’ll also see the story of her mothers Leah (Driver), Rachel (Baccarin), Zilpah and Bilhah, Jacob’s (Glen) four wives. We’ll also see Jacob’s relationship with each of his wives.
Eventually, Dina weds a prince, resulting in a fall out with her murderous brother Joseph (Tudor). As for Winger, she’ll play Jacob’s mother.
“‘The Red Tent’ brings premium and popular elements to a unique and timeless story,” said Lifetime EVP Rob Sharenow. “It perfectly articulates our vision for Lifetime as the destination for epic movie events.”
‘Law & Order’s Roger Young will direct the miniseries, with Elizabeth Chandler (‘The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) and Anne Meredith (‘Secrets of Eden’) penning the script.
