'X-Files' creator Chris Carter returns to TV with 'Area 51'

Gillian Anderson is in full effect on network TV and Chris Carter is dreaming up something paranormal. Is it 1995?

Today AMC announced that Carter, creator of "The X-Files," will return to TV on the cable network with a concept not unfamiliar to him.

The new series is tentatively called "Area 51." Carter will both write and serve as executive producer. Based on the 2011 book "Area 51: An Uncensored History of America's Top Secret Military Base," by Annie Jacobsen, the series will also have an executive producer in Gale Anne Hurd, who is already executive producer of "The Walking Dead."

Recently Carter developed another sci-fi entry, "The After," an Amazon original series pilot that premiered in February and is now also greenlit for full development.

"X-Files" stars Anderson and David Duchovny, who played FBI special agents Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, starred in movies based on the show. Each have gone on to other TV projects, Anderson the new NBC drama "Crisis" and Duchovny the now-canceled Showtime series "Californication."

Oop! Bcoop isn't going to be Indiana Jones

Excited at the prospect of Bradley Cooper donning Indiana Jones’s fedora?

Well you shouldn’t be – because it might not be true after all. According to reports earlier this week the American Hustle star had been near the top of potential candidates to take over from Harrison Ford in a planned reboot of the franchise.

However Indy producer Frank Marshall has now all but denied the rumours on Twitter. After the initial reports surfaced he grumbled: ‘Due to the ridiculous rumours that keep popping up, like agents’ pipe dreams, I will stop commenting on our projects until I have real news.’

20+ new Images from TRANSCENDENCE

Warner Bros. has released a batch of high-resolution images from Wally Pfister’s upcoming directorial debut Transcendence. The film revolves around a group of scientists trying to build the first self-aware supercomputer, and when lead researcher Dr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp) becomes the target of anti-technology extremists, he unexpectedly becomes a participant in his own transcendence. Pfister has done excellent work as a cinematographer in recent years with films like The Dark Knight, Inception, and Moneyball, but I’m eager to see how he fares in the director’s chair. The marketing materials have promised that Transcendence is a smart, sci-fi-tinged thriller, and so far this looks to be a strong debut feature from Pfister.

Transcendence opens in traditional theaters and IMAX on April 18th.

Honey Boo Boo's Sister Engaged Redneck Style

A marriage proposal delivered on a hot pizza sealed the deal on Thursday's episode of Here Comes Honey Boo. The 'redneck proposal' was for the young reality star's big sister Anna Shannon and featured the 'pop the question pizza' and a troupe of dancing hillbillies.

The romantic moment came after Michael, Anna's boyfriend of one year, secretly asked her parents for her hand in marriage. 'What?' gawped an incredulous Sugar Bear, aka family patriarch Mike Thompson. 'Her and Kaitlyn… I love them with all my heart, I wouldn't trade them for nothing,' said Michael, referring to Anna and her one-year-old daughter who has 3 thumbs.

Family matriarch Mama June, real name June Shannon, and Sugar Bear both gave their blessing – leaving Michael free to plan the 'very special proposal' on New Year's Eve. The venue was the Tallapoosa Possum Drop where they ring in the New Year 'Georgia style' by lowering a possum encased in a ball made of fairy lights.

The Colbert Report took on the Redskins' Original Americans Foundation

Stephen Colbert took on the new Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation Wednesday night. It went about how you’d expect. Among his laugh lines:

* “Folks, the PC Police continue to hammer the Washington Redskins over their so-called ‘offensive’ name. Though, if you’ve seen them play recently, their name is the least offensive thing on the field.”

* “That’s right, the ‘Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation.’ Because Redskins is not offensive if you only use it once in your name.”

Veep is the Most Accurate of D.C. TV Shows; No Politician Cameos Anytime Soon

Scary as it may sound, the very not-politics-at-its-finest “Veep” paints an honest picture of life in D.C. “Veep’s” creative talent, speaking at Paleyfest Thursday night, have been startled by how close they are getting it right from the feedback they’ve gotten from Capitol Hill staffers.

“It’s been gratifying to hear people who are watching it say it’s accurate – frightening – but gratifying,” said Armando Iannucci, the show’s executive producer, director and writer. “I’ve been told by Obama’s press office that they’ve just come out of a meeting and there were two Jonahs and three Dans there.” (Played by Timothy Simons and Reid Scott, respectively)

Cameron Diaz On Conscious Ungooping: Gwyneth & Chris Are Very Brave

Gwyneth Paltrow's BFF Cameron Diaz is opening up about her split from Chris Martin. Just two days after Paltrow and Martin announced they had separated, Diaz says the former couple made the right decision and are doing just fine.

"For both Chris and Gwyneth, I mean they worked really hard," Diaz told E! News exclusively today at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. "People want them to blow up and it to be ugly, but they're kind, generous, loving people who really care about one another. Just because they don't want to be a couple together, doesn't mean that they have to hate one another. They are really good friends."

Diaz continued, "They've made a conscious effort to separate the part of their lives they don't want to live together anymore, and maintain a really beautiful, strong bond as parents and as friends...I think people should really honor that and they should admire it and they should respect it. They've done something really extraordinary, and they've been very brave at presenting that to the public."

Diaz added of her pal, "She's doing great. They're doing great."

Surviving Jack: After L&O:SVU, Christopher Meloni is going for laughs

Christopher Meloni's new series isn't so much about the law, but there's no question he's still trying to maintain order. Three years after ending his long "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" run as Detective Elliot Stabler, the actor goes for laughs in the FOX sitcom "Surviving Jack," premiering Thursday, March 27.

Bill Lawrence ("Cougar Town") is among the executive producers of the 1990s-set show, based on Justin Halpern's autobiographical book "I Suck at Girls." Meloni basically plays Halpern's father, a no-nonsense doctor who becomes a Mr. Mom to his teen children when his wife (Rachael Harris) starts law school.

"I was kind of leaning toward this arena," Meloni tells Zap2it of tackling a more humorous project than he usually has lately, "and it's been borne out in that I feel lighter in my day."

Jeopardy contestant thought Magic Johnson played in the NHL

"Jeopardy!" can be a very hard game show.

Which can also lead to many funny/awkward moments.

One of those moments happened recently and it had to do with sports.

Here's the clue: 100+ assists in an NHL season has been accomplished only 13 times, 11 times by this player.

And here was the contestant's answer: Magic Johnson.

That wasn't the right answer. After doing some research we learned that Magic Johnson never played in the NHL. He was a basketball star.

Alex Trebek, who is from Canada, wasn't impressed with the answer:

Efron's friends worried & he may not have ever gone through real rehab

Zac Efron's friends are "worried sick" about the actor ... and none of them believe Zac drove to downtown L.A. in the middle of the night to get sushi -- they say there's no doubt he's fallen off the wagon again.

TMZ broke the story ... Zac ended up in an area of downtown L.A. that turns dangerous late at night, with transients and drug dealers out in force. Zac told cops his car ran out of gas, his "bodyguard" got attacked and when he went to help he got socked in the face.

Cops are skeptical, and it's echoed by Zac's friends. As one friend put it, "Zac's a loner. He goes out rarely and the idea of him driving for miles to go to some sushi restaurant in downtown L.A. after midnight is preposterous."

Several of Zac's friends tell us the so-called bodyguard is not a bodyguard at all. We've confirmed he's a convicted drug dealer who has been spending a lot of time with Zac recently ... despite warnings from friends.

There were a number of reports Zac went to rehab twice last year to kick his cocaine habit. But sources now tell us ... Zac NEVER went to rehab. Both times he went to a friend's house outside California and received private therapy --- but that's it.

Zac has lost friends in the last few months because they became frustrated that he was slipping off the rails again.

By the way ... on Thursday we reported what the "bodyguard" told us ... that he was viciously stabbed in the face, chest and stomach by transients. Law enforcement sources tell us ... when they arrived at the scene the only one bleeding was Zac. The "bodyguard" was just sitting there texting away.

Selena: Subpoenaed for Justin's Bedroom Secrets

Selena Gomez is being dragged into Justin Bieber's legal messes -- she was just subpoenaed to testify in one of Bieber's photog-beating lawsuits ... but the upside, Selena's legs LOOKED FANTASTIC.

Sources connected to the case tell TMZ ... the summons is for a deposition in a lawsuit filed by an L.A. pap who claims Bieber karate kicked him in the stomach back in 2012.

The pap says Selena was right there, so they want her under oath, giving a blow-by-blow.  But we're told even more important is her pillow talk with Justin -- revealing his bitter feelings and short trigger when it comes to paparazzi.

Selena is becoming a popular witnesses.  The photog in the Miami beating case also wants to question her under oath.  She wasn't there for the alleged attack, so it's all about pillow talk.

But again ... what it really comes down to is ... she has great legs.

RuPaul's Drag Race: Last Words With Gia Gunn

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

For fans of RuPaul's Drag Race, one of the highlights of each season is the "Snatch Game," a spoof of the vintage panel game show Match Game in which contestants put their best celebrity impersonation skills to work. And the cast of season 6 did not disappoint. From Bianca del Rio as a gavel-wielding Judge Judy to Darienne Lake as Paula Deen to Joslyn Fox as the Real Housewives of New Jersey's Teresa Guidice the queens served up one of the most memorables "Snatch"-es yet, particularly due to the spot-on geriatric drag of Ben DeLaCreme performing Maggie Smith's character on Downton Abbey.
But two of the younger contestants, Gia Gunn and Laganja Estranja (who portrayed Kim Kardashian and Rachel Zoe, respectively), failed to impress the judges with their impersonations. As a result, the friends were forced to square off in a fierce dance-off lip sync that ultimately left Gunn to sashay away. But not before Gunn gave a few parting shots.
The Advocate spoke with Gia Gunn about the recent Vogue cover of "Snatch Game" muse Kim Kardashian, whether or not Gunn was left feeling sour about fellow contestant Milk's male runway look, and the importance of lip gloss and duct tape.

How did you prepare for RuPaul’s Drag Race?
I prepared myself mentally first, and made the commitment to myself that I was going to do everything within my power to do the best possible. I then reached out to all my designers, costume designers and friends to gather all the looks necessary to give a sickening runway impression. I then also went around all of Chicago gathering supplies, renting costume pieces, and borrowing everything possible to be just as prepared as possible. ... I then packed everything, including my sink, and was on my way to the Race!

First look at 'If I Stay'

An MGM/Warner Bros./New Line production directed by R.J. Cutler, If I Stay finds Mia, a 17-year-old cellist, in a coma following a devastating car accident that’s killed the rest of her family. Forman’s novel takes the unconscious Mia on a journey through her memories and experiences as she tries to decide whether to wake up — or to die. “I got very close to Mia and who she was. I was really in her head so there wasn’t really a question I couldn’t answer,” says Moretz.

Fans of the book know that Mia’s boyfriend Adam plays an integral role in the story: He’s one of Mia’s reasons to stay. Cutler cast relative unknown Jamie Blackley in the role, and Moretz assures us that he’s just fantastic. ”He’s the perfect Adam. We took a really long time casting him,” she says. “When Jamie walked into the room I looked at R.J., and R.J. looked at me, and we did the audition and he left. And I went, ‘That’s Adam. That’s who he is.’ There was not a question. Not even a worry. That’s Adam. And I was like, ‘If you don’t hire him, that is so dumb.’”

Forman’s novel might occupy a certain part of the bookstore, but Moretz doesn’t love the “young adult” designation. She thinks it diminishes the book’s value. “What’s interesting about Gayle’s novel is that it’s not really that YA. It deals with issues that are much bigger…it’s much darker than I think most YA is,” says Moretz. “I want people to walk in and feel like they actually felt something, and learned something, and realized something different about life that’s more than just, ‘Oh, I saw this love triangle and it’s super sad because she chose the guy I didn’t like. And then the movie was over.’ And you’re like, ‘Okay, that’s pathetic.’ You want to watch something that actually means something and makes you feel and makes you want to be involved. That’s what I wanted to make and that’s what I strive to make.”

If I Stay hits theaters Aug. 22.

Only read 'Where She Went' and loved it.

JT Roundup! "Not a Bad Thing" MV, beach pics, & sneaking into clubs with NSYNC

Today in Things That Will Make You Feel All Warm and Fuzzy Inside, Justin Timberlake premiered his new video for "Not a Bad Thing" on Ellen, which doubles as a documentary about the search for a couple who got engaged on the Long Island Railroad to the tune of the same track.

As the documentarians scour New York City for their mystery couple – goofy text message pop-ups included – the video includes a bunch of heartwarming interviews with couples about their own proposals, as well as the struggles and rewards of finding love, or letting love find you. While it looks like the filmmakers may have found the lovebirds, the clip ends with a "To be continued…" message. Following the clip, Ellen DeGeneres asked viewers to get in touch with the show if they know the couple so Timberlake can finally meet them. So for now, it seems, the search for true love continues.

Charitable Kardashian Post

Kim Kardashian has been widely criticised in the past for only donating 10 per cent of profits from her semi-regular eBay clothing auctions to charity.
And now, new figures have come to light detailing just how much that amounts to.
According to Paypal Charitable Giving Fund tax documents obtained by RadarOnline, the star's November auction, benefitting Life Change Community Church in Agoura Hills, California - co-founded by mom Kris Jenner and her long-time friend Pastor Brad Johnson - reaped just $19,975.
Last December, the 33-year-old hit out at those questioning her charitable donations, breaking down the numbers in justification.
'When the eBay numbers get broken down, the auction management agency that posts for me gets a percentage for all their hard work, then, eBay listing fees, end of auction fees, eBay Store fees, Paypal fees, etc, all add up to about half the sale. Then I give 10% to charity,' she wrote on her website, under the headline: 'Giving comes from the heart.'
According to those calculations, the auction of unwanted designer garments from the star's wardrobe totalled $399,500, with Kim pocketing a tidy $199,750 at the end of the day, while the Church's cut was less than $20,000.
While no-one can deny that's still a hefty sum, it's not like the mom-of-one - who is estimated to be worth around $40 million - needs the cash.

Ready for a Winnie the Pooh Origin Story?

In case you were wondering, no, Disney has not decided to go the route of so many superheroes and set the clock at Hundred Acre Wood back to explore where Winnie The Pooh got his honey obsession or whether Tigger was created by a pharmaceutical trial gone wrong. Brett Ratner’s RatPac Entertainment is instead exploring the genesis of the character itself.

The company has nabbed the film rights to Lindsay Mattick and Sophie Blackall’s book Finding Winnie, which is scheduled to arrive on bookshelves later next year. Mattick’s tome traces how her great-grandfather, Harry Colebourn, bought an orphaned bear cub in Ontario as he was about to be posted to Europe during World War I.

Nicknaming the animal Winnie because Colebourn came from Winnipeg, he took the cub to England, where she served as the mascot for his regiment. When Colebourn was sent to France, he left her at London Zoo and then donated her there so she could be properly cared for as she grew. It’s there that Winnie The Pooh creator A. A. Milne encountered her, thanks to his son’s constant visits to the zoo. The rest is literary and film/toy/merchandising history. If the story sounds familiar, it might be because you’re either a big Winnie fan or you saw the 2004 TV movie, which featured Michael Fassbender as Colebourn.

It’s early days for this one, and Ratner and his producing partners are looking for filmmakers to develop it. Perhaps they’ll aim for a Saving Mr. Banks-style story…

Jimmy Kimmel covers Esquire: I only have one complaint about Jimmy Fallon

Jimmy Kimmel doesn't have beef with fellow talk show host Jimmy Fallon, except for one thing.

"My only complaint about Jimmy Fallon is the first name: Jimmy," Kimmel told the April issue of Esquire, which hits newsstands March 25. "People get us mixed up all the time. No one remembers which Jimmy is which."

"Actually, he says the same thing happens to him," Kimmel, 46, continued. "He's like an athlete out there. He can jump high, act, sing. He's a true performer. I'm a broadcaster. That's how I come at this. Not a stand-up, not an actor, not a commentator. A broadcaster."

Still, Kimmel can't imagine any other profession.

"This is the job," Kimmel said. "The only job for a person like me. I mean, I like to draw, I'm really good at it. I'm a good artist, and I think that's what I would have done had radio not worked out for me. But here I am. You won't see me doing anything else in the next 25 years."

Kimmel also opened up about one of his favorite subjects: Toronto mayor Rob Ford.

"The truth is, right now, Rob Ford is keeping me in business," Kimmel said. "There's new video every day. The mayor of Toronto throwing candy canes at small children. The mayor wandering into a dance club. I don't even have to write it. I sit back and watch him. He's pranking the world."

Renner and his fine ass talk about Chris Evans, The Avengers & Hawkeye's big role in the sequel

Do you have any funny Chris Evans stories?
Jeremy Renner:
Oh dude, I have the funniest one. I don’t know if I can say. When I think about it every time, I love it. The coda scene that happens at the end of “The Avengers,” we shot it at the premiere, when we were all together. A year had gone by, and Chris was in the middle of doing another movie, where he had a full beard and he couldn’t shave it off.

What happened?
They had to do all these prosthetics over his face. The poor guy, he was in a chair for like four hours just for this three-second scene. He looked awful. He looked like his face was melting. Imagine if you have to put prosthetics over a thick beard, he looked like he got stung by a bee. The names that [Robert] Downey Jr. and everybody came up with. He couldn’t even laugh. It was really quite frustrating, I’m sure.

You don’t see the prosthetics onscreen?
No, it’s a wide shot of the whole group at the Shawarma place. We left the premiere, jumped in costume and Chris had to go into makeup for so long to cover that dang beard.

A working mom’s open letter to Gwyneth

The Kale juice Queen Gwyneth Paltrow said office job is easier for parents than shooting movies

Dear Gwyneth,

I really enjoyed your recent comments to E! about how easy an office job is for parents, compared to the grueling circumstances of being on a movie set. “I think it’s different when you have an office job, because it’s routine and, you know, you can do all the stuff in the morning and then you come home in the evening,” you said. “When you’re shooting a movie, they’re like, ‘We need you to go to Wisconsin for two weeks,’ and then you work 14 hours a day, and that part of it is very difficult. I think to have a regular job and be a mom is not as, of course there are challenges, but it’s not like being on set.”

As a mother of a toddler, I couldn’t agree more!

“Thank God I don’t make millions filming one movie per year” is what I say to myself pretty much every morning as I wait on a windy Metro-North platform, about to begin my 45-minute commute into the city. Whenever things get rough, all I have to do is keep reminding myself of that fact. It is my man

And I know all my fellow working-mom friends feel the same. Am I right, ladies?

Taylor Swift attends concert with Douglas Booth and Lena Dunham

Taylor Swift spent Thursday night at Brooklyn's Music Hall of Williamsburg watching a performance by Bleachers, the new side project of Jack Antonoff (Fun.)

Swift watched from the balcony with friends including Douglas Booth and Lena Dunham (Antonoff's girlfriend). Dunham recently described Swift as "a good friend of mine. I call and text her all the time. She helps me be strong and make better decisions. She has amazing creative instincts."

Swift and Booth, who left the show together, were romantically linked in late 2013 but have insisted they are just friends.

Antonoff and Swift collaborated on the song 'Sweeter Than Fiction.' Antonoff later asked Swift and Hayley Williams to give him feedback on Bleachers' music.

"I sent Taylor and Hayley the song a couple weeks ago, and was like 'What do you think of the mix?'" Antonoff said. "I want to hear it through other people's ears. Something as broad as song structure or picking a single, or as small as 'Does this master have too much low end?' I want honest opinions from my friends and people I respect."

The Double act: Richard Ayoade and Jesse Eisenberg team up for Dostoevsky adaptation

It seems appropriate for a film about doubles to interview its maker and lead actor simultaneously, with an emphasis on matters of personal duality. Certain obstacles present themselves from the outset, however. First, there's the unavoidable fact that neither the director of The Double, Richard Ayoade ♥, nor the film's star, Jesse Eisenberg, is particularly comfortable talking about themselves. Or each other. Or, in fact, just talking, full stop. Secondly, there's the diplomatic imperative to pay equal attention to both interviewees. If I talk too much to one of them, the other could feel left out, I suggest.

Richard Ayoade (politely): "I won't feel left out."

Jesse Eisenberg (looking at his phone): "I'd prefer it if you left me out."

As double acts go, they've certainly got their distinctions sorted out. The 35-year-old Ayoade cuts a distinctive figure: tall, idiosyncratically tailored, free-range Afro and thick-rimmed spectacles. Eisenberg, five years his junior, is streetwear-anonymous and keeps his head down – usually inclined towards his phone. Ayoade speaks in articulate, received pronunciation; Eisenberg mumbles and stumbles in an accent that will be identifiable as New York when he eventually gets a complete sentence out. Perfect – we're here to talk about him playing two versions of himself in one film, and he's only half-present.

RUMOR: Netflix wants Michael C. Hall to be Daredevil?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

As Drew Goddard's DAREDEVIL series gets closer to production, we still have not yet learned who will be playing the Man Without Fear. Netflix and Marvel, to keep production budget down, could cast an unknown in the lead role, but that may also prohibit the eventual crossover potential for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With that in mind, this rumor sounds pretty spot on. But keep in mind the word rumor as there is very little to substantiate this. Still, it is an intriguing prospect worth discussion.

The Comic Book Cast podcast explained their thoughts on the rumor that Drew Goddard and Netflix are eyeing DEXTER star Michael C. Hall for the role of Matt Murdoch on the series. The rumor first surfaced on the Marvel Cinematic Universe Facebook page from a source claiming to be close to the production.

While this is far from being confirmed, it is an interesting choice. Hall built a fanbase from his runs on SIX FEET UNDER and DEXTER and is fully capable of playing both dark and intense. At 43, Hall may be a bit old to headline a superhero series, but I wouldn't be opposed to dropping right into the middle of a DAREDEVIL in his prime rather than doing another origin story.

Whether this pans out or not, it is definitely an intriguing choice that I wouldn't rule out. DAREDEVIL is likely to premiere later this year on Netflix.

Cara Delevingne and Michelle Rodriguez kiss on the beach in Mexico

OK, you've got us – we're convinced!

When rumours of their relationship first surfaced, we thought it may have been a sensational showmance.

But these recent tender snaps have left us certain that Cara Delevingne and Michelle Rodriguez are very much in love. Sigh.

Cara stared at her actress girlfriend the way we only stare at pizza after a drunken night out.

If Sterling Cooper and Partners were actually in business, this would make one hell of an ad pitch to Apple.

James Franco Denies Sleeping With Lindsay Lohan Less Than A Year After He Bragged About F**king Her

The honeymoon is over. For quite awhile there, I was hanging out in the Admiration stage of the Lifecycle of Emotional Reactions to James Franco, thanks to his hilarious, balls-to-the-wall performance in “Spring Breakers.” Then I went to Francofest in New York City and saw James’ “documentary” “Francophrenia,” which was beyond abysmal and pretentious; yet he, in the Q&A afterward, really tried to act like it was some sort of high art and I found myself thrust into the Annoyance Phase. But I wasn’t there long. I am now firmly camped out in the Abhorrence Phase for the foreseeable future, because I am revolted by Franco’s recent comments denying that he slept with Lindsay Lohan.

He's normally more dapper when he arrives on the red carpet.

However, on Tuesday night, Liam Payne went for a more laidback, scruffier look than normal as he brought his girlfriend Sophia Smith to a book launch in London.

The singer and his 20-year-old girlfriend were seen together at the launch of One Direction hairstylist Lou Teasdale’s DIY beauty book, The Craft.
