Did Lady Gaga glamourise bulimia in her SXSW set?

"Lady Gaga has struggled with eating disorders in the past, so it's indefensible that she's glamourising bulimia in her SXSW set"
There is nothing about showing an attractive woman vomiting that is 'art'

Thanks to Lady Gaga, bulimia has a glamorous new poster girl, showing a fresh generation of teenagers that eating disorders are cool.

Two minutes into Gaga's performance of the song Swine at SXSW in Texas, vomit artist Millie Brown trots on stage, slurps up some green liquid, then repeatedly stuffs her manicured fingers into her mouth and vomits all over Gaga’s cleavage. Later Brown crawls on top of her and vomits black goo onto her again. Then they both writhe around in it.

It’s provocative, grotesque and utterly indefensible. Hundreds of vulnerable people die from eating disorders every year, many of them from conditions they developed while they were teenagers. Around the same age as many of Gaga’s fans, in fact.

We can report that there’s a recent Oscar winner who has been reading for a part for over the past month and she’s extremely close to signing onto the movie: 12 Years A Slave‘s Lupita Nyong’o.

The part Nyong’o has been reading for a is a major female role and doesn’t seem to be tied into the family lines from Episodes 4-6.

Calls were made to Lupita’s reps and they responded, “We’re not allowed to talk about that.”

From what I heard, Lupita might be going up for a a sith!

Kat Dennings Slams Rumors That Lindsay Lohan Was “Train Wreck” On Two Broke Girls as “Bullsh*t”

Kat Dennings is slamming rumors that Lindsay Lohan was a “train wreck” during her guest spot on “Two Broke Girls.”

The editor of the blog Crazy Days and Nights had supposedly scored a seat to the show’s live taping, and wrote a damning piece about Lohan’s alleged performance on the show.

The writer claims that Lohan’s “lips were so plumped out” that she could barely speak and says the actress “kept screwing up” her lines.

“There is not a member of the audience who couldn’t do a better job than Lindsay Lohan last night,” notes the editor.

But Dennings says that none of this is true.

The star of the CBS comedy took to Twitter on Friday to blast the report, saying, “This article is complete bullsh*t. Lindsay was prepared, sweet to everyone, & professional. Not nice to spread lies.”

Lohan’s episode of “Two Broke Girls” airs on April 14.

Another FOX Rumour: Halle Berry All But Cut From X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST?

Disappointment, it is something that we've all experienced at some time from 20th Century Fox with their handling of the X-Men franchise. We have grown accustomed to getting our hopes up and then having them dashed. Earlier this year we felt that displeasure when it was revealed that True Blood actress Anna Paquin, who has played Rogue in several installments, was completely cut from X-Men: Days of Future Past. Yes, there is still a bit of hope for Paquin, as she might've been involved in additional reshoots, but that's not for certain. And today, New York Daily News reports that Halle Berry's ("Catwoman") screen time has been reduced to merely one scene in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

BBC denies censoring debate in Free Speech programme

The makers of BBC3's Free Speech have denied censoring a debate about being gay and Muslim, saying the topic was pulled because of security concerns after threats were received by the mosque where the programme was filmed.

The live show on Wednesday night prompted accusations of censorship after it postponed discussion of a question put by Muslim drag queen Asifa Lahore, who asked: "One question I would like to ask the Muslim community is, when will it be right to be Muslim and gay?"

Presenter Rick Edwards told viewers and the studio audience that the question would not be tackled until a later edition of the programme because Birmingham Central Mosque, where the programme was filmed, had "expressed deep concerns with having this discussion here".

The chairman of the Birmingham mosque told Radio 4's Today programme on Friday that he had not been told the programme would discuss homosexuality until 20 minutes before it was broadcast.

‘Something Wicked This Way Comes’ Remake in Motion at Disney

Whenever I stop to think about it, I’m always fairly amazed that the original Something Wicked This Way Comes doesn’t have a more enthusiastic pop-culture following. The Disney film, released in 1983, has a few big problems, sure. Yet it boasts a chilling autumnal atmosphere and an early performance from Jonathan Pryce. Furthermore, its story of a father/son pair, a dark carnival magician, and hidden desires given wing in a small town features several harrowing scenes that have always stayed with me since that first viewing in ’83.

Neither Disney nor the pop-culture machine have done much with the original, but the studio is handing the Ray Bradbury novel to Seth Grahame-Smith to adapt anew. He’ll draw up an outline for a Something Wicked This Way Comes remake before handing it off to a writer.

Deadline reports that the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies writer is drawing up an outline for the new version; he’s a great fan of the original novel, and says he’ll rely more upon that than the 1983 film.

Jon Stewart likes to have fun at Sen. Mitch McConnell's expense. A lot.

With an impersonation set somewhere between Foghorn Leghorn and Forrest Gump, The Daily Show host calls the Republican senator to task – often, of late.

But Thursday night's episode offered a new wrinkle: a crowdsourced video mashup challenge. McConnell's camp released an odd, 2- minute video with no words, numerous quick scenes of the senator at work and in daily life, set to a plinky, technoesque soundtrack. Stewart says TDS staff and he spent a large portion of the day experimenting with news songs for the video, "anything with eyes works."

He challeneged viewers to come up with their own versions in the next week, while the show is on spring break hiatus, and post them with the #mcconnelling hashtag. There are already a few samples:

A West Coast Radio Station has been playing "Hot in Herre" on loop for 16+ Hours

Here are the facts, as we know them: Since perhaps 3 PM yesterday, San Francisco radio station KVVF 105.7 has been playing Nelly's "Hot in Herre" on a loop. I've been listening to it for the last half hour and it's a pretty beautiful thing: "Hot in Herre" plays, followed by a second in which you think "Hot in Herre" might be done playing, followed by another "Hot in Herre". Sometimes, there is a block of ads for a minute or three. Then, "Hot in Herre" comes back.

So what's up with this? Is it an act of protest? Did the station get bought out, making this their final, endless dispatch? Is it just a severely good publicity stunt, since now East Coast herbs like me are tuning into a radio station they'd otherwise never listen to? Is time a flat circle, expanding outward to contain more and more plays of "Hot in Herre"? Is Nelly the Yellow King? I don't know, but this is so much better than SXSW.

Listen to the stream right here for as long as you can. Or, just watch the video below once or twice to get your fix. Happy Saturday! Follow allong on Twitter by searching #Nelly1057, because why wouldn't you?

(UPDATE -- From reader Matthew Keys comes an explanation: "They're stunting. Radio trade publications say they're getting ready to flip formats away from Latino-themed music to an English contemporary rhythmic format branded as 'Hot.' Hence, 'Hot in Herre.'" Here's some extra background.)

GRRM has a detailed plan for keeping the show from catching up to his books! (lol doubt it)

George R.R. Martin is perfectly aware that the Game of Thrones TV series may be moving faster than he can write the new books. It’s alarming.”
But fans of Westeros and its complicated narratives shouldn’t panic just yet. Martin has a surprisingly detailed plan for how the show can slow down and give him enough time to catch up:

Jane Goodall: "Michael Jackson’s Chimp Was Beaten"

World-famous great apes expert Jane Goodall told TMZ that the pet chimp was beaten and mistreated at Jackson’s ranch, and she blamed the late King of Pop for the abuse.

“When he was with Michael Jackson he was being beaten,” she said.

Goodall said she even confronted Jackson about Bubbles’ treatment, and it “ticked him off”.

“Chimpanzees belong in the forest and (making a pet out of) chimpanzees are one of the worst things you can possibly do,” Goodall said. “By the time you get to seven or eight they're dangerous.”

Bubbles is now living in Florida’s Centre for Great Apes animal sanctuary. He was removed from Jackson’s home after the singer’s first son Prince was born. Jackson famously adopted Bubbles in the 80s, and the chimp starred in music videos, toured with the singer and even reportedly slept in a crib in Jackson’s bedroom.

Goodall is not the first to allege the pet chimp was used as a punching bag.

LaToya Jackson’s ex-husband Jack Gordon claimed in the past that Jackson abused Bubbles, reports TMZ. “I saw Michael punch Bubbles, kick him in the stomach. Michael used to say ‘He doesn’t feel it. He’s a chimpanzee. I have to discipline him,” Gordon said.

Shakira interview Feeling sexy is empowering Features Music The Independent

The last time I met Shakira, she stood up a big-city mayor, a one-time First Lady, a First Daughter and a former President.

It was 2010, and we were in New York. The singer was booked to speak at the Clinton Global Initiative’s Annual Meeting, at a plenary session entitled Harnessing Human Potential. But she was a no-show.

To be fair, the Colombian had other things on her plate. She was also in town to perform on The David Letterman Show, alongside the actor James Franco. She’d been rehearsing 30 days straight for her just-started tour. And she was playing a sell-out concert at Madison Square Garden. But she’d found the time to write her speech: through the night. She finished at 8.30am. Alas, the effort proved too much. Shak got the shakes, felt sick and had to pull out of the seminar.

No matter. She did manage to fit in another Presidential summit. In what seemed like a New York minute she and Juan Manuel Santos, leader of Columbia, met up before announcing a $25m fund to provide early childhood education in their South American homeland.

Four years on, it seems as though Shakira’s hands-on influence over the levers of power is as strong as ever.

Study: Playing With Barbies Stunts Girls’ Career Dreams

Since her inception 55 years ago, Barbie's gotten a lot of flack for how her freakish proportions negatively affect girls' body image and even lead to at least one tragic case of a woman literally trying to transform herself into the doll. Last month, Barbie's lead designer defended the doll’s proportions in an interview with Co.Design. But new research suggests it's not just body image that Barbie impacts negatively--it's a girl's career aspirations, too.

A new study called "Boys Can Be Anything: Effect of Barbie Play on Girls' Career Cognitions" is, according to researchers Aurora Sherman of Oregon State University and Eileen Zurbriggen of the University of California, Santa Cruz, the first attempt to quantify how this freakishly proportioned doll influences girls’ ideas of their futures.

Thirty-seven girls aged four through seven were assigned to play for five minutes with one of three toys: a Doctor Barbie, a Fashion Barbie, or a Mrs. Potato Head doll, who has all the sex appeal of a, uh, potato. After playtime, the girls were shown 10 photographs of various professions and asked how many they thought they could do in the future, and how many they thought boys could do.

The girls who had played with homely Mrs. Potato Head reportedly believed they could go on to do just as many jobs as their male peers. But those who had played with Barbie, regardless of whether she was dressed as a doctor or a fashion model, saw themselves as having fewer career options than boys.

"Perhaps Barbie can 'Be Anything' as the advertising for this doll suggests, but girls who play with her may not apply these possibilities to themselves," Sherman says. "Something about the type of doll, not characteristics of the participants, causes the difference in career aspirations."

What about playing with Barbie makes girls doubt their future career possibilities? The researchers believe their study suggests that even young girls can recognize the sexualized nature of Barbie and her unrealistic body shape, and that these things can inform a girl's understanding of gender roles. But they admit they need to look more into why this occurs.

The sample size in this study was small, the length of playtime short, and the researchers only optioned 10 careers. But if researchers could build on this initial study and solidly prove that Barbie’s influence is a negative one, maybe Mattel would at least consent to giving the poor doll enough room for a liver.

Diet Coke "YOU'RE ON" Campaign Gets Attention for the Wrong, Drug-related Reasons

The newest ad campaign for Diet Coke is turning heads but for reasons the brand would probably like to avoid. Launched in February under the tagline "You're On," with a spot starring Taylor Swift, it's the outdoor ads that are raising eyebrows.

The positioning of the tagline above the logo appears to some to be a not-so-subtle reference to cocaine use. Get it? You're on coke. The more wholesome interpretation, as seen in the Swift ad, applies the phrase's showbiz meaning to everyday life. Of course a bunch of people getting their soda fix right before high-pressure or important moments doesn't exactly dispel the drug vibe.

While questionable whether the brand or its agency Droga5 intended the ads to wink-wink-nudge-nudge, it wouldn't be the first time an ad for a major brand had unintentional connotations. Hitler teapot, anyone?

The brand replied to our questions about the ads with a statement: "This advertising is one part of the new campaign for Diet Coke, which is called 'You’re On.' It celebrates ambitious young achievers from all walks of life and reminds them that Diet Coke is there to support them in the moments when they are at their best. Every single day, young people around the world experience 'You’re On' moments big and small. It could be a job interview or a national TV interview, a first date or a final exam, a presentation to your boss or a performance in front of thousands. The Diet Coke logo is the centerpiece of the ad campaign. Diet Coke in no way endorses or supports the use of any illegal substance."

They're probably wondering why no one is asking Miller High Life any questions.

TM2 - Season 5 Will Be The Last But To Be Split Into 2 Parts.

Teen Mom 2 is currently in the middle of its fifth season, and today, Radar Online ran an article stating that the show had been cancelled. According to an insider, “There is no season 6 of Teen Mom 2. Season 5 is the girls’ last season.” Of course, this story is a bit confusing, as the girls of ‘Teen Mom 2′ have been posting photos to their social media accounts that clearly show members of the show’s film crew in the background. Why, if the show is being cancelled after the existing episodes air, would there still be camera crews following Chelsea Houska, Kail Lowry, Jenelle Evans and Leah Calvert?

The Ashley can exclusively reveal what the hell is really going on with ‘Teen Mom 2.’ She reached out to a member of the show’s crew to get the low-down on whether or not the show will continue. “Season five will be the show’s last, that’s true,” the production source tells The Ashley, “However, you guys will be seeing a lot more of the girls, don’t worry.”

The source tells The Ashley that MTV is planning on doing a Season 5A and Season 5B (similar to how they split the second season of 16 and Pregnant back in 2010.) There are going to be 25 episodes total in Season 5, which is just ridiculous,” the source said. “It’s not because they want to end the show with high ratings for Season 5. The show always has high ratings. It all comes down to money, and adding another official season would mean re-contracting all of the show’s workers and the stars.

According to the production source, MTV’s money-saving tactic didn’t exactly sit well with some of the crew. “Most people that work on the show just want to get it done with and move on with their lives,” the source said. “This is not the easiest show to work on.”

The show’s producers are planning on doing a separate reunion for Season 5B. When that tapes, that will be the actual final episode for the series. Some of the things that will be featured on Season 5B include Kailyn meeting Jo's girlfriend Vee and Jenelle’s on-going legal issues with her soon-to-be-ex-husband, Courtland Rogers. The girls each posted photos recently that show a film crew capturing the Kodak moments of these events. Also to be included on Season 5B? Chelsea’s baby-daddy, Adam Lind‘s recent car crash and the resulting legal issues.

‘Arrow’ Meets Teen Titans: Nightwing and Deathstroke’s Son Jericho Rumors

Arrow is expanding deeper and deeper into the world of DC comics each and every week. Whether it is a reference to The Blue Beetle or a full appearance from The Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey, 'Arrow’s' roster has quite the range. Now that Ollie’s old island buddy Slade Wilson has shown his darker side as Deathstroke, his son Jericho might be coming to Starling City. Now The Green Arrow might need a little help from Nightwing. Could the Teen Titans be the next team to show up?

There was no new episode of Arrow on this week, but Stephen Amell made up for it by holding a Q and A with fans during the repeat episode. Amell addressed the rumors that Nightwing was going to be showing up on the series sometime in the near future, claiming:

“You gotta love the internet. should start tweeting Shonda Rhimes that I want to play Kerry Washington’s long lost brother on Scandal just to see how quickly the rumor will take hold.”

Amell was, of course, referring to Steven McQueen, tweeting about wanting to play Dick Grayson on the show. McQueen made no secret of his ambitions when he wrote the following tweets:

“Nightwing training @ARROWwriters @GBerlanti @KyleDHiggins @RapaportCasting.”
“Had some superhero conversations with the executives this weekend @ARROWwriters.”

Nightwing’s arch enemy is of course none other than Deathstroke himself.

During a recent Ask Ausiello Q and A column on TV Line, the subject of Slade Wilson’s son, Joe “Jericho” Wilson appearing on Arrow, to which the columnist answered:

“Though Joe has only been alluded to on occasion on the CW series, Manu Bennett mentions that relationship when discussing why Slade took Shado’s death so hard. ‘You have to remember, Slade Wilson has also got an ex-partnership and a son out in the world there somewhere. And the son’s potentially got siblings in some scenario that hasn’t yet evolved into the storyline,’ he says. ‘People have to think about more than the layers of what is being shown in each episode. They have to find clues in the DC Comics history, to maybe even piece together more of what Slade is festering upon.’

Hendricks, 38, joined other celebs including Jaime King and Ellen Pompeo at a design party in Los Angeles Thursday for online retailer One King's Lane, which launched its new vintage decor line Hunters Alley.

Film about Gloria Trevi to premiere in September

Mexico City, Mar 14 (EFE).- A film inspired by the eventful life of singer Gloria Trevi will premiere next Sept. 5 in more than 1,000 movie theaters around Mexico, the producers said.

While Trevi has expressed unhappiness over the "Gloria" project, producer Matthias Ehrenberg told a press conference that the screenplay is based on interviews she gave to journalist and playwright Sabina Berman and seeks above all to pay tribute to the singer.

"It's an impartial story with no yellow journalism in it. Basically it's about Gloria the celebrity, her rise to fame, what happened to her, things that go out of control and the consequences," Ehrenberg said.

Taking the story to the screen are Sofia Espinosa as Trevi and Marco Perez in the role of her manager Sergio Andrade.

The film includes several of Trevi's songs because the production company acquired the rights, and will be sung by Espinosa, Ehrenberg said.

"Gloria" will screen in theaters around Mexico starting Sept. 5, Mauricio Duran Ortega, vice president of marketing and distribution at Universal Pictures in Latin America, said.

Gloria Trevi was arrested in Brazil in the year 2000, accused by a Mexican court of the kidnapping, sexual abuse and corruption of minors, together with Andrade and one of her backup singers.

After a long legal battle in Brazil, the singer was extradited to her country in 2002 and pardoned by a Mexican court two years later, after which she returned to show business.

The movie will actually follow the reporter who helped put the crimes together and figure out what was going on. The killings started in the 1980s and went on into the 2000s. They did finally arrest someone but he has actually plead not guilty and has not had to go to trial yet.
Don't miss "The Grim Sleeper" on March 15 on Lifetime. After the movie, don't miss "Beyond the Headlines" which will show the true story behind the movie.

Hot bitch ♛ Cary Fukanaga ♛ talks True Detective and its intentional & accidental clues

If you think that we (and the rest of the internet) were gonna stop talking about “True Detective” just because the show is over then you're about as wrong as the people who thought it was Maggie's dad all along (seriously, how did that get traction?). While there's been plenty of talk around here about season 2 and the people who might work on it (here's five directors we'd like to see in the mix), with the anthology format meaning there'll be a whole new cast and a new director (or several), we're also not done thinking about the first season, and nor is director Cary Fukanaga, who talked with Vulture about people's reactions to the final episode and the season as a whole, notably pushing back against the legions of Chekhov's gunmen online who insist that every little thing had to tie into the final mystery.

Fukanaga points out that no one making the thing even noticed a number of the elements that have taken up such bandwith lately, like the fast-food crown and the spiral drawing in Marty's daughter's room, and stresses that the show was as much about atmosphere and character as it was about intricate conspiracy.

Street Fighter: The Movie: The 20-year Postmortem

Rob Beschizza at 1:17 am Wed, Mar 12, 2014

It's so easy to find things wrong with 1994's Street Fighter movie, I thought that Chris Plante's epic feature about the flick wouldn't have any surprises. But it's wonderfully well-written, and packed with all sorts of morbid detail. Moroever, I feel like I understand something important about the mad thinking behind that whole early wave of Hollywood game-films, right down to the overpolished "blue steel" aesthetic they had.

Lifetime has 3 more V.C. Andrews adaptations in the works, including My Sweet Audrina

Looking to capitalize on the success of its adaptation of the incest classic Flowers in the Attic, Lifetime is investing in the V.C. Andrews backlist. The cable channel has already announced that it’s moving forward with the sequel to the Andrews’ Gothic horror novel, Petals on the Wind, which is filming now.

But, according to a source at the network, Lifetime is developing two more books in the Dollanganger series, If There Be Thorns and Seeds of Yesterday. (That would leave Garden of Shadows, the series’ prequel, as the sole Dollanganger title remaining.) On top of that, Lifetime will also develop Andrews’ lurid, Oedipal novel, My Sweet Audrina. Because it’s early going, the timeline of when the movies will air is not yet clear.

Flowers in the Attic aired on Lifetime in January and, in addition to getting a lot of nostalgic attention, it drew a robust 6.1 million viewers — the channel’s biggest success since Oct. 2012. Heather Graham and Ellen Burstyn have already signed up to reprise their Flowers roles for Petals on the Wind, and the Dollanganger kids’ parts have been recast with older actors — Rose McIver will play the adult Cathy (Kiernan Shipka in Flowers), Bailey Buntain (of Bunheads) has been cast as Carrie (Ava Telek in Flowers), and Wyatt Nash will be Christopher (Mason Dye in Flowers). The casting for the third and fourth Dollanganger movies is not yet set.

If There Be Thorns is being adapted by Andy Cochran (Siberia), Seeds of Yesterday will be by Darren Stein (Jawbreaker, G.B.F.), and My Sweet Audrina will be by Scarlett Lacey.

Veronica Mars Movie Post Mortem: Jason Dohring on Logan's New Career, 'LoVe' and More

Veronica Mars‘ on- and off-again boyfriend Logan Echolls is…reformed?!

If you caught the big-screen continuation of the TV series this weekend, then you know that the former bad boy joined the Navy since last we last saw him (punching an enemy of Veronica’s, natch).

TVLine chatted with his portrayer, Jason Dohring, to get his reaction to the surprise twist, and to find out what prompted Logan to turn his life around.

The actor also talks about Veronica and Logan’s reunion and what the future holds for the once-again separated lovers while he’s serving abroad.

I didn't even like the movie that much and I'm still going through some VM withdrawals (after binge-rewatching the show before the movie)!

"Only Lovers Left Alive" U.S. Poster Released

The official poster for Jim Jarmusch's vampire tale Only Lovers Left Alive has been let out of the coffin, and we have every toothy pixel of it right here for you to chew on. Check it out!

Only Lovers Left Alive stars Tilda Swinton as Eve, a grungy but erudite vampire who's married to a forlorn vampire musician, Adam, played by Tom Hiddleston. Several-hundred-year-old Adam (of Biblical fame) has been living quite happily ever since being expelled from the Garden of Eden--that is, until the 21st century came along with its excesses and greed and pushed him into a full-flung existential crisis.

Adam and Eve are not about blood-sucking and murder but are refined lovers of literature, science, music, and learning in general.

It took Jarmusch seven years to find a backer, and he explains why: "I wanted to make a vampire love story... The reason it took so long was that no one wanted to give us the money. It's getting more and more and more difficult for films that are maybe a little unusual or not predictable or not satisfying the expectations of everybody — which is the beauty of cinema, discovering new films
of all forms."
