House of Cards Gets Huge S2 Viewership on Day 1

hoc
All 13 episodes of season two of House of Cards premiered on Netflix at midnight PST Friday. Less than 24 hours later, the first numbers are in, and they’re big, according to Variety.

Though Netflix does not disclose its viewership data and Nielsen does not track streaming services, Variety enlisted Procera Networks, a broadband technology firm, to get a sense of how many people were tuning in to House of Cards on Valentine’s Day. More Netflix subscribers are streaming the second season than the first, according to their data.

An astounding 15 percent of Netflix subscribers watched the first episode in a six to eight hour period on an undisclosed Internet service that Procera monitored on Monday. Last year, Procera — which measures usage of networks of six of the top 10 cable operators in the U.S. — found that just two percent of subscribers watched at least one episode of House of Cards throughout the entire premiere weekend.

Rosie Perez Spills Details on Feud with Jennifer Lopez

It’s the battle of the bonitas.

Rosie Perez and Jennifer Lopez have some serious bad blood — and don’t expect either to turn the other chica with the publication of Perez’s new memoir, “Handbook for an Unpredictable Life” (Crown), out Feb. 25.

The two Puerto Rican actresses met in New York in 1991 at an open casting call for the Fly Girl dancers for the sketch-comedy show “In Living Color,” where Perez, now 49, was choreographer.

Brooklynite Perez immediately noticed Bronx-born Jenny from the Block’s best asset, recalling her as a beautiful girl with a “big ass.”

But show host and creator Keenan Ivory Wayans wasn’t as taken by J.Lo, calling her “chubby and corny,” and refusing to hire her.

But Perez became the big-bootied newcomer’s booster, eventually swaying Wayans — but only if J.Lo cut her hair and dropped 20 pounds.

J.Lo’s inner diva quickly emerged. “All of the girls were coming into my office complaining how she was manipulating wardrobe, makeup, and me, all to her advantage,” Perez writes.

Kendall Jenner Sits Next to Anna Wintour at LFW

It looks like Kendall Jenner is having quite the Fashion Month. First she stole the show at Marc Jacobs, walking in a totally sheer top, and then went on to not only take over Love Magazine’s Instagram, but also starred in an Instagram photo shoot for Vogue, which featured her in looks from the fall 2014 New York collections.

And on Sunday, well, she got some face time with Anna Wintour herself, sitting next to the editor in the front row at Topshop Unique‘s fall 2014 presentation during London Fashion Week — and only a few seats down from Kate Moss (who, we have to speculate, might be wearing something from her forthcoming collection for the retailer) and fellow up-and-coming model/half-sister of a famous person, Lottie Moss.

Our first thoughts: One must never write “aspiring” before the word “model” from this point on when describing Jenner, who’s repped by Society Management — she’s clearly a bona fide fashion industry insider at this point. Also, half-sister Kim Kardashian and her beau Kanye West must be so freaking jealous, as it appears there’s been a whole campaign from their camp to land Kimmie a Vogue cover.

While it’s unlikely Jenner will beat her to it, she’s clearly garnering a lot of interest from the fashion bible, and quickly becoming the one in the family to watch.

Sponsors Are Composing Some Olympians' Tweets

Between photos and insights about their Olympic experience, some Olympians are turning over their social media accounts to sponsors, agreeing to quotas of postings on Twitter and Facebook and letting other people send commercial messages in their name.

The agents for US figure skaters Ashley Wagner and Gracie Gold both say sponsors draft some of their tweets, plugging their brands.

"This is the first Olympics where I actually have a social media calendar, where an athlete has to tweet or mention something on a given day," Gold's agent, Yuki Saegusa, said in an interview.

"We get a list of tweets or social media things that need to be posted and then we approve them for her," said Saegusa, senior vice president for Olympic clients at sports management giant IMG.

Although they "encourage" Gold to post the pre-packaged commercial tweets to her 65,000 followers herself, sometimes others do it for her.

Chambers' The King in Yellow, a collection of short stories published in 1895. Knowing this book is key to understanding the dark mystery at the heart of this series.

This collection of stories has influenced writers from H.P. Lovecraft and Raymond Chandler, to Robert Heinlein, Grant Morrison, Neil Gaiman and George R. R. Martin. The King in Yellow and his legendary city of Carcosa may be the most famous character and setting you've never heard of.

CNN’s Don Lemon Defends Samuel L Jackson Mix-Up: ‘People Do Look Alike!’

The CNN anchor argued Tuesday that people of the same race tend to share similar features, but the reporter still should’ve known Samuel L. Jackson

CNN’s Don Lemon stood up for KTLA reporter Sam Rubin who mixed up Samuel L. Jackson with Laurence Fishburne and explained that people would often mistake him for former CNN anchor TJ Holmes — and he even almost had Holmes pretend to be him for the segment.

“People all the time say to me, you look just like Don Lemon, and I would go, I hear that all the time!” Lemon said on “Outfront with Erin Burnett” Tuesday evening, “And after a moment I would go, I am Don Lemon!”

“When someone is in our tribe, I think it’s particularly easier for us to tell them apart, because we’re used to their facial features,” Lemon explained, “Let’s be honest, I’m probably going to get in trouble here –people do look alike! There are features that African Americans have that are similar! There are features that white people have that are similar! Features that Hispanic people have that are similar!”

“It’s true! I have Asian friends and they know every single distinction,” Burnett added.

Julianne Moore: 'In my opinion you don't get to have privacy when you're only 16!'

She is one of Hollywood’s biggest stars whose portrayals of emotionally troubled women has earned her four Oscar nominations and millions of dollars.
But fame and fortune do not prevent Julianne Moore from suffering the same anxieties facing other parents.

Nor do they take away from her that modern dilemma facing all mums and dads... should you follow your children’s activities on Facebook?

In an exclusive interview with The Mail on Sunday, Moore, who has two children – Caleb, 16, and Liv, 12, with her film director husband Bart Freundlich – reveals she regularly ‘stalks’ them on the social media site.

Admitting she is terrified of the potential dangers of the internet, she said: ‘It’s a scary world out there. I’m all over it with my kids.
‘My son has a Facebook page which he uses but he also knows that his father and I – what they call, lurk – on it so that if we see something untoward we can talk to him about it.

'In my opinion you don’t get to have privacy when you’re only 16!
‘My daughter has an Instagram account on my phone, which is quite boring at the moment because I keep having to look at her pictures, which are all of kittens and cupcakes, but it’s what you do.’

Mao Asada Aims for New Guinness Book Record

Japanese figure skater Mao Asada is hoping to get into the Guinness Book of World Records for a second time. Asada, who will retire after the Olympics in Sochi, plans to nail eight triple jumps -- triple axel, lutz, flip, loop, salchow, and toe loop -- in her free program.

No woman has ever managed eight triples in one program at the Olympics.

Female skaters must perform seven jumping passes, so Asada will need to achieve a triple-triple combination in order to hit eight. The more difficult the program, the higher the base score is and the bigger the buffer against possible mistakes.

Asada already got her name into the Guinness Book of World Records by landing three triple axels at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

Nailing eight triple jumps is fiendishly difficult, but the aim is probably to raise the base score to close the gap with Kim, who usually gets massive bonus on grade of execution for each element.

Season 9 of "Ghost Adventures" Kicks off with Charles Manson/Sharon Tate

The Season 9 premiere of “Ghost Adventures” by our own Zak Bagans on Saturday delves into the hideous and horrific Manson murders. Cult-commune crackpot Charlie Manson, now 79, is still serving life behind bars at San Quentin — after his death sentence was commuted — for the murder of Oscar-winning director (cough and rapist) Roman Polanski’s pregnant wife Sharon Tate. (The helmer of “Rosemary’s Baby,” Chinatown and “The Pianist” was filming in London at the time.)

Their mansion in Benedict Canyon in Hollywood has long been rumored to be haunted since the brutal and gruesome murders that shocked America in August 1969. Manson led the two-night murder spree of seven people in all by his “family” of girls including “Squaky” Fromme, Susan Atkins and Leslie Van Houton. At the controversial trial, Manson even leapt from the defense table to attack the judge.

Now for the first time, Zak’s infra-ray cameras and highly sensitive spirit recording equipment have been permitted near the actual residence.

“Lock down your Saturday because we burst out with our investigation of hauntings from the Manson murders,” Zak told me. “We have some amazing investigations this season, and we start off with a very dark, scary location within a stone’s throw from where the Sharon Tate murders occurred. We were called to a home in Benedict Canyon about 100 yards from the exact location of where Sharon Tate and others were murdered by the Manson family.”

Well-respected parapsychologist Dr. Barry Taff experienced very disturbing and dangerous events while trying to investigate the home. The area in Benedict Canyon where the home sits is recognized by the National Geological Society as an “anomalous energy site" harboring many strange events, including paranormal activity.

“We go to see whether or not this energy has anything to do with the massacre or other theories. Many bad things happened during our Manson murders investigation that we were unable to debunk as explainable. “Other locations this season include the Myrtles Plantation, the Morris Jumel Mansion in search of George Washington’s ghost and Bannack Ghost Town in Montana. We also have special guests including scientist Bill Chappell, who documents an extraordinary capture of paranormal evidence.”

For added creepiness, here is Manson's 1999 interview with Diane Sawyer:

DC Comics cancels 'The Movement'.

Okay, so this is sad, but the Movement is ending with issue 12.
Unfortunately, this book just never found a big enough audience.  The people who loved it, loved it hard, but that number was too small.
I am bummed about it, we wanted to do a book that didn’t read or look like anything else out there, and I think we accomplished that. I take the responsibility, I think it took a little while for people to really adopt the characters, which was a conscious choice but also a risky one in this very cautious market where people have to be extra careful of which books they choose.

Doing the Job: How "True Detective" Is Screwing With Buddy Cop Cliches

HBO's True Detective is flipping all kinds of Lethal Weapon-esque Buddy Cop tropes. What do these new positions say about the American male in 2014?

“We are things that labor under the illusion of having a self.” - Det. Rustin Cohle

"Past a certain age, a man without a family can be a bad thing." - Det. Martin Hart

By a happy accident, I had 20 minutes to kill channel-surfing prior to the pilot episode of HBO's True Detective six short weeks ago and found myself halfway through a basic cable showing of Lethal Weapon. Not only did it remind me of a more naïve time, in which it was possible to watch Mel Gibson without feeling profoundly icky, but it also served as a useful primer for the Buddy Cop Movie tropes True Detective was about to smack upside the head with a big red toolbox.

Specifically: an exploration of masculinity through the contrast of an emotionally disturbed live wire with a unique skill set and a slightly older stable family man, supported by women who are wives, daughters, or prostitutes but little more, and one in particular whose death serves solely as a plot driver. All of this is relevant to a particular interest of mine: how American men perceive themselves through TV and movies.

"Snake Salvation" pastor dies of snake bite

The pastor on Nat. Geo's "Snake Salvation" died Saturday night ... after one of the snakes bit him.

Pentecostal pastor Jamie Coots suffered the fatal attack while preaching to his Kentucky congregation.

Emergency units raced to the church ... but the reality star had already left and gone home.

The show's website explains the Pastor and his followers believe the Bible says a poisonous snakebite will not harm them as long as they are anointed by God’s power.

EMTs went to Coots' home but he sent them away ... refusing care ... an hour later he was dead.

It's unclear if they were filming during the sermon.

A rep for the show says the "Snake Salvation" finished filming last year ... and they never intended to film a second season.
