Taylor's Red Tour was the top grossing tour of North America in 2013

Pollstar estimates the total size of the North American concert business hit a new record high of $5.1 billion. That’s a particularly surprising number in light of the fact that in 2000 the total was only $1.7 billion.

The Top 100 Tours of North America hit a new record high at $2.79 billion. That represents a 10.3% increase over 2012.
Total tickets sold by the Top 100 was up 9.2% at 40.07 million. That is 3.37 million more tickets than in 2012.
Average ticket prices remained stable increasing a modest 1.1% to $69.52.

Taylor Swift did the top tour of North America grossing $112.7 million, just edging out Bon Jovi’s $107.3 million. That makes Swift’s tour the most lucrative ever produced by a country music artist, beating her own record of $97.7 million in 2011.

Swift also headlined 21 of the Top 200 grosses reported in North America. Kenny Chesney added 17 of his shows to the list making it a very good year for the house of Messina that produced both tours.
After years of worrying about who will replace all the aging baby boomer bands, the answers are starting to appear in the charts as new acts make their mark. One Direction, Luke Bryan, Zac Brown Band, and Bruno Mars all made the Top 20 for the first time and each is expected to do even bigger business in 2014.

Fan gets tattoo of LeBron James’ face on his leg

Sometimes sports fans love their favorite teams and athletes so much that they feel compelled to get tattoos so everyone knows just how much they love their favorite teams and athletes.

In the Instagram photo caption, LeBron said he’s flattered, but also maybe a little creeped out.

“My guy Shane Battier said he was out somewhere and a guy ran up to him to show him this tatted on his leg. I really don’t know how I’m suppose to feel about it. Lol. Ummm I guess that’s pretty cool/creepy/awesome all the same time!”

At least nothing was misspelled.

Nicole Richie 'drops to 88 pounds on diet of sunflower seeds, celery, juice and gum'

Nicole Richie's weight loss has come under the spotlight again, with a worrying new report claiming that she's "anorexic".

The 32-year-old star is said to weigh just 40kg (88 pounds), the same weight as her infamous suddenly skinny frame in 2006.

It comes just two months after we exclusively revealed husband Joel Madden was worried about Nicole's "fragile" body frame and was urging her to eat more.

Indeed, the reality star appeared gaunt at a special dinner in Beverly Hills on Tuesday, posing alongside a healthier looking Dita Von Teese (see picture above).

According to Star magazine's latest report, Nicole is apparently living on a diet of sunflower seeds, celery, juices and, bizarrely, chewing gum. A celebrity weight and lifestyle specialist told the mag "[Nicole] is likely subsisting on about 600 to maybe 800 calories a day".

Jay-Z Lets 12-Year-Old Fan Rap Onstage During Concert

'Can I rap for you?' Jay Z gave this youngster the chance of a lifetime when he invited him on-stage at his concert in Greensboro, North Carolina on Sunday

He's one of the biggest rappers in the world but Jay Z is also a father.

And his paternal side came out at the Greensboro, North Carolina gig of his Magna Carter world tour on Sunday when Jay Z made a 12-year-old fan’s dreams come true by inviting him to rap for the crowd.

After spotting a sign the youngster was holding which read 'Can I rap for you?', Jay granted his wish and the crowd went wild.

Despite his request, the youngster was clearly nervous to begin with, although he quickly overcame it to deliver a verse from Clique.

He quickly won over the stadium full of people and the rapper himself, but stayed away from the more controversial lyrics of the song which include references to 'drug dealing'.

Faking It: 5 Things to Know About MTV's New Comedy Series

"I feel like for teenagers these days and for the MTV audience, the show is not going to be controversial," says creator Carter Covington of the show's premise, with the two female main characters pretending to be a lesbian couple.

MTV's latest scripted comedy, Faking It, follows two best friends Karma and Amy who are mistakenly outed as lesbians in high school, catapulting them to instant popularity and prompts them to keep up with their romantic ruse. If there was any worry about whether the premise would ruffle feathers, the team behind the show is confident it will pass over.

"It's going to be an exaggerated version but very much based on the world they live in now. ... I think we carry this expectation that the world stays the same and it really doesn't."

Episode 3 is already up on Hulu, which I've embedded above (not sure if it's a mistake or not, but they haven't yanked it yet, so I assume no), but I sorta regret going ahead and watching it, b/c now I want to see episode 4, haha, and now will have to wait 2 weeks. ;__; I'd say that if you don't like this show after episode 3 (which was really good, imo), you probably aren't going to like this. However, Jeri Ryan is supposed to show up later on, so if you're still on the fence, there's that, too. (Sorry Canadian folks...it seems Showcase doesn't have episode 3 available on their site; not sure about On Demand options.)

'Bisexual men do not exist': Millionaire Matchmaker Patti Stanger offends the LGBT community (again)

Outspoken Millionaire Matchmaker host Patti Stanger has offended the LGBT community by saying that bisexual men do not exist.

Ms Stanger was asked ‘Would you ever marry a bisexual man?’ in a backstage interview for Bethenny Frankel’s TV show on Wednesday.

She replied: ‘Uh, never! Never. Never. And if they’re bisexual, they’re gay!’

Her commentary has outraged members of the gay community.

Jonathan Higbee of Instinct magazine penned a blog post for the publication in which he says ‘You would think that someone as involved in the dating scene as Bravo reality star Stanger would have experienced a personal evolution on the existence of bisexuals.’

Jessica Mahoney tweeted at Ms Stanger: 'What is your problem with bi-sexuals? Nice to see that you buy & feed into stereotypes. Shame on anyone who supports bigotry.'

Many other Twitter users dispatched 'Not cool!'

This is not the first time that Ms Stanger has made insulting comments on bisexuality.

In her show’s second season, she asks a client: ‘Do you want to marry a bisexual? Bisexual women are not the women you want to be the mother of your children.’

Cormac McCarthy’s Ex Arrested After Pulling A Gun From Her Vagina During Fight About Aliens

 photo cormac.jpg

Pulitzer award-winning novelist Cormac McCarthy‘s (No Country for Old Men, The Road) ex-wife Jennifer McCarthy is living out a story stranger than fiction. The Smoking Gun has a probable cause affidavit saying that 48-year-old Jennifer brandished a gun from vagina during a fight with her 53-year-old boyfriend over extraterrestrials at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The couple got into a heated argument about aliens, and then Jennifer left, according to the boyfriend. When she came home, he said she went to the bedroom, put on lingerie, and inserted the gun in her private area. At that point, the report says she asked him “Who is crazy, you or me?” and then pulled the gun out and pointed it at him.

Jennifer McCarthy admitted she “did have a gun at the time” of the argument. Luckily, the boyfriend got the gun away from her and put it in the toilet. Later he took it out of the toilet, and put it in a trash can outside where police found it. McCarthy received felony charge of aggravated assault on a household member, was booked into the county jail, and was released last Sunday after posting a $5000 bond.

Maybe her ex-husband can use some of this for material.

A Curious Chat with Spike Jonze

The director of Her performs impromptu lavender therapy, phones a friend, and occasionally discusses his new movie.

"You're gonna lie on the bed," Spike Jonze says to me. "It's part of your therapy."

Not too many interviews begin with such a peculiar request. We're in a suite at New York's Crosby hotel, presumably to do a press interview for Her, Jonze's near-future romance between a man and his computer's operating system. I hadn't expected to find myself lying down, being examined by its director.

Jonze produces a small bottle from the hotel bathroom, while I lay, arms folded, eyes closed. "This is a calming mist," he says, spritzing and fanning its lavender contents around the bed. "How's that feel?"

Then, leaning in, with an almost subliminal whisper: "What's your first question?"

"My first question is... " I pretend to snore, loudly. Jonze laughs.

This isn't a regular interview. But then, Spike Jonze isn't exactly a regular guy. Scampering around the hotel suite in a tailored suit, button-up shirt and his signature skater sneakers, he's more like an excitable 12-year-old eager to show off his latest project than the 44-year-old director of Being John Malkovich, Adaptation and Where the Wild Things Are. It's one of the keys to Her's success: as sincere and serious as the emotions threaten to get, the movie's also infused with the sensibility of the guy who co-created Jackass and directed music videos for the Beastie Boys.

Jonze doesn't like to do video interviews. It's a relief to us both.

I'm glad you hate video interviews. They're the worst.

Jonze: [Laughs.] You don't get to lay down on a bed in a video interview.

You get to look paralyzed as a bright light burns out your eyes. And it's like, "Hey, boxers or briefs, Spike Jonze?! Can you give me a high five?!"

Jonze: I did it on Being John Malkovich and I don't think I said anything. I don't think I said anything at all. I don't know; I was too self-conscious.

Jonze takes out his iPhone and snaps a picture. I'm still lying on the bed, the diffuse light of New York fall mingling with the traces of lavender mist. I'm reminded immediately of a scene in Her.

One of my favorite shots in the film is when Joaquin Phoenix is lying on the bed staring into the swirling dust particles, and "Samantha" is talking about disappearing into the spaces between. It's a such a perfect synthesis of sound and image. What inspires something like that moment?

Jonze: Thanks. I don't know, I can't because it's hard... I'm hesitant to wanna explain that much stuff. But I can say, one of the things that I think is worth talking about -- or maybe it's not even worth talking about -- but at least for me seemed important to talk about, in terms of the movie, is I think that, you know, something you said earlier in terms of our attachment to our devices; I think that the movie is, to me at least, like our relationship with technology is kind of the setting for the movie, as opposed to what the movie is necessarily about.

I think that the movie, to me, is more about our relationship to each other, and our need for intimacy and connection, and the difficulties within ourselves that make that challenging -- and the limitations within ourselves that prevent intimacy or connection; when it's that thing we need, maybe the most. And I think those are timeless things. That kind of loneliness and longing and need for connection, and what connection means and what intimacy means to us. So I think that the parts that are about technology and the parts that are about the way we're living in this modern world are sort of just the modern set of complications.

Her is different in that, in many near-future films, technology has run amok or is dystopian in some form, and here technology is benign and user-friendly -- even though it can cultivate loneliness. What's your relationship to technology? Do you see it as a good thing as it progresses?

Jonze: I don't have a good answer for that 'cause I think it's a complicated question, and I feel like those are the sort of questions the movie's asking. I don't feel like I have a good sound bite for that. [Laughs.] I made a movie about it. I spent three years making a movie about that.

Let me ask you this then: Do you think high-waisted trousers for men are really gonna catch on?

Jonze: [Laughs.] I tried them on, they were comfortable! I tried them on when we were doing fittings. I guess that, I don't know... [A publicist's phone rings; Jonze laughs, distracted.] I'm thinking about 20 different things now; that phone ringing, that building... yeah, I don't have a good answer on the future. In terms of making a movie we were not trying to make a predictive movie about the future, we more let ourselves be free to create the future that we wanted to set the story in, and the future that felt right for this story.

Nintendo now worth more than Sony as a whole

Wii U sales might still be a disaster but the opening of the Chinese market has boosted Nintendo’s market value back ahead of Sony.

According to the business markets Nintendo now has a market value higher than all of Sony combined, as Nintendo’s stock has more than doubled over the last few months.

The situation seems bizarre given how poorly the Wii U continues to do but a disappointing earnings report from Sony in November has seen its market capitalisation (the total value of all its shares) fall to $17.7 billion.

Nintendo on the other hand has been surprisingly popular with investors over the last few months, with stock prices on the rise and a market capitalisation that now stands at $18.4 billion.

That doesn’t necessary mean Nintendo has more money than Sony (although they are a notorious hoarder) but it is proof that the wider business world does not see things in the same way as most gamers.

Kellan Lutz Helps Raise Over $200,000 for Bulgarian Dog Shelter

Actor Kellan Lutz recently helped to raise more than $200,000 (£133,330) for a local dog shelter in Bulgaria after recruiting the cast and crew of his new movie The Legend Of Hercules to lend a hand.

The animal-loving Twilight star, who had previously worked on The Expendables 3 there, returned to the European country to shoot the new action film last year (13), and he was so saddened to see so many abandoned pets on the streets of Sofia, he decided to do something about it.

He explains, "There's no laws (in Bulgaria) against what you do with your pets so a lot of people get dogs and... there's strays everywhere and it breaks my heart how un-taken care of they are and there's this amazing organisation that would rescue the dogs.

"They hold 500 dogs in this small facility and they don't euthanise. So Renny (Harlin, director) and Gaia (Weiss, co-star) and all of the cast from Hercules, we decided to help out and we'd go there on our off days and walk the dogs. We even named one Hercules, and someone in Dublin (Ireland), I believe, bought Hercules from them. We also raised over $200,000 for this place."

Back in November, there was a post about his goal to raise money for the shelter. Glad to read this update. Good job, Kellan!

New Sailormoon anime FINALLY has a premiere date!!!

New ‘Sailor Moon’ Anime Gets Premiere Season

It’s been a long and twisted ride in getting the twentieth anniversary Sailor Moon anime project off the ground as there have been a fair number of delays and walkbacks along the way. But now, the official site has announced that the new anime series will begin airing in July and it will get a worldwide simulcast through Niconico. The Niconico part has been known, though things obviously could have changed, and at the New York Comic-Con last year, it was detailed that it would be subtitled in ten languages to achieve as much market penetration as possible and to stem off any fan streams of it.

Additionally, it’s been revealed that this is not a remake of the original anime series, which took its own liberties from the source material over its extended run, but that this anime adaptation is a more faithful adaptation of the manga. According to produced Atsutoshi Umezawa in a press release detailed on Anime News Network, “This second anime adaptation of Bishōjo Senshi Sailor Moon is not remaking the previous anime, but adapting [Naoko Takeuchi's] original manga and starting from scratch again. It is quite a project. The entire staff has been working hard to show everyone an entirely new Bishōjo Senshi Sailor Moon, so please look forward to it.”

The production team for the series includes:

Director: Munehisa Sakai
Series Script Supervisor: Yūji Kobayashi
Animation Production: Toei Animation
Theme Song Performance: Momoiro Clover Z

Neil deGrasse Tyson: Cosmos’s Master of the Universe

Dr. Tyson moonwalks and discusses Cosmos, Carl Sagan, and Pluto in this exclusive video.

“A Higgs boson goes into a church. …”

Neil deGrasse Tyson—America’s best-known astrophysicist, with more than 1.5 million followers on Twitter—is telling a joke to the team shooting his photo for the cover of Parade. Standing in the American Museum of Natural History in New York, he continues: “And the priest says, ‘We don’t allow Higgs bosons here.’ And the Higgs boson says, ‘But without me there is no mass.’ ” Bada bing!

He’s got another. “A photon walks into a bar and orders a drink,” Tyson begins, his resonant bass voice bubbling up from his 6-foot-2 frame. “The bartender says, ‘Do you want a double?’ And the photon says, ‘No, I’m traveling light.’ ” Bada boom!

Everyone laughs, without necessarily knowing that a photon is a tiny particle of light, or that the Higgs boson, the so-called “God particle,” gives everything physical mass. Tyson’s delivery is so enticing, his playfulness so charming, it’s no wonder Jon Stewart repeatedly features him on The Daily Show. “It’s one thing to be a lauded astrophysicist,” Stewart says. “It’s another to possess a gift for comedic timing. You don’t normally get both, but that’s Neil.”

Tori Spelling's "Friend" Doesn't Think She's Strong Enough To Leave Dean

As rumors swirl about the state of Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott's marriage, a "devastated" Spelling remains focused on her kids.

While Spelling, 40, has not publicly responded to the reports, "She's much more heartbroken than anyone realized," says the pal. "She's flipping out and is completely devastated. Remember early last year when the tabloids wrote something [about marriage troubles] and she blasted them on her website?" adds the friend. "Now she's not even doing that."

On the question of whether Spelling will stay in the marriage. "I don't think she even knows what she's going to do right now," says the source. "But no matter what, she's staying strong for her kids. She's all about her family. She worships those kids" – Liam, 6½, Stella, 5½, Hattie, 2, and Finn, 15 months.

"I don't know if she's strong enough to leave him right now with everything she's going through and four young kids," the friend notes. "She could stay with him or not. God only knows."

For now, Spelling, who was photographed with McDermott in Los Angeles on Thursday, remains focused on keeping the family intact. "Not just her marriage, but all of it," says her friend. "And it's not for her business and TV career but for her family."

Julia Roberts (On August Osage County, "the next Julia Roberts," Family, Acting, Etc.)

On the set of her latest film, August: Osage County, in Oklahoma, Julia Roberts spent the best part of a day laying into Meryl Streep, pummelling her so convincingly that the screen legend ended up covered in bruises.

‘I felt terrible every time, I was so worried about hurting her, and she was such an incredible trouper,’ says Roberts. ‘We were both hurt and I would say, “Look at me, oh my God,” but she never said a word about her bruises. And yet there she was, icing her swelling wrist. She has a lot more endurance than I do!’

Streep stars as Violet, Roberts’s bitter and twisted, cancer-stricken, drug-addicted mother in the hugely engrossing and darkly funny new drama, adapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Tracy Letts.

The pair, at loggerheads throughout the story, finally come to blows in the climactic, jaw-dropping family dinner scene, in which Roberts knocks Streep to the floor and pounds her repeatedly, trying to retrieve a bottle of pills.

‘I was honestly afraid that I might hurt her because once I mustered up the courage to actually jump out of the chair on top of her, I could only control so much of what happened. We were going at it because I could not get the pills out of her hand. There I was on top of her. But she was tough as nails. This is the first time we’ve been down in the trenches together – and what trenches we decided to get into!’

Star Wars Rumors: Who Is J.J. Abrams Eyeing for Episode VII?

The Star Wars: Episode VII casting speculation game continues – and The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision has a few names to add to the mix: Michael Fassbender, Girls star Adam Driver and Hugo Weaving.

Never has a project attracted so much ink about meetings, but such is the passionate interest in Star Wars. Last fall, every few weeks there was a breathless reveal of a meeting, with names such as Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael B. Jordan, Jack O’Connell, Alex Pettyfer, Saoirse Ronan and Sullivan Stapleton coming up. And those are only the names that leaked out.

With all the actors being tossed around – including a report this week that Breaking Bad's Jesse Plemons was meeting with director J.J. Abrams about a role – Heat Vision thought it was time to check in on Star Wars in general.

Sources confirm Plemons is on the list to chat with Abrams for Episode VII (and possibly the entire trilogy), with a meeting set to take place this week. But he is only one of a long string of actors on Abrams' meeting list.

As usual, Disney and Lucasfilm are declining to comment, as are the agencies of the respective actors.

The project has changed significantly since Oscar winner Michael Arndt split as writer on Episode VII in the fall, with duties taken up by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan, who co-wrote Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Sure to hit the USA harder than a polar vortex: The movie tie-in paperback of Divergent (Feb. 11) and the Divergent Official Illustrated Movie Companion by Kate Egan (March 4). Coming this summer: Four: A Divergent Collection (July 8).

Melissa McCarthy to host 'SNL' for the third time

Melissa McCarthy — a fan favorite who won second place in our “Best SNL Host” poll last year — will return to helm NBC’s sketch show for the third time on Feb. 1, according to Variety. That’s the day before Super Bowl XLVIII, which this year will take place in New Jersey — less than 10 miles away from SNL‘s midtown Manhattan studio.

McCarthy previously hosted Saturday Night Live in 2011 and 2013. She currently stars on the CBS sitcom Mike & Molly and can next be seen on the big screen in a pair of comedies: opposite Bill Murray in St. Vincent de Van Nuys (opening April 11) and with Susan Sarandon in Tammy (opening July 2), which McCarthy also co-wrote with her husband Ben Falcone. (Falcone directed the film as well.)

No musical guest for McCarthy’s return has yet been announced.

Zayn Malik On One Direction Fighting: 'We Understand Each Other's Boundaries'

One Direction star Liam Payne has had to deny this week that the group are feuding over the future direction of their music, and Zayn Malik has now been quoted as saying that the lads "understand each other's boundaries" more now than when they first started out.

The boys spend huge chunks of time in one-another's pockets thanks to a packed-out schedule of recording, promoting and touring. (This sounds like they're stealing each other's money)

And the 21-year-old, who could be a married man by time 2014 is out, has said the five-piece are now better than ever before at reading each-other's emotions.

“We’re all really good mates and understand each other’s boundaries a lot more now," he told Top Of The Pops magazine.

“We understand if somebody in the band’s a bit tired, then we know not to annoy them, or if they’re upset you might have to speak to them.”

After it was alleged that Harry Styles was causing drama by pushing for a rockier sound on the boys' fourth album, Liam had taken to Twitter to insist: "Lots of articles saying we are clashing ... no ones clashing we are just having a bit of Family time after hitting the road for 3 years".

The message was retweeted by Niall Horan, seemingly putting rumours of behind-the-scenes tension to bed for the time being.
