Aunt Sandy has 8 Christmas Trees

Sandra Lee says she will not be baking endlessly throughout the holiday season, but she is still quite busy preparing. “I have spent the last three weeks decorating our house. We have eight trees, we have a gingerbread kitchen,” Lee told VF Daily at a MAC Cosmetics dinner for Zac Posen on Wednesday. “I’m really into Christmas,” she added. “I wasn’t raised with Christmas, so I celebrate it very much now. But, yes, we do the house for holidays, and I have my family coming this Christmas, so it’s a special Christmas for me.”

So Steve Martin got caught slippin on Twitter...

Twitter erupts at the comedian, who spends the rest of the evening apologizing

FRIDAY, DEC 20, 2013 10:11 PM EST

Steve Martin apologized for a racist joke on Twitter Friday night, then quickly deleted the tweet and continued saying he was sorry.

Martin was bantering with Twitter followers and turning their grammar questions into jokes when he was asked “is this how you spell lasonia?”

His response: “It depends. Are you in an African-American restaurant or at an Italian restaurant.”

Martin apologized and deleted the tweet, but screen shots and angry, disappointed reactions ricocheted around Twitter all evening.

Martin then expressed contrition again, tweeting that “I did apologize. But again, a second later I realized what an offensive thing I’d done.” He answered another tweet that told him “in retrospect, bad joke” with the response “Yeah, I learned that.”

Lena Dunham's childhood home on market for $6.25 million.

The eclectic TriBeCa duplex loft that took a star turn in Lena Dunham’s career-launching indie feature, “Tiny Furniture” (after its owners, who happened to be her parents, allowed her to film there), is poised to enter the market at $6.25 million. The imaginatively renovated living-and-studio space is in a former textile factory at 16 Desbrosses Street.

The building, on a cobblestone block between Hudson and Greenwich Streets just east of the Hudson River, was bought for $7.9 million in 2001 by a consortium of artists and writers led by the architect Peter Moore. It was eventually converted into eight residential condominiums.

The nearly 3,600-square-foot unit, No. 4S, which includes a bilevel space across the hall, is being sold by Ms. Dunham’s parents, the artist/filmmaker Laurie Simmons and the painter Carroll Dunham, both renowned in the fine arts orbit. Mr. Dunham handled the inaugural renovation while the family lived in a Brooklyn Heights rental, and for the first two years he and Ms. Simmons used the loft as their work space. The family moved there in 2004, and the duplex has since undergone a progression of reconfigurations and modernizations by the architect David Bers in collaboration with Mr. Dunham, with finishes and overhead lighting by the designer Nick Dine and custom wood cabinetry by the artist Gregory Curry.

Feminists Everywhere React To Beyonce's Latest

617,000. That's how many copies of her self-titled album Beyonce sold in three days last week, after she dropped it without warning. As fans and critics have dug in, debates about the messages and images within it are roiling. Is Beyonce, the sexy pop goddess who has performed at two inaugurations, also this generation's highest-profile feminist? I spoke to six people who identify as feminists — all of whom feel differently about Beyonce — to find out how a pop album no one was ready for is capping off a year of think pieces and Twitter skirmishes.

The night Beyonce unleashed her new songs and videos, filmmaker Tanya Steele watched her Twitter account explode. "When I saw black feminists on Twitter just going crazy, I thought, 'Wow, she must really have done something!' "

So Steele downloaded what her colleagues were calling Beyonce's Feminist Manifesto. "I saw her in pornographic poses," she says. "I couldn't understand what black feminists were looking at." She says for her it was just another tired example of a woman performing for men.

Tyra Banks Hates Calling it Plus-Size

 photo TyraBanks-MSA-014568_zpse92912ac.jpg

Tyra Banks hates the label "plus-size" and thinks the term should be "fiercely real".

The 'America's Next Top Model' host wants to use a phrase with a more "positive connotation" and doesn't like the idea of separating women by their body size.

She told Huff Post Style: "I don't like the label 'plus-size'. I call it 'fiercely real.' On 'Top Model', we call it fiercely real. I don't want to use the term 'plus-size,' because, to me, what the hell is that? It just doesn't have a positive connotation to it. I tend to not use it."

Tyra is leading campaigns with the likes of cereal brand Special K to promote more diverse body types and insisted it can't become another "trend", it must be the norm.

She added: "We just need to make sure it's not a trend and that it's something that's normal, because this stuff comes in waves and it would be nice to see it become constant."

Tom Cruise Drops $50 Million Dollar Lawsuit, Settles Out Of Court

Tom Cruise's lawsuit against Bauer Publishing, In Touch and Life & Style magazines has been settled.

Cruise went after Bauer Media Group last year in response to a cover story that seemed to claim he spent weeks without any contact with his daughter Suri after his split from Katie Holmes.

Bert Fields, Cruise's lawyer, denied the claims, insisting that the actor spoke to his daughter nearly every day while on set abroad.

While the terms of the settlement were not disclosed and remain confidential, Bauer Publishing has released an apology stating that the company "never intended to communicate that Tom Cruise had cut off all ties and abandoned his daughter, Suri, and regret if anyone drew that inference from anything they published."

Court documents dated Friday note that the case is hereby dismissed with prejudice, meaning that Cruise can't re-file.

Steve Harvery Cleared Of Child Abuse. Ex-Wife Jailed.

Steve Harvey was accused by his ex-wife and 16-year-old son of brutally beating the boy but the comedian has been cleared. A judge then found Mary Harvey in contempt Thursday and sent her to jail for leaking sealed information about the alleged incident to the media. She released a letter written by Steve's lawyer that she says she refuses to sign claiming she made the incident up.

Collapse )

As for the incident, according to a police report, Mary claims Steve got a phone call from the boy's school informing him his son lied about turning in homework. According to the kid, Steve hit him with a belt and then a paddle. Cops took photos of the boy's injuries, showing bruises on his buttocks and right thigh, as well as cuts on his leg. The police report goes on to say the boy told cops, the beating was so brutal he had trouble urinating for days.

The matter was then referred to the Texas Dept. of Family and Protective Services. Steve's rep state that the Dept. concluded, "Based on the information obtained, the child does not appear to be at risk. The case is closed without further investigation."

Mary believes that it's all a cover-up, and she's been on a campaign for several years to expose him. But yesterday the judge had enough and felt she violated the protective order in the case and threw her in jail for 30 days.

Kevin Hart Covers Vibe Sitting In Between A White Woman’s Legs Talking About Post-Racialism

Drizzy Drake is sharing his January Vibe cover shine with another notable man next month: bite-size comedian Kevin Hart. The first issue of the new year, labeled “The Race Issue,” will explore “America’s fear of a black planet,” and to do so the mag asked these two gentlemen whose race hasn’t halted their success in the slightest to speak on their experience as black men in the entertainment industry. Yesterday, we dove into Drake’s thoughts on the matter, but Kevin Hart also had some interesting things to say about what effect racism has had on him and how he’s raising his children to think about race in this multicultural era.

You don’t make race the nucleus of your routine. Why?

No, I don’t need to. I get that racism exists, but it’s not a catalyst for my content. I don’t need to talk about race to have material. My style of comedy is more self-deprecating. I think that makes me more relatable. When you deal with “topics”—race, white versus black—you’re not separating from the pack. You’re doing what everybody else is doing. It’s easy to take those subjects and make them personal. You show more depth when that’s not your shtick.

Talk about raising kids in this post-racial society.

My kids are coming up in a different time then me. Interracial couples are of the norm. With me, it’s about making sure my kids understand the importance of education and having opportunities that I didn’t. My goal as a parent is to make sure they don’t take what they have for granted. You definitely want your kids to understand their heritage, but I don’t want my kids to just focus on being black. They are people. I don’t want them to judge other people or to be judged. I want them to be good people, so good people will treat them accordingly. I preach that to my kids and everything else falls into place.

Divergent director: "this is a far more complex story than Hunger Games"

Back in May, Fandango had the privilege of visiting the Chicago set of the adaptation of Veronica Roth’s Divergent and just last week, it was off to the film’s Los Angeles edit bay to check out what director Neil Burger has accomplished as he creeps closer to locking in his final cut.

For those in need of the basics, Divergent takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where the population is divided into five factions based on a citizen’s core values – Abnegation for selflessness, Dauntless for bravery, Amity for peace, Candor for honesty, and Erudite for intelligence. Shailene Woodley’s Beatrice Prior is born into Abnegation, but come the Choosing Ceremony, she’ll get the opportunity to decide for herself; stick with her family, or trust her gut and leave them behind for a new faction.

Fortunately Beatrice doesn’t have to make this life-changing decision all on her own. Prior to the Choosing Ceremony, all 16-year-olds undergo an aptitude test that reveals an individual’s disposition towards a particular faction. Trouble is, Beatrice’s results are “inconclusive,” and that’s where our preview of the film began.

Niall Horan's cute face to be put on real money

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Niall Horan is to be honoured by his hometown when the new Gar for 2014 is released with the 1D star’s face on it.

The Gar is Mullingar’s unique tourism currency, launched in 2011 and based on the design of the old £10 note; it featured James Joyce, a famous Mullingar resident, who also featured on the original punt note.

Olympic silver medallist John Joe Nevin replaced the author in the summer of 2012 to celebrate his homecoming and his excellent run in the London Olympics.

Now, facing into 2014, Mullingar Chamber has chosen another famous citizen for its currency and hopes his fans will come to the town and spend both time and the Niall Horan Gar while they are here.

Could Taylor Swift be working with Justin Timberlake on her next album?

While in Nashville recently, Justin Timberlake took time out to speak to The Tennessean about country music and where he wants to fit in. He feels so strongly about Music City that he said a personal and professional move to town isn’t a question of “if” but “when.”

“The next move for me is to sink some teeth in here,” said Timberlake, who said he grew up listening to country music with his grandfather. “I’ve done it before. I got a taste of it.” He co-wrote “The Only Promise That Remains,” which Reba McEntire included on her “Duets” album, and he sang background vocals on the recording of the song.

Timberlake points out that at 32 years old, he’s been “doing what I’m doing now for a long time. There might be another calling for me out there,” he said. “And it might be being a part of music in this way as a communicator and a teacher and a guide.”

Might Taylor Swift be a potential student? He questioned what the multi-platinum-selling singer’s career will be “when she crosses over the threshold of adulthood.”

“She’ll get her day in the sun when she’s ready to move the needle,” he said. “That was something I was very conscious of. I was in a group that was bigger than bubble gum. Talk about stadiums. We played every stadium in the world, it feels like. It’s almost like, with anything, when you do settle into adulthood is when when people respect you in a different way. But there’s no question in my mind that that’s where she’s going, if she so chooses. For me I am sort of the oracle of the idea, and I’m also the communicator of it.”
