Someone is trying to sabatoge Lana Del Rey's Oscar nomination

The Oscars short list for Best Original Song has only just been released, and already there are reports of an anonymous entity attempting to sabotage Lana Del Rey's chances at a statue.
Deadline says members of the Academy's music selection committee have received mailers featuring a bogus article purported to be printed from the Variety site. The text claims The Great Gatsby song "Young and Beautiful" is disqualified due to a technicality over the film's release date.
But no such article exists and Warner Bros. insists Del Rey's song — and the four others submitted from the same soundtrack — is perfectly legit. Academy members are currently tasked with cutting down the short list of 75 songs to a manageable number of actual nominations, to be announced January 16. Also from Gatsby: the xx's "Together," Florence + the Machine's "Over the Love," and Fergie, Q-Tip, and GoonRock's "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)."
Warner is apparently responding by creating a new featurette highlighting "Young and Beautiful." According to Billboard, this sort of thing has happened before, though usually involving the Best Picture candidates.

Daft Punk, Kendrick Lamar, Imagine Dragons, P!nk To Perform at Grammy Awards
Daft Punk, the elusive, pioneering French electronic duo whose "Random Access Memories" -- the pair's biggest-selling album which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 -- has topped multitudes of year-end lists and was released in semi-surprise fashion earlier this year, will perform at the 56th annual Grammy Awards, set to take place on Jan. 26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Along with the "Get Lucky" duo, the Grammys will feature a performance by Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons; a duet between P!nk and fun.'s Nate Ruess; and a special "Grammy moment" performance featuring Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson and Blake Shelton.
Daft Punk is nominated for Record of the Year ("Get Lucky"), Album of the Year ("Random Access Memories"), Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Dance/Electronica Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical.
Daft Punk were set to perform on "The Colbert Report" earlier this year before withdrawing over a contract they'd signed for their appearance as presenters during the MTV Video Music Awards. While there have been persistent rumors of a 2014 tour, this will be the first live performance by Daft Punk since the release of "Random Access Memories."

Kellan Lutz Is "Happily Single" and Therefore Not Dating Miley Cyrus

Hey, the paparazzi had to ask, right?
A day after Kellan Lutz arrived in Miami on the same private plane as Miley Cyrus, inquiring minds wanted to know if he and the 21-year-old pop princess were an item.
"You guys are stupid," he said, smiling, as he signed autographs for fans at LAX after flying home from Miami, an exchange caught on video by X17online.
So he's not dating Miley, then?
"No, I'm happily single," the 28-year-old Twilight heartthrob replied. "I am very focused on work."
So, chalk the Kellen-Cyrus sighting up to just a couple of celebs enjoying the same mode of first-class travel.
A source told E! News yesterday that the two were "definitely not a couple." In between gigs, Miley had spent the weekend in the Bahamas with pal Cheyne Thomas (because jetting off to an island for a few days because they can is something else that celebs are wont to do).
And like Lutz, who's up next on the big screen playing the title role in Hercules: The Legend Begins, Cyrus is way focused on her work.
She's been all over the country performing at various Jingle Balls, and she tweeted yesterday that the video for "Adore You," the next single off of Bangerz, is coming soon.
Who do you think Miley should date next, ONTD?

PETA calls for cancellation of Duck Dynasty

Now People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Duck Dynasty, an unscripted show about a wealthy family that makes products for duck hunters. The organization is calling for A&E to cancel its popular show in light of Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ.
“PETA wants A&E to do more than suspend one of the characters on Duck Dynasty for damning gays,” the statement said. “We call on the channel to challenge the entire crew of duck slayers to ignore Sarah Palin’s self-serving slap on the back for spewing hate speech and deny that they are as anti-gay as they are anti-animal. All people who consider themselves followers of Christ should follow all His teachings—and that includes showing mercy, compassion, and kindness to all of God’s creation, human and nonhuman alike. What’s ‘sinful’ is hating people and animals. PETA asks everyone who consider themselves to be Christian to reject hate speech and call for this show’s cancellation.”
On Wednesday, the network announced that it has suspended Robertson for an undetermined amount of time after he made anti-gay statements to the men’s magazine.

Def Leppard Denies It'll Take Legal Action Against One Direction

The boys of One Direction may have a sticky situation on their hands over the chorus of the group's new song "Midnight Memories." The title track off the fivesome's new album -- which topped the Billboard 200 last week -- has a fist-pumping, three-chord hook that is similar to Def Leppard's classic "Pour Some Sugar on Me."
British tabloid Mirror UK reports Def Leppard had asked its lawyers to look into allegations that "Midnight Memories" and "Pour Some Sugar on Me" bear striking similarities -- enough that the boys and the additional writers of the song could be in hot water.
However, Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell -- the band's guitarists -- confirms to Billboard that Def Leppard is not, in fact, pursuing legal action, with Collen calling the songs "very similar in structure" but nothing more.

Lady Gaga Rules Billboard.com's Readers Poll 2013

Put your hands up, make 'em touch: Lady Gaga is the ruler of Billboard.com's 2013 Readers' Poll, which allowed pop music fans far and wide to vote for their favorite albums, songs, videos and performances of the past year. Gaga, who returned in late 2013 with her "ARTPOP" opus, emerged in a superstar-laden field and claimed the poll's top prize: the 2013 MVP.
2013 was a huge year for Gaga in the Readers' Poll, but Miley Cyrus wasn't too far behind the "Do What U Want" singer. "Wrecking Ball," Cyrus' first No. 1 single on the Hot 100 chart, was voted the best Hot 100 chart-topper of the year, and Cyrus' "Bangerz" career revival was voted the Comeback of the Year. Sexist of the Year 2013 is...... Robin Thicke

The singer Robin Thicke has been named sexist of the year by a body representing dozens of women's groups around the UK.
The singer achieved fame and notoriety on the back of his single Blurred Lines, which was accompanied by a video in which he was surrounded by naked dancing models and has been condemned as suggesting date rape is acceptable.
Thicke topped the voting in a poll conducted by the End Violence Against Women Coalition. David Cameron, Britain's prime minister, was runner-up for the second successive year.
The coalition – which has more than 60 member groups working to end sexual and domestic violence, trafficking and other forms of abuse – also highlighted comments Thicke had made in interviews.
Speaking to GQ magazine, he said: "People say, 'Hey, do you think this is degrading to women?' I'm like, 'Of course it is. What a pleasure it is to degrade a woman. I've never gotten to do that before'."
The coalition said it would be sending Thicke a voucher to enable him to download Aretha Franklin's hit song Respect as a prize.

Mark Zuckerberg Gives Away Billions To Charity, Still So So Much Richer Than You

It may be true that people are a bit more generous around the holidays, but Mark Zuckerberg is taking that to a whole new level. Facebook's founder is once again making a hefty donation to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation: a block of Facebook stock worth $1 billion. He gave the foundation roughly the same amount of stock last year, but it was worth only half as much at the time. It's "by far the largest gift in our history," the foundation's CEO told the San Jose Mercury News, without providing any specifics on how the donation will be used. But it won't be the only stock to soon escape Zuckerberg's hands. CNBC reports he's selling off 41.4 million Facebook shares worth $2.3 billion ... to pay his taxes.
Last year Zuckerberg's tax bill rang in at $1 billion, but this year's tab could be closer to $2 billion, an astounding sum considering that the top 400 earners in 2009 paid a total of $16 billion. Still, even after the tax man takes his due, Zuckerberg will have plenty of cash left to roll around in. He'll still have 444.2 million Facebook shares, worth around $24 billion, which give him about 62.8% of the voting power of Facebook shareholders, down from 65.2% before the sale and donation.

Liam Payne & Harry Styles proud of “mature sounding” Midnight Memories
When the Telenoche host asked Liam to describe “the evolution of the band” in terms of how their third album Midnight Memories differs from the previous albums, Liam said, “Well, I think it’s a lot more live sounding. There’s a lot more maturity in it, and I think the main difference is that we wrote this one really. We wrote a few tracks on each of the albums but on this one, we spent a lot of time on it.”
Harry added, “If you listen to the first album, then listen straight to the third album, it’s completely different.” He continued, “Even though it’s only been three years [since 1D were formed] I think when you're our age, three years is a long time and quite a lot has happened in terms of growing up in those three years.”
Meanwhile, it’s been reported today that Midnight Memories is still very much on track to be the Christmas No1 in the album chart. (slay a bit!) 1D’s only competition in the charts is from Gary Barlow’s Since I Saw You Last and Robbie Williams’ Swings Both Ways, but as the Official Charts company confirmed on Wednesday, Midnight Memories is hanging in at No1 by a pretty big margin.

Quentin Tarantino Not Working on Kill Bill Vol. 3 (& He Almost Quit or Whatever)
Quentin Tarantino has revealed that he once considered quitting the movie-making business.
The Oscar-winning filmmaker admitted he thought of stopping after his 10th film, but decided against it.
"There was a time when I said I wanted to stop after 10 movies, but I went back on the idea," he told So Film.
"OK, it would sound really cool because it's a round number and it would make sense as I would have made three movies per decade, but it's not fixed in time. I still have some more things to do before being done with movies."
Quentin, who has directed 11 movies and been a writer on 17 film scripts, said he is enjoying his career at this moment in time.
"Up to now, everything's fine. To me, the last 20 years have gone well: I'm happy with my career, I'm happy to be where I am now, I'm happy with the way my work has been received, inside the cinema industry and outside. But it might not last," he said.
"At the minute, I only answer to my own ideas, even if I try my hardest not to be conscious about myself and about what I do. In fact, the person I trust least to talk about my work is myself. "
The 50-year-old hinted he would like to turn his hand to the horror genre.
"I've done what I wanted to do by the time I was this age. Today, I'm further down the road. There are no genres I absolutely want to do any more, like ticking boxes: 'This, done'. I don't think about Kill Bill 3 that much, as... we already visited them," he said.
"If there was something I would like to work on again, it would be Honshu's movies, maybe. Or a horror movie, perhaps."

Miranda Kerr Stops by Terry Richardson's Studio

Nigella Lawson, Charles Saatchi and the ugly face of patriarchal power

A man places his hands round his wife's neck in a public place. He is very rich and powerful which perhaps allowed him to think that there were no limits to what he was permitted, or that since the world was in any case always watching, it would only ever admire, never critique. Perhaps he thought that he was outside the law.
Clearly taken aback by the public response – shock followed by more or less undiluted support for his wife – he argues that it was a light-hearted tiff (the images far worse than the reality), that his wife could just as well have had her hands around his neck (as he insisted she often did), and then that she has slandered him by not coming publicly to his defence.
It does not take much to see that these three responses, taken together, make nonsense of each other. He did it but it was nothing; she is as culpable as him; she is the only guilty party in the whole affair. Flailing around in his own arguments, he made himself ridiculous. Her silence was, therefore, not just dignified, or – as some commentators suggested – the classic muteness of women in the face of male violence, but wise. The fact that he had to accept a police caution made no difference. Up until a short while ago, he was still threatening her with legal action for not having spoken out on his behalf.

6 (3) Great Performances By Black Actors In 2013

In the past few months there has been some discussion about whether 2013 marked a “renaissance” in that hard-to-pin-down genre known as “black film”. It’s been established, of course, that while we did get movies like The Butler, Baggage Claim, Best Man Holiday and 12 Years a Slave, to lump all those films under ghettoizing terms, like, for instance, “race-themed,” was to ignore the diversity in the kinds of stories being told, and ultimately downplay the fact that we actually still have a very long way to go.
There are movies telling black stories, our stories, that I’ve loved this year, films that have easily found a spot on my "best of" lists, including Let the Fire Burn, La Pirogue, and Fruitvale Station. But for me, 2013 was an important year not in the volume of projects starring black people (as earlier revealed only 7% of the films released this year were “black films”), but in the number of great performances across both film and TV. Again, we’re not “there” yet, but still, something must be said for the dynamic characters and featured players that emerged in 2013.
Below is a list, in no particular order, of some of the performers who stood out.

Ice Age 5 to be released on July 15, 2016
Manny and his posse will be back in theaters on July 15, 2016.
From Fox Animation Studios and Blue Sky Studios, Ice Age 5 intends to continue the success of the blockbuster family franchise. All told, the first four films grossed $2.8 billion at the global box office.
Last year's Ice Age: Continental Drift took in $874.9 million worldwide, including a massive $714 million internationally. Fox hasn't released any details about the fifth installment, although most of the main voice cast -- led by Ray Romano as Manny the wooly mammoth -- is expected to return.
The July 2016 date was originally occupied by Anubis, another Fox Animation and Blue Sky title. Anubis is being pushed back two years to March 23, 2018, the Easter corridor.
Anubis is loosely based on Bruce Zick's novel about a mummy's curse that results in an unintended trip the Egyptian underworld.
Summer 2016 also sees the debut of Pixar and Disney's Finding Dory, a sequel of sorts to Finding Nemo. Finding Dory hits theaters June 17 -- the same day that DreamWorks Animation's How to Train Your Dragon 3 is scheduled to open, making for an epic showdown (Fox distributes and markets DWA titles).

Kanye West Responds to Anti-Semitism Accusation, Calls Comments "An Ignorant Compliment"

Kanye West was recently subject to criticism from the Anti-Defamation League, who accused him of anti-Semitism after comments in a radio interview. In the interview, Kanye said "Black people don't have the same level of connections as Jewish people." The Anti-Defamation League called it "classic anti-Semitism," adding "There it goes again, the age-old canard that Jews are all-powerful and control the levers of power in government."
Now, Kanye has responded to these accusations in conversation with Chicago radio station B96 (via Radio.com). He called the comment an "ignorant compliment" and said it was misconstrued. "I don’t know how being told that you have money is like an insult," Kanye said. "That would be like if somebody complimented black guys and said, ‘All black guys have big penises.’ You don’t want to be the black guy who raises his hand and says like, ‘That’s not true. I have proof!’"
In the interview, Kanye also mentioned that he is hoping to potentially record with Frank Ocean, the Weeknd, and James Blake. He's at work on his Adidas line for now, which will include shoes as well as men's and women's clothing. He told B96 that the items will be on sale in September 2014, and that Adidas will give him "stand-alone stores."

Yoko Ono: Art Would Be Dead Without Lady Gaga

2013 was a very good year for Yoko Ono. She was one of three acts to deliver two top 20 Billboard dance club singles—"Hold Me" (featuring Dave Audé) and "Walking on Thin Ice 2013"—a distinction she shares with only Avicii and Daft Punk; she finally buried the hatchet with Paul McCartney—"What are you going to do…hold a grudge you never really had?" he asked in the November issue of Rolling Stone—and continued to fight the good fight against issues such as world hunger, fracking, and gun control. But the 80-year-old also has a knack for ruling the zeitgeist. Her mastery of high-low culture as evidenced by an absurd menswear collection for Opening Ceremony and a star-studded video for "Bad Dancer," in which she prances around in hot shorts chanting, "I'm a bad dancer/ You're a bad dancer," cemented her iconoclast status. Here, we probe the provocateur for her knee-jerk reaction to women in music, the artist's plight, and the year in pop culture.

“There’s a lot of animals being killed from like poachers and stuff, so I want to help, like, endangered species of animals,” he explains.
The video interview is part of a documentary film project organized by matriarch Katherine Jackson, 83, that’s being promoted online.
Katherine is asking fans to donate to the pay-per-view effort at the website fundanything.com/rememberingmichael.
The sneak-peek trailer posted online also includes excerpts from interviews with Michael’s two older kids – Prince, 16, and Paris, 15 – as well as their grandfather Joe Jackson, 85.
It shows Paris with the long hair she had prior to her suicide attempt over the summer and subsequent hospitalization.
“He promised me he would teach me how to moonwalk. Never got around to it,” Paris says in snippets of her interview. “I will definitely never forget him, ever. He was amazing.”

Are You Ready?

Britney's "Piece Of Me" show will be an A-list event with some of the biggest names in music attending opening night next Friday, December 27 at the newly-named Axis theater inside Planet Hollywood.
“It’s a whole new experience, a complete cosmetic transformation,” Jason Gastwirth, senior VP of marketing and entertainment, tells the Las Vegas sun of the newly renovated theater.
Execs promised fans will experience a nightclub-like atmosphere in the newly opened up lobby area and VIP table service alongside the Axis’ new dance zone.
“It’s a theater now with a dance floor. It’s a theater now with a lobby that’s the equivalent of a club experience,” Gastwirth continued. “In addition to the new VIP seating booths, there’s new flooring, new carpeting. The sound system has been entirely revamped, so it’s the most up-to-date technology anywhere in the world.
“On top of that, we have the latest innovations in LED technology that is way beyond crystal clear and wraps the audience inside the massive projections above the stage, in front of them and down its sides. We’re certainly the first in America with all of this and maybe the world.”
Her stage is twice the size of any basic bitch on tour. She's using an elevated anchor-shaped lip to strut out onto the dance floor.
“So close, in fact, Britney and all the stars who perform there will be able to see every face in the audience,” said her manager, Larry Rudolph. “It’s extraordinary because people just aren’t used to seeing her so up close in what appears such an intimate setting.”

“We are extremely pleased with Britney’s ticket sales,” Gastwirth said. “Genuinely happy. That’s why we released ticket sales and dates for her second run. It’s a total validation of her success and strength. You only have to wait a few days more to see all the excitement. You’ve never seen anything like this before. It’s going to blow your mind.”
