The Library of Congress has announced its list of 25 films to be added to the National Film Registry this year. Among the movies are Walt Disney’s 1964 musical Mary Poppins, Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 crime hit Pulp Fiction, and Michael Moore’s 1989 documentary Roger & Me..
“The National Film Registry stands among the finest summations of more than a century of extraordinary American cinema,” James H. Billington, Librarian of Congress, said in a statement. “This key component of American cultural history, however, is endangered, so we must protect the nation’s matchless film heritage and cinematic creativity.”

The BBC have released a new promotional image of all the mentors together on the upcoming third series of The Voice UK.
Ricky Wilson and Kylie Minogue were announced earlier in the year as the replacements for Jessie J and Danny O'Donoghue, and will join veteran coaches Sir Tom Jones and will.i.am on the panel.
So far, the show has spawned two winners - Leanne Mitchell and Andrea Begley - who have failed to light up the charts with any musical offerings - and so the shakeup is hoped to breathe some fresh air into proceedings and give the format new wings.
'The Voice UK' returns to screen - with new hosts Emma Willis and Marvin Humes - in the second week of January.
@justinbieber: It’s not your place to judge. God put these people in my life for a reason, and just because they are African American that makes them a bad influence?? These are the people that I love and all of us are going to help make the world a better place. ♛
Justin posted that earlier today on Instagram defending his friends from a fan who is worried that JB is hanging out with the wrong crowd.
The fan never said anything about African American people but we all, including Justin himself, realize that almost everyone he hangs out with now are black.
I’ve said it before and I probably will get some more hate for saying it again but personally I do think the people who he has hanging around him are a bad influence on him. They just happen to be black. Defending friends is good but Justin needs to remember he used to be close friends with Lil’Za and Lil’Twist too, like brothers, and look how that turned out. You can’t trust everybody.
Like the fan above I am worried about him too. Justin made a lot of mistakes in 2013. You don’t make that many mistakes if you have people around you who are looking out for you and your career. These friends of his don’t seem to care if he looks bad. Just saying.
Do you blame him for finally mentioning this after all the thinly veiled racism that has been thrown around ever since he started hanging out with Lil' Twist and Co?

The witching hour has arrived for WGN America.
The Tribune-owned network has released the first footage of Salem, the period drama exploring the town's infamous witch trials.
The drama, which marks WGN America's first original scripted series, stars Nikita's Shane West, Arrow's Seth Gabel (who narrates the teaser, above) and Janet Montgomery and explores the dark, supernatural truth hiding behind the veil of this ignominious period in American history. The witches featured are real, but they are not who or what they seem. The series, centered on an epic romance wrapped around an explosive revelation, delivers a bold new vision of Salem -- and an even bolder new vision of witches.
West plays the male lead, John Alden. He's described as being handsome, tough, pragmatic, wry-humored, not a man to suffer fools, a hardened veteran of 10 years of war and captivity at the hands of the Indians, who returns to his native Salem to find it consumed in witch-hunt frenzy, led by Cotton Mather (Gabel).
A premiere date has not yet been announced for Salem.

Julia Roberts is one of the biggest movie stars in the world — but she values her privacy and prefers to stay out of the public eye. The mother-of-three admits to In Touch that she is thankful for over-the-top TV families like the Kardashians.
“As a film actor, I’m [only] inviting people to pay attention to my characters. But if you’re a reality star, by virtue you are asking and inviting people to pay attention to you,” Julia explains in the new issue of In Touch, on newsstands now. “It’s great because they take that attention away from me.”
She hasn’t ever watched an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, but hasn’t ruled it out just yet. “I think there’s still time,” Julia jokes with In Touch of the famous family’s long-running reality show. “They’re still on TV, aren’t they?”
The actress also reveals that reality TV is one of her guilty pleasures! “I love Project Runway because I love to sew,” the actress admits to In Touch. “I’ve also seen Housewives a little bit.”
In the Parks and Recreation episode “The Cones of Dunshire,” which aired November 21, 2013, Ben Wyatt (Adam Scott) finds himself unemployed for one week and he spends the time “cooking up something pretty big” — namely, the obsessively detailed board game that gives the episode its title. “Presenting ... the Cones of Dunshire, a brand-new gaming experience [for] eight to twelve players,” he excitedly tells his interest-feigning wife, Leslie (Amy Poehler), before rattling off ever-nerdier details about his invention, including its goal (“to accumulate cones: Four cones wins, but in order to get a cone you have to build a civilization ... which is where the Spirit Cards come in”), its hyper-specific character types (“two wizards, a maverick, the Arbiter, two warriors, a corporal, and a ledgerman,” the latter of which merely keeps score while wearing a hat that says Ledgerman), and its many quirks (“the thing about the Challenge Play is that it’s basically the game” — here, Ben opens his hand dramatically to reveal disc-shaped game pieces — “in reverse”).
To build a prop worthy of Ben’s neurotic intensity, the Parks and Recreation producers turned to Mayfair Games, publishers of the meticulously crafted strategy game The Settlers of Catan. In our quest to add more micro oral histories to our theme week, Vulture spoke with Adam Scott, Parks and Recreation honchos, and the Mayfair Games brain trust to find out how the game was dreamed up, whether the cones are, in fact, a metaphor, and if we’ll ever see Ben’s creation in stores.
Who knew Taylor Kitsch was seeing someone?
The 32-year-old Lone Survivor star covers the sixth issue of Man of the World magazine, where he not only revealed that he was seeing someone under the radar—but in doing so, he also admitted that he's recently single.
At the time of his interview, Kitsch was staying his favorite beachside hotel in Santa Monica, Calif., for a week of business meetings. At night, he drove to the Valley to play hockey. "Us Canadians, we find that sh--t," he said of his favorite pastime. "Hockey's like therapy for me. I went through a terrible breakup a while ago and it was the one thing that allowed me to actually not think about it for an hour-and-a-half."
Kitsch played coy when asked about the current status of his love life. "I'm not getting married next year, I'll tell you that much," the former Friday Night Lights star promised. Fair enough.
After top lining two box office disappointments in 2012, it's not too surprising that the John Carter star has his guard up. Still, Kitsch has no regrets about his career choices. "If I even told you who else was trying to get John Carter's role!" he said, though he declined to say who else was in contention.
Battleship, meanwhile, was alluring for two reasons: he would get to reteam with Friday Night Lights executive producer Peter Berg and spend several months in Hawaii playing with real U.S. war ships. "The Navy closed down the USS Missouri for us for two weeks!" he recalled.
Kitsch next stars in HBO's The Normal Heart, a story about the earliest days of the AIDS crisis. He plays Bruce Niles, a closeted Wall Street broker who moonlights as the head of the Gay Men's Health Crisis. He was also asked to star in a TV show this past season—a gig that paid "stupid money," he claimed—but ultimately decided to continue his work on the big screen.
While the actor is taking on meatier roles, it's not because he's trying to distance himself from the failures of John Cater and Battleship. According to Kitsch, "I'll keep swinging for the rest of my career."
The sixth issue of Man of the World hits newsstands on Monday, Dec. 30.
Time to get back with Minka Kelly
The former wife of Beatles star Paul McCartney was accused Thursday of lunging at a Paralympic official in a fit of rage and screaming insults after being forced to abandon her attempt to qualify for the British skiing team for next year’s games.
Heather Mills’ hopes of competing in Sochi ended Monday when the International Paralympic Committee ruled that a new prosthetic she was using hadn’t been ratified by the governing body. An application for a place in Britain’s team was withdrawn.
IPC spokesman Craig Spence told The Associated Press that the 45-year-old Mills “flew into a rage” when she confronted ski committee head Sylvana Mestre at a team captains’ meeting in a hotel in Austria on Monday. She then swore at the official and said “you don’t know who I am, I’m going to make your life miserable.”
“Sylvana is deeply upset, traumatized,” Spence said. “She (Mills) verbally abused Sylvana, and started to push her. There were 10 witnesses in the room who saw what went on.”

Mills will likely be fined up to 1,000 euros ($1,370) and the incident will be referred to the IPC’s legal and ethics committee for its consideration.

No. 14: Lady Gaga - Artpop
There was the Jeff Koons sculpture, the accompanying app, the shape-shifting performances and the outrageous fashion choices, but the heart of Lady Gaga's "ARTPOP" was a collection of 15 vibrant colors that were uniformly unafraid to exist outside the lines. The slinky sex of "Do What U Want," sneering stomp of "MANiCURE" and exotic sensuality of "Aura" all helped to underline Gaga's versatility, as she strode away from her "Just Dance" persona and delved into more complicated musical matters. "ARTPOP" is the statement of a singer-songwriter who wants to be more than a pop artist, and although the extravagant details surrounding the album cemented Gaga's status as a provocateur, she hasn't lost her touch for creating otherworldly hooks. - Jason Lipshutz

How I Met Your Mother is bowing out early.
CBS on Thursday announced that the long-running comedy will wrap its ninth and final season with an hour-long episode on Monday, March 31. Two Broke Girls will take over the 8/7c timeslot in April.
Full release below…
After 208 episodes told over nine seasons, the story of how Ted Mosby ultimately meets his children’s mother will conclude with a special one-hour series finale on Monday, March 31 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT). The HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER finale will be followed immediately by the series premiere of the new comedy FRIENDS WITH BETTER LIVES (9:00-9:30 PM, ET/PT).
Following its special premiere after the HIMYM finale, FRIENDS WITH BETTER LIVES moves to its regular Monday (8:30-9:00 PM, ET/PT) time period on April 7.
FRIENDS WITH BETTER LIVES is about six friends at different stages in their lives—married, divorced, newly engaged and single—who are outwardly happy, but secretly questioning if their friends have it better.
As part of CBS’s new Monday lineup, 2 BROKE GIRLS will move to the 8:00 PM time period on April 14 to lead off the night’s comedy block.
The first episode of The Walking Dead’s second season may only last an hour and a half, but it doesn’t waste a single minute. Within one scene, Telltale will make you feel scared, hopeful, shocked, and repulsed, only to have the next several scenes do the exact same thing.
The episode picks up right where season one left off, following Clementine as she struggles to survive day-to-day. Clementine feels immediately different than Lee did in season one. As a child, Clementine is less sure of herself and more trusting in others, which can lead to precarious scenarios that end up working out as often as they don’t. Seeing Clementine grow so much as person and reflect on past experiences you participated in is one of the strongest elements of the episode.
Like season one, choices are sometimes nothing more than smoke and mirrors, but the way events are constructed ensures you care about what’s happening. Clementine’s life is seemingly always on the line, so even when you’re mashing through a quick time event, it feels vital. Telltale also found new ways to surprise and just when it appears like you have a grasp on what’s happening, the circumstances completely change.
Episode one not only reintroduces us to the world of The Walking Dead, it raises the stakes in such a way that Clementine’s situation is more perilous than ever. We weren’t convinced that season two could eclipse season one, but at least in a few ways, it already has.

20. "Violet & Daisy"
There's nothing worse than a crummy exploitation movie with grander pretensions. And there are fewer crummy exploitation movies that are more pretentious than "Violet & Daisy," which is seemingly about the two chattiest teenage assassins in the history of B-movies. The directorial debut from "Precious" screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher, is slow, clumsy and stagy, with our would-be warriors (Saoirse Ronan and Alexis Bledel) talking their intended target (James Gandolfini, in one of his more inglorious final performances) to death. This movie is a special kind of boring, one in which you can't believe that you're still watching it, even with a relatively brisk runtime of 88 minutes. Brief stylistic flourishes are undone by the hoary, implausible twist at the end and the character work is constantly undermining itself, with these coldblooded killers engaging in infantile games. The movie's supposed outrageousness can't make up for a screenplay more leaden than a whole box full of bullets.

More than 80 people are injured, four seriously, after part of a ceiling in London's Apollo Theatre collapsed during a show, police say.
The venue in Shaftesbury Avenue was packed for a performance of The Curious Incident Of The Dog in the Night-Time.
Eyewitnesses heard "a crackling" noise before the collapse at about 20:15 GMT. Theatre-goers left covered in debris.
London Ambulance said there were 81 walking wounded and that all those who were trapped earlier had been freed.
Some 25 ambulance crews and an air ambulance attended the scene, it said.
London Fire Brigade said four people were seriously injured but none have life-threatening injuries.
It said its "search is now complete" and the theatre has been sealed off.
Eight fire engines and more than 50 fire fighters attended the incident in London's busy West End theatre district, along with hundreds of police officers.
The Apollo's ornate plasterwork ceiling collapsed and brought part of the lighting rig down, it said.
In a media briefing the Brigade said its officers inspected the theatre's roof via an aerial ladder platform that had been raised above the building.

When a hotel maid found Jennifer Lawrence's secret sex toy stash, the actress was incredibly embarrassed.
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" star told Conan O'Brian that a friend gave her a "bunch of butt plugs" as a prank, and was mortified when a cleaning person discovered her X-rated paraphernalia under the bed and placed them on the star's bedside table.
Lawrence joked: "This is actually really funny. Somebody, as a joke, bought me a bunch of butt plugs. It's a really long story! Tons of butt plugs, all different kind of colors.
"And the maid was coming so I was like, 'I'm going to shove this under the bed so she doesn't see all these butt plugs, she might not know they were for a joke', and then I came back and all of them were brought out of the bed and were on this beautiful display on my beside table. I wanted to leave a note like, 'Not mine!'"
The actress said she'd actually enjoy being a maid because it would allow her to snoop on strangers and clean things, which she likes to do.
She explained, "It used to be doctor but I think that's a bit unrealistic. Definitely I would be a hotel maid because that's all my favorite cleaning. I don't like dishes and I don't like the kitchen. I like beds, I like bathrooms and spraying. And going through everybody's stuff everyday there's new people to snoop on, it would be my dream!"
Mike WiLL Made-It has been killing it since 2011, but 2013 was the producer's career-defining year. His steady ascent into super-producer stardom has been fueled with a collection of hits that traverse ideas of what genres should sound like. While Mike WiLL has remained a prominent force in Hip-Hop – working with the likes of 2 Chainz, Drake, Kanye West, and many others – he’s thoroughly dipped his MPC into other sonic ponds. We all know he gave Miley Cyrus’ career some mouth-to-mouth when he exec. produced her album Bangerz – but it was in March that Ciara’s “Body Party” dropped. With its gentle basslines and slippery synths, sampling and riffing on "My Boo" by Ghost Town DJ's, it single-handedly propelled CiCi right back into the conversation, and was arguably the biggest R&B single of 2013. Without Mike WiLL’s soundbed, the track might have never been what it was. He details the song’s journey below.

"You have to pay for food for everyone and I'm not down with that," she says with a laugh. "Everyone is there just to be nosy and see who I'm wearing, you know. I'm okay."
Happy for her, but cackling a bit at this article.
We live in a very uncritical artistic climate. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the nauseating world of music criticism. I've worked in this industry for a little while, and there's a prevailing sentiment that music critics who don’t have anything nice to say shouldn't say anything at all, and that it’s more important to shine a light on the good in the world than call bullshit when you hear it. This is compounded by musicians, who are tiny babies who can't take the slightest criticism, opting for a fantasy world where they've never made a bad song in their entire pointless careers.

Who let you down this year, ontd?
Bonnie McKee covers Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah"
I've been a fan of Bonnie since Trouble, I love her music and voice but her visuals/videos are always so distracting.
Adele has yet another shiny award to add her her growing mantelpiece of accolades. The singer and mum-of-one visited Buckingham Palace to accept her MBE, and judging by the first pictures, could hardly contain her excitement. Adele was awarded the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by Prince Charles, who was standing in for the Queen.
The star wore a gorgeous black and green print long-sleeved prom with black heels and had her hair tied up into her signature sixties beehive, along with a pretty fascinator and face veil. Gorgeous!

There's still a sense that being down with the predatory behavior of guys makes you chill, a girl with a sense of humor, a girl who can hang—
Lena Dunham (@lenadunham) December 16, 2013
The release of R. Kelly’s new CD, “Black Panties,” resulted in a lot of press (and tweets). Not all of it was fawning reviews; Slate ran a piece called “R. Kelly, Terry Richardson, and the Power of the Bankable Creep.” As Slate notes, Kelly “has been accused of raping dozens of teenage girls” and “indicted on child pornography-related charges.” (Kelly was acquitted by a Chicago jury.) He also has recorded a duet with Beyoncé and performed with Lady Gaga at this year’s AMAs.
As their headline suggests, Slate’s Amanda Hess also took on creepster photographer Terry Richardson, the man who recently convinced Miley Cyrus to ride a prop wrecking ball totally nude for a music video. As Slate notes, “[Lena] Dunham has, however, been photographed by Richardson; he is a hipster staple and also her friend.” So, has Dunham compromised her feminist credentials?

While on a visit to Disneyland Paris with a group of under-privileged youngsters and some young carers, the quartet were given pouting tips from Minnie. Posing for a snap with the girls, she instructed them to blow kisses and taught them how to put one leg on show while being photographed.

The Little Mix girls are a little upset by how boring Perrie Edwards has become since she got engaged.
The DNA hitmaker accepted Zayn Malik’s proposal of marriage in August and her bandmates have revealed that she’s like an ‘old woman’ now and rarely joins them on nights out or social events.

Zayn Malik is one fifth of one of the biggest boybands in the world, so it comes as no surprise to hear that the 1D stud doesn't have a lot of spare time. According to his mum, the Bradford-born hottie is still yet to set a wedding date to Perrie Edwards!
In a candid interview with the BBC, Trisha Malik opened up about her son and what she thinks of the Little Mix babe.

the worst two hours in the history of tv
Dr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp) is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him.
However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed—to be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) and best friend Max Waters (Paul Bettany), both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can…but if they should.
Their worst fears are realized as Will’s thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power, to what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him.
The boys performed "Midnight Memories," their next single.
I'm not a Tom Hiddleston fan but he looks pretty darn good here, while Mia = flawless as always.
Taylor Swift vs Tina Fey and Amy Poehler
Actors Tina Fey and Amy Poehler ruffled a few feathers when they poked a little fun at singer Taylor Swift's turbulent love life at the Golden Globes, warning her to "stay away from Michael J. Fox's son."
Swift hit back in a highly publicized interview, reciting a famous quote, "There's a special place in hell for women who don't help other women.'"
In response, Amy subtly mocked Taylor, saying, "Aw, I feel bad if she was upset. I am a feminist, and she is a young and talented girl. That being said, I do agree I am going to hell. But for other reasons. Mostly boring tax stuff."( Collapse )
