Premiere of Interview Magazine Sponsored artist "Dai Burger"

Dai (pronounced "day") Burger is far more than a rapid-fire rapper whose flow vacillates from sexy to sassy to just plain impressive. The Queens native is an entertainer in every sense, and if you've seen her perform at Patricia Field's Fashion Week parties (flamboyant high-fashion outfits and choreography included) or any number of her gigs in the New York area, you're already more than aware of Ms. Burger's rare energy.

Foster the People to Release New Album in 2014

Time to dust off those kicks and pump 'em up.

Mark Foster has confirmed that a new Foster the People album is due in early 2014, along with a new single in January.

"It's not the record that people are gonna expect us to release second. It's definitely an evolution for us, and it's a more polarizing record for us, so I'm excited to see how it's received, for better or worse," Foster told Rolling Stone.

We like our music evolved and polarizing, so we're game.

Additionally, Foster said there won't be as much electronics on the record this time out.

"I went into it wanting to do something more organic and human, because the first record was so electronic and synthetic – in a cool way, I'm not putting it down, that's just what it was," Foster said. "So this record, I wanted to make something more human and let the songs breathe and grow and turn and take left turns and not come back if they want to. It's a brave record."

All good things. We can't wait to check out the result.

Are you excited for a new Foster the People album, based on Mark Foster's teases?

HDD: Beyonce has broken iTunes one week sales record in 3 days.

BEY-TUNES: Beyonce has broken iTunes' one-week sales record in three days, moving more than 618k digital copies of her self-titled "visual album," the explicit and clean versions of which continue to hold the #1 and #2 spots on the online store, respectively. Beyonce also broke the worldwide iTunes first-week record. It's a huge end-of-year coup for Columbia chief Rob Stringer and his team, and for Sony Music ruler Doug Morris, who supported the release plan that the megastar and Stringer developed. ROLa Magazine Interviews Naoko Takeuchi

The third and final part of ROLa Magazine's interview with Sailor Moon creator Naoko Takeuchi and editor Fumio Osano has been released. You can read the first two parts here and here.

Shounen Aya:            It must have been very busy for you during the original serialization.
Osano Fumio:            It certainly was. We used to have meetings that lasted long after midnight back then.
Takeuchi Naoko:       That’s true. Back then I used to go to this bookstore in Roppongi to look at manga to get ideas, and I ended up buying way too much. Even though work was so busy back then, sometimes I got to work on sewing, or I would take off in my car on a drive to Izu…
Aya:    All the way to Izu! That’s a shock… Anyway, 20 years have passed and Sailor Moon still hasn’t gotten stale at all, which is amazing. It’s even still really popular abroad. Have you gotten any surprising offers from fans abroad?
Takeuchi:       There was an offer made from Hollywood to make a movie.
Osano: The truth is it's really hard to make a movie adaptation with Hollywood. It would be almost impossible to do without messing up the original work.
AyaYou mean, they’d make the sailor soldiers all muscle-y, amped up beefcakes?!
TakeuchiYes, exactly.

Shia LaBeouf allegedly plagiarized his apology for plagiarism from yahoo! answers. hmmmT.

Late Monday night, LaBeouf tweeted an apology.

LaBeouf claimed he wasn’t “copying” Clowes, but rather was “inspired” by him and “got lost in the creative process.”

The first part of his apology is very similar to an entry on Yahoo! Answers written four years ago. A user named Lili wrote, “Merely copying isn’t particularly creative work, though it’s useful as training and practice. Being inspired by someone else’s idea to produce something new and different IS creative work, and it may even revolutionalize [sic] the ‘stolen’ concept.”

Kanye does NOT want to make Kim Kardashian the "next Beyonce"!

Even though Kanye West believes he and Kim Kardashian will be more a more powerful couple than Beyonce and Jay Z, has exclusively learned the new mother doesn’t have pop star aspirations, despite numerous reports.
Last week reports surfaced of an interview West did with WGCI radio in Chicago where he was quoted as saying, “I am going to make Kim Kardashian a bigger performer than Beyonce. Me and Kim will soon be the first couple of Hip Hop” — but that interview never happened and the pompous rapper never said that quote.

In a new interview with Saturday Night Online, West denies that Kim would ever want to delve into his industry of music, and Radar has the exclusive video clip.“With ‘Bound 2′ you got to work with Kim. She turns to you and says, ‘I wanna work on music.’ Would you help produce that project?” the host Garrett asks West.“I don’t think she has any desire to do it,” West concedes.

How 2 Friends Started The Most Hilarious Podcast Of The Year By Being Brutally Honest

Over the last year, a pop-culture comedy podcast called "The Read" has garnered the kind of cult following that D-list celebrities and reality show contestants would chew off their left arms off for.

It's hosted by two friends — Crissle and Kid Fury. The show premiered in January, and from then on it was a race to the top.

In what seemed like no time at all, "The Read" made it to #3 overall in iTunes' "New and Noteworthy" section, and peaked at #1 in the comedy section. When iTunes celebrated 100 million podcast subscribers, "The Read" was featured on a page of podcasts that helped get iTunes there.

In short: This show is hilarious, and its listeners are completely addicted.

Now, this is the kind of stuff that goes down on "The Read:"

In a recent episode, a guest on the podcast told a story about Drake (yes, that Drake). He'd been at a strip club in Atlanta and invited the dancers back to his hotel room. Instead of getting a private show, though, Drake gave one. He started playing music for his guests and telling them what he thought about it. The strippers, thinking they were going to get paid, got totally frustrated and left.

As you can imagine, Kid Fury and Crissle immediately lost it.

"I bet Drake got a pair of Uggs," Crissle said between guffaws.

Bo Burnham Put his Comedy Special Online for Free

Bo Burnham is giving away the full-length video of his latest show, What, for free.

The 23-year-old, who shot to fame as a YouTube star, is returning to the channel to distribute the acclaimed show after funding the filming himself.

It will be posted online on December 17, and also made available on Netflix.

Other American comics such as Louis CK and Aziz Ansari have funded their own specials and released them for a modest amount, bypassing the big DVD companies. But Burnham is the first major comedian to release a special for free.

However he may not be the last: Richard Herring is currently filming his own stand-up series at London’s Leicester Square Theatre, Meaning Of Life, and has said he is inclined to release the episodes for free.

In his first YouTube posting for three years, Burnham promoted the new release.

‘They told me to stop chasing my dreams. I didn’t listen,’ he said. ‘They told me to stop chasing random little kids in the supermarket. I did listen and, sorry, again. I won’t do that any more.

Sheriff Don Lamb let go at Y&R!

Looks like executive producer Jill Farren Phelps has struck again: Michael Muhney (Adam) has been let go at The Young and the Restless.

The actor tweeted on Tuesday:

I’m so sorry. It breaks my heart to say this, but I was just let go from Y&R. My last day on set is this Thursday. My last air date will be Jan 30th. I’m going to take some private time with my wife & kids, as I am concerned for their well-being… I have 3 final episodes to film, and because they are my last, I will be giving it everything I have. More details to follow… xoxoxo

Muhney’s exit closes a very critical year for The Young and the Restless as the show has come under fire for most of its casting decisions and storylines: from the exits of Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) and Billy Miller (Billy) to the poor handing of Katherine’s (Jeanne Cooper) memorial service, Nikki’s (Melody Thomas Scott) “battle” with MS, the ill-received Dylan McAvoy (Steve Burton) and the death of a child, Delia Abbott.

“Moving PaleyFest to the landmark Dolby Theatre is an extraordinary testament to the festival’s growth over the years,” said Pat Mitchell, president and CEO of The Paley Center for Media, in a statement. “Hosting PaleyFest at the prestigious home of the Academy Awards is also an acknowledgement of the caliber of programs we showcase and of the wonderful support we’ve received from our network and studio partners, sponsors and the amazing creative talents Paleyfest celebrates year after year.”

Along with the new digs, the fest has announced its first three honorees. One of them, “Veronica Mars,” will open PaleyFest March 13 with a cast reunion, just one day before the “Veronica Mars” movie premieres nationwide.

Confab will close with a presentation of another honoree, “American Horror Story: Coven.” The other announced to be feted is “Pretty Little Liars.”

The full Paleyfest lineup will be announced Jan. 8.

Divergent Director Being Replaced for Sequel

'Divergent' sequel to have different director

“Neil Burger is a rock star and he is doing a fantastic job on Divergent. We can’t wait for you to see the film. But as amazing as Neil is he still cannot be in two places at once and thus needs to finish post production on Divergent while we gear up to start production on Insurgent. So, although Neil will continue on as part of our Divergent family as an executive producer, we sadly have to find another director for the next chapter in Veronica Roth’s fantastic series,” a rep for Summit said in a statement.

After Variety broke the news, Erik Feig, president of production of Lionsgate, hopped on the phone with EW to reiterate that the reason is in no way a reflection on Burger’s work on the upcoming Divergent. “It’s the opposite,” says Feig. “We’re extremely happy with the film Neil has done. He’s delivered an amazing, amazing movie which is really the most important thing. You can’t have a franchise without a successful first film. What Neil has done is the hard part: he cast the movie, he created the world and he set the tone.”

The reason for Burger not returning for Insurgent (slated for March 18, 2015), says Feig, simply comes down to timing. Burger is still working on post-production on Divergent—visual effects, and working with Hans Zimmer (“he wants to do a superhero theme for a woman”) on the score—and would be unable to go into necessary pre-production work on the second film, which would need to begin before he’s even finished with they first film. “This is a critical time,” says Feig. Could he possibly come back to direct the third film, 2016′s slated, Allegiant? “You never know,” says Feig. “We’re not thinking that far ahead. But 100% I will be doing another Neil Burger movie if he wants to.”

Greg Holden - Brand new music video for 'The Lost Boy'

Greg Holden’s poignant song “The Lost Boy” can be traced back to quite a few places. First of all, the New York City resident wrote the song after reading about a Sudanese refugee in Dave Eggers’ book, What Is the What.

“It was so emotional and powerful that I had to write the song. It felt like some sort of duty. I wanted to make a difference after reading the book,” says Holden, who was born in the United Kingdom.

After recording the song in his apartment, Holden sent the track to a DJ friend in Holland, who started playing it to raise money for the Red Cross. And it did, to the tune of $80,000. In light of its success, Holden embarked on a sold-out tour of the country and sang it on a Christmas Eve benefit concert for the Red Cross in front of 10,000 listeners.

In time, the poignant song was heard by U.S. audiences during a key scene on Sons of Anarchy. It’s also featured on the musician’s latest album, I Don’t Believe You.

See the CMT Edge premiere of Greg Holden’s evocative music video, “The Lost Boy.”

Vienna Teng crowd sources a video, excels at everything she attempts, etc.

Vienna Teng has an amazing voice, is a gifted pianist, has an impressive academic background, and now we find out she can dance, too. Her new video absolutely gives me chills -  because of both the lovely, passionate song,  and the inspirational story in the video (which was crowd source funded!) So how did the former computer code writer and current Detroit resident create a video in which she she simultaneously showcases her remarkable vocal and songwriting talents, tries her hand at dancing, and inspires the masses?

It happened because Teng, a Michigan-based singer-songwriter, half-jokingly told director Lawrence Chen she wanted to someday dance in a video, even though she knew she'd have to dance badly, since she didn't know how to dance.  "What Lawrence latched on to me saying was, 'I've always wanted to dance in a video,' " says Teng, 35.

As Teng steps out of the bedroom scene and into the other people's lives, they — and the world — open up to her in surprising ways. And none of those ways is more surprising than what happens when she encounters the young amputee, played by Tommy Guns Ly, a 24-year-old dancer and founder of the ILL-Abilities crew, who lost his right leg to osteosarcoma as a teenager.

"We had talked about telling different stories of what it means to 'level up,' " Teng says. We thought how cool it would be if we had somebody who embodied that in his life, and Tommy was the perfect person. We were lucky to get him."

Teng funded the Level Up video via a Kickstarter campaign, asking her fans to help her raise $20,000 for the production. She ended up exceeding her goal by a factor of four. The experiment in crowd-funding took Teng completely by surprise — not only that she met her goal but that she met it so quickly.

"I launched the campaign as I was getting on a plane," she says. "It was a five-hour flight across the country. When I landed, it had been fully funded. It kind of kept going after that and became this fan game of giving fans things if we hit certain numbers." She eventually had 1,452 backers contribute $82,460, which not only funded the video but an international tour Teng has planned for 2014. "It ended up being this sort of love-letter correspondence between me and my fans."

In Level Up, which appears on Teng's album Aims, released in September, she sings: "Let your faith die, bring your wonder/Yes, you are only one/No, it is not enough/But if you lift your eyes, I am your brother." For Teng, that lyric reflects the need for acting together, even when you don't know how to solve a problem, even when you don't believe the problem can be solved.

"Humanity may let you down; you may let yourself down," Teng says. "That's not important at the end of the day. What's important is that you have a sense of possibility, that you can look around and be amazed at how far we have come, even though we have farther to go."

From Time Out

Please try to post spoilers from the play under a cut in the comments. And I don't mean 400 year old spoilers like "omg ____ dies!", but more production/staging type stuff etc. Any ONTDers going to see this on stage or screen? I've got tickets to see the play after Christmas. So excited.

Pharrell Signs To Columbia Records

Pharrell Williams celebrates yet another win in his already banner year. The Grammy-nominated singer/ producer/ songwriter has signed on to Columbia Records and is already gearing up for his label debut, slated for a 2014 release.

The partnership follows his massive success from contributing to the year's most viral hits, including Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines," Daft Punk "Get Lucky" and his own "Lucky."

“When we excitedly partnered with Pharrell in January of this year, we felt it was his time again,” says Columbia Records Chairman/CEO Rob Stringer. “Since then, ‘Blurred Lines’ and ‘Get Lucky’ have defined pop music in 2013, and now we are preparing to launch Pharrell as a global solo superstar in 2014. ‘Happy’ is just the beginning.”

His happy-go-lucky single, featured on the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack, also boasts the world's first 24-hour music video and will be featured on his Columbia Records' LP.

The (5) Soundtracks Of The Year

Which fresh scores and soundtracks caught our ear during the 12 months just past? It may not have been a vintage period for soundtracks, but any year that boasted efforts from John Williams and Hans Zimmer, had Jay-Z overseeing the soundtrack to an F. Scott Fitzgerald adaptation, Tom Tykwer and Shane Carruth adding the role of composer to already arduous directorial gigs and Danny Boyle reuniting with one half of Underworld can’t be bad.

Inside Lewyn Davis

To some, folk music is a life force, filled with tales of despair and humanity. To others it’s just a lot of songs about how your gal’s 1000 miles away and you haven’t packed enough cheese sandwiches for the journey. The Coens’ folk fable has a foot in both camps – sometimes the music is the joke and sometimes it’s the emotional punchline – and T Bone Burnett-supervised soundtrack is at once a trove of genuine delights and occasionally a bit of a giggle (see: “Outer… space!”). Highlights include Hedy West’s elegiac ‘Five Hundred Miles’, previously sung by everyone from Nick Cave to ‘60s folksters Peter, Paul And Mary, but here with Justin, Stark And Carey doing the honours, while Oscar Isaac’s musical talent shines through in a cover of Dave Van Ronk’s ‘Hang Me, Oh Hang Me’.

Grimes Signs Management Deal with Jay Z's Roc Nation

Grimes released her outstanding 2012 album Visions through Arbutus Records and 4AD, but now she has another influential music company in her corner thanks to a new management deal with Jay Z's Roc Nation label.

Today (December 17), the company tweeted, "Excited to welcome Grimes to the Roc Nation family!" The songwriter's profile page on Roc Nation's website notes that she is currently recording a new album in British Columbia.

Grimes, meanwhile, updated her Tumblr to say, "ive joined the x men."

Note that this is a management contract and not a full-fledged label deal. We're not sure what labels will handle Grimes' next album, but she's still listed as a roster member on the Arbutus and 4AD websites.

In signing with Roc Nation's management wing, Grimes joins artists like Rihanna, Timbaland, MIA, HAIM, Santigold, Shakira, Kylie Minogue, Wale and more.

Britney Spears' Album Flops After Only One Week As It Plummets Down The Charts To #87

Britney Jean only debuted at Number 34, but it's already dropped down to 87 in the Official Albums Chart

Britney Spears will be even more grateful for her Las Vegas residency this Christmas after her new album completely flopped in the UK.

The singer was massive in her heyday, but the British public seem to have totally lost interest after her album dropped to the level we expect from winners of The Voice .

OK, it wasn't quite that bad - but we thought it was just a slow start when her new record debuted at Number 34 a week ago.

Fast forward seven days, and it has absolutely plummeted to a shocking level.

The star's single Work B*tch was her first Top 10 hit since Hold It Against Me peaked one place higher at Number six two years ago, but that success hasn't been able to translate.

In contrast, superstar Beyonce's shock new release as gone straight in at Number five.

Meanwhile, crooner Michael Buble has seen a surge in sales in the build up to Christmas.

After 35 weeks in the chart, his album To Be Loved has climbed from 19 to six, while his festive record Christmas has moved from 10 to seven.

“Kanye has told Kim he will spare no expense to make her look ready to go to a major photo shoot whenever she desires.

"So, Kim’s hair stylist, make-up artist, and stylist all based in Los Angeles, are on call 24/7, ready to get on a private jet to be whisked to her location,” a source told Radar, who added that West has been accompanied by Kardashian and her ever-present entourage on the US leg of his Yeezus tour.

Bill Nighy dreads meeting Britney Spears

Veteran British actor Bill Nighy is glad he has never met Britney Spears at a red carpet event because he still feels bad over a coarse joke he made about the pop star in Love Actually.

Nighy played ageing rocker Billy Mack in the 2003 romantic comedy, and when his character was asked to name his favourite sexual partner in the film, he replies, "Britney Spears... No, only kidding. She was rubbish."

The actor admits he still feels guilty about ridiculing the troubled singer 10 years on, telling Britain's The Guardian, "I... felt bad about the having-sex-with-Britney-Spears gag. Luckily, or unluckily, I've never met her so I've never had to account for myself."
