Phil Collins, the former Genesis drummer whose earnest ballads made him a star in the 1980s, is penning songs again. Although he dreads the idea of extended touring because it would take him away from his five children, Collins says he has missed the creativity of music since he retired in 2010.
Collins spoke in Miami Beach on Wednesday. He was in town to promote the expansion of his nonprofit Little Dreams Foundation, which he co-founded with his now ex-wife Orianne Collins to help youth realize their artistic, musical and athletic dreams.
"I've decided I kind of missed that writing creative stuff, so I'm trying to get back into writing, and that's getting into a certain headspace and personal drive," he said.

It wasn’t a bad year for pop, after all was said and done: At the very least, 2013 was the year that Justin Timberlake returned to the charts with not one, but two albums (one of which was pretty great!), and the One Direction album proved those kids’ mettle as one of the most unexpectedly solid acts cranking out pop-rock tunes, and there were sleeper hits from artists like Lorde and Icona Pop that demonstrated great songs can always triumph on radio, even without a Pitbull radio remix or production from Dr. Luke. But the big divas I love most of all failed me this year with their expensive, hotly tipped albums: They didn’t deliver, plain and simple, and it’s clear to see I’m not alone in that take by how the albums sold and how the critics received them.
Consider four of the biggest pop divas who dropped records this year: Katy Perry, with her Michael Jackson-besting track record as a singles artist; Miley Cyrus, whose reinvention dominated headlines all year long; Lady Gaga, who had heralded ARTPOP as an epoch-defining release; and Britney Spears, who actually didn’t turn out to be up to much after all was said and done but who’s still, y’know, Britney Spears.
Perry notched solid sales with Prism, selling 286,000 copies in her first week of release, while Cyrus trailed close behind with Bangerz, shifting 270,000 units, and Gaga managed 260,000 copies sold. (Poor Britney Jean limped in with just 115,000 copies — the current estimate at the time of this writing.) By comparison, this year, Timberlake sold 968,000 copies of The 20/20 Experience in his first week; One Direction’s Midnight Memories shifted 546,000. Meanwhile, in 2012, Taylor Swift had the best first-week sales of the year with her chart-smashing opus Red, moving a jaw-dropping 1.2 million copies, while Gaga’s Born This Way sold 1.1 million in 2011.

Kanye West has done it again. The controversial rapper told a radio host on Saturday night that during every concert he puts on he’s risking his life — as much as a police officer or someone at war!
Speaking with SaturdayNightOnline.com host Garrett Vogel, West gets into the creativity behind his Yeezus tour, and particularly the mountain piece.“Like, I’m just giving of my body on the stage; I’m putting my life at risk, literally!” West said.“When I think about when I’m on the ‘Can’t Tell Me Nothing,’ and ‘Coldest Winter’ moment, like that mountain goes really, really high. And if I slipped… You never know. And I think about it. I think about my family and I’m like, wow, this is like being a police officer or something, in war or something.” With concerts on his tour scheduled through Dec. 23, West explains he has a job to do and one day he hopes daughter North West will know what he and baby mama Kim Kardashian went through for her. “Like you literally going out to do your job every day, knowing that something could happen. Something can happen to you,” he said.“I’ll explain to my daughter my one day, that me and her mother, we had to fight for this position that we’ll finally have.”The Yeezus tour must be stressful on West, because during a Tampa, Fla., show a couple weeks ago he stopped the show after only three songs, demanding the lights be turned off, spewing an expletive rant at his tech crew and storming off stage.
He eventually returned, but continued to blast the crowd with expletive-filled rants — with one lasting more than 14 minutes.

Check out what Justin Bieber had to say in this new interview with Ryan Seacrest!
The 19-year-old entertainer called in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest on Monday morning (December 9) from Australia to talk about everything from his tour and tattoos to his new song “Confident” and upcoming movie Believe. Check it:
On his new track: “‘Confident’ is really special to me. It’s my single right now. We’re going to be pushing it on radio.”
On his new film: “Believe is about how you get back up when you fall down. What’s going on behind-the-scenes. I’m becoming a man, but I’m still 19. When I have the media attacking me every day. It’s no less bullying than what happens in schools. These people calling me names when they don’t know what’s true or not. This movie really shows who I am as a person.”
On growing up in the public eye: “Of course, I make mistakes growing up, as everybody does. I’m not perfect. I’m not a robot. People forget I’m a human being. I have to make mistakes and grow from it. And that’s what I plan to do. I want to become a young mogul. I want people to respect me, not only for the music, but for making the right decisions. And sometimes you have to make some wrong ones first.”
It was late in the meal when I mentioned his reputation among other journalists. He held his chopsticks in his hand.
“What did they say?”
Steve McQueen is 44 years old, tall and robust; he wore a T-shirt beneath a lightweight sport jacket and dark slacks and large black-rimmed glasses. He is exacting in his ideas, and sometimes struggles to communicate exactly what he’s thinking (he has occasionally borrowed reporters’ pens and paper to help him articulate his thoughts). He is full of energy.
“That I’m difficult?” he asked.
I rattled off some other descriptions: “curt,” “combative,” “volatile,” “scornfully dismissive,” “bullish,” “arrogant.” He pondered it a bit more. He asked whether I had an idea why this reputation exists. I told him I was more interested in his. “It’s journalists getting uppity, and when I get uppity, they write this.” It was an easy caricature: They expect him to be “from the ghetto,” he said, “to behave a certain way.”
“Excuse me for saying it,” he said, “but I suppose it’s because I’m black.”

WHEN Amy Poehler glides into a cozy West Village café on a chilly autumn morning, her entrance has the same effect on the room of adults that, say, Mr. Rogers would've had on a room full of preschoolers. At the sight of the Parks and Recreation star, too-cool-for-school downtowners sit up in their chairs, eyes widen, smiles brighten. Instantly, every person in Poehler's path becomes an audience of one. She shares a quiet joke with the maître d', heartily embraces her publicist and scores a laugh from a passing waiter. They all regard her with a mix of wonderment and happiness.
We're ushered to a table in the back of the restaurant, and Poehler quickly orders her breakfast without consulting the menu. "Everything here's good," she declares. I place an iPhone on the table to record our interview. "Do you need me to hold the phone?" she asks. It's not necessary, I tell her, iPhones are great at recording conversations.
"That's good to know," Poehler says. Her eyes dart around the restaurant, then she leans and whispers, "...for spying purposes."

They've worked out the terms of their settlement, and will announce their split in the next year. They will continue to keep up appearances to give a joint project they're working on a chance for success, but it's pretty much a done deal that their relationship is over, and he's not going back. Based on the memoir by Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, the Peter Berg–directed Lone Survivor follows four Navy SEALs (Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, Ben Foster, Emile Hirsch) trying to stay alive after their location is discovered during a covert mission in Afghanistan. Though Wahlberg is the face on the poster, it's Kitsch who unexpectedly shines: After toplining three misfires last year in John Carter, Battleship, and Savages, he's finally found the right vehicle for his easy, masculine charisma, and as Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, he displays the sort of leading-man potential that many predicted when Kitsch came off a hot run in the TV series Friday Night Lights. Last week, he sat down with Vulture to discuss the next phase of his career (which will include an against-type turn in Ryan Murphy's AIDS drama The Normal Heart) and why he'll never, ever do a Friday Night Lights movie.
What was it like when you saw Lone Survivor for the first time? I know Mark Wahlberg had a very emotional reaction to it at the premiere.
I broke down three times. You just hold all this energy in as an actor, and I didn't truly let it go until then. Knowing all the families and getting to be a part of it and tell the story … yeah, it fuckin' crushed me. That's what takes you out of your head when you're watching yourself. I wasn't there when Ben shot his big scene or when Emile shot his last moments, and it got me. I wasn't ready for it.
You were out there undergoing SEAL training well before production started. Does all the stuff you picked up for the movie stick with you even now?
Absolutely. I was just talking with Luttrell, and we're gonna go hunting on his ranch — I told him, "You give me an M4, I'm gonna be all right." I never thought I would say something like that! I'm Canadian, you know what I mean? That's such an incredible thing about my gig, these tools that you accumulate along the way. And you learn these things from the best of the best.

As proper 'PRISM' single 'Unconditionally' scales Pop Songs, the non-promoted 'Dark Horse,' featuring Juicy J, debuts on the chart
Katy Perry's song "Dark Horse" is living up to its title as a surprise hit at top 40 radio.
Having been released less than two months ago, Perry's No. 1 Billboard 200 album "PRISM" this week yields its third hit on the Nielsen BDS-based Pop Songs radio airplay chart, as "Dark Horse," featuring Juicy J, debuts at No. 40.
Unlike uptempo first single "Roar," which topped the tally for five weeks, and ballad follow-up "Unconditionally," which lifts 10-8 this week (although down seven plays from last week), the moodier, rap-infused "Horse" trots in due solely to unsolicited airplay.
Thirty-nine of the 164 Pop Songs reporters played "Dark Horse" in the Dec. 2-8 tracking week (880 plays, up 38%), even though Capitol Records isn't actively seeking spins for it.
Notably, "Dark Horse" was released as a digital "PRISM" preview track and debuted on the Digital Songs chart at No. 4 the week of Oct. 5. It's sold 785,000 downloads to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan. ("Unconditionally," meanwhile, has sold less than half that sum: 340,000. The set's other preview cut, "Walking on Air," which bowed on Digital Songs at No. 8 with 113,000 the week of Oct. 19, has sold 150,000 so far.)

On Saturday (December 7), celebrities – such as Denise Richards, Tori Spelling, Jensen Ackles, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ali Landry, Busy Philipps, Gilles Marini – and their families attended the 3rd Annual Santa’s Secret Workshop.
Presented by Bill Horn and Scout Masterson (a.k.a. The Guncles) of Marque Communications, the festive event was held at the Andaz Hotel in West Hollywood, Calif. and kicked off Hollywood’s holiday season by bringing celebrities and VIPs together for a day of family fun.
“We love hosting Santa’s Secret Workshop each year because it’s become a way for our friends, and their families, to gather together for the holidays,” Horn tells Celebrity Baby Scoop. “We also love that everyone gets the opportunity to give back by donating to L.A. Family Housing.”
In the giving spirit of the holidays, the event benefited L.A. Family Housing, whose mission is to help families transition out of homelessness and poverty through a continuum of housing enriched with supportive services.
Families were seen visiting with Santa Claus against a winter scene filled with snow. Kids kept busy creating crafts, getting glitter tattoos, and cookie decorating with dessert-ista, Jenny Cookies, who returned for the third year in a row to create the event’s one-of-a-kind sweets.

"We'll find out [in the Christmas special] that Matt Smith is actually the 13th Doctor," showrunner Moffat confirmed to Radio Times. "Although everyone knows that the Doctor can only regenerate 12 times.
"That 12 times limit is a central part of Doctor Who mythology - and science fiction is all about rules, right? So if the Doctor can never change again, what's Peter Capaldi doing in the Christmas Special?"
Moffat also addressed the Doctor's regeneration limit last month - the concept first being established in 1976 adventure 'The Deadly Assassin'.
"[The eighth Doctor] Paul McGann turns into John Hurt so they're not the same incarnation," he said. "He used up another regeneration and I expect he'll be in trouble shortly."

What films are you keeping an eye on, ONTD?
Plans for a Beverly Hills Cop TV series failed after CBS passed on the idea earlier this year, despite word that the pilot tested so well, that it has caused Paramount to put another Beverly Hills Cop movie into development.
News of a 4th BHC movie were first confirmed in July, when it was announced that Eddie Murphy would reprise his role as Axel Foley.
And it now looks like the film is being fast-tracked by Paramount Pictures, in a new 3-year deal the studio signed with super producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
Beverly Hills Cop 4 will be the first project made under this new deal, which brings both Bruckheimer and Paramount together again (they launched the franchise together, along with Bruckheimer's late partner Don Simpson, back in the 1980s).
It's also being reported that Brett Ratner is now attached to direct the 4th film. He last directed Eddie in 2011's Tower Heist.
The story for the 4th film will see Foley returning to Detroit (maybe in a move to help stimulate the economy in that ailing city, and I won't be surprised if the decay is worked into the storyline some how).
And speaking of reboots of Bruckheimer-Simpson-Paramount 1980s hit movies, also under this new deal, the long-in-the-works Top Gun sequel, with Tom Cruise back to star, is also on the table.
Still can't believe CBS passed on a pilot that tested well. Anyhoo, I need to rewatch this series. it used to be my crack back in the but, I can't remember anything about it other than Eddie Murphy is annoying.

Over 4 million viewers tuned into the movie premiere of Being Mary Jane in July of this year. The movie served as a back-door pilot into the series, consisting of eight one-hour episodes that will air on Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. on BET.
The network’s first one-hour scripted drama focuses on the life of successful cable news anchor, Mary Jane Paul (played by Gabrielle Union). Two of her past lovers, Andre (Omari Hardwick) and David (Stephen Bishop) battle for her attention, leaving her to wonder if either choice is the right one. And so are we.
What should we expect when they say theis I-dos? "Small and intimate and nice," Benoist said.
For now, they're looking forward to spending time with family and friends over the holidays, especially with Jenner's baby nephew. "I'm really excited to get to see him a lot for two weeks," Jenner said. "That's going to be awesome."
Benoist said she's hoping Santa brings her another dog (they already have two) while Jenner is wishing for a…mini fridge!

Breaking Bad Writer To Adapt Upcoming YA Novel The Red Queen
Gennifer Hutchinson has won plenty of attention and acclaim as one of Breaking Bad's writers. But with the widely lauded show wrapped, this WGA Award-winner is looking to branch out into film. Variety reports Hutchinson has been hired to by Universal Pictures adapt the upcoming young adult novel The Red Queen into a thrilling fantasy actioner.
The book is the first of a trilogy penned by Victoria Aveyard. While it's not expected to hit bookshelves for over a year, it is already set to be published in 16 different languages including English, Turkish, Russian, Korean, German and French. All this means Universal could have a major hit on their hands if The Red Queen takes off the way publishers seem to anticipate it will.
Here's the book's synopsis:
The Red Queen is set in a fantasy world where society is divided by the color of blood. It features a 17-year-old who, to save her family, must assume the role of a long-lost princess while secretly aiding a revolution.

After eight seasons on Showtime with Weeds, Jenji Kohan is headed for HBO.
The Weeds and Orange Is the New Black creator is developing a provocative period drama for the premium cable network, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The untitled Salem period drama explores the circumstances surrounding one of the most compelling chapters in American history, when intolerance and repression set neighbor against neighbor and led a town to mass hysteria.
Kohan will pen the script with Bruce Miller (Alphas, Eureka) and Tracy Miller. Kohan and Bruce Miller will also executive produce, while Tracy Miller will receive a supervising producer credit. The drama hails from Lionsgate TV, where Kohan is under an overall deal.
For Kohan, the untitled drama comes as production on the second season of critical darling Orange Is the New Black is underway.
The Kohan drama marks the latest studio buy for HBO, which also has Ryan Murphy's sexuality pilot Open (20th Century Fox Television) in the works, as well as forthcoming series The Leftovers (Warner Bros. Television).
Should the Kohan project move forward, Lionsgate TV would have series set up at Netflix (Orange), AMC (Mad Men), Showtime (Nurse Jackie), ABC (Nashville) and History (Houdini miniseries).
Jessica Walter has boozed, cursed and sexed her way through four seasons of one of the most unabashedly raunchy shows on TV. How has she managed to remain sweet, innocent and delightful in real life?
Ignorance, that's how. It truly is bliss.
"I don't understand a lot of the things that are being said, but maybe I'm better off," says Walter, 72, who voices the hard-nosed, sexually blunt and possibly alcoholic Malory Archer on the FX animated series Archer. The show's Season 4 finale makes its Canadian debut Thursday on Teletoon.
Many naughty things have come out of Walter's animated mouth on the adult-oriented, bitingly clever show about the dysfunctional employees of a spy agency. But unlike her younger co-stars - including H. Jon Benjamin (Bob's Burgers), Aisha Tyler (Whose Line Is It Anyway?) and fellow Arrested Development alumnus Judy Greer - Walter doesn't always know what she's saying.
"I just say, 'What does that mean?' And sometimes I say, 'Don't even tell me what it means, just give me a line reading and I'll imitate it,' " Walter says.

The event, which has yet to find a niche in its inaugural year, might as well have been called The 2013 Walking Dead Expo.
But as Pop Expo programming director Cliff Caporale explains, the conception of the event essentially revolved around Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) being able to fit Ottawa in his busy schedule. “We built it around him,” said Carorale.
But the event also gave pop culture nods to Reedus’ 1999 cult film The Boondock Saints and the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. Harry Potter villain Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) and Game of Thrones’ Jason Momoa also gave buzzing fans autographs Sunday.
Caporale hoped for 5,000 people for the two-day expo, which is considerably less than the 20,000 who surprised organizers at the first edition of the Ottawa Comiccon. Should there be a 2014 Pop Expo, he said he wants to focus more on pop culture and less on comic books and superheroes so as not to confuse the two events.
“I think that we need to do a couple things to differentiate it enough so that it’s its own thing,” said Caporale.
So who went?? I did!! lemme see ur pix and photo ops friends!
Yeezus will not tolerate heckling at his shows.
The other night in Tacoma, Washington, he pointed out four particularly rowdy fans and got them kicked out of the show after he saw a business card get thrown on stage from their direction.
"These cubes goin' 20 feet in the air, fam. We risking our lives up here. You can't be throwing shit that we gon slip on," said Kanye before telling security which section had to go.
That'll teach those kids.x

Paris Hilton wasn't the only target of an Internet hoax. This past weekend, Kanye West was quoted as saying "I am the next Nelson Mandela," referring to the former South African President who recently passed due to serious health complications Thursday (Dec. 5), but the statement had no truth.
In a rare timeline appearance, the Yeezus rapper addressed the recent press blitzkrieg:
Respect to Mandela, his family and his legacy.— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) December 9, 2013

The fake quote circulated after The Daily Current posted a fake interview with the Chicago rep. While 'Ye has said in recent interviews that his mother used to nickname him "Mandela," the only revolution this rapper is trying to stir up is in design.
In a bizarre statement that can only be likened to that of Kanye West’s recent rants, R Kelly has likened Chris Brown not just to Martin Luther King, but also to Jesus.
The “Do What You Want” singer, who recently collaborated with Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber, claimed that he empathised with the troubled R'n'B star’s attempts to better himself.
Brown, 24, is currently on a court ordered 90-day live-in stint in rehab, primarily to help him manage his 'anger issues'.
"I only feel sorry for weak people," he told the Guardian’s G2 supplement. “And mostly what I've come to find is that the weak people are the ones that are the haters.
"The ones that's talking about Chris Brown, or R. Kelly, or anybody that's successful? I feel sorry for them, not Chris Brown, because he's obviously one strong individual to be able to do what he's done."
”He got knocked down a little bit and he climbed up. You know, that sounds like Ali to me. That sounds like Martin Luther King to me.
“That sounds like a lot of the greats that have walked this earth. It even sounds a little bit like Jesus to me.”

Eleanor Parker, who was nominated for Academy Awards three times for her portrayals of strong-willed women and played a scheming baroness in The Sound of Music, has died at 91.
Family friend Richard Gale said Parker died Monday morning due to complications from pneumonia. “She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children at a medical facility near her home in Palm Springs,” Gale added.
Parker was nominated for Oscars in 1950, 1951, and 1955, but then saw her career begin to wane in the early 1960s. Her last memorable role came in 1965′s The Sound of Music, in which she played the scheming baroness who loses Christopher Plummer to Julie Andrews.
“Eleanor Parker was and is one of the most beautiful ladies I have ever known,” Plummer said in a statement. “Both as a person and as a beauty. I hardly believe the sad news for I was sure she was enchanted and would live forever.”
