He's the most successful of his seven siblings, but he's not the favorite.

Mark Wahlberg made that admission when he stopped by Live With Kelly & Michael on Wednesday to promote his new film Lone Survivor.

Vampire Weekend Are 2013's Band of the Year

Easier to love and harder to hate, their most thoughtful, least polarizing album is also their best

"I see the narrative that people want to craft: 'Oh these guys started out as a bunch of fuckin' goofballs, and now they're getting into some serious shit,'" Ezra Koenig says. "But that song — the basic idea of that song — existed seven years ago. That was part of us."

That song. "Hannah Hunt." The centerpiece, the presumed statement, the symbol and sound of Vampire Weekend unveiling — as its 29-year-old lyricist, singer, and guitarist jokes — "a side that didn't exist." Four warm, dusky minutes of the long-polarizing New York outfit at its most elemental — just acoustic guitar, upright bass, drums, piano, and the ambient crackle of found sound — and its most confident, as heard best in a thunderclap-like climax that is the product of nearly a decade of workshopping, collaborating, and coming of age.

Born in Koenig's Columbia University dorm room, the song has metamorphosed from acoustic strummer to an electronic burble "that had some lyric about a Volvo" to what you hear now, a country-rock lope blissfully devoid of bookish whimsy and self-satisfied non sequitur, free of guitar sounds or rhythms devilishly plucked from the Third World — that is, free of What We Must Always Talk About When We Talk About Vampire Weekend. Its many bells and whistles do not sound or feel like bells and whistles. It has a meditative mien and a gorgeous melody and simple, elegant architecture. It's thoughtful and measured, as the band's songs always have been, albeit in a far more direct manner than we're accustomed to hearing. "The reason that there's a continuity is because there are some things at the heart of the band that don't change," Koenig says of the progression leading to this year's Modern Vampires of the City, the band's third and finest full-length. "We couldn't have built an album around it back then. But the feelings of that song were always there." And as the song goes, "You and me / We got our own sense of time."

Introducing the 30 seconds to mars award winning documentary

Telling harsh truths about the modern music business, this riveting and award-winning documentary gives intimate access to singer/actor Jared Leto (“Requiem for a Dream,” “Dallas Buyers Club”) and his band Thirty Seconds to Mars as they fight a relentless lawsuit with record label Virgin/EMI and write songs for their album “This Is War.” Opening up his life for the camera during months of excruciating pressures, Leto reveals the struggles his band must face over questions of art, money and integrity.

The documentary features multiple artists besides the band members, Chester Bennington (Linkin Park), Damian Kulash (Ok Go), Serj Tankian (System of a Down), Brandon Boyd (Incubus), Amanda Palmer... Artifact, available on VoD, released December 3rd 2013.

I didn't know how record companies worked before and I never understood how a band who sold million copies of their album can be in debt after that. What was supposed to be a making of the album "This is War" turned out to be the behind the scenes of a jawdropping lawsuit... Just finished watching it and damn, how depressing. If mainstream artist struggle, I can't imagine how it can be for all the artists out there still trying to make their ways in the industry.

Miley Cyrus Is The Worst-Dressed Of The Year... And The Best-Dressed, According To TIME

Just as many expected, Miley Cyrus has been named to TIME's 2013 Worst-Dressed List... and its Best-Dressed List.

And you thought Miley couldn't find more ways to surprise you.

TIME's Best-Dressed and Worst-Dressed lists are just two of the magazine's 54 "Top 10" rolled out today for the end of 2013. The number one pick for best-dressed went to the lovely Jennifer Lawrence, for the gorgeous strapless Dior gown she wore when accepting her first Oscar earlier this year.

The number one worst-dressed star of the year, in turn, recognizes another memorable stage moment: Miley's nude bikini-and-shorts combo at the MTV VMAs. The two-piece, hidden under a bizarre furry-faced onesie, made Britney Spears' flesh-toned two-piece outfit at the 2000 VMAs look tame, especially when accessorized with red lipstick, a suggestively-placed foam finger and a perpetually outstretched tongue.

But Miley came close to redeeming herself months later at FGI's 30th Annual Night Of Stars Gala, where she presented the Superstar Award to Marc Jacobs wearing a slinky aqua Marc Jacobs gown. And she looked, much to everyone's surprise, pretty darn classy.

In fact, Miley wore several surprisingly inoffensive outfits this year. But somehow we doubt anyone will remember them with the VMAs still in their memories...

Simon Cowell Not Allowed To See Girlfriend's Son With Ex-Husband Until 2015.

Just a few months shy of her February due date and in the same week as her baby shower, Simon Cowell’s pregnant girlfriend is officially divorced! E! News reports New York socialite Lauren Silverman and her multi-millionaire husband of ten years, Andrew Silverman, became officially ex-spouses earlier yesterday (December 4). Andrew first filed for divorce this summer.

Lauren received just over $2 million from the settlement, and the couple will share joint custody of their 7-year-old son, Adam, who E! News says will live primarily in New York City. The divorce will also include less traditional stipulations.

Among the reported details from the settlement: Simon will be forced to pay a $50,000 penalty if Lauren’s boyfriend and the father of her unborn son gets anywhere near Adam before January 2015. She could lose custody of her eldest son if she violates this particular clause three times before its expiration date. Andrew must also play by the rules that he can’t “trash Simon to Adam.”

Although just newly divorced, Lauren may not be single for long. Rumor has it Simon is set to propose after their baby boy joins the family. In fact, he may already have the ring.

Snooki Thinks Miley Is Hot & Would Give Santa A Boner.

Does Snooki - Hair Poof + Foam Finger = Miley Cyrus?

The former Jersey Shore guidette certainly thinks so. She loves Cyrus so much that she made a Celebuzz video talking about what she'd get the "Wrecking Ball" singer for Christmas if they were actually best friends.

"I would buy her a best friends bracelet because I feel like we would be best friends," the new mother, 26, said in the video. "Even though she's crazy and a party girl. She's me basically three years ago. That's why I love her. I know exactly what she's going through. The girl just wants to have fun and she's having fun." And to help the former Disney star, 21, "have fun," Snooki has some salacious gift ideas.

"I feel like I would get her a lot of Christmas presents that involve vibrators, some sex toys, and go to a stripper store and buy really hot stripper outfits," she said. "Because she loves being naked, and I love seeing her naked because she's hot. I think she's really hot. I would buy her some tight pleather pants and a spiky bra Madonna style," she said. "She could walk around like that. Maybe sit on Santa's lap, give Santa a boner. She could twerk on Santa. Whatever she likes to do, she can do because she's Miley Cyrus."

Madonna is a Cool Mum

Admittedly we'd probably be mortified if our mothers flashed their crotches and danced around in six inch heels but it looks like Rocco Ritchie doesn't have that problem.

The reigning Queen of Pop - sorry Gaga! - posted a picture of her dancing with her son on her Instagram account and she looks awesome dressed in a simple religion-inspired t-shirt.

Madge recently made a brief return to Twitter in October to promote her secret project that was revealed to be a short film to promote Art for Freedom.

It's described as a "global digital initiative committed to bringing awareness to human rights violations."

So basically it's a big PR stunt but with a nice aim.

Madonna recently showed us all that she's still got it - or at least the earning power by topping Forbes magazine's highest-paid musicians list ahead of her rival Lady Gaga and a whole host of other global singers.

The Material Girl topped the list after earning $125 million between June 2012 and May 2013, boosted by her sell-out MDNA tour which grossed a massive $305 million.

Taylor Swift in Sydney: called out for short setlist, talking too much

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Reviewer rating
3.5 out of 5

3.

December 4, Allianz Stadium, Moore Park

To fill a stadium, a proper pop superstar needs more than merely 40,000 die-hard fans. He or she also needs to have an appealing personality, a heap of irresistible anthems and enough slick visuals to make those who have come to see them feel like they've got their money's worth (not to mention to keep them engaged while they wait for them during costume changes and the like). A bit of genuine musical talent doesn't hurt, either.

American phenomenon Taylor Swift, 24 next week yet already a seven-year music-industry veteran, displays all of these qualities during her tour for current album Red – including the talent – yet weighs down what could have been a perfect stadium pop show by stretching barely an album’s worth of material (most of Red, including some of its weaker tunes, plus a handful of oldies) over nearly two hours.

For seemingly every other opportunity Swift takes to display her redoubtable skills on banjo (Mean), piano (All Too Well) or even just with melody (We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together) she seems to have a long speech to make on the hardships of love and how she pours her wealth of experience into her songwriting. Did we mention she’s 23?

Of course, to her fans, many of whom got to stay up way past their bedtimes with their long-suffering parents to see this show, Swift is a fountain of knowledge. And, more importantly, she does connect with just about all 40,000 of them, be it via sweetly handing her trilby to a disbelieving fan in the front row or performing a mini-set on a stage at the back for the fans in the (still not that) cheap seats.

She has seamlessly made the transition from country sweetheart to teen-pop titan and it’s hard to argue with the inventive, dubstep-infused I Knew You Were Trouble or the rousing You Belong with Me, which shows off her strong voice as well her guitar playing.

Yet for all her abilities and well-studied stadium techniques, there remain, tellingly, a few things for her to learn. Next time Swift could really cause some trouble.

Jameis Winston Will Not Be Charged With Raping FSU Student.

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston will NOT be charged with a crime stemming from allegations he raped an FSU student back in 2012. The announcement was just made by State Attorney Willie Meggs, who said, "No charges will be filed against anyone in this case."

Meggs said there were "several people in the room" when the incident happened. Meggs also said there was a 2ND MAN'S DNA discovered... insinuating the accuser slept with another person around the time she had sex with Jameis. Meggs said the 2nd man's DNA belonged to an unidentified person.

Meggs said the timing of the case was NOT drivin by the FSU football schedule. Meggss aid the case would've gone a lot better if "we all would have gotten involved earlier." Meggs said the accuser's blood alcohol level was .04 at the time it was taken which Meggs described as "not very high."

Meggs says the State Attorney will NOT investigate the Tallahassee PD, though he did admit things might had gone differently had they known about the case earlier. He also criticized the police for not interviewing more witnesses in the aftermath of the incident.

The artist who says she’s Andy Warhol’s cousin and claims Kanye West hired her to paint Kim Kardashian ... may be trying to have her own 15 minutes of fame … because Kim says she has no clue who the woman is.

Warhol says she’s already created 9 different Kim paintings ... and says her pieces generally sell for $20K to $70K apiece.

But sources close to Kim tell TMZ … she’s never heard of the woman … and thinks the whole thing may be a scam or a way for Warhol to get publicity – her 15 minutes of fame.

When we called Warhol back, she gave us an explanation for why she's being rebuffed by Kim & Kanye ... she thinks the painting may have been intended as a surprise gift ... and now that the surprise has been ruined ... K&K don't want it.

Warhol says if this deal falls through, she’ll put the artwork up for sale to anyone who wants to buy it.

Tegan and Sara say Miley Cyrus is 'this generation's Madonna'

Sara Quin of Tegan and Sara has praised Miley Cyrus, calling the pop star "this generation's Madonna".

Cyrus, who released her second solo album 'Bangerz' in October, has had a controversial 2013. In August, Cyrus twerked on stage at the MTV VMAs with Robin Thicke and subsequently clashed with Sinead O'Connor after the Irish singer warned her not to let the music industry "prostitute" her.

Speaking to NME in this week's issue, which is available digitally and on newsstands now, Sara Quin shows support for Cyrus and claims that the pop star's body confidence "terrifies" her critics. "The controversy around her shouldn't distract from her being a quintessential pop star," says Quin.

"She's this generation's Madonna - a hugely talented pop star with agency over her body and sexuality, which terrifies people. And she's constantly switching up between sounds. 'Bangerz' is part electro, part country, part rap, all incredible."

It was recently reported that Cyrus is leading Time magazine's Person of the Year poll ahead of NSA leaker Edward Snowden and The Pope, with 24 per cent of all votes cast.

Brace Yourselves for the Jennifer Lawrence Backlash

Screen Shot 2013-12-05 at 3.31.23 PM

You know that saying about how if you want something to happen, then put it out into the universe? I'm here to plead to the universe—or the pop culture blogosphere—to quit actively wondering when the Jennifer Lawrence backlash will start, because if you discuss the possibility out loud, you basically guarantee that it'll happen.

Still, I can't resist tempting fate myself, since what the predictors say is interesting. For instance, there's Salon's Daniel D'Addario, who lists the signs that a J. Law backlash is a-brewin':

Though Lawrence seemed to have won the PR battle with Joan Rivers when the comedian called her arrogant, Rivers's may come to be the majority view, if history is guide. Just look at how narrowly Lawrence seemed to escape awards season last go-round — with people coming out of the woodwork to snipe at her apparent "wardrobe malfunction" at the Screen Actors Guild Awards (when her couture dress fell as it was designed to) and her joke about beating Meryl Streep to a Golden Globe. Another go-round will bring out those waiting for her to put a foot wrong.

Then there's Vulture's Jordan Hoffman, who wonders when people will see through Lawrence's seemingly effortless and authentic charm on the press junket:

In effect, Lawrence is giving the people what they want — by reminding us that what we want is bogus. And all it takes to do that is to be someone who colors just a tiny bit out of the lines. Her talking points are "no talking points." She'll interrupt a ludicrous red-carpet double-team from both MTV and VH-1 by talking about how much she wants to eat French fries. She'll answer a question about "the process" by which she gets dressed by shrugging and saying she got dressed. Ultimately, she soldiers on, despite the knowledge that a backlash is waiting somewhere off in the distance, just out of sight: "I feel like I'm becoming way too much,"she said recently."Everybody is very fickle. They like me now, but I'm going to get really annoying really fast. Just watch."

Life of Pi writer David Magee has been tapped to adapt The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair, which is being produced by The C.S. Lewis Co. and The Mark Gordon Co.

"I have always loved The Chronicles of Narnia, and I endlessly imagined myself finding my own passage into Narnia someday," Magee said. "All these years later, I'm getting to fulfill that wish just a little bit by writing the film adaptation of The Silver Chair and could not be more excited about it."

Mark Gordon and Douglas Gresham are producing alongside Vincent Sieber, who is the Los Angeles-based director of The C.S. Lewis Co. Michele Wolkoff and Sara Smith will oversee for The Mark Gordon Co.

The first three Narnia films combined have grossed more than $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office. Walden Media, which financed the first three films, is no longer involved with the franchise.

The last film in the series, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, was released in 2010 and earned $416 million.

The seven C.S. Lewis novels that make up the series have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide, Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia began with the publication of The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe in 1950.

Magee's critically acclaimed work includes his 2012 screen adaptation of Yann Martel's novel Life of Pi, which earned him an Oscar nomination for best adapted screenplay. He was also nominated for an Academy Award for his work on Finding Neverland.

What You Don't Know About The Sound of Music

uggwr4

Right alongside whiskers on kittens and warm woolen mittens, The Sound of Music is one of my favorite things, and arguably the best musical of all time. What's not to love? You have Julie Andrews in her prime, Christopher Plummer at his most smoldering, children singing and dancing while wearing curtains, epic Austrian landscapes, automobile-sabotaging nuns, and so on. These are just a few of the reasons why the 1965 classic lives on almost 50 years after its release and why a live performance based on the Broadway version starring Carrie Underwood is premiering on NBC tonight. To get ready for your reunion with the musical gem, here are some little known facts about The Sound of Music!

Katie Lowes Teases Huckleberry Quinn's Torturous Episode and the World's Most Awkward Lick

Forget the glasses, just pop a straw into your favorite bottle of vino because tonight is the beginning of the epic two-episode midseason finale and it's about to get all kids of crazy for one particular OPA team member. When we last saw Quinn (Katie Lowes), our darling double agent, she walked into her apartment to find Huck (Guillermo Diaz), a tarp and his trusty toolbox ready to ask her about her B613. And by ask, we mean torture the crap outta her!

To get you pumped up for tonight's sure-to-be mind-blowing episode of Scandal, we just got off the phone with Katie Lowes and she promised us that this is one hour of television that you most certainly cannot miss. From Quinn's dabble in the dark side to the highly anticipated (and extremely awkward!) lick to the face, read on for all the exclusive (and scandalous!) details…

What can you tease about tonight's all new episode "YOLO"?

Katie Lowes: Well, Quinn has got gotten herself in a real pickle, but I mean come on, she hasn't done anything! I'm sure you've seen the promo for tonight, which shows Huck's nice and long lick onto Quinn's face. All I can say is that nothing is as it seems and what's great about this show is that everything you think is going to happen is not what happens. So I'm just so excited to read my Twitter feed tonight, I just can't even tell you.

Gus Van Sant's Psycho just turned 15 and is more fascinating than you remember

Fifteen years ago (December 4, 1998) an unusual movie was released, and roundly rejected: director Gus Van Sant's offputtingly faithful remake of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. Fresh off the critical and commercial success of Good Will Hunting, Van Sant could've tried for another feelgood hit or a high-profile for-hire gig. Instead, he cashed in all his mainstream chips to not only put his hands all over an untouchable classic, but to do it in the strangest way: He used the original script with only minor modifications, he rerecorded the same score, and, in many scenes, he even mimicked Hitchcock's compositions and camera moves, causing his Psycho to be labeled a "shot-for-shot remake," though that's an exaggeration.

American Horror Story: Ryan Murphy on chopping off [Spoiler]'s head and even more Stevie Nicks

It was teased on EW’s recent American Horror Story: Coven cover but last night we saw [Spoiler!]Madame LaLaurie (Kathy Bates) literally lose her head. Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett) lopped off her archenemy’s noggin and sent it in a box to Fiona (Jessica Lange), payback for the death of her minotaur boyfriend. But that was just the tip of the iceberg in terms of dramatic events. Joan (Patti LuPone) gave her son a toxic enema. Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe) cut out the heart of a homeless man. And Fiona wore some really fabulous turbans.

Well people die on the show and come back to life on the show all the time. Are these more concrete deaths?
Well if you die you want to die near Misty Day. If you don’t have Misty Day around and that’s not one of your powers, you’re kind of f***ed. So yes some of them die and don’t come back.

I was on set for this episode and I heard some actual witches came in and helped with the choreography for the Sacred Taking.
Yeah. We’ve had some very interesting advisors on the show to say the least.

Nicole Kidman reveals she was haunted by ghosts on the set of The Railway Man

Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth stood by the cutting at Kanchanaburi in Thailand — site of the infamous Death Railway — lost in a moment of reverence.

A lifetime ago, during World War Two, Allied soldiers — mainly British and Australian — cut through the malaria-infested jungle and rocks in order to construct a bridge across this ravine. Many died as a result of the fierce heat, harsh conditions and cruelty of their Japanese captors.

One of the those who survived was Eric Lomax, a Scottish-born second lieutenant. For years, he was haunted by what happened but wouldn’t speak of it — until he married Patti, who helped him fight the demons that gave him sleepless nights.

'Transformers: Age Of Extinction,' Mark Wahlberg Says He's Signed For 3 Films

www.indiewire

Despite saying last summer that "Transformers: Age of Extinction" would be his last at-bat, it seems Michael Bay's having a great time o set and may have changed his mind about walking away from the hugely successful franchise. And he may not be alone in continuing the saga of giant robots and rampant product placement.

In an interesting roundtable discussion THR held with some notable producers behind awards contenders, Mark Wahlberg talked about the difficulties of signing up actors and renegotiating as a franchise gets successful. While the actor-producer at first explained all the problems getting the "Entourage" movie off the ground - "Everybody's saying it was all about money. It wasn't, necessarily" - he also talked about his own experiences as an actor at the mercy of other producers, saying "You know Transformers," I definitely had to sign up for three. Does that mean we'll make three? No, it doesn't."

But if the reboot proves successful - and really, why wouldn't it? - Paramount will no doubt push for a fifth "Transformers' and Bay wouldn't be too opposed to coming back, coyly telling Empire, "Well, it's a director's world... It's a franchise world at the moment. You know, Peter Jackson is still in Middle-earth..."

Jeff Koons Meets Music Prodigy North West

Jeff Koons has immortalized some pretty famous pop culture icons in his art — the most recent being Lady Gaga — so when he met baby North West at Art Basel in Miami Beach Thursday (December 5) we couldn't help but wonder: Will not-America's baby be next?

Art fest Art Basel is currently in full swing and, according to Kim Kardashian's Instagram, her and Kanye's baby North West is already mingling with luminaries. She snapped the above picture of North mugging next to artist Jeff Koons, who designed Lady Gaga's ARTPOP album cover as well as a massive statue of the singer.

The caption on the photo? "Art lessons!" Perhaps Koons will teach North all about the "transcendent" quality of the gazing ball, as he explicated once to MTV News.
