Sales of TLC's '20' Surge by 200%

TLC's new greatest hits album "20" is set to fly into the top 20 of the Billboard 200 chart next week.

Industry sources say the set might sell around 15,000 to 20,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, Oct. 27. That could represent at least a 200% gain over last week's sales, when it debuted at No. 72 with 5,000 sold (according to Nielsen SoundScan).

The gain was triggered by VH1's premiere of its biopic "CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story" on Oct. 21. Its bow scored nearly 4.5 million viewers, according to Nielsen, making it VH1's highest-rated original movie ever.

According to VH1, "CrazySexyCool" is also the No. 1 original cable movie of the year among adults and women 18-49. It also logged a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demo.

"20" was released on Tuesday, Oct. 15, and features 13 previously-released hits, along with one new song, "Meant to Be." The act was last in the top 20 with 2002's "3D" album, which debuted and peaked at No. 6 on the Nov. 30, 2012 chart.

LIVE Hobbit fan event on November 4 with PJ and cast!

‘Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug’: Peter Jackson plans fan celebration

“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” director Peter Jackson has announced plans to preview footage from the new film at a “global fan celebration” that will be simulcast in theaters and feature interviews with cast members including Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace and Luke Evans.

The event will take place Monday, Nov. 4, with Jackson and cast members gathering at satellite-linked theaters in Los Angeles, New York, London and Wellington to screen footage from the Dec. 13 release and answer questions in front of a live audience.

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper will host the event from New York, where actors Richard Armitage, who plays dwarf Thorin Oakenshield, and Bloom, who is set to reprise his “Lord of the Rings” role as Legolas Greenleaf, are set to appear.

Lilly, who plays a new elf named Tauriel created for the film, will attend the event in L.A. London will host Pace (the Elf King Thranduil), Evans (Bard the Bowman) and Andy Serkis, Gollum performer and second-unit director.

Jackson will be beamed in from New Zealand.

Audiences in Brussels, Hamburg, Madrid, Mexico City, Miami, Paris, Rome, Sydney and Toronto will be able to buy tickets to watch the footage and interviews live in theaters, and the event also will be streamed live online. (The online version will include an edited version of the new footage from the film.)

“The Desolation of Smaug” is Part 2 in Jackson’s new Tolkien trilogy, and the film picks up where last year’s box-office hit “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” left off, with hobbit Bilbo (Martin Freeman), wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and Thorin’s company continuing on their quest to help the dwarfs reclaim the treasure buried under the Lonely Mountain.

Like its predecessor, “The Desolation of Smaug” was shot in 3-D at 48 frames per second and will be released in 2-D, High Frame Rate 3-D, other 3-D formats and IMAX.

Details on locations, timing and how to sign up for a chance to join one of the many simultaneous events can be found at TheHobbit.com and on Facebook and Twitter (Twitter.com/TheHobbitMovie), under the global hashtag #hobbitfanevent.

‘Treme’ star Robert Brown alleges racial profiling by Macy’s

A black actor on the HBO drama series “Treme” said in a lawsuit on Friday that he was stopped because of his race while buying sunglasses at Macy’s — the third discrimination allegation made this week by a black shopper against a department store.

Robert Brown, who filed the lawsuit in state Supreme Court in Manhattan, said he was detained by police at the flagship Herald Square store on June 8 after employees contacted authorities about possible credit card fraud.

Children's Hospital Performs Katy Perry's 'Roar'

"This week, Katy Perry released her new album, 'Prism,' but the pop star may be getting out-shined.

That's because patients, parents, doctors, nurses and even administrators at the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock released their own inspiring cover of Perry's hit single, "Roar" -- and they've got us all choked up.

The heartwarming clip features grade-A lip synching, dancing from people of all ages and, of course, lots of roaring.

"Please share this video directly from the kids and staff," the hospital wrote on Facebook. "It means a lot to the families and CHaD community who work to keep these kids roaring."

Marcia Wallace of Simpsons, Newhart, and Full House fame, dead at 70.

From TMZ:

Marcia Wallace -- who voiced Edna Krabappel on "The Simpsons" -- died last night in Los Angeles ... TMZ has learned.

Marcia's caregiver tells us ... the actress passed away at home with her family by her side.  We're told she had been sick for the past few months ... but the caregiver couldn't go into specifics.

Wallace has been on TV since the 70's -- and spent 3 decades on various game show panels like "Hollywood Squares", "The $25,000 Pyramid" and "Match Game" ... as well as receptionist Carol Kester on "The Bob Newhart Show."

The actress was also a huge activist for breast cancer ... after being diagnosed with the disease in 1985.

She was 70.

The story broke early this morning/late last night on Reddit. Took a while for sources to start finally cropping up. She will be missed. I also wonder if the character death they alluded to about a month ago will be Ms. K., due to her having been ill for quite some time.

Jenny, Strax and Vestra Will Probably Be 12's Companions Because Moffat Hates You

The three actors who helped make Matt Smith's last season of Doctor Who sometimes more like Scooby Doo are to return to the show next season alongside Peter Capaldi as the next incarnation of the Doctor.

Dan Starkey, who played the comedy Sontaran wet nurse Commander Strax, and Catrin Stewart, the actress behind the Victorian maid Jenny Flint, told Stuff they had heard showrunner Steven Moffat wanted them to return to Doctor Who. The third member of the trio is Silurian sleuth Madame Vastra, played by Neve McIntosh.

"I have not heard anything official," said Stewart, in Auckland with Starkey for the Armageddon Expo. "Apparently Steven Moffat announced at ComicCon that we would be coming back for the new series. It's great because there's always a chance we could come back."

Starkey, who has also appeared in a handful of Doctor Who audio serials recorded by Big Finish Productions and in former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies' Wizards Vs Aliens, is confident the trio will return. "You have not seen the last of us," Starkey said. "I think it's (filming) is in the New Year. I went to the wrap party for Matt's (Smith) final episode and it was a bit like 'the king is dead, long live the king'."

Producer Wants Queen Meryl Streep, Cameron Diaz & Milla Jovovich for 'The Expendabelles'

As The Expendables 3 continues production, producer Avi Lerner and his Millennium Films banner are rounding up a different version of the action ensemble, but this time it will be a whole crew of women called The ExpendaBelles. This is separate from the project that producer Adi Shankar is putting together with Gina Carano and Katee Sackhoff, and the cast is much more recognizable. Speaking to a Bulgarian newspaper (via Deadline), Lerner said that he was currently in talks with Milla Jovovich and Cameron Diaz to take roles, which makes sense because they've done action. But he also mentioned Meryl Streep.

Frankly, it's not that unreasonable of an idea. After all, if Helen Mirren can be a bad ass in the RED series, why can't Meryl Streep kick some asses too? Previously she did The River Wild, but hasn't really gone back to action since then. Legally Blonde writers Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith are behind the script, so we might be looking at something a little more lighthearted and comedic as opposed to a straight-up action bonanza like The Expendables. Obviously, that action franchise is funny too, but just because it's so over-the-top silly with machismo.

Anyway, we'll see if this cast actually assembles for the film and who else gets involved. But since Lerner mentioned the likes of Harrison Ford and Wesley Snipes for The Expendables 3 when the second film hadn't even hit theaters yet, and they ended up being in the third film, we're pretty sure he can get what he wants. This also explains why Jovovich isn't in The Expendables 3 after all. Surely calls have to be made to Sigourney Weaver and Uma Thurman, right? Who else? A female director is being sought, so hopefully we hear more about this project soon.

ugh yaaaas, I wanna see Queen Meryl wielding AK47's and rocket launchers!

Condé Nast ends internship program, former interns share their thoughts

For Lauren Indvik, a business editor and soon-to-be co-editor in chief at Fashionista, the 2008 internship at Vogue was worth every sacrifice.

The 15 pounds frantically lost in the weeks before the interview. The predawn drive from New Hampshire to Times Square. The bed shared with a fellow penny-pinching friend near Pennsylvania Station, and the morning and evening walks — in heels — because she could not afford subway fare. “It’s so valuable,” she said.

So it was with a measure of shock and dismay that Ms. Indvik greeted the news on Wednesday that Condé Nast was closing down its internship program. A spokeswoman for the company, whose publications include The New Yorker, Vanity Fair and Vogue, confirmed that the program would end, but said current interns would not be affected.

Niall Horan: 'I wish fans would talk, not just scream'

The singer admits to getting tired of all the constant screams and told The Sun: "I wish when fans get 20 seconds with you, they would just sit and have a quick chat rather than just go, 'Arrggghhhh, arrggghhhh!' in your face.

"I just want to have a chat with them and hear what they have to say."
One Direction recently premiered their new single 'Story of My Life' online.

The single comes from their upcoming album 'Midnight Memories', which will be released on November 25 and a day later in the US.

Niall also admitted this week that him and band member Harry Styles are not huge fans of clubbing and prefer to stick to pubs. Niall told Bliss magazine: “I never go out! I only go to the pub. I never go out clubbing!”

He added: “I hate clubs, you can’t even talk to anyone. You have to shout at them!”

Harry then added: “And there’s sticky tables!”

Jay-Z Responds to Demands to Drop Barneys Collab after Racial Profiling Accusations

This collaboration lives in a place of giving and is about the Foundation. I am not making a dime from this collection; I do not stand to make millions, as falsely reported. I need to make that fact crystal clear. The Shawn Carter Foundation is the beneficiary and the foundation is receiving 25% of all sales from the collaboration, 10% of all sales generated in the store on November 20th and an additional donation from Barneys. This money is going to help individuals facing socio-economic hardships to help further their education at institutions of higher learning. My idea was born out of creativity and charity… not profit.

I move and speak based on facts and not emotion. I haven’t made any comments because I am waiting on facts and the outcome of a meeting between community leaders and Barneys. Why am I being demonized, denounced and thrown on the cover of a newspaper for not speaking immediately? The negligent, erroneous reports and attacks on my character, intentions, and the spirit of this collaboration have forced me into a statement I didn’t want to make without the full facts. Making a decision prematurely to pull out of this project, wouldn’t hurt Barneys or Shawn Carter, but all the people that stand a chance at higher education. I have been working with my team ever since the situation was brought to my attention to get to the bottom of these incidents and at the same time find a solution that doesn’t harm all those that stand to benefit from this collaboration.

I am against discrimination of any kind, but if I make snap judgements, no matter who it’s towards, aren’t I committing the same sin as someone who profiles? I am no stranger to being profiled and I truly empathize with anyone that has been put in that position. Hopefully this brings forth a dialogue to effect real change. – Shawn “JAY Z” Carter

How PR missteps nearly ruined 'Teen Wolf' fandom

Last summer, Teen Wolf’s PR team earned themselves a lot of positive fandom karma by releasing a video of two of the lead actors cuddling on a boat. The video was a reference to the popular fanfic ship of Stiles and Derek (Sterek), and fans were overjoyed to see a male/male pairing being acknowledged by the show’s creators.

In hindsight, this may have been the beginning of the end for the close relationship between Teen Wolf’s official social media presence and the enormous fanbase the show has accrued online.

"Lorenzo's Oil" creator Augusto Odone dies

Augusto Odone, a former World Bank economist, defied skeptical scientists to invent a treatment to try to save the life of his little boy, wasting away from a neurological disease, and to give hope to other children afflicted with the same genetic defect.

Odone, 80, died on Thursday in his native Italy, five years after the death of his son Lorenzo, who astonished doctors by surviving decades longer than they predicted.

The concoction, derived from natural cooking oils, became known as Lorenzo's Oil, which was also the title of a movie depicting the relentless efforts by Odone and his late wife, Michaela, to try to find a cure.

Cristina Odone told The Associated Press on Friday that her father had died in Acqui Terme, a town in northwestern Italy in the area where he grew up. She said he had lived for many years with a series of medical problems and had died of organ failure precipitated by a lung infection.

"What was so remarkable about my father is that he would never accept a death sentence, either for his own son or for himself," she said. "He was supposed to die eight years ago, six years ago, four years ago. Till the very end, he would not accept either medical wisdom or a death sentence that nature would impose."

In the 1992 film "Lorenzo's Oil," Nick Nolte played Odone, while Susan Sarandon played his wife.

Seth Meyers and Alexi Ashe's Wedding on Martha's Vineyard

Sean Hayes Says NBC Is To Blame For His Sitcom’s Ratings

Sean Hayes seems to be blaming NBC — or more specifically, the network’s lack of overall viewers — for his sitcom’s less-than-stellar ratings.

"To me, [the show] is working....Even if I wasn’t on the show, it’d be the funniest sitcom, to me, on the air right now.....I watch it and go, ‘Well, this is really f–king funny. I wouldn’t change anything right now, I think it’s all working.”

Why Is Chris Hemsworth Shirtless In 'Thor: The Dark World'? He Asked The Same Thing

Skärmavbild 2013-10-26 kl. 18.35.54

Being an on-screen superhero isn't as easy as just standing around in a cool costume and beating up the occasional bad guy. As Chris Hemsworth learned while filming "Thor: The Dark World," sometimes you have to show a little skin to please the boss.

When MTV News spoke with Hemsworth during a press day for the upcoming Marvel movie in London, we had to ask him about a rather gratuitous shirtless scene near the beginning of the film, where Thor reflects on a successful battle with a quick splash of water on his bare torso.

Though it could have been confused as pure fangirl service, the scene was actually the brainchild of Marvel consigliere Joss Whedon, who thought the movie was missing a little something special.

"That [scene] kind of came from Joss actually. He just said that there needed to be something romantic in there," Hemsworth said. "Then he said, 'Chris, get your shirt off.' I said, 'Well, I don't know. What's the why? What are we doing?' The justification was that it was him coming home from battle, washing blood off his hands. It is what it is. How to weigh into that without sounding like an idiot?"

Avril Lavigne ft. Marilyn Manson - Bad Girl

Pop rocker Avril Lavigne's new song "Bad Girl" surfaced on Friday. On the twisted rock track, Lavigne teams up with industrial metal artist Marilyn Manson.
Lavigne's self-titled album will be released next month and every song released from it so far has offered a different sound. Now fans can listen to her Marilyn Manson collaboration "Bad Girl". This song might be the best yet from her new record.
Manson opens the track saying, "Just lay your head in daddy's arms / You're a bad girl." Lavigne rides out the dark rock track, playing up that bad girl persona when she sings, "Stroke me because I said so / Stroke and feed my ego / I've been a bad girl." Manson's vocals back Lavigne for the most part on the synth-y and distorted track. The collaboration is surprising but the two artists are really good at being bad together.
Lavigne's self-titled album will be released on November 5.

Miley Cyrus to get paid 500k a night on upcoming tour

Rival concert promoters are taking the gloves off, going all out to win pieces of Miley Cyrus’ global tour.

Live Nation won Round 1 after it agreed to pay the 20-year-old twerker upward of $500,000 a night, according to sources. That was a little too rich for Phil Anschutz’ AEG Worldwide.

Sources say AEG couldn’t see a way to make the US leg of the tour profitable, given how high the bids went.

Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino clearly has a different view of the tongue-wagging Cyrus’ marketability.

But there’s still Round 2: The Europe tour. And the fierce rivals are working hard to win the hot former “Hannah Montana” star.

Cyrus has been a lightning rod for many music lovers after her radical transformation from squeaky-clean child star to down-and-dirty rocker.

The Evolution Of Liam Payne: From Awkward Teen To Hot Hunk

With Harry Styles hogging the limelight when One Direction were first catapulted to fame in 2010, whenever anyone else in the band was acknowledged for their absurdly good looks, it was never Liam Payne.

But, to be fair, when you look back at his early days in the public eye now, you can see why he got overlooked. (excuse me??)

We never lost the faith, however, that one day the singer - who lost out to Eoghan Quigg the first time he applied for the ITV talent show - would blossom into the jaw-droppingly good-looking pin-up he is today.

So now, in the wake of him and bandmate Louis Tomlinson being spotted looking not altogether unattractive on an Australian beach, we've decided it's the perfect time to look back at his evolution from slightly awkward teen wannabe to the kind of hunk that thousands of men want to be and thousands of women want to be with.

Add to that the fact he saved his best friend from a burning building and has pants so desirable that fans broke into his flat to steal them, you can see where we're coming from.

Check out Liam's transition below.
