Image and video hosting by TinyPic

NEW YORK — Though we haven't even gotten our Halloween costume together, there's no denying the holidays are just around the corner. The concert organizers at radio station Z100 were definitely in the holiday spirit when they announced the lineup for this year's Jingle Ball in Times Square on Friday (October 11).

Featuring some of the biggest names in pop, the show will include performances from Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Pitbull, Enrique Iglesias, Fall Out Boy, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Selena Gomez, Fifth Harmony, Ariana Grande, Jason Derulo and Austin Mahone.

They'll take the stage at Madison Square Garden on December 13. Of course, the last time Thicke and Cyrus shared a stage was at the 2013 MTV VMAs. (No word on whether they'll collaborate on a repeat performance this time around.)

“Miley Cyrus Twerking Is Not Our Twerking:” The Original Twerk Team Says Miley Has No Effect On Them

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

As you unfortunately know, Miley Cyrus has put twerking on the map for mainstream America. The fascination with twerking has even moved reputable media outlets such as ABC News and The New York Times to investigate the roots of the phenomenon. Although many of us learned how to twerk like we learned how to double-dutch as pre-teens, we should give our props to online sensation, The Twerk Team. It was the Twerk Team that exposed how to look back at it and drop it sans the teddy bears and Robin Thicke. When asked by Life & Times Magazine, if they feel Miley has taken away their shine by making twerking equitable with her brand, the twosome said:

“We don’t feel any way about it but I feel like people want us to. Our whole movement is about girl power, so if you’re black, white or Asian you can twerk. But Miley Cyrus twerking is not our twerking. She’s just a fan who is showing it to a whole different ethnic group, you have to give her her props for that.”

Exclusive: Stream V V Brown’s Bold, Beautiful New Album ‘Samson & Delilah’

You may remember V V Brown as Britain’s answer to Janelle Monae, pouring a grab bag of soul/R&B influences through a fizzy, retro filter on her 2009 debut, Travelling Like The Light. My, how things have changed in four years! Brown was far along on her peppy follow-up, Lollipops & Politics, when she decided at the last second to scrap it and travel down the rabbit hole, hoping to come up with something more evocative and challenging. The result is Samson & Delilah, one of the boldest 180s between an artist’s first and second albums that we’ve witnessed in a long time. We’re talking a Yeezus-level departure from an act’s established sonics. If Janelle Monae is an android, V V Brown is now a T-1000.
And the metamorphosis was worth the wait. Samson & Delilah swaps out handclaps and saccharine ’60s pop for an ominous soundscape of rubbery synths, cascading beats and twitchy electronics, all with a pulsating energy that never flags. Brown revamped her vocals, too. She now sounds more operatic, with a power that wasn’t readily apparent on her debut. At times she bellows with the urgent force of Light Asylum‘s Shannon Funchess (particularly on “Igneous”), while other moments find her channeling a weathered vulnerability (“Faith”).
For this darker sound, Brown brought in Dave Okumu (Jessie Ware) to co-produce, and the result is a stirring and dramatic marriage of soul, house and darkwave. Her transformation is perfectly encapsulated by the thrilling goth-disco single “The Apple,” but don’t stop there. V V’s risky and rewarding sophomore effort drops October 8 on her own YOY Records, and you can stream the whole thing below.

It was finally released in the US this week. It's so good, has anyone else listened to it?

Drake's Former Fling, 'Courtney From Hooters' Uses Him To Promote Parties

Drake is no stranger to name-checking his ex-girlfriends and former flings in songs and now one of them is using the rapper to promote herself. Courtney Janell, who Drake raps about on Nothing Was The Same's "From Time," is using the rapper's celebrity status and song shout-out in a promotional flyer for an upcoming party she's hosting per RealTalkNY.

Drake raps fondly of Courtney in the song and implies that she was the great love of his life. "The one that I needed was Courtney from Hooters on Peachtree/I’ve always been feeling like she was the piece to complete me/Now she engaged to be married, what’s the rush on commitment?" he asks.

After the song was released, the Internet was sent into a frenzy to find the mysterious object of Drake's affection. BuzzFeed shares that Courtney still works at Hooters in Atlanta. The model/party host (per the flyer) deleted her Twitter handle and Instagram account but others have reached out to her about the song.

“@_sGOD: Drake tried to wife Courtney from the Hooter's on Peachtree... Who is this Courtney?” @courtneyjanell" said Q while another person named Y Dot hit Courtney up directly. "ay @courtneyjanell drake talking bout u lmaooo."

Oh gawd, she is forever going to go by "Courtney From Hooters On Peachtree". Drake did her wrong for being too damn specific in that song, there is no way he thought that she wouldn't be discovered by the public.

McDonald's Introduces Books in Happy Meals

An advocacy group is criticizing McDonald's announcement that it will include books in its Happy Meals to promote literacy. The fast food chain, says Corporate Accountability International, is " trying to earn undeserved goodwill from the growing number of parents and health advocates who are calling on them to stop marketing to kids."

McDonald's, based in Oak Brook, Ill., said it will provide more than 20 million books to families in the U.S. The company is also giving 100,000 additional books to the literacy non-profit Reading is Fundamental. The Happy Meal four-book giveaway featuring McDonald's Happy Meal characters will begin on Nov. 1, which is National Family Literacy Day, and last for two weeks.

Borelow to leave X Factor? + LIVE POST !!!

Gary Barlow to 'leave X Factor' after this series, claims Chris Evans

HE'S been the perfect replacement for Simon Cowell, but Gary Barlow might not be turning to the X Factor judging panel after this year. According to BBC Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans, the Take That star will follow in the footsteps of Louis Walsh and will not return to the show next year.

"Apparently Gary Barlow is feeling the pressure ahead of the live shows," he said on his show yesterday. "By the way, this will be Gary's last year o The X Factor… because he told me last week." The star has been a judge on the talent show for three years, and is currently mentoring the groups.

The comments come after the singer/songwriter admitted that he will always put Take That ahead of his role on the show. "I am an artist first and foremost," he said.

Meanwhile, X Factor presenter Dermot O'Leary also hinted at changes on the panel, even hinting that Simon Cowell could make a return. "If Simon comes back the dynamic would be very different,’ he said. ’Gary wouldn’t be there – he’ll be leaving at the end of this year," he said. "Simon is a great judge so we’d welcome him back, but Gary’s been such a great head judge as well."

Gary will be releasing his first solo album for 14 years on November 25, and will perform his first solo tour in April 2014.

Steve Grand Talks New Music & WWHL Bar Tending Skills

Steve Grand made quite the splash when his debut music video for "All-American Boy" went viral (over a million views in eight days) on YouTube back in July. Acclaimed by many as the first openly gay country singer, the model turned singer/songwriter has been on a whirlwind press tour across the US, including Good Morning America, performances at many gay hot-spots, and most recently as the guest bartender on Bravo's hit talk show, Watch What Happens Live.
I caught up with the "Stay" singer on the red carpet at the star-studded Bailey House/BAC Talent charity event in New York City on Friday to talk about his success so far and his new music. We also chatted about his new bartending skills after being on Andy Cohen's show. Oh, and he also serenaded a fan with The Backstreet Boy's Nick Carter!

What do you think? Will Steve Grand have an actual career in country music or is he just another pretty face?

Alan Rickman & Rupert Grint On 'CBGB,' Reuniting Post-'Potter' And Favorite Halloween Costumes

tumblr_mspq938EH41qdqf08o1_400 - Copy

The mythology of punk music's evolution can be traced back, more or less, to one singular staple: CBGB. Opened in 1973 in downtown Manhattan's East Village, the nightclub that originally intended to house country, bluegrass and blues music (hint its acronym) quickly became a breeding ground for bands like The Ramones, Talking Heads and The Police, among countless others.

The legacy of the club, which closed in 2006 over a rent dispute, is on display in a new movie that stars Alan Rickman as bemused owner Hilly Kristal. It's a bit of a departure for anyone more accustomed to seeing Rickman, 67, play sinister Severus Snape in "Harry Potter" or Judge Turpin in "Sweeney Todd." The movie also afforded him the opportunity to reunite with fellow Hogwarts alum Rupert Grint, who portrays one-third of derriere-bearing punk band The Dead Boys, alongside Justin Bartha and Bronson Adams. They're joined by a revolving door of notable faces, including Malin Akerman as Debbie Harry, Taylor Hawkins as Iggy Pop, Johnny Galecki as Terry Ork and Ashley Greene as Hilly's daughter Lisa.

HuffPost Entertainment snagged some phone time with Rickman and Grint, who were candid about their unfamiliarity with CBGB's legacy but effusive about the excitement that came with reconvening for the project. Plus, Grint talks about his own punk phase and Rickman explains what Halloween used to mean for him.

✩ Queen of Rap & Fashion Iggy Azalea keeps changing lives ✩

Iggy Azalea isn’t quite yet a star, but she looks like one. I’m waiting to interview the Australian-born rapper during what I assume is a loaded press day, which means I have the chance to watch from afar as she navigates through the several journalists and video crews waiting in the Mondrian Soho for a few minutes of her time. She’s immaculately composed in a striking black dress too complicated for my boyish brain to describe, and effortlessly jocular both on and off camera. When we finally start talking, she’s affable and lucid despite conditions that would normally prevent affability and lucidity—we only have fifteen minutes together, but she has a perfect feel for how to make the most of them.

Understand this is no small thing: plenty of musicians, regardless of their training, will clam up in such situations, but it’s part of her single-minded focus to become The Next Big Thing. Her hype’s been building for a few years up to the release of what will be her first album, The New Classic, even as she’s had to go through the typical label bureaucracy involving delays and more delays while finding a few moments to inject herself into the zeitgeist—an appearance at the VMAs here, a video with T.I. there. The waiting is new for her, but she’s a quick learner.

'Machete Kills featuring Lady Gaga FLOPS

It’s always good news when two good films, seemingly in direct competition, both do well over the weekend. Such is the case over the Columbus Day holiday weekend, where Tom Hank’s Captain Phillips opens against the uber-strong second weekend of Gravity.
Sony's SNE +1.99% $55 million true-life pirate hijacking drama opened with $8.5m for what looks to be an opening weekend of over/under $25m. That would be Tom Hank’s biggest debut since the $46m debut of Angels & Demons back in May 2009. The film parlayed strong reviews and Oscar buzz for Mr. Hanks into what’s an uncommonly strong debut for this kind of “adult drama”, just above the $8.1m opening day and $24m debut weekend of Denzel Washington’s Flight last November. Even if Tom Hanks’s face wasn’t on the poster, this debut is very much an affirmation of his bankability in the right project.

Not to be remotely outdone, Warner Bros.’ Gravity proved a genuine sensation, following up scorching over/under $6 million weekday numbers for a $12.75m second Friday, down just 27% from last Friday. If that holds, then expect Gravity to close its second weekend with just over $40m, with even more possible thanks to Sunday somewhat playing like a Saturday via the whole “no school on Monday” thing. Either way, the film should clear $100m today and and flirt with $125m going into Monday. The film, which is playing 84% 3D and 20% IMAX, is a genuine sensation and looks to indeed be playing like a classic Sandy Bullock long-legged blockbuster, and it will surpass Speed ($121m) and Ocean’s Twelve ($125m) by Sunday to become Bullock’s fourth-biggest and George Clooney’s third-biggest respective grossers.

The second new release, Open Road Films’ Machete Kills was dead-on-arrival. The relatively unrequested sequel to the 2010 cult oddity earned just$1.4 million on its first Friday, setting the stage for a mere $4-$5m Fri-Mon debut. Still, this was clearly about Robert Rodriguez doing whatever Robert Rodriguez wanted to do on a reasonable budget, around $20m, and Open Road picked this one up for $2m. It’s not a hit, but it will eventually break even somewhere down the line. If we do get a Machete Kills Again, it’ll either be direct-to-DVD or because Robert Rodriguez called in some favors or was able to cast someone huge in a supporting role (think Machete versus Sandra Bullock… which would actually be cool).

Relativity’s Romeo and Juliet debuted on just $192,000 on 461 screens. Not much more to see there. In holdover news, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2 is holding strong, with $3.58 million for its third Friday and an estimated $15m for its third weekend, obviously aided by the holiday. The $78m sequel now has $67.41m and should basically match its budget domestically by Sunday, with a strong likelihood that the film will match or top the $124m domestic gross of the first film. Prisoners earned $1m yesterday and crossed the $50m mark, while We’re the Millers now sits at $145.7m, or officially past American Pie 2 for the biggest-grossing R-rated comedy in August history. For those who care, Runner, Runner earned another $1.15m in its second Friday, bringing its sad total to $11.5m. It will barely top $20m when all is said and done.

The 25 (5) Creepiest Sexual Innuendo Moments in Kids Cartoons

Parent groups who protest television have a point. Shit gets so crazy out there in the wild west of TV that not even children's programming is safe from the dirty mind of an adult illustrator. Take, for instance, every other minute of Nickelodeon's Rocko's Modern Life. But we didn't realize this as kids. References to oral sex were mere popsicle jokes that didn't land with us.

Looking back on it now, we're creeped the hell out. Cartoons run amuck with sexual innuendos that you don't even learn during high school sex-ed. Thank you, all you bored perverted animators, for tainting our childhood. These are the 25 5 creepiest sexual innuendo moments in kids cartoons.
17. The Girls Were Mistakenly Conceived on The Powerpuff Girls
Episode: "Super Friends" (Season 4,Episode 4)

Considering Craig McCracken also wrote some episodes for Dexter's Laboratory, it makes sense that McCracken, the creator of The Powerpuff Girls, put some sexual allusions in this show. One that immediately comes to mind is in "Super Friends," where the Powerpuff Girls bring a friend to their home. The sisters introduce their friend to the professor, and proceed to tell her how an "accident" made by the professor resulted in their being. The professor laughs it off but then becomes quiet when the friend says, "Don't worry, professor. I was a mistake, too." It's the look on the professor's face that twists the line. But on another note, it's such a bummer that this girl has been called a mistake. Not cool, anonymous, fictional parents. Not cool.

Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth Teaming Up for New TV Series

Former Beverly Hills, 90210 stars Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling are reuniting.

They're set to co-star and executive produce the new ABC Family series Mystery Girls.

Spelling, 40, and Garth, 41 – who played Donna Martin and Kelly Taylor for 10 years and reprised their roles on the 90210 spinoff – will play Holly and Charlie, former co-stars of a popular '90s crime-solving series.

Spelling's Holly opens a detective agency and persuades Charlie, now a suburban mom, to help.

Mom of four Spelling is following in her legendary TV producer dad Aaron Spelling's footsteps by taking a prominent role behind the cameras.

Mystery Girls, which is set to shoot in November, is based on a story that Spelling co-wrote. She previously served as executive producer on her reality show Tori & Dean: Inn Love.

Miley makes anti-semitic comment as she says she won't take advice from an 'old Jewish man'

Earlier this week, my beloved Miley “Molly” Cyrus made yet another foray into the impolitic.

Talking to the website Hunger, the singer argued that those adults who deem her gyrations too sultry and her music too saccharine were simply too ancient—and Jewish—to get it.

“With magazines, with movies, it’s always weird when things are targeted for young people yet they’re driven by people that are like 40 years too old,” Cyrus opined. And one group stands out in Miley’s mind as deserving of most of the blame: “It can’t be like this 70-year-old Jewish man that doesn’t leave his desk all day, telling me what the clubs want to hear.”

How to respond to such dross? One way, of course, is not to: Ever since she decided to shed the mantle of wholesome Disney star, Cyrus’ career has been a succession of depth charges, each designed to trouble the surface of popular culture. At 15, she disrobed for Annie Leibovitz; at 16, she pole-danced at the Teen Choice Awards; at 17, she posed with a bong. Whatever else she is—a reasonably talented singer, a canny careerist, a rowdy performer—Cyrus is also, perhaps primarily, a scandal-driven PR machine. And as history teaches us—look under Sheen, Charlie—the only way to stop those is to simply look away.

What artist do you feel is most like you?
I think Drake is most like me, I think he’s really passionate about his music, he’s really melodic, he seems to be very adamant about the things he wants and he’s not willing to settle for anything or anyone else, and I think I might be the female version of that.

Conservatorship Expert: The Difference Between Britney Spears and Amanda Bynes

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Last month, Amanda Bynes' mother declined the chance to become her daughter’s conservator just days before she was slated to appear in court about it on Sept. 30.

There's one major reason that people in Hollywood understand the idea of conservatorship: Britney Spears. It’s been six years since Britney’s shaved-head-and-umbrella-whacking mental breakdown in 2007, but she still remains under a conservatorship today.

"Britney Spears is under an extended conservatorship,” explains Wendy Feldman, a legal and mental health consultant in the state of California. "The difference with Amanda’s is that hers is a limited conservatorship, not full."

She explains further: ”There are a team of doctors who sign off on her, it’s not just one person. Like in Britney’s case, it’s her dad.”

Britney is about to launch a residency in Las Vegas, which will be bringing in major bucks for the "Til The World Ends" singer.

Feldman says it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing 27-year-old Amanda’s finances handled in a similar way. "Amanda's parents don't have control over new ventures with her money, as Britney's do,” she explains of the former Nickelodeon star. "They can only maintain what currently needs to be done like pay bills and work with her doctors to get her the help she needs."

It is unlikely that She's the Man star Amanda, who rumoredly suffers from schizophrenia, will be put under a full conservatorship right now, Feldman says.

The key difference between the two stars is that Britney was not in the middle of treatment when her father took full conservatorship. According to reports last month, a judge turned Amanda’s 2012 DUI case to a mental health court, where legal officials will determine if Amanda is mentally fit to stand trial.

Since then, the troubled star has reportedly been transferred from UCLA Medical Center to a private facility in Malibu where sources say she’s doing well. She's reportedly under an LPS hold, which is an involuntary mental health or psychiatric hold.

"Doctors will be keeping a very close eye on her. The goal for her is to help her re-enter into society, stabilize medication and mood," Feldman tells Life & Style.
