Tami's "advice" was absolutely disgusting. Everyone, except Suzie was trying to persuade Evelyn to get back together with Chad. IMO a man who puts his hands on you DOES NOT LOVE YOU. Tami should know better, as a mother of two teenage daughters. At the same time, i have to say that I wasn't surprised that she thought that Chad should get another chance, being as shes someone who thinks that putting your hands on someone and being violent is a way to always solve a problem.

'BRONY: The Movie' Trailer

Love them or hate them, bronies, the adult fans of My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic, are fascinating. And people love to talk about them. To figure them out. It’s a fandom that has, at this point, been meticulously documented. And now, there’s another documentary on the way: Brony: The Movie first launched its first trailer (above) at this month’s BronyCon in Baltimore, and now it’s made its way online.

An earlier documentary, Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony, came out in 2013 after hitting a Kickstarter goal five times what the filmmakers asked for. More than one brony documentary may seem like overkill, but in the roughly two years since the subculture emerged, bronies have taken over web forums, become a massive meme, and infiltrated everything from dance music to the U.S. military. They’re the epitome of fandom in the post-modern, post-irony, internet age, and according to Brony: The Movie director Brent Hodge, there’s enough culture in the My Little Pony fandom to fill more than one documentary.

Feds Fight African Heir Apparent Over Michael Jackson's Crystal 'Bad' Glove

U.S. prosecutors allege the son of Equatorial Guinea's dictator is a — wait for it — smooth criminal

America's foreign diplomacy involves an untold number of moving parts that affect the lives of billions of people around the world. Just this week the U.S. government has had to deal with the eruption of violence in Egypt, a proposed boycott of the upcoming Winter Olympics over Russia's draconian anti-gay laws, and the ongoing saga of Edward Snowden — oh, and recovering one of the Swarovski crystal gloves Michael Jackson rocked on his "Bad" tour. According to the Hollywood Reporter, federal prosecutors have been embroiled in a lawsuit with Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, the son of Equatorial Guinea's dictator, in a case filed as United States of America v. One White Crystal-Covered "Bad Tour" Glove and Other Michael Jackson Memorabilia. (Really, that's what it's called.)

US porn film industry shut down by HIV scare

The US adult film industry announced a moratorium on the making of porn films Wednesday after an actor tested positive for HIV.

The performer was not immediately identified and officials didn't say when the positive test was recorded. The actor's sex partners are currently being tested by doctors with Adult Production Health and Safety Services, which works with the porn industry.

"The moratorium will be lifted once the risk of transmission has been eliminated," Diane Duke, executive director of the industry trade group the Free Speech Coalition, told The Associated Press in an email. She added that the actor is not believed to have been infected on a film set.

The industry briefly put a similar moratorium in place last year after nearly a dozen performers were infected during a syphilis outbreak.

Word of the latest moratorium quickly drew critical responses from porn industry opponents. Among them was Michael Weinstein, whose group the AIDS Healthcare Foundation successfully lobbied voters last year to adopt an ordinance requiring actors use condoms in the making of most porn films.

"How many adult film performers have to become infected with an array of preventable sexually transmitted diseases including HIV, which is not curable before the porn industry actually complies with the law requiring condom use," he said in a statement.

Since the ordinance's adoption, county officials have said they are investigating one violation.

Assemblyman Isadore Hall III, who is pushing for the state to adopt a similar law, called Wednesday's news "devastating and preventable."

"Exposing workers to this type of harm would not be accepted in any other industry in this nation," the Los Angeles Democrat said.

The industry, which says its audience does not want to see condoms, is fighting the Los Angeles County measure in court.

After a federal judge ruled last week that the measure is constitutional industry officials promised to appeal.

Hikaru Utada's Mother Dead; Suicide Suspected

Keiko Fuji, a former well-known enka singer and the mother of singer Hikaru Utada, fell to her death from a 13th-floor apartment in Tokyo on Thursday in what media are calling a suspected suicide.

According to police, Fuji, 62, wearing a T-shirt and short pants, was found lying on the grounds of her apartment building in Shinjuku Ward at around 7 a.m., NTV reported. She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead. Police said Fuji lived in the apartment with a male friend who was asleep at the time of the incident. Her slippers were found near the railing on the balcony, police said, adding that no suicide note was found.

Fuji made her singing debut in 1969. She won the “mass popularity award” at the Japan Record Award in 1970, and was known for such hits as “Keiko no Yume wa Yoru Hiraku” and “Onna no Blues.” She retired from singing in 1979 and relocated to the United States where she lived for several years.

ugh this is so sad for hikki. she, namie, and ayu have all had terrible things happen now with their parents... and what is with this summer. rest in peace, ms fuji.

Lindsay Lohan on Oprah’s Next Chapter: The Most Infuriating Moments

And now we know why every single preview of Oprah’s Next Chapter with Lindsay Lohan was simply a montage reel of Oprah firing off questions: because Lohan had very little to say in the interview—which was taped just four days after Lohan concluded a court-ordered rehab stay and aired last night on Oprah’s OWN cable network. (The only new information gleaned from 60 minutes’ worth of conversation, Cliffside Malibu ads, and OWN promos for a Fabio edition of Where Are They Now, which seemed gripping compared with what was unraveling before us: Lindsay now admits to being an alcohol addict and to have snorted cocaine between 10 and 15 times.)

The interview was so devoid of anything sensational that we spent much of it studying the cubby storage units in the background of Oprah’s beachfront-asylum-decorated set. And so weak compared with Oprah’s past interviews with troubled stars that we wondered whether she had simply entered the unconcerned-about-driving-regulations-spill-stains-and-bombshell-interviews stage of her old age. In a frantic attempt to therapy-journal our frustrations over the fact that we spent an hour watching Next Chapter instead of Breaking Bad, we’ve compiled the five most maddening moments from the year’s least-special TV “special” below.

Amanda Bynes’ saga shows public insensitivity to mental illness

She gave us endless laughs with her quirky skits on The Amanda Show. She melted our hearts as the lovable Daphne Reynolds in the ultimate chick flick, What a Girl Wants. Her small screen and big screen performances provided memorable quotes such as, “Bring out the dancing lobsters!”

But as Newton’s law of gravity asserts, what goes up must come down. And like many child stars, Amanda Bynes’ stardom has definitely come tumbling down. This should inspire a frank discussion about mental illness rather than the humorous commentary that we’ve seen.

Today, this Nickelodeon star is nearly unrecognizable when compared to the sweet-faced girl that she once was: Her ever-changing, ill-fitting wigs, mismatching outfits and inappropriate outbursts have caused quite the stir.

Initially, she began tweeting nearly-naked self-portraits with bizarre captions and then took it as far as calling fellow celebrities such as Drake, Miley Cyrus and Rihanna “ugly.” Her record with the law enforcement isn’t too great either: Police have arrested Bynes for charges ranging from marijuana possession to a DUI. This is all in stark contrast to the gorgeous teenager who once graced the covers of Seventeen magazine and Vanity Fair, lauded for her down-to-earth personality.

Though other stars, such as Lindsay Lohan and Charlie Sheen, have faced similar charges and public breakdowns, Bynes is different from the others — she has a mental illness. For this reason, we must sympathize instead of criticize.

Black Keys Divorce Wife Gets $5 MILLION ...and Bob Dylan's Hair

Here comes the story of Bob Dylan's hair ... which apparently belongs to the ex-wife of Black Keys singer Dan Auerbach. Seriously (according to court docs obtained by TMZ).

We've learned ... Auerbach's extremely bitter divorce with Stephanie Gonis was finalized this week in Tennessee ... after the warring couple came to terms on splitting up their assets.

First, the money: She gets more than $5 million.  Plus, she gets the couple's 2012 Toyota Highlander and one of the family homes.

But who cares, because the real story here is BOB DYLAN'S HAIR.

According to the divorce docs, the couple owns an asset described as "Bob Dylan Hair."

It's unclear how the hair was obtained ... when it was obtained ... if the hair contains any product ... etc. -- but the point is, Dan agreed to part ways with it in the divorce.

Translation -- Stephanie, congrats ... you are the owner of a weird freaky piece of music memorabilia!!!!

We reached out to Bob about the situation, who told us, "MMmerrrrreeeerrrrmmmmmeeeaaahhh."'

Just kidding. He hasn't called us back yet.

J. Cole Talks About Colorism in Hip-Hop and the White House

North Carolina native J. Cole recently sat down for an interview with BET and admitted he might not be as successful in hip-hop if he were dark-skinned:

You’ve talked about including dark-skinned women in your music videos versus all light-skinned women. The light-skinned, dark-skinned issue certainly affects women in hip hop; does it affect men in hip hop?

I can’t say it for sure but I just think we’re still in America. We’re still Black Americans. Those mental chains are still in us. That brainwashing that tells us that light skin is better, it’s subconsciously in us, whether we know it or not… still pursuing light skin women. There are some women out there that are like, “I don’t even like light skin men” and that’s fine. But Barack Obama would not be President if he were dark skin. You know what I mean? That’s just the truth. I might not be as successful as I am now if I was dark skin. I’m not saying that for sure, I’m still as talented as I am and Obama is still as smart as he is, but it’s just a sad truth… I don’t even know if this is going to translate well into text and people not hearing what I’m saying, but it’s a sad reality. So I can only naturally assume it’s probably easier for a light skin male rapper than it might be for a dark skin male rapper. It’s all subconscious s***, nobody’s aware — I think that s*** still subconsciously affects us.

Madonna Contiunes Her Rise Into Dementia

Who knew Polygrip also works wonders for grilles!

Madge decided to cover her rotting teeth show off some bling when she wore a jewel encrusted teeth grille to her Roman "Hard Candy" fitness center. Madonna managed to see Miley Cyrus’s new look and Madge decided that she too needed a “grill”. As much as we say that Lady Gaga is always copying Madonna, we still have to remember that Madonna was The Original Copycat. So, Madge thinks she’s Miley Cyrus now. Madge thinks that she can do it BETTER than Miley. Is she right? These are photos of Madonna in Rome yesterday – she was visiting a new Rome branch of her “Hard Candy Gym”. Madge wore her grill. Because of course she did. Haven't we been through this? She did the gold-tooth thing in the 90's, and Madonna isn't usually one to repeat things, so I'm surprised we're seeing this on her. But, then, she's also wearing her '80s-style fingerless gloves again, so maybe everything old is new again except her with her these days. Regardless, I still don't think I can support this whole grill thing. It's just not working for me.
What do you think? Did Madonna pull off her grill here? And how to do you feel about tooth coverings in general? Discuss.

[you put this in her .. so now what]

Mandy Patinkin regrets "abominable" behavior during 'Chicago Hope', still hates 'Criminal Minds'

Looking back on his career, Mandy Patinkin says he's not proud that he was once a very spoiled actor who thought he needed more fame.

In a recent New York Times Magazine profile, the Homeland star talks about some of his past career regrets, including how he was fired from Mike Nichols' '86 flick Heartburn and why , on his first starring television gig, he wouldn't listen to his bosses.

"I struggled with letting in other people's opinions," he says. "During Chicago Hope, I never let directors talk to me, because I was so spoiled. I started off with people like Milos Forman, Sidney Lumet, James Lapine, unbelievably gifted people. So there I was saying, 'Don't talk to me, I don't want your opinion.' I behaved abominably. I don't care if my work was good or if I got an award for it. I'm not proud of how I was then, and it pained me."

After exiting the CBS medical drama, Patinkin later signed onto Criminal Minds playing BAU Special Agent Jason Gideon. His departure from the show after Season 2 over creative differences made headlines at the time and again last year, when the actor told the New York Times that the show was "the biggest public mistake" he ever made.

In the new interview, Patinkin suggests he shouldn't have taken the role in the first place. "It wasn't the right fit. I made a choice I didn't want to make. I pushed myself, thinking I needed more fame, more economic security," he said. "When Criminal Minds came along, I had just survived the discovery that I had prostate cancer, so I guess I had that vulnerability. I'll never forget sitting on the bed in my cousin's house in L.A. reading the first script, and I schmoozed myself, I brainwashed myself, thinking, It won't be like that as it goes along. I didn't listen to any piece of myself, and I paid the price. I never expected to work in television again."

Of course, Patinkin did work again, landing the Emmy-nominated role of Saul Berenson, theMiddle East Division Chief of the CIA on Homeland, which returns for its third season onSept. 29 .

"One of the greatest gifts that Homeland has given me is it's affirming on a daily basis," he says. "I'm always with the script, walking around with this stuff 24/7, so my head's in a good place. The role is about listening, and when you don't listen to yourself, you get in trouble."

Jeremy Renner Flips Bel Air Estate for $17 Million in Profit.

It looks like actor Jeremy Renner has something to fall back on if the whole A-list movie star thing ever collapses: Real estate.

The talented star of blockbusters such as Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol and The Hurt Locker has sold a Bel Air estate for $24 million after paying $7 million for the posh property a mere three years ago.

The Avengers hunk, who works with interior designer Kristoffer Winters on his real estate dealings, marketed the six-bedroom, nine-and-a-half bathroom abode as “fit for a 21st century Howard Hughes,” presumably minus the urine bottle collection.

The 10,000 sq. foot home, which sits on two acres of property, was remodeled in the roaring 20′s Art Deco style, and includes garish amenities such five fireplaces, a home theater and ceilings 14-feet high.

Renner, who’s a new daddy, told David Letterman last year he and Winters have bought and sold more than 20 homes the past 10 years.

A Deaf Diva? Blame It on the SoulCycle

I can’t tell you how many times I had seen her on TV singing the National Anthem or stepping onto a red carpet out the open door of some other guy’s limo. And now this Grammy-winning diva was sitting in mine.

Every day.

There’s nothing better for a driver than a regular booking -- and this one was five days a week. From 10 in the morning until 10 at night, taking one of the most famous women in the world from her home in the Hollywood Hills down to the soundstage in Culver City where she was rehearsing for her big comeback.

She needed to be in performing shape for her tour. She needed to be able to go hard in front of 15,000 people for two solid hours and more. Not to mention that she had to lose 20 pounds.

That’s what her agent had told her. That’s what the producers of the worldwide tour had told him. The show included 10 expensive costumes. And none was bigger than a pocket square. People can’t begin to understand what kind of pressure the hugely talented artists of this town’s creative community have to live with.

“I’ll never lose the weight,” she said late one night when I was taking her home. She burst into tears. She had pushed herself to the edge of exhaustion after all the meetings, the rehearsals, the fittings and the fasting. She didn’t think the tour could be saved.

I felt like a civic duty was calling me to be more than just a limo driver when the survival of an American icon was in the balance.

So I said, “Have you ever heard of SoulCycle? It’s a spinning workout. Full body. Super intense.”

“That won’t help,” she said. “I never learned how to ride a bike.”

Ariana Grande's co-writer talks Mariah Carey inspirations

Have you been wondering why Ariana Grande’s music sounds so similar to Mariah Carey and if the young songbird has intentionally been ripping off her idol as part of some evil plan? Well, You Know I Got Soul got to the root of the mystery in a new interview with the man behind the music, Harmony Samuels.

Samuels co-wrote and produced most of Grande’s Yours truly debut album, including the songs “The Way”, “Right There” and “Almost is Never Enough”, and is well aware of the the comparisons made between sound of those records and Carey’s early work. However, he doesn’t see that as a problem, and prefers to view it as positive instead of blatant imitation.

“Everyone keeps making Mariah comparisons, but there’s different types of Mariah,” Harmony explained. “There’s the real Pop Mariah from “Emotions”, the throwback Mariah from “Butterfly” and she has different colors. That’s why [Grande is] Mariah.” Just a minor note: “Emotions” is a mixture of Pop, Soul, Dance and Gospel as an innovative sound developed by Carey alongside C+C Music Factory in 1991 but of course, Samuels probably doesn’t understand what it means to be original, so I’ll let that slide.

A-list actors and Performance-enhancing drugs

In 2005, a 30-something actor on the precipice of superstardom began prepping for a lead feature role that required ample spotlight on his abs. (Who?) The actor met with the film's trainer and outlined the performance-enhancing drugs, including human growth hormone (HGH), he already had been taking. The trainer, a firm believer that a chiseled physique should be achieved naturally, recused himself from working with the actor.

"He told me that HGH made him feel like nothing else ever made him feel," recalls the trainer, who declined to be identified out of respect for trainer/trainee confidentiality. "He was basically addicted. I told him to find another trainer. He did."

That actor, now an A-lister who continues to cash in on his impressive torso, is just one of Hollywood's growing list of stars who turn to injectable HGH and other performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) amid the ever-competitive world of looking great at any age.

Who Roundup: Lord Moffington Addresses the 12 Regenerations Problem & 10 Reasons to Miss 11

The Doctor is currently played by Matt Smith, but will soon regenerate into his twelfth incarnation, to be played by new casting Peter Capaldi.

Moffat spoke about the issue at the Ad-Lib event at this year’s Edinburgh TV festival, during which time session host Frank Skinner asked: ‘Do you acknowledge the convention that The Doctor can only regenerate 12 times?’

Moffat replied simply: ‘Yes’ giving little away about how he plans to get around the probable need for future Doctors after Capaldi.

The Doctor Who head honcho also spoke about whether he thought Capaldi would keep his distinctive Scottish accent, saying: ‘I’d be very surprised if he didn’t [keep it].’

Moffat has previously said he thinks Capaldi will make an ‘older, trickier and fiercer’ Doctor and that the character might cause trouble for assistant Clara, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman.

‘I think the fun story will be – and we have the opportunity here – is this is what regeneration can do to you. He can be very, very different.’

The next Rowling? 'Bone Season' author, 21, on surprise success

Samantha Shannon isn’t a household name yet, but critics say the 21-year-old novelist and her protagonist are on the cusp of a meteoric rise.

Shannon’s book “The Bone Season,” released today, is a story about a clairvoyant woman fighting for her freedom against a repressive future society. The novel, part of a seven-book deal with Bloomsbury, has garnered praise from critics, and film rights for the series have already been sold to Imaginarium Studios. Now “The Bone Season” is kicking off the TODAY Book Club.

“I’m just really overwhelmed and humbled by the reaction,” Shannon told “It’s been amazing, I didn’t expect my first novel to get this big, and I’m so grateful for the support from TODAY.”

Shannon wrote the book at age 19, after turning a slew of rejections of her first manuscript into a short internship with literary agent David Godwin while she was a student at Oxford University. Though "The Bone Season" is an entirely different book, Shannon did salvage one character and some concepts from that first effort, she told

“I think it shows intelligence that she can actually address what was wrong with the book and learn from it and then turn it into something extraordinary,” Godwin told TODAY.

Drunken Brooks Ayers Caught On Secret Audio Tape Calling Ex Vicki Gunvalson A ‘F*cking Whore’

He is heard slurring his words and using profane insults about the woman he’s dated since 2011, during an explosive exchange with a second man, believed to be Ryan Culberson, Gunvalson’s son-in-law.

At one point, Ayers, 46, even glorifies violence against women, telling Culberson he too should beat the opposite sex. When he’s rebuffed by Culberson, a Staff Sergeant in the Marines, Ayers tells him: “Well you probably should do.”

They were recorded because those close to Gunvalson, 51, were afraid Ayers may harm her, a source told

Radar has verified that the man caught on tape making the threats is indeed Ayers.

The station tweeted the news just hours after Clarkson announced that she and fiance, Brandon Blackstock, cancelled their wedding. Something we found odd, considering all of the effort she went through to plan the big day – from buying a wedding dress (designed by Vera Wang), to getting Blake Shelton to marry them, to announcing her Maid of Honor just two short weeks ago.

Instead, she says they’re going to elope, with it being herself, Blackstock, his two children (from previous marriage to Melissa Blackstock) and the minister – no friends or family will be in attendance.

Debbie Allen Sells 'Fame'-Like Music-Themed Scripted Series To CW

Debbie Allen (and producing partner Sam Haskell) has sold a script for an untitled drama to the CW.

Described as a Fame-like music-themed series (Allen starred in Fame), the new project will center on an LA-based performing arts school.

Matt Witten (House, JAG, Supernatural) has been brought on to write the script and executive produce alongside Debbie Allen and Haskell.

The project marks the latest in the push to bring Fame back to TV. Nearly a year ago to the date, American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe teamed with MGM Television to reimagine Fame for the small screen with a more contemporary take on the 1980 MGM film and subsequent series that helped catapult Allen to stardom.

With Fox's Glee and ABC's Nashville returning, I suppose it shouldn't be much of a surprise that other networks will attempt to snag some of that music-themed show success.

No word yet on casting.

You might remember that, last year, Ms Allen mentioned her desire to reboot A Different World.

Kerry Washington's Secret Marriage: I Knew They Were Dating, But No Clue About Wedding, Says Co-star

It's not easy finding someone in Hollywood who knew Kerry Washington was dating her now husband, NFL star Nnamdi Asomugha.

But we finally did!

"I did know she was dating," Washington's Scandal costar Dan Bucatinsky told me at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Pre-Emmy Performers Peer Group reception. "I didn't know that they were going to get married, but all of us sort of hoped. We wish her the best always. She did it in the perfect way."

Washington and Asomugha seemed to have taken a page from Olivia Pope's handbook when it came to planning their undercover ceremony.

"I don't think that was necessarily planned but she ultimately learned something from Olivia," Bucatinsky said with a laugh, before adding, "I think she just wanted a little privacy."

E! News was the first to report that Washington and Asomugha got hitched on June 24 in Hailey, Idaho.

Washington's parents, Earl and Valerie, signed the certificate as witnesses, and the groom's sister, Chisaraokwu Asomugha—a minister in Silver Spring, Md.—officiated.

Bucatinsky said the first time he saw Washington after the nuptials was shortly after the Emmy nominations were announced. "We ran into each other on the lot where we were both doing some reaction press, and she and I just hugged each other in the parking lot," he said. "I was so happy for her for the Emmy but mostly for her marriage. She so deserves that and she's really private in her personal life and I really respect that and there's no better person. She's one of my heroes."

Interview with Producer of ARTPOP - DJ White Shadow

How much has the change in the sound of Top 40 influenced the choice of single and the sound, and to what extent the need to get airplay and hits define how you and Gaga approach the writing/producing of songs?
Most of these songs were written like 2 years ago, you know? So, we didn’t know what was going to happen this week two years ago. I mean, we just wrote songs that were fun. We weren’t necessarily trying to go for anything. I made all kinds of crazy shit, I’d throw it at her and see what sticks.

Juicy J Promises $50,000 Scholarship To Best Student Who Can Twerk

Three 6 Mafia's Juicy J is quite the character. Gearing up for next week's Stay Trippy, his first solo album on a major label, the Memphis, Tennessee emcee/producer made the Taylor Gang/Columbia Records effort available for a free listen, if contestants unlocked songs through his virtual stripper game at

Now, the man who is also producing Pimp C's forthcoming posthumous album, says he will pay $50,000 in the form of a scholarship, to "the best chick who can twerk."

At 36 years old, it is presumed that Juice is making the offer to current and would-be students. When he tweeted the offer this morning (August 22), he did provide formal entry rules.

Most notably, earlier this year, Disney star-turned-Pop singer Miley Cyrus appeared onstage twerking, during a Juicy J concert appearance in Los Angeles, California.

The 30 funniest (mostly white) women in Hollywood history according to some magazine

The world of comedy has always been dominated by dudes, and even the most prolific comedy writers have been silenced because of gender. The stories of sexism on Saturday Night Live are as a part of its legend as the camaraderie between castmates. Even a comedy hero like John Belushi was guilty of it. Writers like Anne Beatts, an SNL writer who admitted that Belushi would purposefully perform female-written sketches poorly so they'd never make it past rehearsal, and Irma Kalish, who created more than 300 scripts for TV on shows like All in the Family and Maude, are the unsung heroes of comedy. Television executives and film producers clung stubbornly to the idea that no one would watch something starring, or written by, a woman.

For years, women weren't the leads on sitcom, let alone feature films. And, if a woman did find herself in a starring role, it was because of her her romantic relationship with a man. Now, we have heroes like Melissa McCarthy and Amy Poehler taking the baton that was passed to them from Gilda Radner and Mary Tyler Moore.

In honor of Kristen Wiig's birthday, click through our list of the funniest women ever to grace the screen.

Is Corey Feldman Threatening to Sue ‘VICE’ for Taking Depressing Birthday Pary?

If you’ve been on the Internet in the past 24 hours, you have probably giggled your way through VICE editor Jamie Lee Curtis Taete’s account of attending Corey Feldman’s $250-a-head birthday party. Despite Feldman demanding final approval on the feature, it’s largely been interpreted as depicting him and his party in… well, let’s just say a less than flattering light. Feldman is up in arms about the piece, and now seems to be threatening to sue: “It’s called defamation of character and slander,” he tweeted last night, “and I’m pretty sure those things are still illegal in this country.” They are, but does Feldman have a leg to stand on here?

In one way, you have to hand it to Feldman for being self-aware enough to realize that VICE are taking the piss, although the fact that he allegedly got final right of refusal on the feature rather undermines any claim he might have to being defamed. In any case, it appears that he’s not complaining about the wording — whether you read sarcasm between the lines or take Taete’s account of being excited at seeing “the hottest names in Hollywood were going to be living it up in a mansion with some of the hottest bitches on the planet” at face value is entirely up to the reader, but it doesn’t seem to bother our Corey.

Another review of Mortal Instruments, ripping it to shreds

Or How I Shoe Horned Every Film Cliché into Two Hours.

[Editor’s Note: This review contains major spoilers… Though you can pretty much guess them all in the first act.]

From what I understand The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones was originally a crappy Harry Potter fan fiction written by notable cat lady Cassandra Clare. Fortunately, a few key words were changed here and thus another attempt to wow preteens was born. Much in the same vain as The Host, Twilight and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters this is a complete load of crap that jams as many clichés into its two hour run time as it can and really makes me reconsider my faith in humanity, because every character in the film is a special kind of stupid.

TM2's Leah Moves Family to Handicapped Accessable Home After Devestating News About Ali.

Leah Calvert has struggled to learn what’s ailing adorable Ali Simms (4 in December) for the past few years, which fans of Teen Mom 2 have watched play out on screen. Last spring, Leah and ex-husband Corey Simms seemed to get some long-awaited answers about Ali’s mysterious health problem. Unfortunately, it seems Ali’s condition has only deteriorated in the time since.

“Things went from bad to worse with Ali and it turns out that she could have to be in a wheelchair soon,” a source close the family reveals, adding Leah and husband Jeremy Calvert decided to move to a wheelchair accessible home after learning the news. “They are also planning on getting a place that allows horses because that will be part of Ali’s therapy.”

The source didn’t go into specifics about Ali’s condition, only saying it was “some sort of mitochondrial disease” that will worsen. That must be particularly devastating for Leah and her family, as they have hoped Ali would be able to walk without assistance.

“Ali has been doing therapy for a few years now and seemed to be improving, however, from what the doctor told the family at Ali’s big doctor appointment in July, her disorder will just keep getting worse,”
the source said. Although Leah hasn’t addressed any specific developments with Ali’s health, she did allude to some challenges this summer via Twitter.

'Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder: I'm not thrilled about The Originals

Ian Somerhalder has admitted that he is "not thrilled' about The Vampire Diaries spin-off The Originals.

The spin-off series will debut this October, and centres on the Mikaelson siblings Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies), and Rebekah (Claire Holt).

Speaking to Digital Spy, Somerhalder revealed that he is concerned that the spin-off may take strong actors away from The Vampire Diaries.

"I'm excited for Julie [Plec], and for Joseph and all my people," Somerhalder began, "but I'm a selfish actor - I'm not a producer on the show, I'm not a writer. My only concern is Damon, and my show.

"Now, they're going to be taking these characters that mean so much to our show. I'm insanely happy for everyone, but I'm not thrilled. Not that I mind sharing, I just don't want to lose all these amazing actors on our show."

Somerhalder went on to explain that he also worries about The Vampire Diaries being forced to introduce too many new characters, to make up for the absence of Morgan, Gillies and Holt.

"Who are the other people who are gonna be coming on the show? Are they gonna be good? Because it's The CW, and everyone has to be pretty, and there aren't a lot of pretty people that can act well.

"I'm not joking! I'm one of them, that can act well. Not to sound s**tty about it, but casting is always tough. I feel like they worked so hard on casting this show... and hopefully they just continue to put great actors in."

The Originals will premiere on the CW after The Vampire Diaries' fifth season on Thursday, October 3. It will then shift to Tuesday nights, beginning on October 8.

Somerhalder's new science fiction drama The Anomaly will be released in 2014.

Bradley Cooper Offered Rocket Raccoon in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy already has its Star-Lord, its Gamora, its Drax, and its Groot. Now it may have found the final piece of its superhero puzzle.

According to a new report, Bradley Cooper has been offered the role of Rocket Raccoon in the superhero flick. Whether he’ll accept, however, remains to be seen.

Latino Review broke the big news, based on information from their sources in England. Their story indicates only that Cooper has been offered the part, not that he’s accepted it or sealed the deal. So at this point, he’s still not a lock for the part.

Fans have been speculating on who would voice Rocket Raccoon for quite some time. Director James Gunn said in July that the announcements could be made as early as “tomorrow, next week-ish,” but clearly we’ve been waiting longer than that.

Gunn has previously described Rocket Raccoon as a “mangled little beast” who serves as “the heart of the movie.” In a separate interview, he explained his vision for the character:

It’s about creating a character that’s a little animal that’s taken and experimented on, pulled apart and put back together again and implanted with cybernetics. He’s half machine and half raccoon and he’s a little gnarled, miserable pretty angry creature because there’s nothing else like him and that’s not easy to be.

If Cooper signs on, he’ll be joining a very exciting cast that includes Chris Pratt as Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana (Cooper’s ex and The Words co-star) as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, and Vin Diesel as Groot. John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, and Benicio Del Toro are also set to star.

But first, Cooper will have to clear some room in his very crowded schedule. Among his upcoming gigs are Susanne Bier’s Serena, David O. Russell’s American Hustle, an untitled Cameron Crowe project, and American Sniper, which he’s producing. Guardians of the Galaxy is shooting now for release on August 1, 2014.

No thank you. Rocket Raccoon needs a legit voice actor, not a stunt cast.

10 Films with Hot Starts that Fizzled Out

By Thomas Mentel

When it comes to the box office, a lot of attention this summer has been given to how well a film performs in its second weekend after experiencing an initial surge during its opening weekend. Usually, a film that shows a second weekend drop in box office performance somewhere along the lines of 50 percent is considered normal — anything higher can be a sign of poor box office performance to come.

Man of Steel is a famous example of the summer, as the Superman reboot made $116 million in its opening weekend and dropped to $41 million in its second — a 65 percent drop. As a result, Man of Steel went from No. 1 at the box office to No. 3. Other summer films have had similar experiences: Universal Pictures’s (NASDAQ:CMCSA) Fast & Furious 6 dropped 63 percent; Disney’s (NYSE:DIS) Iron Man 3 dropped 58 percent; and the micro-budget The Purge, also from Universal, dropped 75 percent.

So with all of this in mind, which films had the absolute worst drops from the No. 1 spot at the box office after its debut? Using this nifty chart from website Box Office Mojo, here are 10 films that only saw a glimpse of box office glory before sliding down the ladder in epic fashion.

Round 2 in P*rez versus Gaga: 'Justice for Bionic' campaign

If you missed the details of Lady Gaga and Perez Hilton‘s batshit Twitter feud, here’s a recap: Lady Gaga, a Bennington thesis who also sings, accused her former bestie, celebrity gossip gremlin Perez Hilton, of stalking her at her New York City apartment, prompting Hilton to claim that Gaga has pathologically sabotaged the careers of her contemporaries (namely: Christina Aguilera, Natalia Kills, Kerli, Katy Perry, Porcelain Black, and others).

Now, Hilton has fired some additional shots by amplifying a new movement (viva la revolución!) called Justice For Bionic, encouraging true lovers of music to hit retailers on November 11 not to purchase Gaga’s ARTPOP but instead, to buy Christina Aguilera’s much-derided 2010 LP Bionic.

Can Harry Styles in makeup persuade men to put on the slap?

Keys, wallet, phone … concealer? Until this week, I was safe in the knowledge that my days as a New Romantic "dabbling" with my mum's eyeliner were over. Makeup for men, after all, is for emo teens, your light entertainment telly presenters and Steve Tyler. Then pop squeal-magnet Harry Styles arrived at the premiere of the One Direction film, This Is Us, with what looked suspiciously like a lipsticked pout (because "What Makes You Beautiful", it turns out, is a rose lippy). I'm not saying my pre-going-out pocket patdown has wobbled, but Styles is on GQ's list of most stylish men. Is wearing a bit of guyliner and manscara officially going to become A Thing? Are Disney poppet Zac Efron and X Factor's Rylan Clark pioneers?

Nah, reckons Guardian beauty columnist Sali Hughes. "Every few years there are claims it will be the next big thing, but it's broadly confined to celebrities and specific style tribes." Still, the UK male skincare market is worth more than £600m and, next month, Tom Ford launches a male cosmetic range including bronzer and eye treatment. Anecdotally, beauty counters see men happy to use skin-smoothing primers and tinted moisturisers.

Perish the thought that such products should be marketed as girly "makeup". Instead, they're sold as a scientific skincare/cosmetic hybrid that will enable a smooth shave (because you're butch and hairy) or stop you looking hungover (because you've been down the pub like a proper lad). As long as they're invisible and your mates won't take the mick, fine. For further acceptability, they'll invariably be called "Camouflage", "Xtreme Sport" or "Facial Fuel", and designed to look like Halford's engine oil.

So do real men wear makeup? Pre-teen sex pixie Styles is one thing. When that other Harry, the ginger prince, starts trowelling on the slap, we'll know it's time to reach for the powder puff.

Jennifer Lopez's Stalker Spent Six Nights In Her Hamptons Home Undetected

Jennifer Lopez had an unexpected and uninvited guest stay in her Hamptons home.

John Dubis, a 49-year-old former fireman, allegedly settled into the guest house of J.Lo’s $10 million Water Mill home in early August for six days without being noticed by Lopez's security guards, reports the Southampton Patch. Dubis slept on a couch and parked his car out front in plain sight of her security, according to sources.

According to the New York Post, a Lopez employee finally spotted him and confronted him on Aug. 8. The accused stalker tried to claim he was the divorced singer’s husband and he told the police that he was the father of J.Lo's children, so she had been allowing him to stay in the pool house. He was taken in for psychiatric evaluation.

Pompeii Trailer

Kit Harington goes shirtless and shows off his ripped six pack abs in the teaser trailer for his new film Pompeii.

Here is the film’s synopsis (via Yahoo! Movies): Pompeii “centers around the ancient Roman town-city near modern Naples that was mostly destroyed and buried under 13 to 20 feet of ash following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. … an event that makes the love affair between a slave (Harington) and young maiden (Emily Browning) even more complicated.”

Pompeii, which also stars Kiefer Sutherland, Carrie-Ann Moss, Jared Harris, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Jessica Lucas, will hit theaters in February 2014.

Idris Elba Will Headline BBC Racing History Documentary 'Idris Elba: King of Speed'

The seemingly always busy and active Idris Elba will topline a new 2-part documentary that will see him travel the world looking at the history of motorcar racing. Currently titled Idris Elba: King Of Speed, the BBC2 doc series will highlight the colorful political, social and historical evolution of racing, from prohibition to the present.

Southan Morris is producing and directing.

Shooting is currently underway, but no specified airdate yet.

It won't be the first time that Idris has fronted a documentary series for British TV. There was Channel 4's 2011 doc series How Hip Hop Changed The World, which was followed by the 2-hour doc, How Clubbing Changed the World, last year, 2012 - both toplined by Elba.

Coming up for Mr Elba, he stars as Nelson Mandela in the upcoming Long Walk To Freedom, just booked a lead role in Cary Fukunaga's film adaptation of Nigeria author Uzodinma Iweala’s bestselling debut novel Beasts of No Nation, co-stars with Sean Penn and Javier Bardem in director Pierre Morel's action thriller The Gunman, which is based on the novel, The Prone Gunman, by Jean-Patrick Manchette, co-stars in British playwright Debbie Tucker Green's upcoming drama Second Coming, and will produce a new UK feature titled One Square Mile, which will be directed by Michael Caton-Jones (The Jackal, Rob Roy).

He also returns in the upcoming sequel to Thor, and season 3 of his acclaimed TV drama series Luther, debuts in the USA this fall.

Like I said, he's busy.

Spike Lee's Kickstarter Ends, Raises $1,418,910, says He Will Set Up Kickstarter Endowment Fund.

Spike Lee Says He'll Set Up A Kickstarter Endowment To Fund Other Projects If His Is Profitable

In an August 12th live chat, discussing his mysterious Kickstarter-funded project, Spike Lee revealed, about a third of the way through it, that if this new joint of his makes a profit, he'll set up what he calls a Spike Lee Kickstarter Endowment, which will be used to back projects by other filmmakers, every quarter - as in, four times a year.

As you'll see in the video, he even encourages viewers to "write that down!" So write it down!

The one thing that Spike just might regret later, is how transparent this entire process has been for him. We all know exactly - to the penny - how much money was raised for the upcoming film, and he's made a few promises (including the one above), on video, that folks will likely remind him of in time. So after the film is made and it opens in theaters, I'm sure we'll all be watching its box office totals very closely - especially those who contributed to the campaign.

What "profit" looks like exactly in this case, I really don't know. How much of the film's profit will be put into this endowment, we don't know that yet either.

But we do know that the film's Kickstarter campaign ended earlier today, raising $1,418,910. But we also have to assume that this is strictly production funding, and doesn't include any P&A costs, no marketing, etc - essentially, money that will be spent after the film is made, and on its theatrical release.

Hypothetically, let's say it's a box office smash (relative to budget) earning $20 million in ticket sales. How much of that will go into the endowment? Again, we don't know that yet either.

Questions, questions... I have a few.

Still, I'd say that the gesture is the right one, all things considered. I think he's the first celebrity with a successful gazillion dollar Kickstarter campaign that has made this kind of an offer.

Third Album Success Stories: 10 Measuring Sticks For Katy Perry & Lady Gaga

We’ve all heard of the sophomore slump. You know, the dreaded second album that often shows diminishing returns or, in drastic cases, completely unravels an artist’s career. The good news for pop titans Katy Perry and Lady Gaga is that they have already successfully navigated that hurdle. As the dueling divas prepare to release their highly-anticipated third LPs (The Fame Monster registers as an EP), we’ve rummaged through the pop history books — ok, Googled wildly — to see what the gold standard for pop superstardom is.

Interestingly, the third album often represents a commercial and critical high-water mark for music’s elite. The shackles of expectation (from both label and fans) have largely been shed by that stage and many acts hit the ball out of the proverbial park. Shania Twain‘s third project sold 40 million copies, Beyonce‘s netted five Grammy awards and Madonna‘s produced five top 10 hits. How will Prism and ARTPOP compare to these success stories? Time will tell. In the meantime, see how the pop heavyweights that went before them measure up after the jump.

This Is Rooney Mara

Rooney Mara is not known for giving off the warmest of first impressions. Standoffish, aloof, icy, remote, guarded, distant, opaque, steely, impenetrable, unreadable: such tend to be the words used by journalists to describe their encounters with the actress, a less than inviting list of adjectives that I decide to lob at her the moment we meet in Manhattan. I figure my little ignoble stunt will put Mara on the defensive, stir up some deep-seated insecurities, maybe even provoke a flash of anger, all in the name of exposing some new, hidden dimension of the actress to the world.

“Yeah,” Mara says when I finish. “I kind of have a bad reputation, don’t I?”

Former Model Pregnant

We still can’t quite believe the news. Gemma Ward is having a baby. It has taken us a few days to come to terms with the fact that the long-awaited return to modelling will not be happening anytime soon. With a love of fashion that started around the time Ward began modelling, it meant we grew up with her as a fashion inspiration.

After such odd beginnings, involving a reality TV show, Ward hit the big time like noone else. Like all good modelling careers, Ward’s was boosted by an early affiliation with Prada. Miuccia saw something in her that Search for a Supermodel didn’t, and then the world was hers for the taking. Millions of shoots later, thousands of runway shows, and thirty-one Vogue covers, Gemma was one of the most in-demand models the world had ever seen.

After a much-publicised agency switch from Vivien’s to IMG earlier this year, Ward was slated for a major comeback. This involved media appearances post her role in The Great Gatsby, as well as a rumoured Vogue Australia cover. Neither happened, as it appeared Ward was camera shy after all this time away from the spotlight. Now that several sources have confirmed that Ward is pregnant, we can be sure we won’t be seeing her for a while.

Ward has shacked up with on-again, off-again boyfriend David Letts and is living between Perth and his hometown of Sydney’s Northern Beaches. We obviously congratulate Ward and Letts on their happy news, but are also feeling a pang of loss for the fashion world at large. We hope she will make the major comeback we have so hoped for post giving birth. There’s nothing like a hot model mumma to get the world talking.

'America Idol' Wants Scooter To Finger Next Kelly Clarkson

Some of the honchos at "American Idol" -- and Jennifer Lopez -- have been aggressively courting super-manager Scooter Braun because their research shows people don't care about the judges -- they want to watch the birth of the next big star.

Sources connected with the show tell us ... "A.I." execs believe the show has lost its way by sinking their fortunes on the judges. The research is clear -- viewers want to see the next Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood emerge from the pack.

The execs believe there is no one in music better to accomplish that task than Scooter Braun, who built careers for Justin Bieber, Carly Rae Jepsen, The Wanted, and many others. BTW, they're right. Braun's a genius.

But here's the rub ... Sources very close to Scooter tell TMZ ... he's flattered but has lots of doubts about doing the show. One of the biggest -- he's saying he likes being able "to go to the grocery store under the radar."

We're told the only way Scooter would even consider doing the show is if he could have management control of any contestant he chooses -- even the ones who don't win.

The likelihood he'd take the gig -- remote, but still possible.

Last week, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry both dropped singles off of their new albums, and in a feat that caused the pop-culture Internet to raise its collective over-painted eyebrow, Perry’s single dominated the charts. Her “Roar” was downloaded more than Gaga’s “Applause” by 525,000 to 225,000. (At the time, our Josh Duboff imagined Gaga’s reaction to this news.)
Over the weekend, my boyfriend, Cub, and I took a road trip and spent some time listening to the radio. We were agog, as we are every time we get in a car, at the repetitiveness of Top 40 stations everywhere. If we heard “Blurred Lines,” “Get Lucky,” and “Same Love” one time, we heard them 30. “Roar” was rolled out once or twice, but we didn’t hear “Applause” a single time. I played it for Cub on my phone, and he said he actually preferred the latter, even though it seemed like no one else did. I myself like “Roar”—it’s got “last stretch of a painful morning run” written all over it.

Your Guide to Understanding The Mortal Instruments

When the lead character of a would-be fantasy franchise says, "This is so confusing!" do we mere mortals have any hope of making sense of the story? Like so many other supernatural YA epics with love triangles, The Mortal Instruments has built a strong cult following over the course of five novels (plus one more on the way), which collectively detail the deep mythology of a world that involves magic, angels, demons, vampires, werewolves, warlocks, and quests to vanquish evil. Our way into this story comes via a teenage girl named Clary Fray, who suddenly discovers the Shadow World, a realm hidden from normal folks, when she witnesses three entities called Shadowhunters killing a demon posing, Grimm-like, as a club kid. With the first movie arriving in theaters today, Vulture put together a primer to help you make sense of it all.

Harry Styles expects Taylor Swift to write songs about him

Let the ex tunes begin! Writing chart-topping breakup hits is nothing new to Taylor Swift, and now one of her more recent famous exes — One Direction's Harry Styles — reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly that he fully expects the 23-year-old entertainer to use their past relationship as inspiration.

"It would be hypocritical for me to say she couldn't do it because everybody writes songs based on personal experience," the 19-year-old singer tells Us. "I can't say I'd have dated someone less famous to avoid it." The British heartthrob split from the "I Knew You Were Trouble" singer-songwriter in early January after a few months of dating.

Denying that he's nervous about getting the John Mayer treatment (Swift slammed the musician in the song "Dear John" off her third studio album Speak Now in 2010) the "What Makes You Beautiful" singer jokes, "at least she's a great songwriter!"

Swift may be his most high-profiled relationship to date, but Styles doesn't think being in the public eye makes a difference when it comes to dating.

"I think it's people, you like people for who they are, so I couldn't say I want to date someone less famous because of the hassle. You like who you like," he explains.

"I think relationships are hard enough, so I think you have to completely ignore everything from outside," he adds. "When you're in the opening stages of a relationship as it is, you're still under the pressure of getting to know everything about a person. If you have a lot of people from outside telling you what it is and they don't even know you, telling you what your relationship is, that's weird. So I think you sort of have to block it out and just have the relationship rather than think - we're having this relationship play out on magazine covers."

So, what does the singer look for in a girl? "Someone with a cute laugh and a good smile," he reveals. "Someone you can have fun with - I like someone who's up for doing stuff in terms of like, trying new things and going out new places. Not just someone who does nothing and wants to sit around."

Cillian Murphy, Helen McCrory etc. at gala screening of Peaky Blinders

She plays a family matriarch in her forthcoming BBC drama - but Helen McCrory looked far from motherly on Wednesday night when she joined her cast-mates at its official launch.

The 45-year-old actress was attending a gala screening of forthcoming historical series Peaky Blinders at London's BFI, where she was joined by fellow stars Cillian Murphy, Sophie Rundle and Annabelle Wallis.

Dressed in an eye-catching printed jumpsuit and strappy black Nicholas Kirkwood heels, Helen stood out as she posed for photos prior to the exclusive preview alongside her cast-mates.

While Helen and her female co-stars looked glam, Irish star Cillian – who takes a lead role in the forthcoming series – turned up looking low-key in an entirely black outfit comprised of jacket, V-neck sweater, skinny jeans and desert boots.

One of the biggest breakthrough artists in Latin music, Royce released his highly anticipated new song last month. Since then, "Darte Un Beso," off his third studio album, has been on high rotation on radio stations both in Puerto Rico and the U.S.

According to the Times, the single was the best "Hot Latin Songs" debut for any artist since Billboard started to include streaming, radio airplay and digital sales back in October. The song is currently at No. 1 on Billboard's "Latin Tropical Airplay" for a third consecutive week. It is also No. 1 on the "Latin Streaming Songs" chart.

Oscar De La Renta Tells Hillary Clinton to cut her hair.

The level of respect and admiration de la Renta has for Clinton is palpable in the designer's latest interview, with Bergdorf Goodman's Linda Fargo in Gotham magazine. Aside from stating the standard "I assume we will have a woman president soon," he added in two cents about Hillary's new hairdo. In response to Fargo's question "While we’re on the subject of Hillary—didn’t she say that whenever she wore one of your dresses, her husband would comment on how great she looked?" the designer answered, "Yes," only to quickly steer the conversation to what really mattered: Hillary Clinton's new haircut — or, more important, the fact that he planted the seed in her mind to get the fabulous chop. "Doesn’t she look great now? I told her a while back [when she was Secretary of State] she should cut her hair," he continues. "She said she couldn’t do it then because when she arrived in a foreign country and asked for a hairdresser, Homeland Security would have to check the person out. [Editor’s note: With long hair, she could style it herself.] But doesn’t she look fantastic now?" This is how to pull off a humblebrag, ODLR style.

Here are the Demi Lovato nude pics (kind of)

Demi Lovato leaked nudes hit the internet

There was a story floating around earlier this week that someone was offering Demi Lovato nude pics to the highest bidder (NSFW preview here). Radar turned her down, but Celebslam is still in negotiations with him. Here's what he told us:

We have nude/sexual photos of Demi Lovato and was wondering if you would like to buy them ... The girl in the middle row, last pic is our friend and is a girl Demi had a fling with for some time on and off.

So not only does this guy have nude pics of Demi, but he also claims that she's bisexual. Which is entirely plausible for someone who used to have a show on the Disney Channel. Jenna Jameson used to be a choir girl before she got her first Disney show, and look what happened to her. The source continues:

After Demi got with Wilmer our friend called it off because she didn't like being played, she sent me these pictures that Demi sent her as a joke and I have no use for them ... There are about 20 total, not all have indication they are of her except some have her tattoos in ones you cannot see the face.

Ben Affleck is 'Batman' for 'Man of Steel' Sequel

Argo director and star Ben Affleck is set to play Batman in the Man of Steel sequel pitting the two super heroes against one another.

The announcement was made by Warner Bros. this afternoon.

“Affleck and filmmaker Zack Snyder will create an entirely new incarnation of the character in Snyder’s as-yet-untitled project—bringing Batman and Superman together for the first time on the big screen and continuing the director’s vision of their universe, which he established in ‘Man of Steel,’ writes Warner Bros. in a press release.

Said Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production at Warner Bros. stated, “We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.”

Director Zach Snyder said, “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”

Added Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, “We are so thrilled that Ben is continuing Warner Bros.’ remarkable legacy with the character of Batman. He is a tremendously gifted actor who will make this role his own in this already much-anticipated pairing of these two beloved heroes.”

Batman VS Superman will hit theaters July 17, 2015. The announcement of a film starring both huge comic characters was made at San Diego Comic-Con last month. Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman for the movie.

Grading Teen Idols' Non-Franchise Careers

LOS ANGELES - “The Hunger Games“’ Liam Hemsworth is leaving the 12 Districts of Panem and striking off on his own in this Friday’s “Paranoia.”

Studio executives are waiting to see if the corporate espionage thriller announces Hemsworth as a budding A-lister or crashes in a crowded summer field of movies, pulling his star to earth with it.

Teen idols like Daniel Radcliffe, Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence have tried to expand their brands beyond the young-adult franchises that made them famous.

Sometimes, as in the case of Lawrence’s Oscar-winning work in “Silver Linings Playbook,” the actors have demonstrated that they have more to offer than “The Hunger Games” or “Twilight.” But others, such as Taylor Lautner, have failed to find follow-up projects that generated much heat at the multiplexes.

TheWrap pulls out its grade book to take a look at how the top teen idols have fared at the box office — outside their franchises. Since Hemsworth is newest to the game, we’ll save him for last.

A Former Prisoner On What “Orange Is The New Black” Gets Right — And What It Doesn’t

Jenji Kohan, the creator of Netflix’s new hit series Orange Is The New Black, had to grapple with a pretty serious conundrum: How do you make a compulsively watchable series about a milieu whose defining characteristic is boredom? And yet, the show’s writers have pulled it off.

Of course, they have had to take some liberties; the series is based on Piper Kerman’s memoir but is highly fictionalized. So what did they get right about prison life, and what did they miss?

Though my year in federal prison was quite unlike Piper Kerman’s — largely on account of the differences between men’s and women’s prisons — here’s my assessment of where Orange nailed it and where it missed the mark.

Behind the Candelabra II: Electric Boogaloo "Ex: Calvin Klein's BF is the Worst Lover I Ever Had"

On Monday, we ran an interview with Nick Gruber, Calvin Klein’s ex-boy toy. He discussed his impending Fashion Week sashay down the runway and his plans to get his extreme sports business off the ground. Nick also served us some whoppers, like the fact that he’s straight, but believes in love; he never planned on writing a tell-all book about the designer; and despite his recent fights and tantrums, he’s “a great, loving, caring person.” Well, the phone just rang, and it happened to be John Luciano, the 49-year-old man whom Nick had told us he never dated. John had some lovely things to say about that—and everything else, too.

Michael Musto gets the latest deets on the story that just keeps going and going and going...

First Listen: MGMT – ‘MGMT’

Hello! I’m here to tell you about the new album from MGMT. You may remember them from such hits as ‘Kids’, ‘Time To Pretend’, ‘Electric Feel’ and other songs that didn’t appear on their second album.

Which, let’s face it, is both completely accurate and a harsh assessment of the Brooklyn band’s career to date, which took a turn for the weird – relatively speaking, anyway – on their much-misunderstood second album, ‘Congratulations’.

That was a rough couple of years for a band that became a pop concern almost by mistake, but now they’re back and feeling positive about a third album which they say splits the difference between the two.

To celebrate their return, we thought we’d give you a quick run-down on what the new album sounds like, with some hopefully illuminating quotes from Andrew VanWyngaarden and Ben Goldwasser along the way.

The Mortal Instruments Opens with $3 Million

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, the latest supernatural film property based on a best-selling YA book series, debuted at No. 1 Wednesday with a tepid $3 million.

Starring Lily Collins as a girl who discovers she's part of a secret order of half-angel warriors, the supernatural pic is on course for a five-day debut in the $15 million range. It earned a B+ CinemaScore.

This weekend, City of Bones will have to battle Edgar Wright's dark comedy The World's End, headlined by Simon Pegg andNick Frost, and horror pic You're Next, which both open on Friday.

City of Bones is a major gamble for Germany's Constantin Films, which financed and produced the $60 million movie. Sony's Screen Gems acquired U.S. rights to the title, the first in a planned franchise. If it does prove soft in the U.S., Constantin is hoping to make up the difference overseas.

I don't have anything snarky to say. I can't say I'm surprised. Let's see what it means for the planned sequel.
