NHL stars blast Russia's anti-gay legislation

Count Henrik Zetterberg among those speaking up against Russia's ban of "homosexual propaganda."

The country has become a target of public outcry in recent days since it became known that its anti-gay law, passed in June, would apply for all athletes during the fast-approaching 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Many fear that the law, which prohibits homosexual propaganda around minors, could be used to arrest those simply showing gay pride or support of gay rights.

Zetterberg, the Detroit Red Wings captain who will likely represent Sweden in the Olympics, reportedly told Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet that the law is "awful, just awful."

Louis Tomlinson has revealed the band just ignores rumours surrounding their relationships.

The singer was joined by bandmates Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Niall Horan at a press conference for their new film This Is Us in London today along with director Morgan Spurlock.

When asked by one reporter about rumours that he and Harry are in a relationship, he replied: ‘It’s better to just ignore s*** like that.’

The ‘Larry’ rumours were brought up in a Channel 4 documentary, Crazy About One Direction, which was aired last week.

Star Wars: Episode VII Pushed To December 2015?

Some of the vagueness that surrounds Star Wars: Episode VII these days is probably a typical result of the J.J. Abrams "mystery box" strategy. But some of it is starting to seem suspicious, especially with the movie's complete absence from Disney's D23 convention, where studio chief Alan Horn only reiterated a planned 2015 release date. Huge 2015 tentpoles like The Avengers: Age of ULtron, Ant-Man, Bond 24 and The Fantastic Four all have confirmed their dates for the year, but Star Wars-- arguably the biggest of the bunch-- remained unclear. What's going on?

Badass Digest, digging through what they've heard from multiple sources, has a theory. They say that Disney has circled December 2015 for the Episode VII release date, with a bow on December 15 the most likely. Every previous Star Wars film has opened in May, so that would be a break with tradition, but mid-December has increasingly has become a solid spot to open big, fanboy-friendly entertainment as well. It's where Disney placed Tron: Legacy-- another attempt to revive a franchise from an earlier period-- and where Avatar opened on its way toward becoming the biggest film of all time. It's also a fair distance from the brutally crowded summer movie season, which is packed full of film's from Disney alone-- on top of Avengers 2 and Pirates 5, the studio also has the fairy tale revamp Cinderella coming in March and the new Pixar film Inside Out in mid-June. The mid-May space typically occupied by Star Wars isn't currently taken, but if Disney wants to give Age of Ultron as much breathing room as possible after its May 1 bow, they'd be smart to keep Star Wars out of the mix.

Given how many elements of the Star Wars legacy have been tweaked or trampled entirely since the prequels, the shift from a May to a December release date can't possibly be the worst thing that's ever happened to Star Wars fans. And the December date would give Abrams, who hinted ages ago that he wouldn't necessarily make the 2015 date happen, at least a few months to finish the movie. Many of us had speculated that Star Wars could be pushed out of 2015 entirely with enough pressure from Abrams, but Horn's statement at D23 seemed to at least confirmed they were committed to that year. Is the December push the best way to give both Abrams and his corporate bosses both what they want, while also keeping Star Wars out of the crowded summer season entirely? Find out when/if this release date-- or anything at all about Episode VII for that matter-- gets officially confirmed.

True Blood: What we'll be waiting for in Season 7

Last night's season finale wrapped up the drama, took us down the road six months and introduced more drama. Now that we've had a night to catch our breath, here's what we want to see in Season 7.

It's been a wild and rocky road through True Blood's Season 6. At times, we discovered that dumbfounded Jason Stackhouse expression plastered on our faces. In other moments, our eyebrows shot up our foreheads almost higher than Maxine Fortenberry's. Still, we made it through and watched the last moments of Season 6 as vampire/zombies stalked toward Bon Temps. As we rub our hands together maniacally, here are the topics we'll be waiting for in Season 7:

This lovely leading lady is no stranger to dropping trou (and blou) — in the name of art, of course. There were the sensual shots in Iris, all the sex in Little Children, and how could we forget the infamous naked drawing scene in Titanic? But, you really can't blame her for the latter — in 1997, just about any girl would have disrobed for Leonardo DiCaprio.

Tom Hiddleston talks Shakespeare... and Loki ... and Shakespeare

Tom Hiddleston as Prince Henry in Great Performances: The Hollow Crown

While Tom Hiddleston effortlessly oozes sex appeal whether he’s battling hunky on-screen brother Chris Hemsworth in the Thor and The Avengers films or, more recently, singing ‘Bare Necessities” at this past weekend’s D23 Disney Expo, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anything hotter than Hiddleston letting the written word of William Shakespeare fall from his oh-so-divine lips.

While playing Loki in the Marvel Studios films may get him buckets of exposure these days, spend some time sitting across from the engaging Hiddleston talking about his role as King Henry V in PBS’s Great Performances: The Hollow Crown miniseries next month, as this reporter did recently, and you’ll see the Brit’s eyes light up and his enthusiasm become more than a little intoxicating.

The Hollow Crown, which begins September 20th on PBS, features productions of Shakespeare’s Richard II, Henry IV, Part 1 and 2 and Henry V. Besides Hiddleston, other actors in the various productions include Ben Whishaw, Patrick Stewart, David Morrissey, Jeremy Irons, Michelle Dockery, Simon Russell Beale and Julie Walters.

Tye Sheridan joins "Dark Places"

Here’s a film we haven’t heard about in some time. ”Dark Places” originally started making casting announcements earlier this year when they revealed that Chloe Moretz and Nicholas Hoult had joined Charlize Theron in the production. Then, just when it seemed like things were picking up, the news stopped coming.

However, now we finally have a new casting announcement. This time in the form of a young newcomer to Hollywood. Tye Sheridan, who recently starred in “Mud”, has joined the cast as Ben: a “16-year old accused of molesting young girls and murdering his family before being sentenced to life in prison.”

The film is currently being written and directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner, a French-director whose previous films include “Sarah’s Key” and “Walled In.” ”Dark Places” is based off a book written by Gillian Flynn about Libby Day (Charlize Theron) a woman who is forced to re-face the twenty year old massacre of her family when a group known as the “Kill Club” begins to investigate what really happened the day Libby’s family was murdered.

Katy Perry wants you choose her next single

Pepsi and Katy Perry Ask Twitter Users to Pick Her Next Single Soda, music star, MTV use social for the VMAs

When Katy Perry takes the mic for a song during Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards, the cable channel will temporarily shift focus from inside the event's arena—Brooklyn's Barclays Center—to her performance's secret "iconic location" in the New York City borough. Considering Perry's penchant for tweet-worthy outfits, coupled with the outdoor scenery, Twitter will likely buzz with chatter about the pop star's antics.

Pepsi, a major sponsor for the Viacom event, plans to own the moment in terms of branding as it has forged a partnership with Perry that includes a social-media twist. The soda brand, singer and MTV will encourage people to use the hashtag #Katynow to unlock clues about her forthcoming, full-length album, Prism. Clues will involve song titles and lyrics as well as video messages from the performer about the inspiration behind her tunes.

Throughout the weekend, people can vote on one of two songs from the album by tweeting the title along with #KatyNow. The winning song will be revealed on MTV moments before Perry's VMA performance and then become available as her next single on Sept. 17 (though the entire album goes to market in mid-October). During the VMAs, Perry will sing her first release from the record, Roar, which has been a veritable hit in terms of paid downloads so far.

Thomas Gibson and his wife have been separated for two and a half years

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

"Criminal Minds" star Thomas Gibson wasn't pulling a fast one on his wife by conducting an online relationship with a shameless catfisher -- sources tell TMZ, the actor and his wife have been separated for years.

Sources close to the couple tell us, Gibson and his estranged wife Christine Gibson still live together for the sake of their children, but they've been separated for 2-and-a-half years ... six months before Thomas started messing around with one of his Twitter fans.

As we reported, Gibson and the woman -- who catfished him by posing as a porn star -- carried on a heated relationship for two years before Gibson discovered the entire thing was a sham ... he even sent her a sexy hot tub video (it's hilarious).

Bottom line: Gibson might be a sucker ... but he's no cheater.

Selena Gomez Soothes Her Aching Legs with Giant Ice Packs

She's just five concerts into her 58-date Stars Dance tour, but the ice packs are already out for Selena Gomez!

"Now, I hurt. Everywhere," the pop star wrote on Instagram overnight next to a photo of herself reclining wearily in her private jet while icing both legs following a show in Winnipeg.

And no wonder – the 21-year-old's concerts are said to be a whirlwind of dance routines, for which she rehearsed eight hours a day leading up to the tour.

"I think the dancing is what I'm most nervous about because I'm such a perfectionist," she told MTV earlier this month.

"Two of my best friends are actually on that stage with me that are dancers and have been dancing for years, so I want to keep up with them. That's been challenging. It's great, and I feel like I've been working out, which I feel I need to do more of."

Is she really doing all that much tho? She seems like she's only 1 level above Gaga or Femme Fatale Britney dancing efforts. This video isn't impressing me and I'm not just talking about the lipsynching.

Author John Green will make a cameo in 'The Fault In Our Stars' movie.

The Fault in Our Stars
author John Green says he has accepted an invitation to make a cameo in the highly-anticipated book-to-film adaptation.

Speaking to his hometown paper The Indianapolis Star, Green gave a short but sweet “yes” response when asked if he would appear in the movie. He added that the film’s producers and director Josh Boone reached out to the author to make the cameo.

Green didn’t say at which point he’ll make an appearance in the storyline, and we don’t know if he will only be in the background or if he’ll have a speaking line. Either way, readers will be thrilled to see him show up in his story.

Elsewhere in the interview Green said it was “frustrating” that the book’s setting of Indianapolis couldn’t be used for filming. They will instead shoot in Pittsburgh where film tax credits are offered.

He also praised actress Shailene Woodley, who will play Hazel Grace. “You’re not allowed to be weird in Hollywood, because it’s bad for your career to be weird,” the author said. “And so, I feel like every image we get of every actor and actress is so sort of vanilla-fied. Even really lovely people whose personalities come out at times, it’s really difficult to sense them as people.

“Shailene is the exact opposite. She is unabashedly herself and weird and passionate,” he said.

How True Is The Butler?

A few days after Barack Obama was elected president in 2008, the Washington Post published an article about a black butler who served in the White House for 34 years, under eight presidents, from Truman to Reagan. Eugene Allen represented, as journalist Wil Haygood wrote, “a story from the back pages of history. A figure in the tiniest of print. The man in the kitchen.”

“He was there,” Haygood continued, “while America’s racial history was being remade: Brown v. Board of Education, the Little Rock school crisis, the 1963 March on Washington, the cities burning, the civil rights bills, the assassinations.” Allen undoubtedly lived a fascinating life, meeting countless historical figures during especially polarizing times, and it’s unsurprising that Haygood’s profile caught the eye of Hollywood. It is now the basis for Lee Daniels’ The Butler (the director’s name is included thanks to silly copyright claims made by Warner Bros).

But as interesting as Haygood’s profile is, “A Butler Well Served by This Election” doesn’t provide that many details about Allen’s time in the White House outside a handful of facts and humorous anecdotes. (Allen’s wife Helene referred affectionately to former First Lady Rosalynn Carter as “country,” for instance.) The Butler is a bit more than 2 hours long, spans several decades, and includes multiple storylines. It’s fair to say it has epic ambitions.

So how much of Allen’s real-life experience actually made it into the film?

Not much. According to Daniels’ foreword in The Butler: A Witness to History, a book by Haygood published to accompany the film, the movie “is set against historical events,” but “the title character and his family are fictionalized.” The skeleton of Allen’s story is there: the childhood on a plantation in the early 1920s, the interactions with several presidents. But the names have been changed: Allen and his wife, Helene, are called Cecil and Gloria Gaines. (They’re played by Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey.) At least one key character, Cecil’s son Louis (David Oyelowo), is entirely made up.

The following breakdown is based on Haygood’s profile and the accompanying book. (I have emailed Haygood and will update the post if he provides additional information.) Spoilers follow.

Collapse )

Yes, movies always take creative licenses and the director even wrote in the forward of the book that the character was fictionalized, but I find it more interesting that there wasn't many if any White saviors helping the real butler out.

This Is NOT Another GodGa Post. This Is A Snowpiercer / Le Transperceneige / 설국열차 Picture Megapost!

OP: We're almost at the closing end of August, and we are still no closer to finding out when "Snowpiercer" will arrive in our theaters. Plus, there is still that looming threat of The Weinstein Company rearing their ugly head with the film editing controversy that surfaced roughly two weeks ago. Despite these setbacks, director Bong Joon-Ho's visionary work has seen several bright spots of positivity. The Korean auteur's first English-language international effort has broken box office records in his home country, both fans and film critics lucky enough to see the film being screened in Korea were all abuzz with the movie, and perhaps the best news of all--the sci-fi extravaganza has been given the full blessing and effusive praise from the original French authors of the source material when they visited Korea for an international comic convention and were given a special screening of their work come to life on the big screen.

With a stellar ensemble cast of actors from across three continents, "Snowpiercer" is certainly one of the most highly anticipated film releases ready to enthrall the rest of the world outside of Korea. So while we continue to patiently (or impatiently) wait for "Snowpiercer" to satisfy our moviegoing needs, here's a lovely megapost to tide you over until official word comes out from The Weinstein Company with regards to a confirmed release date in all major film territories, as well as whether director Bong will conform to the demands of Harvey Weinstein to trim down twenty minutes of footage in order for the film to be more "understandable" for audiences in Middle America.

But I digress... Enjoy these slew of photos featuring the cast and crew of "Snowpiercer", as well as brand new film stills from the movie plus exclusive concept art that gives insight to the creative process in making the world of "Snowpiercer" come to life. And a special bonus goes out to some select European contingents of ONTD with regards to "Snowpiercer" at the very end, so click the cut under the preview images to discover more details!

When you’ve got that sort of power at that young age, and everything at your doorstep, you put out that bad boy image. At that age, testosterone, hormones, all of the money, you see what else you can get away with. He’s also doing a lot of charity work."

His Advice for the singer? "Do not believe your own publicity. Sussing out who your real friends are is full-time work. Every scum bag, every drug dealer, every chicken hawk wants a piece of you"

James Franco’s ‘Interior. Leather Bar’ Gets U.S. Distribution

Strand Releasing has acquired James Franco and Travis Mathews' erotic drama Interior.

The film, which premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and Berlin Film Festival, is inspired by the rumored 40 minutes of gay S&M footage that was edited out of William Friedkin's 1980 thriller Cruising.

Friedkin's 1980 film sent Al Pacino undercover into the gay S&M subculture to hunt a serial killer. Franco and Mathews' film is an imaginary version of what the 40 minutes of unseen footage could have looked like. The film has a mix of gay and straight actors, with Franco's straight friend Val Lauren playing the Pacino character. Franco and Mathews also appear in the film.

At Sundance, THR's film critic John DeFore wrote of the film: "Offering a lower nutjob-entertainment factor than Franco's recent festival exploit Francophrenia, but more credible as an artistic statement, the film isn't as provocative as some may expect, which will probably suit the actor's fans just fine."

"I am so excited and pleased that this unusual film has found the perfect home. We are so proud of this and happy to be working with Strand Releasing" said Franco. Travis Mathews added that, "Strand has a long history of pioneering queer art films that challenge the norms of the day; we really couldn't ask for a better fit for our film."

Strand is planning a late 2013/early 2014 release.

"Only Lovers Left Alive" Starring Kween Tilda and King Hiddles Gets A UK Distributor

Soda Pictures has nabbed UK and Irish rights to Jim Jarmusch’s vampire drama "Only Lovers Left Alive" from HanWay Films.

Tilda Swinton, Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska, John Hurt, Anton Yelchin and Jeffrey Wright star in the Cannes competition entry.

It’s a very exciting acquisition for us, to work with such great talent and such a fun, beautiful and timeless, yet timely and almost omniscient, film,” said Soda managing director Eve Gabereau.

The deal was negotiated between Gabereau and HanWay Films’ Chiara Gelardin alongside producer and Recorded Picture Company head Jeremy Thomas.

Set in Detroit and Tangiers, the film follows the love affair between an underground musician (Hiddleston) and his enigmatic lover (Swinton), which becomes interrupted by her wild younger sister (Wasikowska).

Soda will release "Only Lovers Left Alive" in early 2014.

The American distributor for this better not be The Weinstein Company or else this vampire film will be edited and dumbed down for the "Twatlight" loving hordes in Middle America.

The Writers' Room for Doctor Who Series 8 Is A Sausage Fest With or Without Neil Gaiman

Neil Gaiman will return to write another Doctor Who episode, though he may not make it in time for series 8...

2013 has been a bumper year so far for Neil Gaiman fans, with a new novel, The Ocean At The End Of The Lane, picture book, Chu's Day, children's book, Fortunately, The Milk, BBC radio adaptation of Neverwhere, and earlier this year, Doctor Who episode Nightmare In Silver. Add to that continued talk of in-development Sandman and American Gods adaptations, and it seems our Gaiman cups runneth over. (Gaiman cups are recognisable by their black colour, twisted handle, and ability to exist in both your dishwasher and a parallel dream realm).

Promoting all of the above has taken time. So much time that whether or not Gaiman will be able to squeeze in a Doctor Who episode for series eight is under question. Speaking to Doctor Who Online, Gaiman confirmed, "They would like to have me, I would like to do more. The only problem I'm having right now is the time that I probably would have spent writing a Doctor Who script this year suddenly was eaten by going on tour."

"I would love to write an episode for season eight." He continued, "It may well be that I'm over in season nine, but I promise I haven't gone away."

So that's Neil Cross, Jack Lothian, possibly Chris Chibnall (if Broadchurch series two doesn't stop him), potentially Neil Gaiman, and of course Steven Moffat so far on the cards for Doctor Who series eight. Fingers crossed those names will soon be joined by some new blood including a few from our pick of potential Who screenwriters, here...

James Franco is starring in the film as a man responsible for the death of a young boy who channels his guilt into a successful writing career. As he gets more famous, however, he represses and rejects the emotional connection he has to the boy's brother and mother in the years after the accident.

Charlotte Gainsbourg is playing the boy’s mother, while Robert Naylor is playing the brother, who 10 years after the accident, reaches out to the man who killed his sibling.

McAdams will play Franco’s girlfriend, who has to deal with his deteriorating mental health. Sarah Polley was initially slated to play the part but a deal never solidified.

The movie began shooting in Montreal last week.

Kelly Clarkson on Step-Parenthood: I 'Really Dig the Mom Thing'

Kelly Clarkson isn't set to wed music manager Brandon Blackstock for another two months, but she is already relishing one aspect of her soon-to-be-married life: step-parenthood."I have a 12-year-old and a six-year-old now ... after being single for six years," the singer, 31, told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show, On Air with Ryan Seacrest, Tuesday."We all live together and everything," she explains. "It's so different, but it's perfect. They're awesome, and I actually really dig the mom thing."

But don't expect Clarkson to be an overindulgent stepmom. Just like her lyrics repeatedly demonstrate, she is no pushover. (Perhaps that's one reason she has teamed up with State Farm to educate teens about safe driving.)"I'm quick to go, 'I told you not to touch that!' " she said with a laugh. "We all work really well together, but I'm totally my mom. My mom was a hard mom. I'm probably that mom."Clarkson will officially earn the title "stepmother" in late October when she swaps vows with Blackstock at their Nashville home. The Stronger singer has long made it clear she will be a laid-back bride, and it appears she's becoming increasingly blasé as the wedding draws near.

"I'm so over it. It's so overwhelming," she admitted to Seacrest. "We're just doing a lot: touring and the wedding and the Christmas album [out Oct. 29], so I'm over the wedding part."But one thing's for sure: she is nowhere near over Blackstock."It's not a try-hard situation," she says of their relationship. "It's just easy. It's work – after a year and a half that puppy phase [is over] and reality starts to set in – but it's fun work. We're very similar. It's easy.",,20727075,00.html

Why “Applause” Rules: 7 Reasons You’re Underestimating Lady Gaga’s Hit

By Louis Virtel

The new video for Lady Gaga‘s cuckoo ARTPOP lead single, “Applause,” is the shadowy, makeup-smeared spectacle you expected, and a cynic may say it’s time to give Ms. Gaga the new moniker “Bjork for Dummies.” But after listening to “Applause” for the trillionth time, I can assure you that Lady Gaga is still way more interesting than any other currently cavorting pop star, and we should respect this song’s joy and weirdness in kind. Here are seven reasons why.

1. The David Bowie vocal quaver is awesome.

As soon as Gaga arrived on the scene in 2008, she was clear about who her pop idols were: Madonna, Queen, Sinead O’Connor, and David Bowie. She was specific about her fandom, and I think that means she’s qualified to reference their vocal stylings more than five years into her enormous career. I love the Bowie-esque quaver in her voice on the vocals, and not just because it’s a fun reference. She can pull them off vocally because Lady Gaga has the best singing voice (and most versatile?) of any superstar today. AND David Bowie’s “Fame” period is obviously a proper ancestor to Gaga’s career. How about that.

Because of the 5 item rule on here, I've included what I think are the writer's best points about the song/video. And I'm just curious to know which parts were your favorite and which you felt the video could have done well without and how do you rank it against Gaga's previous music videos?

Lindsay Lohan "Oprah" interview is a ratings BOMB!

TV Ratings: Lindsay Lohan Fails to Boost 'Oprah's Next Chapter'! The troubled actress' sit-down with Winfrey on Sunday's "Oprah's Next Chapter" barely averaged 1 million viewers to the premiere telecast. The one-hour OWN broadcast averaged 892,000 viewers to the 9 p.m. premiere telecast. The 10 p.m. encore averaged 504,000 viewers.

In the cable network's core women 25-54 demo, the 9 p.m. airing drew a 0.66 rating, while the 10 p.m. encore averaged a 0.35. Winfrey's Oprah's Next Chapter sit-down with Whitney Houston's family in March 2012 is still OWN's most-watched effort for the network, drawing 3.5 million viewers. The first part of disgraced biker Lance Armstrong's January interview with Winfrey is close behind with a strong 3.2 million. Third is Rihanna's interview with the talk show maven in August 2012, which averaged 2.5 million.

This Image from Spike Lee's "Oldboy" Unveils Samuel L. Jackson's Wild New Mohawk Look

Released in 2003, acclaimed South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook's Oldboy is widely regarded as one of the best movies of the new millennium, and rightfully so. Loosely based on the Japanese manga series written Garon Tsuchiya and illustrated by Nobuaki Minegishi, Chan-wook's film is a hardcore revenge thriller that's equal parts unapologetically gruesome and artfully executed. It's also kind of balls-to-the-wall genre flick that both stuffed-shirt critics and lively fanboys can love together. And it's also a film so universally cherished that it could only be re-imagined by a bold and, most importantly, fearless director.

Lucas Cruikshank -- the viral video star who played the ultra-hyper "Fred" character in a Nickelodeon movie and several shows  -- has revealed he's gay ... and naturally, he posted his coming out video on YouTube.

The 19-year-old actor made the announcement during a short clip with his friend Jennifer Veal -- who starred in the Disney Channel show, "Jessie."

During the video, Lucas says his closest friends and family members have known about his sexuality for years ... but he never felt the need to make an announcement to the world.

At one point, Lucas turns to Jennifer and asks, "How come you didn't have to make a video saying you're straight?"

FYI -- Lucas shot to superstardom by creating several YouTube videos featuring his annoying "Fred" character ... who had a crush on a girl named Judy.  For some reason, they never hooked up.

Music video for STRFKR'S "While I'm Alive"

In college, I had an insane, dumb policy to see every single band with "Fuck" in their name that rumbled through the sleepy little village of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. This led to me seeing some godawful motherfucking bands. But also, it led to me seeing some great bands like Fucked Up, Fuck Buttons, and one Starfucker, who are currently about to embark upon a massive tour that starts at FYF Fest in Los Angeles and will end at the gates of Valhalla (Or, y'know, San Francisco. Potato/Potah-toe, really.) We're psyched to premiere their newest music video for "While I'm Alive," off of Februrary's Miracle Mile. Check the tour dates below, and if they're not coming to your town, you should probably move.

Taylor Swift holds record for most sold-out shows at Staples Center for a solo artist

Taylor Swift has brought her Red tour to Los Angeles, and beyond the fact that she’s returning to the city where she’s spent considerable quality time onstage, in the studio and just hanging out, Swift’s stint at Staples Center this week has earned her a special distinction.

When she closes out her fourth sold-out show at the arena Saturday, she’ll claim the record for the solo artist with the most sellouts at Staples, with 11.

Following her opening show tonight, Aug. 19, she’ll surpass Madonna and Justin Timberlake, who each have logged seven sellouts at the arena, and she’ll top Britney Spears' previous record of eight sellouts with Tuesday’s concert.

After Saturday, she’ll be tied with Latin pop group Mana for the most overall sellouts, with 11, for which she’s being feted Tuesday afternoon by Staples Senior Vice President and General Manager Lee Zeidman and officials from Red tour promoter the Messina Group.

The ceremony will be attended by 20 college students who are taking part in the Recording Academy’s GrammyU program, and they’ll also get to drop in on her afternoon soundcheck and receive a backstage tour.

Swift’s “Red” album has sold 3.8 million copies since it was released last fall.

Plot Details For The Expendables 3 Emerge & First Set Pics

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Sylvester Stallone's third aging action hero mash-up movie, The Expendables 3, is shooting in Bulgaria right now, so the typical flood of illegal paparazzi snaps are sure to invade the internet soon. But before they do, here are some official details from Lionsgate and Sly himself.

Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews and Arnold Schwarzenegger will return. Conspicuous by their absence are Mickey Rourke, Chuck Norris and, of course, Bruce Willis.

> Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford are the all-star newcomers. Dismiss those Nic Cage and/or Jackie Chan fantasies from your mind except to pray that they appear in The Expendables 4 (if they make The Expendables 4).
> The slightly less all-star names also joining the cast include Kellan "Emmett Cullen in Twilight" Lutz, MMA star Ronda Rousey, welterweight boxing champion Victor Ortiz and 24-year-old young 'un Glen Powell.
> The director of 2010 western Red Hill, Patrick Hughes, is helming the threequel, replacing Expendables 2's Simon West (of Con Air fame).
> The writers of Olympus Has Fallen, Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt, have written this one with Stallone himself.

And now... the plot. Y'all ready for this?

Katy Perry beats Gaga in the singles race, but Britney may best them both

Hear that "Roar?"

That's the sound of Katy Perry's new single with that title blowing by Lady Gaga's new single "Applause."

According to Billboard, Perry is on track to sell 525,000 to 550,000 downloads of her song while Gaga is projected to sell between 200,000 and 225,000. The official numbers will be released on Wednesday.

And not only do the pair have the charts in common, but they also will be taking to the airwaves for the same event. Gaga will open the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday and Perry is also scheduled to perform. Perry's collaborator, Bonnie McKee, told MTV that her friend's new single is just a preview of what to expect from her upcoming album, Prism, which will be released in October.

"It's kind of like every song is its own little movie, so this is 'Rocky' and also kind of jungle-y and cat-themed,"McKee said. "And then each song has its own little movie and its own visual to go along with it."

So the battle of the pop princesses rages on, though they both may need to watch their backs.

That's because it's Britney...we won't say the word, but Britney Spears is getting fans ready for something with a countdown clock that has now taken over on her official site and the words "All Eyes On Me." Fans can sign up for mailing list that we suppose will deliver news of what folks are predicting will be information about her upcoming album.

Barefoot Contessa stomps on the lessers w/ best-selling cookbook of 2013. Isn't that fabulous?

Ina Garten’s been keeping a quiet year for a food personality: no television reality shows, no random appearances on Watch What Happens Live!, no racism scandals. But even though she hasn’t been Dominating The News Cycle, she’s still one of America’s most beloved cooking teachers: a Publishers Weekly article/thinly-veiled PR release revealed that she’s already sold the most cookbooks in 2013.

Handily trouncing Michael Pollan’s heavily-publicized Cooked and Jamie Deen’s From Mama’s Table to Mine, Garten’s Barefoot Contessa Foolproof has sold 114,951 hardcover copies in 2013 (between January 1st and July 7th). The numbers don’t reveal whether Deen’s book experienced an uptick in sales after Mama Paula Deen lost her many contracts, including an upcoming cookbook that was guaranteed to be a bestseller until her publisher cancelled it. In any case, though, Garten beat Deen’s puny paperback by 28,172 copies, which, dang.

Garten also beat Mark Bittman, The Pioneer Woman’s Ree Drummond (who still managed to land two books on the list), and the entirety of Weight Watchers, which is a feat in and of itself. It seems that no matter what, America will always trust the woman who lives in a beautiful Connecticut mansion and always smells like bruschetta, over the woman who decides to tell the world about her sex life or the woman who forgets that racism is not cool.

Dr. Luke Is In Talks To Be Third Judge On American Idol Season 13, Out

There might be a new judge in town! Dr. Luke may be joining American Idol in its 13th season, a source tells Us Weekly. The 39-year-old American songwriter and record producer (real name: Lukasz Gottwald) has been in talks in becoming the third judge for the FOX series.

“Kanye thinks what that woman did was straight trifling,” the source adds. “If you feel a certain way about someone, be real and don’t sugarcoat it.”

Courtney Stodden Joins Celebrity Big Brother U.K.

Attention Celebrity Big Brother fans!

Courtney Stodden is hoping across the pond to spice up the hit show.

While the cast of the new season of U.K.'s Celebrity Big Brother has not been announced, a source exclusively tells E! News the teen bride will be one of the celebrity contestants.

Which of course means there'll be plenty more skin, skimpy outfits and words of wisdom to come from the 18-year-old stunner (can't wait!).

So will the blond bombshell's hubby, Doug Hutchison, be joining the show (à la Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt last season)? Nope! The insider adds Doug will not be living in the house with Courtney.

A rep for Stodden declined to comment on the casting rumors.

Stodden—who is apparently already embracing her role on the Channel 5 show—was spotted wearing a Manchester United jersey in Los Angeles on Saturday en route to LAX for a flight to London. "In the plane & ready for takeoff ... here I come!," she coyly tweeted Saturday, posting no further clues about her trip.

Courtney's casting comes on the heels of Bobbi Kristina Brown's reported exit after the 20-year-old daughter of the late Whitney Houston apparently dropped out due to alleged online abuse she received over her decision to become a castmember.

Additional contestants rumored to be joining the hit show include model Sophie Anderton, Geordie Shore's Charlotte Crosby and former Coronation Street star Bruce Jones.

Celebrity Big Brother kicks off Thursday at 9 p.m.

Struggle on a hundred, thousand, trillion

Meet the Ramen Burger

While a line formed in the West Village on Saturday morning for a cronut, there was another line in Brooklyn, forming for the past three hours in the hot sun of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They were all there for the Ramen Burger, the newest craze to take over the New York food scene.

Keizo Shimamoto , the creator of the Ramen Burger, was smiling, “I have no idea how this happened,” he said. “It’s crazy.”

Before Shimamoto had sold even a single burger, the press had created the hype, so when he finally showed up at the Brooklyn flea market Smorgasburg last week to sell the 150 burgers he had prepped, the line was over 250 people deep. He’s planning to be there on Saturdays; the flea market runs through Nov. 24.

The Ramen Burger is an all-beef patty, sandwiched between two ramen noodle “buns.” It’s garnished with a secret Shoyu sauce, arugula and green onions. The flavor is a salty-sweet combination, but the texture of the buns is what makes this burger so enticing.

“I experimented with different recipes to get the perfect bun. People think it’s crispy because they see it on the grill, but when you bite into it you notice that the noodles are still quite soft.” But it doesn’t break apart. Why? “That’s a secret,” says Shimamoto.

Shimamoto is a second-generation American from Los Angeles. Previously employed as a programmer, he quit his job to pursue his passion of ramen, taking him to Tokyo. ”They have Ramen Burgers there, but they don’t use beef patties, I wanted to bring the two together here in New York.”

Jack White, Marcus Mumford to Headline 'Llewyn Davis' Benefit

Jack White, Joan Baez, Marcus Mumford and the Avett Brothers are among the big names set to headline an upcoming benefit show around the forthcoming film Inside Llewyn Davis, the New York Times reports. Organized by T Bone Burnett, the September 29th concert at Town Hall in New York will benefit the National Recording Preservation Foundation, which helps underwrite efforts to protect music and radio archives.

Inside Llewyn Davis follows a week-long snippet in the life of a young folk musician, loosely based on the late singer and guitarist Dave Van Ronk, reaching for recognition in Greenwich Village in the winter of 1961. Naturally, Burnett will feature live performances with songs from the early Sixties that inspired the film, as well as music from the movie.

"We decided to do a concert to bring together the community that had done the music," Burnett said, "So there would be some synergy between the music and the film." Other artists set for the show include Colin Meloy of the Decemberists, Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes, the Punch Brothers, Rhiannon Giddens of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Milk Carton Kids and Lake Street Drive. Patti Smith, Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings will also appear, and actor Oscar Isaac – who plays Llweyn Davis in the film – will perform as well. "The idea was to round up the best of these young musicians to come up and do a show around this music," Burnett said.

Burnett was quite familiar with Inside Llewyn Davis directors Joel and Ethan Coen, having collaborated a few times before and produced the soundtrack for their 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Thou?; the album won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2002.

Tickets for the Inside Llewyn Davis show will go on sale at noon on Wednesday via Ticketmaster. Inside Llewyn Davis will open in theaters December 6th, and its soundtrack will be released on September 17th.

Elizabeth Olsen up for Scarlet Witch after Saoirse Ronan turns it down

According to my sources, Saoirse Ronan has passed on the role of Wanda Maximoff, The Scarlet Witch, in The Avengers: Age of Ultron despite being, at some point or another, Joss Whedon‘s top pick for the role.

Unfazed, however, Whedon and Marvel then moved their attentions on to Elizabeth Olsen.

I always feel awkward reporting on these “second choice” moments, but then I remember how Harrison Ford probably hasn’t ever woken up in a cold sweat from a Tom Selleck nightmare and I feel a bit better about it.

Olsen is a great choice, I think, because she’s a pretty good choice for anything. The girl can act, she’s got charisma and she’s smart.

Now, the concept of Wanda that Whedon is playing with can’t incorporate the part of her comic book history where – surprise! – Magneto was revealed to be her father. He’s got everything else to play with, however, not to mention whatever he can invent himself.

As I understand it, Olsen would need to adopt a “European” accent for the role, but that’s not such a big deal. Tougher will be standing her ground amidst an established cast of top-drawer actors and crowd pleasers that everybody in the audience already loves from the first Avengers film, not to mention their own pictures.

But then, she’s pretty darn likeable, and it’s reputedly a real scene-stealer of a part, so…

In short, I think it’s coming up roses for the Scarlet Witch. Now let’s see if Olsen ends up officially signed on…

Production on The Avengers: Age of Ultron should kick off in the first few weeks of 2014. We’ll next be seeing Olsen in Kill Your Darlings – for a few scenes anyway – Oldboy, Therese, and Godzilla.

Big Brother season 12 winner Hayden Moss to be on Upcoming Survivor season

Earlier this summer, Jeff Probst officially broke the news on Entertainment Weekly Radio that the 27th season of Survivor — titled Blood Vs. Water — would feature returning Survivor players and their loved ones. And now we can officially reveal that one of those pairs will be Survivor: One World’s Kat Edorsson and her boyfriend, Big Brother season 12 champ Hayden Moss. While players from both Survivor and Big Brother have appeared on fellow CBS reality competition show The Amazing Race — and a relative of Survivor’s Russell and Brandon Hantz, Willie, played on last summer’s Big Brother — Hayden will become the first person to have appeared on both programs. has also learned that this is not Hayden’s first brush with Survivor. In fact, he was very close to being cast on the show before he ended up on Big Brother in the summer of 2010. “We met with him for Survivor,” reveals host Jeff Probst. “He made it all the way to our finals. Hayden and I met. We were in the room talking and for whatever reason, I can’t even remember now, it just didn’t work out. Either we had somebody like him, I don’t know. And the next thing I know he’s on Big Brother! If you had just waited five minutes we would have put you on Survivor!” Evidently, the wait was worth it, as Hayden not only won $500,000 on Big Brother, but now gets to go for the full million when Survivor: Blood vs. Water premieres with a special 90-minute episode on Sept. 18 at 8pm on CBS.

“Bob’s Burgers” is the most sex-positive show on TV

If you’ve never seen “Bob’s Burgers,” the particulars alone might keep you from tuning in when its fourth season begins on Aug. 25. It’s an animated show on Fox, for starters, sandwiched between banality (“Family Guy”) and toothlessness (“The Simpsons”), and the notion of a half-hour comedy based on the antics of a nuclear family is far from cutting edge. There’s a short-tempered but harmless father — check — a loving and indulgent mother — check — and three kids, one of whom is endearingly simple, one who mostly plays the straight man, and one whose manic and precocious energy precipitates many an adventure. (Check, check, check.) The show is ostensibly about the Belcher family’s struggles to raise their children while running a business that turns a slim profit. But underneath the unremarkable exterior beats one of the most fiercely liberal hearts steering any show on television today. “Bob’s Burgers” is a Trojan horse full of sexual progressivism and radical acceptance for trans prostitutes, hell-raising bikers, geriatric swingers and awkward adolescent girls. If given the chance, it will subvert your expectations at every turn.

Maybe the author who uncorked the popular book series shouldn’t twi so hard (starting with her pen name, “Cassandra Clare.” Actually she’s Judith Rumelt.) Rumelt has overstuffed this thing to the groaning point (or maybe I was the one groaning) with so many vampires, demons, werewolves, runes, crypts, warriors, weapons and witches that it’s as if someone handed her a checklist of stuff that sells young adult fantasy fiction and she couldn’t leave anything out.
