Chris Siegfried, 'Bachelorette' Winner, Publishing His Poems

A few days ago, Chris Siegfried, this year's "Bachelorette" winner, tweeted and instagrammed that he is publishing a book of his poetry (it appears that there will ALSO be poetry by the Bachelorette herself, Desiree Hartsock). The book is called Diamonds + Hearts: A Poetic Memoir.

While we're, you know, happy for him, we guess, we're not all that impressed with his work. Stanzas like "I step out of that limo,/ You...standing there beautiful in that dress./I lost my breath for that moment, /Then thought, getting down on one knee would be best" sound more like a cheesy, bad pop song than true poetry. But hey, YOU be the judge.

Here are some examples of his work that he posted on his personal Instagram account:

Diablo Cody's "Paradise" Trailer, Now Available on DIREC TV

Diablo Cody's directorial debut, starring Julianne Hough and Octavia Spencer, is out on DirecTV Cinema now, ahead of it’s October 18th theater debut.

Read the script late last year (formerly titled Lamb of God) and fell utterly in love with this story. The trailer MASSIVELY undersells it and it's a beautiful story, my favorite Diablo screenplay yet!

Is 'The Newsroom' the Best Bad Show Ever?

It's hard to take 'The Newsroom,' and even harder to stop watching it

You have to be a genius like Aaron Sorkin to get away with a show as vigorously awful as The Newsroom. That's the thing that makes it so agonizing in its watchability. Sorkin sees his hero Will McAvoy, played by Jeff Daniels, as the last noble Roman in the wilderness of cable news. But Will is just a blowhard twit who can't stop lecturing about his hard-won ideals.

This was one of the most disappointing shows for me tbh. I thought I'd love it because it's an Aaron Sorkin show about journalists, but NOPE.

Foo Fighters to record new album at start of 2014, guitarist Chris Shiflett says

Guitarist Chris Shiflett has revealed that Foo Fighters are planning to begin recording their new album early next year (2014).

Dave Grohl recently confirmed that the album, the band's follow-up to 2011's 'Wasting Light', has now been written and hinted at a 2014 release date.

"It's a little way off," Grohl explained, talking to XFM last week (August 16). "It's not ready to happen right now, but I think next year is going to be a really big year for the Foo Fighters without question."

Now Shiflett has echoed Grohl's comments by telling Rolling Stone: "We actually just started making a new Foo Fighters record within the last few weeks. We've started rehearsing." However, he went further than his bandmate by adding: ""It was a very short hiatus. We're going to start recording the new Foo Fighters record at the beginning of next year."

Meanwhile, Grohl has recently teased that the album will "not be a conventional record" and hinted that it could be recorded in some kind of groundbreaking way by saying: "We are going to make this album in a way that no one's ever done before, and we're pretty excited about it."

Hulk Hogan Wants Chris Hemsworth to Star In His Biopic

A Hulk Hogan biopic is in the very early days of production. The wrestling star read a four-page treatment penned by a duo he describes as "hot young writers" and liked it so much that he told them to go ahead and write a full script. While that doesn't mean it will necessarily end up becoming a movie, Hogan at least has a good idea of who he'd like to play a younger version of himself.

"We need a serious, serious actor that knows what he's doing. You know who I thought would be good? That guy that did that action movie, 'Thor,'" Hogan tells the Cape Breton Post, meaning Chris Hemsworth.

Hogan seems pretty excited about the project that these two writers are dreaming up to. According to him, they "nailed" getting his story correct "like they were living in my shoes."

"They've got wrestling in their blood, they were huge Hulk Hogan fans, so they followed not only the smoke and mirrors that you see on TV, but they followed personally what I was going through: the divorce, the car accident, all the drama, the eight back surgeries, the hip replacements, the knee replacements," he says of how they got it right.

Now don't get me wrong, Hulk Hogan is a wrestling icon, but Chris Hemsworth playing him in his biopic?! LMFAO JUST NO.

But what do YOU think, ONTD? Would you like to see Chris Hemsworth rip open that iconic yellow tank top to reveal his muscled chest on your nearest movie screens?

Maci Bookout debuts 'Being Maci,' draws criticism for spanking son Bentley

"Teen Mom" went off the air a year ago, but Maci Bookout is back on MTV with a new special, titled "Being Maci," which features the young mom living in a house with two of her girlfriends plus her four-year-old son Bentley.

It also showed Maci having a civil relationship with Ryan Edwards, her former fiance and baby daddy to her son. The two aren't getting back together (which is probably for the best), but it's nice to see them behaving like adults for Bentley's sake.

Bookout was busy tweeting during the premiere, writing, "If Being Maci showed yall anything its that no matter whatshappened im still just BEING MACI . nothing will ever change that."

And she's right -- the episode showed her spanking her son, which, if Twitter is an indication, was a controversial move. But she defends herself, writing, "I got my spanked as a kid for being a brat when i knew better.. so questioning this is questioning my parents and i take offense to that."

a message from gaga

I’ve said this to the fans time and time again, whether it be in person or in tweets, as well as the through the message and campaign of the Born This Way Foundation. My mother and I are passionate about
tolerance, acceptance, and kindness, and I’ve made it a point early in my career to make it known that this is what I stand for as an artist.
While it may be difficult at times to hear the things that people say
and write about me, or the nature of the industry that builds us up to
tear us down, I feel the need to address you all here on behalf of the
Born This Way Foundation.
Sending threats of any kind, using hateful or abusive language, and
the provoking of others on the internet is not supported by me or
anything that I stand for. What I’ve seen transpiring is wrong and
upsetting to me, and I’ve made it very clear how I feel about equality
and compassion.
I know how angry you feel sometimes, and I know that when they say things about me you feel that they are saying them about you as well. But music is about love, and is about sharing in the magic of theater. Although pop culture and society have become more negative and critical of the artist over the years, by engaging in this negativity
you are allowing it to spread.
I ask you to take a pledge with me to continue the change toward
positivity, and to recognize that this behavior is wrong. We are stronger than this. We know what we stand for, and what we stand for is bravery. I know this because what I see on the internet is not what
I see at my shows. People deal with their insecurities in many
different ways. The anonymous nature of social media has made it easy for many to vent their anger by bullying others with no recourse or
accountability. But this is not a healthy way to handle your emotions.
This is exactly what my mother and I aim to teach with the Born This
Way Foundation. Promoting skill building and mental health awareness that provides another outlet for your feelings. Put it in your art, put it in your music, put it in your creativity. Stop the Drama, Start
the Music.
I also ask that Twitter and other social media platforms support this
effort to monitor and control abusive and threatening language, as I don’t know that I am powerful enough to stop it myself. Please represent me and our community with the values we cherish and live by.
I love you.

'The Calling' Singer Abducted in Michigan

Alex Band --  lead singer of the rock band "The Calling" -- was abducted this weekend while taking a stroll down a street in Michigan, was beaten severely and then dumped on nearby train tracks ... and cops are investigating, sources tell TMZ.

Sources close to Alex tell us ... the singer was in Lapeer, MI for a music festival ... and decided to walk from his hotel to a nearby mini mart around 4am Sunday morning.

We're told ... during the stroll, a van pulled up alongside Alex and the people inside snatched the singer right off the street -- then proceeded to beat the crap out of him.

Eventually, sources say, the abductors dumped the badly beaten rocker on some nearby train tracks.

We're told ... another member of the band noticed 32-year-old Alex had gone missing later that morning and assembled a search party. The singer was discovered a short time later.

Alex survived the incident -- but his current condition is unclear.

Law enforcement wouldn't confirm the specific details ... but did tell us an incident report was filed ... and officials are currently investigating.

We reached out to Alex for comment -- but haven't heard back.

FYI -- The Calling was huge back in 2001, when they released that song "Wherever You Will Go" ... but broke up soon after. We're told the band had just recently reunited.

Pop star or avant-garde artist? Lady Gaga wants to be the next Andy Warhol

The message is crystal clear: do not buy Lady Gaga's latest album or download tracks because she is "over" and "no longer relevant". Many will be happy to obey, but it's not quite that simple. The clarity of the instruction is undermined by the fact that it's Gaga herself who is telling her audience to chuck her over in favour of something new.

Her promotional trailer for the album Artpop is not the first to deploy reverse psychology in the marketplace, but the flamboyant New York singer could well be the first to bill her campaign as the birth of a new artistic movement. Citing the work of pop artist Andy Warhol, Gaga, 27, is setting out "to alter the human experience with social media" and to "bring art culture into pop in a reverse Warholian expedition".

Actor Mark Ruffalo Speaks At Jackson Mississippi Abortion Rights Rally

So often, we forget to mention the many men who strongly, and pro-actively, support a woman’s right to reproductive choice. Mark Ruffalo is one of those men who takes a stand, and is willing to risk losing a portion of his career fan base to do so. Ruffalo tells a compelling story as a father, and as a son.

Mark Rufflalo – Abortion Rights Rally – Aug 17, 2013 in Jackson, MS (Originally Posted In Stop Patriarchy)

I am a man. I could say this has nothing to do with me. Except I have two daughters and I have a mother who was forced to illegally have an abortion in her state where abortion was illegal when she was a very young woman. It cost $600 cash. It was a traumatizing thing for her. It was shameful and sleazy and demeaning. When I heard the story I was aghast by the lowliness of a society that would make a woman do that. I could not understand its lack of humanity; today is no different.

What happened to my mother was a relic of an America that was not free nor equal nor very kind. My mother’s illegal abortion marked a time in America that we have worked long and hard to leave behind. It was a time when women were seen as second rate citizens who were not smart enough, nor responsible enough, nor capable enough to make decisions about their lives. It was a time that deserved to be left behind, and leave it behind we did, or so it seemed. We made abortion and a woman’s ability to be her own master a Right. That Right was codified into law. That law was the law of the land for decades. My own mother fought to make herself more than a possession; she lived her life as a mother who chose when she would have children, and a wife who could earn a living if she so chose. I want my daughters to enjoy that same choice. I don’t want to turn back the hands of time to when women shuttled across state lines in the thick of night to resolve an unwanted pregnancy, in a cheap hotel room just south of the state line. Where a transaction of $600 cash becomes the worth of a young woman’s life. So that is why I am lending my voice to you and your movement today. Because I actually trust the women I know. I trust them with their choices, I trust them with their bodies and I trust them with their children. I trust that they are decent enough and wise enough and worthy enough to carry the right of Abortion and not be forced to criminally exercise that Right at the risk of death or jail time.

There was no mistake us making Abortion legal and available on demand. That was what we call progress. Just like it was no mistake that we abolished institutional racism in this country around the same time. The easy thing to do is lay low, but then are we who we say we are? Do we actually stand for anything, if what we do stand for is under attack and we say nothing? There is nothing to be ashamed of here except to allow a radical and recessive group of people to bully and intimidate our mothers and sisters and daughters for exercising their right of choice. Or use terrorism and fanaticism to block their legal rights or take the lives of their caregivers. Or design legislation that would chip away at those rights disguised as reinforcing a woman’s health. I invite you to find your voice and let it be known that you stand for abortion rights and the dignity of a woman to be the master of her own life and body. I invite you to search your soul and ask yourself if you actually stand for what you say you stand for. Thank you for being here today and thank you for standing up for the women in my life.

Sincerely and humbly,
Mark Ruffalo

Thank You, Mark Ruffalo and Stop Patriarchy.

Blind Item: 8 bottles of Dom Pérignon, Xanax, Vicodin and Ambien

A world-famous actress has had a secret video recording of her suffering a terrifying drug and booze overdose presented in a court as part of her bitter child custody case, can reveal. Radar has chosen not to identity the superstar caught on camera — other than she is a middle-aged Hollywood figure who has won major international awards for her on-screen work.

But this website can report that a disgruntled former assistant of the actress — she is one of the most recognizable faces to appear on the silver screen and has starred in dozens of films — provided the cell phone video to the woman’s estranged partner. He subsequently used it in support of his bid to strip her of custodial rights of their children.

The case is currently before a judge and remains under court seal.

The 9 Doctor Who Plot Threads That Will Probably Be Left Hanging

Since Doctor Who came back in 2005 it has evolved from being a Saturday teatime treat for British children (and their nostalgic parents) to one of the chief geek shows on TV. Heightened episode quality coupled with the increased popularity in America have turned Whovians into a force that have Trekkies quaking.

Who has relished this new found popularity, becoming increasingly dual layered. While the core child audience can still enjoy the fantastical stories, episodes have hidden hints and seemingly throwaway references that provide clues for fans about where the show is heading.

Unfortunately, with this comes plot threads that don’t end up explored; for every reference that gets a payoff down the line, there’s one that fans put weight on that never becomes anything. While this is certainly more prominent with Steven Moffat’s writing, it’s been a problem across the whole series.

Coming up are nine such plot threads I doubt we’ll ever get any resolution to, along with one long standing arc we’ll likely get enlightened on very soon. I’ve decided to stick with nu-Who, primarily because this is where the continuity began to be fully chronicled, highlighting these dropped threads.

The Fall 2013 campaign will be ready in just a few days. The retiring soccer player is sporting the Bodywear Collection, which gives a nod to heritage sportswear.

David is 38 and still rocking that body we enjoy feasting our eyes on. He was thrilled to be working with H&M and said, “I love the heritage athletic style of the new pieces in my Bodywear collection at H&M. The vests, pajama pants and raglan sleeve tops are already like wardrobe favorites for me that I know I’ll wear all season long. It was great to shoot them in an old-fashioned East End changing room. It was like I had gone right back to my roots.”

Director Lee Daniels Discusses Growing Up Gay, Homophobia in the Black Community

Lee Daniels, director of 2009's Precious, sat down with Larry King to discuss, among other things, his new movie The Butler and how his perspective as a gay, black man influenced the film's focus on the civil rights movement. Later, Daniels shared his own story of growing up gay and the continued stigma attached to homosexuality within the black community.

Says Daniels:

"Black men can't come out. Why? Because you simply can't do it. Your family says it. Your church says it. Your teachers say it. Your parents say it. Your friends say it. Your work says it. So you're living on this 'DL' thing and you're infecting black women. And its killing us. The black culture and the hispanic culture have a thing about [homosexuality]"

Box office disaster: Harrison Ford's 'Paranoia' has the worst debut of 2013 (and his career)

Together, Liam Hemsworth, Gary Oldman, and Harrison Ford have starred in some of the biggest blockbusters of all time. Hemsworth has The Hunger Games, Oldman had the Harry Potter films, and Ford starred in two little franchises called Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

But the trio of actors couldn’t lift the $40 million thriller Paranoia — which you may not have realized opened in 2,459 theaters on Friday — out of the box office doldrums. In fact, Paranoia bombed. Badly. The film earned just $3.5 million in its first three days, which yielded a pitiful $1,423 per-theater average. Not only is that the worst debut of 2013 for a movie opening in more than 2,000 theaters — stealing the inauspicious title from Tyler Perry Presents Peeples, which opened with $4.6 million in May — it’s the worst wide opening weekend of Ford’s entire career. Han Solo can usually do better than 13th place.

Paranoia was directed by Robert Luketic, the rom-com specialist behind films like Legally Blonde, The Ugly Truth, and Monster-in-Law. Neither audiences nor critics enjoyed his take on the business thriller, though. The film currently has a 2 percent “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and polled crowds stamped it with an awful “C+” CinemaScore grade. Ads for the film were confusing, and despite their effort to explain the storyline, made the film look like little more than a jumbled mess of corporate conspiracy.

The stars should land on their feet just fine. Ford proved his drawing power earlier this year with 42, which earned $95 million, and he’s got roles in Ender’s Game and The Expendables 3 in the pipeline. Oldman is a veteran thespian who commands respect throughout the industry and shines in smaller, more serious dramas.Paranoia‘s performance reflects most poorly on Hemsworth, whom the distributor placed at the center of the marketing campaign. The Australian hunk has a good while before the Hunger Games series concludes, but he’ll need to prove his leading-man viability to keep nabbing high-profile roles in Hollywood.

The Mako Mori Test: 'Pacific Rim' inspires a Bechdel Test alternative

Fans of feminist film, or any lovers of media with strong female characters, might have a hard time justifying why they love certain movies. But the Mako Mori test, named after a Pacific Rim character at the center of a controversy, is attempting to change the conversation about what constitutes "strong women" in film.

It's no secret that Pacific Rim, Guillermo del Toro's $200 million love song to Japanese pop culture, was a risky venture from the start. With a multicultural cast, Hong Kong used as the main setting instead of New York or L.A., the only real star being a Black Brit many Americans had never heard of, and a storyline full of borrowed tropes that many anime fans felt were ripoffs rather than homages, the sci-fi action flick has fought an uphill battle to draw attention.

Miley Cyrus Explains 'White Trash And Chanel'

We don't know about you guys, but the closer we get to the 2013 Video Music Awards, the more pumped we are for all-things Miley Cyrus. So far, we've peeped her killer subway dance party VMA promo spot and found out that we'll get to watch her perform live (!!!) straight from the Barclays Center on August 25. If that wasn't ENOUGH awesomeness, we also caught up with Miley during her VMA shoot to get all the deets on her outfit, those 'dorbs onesies she can't stop wearing, and, of course, her (many!) grills. Her stylist, Simone Harouche, already dished on her "We Can't Stop"-inspired crop top and shunderwear ensemble, but we wanted to hear about the outfit straight from the source. She said, "You can just mix white trash and Chanel, that's me. That's my ultimate look. Pretty much everything is weird bondage stores except obviously my jewelry--gotta keep it classy with Chanel. I wear a lot of jewelry during the day, so I pretty much just come with my own jewelry, and give me some underwear to wear with it, and I call it a day."

When it comes to her grills, Miley said she has three with her at all times. "One Lil Jon style, one more Beyonce style cause she has one with vampire teeth. Mine kind of have vampire teeth, but they have a space so it's my classy, dainty one. And then I have the plain gold when I'm trying to be chill, and I don't want to be too in your face."

We already know that her onesie game is SUPER on point, but she said that Tigger is her go-to steez. "I have a hippo, which my boyfriend thinks is really sexy. So when I come downstairs it's Hungry Hungry Hippo, and I just go and smash everything and eat everything in sight." Um, that's amazing. To watch the full interview, go here!

You've Got to Play This Video Game Involving Manic Panic and Zines

If you were equally bummed by how Grand Theft Auto V is strictly dickly, but you still want to play all the video games, you need to check out Gone Home.

Gone Home is a mystery that you play as a young woman named Katie, who has just returned home to Oregon after a year abroad in Europe. When she gets to the front door, there are no signs of life except for a note from her younger sister Sam, warning Katie not to come looking for her. Spooky. As Katie, you explore your own home and unearth clues that help you unlock the secrets of your family.

It's an experimental first-person exploration game and the first one from The Fullbright Company, and it's so fun to play that I started this morning and didn't stop until I'd completed it three hours later. I will play it again. And maybe again after that.

Oh, and did I mention that it's set in the mid-90s, and the soundtrack features Heavens to Betsy and Bratmobile? Sam is the type of girl who uses Manic Panic, and makes her own zine called something like Kicking Down the Patriarchy. Sam's school assignment on the female reproductive cycle is something I wish I wrote. If ever a game was created for Jezebel, it's this one.
But the thing is, even though the game is told, in many ways, through a teenage riot grrl lens, it has universal appeal. It's getting tons of buzz in the gaming world because it's such an engaging, unique, and wonderfully clever game. And gender isn't incidental to the story, it's part of it. Don't worry, it's still a great time for dudes to play, and yes, there still needs to be way more games with interesting women characters, but this has single-handedly gotten me excited about video games — and their possibilities — again.

It's currently $17.99 for the next couple of days, and then it's back to being twenty bucks. It's worth it.

Grimes Denies Trolling Boiler Room (And has good taste in music)

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

As GQ reports, yesterday, at superstar house producer Richie Hawtin’s house in Ibiza, Grimes played a special DJ set for Boiler Room, one that was broadcast live online. Boiler Room DJ sets are usually a place where musicians can display cooler-than-thou taste in minimal bass music or whatever, but Grimes went the other direction, loading up her set with sugary pop music: Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, the Ramones, Skrillex, Daddy Yankee, the Venga Boys’ “We’re Going To Ibiza,” Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” You’re never going to believe this, but people got real grumpy about these decisions on Twitter, claiming that Grimes was trolling. Not so, says Grimes.

In a series of tweets after the Boiler Room set, Grimes wrote, “oh god, i wasn’t trolling boiler room. i don’t think there is a dj rule book. i will leave it at this: nothing about anything i do is ironic.” (She’s since deleted the first tweet, the one about trolling.)

And here’s the thing: Grimes is completely right. If you’ve been paying the slightest bit of attention to the things Grimes has said on Twitter or in interviews, none of her choices in that DJ set should be the slightest bit surprising. She’s always claimed Mariah Carey as a titanic influence.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

She’s also never been shy about proclaiming her love of bright, fun, well-crafted pop music, Taylor Swift in particular. And if I was out dancing and someone played a bunch of random, fun pop songs, I can’t imagine being upset about that. Speaking personally here, there’s a different mentality at work that I don’t understand: The one where you watch a live-streamed DJ set online and then snort dismissively on Twitter at the DJ’s choices. If it bothers you that much, why not just click the tab closed and then go outside or something?

Quick Quotes: Lee Daniels On Criticism That Mariah Carey Was Too Light-Skinned To Play Sharecropper

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

In an exclusive one-on-one with entertainment editor Clay Cane, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Lee Daniels defends the decision to cast Mariah Carey as a sharecropper in his historical drama ‘Lee Daniels’ The Butler’, due in theaters this Friday, August 16.

Watch the controversial director weigh-in on the Travyvon Martin case, LGBT rights and more in the interview after the jump.

A word of advice: Try not to stare at Lee’s sporadically-placed-nonetheless-softer-than-an-angel’s-kiss chest hair for the entire duration of the clip.

Radio airplay debuts for Katy and Gaga + Hot 100 predictions

In its first full week of airplay, Katy Perry's "Roar" rockets up Billboard's Nielsen BDS-based Pop Songs chart, while Lady Gaga's "Applause," released last Monday (Aug. 12), blasts in as the chart's highest debut by a woman this year.

The airplay, meanwhile, bodes well for the songs' fortunes on the Billboard Hot 100, highlights of which will be revealed on Wednesday (Aug. 21) on

"Roar" debuted at No. 34 on Pop Songs last week after less than two days of airplay. This week (reflecting the Aug. 12-18 tracking period), it flies to No. 15 with Greatest Gainer honors (up 4,248 plays, to 5,910). Meanwhile, "Applause" arrives at No. 20, representing the best bow by a solo female since Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" began at No. 18 the week of Sept. 1, 2012. "Applause" starts with 3,566 first-week plays; it received hourly spins on participating Clear Channel Media and Entertainment-owned radio stations on Aug. 12 (as "Roar" did the previous day; the airplay contributed to last week's chart).

Impressively for each song, of the Pop Songs panel's 164 stations, 162 played "Roar" in the past seven days, while 158 spun "Applause."

"Applause" returns Lady Gaga to Pop Songs for the first time since 2011, when "Marry the Night" became the fifth top 15 hit from her last studio album, "Born This Way."

"Applause" introduces "ARTPOP," due Nov. 11. "Roar" previews Perry's "Prism" (Oct. 22).

"Roar" rises 38-16 on Adult Pop Songs and enters at No. 36 on Rhythmic, while "Applause" starts on the former tally at No. 35.

Gilbert, 28 and Kramer, 29, had been dating for a year when the former popped the question at the Nashville's Ryman Auditorium Theater in January. Kramer was previously married to actor Johnathon Schaech for one month.

Benedict Cumberbatch looks uncharacteristically scruffy on Sherlock set

He is usually polished to perfection in his role as dapper detective, Sherlock Holmes.

"It's not out for another couple of weeks, but we've just started working on tracks for her until the studio session."

Nine Inch Nails Releases "Everything", Pop-ish Sound Stirs Shit

"'Everything' is the latest single from Hesitation Marks, the first new Nine Inch Nails album in five years. Compared to the rest of the album, "Everything" is virtually a pop tune. But it still has the amazing, inimitable sounds the band's front man and songwriter Trent Reznor is known for. All Songs host Robin Hilton likens the soundscapes to a nightmare where nothing bad happens, but the mood is terrifying. Hesitation Marks is out Sept. 3."

I'm living for the fights on the Facebook page right now.

What's really terrifying about 28 Days Later

I’m not really one for zombie movies. Don’t get me wrong. I appreciate the social critique of Night Of The Living Dead. I admire the gorgeous and spooky world of The Serpent And The Rainbow. And I laughed along with everyone else at Shaun Of The Dead. But as a genre? They're not really for me.

I love 28 Days Later, however (appreciating there's debate over whether it can be classed as a zombie movie or not). I’m not going to pretend that part of it isn’t due to Cillian Murphy and Christopher Eccleston, two of my favorite actors. Both did an excellent job on the film. And yes, as an action flick fan, I liked the explosions, fast-moving 'zombies', and the scenes of a devastated London.

But what really makes the film for me is something that appeared to be virtually ignored by a lot of the reviewers. It’s sometimes dealt with in passing by other apocalyptic films, but Danny Boyle actually highlighted it: the special dangers women would face in such a world and, as we can now see by reading news stories online, which they currently face in our own.

Many of these films will include an obligatory scene in which a female character (sometimes the heroine, but it rarely matters) is nearly raped by one out-of-control male in order to be saved by another, thus exhibiting the moral and physical superiority of our hero and savior over all the other men around him.

And while this does, in fact, happen in 28 Days Later, the difference is the out-of-control rapist is neither out-of-control, nor a rapist. And the fact that he’s neither makes him all the more terrifying.

Yes the film came out over a decade ago. Interesting article nonetheless.

Drake and Kanye Dine With The Kardashian Klan & Is Kanye West making Kimmy K quit her Sears line?

Dinnertime at the Kardashian household was a little crowded Sunday night when Drake, fresh off his surprise performance at Kylie Jenner's Sweet 16 with Big Sean, stopped by for supper. Kanye West, who recently reunited with the OVO leader at his annual Toronto music festival earlier this month, was also present as the entire family was treated to some free entertainment table-side.

"Hold on, we're going home #JustARegularFamilyDinner," wrote Kim Kardashian, who shared a clip mid-meal of Kylie's best pal, Pia Perez, holding court with an acapella version of Drake's Majid Johnson-assisted ballad, "Hold On, We're Going Home." It pays to be in with the Klan. Watch Pia flaunt her pipes via Keek below.

If we are to believe the rumours, our days of snapping up some affordable threads with Kim Kardashian’s name on them might be numbered.

It’s being reported that Kanye West has encouraged Kim to cut back her more reasonably priced clothing collections – the one at Sears in particular – as he apparently wants to make her the next Victoria Beckham.

“He wants Kim to distance herself from the Kardashian clothing line that is sold at Sears because he thinks it’s tacky, and cheapens her brand,” an ‘insider’ reportedly said. “Instead of having Kim’s designs sold at a discount department store, Kanye wants her to design a line that would be sold in posh stores such as Henri Bendel, Harrods and Bergdorf Goodman.”

Hmm, we’re not sure what to make of this. We love what Victoria Beckham has become, but we’d be a bit gutted if we didn’t have any more Kardashian Kollections to look forward to. After all, the upcoming Kardashian Kollection for Lipsy looks pretty exciting and we are literally counting down the days ‘til it arrives!

Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas to Divorce?

Rumors begin of a divorce + custody battle for the couple.  Catherine doesn't trust Michael to care for their kids.

It has been rumored for the last few weeks that Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas’s marriage is completely in the toilet with a divorce announcement due at any moment. The couple reportedly tried a trial separation last year and never really bothered to fix the issues in their marriage. Michael supposedly can handle his wife’s bipolar disorder but he can’t stomach her heavy drinking which ultimately triggers manic episodes. The actor has made peace with the fact that this divorce will cost him millions but he is determined to maintain a good relationship with his kids and intends to fight tooth and nail for primary custody.

According to the Aug. 26th print edition of National Enquirer, Catherine has every intention of matching Michael’s fight. When she recently checked herself into a hospital to get her bipolar condition under control she opted to fly her mother in from Wales rather than leave Michael with the kids alone. She simply didn’t trust him to put the kids first for even a few short weeks and instead enlisted the help of her mother.

In fact Catherine’s mother has relocated to a home a few miles from Catherine and Michael’s NY mansion in order to help her daughter handle the children while things get messy for the couple. Michael does not get along with Pat but tolerates her because fighting Catherine on the issue of her mother is always a losing battle. Catherine is counting on enlisting her mothers help to land primary custody of her children and she intends to use Michael’s busy schedule against him in custody court.

Hoping this isn't true.  I actually liked them together. :(

Ke$ha Joins WBC Protest sending her backup dancers to support their cause

Two years ago, the media-hungry bigots of Kansas’s Westboro Baptist Church appropriated pop star Ke$ha’s hit, “We R Who We R,” for their own anti-gay agenda, turning a song about acceptance into “God Hates Who U R.”

Ke$ha’s current tour stopped in Lincoln, Neb., yesterday. Since they apparently have nothing better to do, WBC protesters were camped outside her concert, blasting their cover. So Ke$ha did what any influential pop star would do: send her backup dancers to hang out with the protestors.

So kind of her to look out for ALL people attending her concerts.

Her drummer shared his thoughts too:

How The Internet Turned A Girl's Eminem Concert Into A Nightmare

More than 50 people were arrested at an Eminem show in a tiny Irish village this weekend, but none got as much attention as #slanegirl, a teenager who'd probably take an arrest record over what happened to her when concert photographs went viral.

The event, held at Slane Castle, drew 80,000 people. There was a massive fireworks display. Despite a strict no-alcohol ban, a heavy security force of 700 on-duty police officers couldn't stop the fun for most of the partiers in attendance.

But the Internet turned the revelry into a living nightmare Saturday for a high schooler after photos surfaced of her performing oral sex on two different men in the crowd.

In one photo, the girl locks lips with a man in a neon-green hat and matching pants. In another, more explicit shot, the same man is almost totally nude. He raises his hands victoriously in the air. He has not been harassed or bullied or had his identity broadcast to the Web.

The girl is allegedly 17, the age of consent in Ireland. But she quickly had her full real name revealed, her images spread around Twitter, Facebook, 4chan, Tumblr, and Reddit, and found herself at the center of a trending Twitter hashtag, and became the subject of a subsequent probe by the Irish Police.

Avicii's Rave New World – how the Swedish DJ-producer merged bluegrass and EDM into a global smash

This past spring, the Swedish DJ-producer Avicii opened the second half of his set on the monster main stage of Miami's Ultra Music Festival with something totally unexpected: He brought out a stomping band – singers, guitars and a banjo – to strum through a new Mumford-sounding, bluegrass-tinged anthem called "Wake Me Up." Ravers weren't sure what to make of it, and their confusion spilled over into harsh criticism online. "After the show, he kept telling me, 'There's so many people on Twitter who hate what we were doing,'" says guitarist Mike Einziger, who was onstage. "He was kind of visibly affected by it."

Six months later, they've definitely come around to the 23-year-old spinner's vision. The insanely catchy "Wake Me Up" is a worldwide smash. It's the fastest-selling single of the year in the U.K. (beating "Blurred Lines") and has gone to Number One in 63 countries. "It's ridiculous," says Avicii (real name: Tim Bergling). "I still don't really feel like I've had time to slow down and really realize where it has all come to. A lot of dance music has gotten more and more repetitive – too focused on the dirty drop. I was always interested in the melodic part of house music."

Liam Hemsworth considers one of Bon Iver’s songs a curse

Actor Liam Hemsworth refuses to listen to one particular Bon Iver song after hearing the track playing on the stereo when he was involved in two separate car accidents.

“The Hunger Games” star reveals he had been listening to the folk band while driving in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was shooting his new thriller “Paranoia,” when his car was struck by a fire engine.

He tells Conan O’Brien, “It was after work; it was about 11:30 at night, I was driving down the streets of Philadelphia and they have a lot of one-way streets there, which are completely blind, you can’t see around them. I was driving along, listening to music. I wasn’t drunk, I was completely sober, just so everyone knows. I’m quite a good driver. …

“I’m going through a green light and I’m half-way through the green light and out of the corner of my eye I see a fire truck slamming on the brakes and (it) smashes right into the door behind me and sort of whipped me around. I pulled over, I was fine, I wasn’t hurt or anything, and the person got out and said, ‘Are you OK?’ and I said, ‘Yes, fine’ and I said, ‘Are you guys OK?’ and they said, ‘Yes, fine.’”

As he returned to his car, Hemsworth heard the song “Blindsided” by Bon Iver playing over the speakers – the same track that served as the score for another traffic mishap in Los Angeles.

He says, “The weirdest part of the story is. … I got back into my car and I was listening to a song by Bon Iver and the song was called ‘Blindsided,’ and I’ve listened to that song since then. I’ve played it one other time when I was driving in L.A. and I put the song on, and this is not a joke, I almost got hit by another car changing lanes as soon as I put this song on. I love the guy (front man Justin Vernon), I love his music, but that song is just a curse for me.”

After 400 years, Mary, Queen of Scots again captures the fascination of film-makers

Camille Rutherford as Mary, Queen of Scots in Thomas Imbach's upcoming film

The Guardian: Since 1971 film-makers have tried to emulate the Oscar-winning success of Mary, Queen of Scots, starring Vanessa Redgrave and Glenda Jackson as the tragic Scottish queen and her nemesis, Elizabeth I. Aborted later attempts include one by Hollywood's actress-producer Scarlett Johansson and British director Alexander Mackendrick.

Two UK productions are still at early stages, but a Swiss film-maker has beaten them to it with a sympathetic psychological portrait set to be an art-house hit. Zurich-based Thomas Imbach has directed, produced and co-written the film, with Camille Rutherford playing Mary, which has been singled out for this season's festivals at Locarno and Toronto.
