Robin Thicke's “Blurred Lines” is on everyone everyone’s lips these days. The ubiquitous tune is catchy as hell and features musical help from fellow super-talents T.I. and Pharrell Williams. As if that’s not enough to earn it some serious column inches, let’s not forget the controversially racy (and very NSFW) music video! The vid has raised some red flags with fans, and even got yanked off of YouTube for a spell. #Thicke and Co insist that the over the top clip was merely meant as a joke, but we’re pretty sure he’s laughing all the way to the bank. A little controversy never hurt record sales, did it? Just read on to see 25 scandalously sexy music vids that were too hot to handle when they first dropped!

Just last week, a statue of Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese in Brooklyn was vandalized with racist slurs and Hitler references. It was another reminder — like we needed one — that "post-racial America" is a fairytale until further notice.
A statue, made of stone, is bad enough. But Adam Jones of the Baltimore Orioles is a person, and what happened to him at AT&T Park on Sunday was just as unacceptable. Jones, who is black, said somebody threw a "banana towards my direction" in the ninth inning of Baltimore's 10-2 victory against the San Francisco Giants.
Bananas have been used, time immemorial, in racist depictions of blacks as being subhuman. In 2011, a white fan threw a banana peel at NHL player Wayne Simmonds, who is black, during a game in London, Ont. Canada.
Worse than graffiti, what happened to Simmonds and Jones is tantamount to being spat upon, with an added insult of racism. In 2013, such behavior cannot be tolerated.

Video may not have killed the radio star, but it did force them to make themselves into brands
Last week marked the anniversary of the premiere of MTV. Thirty-two years ago, the footage of a rocket blasting off into space, an astronaut walking on the moon and a voice saying, “Ladies and gentlemen, rock ‘n’ roll” launched the first 24-hour music channel, heralding a revolutionary way to consume music.

Hmmm. Interesting points noted. IMO, we are all consumers of the artists we stan for, and the success of their product largely relies on whether we buy their shit or not.
Et tu, ONTD? Do you still hark back to the golden years of MTV where music videos, pioneering reality TV shows, and animated classics like "Daria" ruled your airwaves?
While star Matt Damon and writer/director Neill Blomkamp have been repeatedly stating that there is no inherent social message to their new futuristic thriller "Elysium" (review here), it's something of a dubious claim. There are a number of real-life social and political parallels that you can draw between burnt out future of "Elysium" and the slightly less charred world we live in today (everything from the Occupy movement to Blackwater's involvement in American military actions in the Middle East). And if it isn't a social commentary (as the filmmakers claim), at the very least, it is a work of extraordinarily vivid speculative science fiction, one in which Los Angeles looks like an unruly Mexico City (where they shot the film) and robots hassle you on your way to work. It's enough for us to start wondering which of the concepts trotted out in "Elysium" (and there were a bunch) have the possibility of actually coming true. If "Elysium" isn't a social movie now, it might be a crystal ball instead.

Katy Perry‘s lead Prism single “Roar” is officially available on iTunes now, where it sits in the runner-up spot, just behind top download “Blurred Lines.” (How many other songs have endured that situation over the past two months?) But while the future radio staple wasn’t scheduled to be released until midnight last night, it sprung a leak over the weekend, allowing the Internet at large to hear the Max Martin/Dr. Luke co-production a couple days early.
Below, we rounded up several thoughts critics had on “Roar.” Some feel it’s a proper pop anthem, while others wish this particular tiger had a little more bite.

Sherlock Holmes says that once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains—however improbable—is the truth. So here are some improbable truths about Jonny Lee Miller, the British actor who plays Holmes—a modern, rehabbed version of him—on the hit CBS series Elementary. Miller has starred in everything from Hackers to Trainspotting to Dark Shadows, but he’s only 40 years old. He’s classically trained for theater, but also trained to race to the South Pole. He’s a ladies’ man-turned-family man with a wife and 4-year-old son. Oh, and somehow his unlikely Sherlock—with Lucy Liu as his partner in crime-solving Watson—might just be the most convincing one yet. Elementary? Hardly!
Watch!: Good day to you, sir. Was it fun to come back to the motherland and do a shoot like this?
Jonny Lee Miller: It’s really nice. You don’t get the chance to see your extended family a lot doing a network show, especially when you live in another country, so it’s been fantastic.
Watch!: Let’s talk a little about what drew you to this unorthodox version of Sherlock Holmes.
Jonny: There have been hundreds of incarnations over the years, but because of the high-profile ones recently, it didn’t seem like a good idea at all. I initially said no to the project.

Prince Friso of the Netherlands has passed away at age 44, a news report announces today, August 12th.
Friso reportedly died of complications that occurred following his brain damage caused by an oxygen deficiency because of his skiing accident on February 17th 2012 in Lech, Austria.
Two months ago Aaron Carter, brother of Backstreet Boy Nick, was beaten up on a trip to Boston because, as one of his assailants reportedly claimed: "This is the town of the New Kids." Such territorial clashes remind us that there is nothing new in pop rivalry, it's an energy that labels and artists have used to their advantage over the years. But the situation has evolved to an almost farcical level in the digital age and last weekend, seeing trouble brewing with Katy Perry's fans, Lady Gaga sent out an unusually direct statement to her famously militant fans that enough was, finally, enough.
"I really want the second half of 2013 to mark a change in pop," she wrote. "Don't fight with Katy's fans, or anyone. STOP THE DRAMA. START THE MUSIC. Pop music is fun, and these 'wars' are not what I'm about."
To understand that these "wars" are less simple than lobbing abuse across Twitter or duffing up a Backstreet Boy's younger brother, consider the events of the last fortnight as Gaga and Perry gear up to release Applause and Roar, their respective singles. Consider, in particular, Operation Roar, a three-point web plan distributed by Katy Perry fans with the aim of "destroying" Lady Gaga.

Rihanna has become hard to handle since her breakup with Chris Brown just weeks ago, says one of her employees. Brown confirmed their split last month, stating he is not with her nor his other on-and-off girlfriend, Karrueche Tran.
“[Fans have] seen me on and off again with different girls, you know who they are, but right now, as a 24-year-old man, I just choose to be single! I’m still good friends with them. [Now] it’s just me being focused with my music and doing this stuff. Right now, I’m in my prime,” Brown said in an interview with Hollywood Life.
And though Rihanna has since been seen partying on a regular basis with her friends, most recently in her hometown of Barbados, a worker is saying the 25-year-old is not handling the breakup well.
“We’re always sent on some errand to the middle of nowhere just to find something trivial, like the ‘right’ ice bucket or color notepad…Rihanna has never been easy to work for, but since she and Chris Brown broke up, she’s been beyond horrible,” the staff member told Star magazine.
If she is in fact affected by their latest split, in public, she is not showing it. Just days ago, the singer wrote about rapper Drake and his latest song, “Hold On, We’re Going Home.” On Twitter, Rihanna tweeted her favorite lyrics to his new song, writing, "I got my eyes on you. Cuz you're a good girl and you know it [sic]!" Afterwards, a fan wrote more of the song lyrics, to which the Barbadian stunner replied, "My new fave record, period."
We interrupt your regularly scheduled August music news lull to bring youthis urgent announcement from Lady Gaga: “DUE TO HACKERS AN ABUNDANCE OF LOW/HIGH QUALITY LEAKS…WE ISSUE THIS POP MUSIC EMERGENCY…MONSTERS SPREAD THE WORD [...] POP MUSIC EMERGENCY#0DAYSTillAPPLAUSE MY NEW SINGLE COMES OUT TODAY. 911 SPREAD THIS MESSAGE.”
This barrage of “911″-filled tweets was how the world found out that Gaga’s new song, “Applause,” would debut today, a full week before its original August 19 premiere date. And here it is, the first official single from her upcoming album, ARTPOP:
“Applause” wears its synth chorus like a ginormous, hairspray-shellacked ’80s updo. Musically, the song is the aural equivalent of a laser portraittaken a quarter-century too late, with the kind of hyperactive beat that makes it a shoo-in for those mall department store playlists specially designed to encourage impulse buys. (“‘Applause’ sounds like something you listen to at the grocery while pushing a cart full of pudding around,”my friend JD Scott observes.)
But for those with high hopes for ARTPOP – this writer cautiously included — the song is even more worrisome thematically. As its title implies, “Applause” is about fame, Lady Gaga’s great obsession. Making its way into the title of her first album and its EP-length follow-up, The Fame Monster, it’s also at the core of what might be her best song, “Paparazzi.” From her elaborate costumes to her worship of Andy Warhol, you could argue that fame — not music — is Gaga’s true medium. So it should be a relief to see her revisit it after 2011′s Born This Way, a mixed bag of styles and ideas that will ultimately be best remembered for the title track’s tepid foray into identity politics.
Unfortunately, “Applause” suffers from many of the problems of Gaga’s previous album. If it’s not quite a ripoff of a specific Madonna track, it’s at least a retro pop pastiche. And, like “Born This Way,” it makes its statement of purpose painfully literal: “I’ve overheard your theory / Nostalgia’s for geeks / I guess, sir, if you say so / Some of us just like to read / One second I’m a Koons / Then suddenly the Koons is me / Pop culture was an art / Now art and pop culture in me.” This is Lady Gaga reciting her manifesto and hitting back at critics in the same breath, with a touch of hubris thrown in at the end to complement umpteen repetitions, at the chorus, of “I live for the applause.”
You have to hand it to her — she’s capable of articulating her artistic objective more clearly than most artists. But everyone with even a casual awareness of Lady Gaga has known for the better part of five years that putting high art in the pop-culture spotlight is what she’s about. That “Applause” plays like a robotic rehash of the fame-obsessed songs that made her famous doesn’t bode well for ARTPOP. As much as I hope it isn’t, it may well be the sound of one of the 21st century’s most promising pop stars running out of ideas.
In one of the most supremely ironic court decisions in a long time, a judge just threw out the racial discrimination claim filed against Paula Deen -- the very lawsuit that destroyed the famous chef.
A judge just ruled ... Lisa Jackson had no right to claim racial discrimination, BECAUSE SHE'S WHITE! Any comments that Deen or her cohorts may have made had no legal consequence to her, because she's simply not the right color.
Jackson made a tenuous argument that someone in her family was bi-racial -- something that may not be true at all. But the judge said even if it were true, she was at best an "accidental victim."
Short story -- Jackson ruined Paula with a bogus claim.

Paramount's zombie extravaganza has earned $502.6 million worldwide.
Brad Pitt is celebrating his most successful film to date at the global box office, not accounting for inflation.
Over the weekend, the worldwide total for his zombie tentpole World War Z grew to $502.6 million, surpassing the $497.3 million earned by historical epic Troy.
From Paramount and Skydance Productions, World War Z is one of the summer's few success stories. The movie has grossed $197.4 million domestically (also a best for Pitt) and $305.2 million at the foreign box office.
In the movie, Pitt plays an ex-United Nations investigator who traverses the globe in a race against time to stop a pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself. Mireille Enos and James Badge Dale also star.
Marc Forster directed World War Z, which is based on Max Brooks' novel. The movie was a passion project for Pitt, who produced alongside Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Ian Bryce.
By all accounts, the tentpole overcame substantial hurdles, including a lengthy delay in releasing the movie after the final act needed to be reworked.

But Shailene Woodley. She plays Sutter’s rebound girlfriend, Aimee Finicky, a pretty but mousey nice girl who blossoms under his attention. I have to confess I’m late to the Shailene party, having never seen The Descendants, the 2011 film in which she had a break-out role as George Clooney’s daughter, or the ABC Family series The Secret Life of the American Teenager, on which she has starred for the last five years, but I found her mesmerizing from her first scene in The Spectacular Now. Her Aimee is vulnerable but eager, possessed of a lovely inner light and a fragile outer shell, and sharper than she lets on. It’s another role with complex, conflicting shadings, and I would guess it’s much harder to play than Woodley, who can seemingly give the word “awesome” infinite meanings and inflections, makes it look. I’m not sure how else to praise the performance except to say that I can’t think of a more honest and natural movie teenager than Aimee, and that Woodley provides The Spectacular Now (awful title) with instant narrative tension because, of course, once she’s introduced, you spend the rest of the film fearing that Sutter and the film will break her heart.

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Tisanoreica Diet, the most popular weight-loss and management program in Italy, announced today that Mary Murphy, the international ballroom dance champion and judge of Fox-TV's multiple Emmy Award winning hit series "So You Think You Can Dance," now in its 10th season, will become the company's celebrity spokesperson in the U.S.
Founded in 1911, Tisanoreica (pronounced "TEE-sahna-ray-ka") is a widely known brand in Italy where its herbal health products are found in virtually every household. The Tisanoreica Diet program is based on the evidence-based, patented "Decottopia" herbal extracts that are based on centuries old formulae developed by the Mech family of Vicenza, Italy and which contain no alcohol, no sugars nor preservatives.
"We're extremely proud to have Mary Murphy as the face – and figure! – of the Tisanoreica Diet in America," said Tisanoreica CEO Gianluca Mech. "Mary is the epitome of American grace, beauty and enthusiasm, and we're thrilled to have – to use her own words – this 'hot tamale' represent our emerging brand in the U.S."
Called the "Italian Comfort Food Diet," Tisanoreica was introduced last month to the U.S. and is currently available for purchase online and in select health spas nationwide. More than a line of product, the Tisanoreica Diet method is a complete system of integrated weight management targeted at beauty, health and wellness.
"What I love about the Tisanoreica Diet herbal meals is that I never feel deprived on them," said Murphy. "I've tried other diets in which you're either feeling famished or tired. As a dancer who must keep physically fit, and now as a dance judge who must stay mentally alert during auditions that can stretch on for hours, that's important to me."
I'm only submitting this so we can have a health and fitness post. :)
Darnell Dockett, of the Arizona Cardinals, has come under the scrutiny of PETA and other animal rights groups for his latest family addition: a young tiger named Buddy. After Dockett was unable to buy a pet monkey during a recent trip to Florida, it seems that he settled on a much wilder alternative and returned to his home in Arizona with a tiger cub. Since then, Buddy has become the star of Dockett’s twitter page and the released photos have angered many animal rights activists.
While it is technically not illegal for the football star to own Buddy, he could face legal consequences (jail time and the removal of Buddy from his possession) if the tiger was transported across state lines without the necessary permits. PETA has written letters of complaint to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Arizona Game and Fish Department, asking that an investigation take place.
In a recent press statement, the PETA Foundation Director of Captive Animal Law Enforcement, Delcianna Winders, said “[t]igers are endangered, they’re dangerous, and it’s illegal and cruel to buy them and keep them as ‘pets’ in Arizona.” PETA hopes that the investigation will result in Buddy living out his life “at an accredited sanctuary, not in a cage, in a football player’s backyard.”
Dockett also received some negative attention from PETA back in 2011, when he claimed that he would be bringing his pet alligator, Nino, to football training.

Thus, without further ado, let's go and review the evidence that her vocal chops are still there and that the pasture of lambs have been greener than how they were in like, 1999 or something.

What are your favorite Mariah Carey performances from the past year? Of all time? Mariah Party post y/y/y? Also, of note, her vocal range, as of this past year, is Bb2 -> D7. I could have used Mariah's Theme (remix), Always be my baby, It's like that and Emotions performances but, you know, trying to keep it to ten!

Between rocking elaborate festival performances at Outside Lands and prepping a new album, Nine Inch Nails found time to offer the studio version of "Copy of A" for free download through Amazon U.K. Naturally, the Hesitation Marks track, which has featured in the band's recent live sets, quickly spread. "Copy of A" is dark and reflective, and features the roundelay, "I am just a shadow of a shadow of a shadow, always trying to catch up with myself / I am just an echo of an echo of an echo / listening to someone's cry for help."
NIN leader Trent Reznor said earlier this summer that Hesitation Marks was heavily influenced by 1994's acclaimed The Downward Spiral, and that it feels "sparse and minimal."
Hesitation Marks is due out September 3rd. "Copy of A" will be available in the U.S. tomorrow.
In February, Eminem’s longtime manager Paul Rosenberg told Billboard, "We fully expect to be releasing a new Eminem album in 2013. He’s been working on it for some time. It’s safe to say that it will be post-Memorial Day at some point, but we’re not exactly sure when." He mentioned August as a possibility, but “post-Memorial Day” could mean anything: Every date from now until eternity now falls into that category. But lo and behold, two days ago, Mr. Porter — Eminem’s longtime hypeman — tweeted, “Some of these Em fans will have something to talk about soon. Thank god cause y'all be killing my timeline.”
Eminem performed for an hour last night, taking the stage at G-Shock’s 30th anniversary Shock the World event, held in an airplane-hangar-sized basketball complex in New York City. He had hits — “Cleaning Out My Closet,” “Stan,” “Love the Way You Lie” — and he had songs that are bigger than hits. “Lose Yourself,” falling into the latter category, isn’t even a piece of music, it’s a round dot on a timeline, a tattoo that never fades. Leading up to those, B-sides like “Kill You” well, killed; “Dream On” and “Toy Soldiers” sort of made sense, finally, as popular hook-y ballads for Eminem to karaoke around. But, though hints dropped like crumbs, he revealed no new music, he let no cats out of bags, he showed no leg. Eminem doesn’t make many appearances. For now, this would just be a rare — if unexpected — opportunity to go whale watching.
Eminem’s had a lot of ups, a lot of downs and a bunch of drugs in between. The youthful exuberance of the TRL years has long disappeared behind his eyes. To watch him on TV is often to see a man who would rather not be on TV. But last night, he threw his body fully into the experience, practically choking on the microphone to give it more sound. His back muscles rippled his white tee and his neck bulged, always straining for more, more, more. It was a purely compulsive performance.

X-Men have been played on screen by Oscar winners and stage legends and the owner of some extremely famous, uh, hardware. But there is only one X-Man who is incredibly famous for playing a mutant, and that's Hugh Jackman-- which makes him incredibly valuable to the franchise as it goes forward. Fresh off the modest but significant success of The Wolverine, Jackman has proved his worth to the franchise all over again… and he's apparently aiming to get paid handsomely for it.

MGMT have said that they are keen to work with Pond.
The two bands have not collaborated on any material so far but know each other through Pond's connections to Tame Impala, who supported MGMT on tour in 2010. Former Tame Impala bassist Nick Allbrook is the frontman in Pond and Andrew VanWyngarden of MGMT revealed in a new interview with Triple J that he is keen to work with the 'Hobo Rocket' band in the near future.
"We always try to get up in the mix with those guys," VanWyngarden said of a prospective collaboration. "Maybe we'll do something crazy together."

Are we sure this is the guy that was in ‘Dude, Where’s My Car?’ At the Teen Choice Awards on August 11, Ashton was presented the Ultimate Choice Award, and his acceptance speech was… unexpected, to say the least. Instead of being his usual funny self, Ashton began imparting wisdom about “hard work” and “being really smart.” Did you love or loathe his surprising acceptance speech?
Ashton Kutcher may have actually become Steve Jobs while portraying him in the upcoming movie, Jobs. Because the funny, goofy, Punk’d Ashton was nowhere to be found when he accepted the Ultimate Choice Award at the Teen Choice Awards on August 11.
The 35-year-old actor seemed to treat his TCA acceptance speech more like a college graduation speech. After humorously admitting that he was receiving “the old guy award,” Ashton quickly moved on to talking about “insider secrets.”
“I feel like a fraud,” Ashton then said. “My name is actually not even Ashton. Ashton is my middle name. My first name’s Chris… But there are some really amazing things I learned when I was Chris.”
And that’s when things got really deep — Ashton told us the amazing things he learned as Chris. “It’s really three things,” Ashton (or Chris maybe?) said, “first thing is about opportunity, the second thing is about being sexy, and the third thing is about living life.”

The music world was abuzz about the very INNOVATIVE and fun lyric video for Katy Perry's new single ROAR today ..... Katy stopped by Fresh 102.7's "Jim and Kim Morning Show" to discuss the idea behind the video ......
“Before the official video comes out,” Katy explained, “you usually do a lyric video. And a lot of times those aren’t a special as the regular videos and mind you the video that’s coming for ‘Roar’ is gonna be so fantastic, I’m very excited about it. But the one that I just put out today is a lyric video so you can learn the lyrics. And it’s very cute… It has emojis in it – because we use those!”
Katy admits, “all those people that are in the lyric video… we have a group called ‘Mom’s Home,’ it’s some strange thing you can do on this application called What’s App – you can make your own little groups and you could just keep talking, all of you, at the same time. I actually used my real friends names – I think they’re all waking up going ‘what are all these replies on Twitter about?!”

Kanye West is NOT God, even though he thinks he is -- and we know that because he can't even control the housing market.
Kanye has just knocked a cool half-a-mil off the asking price for his Hollywood Hills bachelor pad. He listed it for $3.3 mil back in March. Apparently he thought a house with Kanye attached could fetch more than the comparable prices in the neighborhood -- the house should have been listed at around $2.5 mil.
Yeezus dropped the price to $3.15 in early June, but still no takers. So he's just dropped the price again -- to $2.8 mil.
We're two months away from the Season 9 premiere of "Supernatural" (Tues., Oct. 8 at 9 p.m. ET) but The CW has given fans a tantalizing tease with a newly released behind-the-scenes image from a recent promotional photo shoot, featuring the three stars -- and surviving members of Team Free Will -- Jensen Ackles (Dean), Jared Padalecki (Sam) and Misha Collins (Castiel).
