Despite the music video for We Can't Stop practically scandalising our mums into an early grave and her comments about getting a picture of Chris Brown tattooed onto her face made our dads grumble on about the 'youth of today', Miley Cyrus is continuing on in her quest for ultimate badass-ness (op: just, no).
And what's Miles' next move for her edgy image re-vamp? Why, it's having a go at rapping - which for some reason doesn't even sound that strange to us anymore. GAH.
Yep, apparently so much has happened with Miley 2.0 with all that twerking and bare midriff that the idea of her letting her inner Eminem loose hardly even registers on our surprised scale. And we're very easily shocked.
Mike WiLL Made It, producer of We Can't Stop, spoke to Life & Times about Miley's newest musical venture, saying: "I'm about to put out the next single within the next month... It's called 23 and it features Miley, Juicy J and Wiz Khalifa."

When DJ Skee was growing up, he dreamt of appearing on "Total Request Live," the MTV show that broadcast live from Times Square every afternoon. Landing on its list of the top 10 music videos or performing live in-studio was a sign you had arrived -- or were about to. Now 29 years old, Skee has a loftier goal: he's going to bring music back to television.
A producer for the likes of Justin Bieber and Kendrick Lamar, a touring DJ and a radio host, Skee debuted "SKEE Live," a new TV show for AXS TV aimed at the "verge" audience -- kids who grew up on the Internet.
The show will be broadcast live from a studio at L.A. Live, the emerging commercial hub of downtown Los Angeles, and will feature a big live performance, interviews with major musicians and tales from the road.
The show kicks off tonight with an impressive guest list – Kendrick Lamar, who will perform, The Neighbourhood, a Californian rock band, and Floyd Mayweather, the best pound for pound boxer alive.

If there's anyone who knows how to commit to a theme, it's Katy Perry. When we first caught wind of her forthcoming Killer Queen fragrance—the "California Gurl's third scent, if you're counting—we just KNEW we were in for a campaign dripping in gobs of crazy opulence, louche regal status, and at least a hint of KP's signature flavor of camp. We saw the bottle, a pointed fragrance grenade modeled after the top of a scepter which is meant to lay on its side, back in May when Katy revealed her new perfume project just ahead of the 2013 Met Gala, but since then, we haven't heard much about it (save an extensive interview about it with WWD earlier this month).
( Collapse )
Rather than the matching sun hat and coat steez of England's current Queen Elizabeth II or even the covered-up, accordion-collared of the first Elizabeth, KP goes for a *achem* leggier interpretation. Perry wears a satin corseted dress with a full, bustled (but still totally mini) skirt in a rich bordeaux styled with black latticed tights, patent lace-up booties, an over-sized jewel-laden crown, massive scepter (topped with the perfume bottle!) and what looks like a fuzzy ivory collar necklace situation. As far as the Killer aspect, we THINK that point's being made by the king's crown kicked to the bottom left of the frame and that toppled over throne. *snap in a Z formation*
BOSS! QUEEN! (idts)
I see you, Katy.

SMH, Davey, could your lip-synching be any more half-assed?
Simon Cowell has changed a lot of lives on American Idol, The X Factor, and Britain's Got Talent -- but he's about to undergo the most life-changing experience of all: fatherhood. The notoriously prickly Brit, 53, is expecting a baby with New York socialite Lauren Silverman, multiple sources reveal exclusively in the new issue of Us Weekly.
"She's around 10 weeks along," the insider shares. And that's only part of the story.
Silverman, 36, is technically still married -- to Cowell's close friend Andrew Silverman, a real estate mogul in NYC. She plans to leave her estranged husband to be with the father of her child.
"Lauren and Andrew have been unhappy in their marriage for some time, and their divorce has been in the works for a while," a source tells Us. "As their marriage deteriorated, she and Simon became close."
In any case, diaper duty is a big deal for the X Factor judge, who has said on more than one occasion in the past that he's not cut out to be a dad. "God, no. I couldn't have children. If I had them here drawing on the walls I'd go nuts," he crowed in 2009. "With kids, you've got a routine you can't escape from. You've got to be up at a certain time. Got to listen. When all you want to do is sit in a corner thinking."
In recent years, however, his stance on the issue seems to have softened. Last year, he hinted in an interview with AOL Music that he hadn't entirely ruled out the idea of someday becoming a father.
"Well...yes," he said when asked if he'd changed his mind about children. "And no. I do really, really like kids, because I can talk to them and listen to them. The problem has always been how much time you need to devote to bringing up kids. I've always dedicated all my life to work, and at 52, I've probably missed the opportunity."
Cowell's reps were unavailable for comment.
what the hell.

Set in 1985, 1918, and 1941, “The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells” is a very innovative novel that presents us with the impact a different set of circumstances might have on the development of a person.
The book opens in New York in 1985. Severely depressed after losing her gay twin brother to AIDS and abandoned by her partner, Greta Wells pursues every treatment she can think of to raise her spirits. Addiction-plagued Full House star Jodie Sweetin checked into rehab after dropping her bid to get full custody of her youngest daughter a bombshell new report in The National Enquirer has revealed.
The 31-year-old actress has entered a $50,000-a-month residential treatment facility and she is also now seeking to share joint custody of her daughter Beatrix, 2, after filing for legal separation from the tot’s father, her third husband, Hollywood DJ Morty Coyle.
“When I filed the separation papers in court, I requested sole custody of Beatrix,” Jodie told The Enquirer in an exclusive interview.
“But Morty and I sat down and talked about it, so I’m seeking only joint custody now.”
Jodie, who played Stephanie Tanner on the hit TV show, said that she isn’t sure if she will get a divorce after all
“You know, relationships are complicated,” she told The Enquirer.
Jodie has struggled with cocaine, crystal meth and alcohol addictions in the past, but she denied to The Enquirer that she was entering rehab.
However, on July 27, 2013 an Enquirer reporter watched as the actress helped movers load furniture and clothing onto a truck at the apartment complex where she and Coyle lived and followed it to a secluded compound which is now leased to a residential rehab facility.
While we were treated to a Marvel-ous introduction by Tom Hiddleston for the latest THOR: THE DARK WORLD footage over at San Diego Comic Con, the lack of cast and crew panel spoke volumes of the fears for the demigod’s return. It’s well known there are serious problems behind-the-scenes that initially began once GAME OF THRONES regular director Alan Taylor took over the late reins from original choice Patty Jenkins. Since then, Taylor and Marvel chief Kevin Feige have been butting heads over the finished film’s running time with Taylor’s vision coming in at 150 minutes, while Feige is adamant he’s contracted for a cut no longer than 120 minutes. Hemsworth was also unhappy with his contracted paycheck despite the success of the first film and his AVENGERS appearance.
A mediator was also rumoured to have been brought in to broker a compromise with that shorter run time allowing the studio more screenings upon release, hence more money but at what cost to the director artistic vision? Music composer Carter Burwell was also forced to leave the project over creative differences, this despite his name appearing on the first official poster. Red faces all round. Now stunning co-stars Kat Dennings and Jaimie Alexander have confirmed more reshoots are underway. While this is not uncommon for pick-up shots, to go with the set already organised and completed months after wrapping, it proves all is not well. What is perhaps most worrying is that the film is set for release in just over three months!
Marvel Studios intergalactic comic-book sequel THOR: THE DARK WORLD will (hopefully) see Chris Hemsworth’s hammer-swinging superhero battle Christopher Eccleston’s evil Malekith and his army of Dark Elves. He’ll also be reunited with Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster and fellow Earth pals Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) and Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård), who’ll help out in defeating these evildoers.
THOR: THE DARK WORLD co-stars Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins. It’s expected in cinemas 8th November.

Jump Magazine has a few new details out this week on Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster, although not quite the release date many fans are looking forward to.
Similar to Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX, Final Fantasy X will see around 60 of its tracks rearranged for the HD version. Masashi Hamauzu – one of the game’s original composers and also responsible for Final Fantasy XIII’s score – has even participated in bringing these new arrangements to life.
The magazine also talks about trophies in the game – suggesting there could be some that provide a real challenge to the player. Fancy a go at the celestial weapons? While nothing is explicitly confirmed, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to see where Square Enix is going with this. Platinum seekers just might want to prepare themselves to face 200 lightning bolts, just in case.
Again, no news on a release date as of yet, but the magazine promises something on that front soon. The game is still scheduled to release sometime this year on both PlayStation 3 and PS Vita, with the later split into two separate titles.
We really aren't getting nearly enough FFX | X-2 HD updates. I want some more X-2 screenshots as well, damnit. And also for someone to say "oh btw we changed up those joke side missions completely in X so there are better and actually fun ways to attain the celestial weapons you're welcome"

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is to be released as an extended edition DVD with extras including a peek at some deleted scenes.
Imagine how long the films would be if all of these had made it in.
Ahead of the DVD, we’ve got a sneak peek at one of the deleted scenes, which stars Sherlock star Martin Freeman as hobbit Bilbo Baggins.
Struggling to cope with the quest to help the dwarves recover their gold, Bilbo is comforted by Elrond (Hugo Weaving), the elf lord. Elrond attempts to comfort Bilbo, but simply explains his two options, leaving Bilbo still searching for the right answer (note: the video takes a few seconds to start).
Alongside the deleted scenes there’s interviews, commentary and more, adding up to a whopping nine hours of additional footage from the New Zealand-based filming.
The new extended DVD will be released for digital download on October 22 and available to buy on Blu-ray and DVD on November 4.
The second instalment of the Hobbit films, The Desolation of Smaug, lands in cinemas on December 13.

Little miss mini Mariah previews a brand new track for her fans.
Up until very recently, we felt like Ariana Grande was "quietly" slaying the pop music game with smashes like the Mac Miller-assisted "The Way" and its follow-up single, "Baby I." Yeah, well, it might be time to replace "quietly" with "VERY LOUDLY," because Ariana has just released a preview of a new song, "Piano," and this track sounds like a real game changer.
Although we're only treated to about 15 seconds of "Piano," slated to appear on Ariana's Yours Truly disc, dropping Sept. 3, Ariana's Instagram video offers just enough to hear the record's sparkling, sunshiney pop production -- a slight left turn from the slick, R&B-driven vibe of "The Way." Basically, if anyone wanted to call "Piano" the 2013 version of Mariah Carey's "Fantasy," we wouldn't be mad at them ONE BIT! And, while we can't make out all the lyrics, we can hear Ariana's now-signature, definitely Mariah-inspired upper register melisma.
Anyway, it sounds like Ariana's got another hit on her hands! Aaaaand we'd politely suggest that other female pop chanteuses (ahem, Victoria Justice -- no shade!) prepare accordingly for Sept. 3. Just sayin'.

NEW YORK, July 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Scholastic (NASDAQ: SCHL), the global children's publishing, education and media company, today unveiled the new cover for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- the seventh and final trade paperback edition with new covers illustrated by New York Times bestselling author and illustrator, Kazu Kibuishi. The Scholastic Store hosted an exciting event to celebrate the unveiling of the new cover of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The Scholastic Store party was packed with Harry Potter fans of all ages, a welcoming Hagrid and live snakes, toads and owls. Hundreds of fans, many of whom were dressed as their favorite Harry Potter characters, joined in a host of fun activities including potion and wand-making and thrilled at the chance to be the first to see the new book trailer that will appear in theaters this summer. Fifty lucky fans received lithographs of the seventh book cover signed by Kibuishi.
Following today's unveiling, Scholastic will release the seven back covers of the new paperback trade editions illustrated by Kazu Kibuishi, one each day from August 1(st) through 7(th) . Each day at 9 a.m. (EDT or eastern time), fans can see the amazing new Harry Potter art at www.oomscholasticblog.com.
In each of the new cover illustrations, Kibuishi perfectly captures a pivotal moment from that particular book. For Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the illustration shows Harry, Ron and Hermione clinging to the back of a gigantic dragon, as they are carried ever closer to the pivotal battle which will determine the fate of the entire wizarding world.
The artwork on the box set portrays a sweeping panorama of Hogsmeade, the picturesque village near Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry, Ron, and Hermione, as well as Dumbledore and Hagrid, walk through town, past Honeydukes Sweetshop, and Zonko's Joke Shop. One special feature of the box set is the dramatic spine artwork which, as the volumes are placed in the order from one to seven, becomes a breathtaking view of Hogwarts at sunset. The entire box becomes an invitation to enter the enchanting world of the Harry Potter stories.

An Orange Is the New Black binge is the best kind of binge, in which the shame—“I watched six hours of it last night” —is merely faux shame. The Netflix prison drama is so good that you brag about how much of it you watched the night before. And here at The Daily Beast, we’ve all been feasting.
It’s rare for our diversified staff—with beats ranging from Amanda Bynes to the science of the female orgasm to Syria—to unite over a single pop-culture obsession, but that’s what’s happened with the addictive Orange Is the New Black. Morning meetings devolve into updates on how far people have gotten in the series, interrupted by stern warnings NOT to spoil a thing. More frequent are passionate debates over which of the show’s zany prison inmates is the best character.
Now, we’re taking the debate online. Here, members of our staff each makes a case for a favorite character from the show. (Because we’ve already devoted entire stories to the magnificence of Yoga Jones (Constance Shulman) and the heroic lead performance of Taylor Schilling as Piper Chapman, those characters were off limits.) Doctor Who star David Tennant has warned fans that his Time Lord character in the show’s 50th anniversary special episode may seem “slightly different”.
Speaking to SFX, the Tenth Doctor actor revealed that working alongside his sci-fi successor Matt Smith has provided him with “fresh challenges” in revisiting the role that won him four National Television Awards.
"The Doctor tends to lead every scene he is in and when you are sharing that out it becomes slightly different," the 42-year-old explained.
"You have a new relationship with that aspect of the character and that gives you fresh challenges to work on."
The Broadchurch star added that he was not "surprised" to be asked back for the anniversary celebration, scheduled to air across the world on November 23.
"There is a precedent to this, isn't there?" he said.
"For a long time I was starting to think it was never going to happen, so there was an element of surprise there. But the general concept [of a story involving multiple Doctors] was something I always expected."
Earlier this month, a Doctor Who costume designer seemed to confirm that the special episode will feature a “dark Doctor”.
Howard Burden is believed to have said that John Hurt will play a ‘missing link’ in the Time Lord regeneration process during a royal tour of the BBC studios in Cardiff.
He is reported to have said: “There was a gap between Paul McGann playing the Doctor and Christopher Eccleston, when we didn’t see a regeneration, and John Hurt will fit into that gap. He is a past Doctor, not a future Doctor.”
In May, 73-year-old Hurt revealed that he plays “part of the Doctor” in a “kind of trinity” when speaking to the Eastern Daily Press.
Hurt had previously remained tight-lipped about his role in the episode – although he looked to be dressed in historical attire when snapped on set at Chepstow Castle in Wales in April.

Out with the old, in with the new! We can hardly keep up with Lady Gaga’s eccentric fashion choices…and it looks like neither could her stylist!
Nicola Formichetti has recently quit his job as Lady Gaga‘s stylist. The 37-year-old songstress will now be dressed by Formichetti’s ex-assistant, Brandon Maxwell.
Whether Lady Gaga is wearing Kermit the frog or a fridge full of meat, her outfits always do one thing: get our attention. The “Artpop” singer’s eccentric style is part of her persona, becoming an iconic part of her image. However, that might be changing. Gaga’s former stylist and friend, Nicola Formichetti, has announced that he will not longer be styling the ‘Mother Monster.’
Instead, the job will be going to Formichetti’s ex-assistant, Brandon Maxwell, who has taken over.
Why Nicola Formichetti Quit Styling Lady Gaga:
The former Mugler director revealed the reason he decided to quit the job after years with the Grammy winning artist.
“She’s going to be my BFF forever, but my ex-assistant Brandon is heading that project. I’m too busy with [other commitments]. I’ve done two albums with her, it’s been like five years, and you know, I’m always going to be involved somehow, but I cannot do it every day. She changes 12 times a day; it’s insane.”
Well, we’re glad there’s no hard feelings! But what will this mean for Lady Gaga’s future in crazy couture?
The Future Fashion Of Lady Gaga:
Maxwell told WWD:
“I think that this time it is about letting some of it go and the focus being on the music because now she’s comfortable being naked and being who she is. The world has seen everything. It’s more toned down and pulled back and chic. But it’s also that we’re making suits out of things that they would not normally be made out of, like plastic, but they’re super well-tailored and clean. Maybe she’s just wearing a simple catsuit and a head wrap…but we sort of do the craziness on the face.”

Michael Gambon has also been cast in the drama, which will chart Lucan's exploits as a member of the infamous Clermont set and the collapse of his marriage.
Lucan will also explore the murder of Sandra Rivett - nanny to Lucan's children - and what role the man himself may have played in the crime.
"The story of Lord Lucan continues to mystify and intrigue us," said ITV's director of drama commissioning Steve November.
"Jeff's reputation for award-winning factual drama goes before him, and these new scripts offer a compelling insight into the events surrounding Lucan's disappearance."
Lucan will begin shooting in August in and around London.
I'm always here for Chris's British TV work, especially since Thor 2 is really looking like a flop. Thoughts, ONTD?
"An open letter to my sister, Amanda Bynes"
As we all know I do interviews every single day about all my various projects, whether promoting AGT, Wild’N Out, my album, my stand-up special, NCredible consumer products, and various philanthropic and charitable efforts. Usually during these interviews I am consistently questioned about my wife, my kids, and my health and I happily answer them all. But as of lately I have been hit with an onslaught of questions about someone I consider family, someone I watched grow up, and someone I genuinely feel is one of the most pleasant human beings I have had the pleasure of meeting, Amanda Bynes.
The questions have ranged from, “Have you spoken to Amanda" to “Are you working on her rap album". Sometimes I would answer in a playful humorous manner and sometimes I would brush it off as another Pop culture topic that a reporter was trying to retrieve a sound bite for. But after recent events of Amanda being admitted under psychiatric care and reported as 5150, I see this as no laughing matter. I tweeted a few weeks about how the entertainment industry just consumes people and spits them out like flavorless bubblegum. A few chews of enjoyment then they’re under a city bus bench. Don’t get me wrong this is not a pity for the popular statement. I am always the first to say that fame and entertainment is one of the best and easiest occupations to ever have, but one must know how to navigate through the matrix or you may find yourself in a very dark hole. When a person is told all of their life that they are awesome, the best, the greatest and they are catered to every moment of the day. Imagine being the breadwinner in your household before you can even drive. Imagine you parents, teachers, and employers NEVER telling you NO. Anything you ask for or want, the world gives you, at some point you are bound to self-destruct. I call this “access to excess". I’ve seen it happen to many of my friends and colleagues young and old.

Rules of Engagement‘s Oliver Hudson is making his way to Nashville this fall as a recurring love interest for Connie Britton’s Rayna, TVLine has learned.
According to sources, Hudson will play a charming, audacious, take-no-prisoners businessman who promises to “shake things up in Nashville.”
Nashville‘s second season, set to premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 25, will jump ahead several months after Rayna and Deacon’s car accident. The near-death experience sends Rayna’s album sales soaring, making her the apple in the eye of her label’s new top exec (Hudson).
Hudson is the ABC drama’s second new Season 2 hire, joining Chaley Rose as Scarlett’s longtime BFF.
The cast and producers of Showtime’s Homeland appeared at the Television Critics’ Assoc. summer press tour on Monday to preview Season 3 — with at least one actor doing his best to conceal a major plot point.

"It was really hard because I love to eat and drink!" Damon, 42, told PEOPLE on Tuesday at a special New York screening of the sci fi film hosted by 2(X)IST Watches. "It's very hard to motivate me to get in shape."
But when the film's director Neill Blomkamp showed him pictures of Elysium's leading character, Max, a tattoo-covered tough guy who wears an exoskeleton strength suit, "I went okay, this is definitely worth it," Damon says.
The recent Emmy nominee went on a strict diet and spent four hours a day at the gym for months, pumping iron and doing cardio. As a result, PEOPLE's 2007 Sexiest Man Alive bulked up with a chiseled set of rock-hard abs and bulging biceps.
So what did Damon's wife Luciana think of his ripped physique?
"I think she likes the variety," he says with a laugh. "When I did The Informant, I put on 40 lbs. and I was like, 'You kind of like this guy too?' I'm trying to talk her into [liking] that guy because that's the guy I'm most comfortable being."
Fortunately for the Oscar winner, who renewed his wedding vows to Luciana in St. Lucia last April, she made a promise to spend the rest of her life with him no matter what.
"I'm at the point in my life where somebody was silly enough to marry me," Damon says, "and won't leave me if I put on a few pounds!"
Two of Parks and Recreation's regulars are exiting the series.
Rob Lowe, who joined in season two, and Rashida Jones, a core player since its inception, will depart NBC's returning fall comedy in the middle of the upcoming sixth season, The Hollywood Reporter confirms. Lowe and Jones are expected to leave Parks and Recreation — which was picked up for a full season — following the 13th episode.
Featuring one of the best ensembles you'll like see at the movies this year—Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner, Amy Adams, Louis C.K., Jennifer Lawrence, Alessandro Nivola, Elisabeth Rohm, Dawn Olivieri, Jack Huston, Michael Pena and Robert De Niro—the movie follows a financial con artist (Bale) and his mistress/partner in crime (Adams) who are forced to work with an out of control federal agent (Cooper) to turn the tables on other con artists, mobsters and politicians.

We’ve spent the last few days putting together some puzzle pieces and working out just what’s going on with Duncan Jones‘ Warcraft movie. This time last week, my only impressions of what the film might entail had come from a “tone trailer” screened at San Diego Comic-Con, the games themselves and an appreciation of Jones’ previous work.
Now, though, an image has come together of where the project is headed and it looks like Jones is planning a full-blooded fantasy movie, as much like John Millius’ Conan as The Lord of the Rings. This is definitely proper Sword and Sorcery stuff.

You are never out of the fight: HuffPost Entertainment and sister site Moviefone are happy to premiere the first trailer for "Lone Survivor," a new drama starring Mark Wahlberg, Ben Foster, Taylor Kitsch, Eric Bana and Emile Hirsch. Peter Berg ("Friday Night Lights") directs the film, which is due out in limited release on Dec. 27 before a nationwide bow in January.
"We have seen the first cut of 'Lone Survivor' and it is soulful, gritty, tough, emotional and, quite frankly, remarkable," Universal chairman Adam Fogelson said at CinemaCon back in April. Watch the "Lone Survivor" trailer in the window above.
Based on the book "Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of Seal Team 10," Berg's film focuses on an elite unit of Navy SEALs who encountered an army of Taliban forces in the Afghanistan mountains during a raid in 2005. As the title indicates, the events end with tragic consequences for most of the heroic soldiers; Berg's film deals with the group's fateful mission.

Former “Victorious” star and current “Twisted” star Avan Jogia is presenting at the Do Something awards tonight! Avan shared the following note with his fans:
Looking forward to presenting at the @dosomething awards this evening watch @VH1 tonight at 8/7c to see some well-deserved nominees awarded
Do you plan on watching?
At 9 p.m., “Twisted” ranked as cable TV’s #1 telecast in the hour for the 4th week running in Viewers 12-34 (769,000/0.8 rating), for the 8th consecutive week in Females 12-34 (657,000/1.4 rating) and Female Teens (303,000/2.6 rating) – each week since its launch – and was the #1 original cable TV telecast in Women 18-34 (353,000/1.0 rating).
The star sued Topshop's parent company Arcadia for $5 million (£3.3m) over the T-shirts, which featured a photo taken during a video shoot in 2011.
Her lawyers told the High Court in London the fashion chain duped fans and may have damaged her reputation.
They said the picture was "very similar" to images used on CD sleeves for one of her albums.
Judge Mr Justice Birss ruled that a "substantial number" of buyers were likely to have been deceived into buying the T-shirt because of a "false belief" it had been approved by the singer.

Via Fox Sports:
Athletic culture trumped Hollywood culture.
This is no longer the case. Jay-Z, a rapper who glorifies his former life as a drug dealer, has far more cultural influence than LeBron James. Jay-Z is this generation’s Joe D, and Beyonce is Marilyn Monroe.
Al Capone is a bigger deal than Babe Ruth.
Aaron Hernandez is a reflection of where we are as a society. Like Allen Iverson and an endless plethora of fatherless and directionless modern athletes since the end of Michael Jordan’s reign, Hernandez saw his athletic gifts as a platform to represent where he was from, not where he hoped to go.
He repped the 860. He kept it real. He stayed true to his boyz from the ‘hood. He mimicked the mindset of the pop-culture icons we celebrate today.

Civil servants preparing for a third world war drafted an address to the nation in which the Queen would speak of the horror of Britain’s involvement in a nuclear conflict.
It was part of a detailed “war game” carried out in 1983, in which Whitehall officials played the roles of Margaret Thatcher and members of her cabinet responding to a simulated attack by the Soviet Union.
Wintex-Cimex 83 was the Nato code name for the exercise, which was designed to test the West’s responses in the event of a nuclear strike and included a speech to be delivered by the Queen after the declaration of war. The monarch was to speak of a third struggle for freedom in “this sad century” in a reference to the two previous world wars.
The text includes references to the Queen having enjoyed the “warmth and fellowship of a family Christmas” when “the horrors of war could not have seemed more remote”.
In the imagined broadcast, she would also recall the pride she felt when she and her sister, Princess Margaret, huddled around the nursery wireless set listening to the inspiring words of their father, George VI, on the “fateful” day when Britain declared war on Nazi Germany in 1939.

When Simon Pegg and I wrote the screenplay for ‘The World’s End’ in 2011, we realised that the language was getting rather strong, going so far as to utter the dreaded ‘c word’ three times. Unsure whether this would get us a ’15′ or an ’18′ certificate and very much hoping for the former, I wrote to the British Board Of Film Classification for help and guidance.

Hello, let's watch Paul Scheer & Max Greenfield do a word-for-word reenactment of Arsenio Hall's 1991 interview w/ Vanilla Ice.

Poor Rachel McAdams. Three time-travel movies and not a whiff of the action. First was 2009's The Time Traveller's Wife, in which Eric Bana played a Chicago librarian darting through time while his on-screen wife McAdams plodded on faithfully in the present. Then, two years later, came Midnight in Paris. Owen Wilson got to party in the roaring 1920s every day of his holiday, while oblivious fiancee McAdams went sightseeing. And now Richard Curtis's new film, About Time, sees McAdams stay home as her partner Domhnall Gleeson goes time-travelling in secret, in a bid to change his past and have a better future. This time it's a gift – passed down the male line of the family.
McAdams is not alone in being overlooked. From 1981's Time Bandits to the more recent Hot Tub Time Machine, sci-fi films have rarely allowed female characters to leave the present. When Marty McFly's girlfriend tried to come along for the ride in Back to the Future II, she was hastily sedated by the Doc for "asking too many questions". In their excellent adventures, Bill and Ted travelled to medieval times to meet some "babes"; true, the women were then permitted to time-travel – but only with male characters, and purely to serve their needs. Hardly the sort of time-travelling role models women need.
While many of these films are immensely entertaining, it's a curious trend that shortchanges female characters and, by extension, female viewers. At first glance, you could simply put this down to the historical dominance of male heroes in cinema. It's a patriarchal world and mainstream movies aren't always quick to reflect advancements in equality. But while other areas of sci-fi were making progress – take Sigourney Weaver beating her many-jawed foes in the Alien films – the time-travel genre, ironically, stood still. Yes, as far back as 1984 The Terminator gave us a groundbreaking action heroine in Linda Hamilton, but the bouffe-haired damsel in distress was still confined to the here and now, chased by one time-traveller and bedded by the other (in order to give birth to a future saviour). And the men didn't just get to time-travel: they got to go naked, too.

I don’t know. I didn’t even know Solange was any sort of actress. But, she almost never has her hair straight like Aaliyah did. This is as close to Aaliyah as could see with Solange.

Profiles in History, a memorabilia and historical collectible dealer best known auctioning off some of Hollywood's most coveted movie props and costumes, recently finished up its Hollywood Auction #56. Notable items from past auctions have included the hat of the Wicked Witch of the West, Marilyn Monroe's famous "Subway dress" from The Seven Year Itch, and a Luke Skywalker light saber screen-used in Star Wars. This time around, potential Hollywood collectors had the chance to bit on some unusual props, plenty of costumes, and more Hollywood glamor prints than Rafiki could shake a stick at.

With “Veronica Mars” raising more than $5 million for a movie, E! News asked “Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s” Sarah Michelle Gellar if that model could bring her character back from the dead. The response was more than enthusiastic…
“Joss [Whedon] and I always talk about [a movie],” Gellar told them. “But the thing with Buffy is that Buffy was a movie, and it ultimately didn’t work as a film. And I mean, we had such miles to overcome when we were trying to do a TV show based on a movie. And one of the reasons is that the story works better over time.”
And now here comes the tiny sliver: “If there was ever the right story, we would do it.”
Gellar also jokes that, “At this point, the stake would be my walker and I would be hobbling in.“

Actress Debi Mazar dropped by the clubhouse on "Watch What Happens: Live" and Andy Cohen couldn't wait to ask her a few questions about her BFF, Madonna. The two have been friends since before either one of them had any sort of fame.
Cohen did limit himself to 45 seconds, but anyone who knows how fast he talks knows that he can still pump a lot of questions at her in that span of time. Through his grilling of Mazar he learned that Madge smells like gardenias, loves salted fish and is a feisty Leo. Mazar also said that "Sean" was Madonna's true love -- but when asked to clarify if she was referring to Sean Penn, she said only, "Maybe."
“Did Madonna ever steal any of your boyfriends?” Cohen asked her. Mazar said yes, but then backed up. She said that Madonna had tried to steal her boyfriend, but it didn't happen. She also revealed a strange Madonna-Bravo connection. Apparently, Madonna used to get "spiritual baths" and "blessings" from self-professed witch, Mama Elsa of "The Real Housewives of Miami."
Mazar and Madonna met in an elevator back in the '80s before Madonna became a superstar.

These days, when Miley Cyrus needs some advice about life in the spotlight, she knows where to turn. In a new interview, the former Disney princess revealed that she looks to none other than fellow Mouse House alum Britney Spears.
"Everyone goes through a time in their life where they don't want their picture taken every day. [Britney] just never had that time where she could say, 'I'm going through something right now and need to shut down,' " she told Huffington Post U.K. "I also don't have that, so it's good to have that one person in my life who gets it."
Cyrus rose to fame on Disney's "Hannah Montana," nearly 15 years after Spears made her TV debut on the '90s reboot of "The Mickey Mouse Club" on the same cable network. So it's not too surprising that she feels a kinship with the 31-year-old pop star. Spears has publicly weathered her fair share of ups and downs, and Miley has been under the microscope lately for everything from her fashion choices to her partying.
"I just think it's never blaming you or making you feel like, 'You've got all this going for you,' " Miley explained of why Spears is such a good pal. "It's like, she knows. Sometimes life just steps in the middle of your career the way life always does for anyone — it's just ours is a little more 24/7."
"I think people forget what it feels like to be 20," she said. "People just evolve and that's all that's happened to me. But people think a mad scientist somehow cooked up this potion and turned me into a different human, which it wasn't. All I did was get a haircut and buy some clothes and everyone thinks that I am made into a robot that changes with what's popular every 10 years."

This week, a small-scale indie Australian surfing movie called “Drift,” which details two surfing brothers struggling to overcome their debt-ridden backgrounds and avoid a descent into criminality, opens in limited release. It shares almost nothing in common with the Biggest-Movie-Of-All-Time “Avatar” except its star,Sam Worthington, who in fact plays third lead here behind two largely unknown Aussie actors as the brothers. If it seems like a far cry from Pandora for Worthington, well, that’s because it is. Nothing to do with the quality of the film, but just in terms of the whisper-quiet buzz it’s getting, which Worthington’s presence alone should have beefed up if his stock in Hollywood meant anything at all. Yet despite a concerted effort that happened back there, Worthington just hasn’t ever become a bankable studio lead, and so here we are.
It’s hardly the first time (and won't be the last) Hollywood has decided that a certain actor is gonna be huge and has done all it can to make that happen, and yet it hasn’t. It’s kind of strange and a little unfair that in a town where we’re regularly assured that every waiter is an actor waiting for his break, some never get a shot while others get more than one, even if audiences don’t embrace them the first time out. But it also shows how strange an echo-box tinseltown can be — sometimes all that needs to happen is that Studio X hears Studio Y loves This Guy for their next big star, and Studio X then has to cast him, and so on. Then a few years later This Guy has six movies coming out, and is on every magazine cover, and audiences, unless they fall in love with him instantly, feel a little aggrieved that they’re so forcefully being sold an unknown quantity.
The circumstances differ, but the phenomenon is the same, so we’ve taken a look at the careers of 10 actors who, despite repeated attempts, We The Audience in our fickle magnificence have simply not deemed worthy of the A-list.

Our must-read, must-watch list just keeps getting bigger—really, it's becoming downright unwieldy! But nevertheless, we've gotta cram one more item on there: the exciting sci-fi novel "Elusion," which is such a hot prospect that it's already bound for Hollywood even though the book isn't out until March.
According to Deadline, the book by Claudia Gabel and Cheryl Klam has been picked up for a movie adaptation by Silver Reel and FlynnPictureCo.
Following in the footsteps of mind-bending thrillers like "Inception," "Strange Days" and "Total Recall," "Elusion" is a story that takes place in one of the weirdest, wildest, most potentially horrifying settings possible: inside the HUMAN BRAIN. In it, two teenagers discover that their favorite game—an alternate reality journey that uses hypnosis to transport players into another, inner universe—is anything but a harmless leisure activity. Ah yes: because it's all fun and games, until somebody loses their mind.
"Elusion" will be out in March 2014, with a sequel, "Etherworld," slated for 2015.
