Ahead of next week's announcements of the newest shows headed for broadcast television, Cartoon Network's Adult Swim has announced its own programming schedule for the 2013-2014 season. And it's eclectic, to say the least, mixing new work from The Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder and Community's Dan Harmon with a show that teams Mike Tyson up with a pigeon to solve mysteries. No, really.
Adult Swim has long been quietly dominating basic cable television; last year saw its highest ratings for adults and males in the 18-24, 18-34 and 18-49 demographic and for the last eight years, it's been the #1 basic cable channel for young adults, thanks to shows like Robot Chicken, The Boondocks, Children's Hospital and, of course, The Venture Bros. (All of which will return for the new season).
Presumably, it's this success that has fueled the unusual nature of some of the new shows being added to the channel for next season, which include a fake Canadian version of Entertainment Tonight called Hot Package, Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell (a series about an associate demon trying to climb the corporate ladder in Hell from the creators of Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law) and, most surreally of all, Mike Tyson Mysteries, which is officially explained thusly:

Rumors surrounding the film adaptation of the bestselling bathtub novel Fifty Shades of Grey have been frequent, titillating, and circulated around the internet more than actual porn (just kidding, not possible). People went blind with excitement trying to cast Christian Grey. Ian Somerhalder, Alex Pettyfer, Stephen Amell? Rumors of Emma Watson being cast as Ana were intriguing, but ultimately disappointing. The most recent report says the movie might have found its director: Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice, Anna Karenina)

Renowned author Dan Brown woke up in his luxurious four-poster bed in his expensive $10 million house – and immediately he felt angry. Most people would have thought that the 48-year-old man had no reason to be angry. After all, the famous writer had a new book coming out. But that was the problem. A new book meant an inevitable attack on the rich novelist by the wealthy wordsmith’s fiercest foes. The critics.
Renowned author Dan Brown hated the critics. Ever since he had become one of the world’s top renowned authors they had made fun of him. They had mocked bestselling book The Da Vinci Code, successful novel Digital Fortress, popular tome Deception Point, money-spinning volume Angels & Demons and chart-topping work of narrative fiction The Lost Symbol.
The critics said his writing was clumsy, ungrammatical, repetitive and repetitive.
This makes some good points about popular fiction. Making money is important.

James Ellroy’s 1990s novel L.A. Confidential was turned into an acclaimed feature starring Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe and Kim Basinger and produced by Regency. Now Ellroy and New Regency are shopping an L.A. Confidential sequel targeted for the small screen, Deadline said.
Ellroy wrote the project on spec as a TV drama series, which is being pitched to broadcast and cable networks as well as emerging distribution platforms, with multiple outlets interested. The project is reportedly eyeing a straight-to-series commitment. The sequel continues the themes and stories from L.A. Confidential, a murder mystery which examined the intersection of organized crime, police corruption, celebrity and tabloid journalism in 1950s Los Angeles. The 1997 film, co-written and directed by Curtis Hanson, earned nine Oscar nominations, winning two awards, for best screenplay and best supporting actress (Basinger).
The L.A. Confidential sequel is one of the first major projects to come out of the TV division of New Regency, which was re-started last year with the hire of Syfy’s Andrew Plotkin. It combines the company’s strategy of mining its movie library for TV series adaptations and bringing in new material. Meanwhile, Ellroy just sold another LA-set period drama. Based on Ellroy’s 2012 novella Shakedown, the project, which has been set up at FX as a pitch, is set in the tabloid world and underbelly of Los Angeles circa the late 1950s.

Gerard Butler was seen chatting up Miranda Kerr on Tuesday evening at a New York party after a screening of The Great Gatsby.
Kerr was smiling and the pair “had been standing close in conversation for 20 minutes”, a source told the New York Post.
But then Butler was spotted asking photographers to erase any shots of them together.
“When he approached one photographer to erase the photos, they high-fived and bro-hugged,” the source said.
Also at the party were Lady Gaga and her boyfriend Taylor Kinney.
The singer had security “whisk her to a seat via a side door next to the stage.”
But before the credits rolled on the Baz Luhrmann epic, Gaga had already slipped out to avoid cameras.

Oscar-nominated actress Angela Bassett and Broadway legend Patti LuPone are joining the cast of American Horror Story: Coven, the witch-themed third chapter of FX’s hit spookfest.
AHS co-creator Ryan Murphy announced the news on Twitter early Sunday.
They join returning AHS fixtures Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Frances Conroy and Taissa Farmiga, in addition to fellow Oscar nominee Gabourey Sidibe and Oscar winner Kathy Bates.
Coven will mark the first time AHS will go on the road and shoot on location. (The Harmon House and asylum interiors of Seasons 1 and 2 were sets on a studio.) “The fun thing is researching what are the really haunted places in America, and we have a couple doozy locales,” Murphy revealed at Paley Fest last month.
And while the name Coven implies a central storyline pertaining to witches, Murphy noted that the scares will come from a variety of sources. “It’s about a lot of things,” he added.
Murphy had also previously stated that the new season will be “more historical in nature” and take place in modern day. But just like past seasons, we will see different “time periods” and “there [will] also be different cities.” Bates and Lange, meanwhile, will portray best friends-turned-arch enemies.

And to pull this off, I have to be in top condition and running at full speed.”
“I’m excited because the shows will have state-of-the-art technology and be really cutting-edge. But a big part of my decision to do this was my boys. When they’re not with me in Nevada, I can hop on a plane and be with them in Los Angeles in 45 minutes.”

Sorry for the massive pics, mods. I resized all of them to message board size now.
Yesterday, Jimmy Kimmel hosted the fourth round of his feature "Celebrities Read Mean Tweets," in which real, live celebrities read negative Twitter messages about themselves aloud. Journalist and writer Rebecca Dana found some of them so funny that she suspected they were written by professionally funny people. So she checked on Twitter to see if any professional comedians were behind them.
Instead, it seemed that no one was: Some of these tweets or the accounts purportedly behind them didn't exist.
What better use of a calm Friday afternoon than to take the investigation further, through the whole history of the feature? Many of the accounts, on examination, had been suspended. That's not too surprising, given that they had been publicly highlighted for rudeness. But a few accounts had only posted one message—the one that amazingly made it on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Maybe they were set up as burners, for the writers to dismiss one star of choice and get out of there? A few accounts and tweets never turned up at all.
The first round of "Celebrities Read Mean Tweets" seems to be clean. All 14 of those posts are held by real, probably mean, Twitter users, who are still actively griping. The next set also looks pretty solid, with only two dubious accounts. But by the third round of "Celebrities Read Mean Tweets," three of the posts were suspicious, and one seems certainly fake. In the fourth and most recent installment, it's likely that four of the 13 posts are fake, with one more very suspicious contender.
The standouts of possible sham slander are in the source, with the videos of celebrities reading mean tweets following each set.
It's hard to believe there's not enough genuine negativity on Twitter for the show to work with. Let that chaotic realm of inanity do the work for you, comedians. Take the afternoon off.

It's long been known that Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis were making plans to record together the year before Hendrix's death in 1970, but it turns out the pioneering guitarist and jazz trumpeter were hoping that Paul McCartney would join them on bass. Hendrix, Davis and jazz drummer Tony Williams sent a telegram on Oct. 21, 1969, to the Beatles' Apple Records, hoping to get McCartney in for a session.
"We are recording and LP together this weekend in NewYork [sic]," reads the note, according to The Associated Press. "How about coming in to play bass stop call Alvan Douglas 212-5812212. Peace Jimi Hendrix Miles Davis Tony Williams."
It's unclear if McCartney was aware of the request. The telegram advises him to contact producer Alan Douglas, and is seemingly an impromptu note asking McCartney to visit New York from London on short notice. Beatles aide Peter Brown responded the next day, telling Hendrix and Davis that McCartney was out on vacation and wasn't expected back for two weeks.
The telegram was poorly timed for McCartney. That same day, DJ Roby Yonge from New York's WABC furthered the rumor that McCartney had died in a car crash and had been replaced by an imposter. The Beatles themselves were also dealing with internal strife that likely wouldn't have eased with a potential McCartney-Hendrix-Davis collaboration.
Davis said in his 1990 autobiography that he sometimes jammed with Hendrix at his New York apartment, but finances and busy schedules prevented them from entering the studio. Hendrix biographer Charles Shaar Murray and others say Davis sought $50,000 up front for the session. Davis also wrote in his book that he and arranger Gil Evans were in Europe planning to record with Hendrix at the time of guitarist's death in London.
The telegram, a part of the Hard Rock Cafe's memorabilia collection, was purchased at an auction in 1995. But it's received more attention with the March release of People, Hell and Angels, a collection of 12 previously unreleased recordings from Hendrix. "[The telegram is] not something you hear about a lot," said Hard Rock historian Jeff Nolan. "Major Hendrix connoisseurs are aware of it. It would have been one of the most insane supergroups. These four cats certainly reinvented their instruments and the way they're perceived." The telegram is now on display at the Hard Rock Cafe in Prague in the Czech Republic.
SEX & THE CITY star and thespian Kim Cattrall takes on the role of a lifetime - that of Alexandra Del Lago - in the new West End production of SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH by Tennessee Williams, co-starring breakout GOLDEN BOY star Seth Numrich.
The new poster for the revival production of the steamy Williams tale of an actress and a gigolo has just been revealed and it certainly shows off the two appealing stars quite well - and some of their best assets, too.
Cattrall discussed her participation in SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH in a recent interview, stating, "I was doing PRIVATE LIVES in the West End about two years ago and Kevin Spacey came to see it and he took me for lunch a few days later and said 'I have an idea...," he said, 'SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH'. And I said, 'Alright, if you can get Marianne Elliott to direct it, I'll do it,' and he did!"
Commenting further, Cattrall compares the steamy Williams drama about a desperate relationship between two unlikely lovers to another recent role, that of tragic queen Cleopatra in George Bernard Shaw's telling of the classic tale of ANTONY & CLEOPATRA.
"Every play is a journey. ANTONY & CLEOPATRA isn't a comedy in three acts either - at least this woman doesn't die with a snake at her breast," she says of Princess Kosmonopolis (aka Alexandra Del Lago).
Cattrall continues, "I think it's a beautiful journey for both of them, and somewhat of a love affair really, because I think these people in some ways, who are discovering all of this, are maybe meant to be together," she insightfully reveals.

Doctor Who Fans: Leave the Internet NOW
Okay, the following is an instruction for those of you who don’t want to find themselves spoilered by what is an almighty cock-up in North American: Blu-ray editions of Doctor Who Series 7 Part Two have shipped already, and include The Name of the Doctor.
To repeat: The Name of the Doctor has been leaked to thousands of Doctor Who fans in the USA, via the BBC America shop.
It is only a matter of time before one such recipient decides to leak the episode online. When this happens, the World Wide Web will be awash with conversation about the finale.
As such, you should be making active preparations to disconnect from the Internet – and, we regret to say, Kasterborous – until next Saturday. While we won’t be spoilering the finale in any way, shape or form, we’re sure that Twitter, Facebook, and other websites will.
Okay, here’s out first update to this story. First of all, Edward Russell, who used to be BBC Brand Manager for Doctor Who:
A “production error” affecting distribution? Unusual setup they have there, eh?
But the most important thing is this: even if those recipients of the Blu-ray edition in North America have the knowledge to rip and upload the episode, you shouldn’t download it. You have no way of knowing what the file you’re downloading is before making checks. Although some download sites have comments features for downloaders to share their opinions of the file concerned, most don’t.
Given the number of threats Doctor Who fans have faced from scammers recently (from “adult pics” of Jenna-Louise Coleman to Rogue Cyberman – who apparently has managed to get hold of a copy, surprise, surprise) waiting six days isn’t going to kill you, is it?
I'll be updating the post, so keep checking in case there's something new.

Let’s first look at Cersei Lannister. Cersei is of the opinion that when you decide to have children, you should choose their father carefully. In Cersei’s case, she chose her twin brother, and why not? After all, your kids are essentially half you and half someone else, so why take the chance of that someone else mucking up your perfect genetic material with their own? Better to keep it in the family, says Cersei, that way you have perfect, untarnished copies of yourself. Of course, if you’re a horrible person like Cersei is, this plan could backfire (see: Joffrey)

Since we last posted the promo trailer on the site for the upcoming Lifetime series, there has been more backlash against the Eva Longoria-produced TV show Devious Maids, directed by Desperate Housewives' Marc Cherry, and starring Dania Ramirez, Ana Ortiz, Roselyn Sanchez, Edy Ganem, Judy Reyes and Susan Lucci.
If you haven't been following any of it, apparently The Huffington Post's Tanisha Ramirez posted an op-ed piece criticizing the show stating it was a "wasted opportunity" and that "the minute-long trailer manages to efficiently portray Latinas as hypersexual, nosy, scheming and, at times, totally invisible domestic servants, one set of pushed-up breasts, devilishly squinted eyes and sassy hair flip at a time. What the trailer doesn’t do, however, is allude to the supposed actual premise of the show."

Brooke Mueller, who entered the Betty Ford Clinic on May 9th, sent her attorney, Lori Howe, to a Los Angeles court on Friday in a desperate bid to have Denise Richards stripped as the temporary guardian of her twin boys to ex-husband Charlie Sheen.
There was no second guessing from the judge, Brooke’s request was shot down. The twins will be staying with Denise Richards for the foreseeable future. Bob and Max won’t be going out to Palm Springs to see her at Betty Ford on Mother’s Day, nor will her brother get temporary custody of them. Bob and Max are flourishing under the care of Denise, and the judge saw no reason to change that.
Mueller’s request for supervised visitation was also shot down as the judge cited the fact she was in rehab, and that wasn’t a suitable environment for the twins to be in.
The children were taken away by the Department of Children and Families and placed with Denise in early May after Brooke was placed under an Involuntary Psychiatric Hold at UCLA Medical Center. This her 20th time in rehab.
Denise stated in December of last year, when she also had temporary guardianship of the boys, that they are family and she would do anything for them.

First look at Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
NBC just released its fall and midseason schedule and several returning shows are making big moves.
The action-drama The Blacklist, starring James Spader, will get the most valuable piece of one-hour real estate — Mondays at 10 p.m. after The Voice. That means Revolution is shifting to Wednesdays at 8 p.m. Modest hit Chicago Fire will move to Tuesdays at 10 p.m., thus gaining a lead-in from The Voice results show in the fall — clearly NBC hopes to build Chicago into a bigger hit. Parenthood is moving, too, shifting to Thursdays at 10 p.m. (which has been a tough time period for NBC lately, but one you see why the network would think the family dramedy would be a good fit with its new comedies).
NBC will continue to program a two-hour comedy block Thursday nights. Parks and Recreation will shift to Community‘s 8 p.m. slot in the fall. The Thursday comedy lineup will include new family ensemble Welcome to the Family and two sitcoms featuring the return of NBC comedy veterans: Sean Hayes in Sean Saves the World and Michael J. Fox in the plainly titled The Michael J. Fox Show.
There’s been some worrisome buzz over NBC’s long-gestating direct-to-series project Dracula, starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and that title is going into Fridays at 10 p.m. and will be considered a limited series.
Saved for midseason: New comedies About a Boy and The Family Guide. New dramas Believe and Crisis will go on Sundays after football season concludes, with pirate drama Crossbones eventually going to Fridays. Community will be a midseason replacement at some point.

Kim Kardashian doesn't mind putting her life on display ... but her boyfriend does.
In a new interview with the U.K.'s Fabulous magazine, the reality star and mom-to-be, 32, admits that she and Kanye West, 35, deal with their personal lives much differently in the public eye.
"I'm definitely more of a recluse since I was pregnant. But I haven't necessarily decided to hold myself back, it's just preparing myself for respecting the privacy of my child and my boyfriend," Kardashian tells the magazine, adding of West, "We live different lives, but I love being open. That's who I've always been. That will never change because that is who I am."
Still, Kardashian admits she is concerned about raising her child in the spotlight.
"It does worry me when I think about it," she says, explaining that her younger sisters Kendall, 17, and Kylie, 15, give her a little inspiration.
"My little sisters have grown up so amazingly," Kardashian continues, "with really good heads on their shoulders."
As for West, we're not sure he's willing to air his life on camera just yet. The rapper, who has only appeared on "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" a few times, wants to keep his world under wraps.

Blacklist official NBC description:
For decades, ex-government agent Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader, “The Office,” “Boston Legal”) has been one of the FBI’s Most Wanted fugitives. Brokering shadowy deals for criminals across the globe, Red was known by many as “The Concierge of Crime.” Now, he’s mysteriously surrendered to the FBI with an explosive offer: He will help catch a long-thought-dead terrorist, Ranko Zamani, under the condition that he speaks only to Elizabeth “Liz” Keen (Megan Boone, “Law & Order: Los Angeles”), an FBI profiler fresh out of Quantico. For Liz, it’s going to be one hell of a first day on the job. What follows is a twisting series of events as the race to stop a terrorist begins. What are Red’s true intentions? Why has he chosen Liz, a woman with whom he seemingly has no connection? Does Liz have secrets of her own? Zamani is only the first of many on a list that Red has compiled over the years: a “blacklist” of politicians, mobsters, spies and international terrorists. He will help catch them all… with the caveat that Liz continues to work as his partner. Red will teach Liz to think like a criminal and “see the bigger picture”… whether she wants to or not. “The Blacklist” also stars are Diego Klattenhoff (“Homeland”), Harry Lennix (“Man of Steel”), Ryan Eggold (“90210”) and Ilfenesh Hadera (“Da Brick”).

BFI Southbank celebrates ‘The Love Goddess’ with screenings of classic films including Gilda, Cover Girl and You’ll Never Get Rich in June.
Rita Hayworth had a torrid personal life which saw her married and divorced five times by the time she was in her mid-forties, leading her to proclaim “men fell in love with Gilda, but they wake up with me”.
Throughout June, BFI Southbank will present a season of ten of her best-loved films, offering audiences a chance to fall in love not only with Gilda, but Rita and her many characters. If her star power was affirmed through pop-culture references alone, then Hayworth can be considered film royalty: in The Shawshank Redemption inmates went wild over her, in Mullholland Drive Laura Harring’s character named herself after the actress when she suffers from amnesia, and Madonna decreed that ‘Rita Hayworth gave good face’ in her chart-topping hit Vogue.
Classic musicals including You Were Never Lovlier (1942) and Cover Girl (1944) will screen alongside memorable film noir pictures Gilda (1946) and The Lady from Shanghai (1947), all showing, time and again, why Rita Hayworth remains such an iconic star.

Walt Disney Co.'s ABC is looking to become the first broadcast network to go live on the Internet on a full-time basis.
"Watch ABC" will debut this fall and allow viewers to watch the network from mobile devices and tablets when they are away from home. Watch ABC will basically be a live stream of the network's feed as well as local programming such as news.
There are some catches. The service is only available to people who already have a pay-TV provider. Also, it will initially not be available in every market because ABC needs to reach distribution agreements for Watch ABC with all its local affiliates.
The first two markets to have Watch ABC will be New York and Philadelphia starting May 14, where ABC owns the stations. Then ABC will roll the service out to other markets where it owns local TV stations including KABC-TV Los Angeles.
Also partnering with the network on the service is Hearst Corp., which owns several major market ABC affiliates including outlets in Boston and Pittsburgh.
“Watch ABC is a game-changing innovation for the broadcast television industry," said Anne Sweeney, co-chair of Disney Media Networks and president of Disney/ABC Television Group. "This announcement represents a defining moment in technology and distribution, as well as for our advertising and affiliate partners, as we ensure that our high-quality content is available to viewers on a variety of devices."
The "Watch ABC" effort represents a dramatic shift in the way networks view the Web. While much of the TV industry has been focused on putting content online, it has mostly used the platform for video on demand, not live TV.

The sentence "It's not easy being the pope's son" is one rarely used in modern times. And yet the case remains: It's a challenge.
Take, for example, Cesare Borgia (Francois Arnaud) -- young, good-looking, charismatic, just looking for a little bit of love (from his sister), respect (from his weakened pop, the pope) and power (from an army that tends to be fairly fickle). It's enough to drive a man to kill his reckless brother.
At least that's how things have shaped up on "The Borgias," airing Sundays on Showtime.

This week on Once Upon a Time, with Tamara and Greg set to “blow Storybrooke off the map,” a most unlikely hero stepped forward to declare that the needs of the many outweighed the needs of the few (or the one). But as the season drew to a close, one additional twist found our heroes setting course for an altogether different fate.

The social-media savvy actor said Facebook owes him money for the success of his profile page.
Vin Diesel has more than 41 million likes on his official Facebook page, which he uses to connect with his fans and share personal photos and videos of his adventures. On Valentine' Day this year, for example, the 45-year-old actor posted a video of himself covering Rihanna's song, "Stay," which was shared more than 33,000 times.
Facebook "owes me billions of dollars," Diesel said in a recent Q&A with Entertainment Weekly.
While he may not have invented the social networking site, Diesel said he became the "No. 1 page in the world" by discovering how to communicate personally to followers.
So, when I had started my page, the only person that had a million fans was Barack Obama. Because it was first-quarter 2009, and he’d just got elected as President, because of social media. So, when I started talking to the fans, I became the No. 1 page in the world. Over Coca-Cola, over huge companies. And it was only because I said: “Hi, guys, I love you.”
He once explained his online success to Facebook execs.
Facebook used to ask me to come up to their office to explain what the f*** I was doing, and why I had so many fans. What was unique was: I never let anyone do a post, I never let anyone post for me in the last four years. My audience knows me so well on the page that if my producing partner’s in the room when I post, they’ll know somebody was around me. That’s kind of cool, that’s how sophisticated they are. Facebook really owes me billions of dollars. But whatever. [Laughs]
The star of the massively successful "Fast and the Furious" series also said that his profile page became so popular because he spoke to his fans in the "realest of ways."
When I jumped on that page in April 2009, I started talking to people. In the realest ways. Imagine if you could’ve been a Facebook friend to Marlon Brando, or whoever your role models are. Imagine, if you were able to Facebook Elvis, and talk to him, and hear from him without the Hollywood of it all. That was the "Fast & Furious" experience.
Diesel attributed the success of his Facebook page to his ability to help projects, like "Fast & Furious" sequels, get made. He even speculated that classic films like "Rebel Without A Cause" and "Gone With the Wind" could have had sequels if Marlon Brando and Clark Gable had Facebook pages.
"Fast & Furious 6" opens May 24.
R&B singer BOBBY V's personal life has been thrust into the spotlight amid reports suggesting he features in a new sex tape.
The Slow Down hitmaker, formerly known as Bobby Valentino, allegedly filmed himself having sex in a hotel room with an unidentified video vixen - and now the footage is up for grabs.
Editors at Tmz.com, who have viewed the X-rated tape, claim the film is currently being shopped to the highest bidder by a mystery seller.
The star, real name Robert Wilson, isn't the first celebrity to have his bedroom antics exposed - fellow singer Ray J famously had sex with Kim Kardashian on tape, while Pamela Anderson and Paris Hilton have also experienced similar scandals.
