Kristen Wiig Joins 'Anchorman' Sequel

The "Bridesmaids" star signs up for the long-awaited second installment of the adventures of Ron Burgundy.

Another mega star Saturday Night Live alumni has joined the cast of Anchorman: The Legend Continues.

Kristen Wiig has officially signed on to play a part in the sequel to the hit 2004 comedy, director Adam McKay announced on his Facebook page late Monday night. She joins a cast led by Will Ferrell, who plays the oblivious news anchor Ron Burgundy, and supported by Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd, Steve Carrell and Dave Koechner.

The film, which was announced last March, is due out from Paramount on December 20.

Wiig has long been included in the comedy universe of which Anchorman producer Judd Apatow is the center; he produced her 2011 breakout hit Bridesmaids, which earned her an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay, and she appeared in his 2007 directorial effort, Knocked Up. A pairing with Ferrell produced a memorable presentation at last month's Golden Globes, perhaps hinting at what is to come.

She will soon appear in the dramedy Girl Most Likely, which she wrote, as well as Ben Stiller's Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Liza Johnson's drama Hateship, Friendship and Craig Johnson's dramedy The Skeleton Twins.

What Happened To the Female Rock Vocalist Grammy?

Though it should've been implemented since at least Janis Joplin's first solo record (1969), for whatever reasons, Best Female Rock Vocal Performance didn't make the cut as an official Grammy category until 1980. And though solo female artists continue to release great rock records every year, The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) stopped with the category after 2004.

Ricki Lake Show cancelled, now Kris Jenner's time to shine

20th / Fox pulls the plug on Ricki's talk show, following last week's announcement of Kris Jenner's new talk show.

Twentieth Television pulls the plug on the syndicated talker, which launched in September.

As previously reported last week, 20th / Fox are planning a daytime talk show "Kris" for Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner. The one-hour show will be televised this summer by another unit of News Corporation, the Fox-owned television stations in cities like New York and Los Angeles.

Lake, who made her return to talk television after a nine-year absence, was never able to attract enough of the adult female audience she was targeted to serve. When Twentieth Television first announced plans for the show it described Lake as “America’s girlfriend.”

Researchers discover the real cause of blindness for Laura Ingalls Wilder's sister Mary

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Think you know everything about Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House on the Prairie series?

Think again.

Readers of the beloved series will remember how Wilder's older sister Mary went blind as a result of scarlet fever. But a new study published in Pediatrics, the Official Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, has revealed the cause of Mary's blindness was actually meningoencephalitis – a disease similar to meningitis.

Over the course of 10 years, Dr. Beth Tarini and a team of researchers studied papers and letters written by Wilder, newspaper articles about Mary's illness and data on blindness and infectious disease in the late 19th century, CNN reports.

Tarini discovered that in Pioneer Girl, Wilder's unpublished memoir, there is no reference to Mary contracting scarlet fever before going blind. "She never says scarlet fever. She never says rash," Tarini told CNN.

Then Tarini unveiled what would lead her to discover a different diagnosis. In a letter Wilder wrote to her daughter, Rose, she referenced Mary suffering from "some sort of spinal sickness." The letter goes on to mention that Mary was told by specialist in Chicago that the "nerves of her eyes were paralyzed and there was no hope."

But why would Wilder write that her sister suffered from scarlet fever? Researchers think perhaps Wilder and her editors felt the illness would be more relatable to her readers.

One Direction and the rise of Gay Acting Straight Men

An inside look at One Direction, Homo-eroticism, and Testicle Slapping.

If ever there was a pop group perfectly engineered to fuel the fantasy lives of adolescent girls (and a subset of grown woman and gay men), it’s One Direction. The Simon Cowell-managed and -manufactured fivesome are equal in looks and charm (if not necessarily in talent) and sing about parties, kissing, and girls who don’t know they’re beautiful, in songs tailor-made for the Twilight generation.

But One Direction differ from the all-male singing groups that came before them in other, less superficial, ways as well. Take the video for their latest ditty, Kiss You, in which Harry Styles, riding on a motorcycle behind Zayn Malik, reaches forward to cheekily tweak his band mate’s nipples.

Or their previous hit, Live While We're Young, in which the boys wrestle, hug, and play with giant inflatable banana. Not to mention the countless TV appearances, interviews and live concerts in which the band have groped or mock-kissed each other for the cameras.

Lindsey Vonn Airlifted to Hospital After Skiing Accident

Olympic gold medal skier Lindsey Vonn was airlifted to a hospital in Austria today after a frightening crash during the Alpine World Championships in Schladming.

Vonn lost her balance after landing awkwardly from a jump ... losing her ski and skidding into a gate. Doctors evaluated Vonn for more than ten minutes on the slope before she was loaded on to a helicopter and flown to a nearby hospital.

According to reports, the doctor who examined Vonn says he believes she suffered a tibial plateau fracture -- also known as a break in the shinbone.

Hey Róisín Murphy fans.. there's got to be a few, no?

In certain circles, Roisin Murphy is an icon. The Irish vocalist and former Moloko frontwoman has maintained a lively solo career since her original outfit broke up, and in the past few years, she's appeared in seemingly unrelated places by collaborating with the likes of Crookers, David Morales, and Toddla T. Now, her latest unexpected venture is a silky, disco-leaning EP for Munich's Permanent Vacation imprint.

Robert De Niro Cries on Katie

Robert De Niro became unusually emotional during an interview with Katie Couric Monday.

The typically taciturn actor, appearing with "Silver Linings Playbook" co-star Bradley Cooper and director David O. Russell, sat back as the other two men discussed the bipolar and mood disorders that challenged them both on set and off set. Russell's son suffers from bipolar disorder, an experience that the director has said inspired him to make the movie in the first place.

De Niro didn't say much in the interview. But when asked about how he related to the movie, the 69-year-old Oscar winner -- who has four sons of his own -- had to start and stop. "I don't like to get emotional, but I know exactly what [Russell] goes through," De Niro said, voice cracking. He appeared to be holding back tears.

Russell confirmed that De Niro had related deeply to the movie, telling Couric that he had witnessed a strong visceral reaction from the actor after reading the script. "I thought he was having hay fever, then I realized he was having an emotional reaction and I sat there and watched Robert De Niro cry for 10 minutes and I said, 'Wow he's really connecting with this material and this would be beautiful thing if it could work out, because I think his heart would be there' and it is there."

Russell Brand Talks Katy Perry-John Mayer Dating: "You Have to Let Go"

Attention, Katy Perry! Or, on second thought, cover your ears, Katy Perry!

Sure, no one wants relationship advice on their current paramour from their ex-husband, but when it comes to the romantic reputation of John Mayer, Russell Brand knows of what he speaks.

In fact, Brand may be the only celebrity to rival Mayer in terms of the sheer amount of famous female companionship he's been keeping.

So when Howard Stern asked the comedian his thoughts on his ex-wife's new boyfriend, of course he was going to have something to say.

"Worse or better, depending on how you view it," Russell quickly intervened. When Stern then said, "He's a better womanizer, then," Brand was forced to defend his well-documented lascivious ways.

"Hold on, I resent that! I'm world class!"

Returning to the topic of Katy and John, Russell opted for diplomacy, while still making his feelings known.

"You have to let go of the instinct to protect someone once you divorce them," he said.

Taking that as his cue (not that he needed one) to throw tact to the wind, Stern then launched into Russell's ill-fated marriage, telling him, "I knew you'd never stay married."

'The Philosophers' Trailer

At an international school in Jakarta, a brilliant but mysterious philosophy teacher challenges his class of twenty graduating seniors to undertake one final thought experiment in order to complete the requirements for graduation. The experiment is to be the most extreme they have ever had to face. Using the power of logic alone, the students must choose which of them would be worthy of a place in an underground shelter built to withstand a fast-approaching nuclear apocalypse. The shelter only has space for ten people, which means certain death for those that are not chosen.

The real-life world of the classroom dramatically segues into the imaginary yet all too real world of the nuclear bunker and the approaching atomic catastrophe. Forced to make impossible decisions, the twenty young students enter an explosive and highly stylised world in which the survival instinct reigns supreme. Murder, deceit, sex and betrayal become the norm as the students strive to survive the impossible scenario. In doing so, they take the audience on an exhilarating journey across multiple realities, each one ever more intense than the last.

Princess Bride: Over-the-Top Disney Wedding a Viral Hit

Many brides want to be princesses on their big day, but one young woman actually became one: Ariel, the little mermaid.

Aspiring actress Jamie Chandler, 26, loves Disney so much that her entire wedding was devoted to the studio's iconic fairytales, going so far as to embody her favorite redheaded character, complete with a stuffed Flounder bearing witness. It's an unconventional fandom, one that brought her together with husband Christopher, 27, also an avid supporter of the Magic Kingdom.

"We both share a mutual love for the lightheartedness that Disney embodies," Jamie Chandler told TODAY.com. "Disney was a large part of both of our lives while growing up, and it is something that we both associate with family."

Photos of the Chandlers' fall 2011 wedding, which were recently published online, went viral, with commenters calling it everything from "awesomely creative" to "crazy" to bemoaning "those poor unfortunate souls."

But for Jamie and Christopher, it was simply an obvious choice for the wedding – the O'Fallon, Missouri couple both grew up singing along to the animated musicals and regularly visiting Disney World, a tradition that extended into adulthood and ultimately into marriage. In 2009, Christopher got down on one knee at Disney World and presented Jamie with a glass slipper, which held an engagement ring.

Courteney Cox to guest star on "Go On"!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Monica and Chandler are reuniting … sort of.

NBC's freshman comedy Go On is staging its first on-screen Friends reunion when Courteney Cox checks in for an episode of the Matthew Perry comedy, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.

Cox will join Perry, aka her former on-screen husband Chandler Bing on Friends, for an episode set to air in April. Cox play a character who meets Anne, who then tries to set her up with Perry's Ryan. It marks the duo's first small-screen reunion since the long-running comedy ended its 10-season run in 2004.

For Cox, who's currently starring on TBS' Cougar Town, the Go On guest stint also marks a Friends reunion with former executive producer Scott Silveri, with whom she worked on the series from 1996 through its final season.

This marks the latest Friends reunion for Cox, who has also guest starred on Lisa Kudrow's Showtime adaptation Web Therapy (David Schwimmer has appeared as well). Kudrow, meanwhile, also appeared on an episode of Cougar Town during the comedy's run on ABC, as did Jennifer Aniston, the latter of whom also guest starred on Cox's FX comedy, Dirt. (Schwimmer, meanwhile, directed two episodes of Friends spinoff Joey starring Matt LeBlanc.)

'Saved by the Bell' reunion: Mr. Belding Surprises Kelly on TODAY Show - she's not exactly thrilled

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The stars of the ’80s and ’90s are usually happy to play along when talk show hosts insist on referencing their beloved, long-dead projects. But sometimes, those stars just don’t feel like dwelling on the past.

Take, for example, Saved by the Bell star Tiffani Thiessen, who was unpleasantly surprised this morning when her Today show appearance was interrupted by a surprise guest: Dennis Haskins, a.k.a. goofy Mr. Belding. Please note Thiessen’s face, which looks just how you’d look if your high school principal showed up at your birthday party.

In the end, Thiessen’s a perfectly good sport about the whole thing — which is just what we’d expect from amiable Kelly Kapowski. The most popular girl in school knows a thing or two about saving face.

Bruno Mars' Sisters To Star In Reality Series For WE TV

 photo url_zps90658dbb.jpg

Bruno Mars did really well with his affable TV hosting appearance on Saturday Night Live a few months ago, and now WE TV is banking on his sibling’s being just as awesome on television. The network is developing an unscripted reality series following Mars' four sisters: Jaime Kailani, Presley, Tahiti and Tiara.

Apparently, the four Hawaiian ladies want to follow in their brother's footsteps in the music biz. The show will be called The Lylas, a title that is named after the girls’ band and should not be confused with L.Y.L.A.S, the band that later became known as Fifth Harmony during the most recent The X Factor competition. The docuseries will follow the girls as they make the big move from Hawaii to Los Angeles to pursue their dreams. This isn’t as unrealistic as it may seem, as the girls are moving to produce their debut album. They have also already put together a single that’s not half bad. You can check out the song, called “Come Back,” below

Why House of Cards could signal the decline of Cable Television

“House of Cards” may not be the best show on television, but it is in the same league as the best shows, and that makes all the difference. The series, about a scheming Congressman, is basically “The West Wing” meets “Breaking Bad,” with a healthy dose of Shakespeare—particularly, as Ian Crouch wrote, “Richard III.” It’s a typical product of our current golden age of television—dark, expertly directed and acted, and about five times better than the average Hollywood film. “House of Cards” was produced by Netflix, and the New York Times, Wired, and others have written about the company’s panache, especially its decision to release thirteen episodes in one day, all of which could be downloaded and watched by anyone with a computer or an Internet-connected TV. But that misses what makes “House of Cards” a significant moment in media history.

What It's Like To Be Mariska (Flawless, I bet)

As a teenager growing up in Southern California, Mariska Hargitay didn't exactly embrace her curvy figure. "I was a competitive swimmer and a tomboy and I thought my curves got in the way. I rebelled against them," says Hargitay. "But now I love my body. I try to focus on who I am rather than who I'm not." At 49, Hargitay is the star of the long-running detective drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, the founder of the Joyful Heart Foundation, which helps empower abused women, and the mother of three kids (August, 6; Amaya, 2; and Andrew, 1). Incredibly successful yet surprisingly down-to-earth, Hargitay is one of our favorite cover stars and she was happy to answer LHJ readers' questions about gaining body confidence and living a more satisfying life.

You seem to be so together and sure of yourself. What helped you get this way?- Kathy Agate, Banner Elk, North Carolina

MH: I wasn't always confident. I spent most of my 20s having people say no to me. I'd go on auditions and the casting directors would be like: You're not tall enough, you're not pretty enough, you're not blonde enough, your nose is too big, your nose is too small, your skin is too dark, your skin is too light, change your name! There was so much rejection. I didn't work for eight years. But my dad taught me not to give up. He'd hold his forefinger and his thumb about an inch apart and say, "Mariska, it takes about this much more to be a winner." I'd get an audition and he'd say, "How hard are you going to work for it? What are you going to do today to get yourself closer to your goal?" So I did what I could to become the best actor I could be: I read every play, I went to acting class, I took every audition, I pushed myself when I didn't feel like pushing myself. I acted confident even when I wasn't. And slowly, by doing the thing I loved and by getting better at it, I became more confident.

Pink, Redbook Magazine Cover: Singer Recalls Being Told She Wasn't 'Pretty Enough'
by Brittany Galla

How does Pink stay confident? For one, she doesn't concentrate on what haters have to say about her.

Appearing on the March issue of Redbook, the singer recalls being targeted for her looks, and how she rises above it.

"A 'girl like me' is someone who doesn't rest on her looks, who has had people tell me from day one, 'You're never going to get magazine covers because you are not pretty enough.' I'm totally comfortable with that," she says. "I know my strong points: I work hard, I have talent, I'm funny and I'm a good person."

Asked what makes her feel most beautiful, Pink credits the little things in life, like her husband Carey Hart and 2-year-old daughter, Willow Sage.

"Well, I was always considered butch," she says. "Feeling beautiful to me is when I feel good in my leather pants and my husband grabs my ass. Or when I'm sitting on a mat and my daughter runs to me with complete joy. Beautiful has never been my goal. Joy is my goal -- to feel healthy and strong and powerful and useful and engaged and intelligent and in love. It's about joy. And there's such joy now."

Pink has another reason to be smiling -- she's nominated for Best Vocal Album at this year's Grammy Awards, which airs Sunday, Feb. 10 at 8 p.m. ET.

New ‘Legend of Korra’ chibi-style browser game released online

Nickelodeon has added a new browser game based on The Legend of Korra to their website featuring simple but addictive gameplay and an adorable design.

A new Legend of Korra-based flash game has been added to Nick.com. The game, called Korra: Republic City Run, has a relatively simple gameplay and goal; players follow Korra as she runs through Republic City, helping her avoid Equalists while collecting yuans and extra powers. (Cabbage-busting is also included.) Equalists can be jumped over or defeated with blasts of bending – watch out for the marginally-grisly effects of firebending – and also have the power to electrocute Korra with their gloves. Korra can withstand three electrocutions, after which the game ends. Players are judged on distance traveled, and can use their yuans to “purchase” extra powers outside of the game, including Naga and sky-bison additions.

“Republic City Run” is neither complex or plot-based, but its play is just addictive enough to keep things fun. What makes the game more special is its aesthetic and design, which are produced in the exaggerated, ultra-cute Japanese chibi style. Chibi-Korra (previously seen in Nick.com’s Super Mini Puzzle Heroes game) is pint-sized but perfectly detailed, and it’s pretty endearing to see our fierce and physically-fit Avatar chugging along on chubby little legs. The Equalists also benefit from the chibi design, and even their bug-eyed masks look cute in this style.

First Thoughts: Depeche Mode - Delta Machine

Talking to Clash last summer about his project with Soulsavers, Depeche Mode's Dave Gahan revealed that he wanted the new Mode album to have "more of a rawness about it" compared to anything the band had recorded previously. "Just because it's another electronic record doesn't mean it shouldn't have a certain edge to it," he continued. "What's exciting with the Depeche record is that we're definitely going down that road. We've got a lot more of a bluesy influence to it, and we're trying to retain that more in the recording and not get too over-fussed about details."

Eva Mendes joins Ryan Gosling's directorial debut, tumblr calls the crisis team

After pairing up as colleagues in the upcoming "The Place Beyond The Pines," and off screen as the most enviable couple in Hollywood, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are taking their relationship to the next level. And don't worry ladies, we're not talking marriage.

Mendes has (inevitably) joined Gosling's directorial debut, "How To Catch A Monster." And if there's any way to surely test any union, it's working together. Good luck, Mendling. Penned by Gosling, the cryptic logline reveals the story to be centering on Billy, a single mother of two, who is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery, if their family is to survive. Mendes joins Christina Hendricks, Ben Mendelsohn (another 'Pines' actor) and the also newly cast Rob Zabrecky on the picture, and she'll play Cat, who takes a central role at something called Big Bad Wolf Club, which we presume is the fetish club that has been hinted at earlier.

Production on the movie gets underway this spring, and after working with folks like Terrence Malick, George Clooney, Nicolas Winding Refn, Derek Cianfrance and more, we're of course eager to see what Gosling puts together with his first venture behind the camera.

Aretha hat!

Elementary: Jon Michael Hill On Marcus Bell, Jonny Lee Miller As Sherlock, And Lucy Liu As Watson.

With Benedict Cumberbatch already playing Holmes in the modern British drama Sherlock, and Robert Downey Jr receiving critical acclaim for his starring role in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes action films, it was no small feat for Miller to find his own interpretation of the famous sleuth.

"I was taken by how gritty Jonny, as the choice for Sherlock, was; he's great," Jon Michael Hill told The Guide.

"His workload is really incredible; I've never seen anything like it. He not only manages to get it all memorised but he brings something unique and specific. He's also just a very funny guy. He's a lot of fun to work with."
