Sugar, spice, and everything nice: re-designed Powerpuff Girls to return on Cartoon Network

We've got good news and bad news. The Cartoon Network has just announced that everyone's favorite bug-eyed crime fighters, the Powerpuff Girls will return to television. But sadly the animated superhero shows Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated Series, will not.

Earlier today Cartoon Network released their new roster of shows, Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated Series were absent. Newsarama got the double confirmation that both series end with their current seasons. Sad.

On a better note, the Powerpuff Girls WILL be returning in a whole new CG-animated special. Here's the run-down from the press release:

The Powerpuff Girls Special: "Sugar, Spice and Everything Nice...plus a dash of mysterious Chemical X" were the essential ingredients that created Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup-also known as The Powerpuff Girls. This groundbreaking and Emmy®-winning series, created by Craig McCracken, ran on Cartoon Network from 1998-2005 and will soar again as a brand-new, redesigned and re-imagined CG special coming in 2013 where the trio of pint-sized super heroines will be called upon to rescue not just the city of Townsville, but the USA and the world! Featuring an original song "I Wish I Was A Powerpuff Girl" performed by Beatles legend Ringo Starr, who also portrays Townsville's most famous flamboyant mathematician, "Fibonacci Sequins," this all-new original special comes from a powerhouse creative team featuring animation talent from around the globe including acclaimed director Dave Smith and award-winning art director Kevin Dart and is produced by Cartoon Network Studios in association with UK's Passion Pictures. The special also features the original voice cast reprising their iconic roles and will premiere later this year.

Why Miranda should write a fourth series...

Miranda's long-awaited third series – warmly greeted by critics and telly fans alike – has been wonderfully, magnificently laugh-out-loud funny. But with Miranda Hart so in demand, and there being no official word from the BBC, rumour has it this might be the last we see of the sitcom...

But fans needn't despair just yet. Miranda recently tweeted co-star Tom Ellis (better known as love interest Gary), who's openly discussed the possibilty of series three being the last, saying: "Mr Ellis is not necessarily right that there will be no more show. @tomellis17 are you trying to put me out of work?!"

So there is still hope. And in case she's in need of a little persuasion, here are five reasons I think Miranda needs a fourth series...

Danny Boyle's Trance - James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson, Vincent Cassel - gets US release date & poster

Fox Searchlight Pictures has revealed the new poster for Danny Boyle' Trance and as announced that the thriller, starring James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson and Vincent Cassell, will hit limited theaters on April 5.

In Trance, fine art auctioneer Simon (McAvoy), in league with a gang led by underworld boss Franck (Cassel), plots the audacious theft of a masterpiece by Goya from a major public auction.
When Simon double-crosses the gang during the robbery, Franck retaliates violently and knocks him unconscious.

In the aftermath of the heist, Simon sticks stubbornly - and perhaps shrewdly - to his claim that the violent trauma has left him with no memory of where he stashed the artwork.

Unable to coerce the painting's location from Simon, Franck and his associates reluctantly join forces with a charismatic hypnotherapist (Dawson) in a bid to get him to talk. But as they journey deeper into Simon's jumbled psyche the boundaries between reality and hypnotic suggestion begin to blur and the stakes rise faster and far more dangerously than any of the players could have anticipated.

Are you watching "The Most Popular Girls In School"?

“The Most Popular Girls In School” is a Youtube web series about the gross, dark, weird side of high school.

Using Dollar Store “Barbies” and stop motion animation, the show centers around a new girl at Overland Park High School, Deandra, and how she finds herself in the middle of a feud between the Van Buren sisters and head cheerleader MacKenzie Zales. It’s like a crude, sick version of ‘Daria’ or ‘Mean Girls’ or ‘Gossip Girl.’ I don’t know if they’re improvising or if the scripts are written but it’s so pitch perfect and hilarious I wouldn’t be surprised by either.

“The Most Popular Girls In School” started on Youtube in 2011, but has since gained a following on Tumblr this year. Start watching it below! Season two is coming soon!

CW Picks Up "The Tomorrow People" and "Blink"

The CW has ordered a pilot for a current adaptation of "The Tomorrow People," a beloved '70s British series about humans with supernatural abilities. Powers like telepathy, telekinesis, teleportation, and other interesting tele-things emerge in teenagers, complicating their lives and relationships. Presented as the next stage of human evolution, the only thing these teenagers can't do is intentionally kill other people.

The new adaptation has quite a pedigree, as it's executive produced by Greg Berlanti ("Arrow," "Political Animals") and Julie Plec ("The Vampire Diaries," "Kyle XY"). The pilot was written by Phil Klemmer ("Chuck").

In other C-dub news, the network also picked up hour-long family dramedy pilot "Blink." It's about a man who gets into a car accident and enters a vegetative state where he can still see and hear his family around him -- but can't actually interact with them. (We're assured that it's cheerier than it sounds.) The pilot was written by Vera Herbert, best known for her work on MTV's "Awkward."

Thoughts? Oh I was trying to find something on the "Tomorrow People" since I don't really know about it and found this. ONTDers who know about this show kindly share your thoughts and feelings about this remake.

New MGMT Album Tentatively Due in June, Influenced by Aphex Twin

The new issue of Rolling Stone features an interview with MGMT, who are readying the follow-up to 2010's bizarre gear-shift Congratulations. Rolling Stone says that the album is tentatively scheduled for release in June, following nearly a year of work at producer Dave Fridmann's Tarbox Road Studios in upstate New York.

Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden recorded the whole thing themselves, rather than using a full band, as they did on Congratulations. They told RS that the new songs are influenced by Aphex Twin and house music.

Songs have titles like "Mystery Disease" and "Alien Days", and there's also a cover of "Introspection" by the 60s garage band Faine Jade. Ben Goldwasser says the band are "not trying to make music that everyone understands the first time they hear it... There's no illusion on [Columbia Records'] part that that we're going to turn into a Top 40 band."

Ben Affleck, Emma Stone, and Bradley Cooper on Vanity Fair’s Hollywood Cover

It’s one for the history books—more than 75 different stars were photographed for Vanity Fair’s 19th Hollywood Portfolio, shot by Bruce Weber as the famed photographer’s definitive tribute to the town. Enfolding Tom Hanks and Halle Berry, Amy Adams and Jonah Hill, Selena Gomez and Alan Arkin, Weber’s vision called for a variety of talent—of both the two- and four-legged variety. The cover: Ben Affleck and Bradley Cooper (impishly smiling in a bear suit and a gorilla costume, respectively) flank America’s sweetheart Emma Stone. Oscar winner Affleck cemented his status as Hollywood’s in-demand director with Argo, which received seven Academy Award nominations, including best picture, while Cooper’s Silver Linings Playbook received eight nominations, including Cooper’s first for best actor. Youngest-ever best-actress nominee Quvenzhané Wallis also appears on the cover gatefold along with Olivia Wilde, Kerry Washington, and Eddie Redmayne.

GRAMMAIR was wrong (kinda)

No, Jane Kaczmarek Won’t Be on Breaking Bad

Alas, Malcolm in the Middle fans: Despite a promising tweet, Jane Kaczmarek is not reuniting with her former TV husband Bryan Cranston on an episode of Breaking Bad. She is, however, going to be on a DVD extra for the show, and that's almost as good? Ish? Well, it's still something at least. Last week, Dean Norris, who plays Hank, tweeted this photo of himself, Kaczmarek, and Cranston, and then Sunday night after the SAG awards, Kaczmarek tweeted, "Yes, it's true... I will indeed be on #BreakingBad. Can't wait for you all to see it. Congrats to @BryanCranston for his win tonight." But a source at the show tells us that the Lois and Hal reunion will be for the DVDs only and not one of the final episodes of the series. No word yet on if Cranston roller-skates in this segment, but dear God, we hope he does.

In these exclusive behind-the-scenes photos, Gibson is seen directing Olin as well as castmates including Jeanne Tripplehorn, Matthew Gray Gubler and Shemar Moore.

Gibson, who first stepped behind the camera during his run on the sitcom Dharma & Greg, is the second Criminal Minds cast member (after four-timer Gubler) to direct an episode of the well-watched crime drama.

Cissy Houston: I Wouldn’t Have Liked If Whitney Were Gay, ‘Not At All’

cissy is evil
Last night, on the eve of the release of her Remembering Whitney book, Whitney Houston's mother Cissy sat down with and croaked at Oprah Winfrey for a very special episode of Oprah's Next Chapter. Crankily honest, Cissy discussed the longstanding rumor that Whitney was involved in a romantic relationship with her best friend and one-time executive assistant Robyn Crawford. In the book, Cissy alludes to Whitney "experiment[ing]" with this friendship. She told Oprah that she just didn't like Robyn. "She just spoke too much…disrespectful sometimes," she explained. But the real brutality came as a result of Oprah asking Cissy if it would have bothered her if Whitney were gay.

"Absolutely," said Cissy.

Oprah seemed incredulous and asked, "It would have bothered you?" Cissy confirmed, yes, it would have bothered her if her daughter were gay with an, "Mmmm hmmm."

"You would not have liked that?" asked Oprah again — while clearly unvarnished, that's still a shitty thing to say about your dead daughter. "Not at all," said Cissy.

"Not at all," continued Oprah. "You wouldn't have condoned it, or...?" Nope. Not in a box, not with a fox. Not with a squirrel and certainly not with a girl, Cissy Houston would not have liked that one bit.

Cissy also discussed not being happy about her daughter's relationship with Bobby Brown, or the reality show that her granddaughter Bobbi Kristina Brown, son Gary Houston and daughter-in-law Pat Houston did last year, The Houstons: On Our Own. She said "some of" that series exploited Whitney's death, but claimed that her book didn't because it was written to tell the world about how her daughter really was.

Cissy admitted that Bobbi Kristina "very well could be" headed down the wrong path, and her son Michael admitted that he's the first one who ever got Whitney high on freebased cocaine. Real uplifting hour of television all around.

Ex-Footballer Kwame Harris Not Doing Much For Gays In Sports With This Assault Lawsuit

Here’s an unfortunate one-step-forward, two-steps-back scenario. As gays are serving openly in the military and the Boy Scouts are considering a teeny-tiny advancement toward allowing gay members and leaders in the don’t-ask-don’t-tell vein, gay men in sports are still overwhelmingly remaining in the closet. And now they’ve got the story of former Oakland Raider/ San Francisco 49-er Kwame Harris as an example of what not to follow. According to the San Mateo Daily Journal, Harris is charged with felony domestic violence and is being sued for assault and battery by an ex-boyfriend over an altercation that allegedly began over an argument about soy sauce and stolen underwear. Really.

In August 2012, Harris and Dimitri Geier, who were no longer romantically involved, their lawyers say, were having dinner at a Chinese restaurant before Harris was going to take Geier to the airport. Apparently Geier upset Harris by pouring soy sauce on a plate of rice. Which, again, this is really doing a lot to advance the public’s perception of gay men. The argument continued outside, where Harris reportedly pulled down Geier’s pants and accused him of stealing his underwear (OK, now this is sounding like a fight among sorority girls or something).

Things got more serious (and less ridiculous) when the two men came to blows. Apparently Geier threw the first punch, but Harris (who is 6’7″ and 270 lbs. to Geier’s 6’1″ and 220 lbs., according to the paper) hit his ex so hard that Geier needed surgery and a metal plate to repair his orbital bones. Harris denies the allegations, calling it a case of self-defense. He faces up to seven years in prison if convicted.

B.J. Novak on his 'Mindy Project' arc, being BFF with Mindy Kaling, and returning to 'The Office'

Everyone knows that Kelly Kapoor and Ryan Howard belong together — even if their story seemingly ended when Kelly left Scranton to be with handsome doctor Ravi at the beginning of The Office‘s ninth season.

So it’s a good thing that the actors behind Ryan and Kelly will get one more shot at happiness on The Mindy Project. B.J. Novak — an executive producer of the Fox comedy’s pilot, as well as a consulting producer throughout its first season — is guest-starring tonight and next Tuesday as Jaime, a Latin professor Novak calls “the man version of what [Mindy Kaling's character] dated on The Office.” There’s just one problem with the charismatic classicist: his unusually close friendship with Lucy (Eva Amurri Martino), which makes Mindy feel like “the side character in their romantic comedy.”

To any Mindy Kaling fans, this scenario should sound familiar — Novak and Kaling have enjoyed a close friendship (and an on-again off-again romance) since both were hired to work at The Office in 2004. Here’s what the multihyphenate had to say about exploring his relationship with Mindy for her new comedy — as well as his plans to return to Scranton for The Office‘s imminent series finale.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Was your arc on the show inspired by your friendship with Mindy?
B.J. NOVAK: I don’t know that it’s a direct analogy, but it’s definitely inspired by our relationship. We are pretty inseparable best friends with a lot of chemistry ourselves, and we’re not dating. Whenever we date anyone else, I think there’s a period where the person is very skeptical of our friendship — “Everyone seems to think you two might be a couple, and I don’t mean to get in the way. Are you sure you’re not dating? Are you sure you’re not going to end up dating?” It’s such a common thing to have that platonic best friend that becomes a little weird when you start dating someone.

Nick Cage as Superman

As many of you know, back in the 90s Tim Burton was developing a Superman movie for Warner Bros. called Superman Lives. It was going to star Nicolas Cage and Sandra Bullock. The movie never ended up happening, but a ton of special effects and prep work was done for the film. Over the years we've seen a lot of those things pop up online, but today we bring you a couple of brand new photos of Cage in costume.
It definitely looks a lot better than the first image that we saw of him with that crazy long hair style. You can see more of the Burton's Batman influence in this costume design, and it looks a lot more faithful to the comic book. In all honesty, it doesn't look that bad. It's the first thing I've seen from this movie that doesn't look absolutely ridiculous. What do you think of this costume design?

Whitney's Brother Michael Admits He Introduced Her to Drugs

Cissy Houston recently revealed that she doesn't blame Whitney Houston's ex-husband, bad boy singer Bobby Brown, for getting her daughter hooked on drugs; it turns out Cissy's son Michael first introduced his younger sister Whitney to cocaine.

With Cissy by his side, Michael admitted to Oprah Winfrey that he still carries that guilt with him. "I'm living but I'm not alive," he tells Winfrey on "Oprah's Next Chapter," which aired two days before the release of Cissy's memoir, "Remembering Whitney," today.

"I feel responsible for her. I always have," he says. "I just felt like I should have taken better care of her."

Whitney Houston died in February 2012 at 48. She drowned in a bathtub in her hotel suite in Los Angeles the night before the Grammy Awards. The autopsy revealed that cocaine and heart disease contributed to her death.

After some of Winfrey's patented prodding, Michael confirms that he introduced her to cocaine in the 1980s, before she met Brown, but also claimed that back then, cocaine was acceptable in the entertainment industry. "It was available. It wasn't a bad word like it is now." "Because we didn't have the bodies in the street," Winfrey continued. "So that's the demon you live with?"

"Every day. Every day. It's something I got live with the rest of my life."

Ryan Murphy loves women. Ranking American Horror Story's most feminist moments.

Let's quote one of the best lines from last night's tearjerker of an American Horror Story finale: "Don't you ever let a man tell you who you are or make you feel like you are less than he is." It comes from Jessica Lange, Ryan Murphy's muse and frequent mouthpiece for his feminist thoughts. That's right, feminist thoughts! Ryan Murphy has feminist thoughts! He told reporters last week that season three of American Horror Story would be "all about female power," hardly a surprise since his entire second season was a commentary on female sexual repression, male aggression, and the Catholic Church, which neatly combines the two. Murphy is obsessed with women — our history, our haters, the injustices done to us, our against-the-odds ambition. (He ended the season with a callback to the first episode, when Jude tells Lana: "The loneliness, the heartbreak, the sacrifice you'll face as a woman with a dream on her own ... ") He gets it. And so to celebrate a season well done, here are our favorite female power moments from season two.

Fans of indie musician Jonathan Coulton were incensed last week when an alleged Glee version of “Baby Got Back” surfaced on the internet that seemed to shamelessly rip off Coulton’s distinctive arrangement of the 1992 Sir Mix-A-Lot song. LINDSAY LOHAN I Won't Be In Court ... I'M SICK

Lindsay Lohan s gonna be in a heap of trouble tomorrow ... we've learned she will NOT be in an L.A. court Wednesday as required, because she claims she's sick ... but pictures prove otherwise.

We've learned Lindsay's new lawyer, ark Heller, submitted documents notifying the judge she's too ill to fly.  Heller submitted a note from a Park Avenue doctor who says Lindsay has an upper respiratory infection and can't fly for her own safety as well as the safety of the public.

Heller also submitted an article from the New York Post from January 11, reporting that a flu epidemic has hit the Big Apple.

But take a look at the pictures showing Lindsay on an all-day shopping spree in SoHo Saturday -- the same day the doctor allegedly examined her. She's even smoking ... which doesn't seem like great idea for someone with a respiratory infection.

Interesting ... the judge hasn't even approved Heller -- a New York lawyer -- to appear in a California court on Lindsay's behalf and already there are shenanigans.

As for Lindsay ... she's in trouble.  The judge could issue a warrant for her arrest if the excuse proves bogus.

Shameless, House of Lies, Californication Renewed at Showtime

Following record-setting premieres earlier this month, Showtime is renewing its Sunday night line-up of Shameless, House of Lies and Californication.

"Californication, House of Lies and Shameless possess highly distinctive comedic voices, and given that all three continue to grow their audience season after season – the pick-up decision was easy. I am incredibly excited to see what each of these series has in store for their next seasons," said Showtime entertainment chief David Nevins in a statement announcing the news Tuesday. Production for the new seasons of all three Los Angeles-based series will kick-off later this year, with debuts set for 2014.

The John Wells produced dramedy Shameless is currently up 22 percent in its third season, with 5.4 million viewers, on average, tuning in weekly across multiple platforms. The premium cable network's Don Cheadle-led management consultant ensemble House of Lies is garnering 3.2 weekly viewers, up 10 percent from its first season, while David Duchovny's Californication is set to return for a seventh season as its sixth is currently averaging 3.1 million weekly viewers, up 21 percent from the series’ fifth season.

So happy about Shameless!

Mariah's Ex Admits 'Obsessive' Handling of Career

Mariah Carey's ex husband Tommy Mottola is opening up about mentoring his ex-wife while he was a music executive and reveals that "obsessive" behavior was necessary to make her the star that she is today.

In an interview Tuesday with the Today show's Matt Lauer, Mottola responded to a passage from his new book Hitmaker: The Man and His Music, where -- among many other topics -- he addresses his "controlling" nature while nurturing Carey's musical talent.

"Well I think that anyone that is successful becomes obsessive with what they are trying to succeed at," he tells Lauer. In the book, the former Sony Music Entertainment executive writes, "If it seemed like I was controlling let me apologize..." He then tells Lauer he thinks it "will be the first time" that his wife of five years will get such an apology for his past actions.

Concerning his relationship with the singer -- who is 21 years his junior -- Mottola said he recognized now that it was a mistake at the time. "It was absolutely wrong and inappropriate for me to become involved with Mariah, and I'm not saying this because there was a generation gap, I should [have] listened to the piercing voice of my shrink and maintained my distance."

Mottola was also asked how he thinks Carey will react to the revelations in his book. "I have nothing but the greatest respect for her in the world, she is one of the greatest singers and songwriters that has ever come along. So I feel great about all of the things that she has achieved as a result of all of the work that we did."

On the subject of late pop star Michael Jackson, Mottola said his talent was not overrated. "Well you know, Michael was demanding but he commanded that respect. I looked at him as one of the most talented artists I ever worked with and everyone around him gave him that respect," he said. "The problem was too many people didn't tell him the things that probably would of helped him."

When asked to comment on the controversy over whether Beyonce lip-synced her performance of the National Anthem at President Barack Obama's inauguration, the music industry veteran defended the R&B star. "Technically, when you do those events, it's never the best of circumstances," he said. "Beyonce is one of the greatest singers in the world, so my feeling is anytime she wants to get up and sing, she can sing -- better than anyone."

Lisa Lampenelli discusses reading internet comments and her weight loss surgery

As a comedian who's controversial, I never read comment sections on the Internet. That applies to anything I write, any article written about me or any show review. Because really? What am I gonna gain from it?

If it's positive, I'll get a bigger ego, and if it's negative, it's still not gonna change the way I do comedy or live my life. So it's a no-brainer. They're not worth reading.

But the article I wrote for xoJane is part of a very personal Broadway show I'm writing about my 32-year struggle (from ages 18 to 50) with food and men, so I figured I'd read the comments since it had gotten a retweet from Dr. Drew -- one of my inspirations in addiction counseling -- and some really great tweets from other folks.

I totally figured that people who had food struggles would relate. So I was angered by some of the comments -- in fact, I was infuriated. Like "Incredible Hulk" mad!

Mindy McCready Denies Killing Boyfriend

Country singer Mindy McCready is opening up for the first time about the death of her boyfriend earlier this month and denies that she had anything to do with the shooting.

McCready spoke to Today show contributor Andrea Canning Tuesday about David Wilson, 34, -- her boyfriend and father of son Zayne -- who died of a gunshot wound on January 13. "I have never gone through anything this painful," she revealed in the interview conducted at her home in Little Rock, AR. "He didn't just touch my heart, he touched my soul. He was my soulmate."

Wilson, a record producer, was initially rushed to the hospital after suffering a reported self-inflicted gunshot wound that did not immediately kill him. McCready recalled how she discovered him after the shooting. "I just started screaming, calling 911. I laid down next to him and just pleaded with him not to die." The singer said Wilson "was responding" after the shooting, but only making sounds, not words.

Investigators have said the shooting investigation remains open, but there are currently no known suspects, including McCready. Tests aimed at determining whether the incident was suicide or murder aren't expected for a few more weeks. When asked directly whether she shot Wilson, McCready responded: "Oh, my God, no. He was my life. We were each others' life."

McCready denied rumors that Wilson was having an affair, and explained that the reason the bullet used in the shooting wasn't discovered until the next day was because it was found by her dog, who had it in its mouth.

The country star and Wilson had been together for about two years, and they share a 9-month-old son named Zayne (McCready also has an older son Zander with singer Billy McKnight).

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth: Secretly Married?

Slip of the tongue or simply getting ahead of herself?

Miley Cyrus has been engaged to Liam Hemsworth since May of last year, but in a recent interview, the bride-to-be refers to herself as already wed.

"I'm happy I don't have to date anyone," she said for the new issue of Cosmopolitan. "I was like, 'I'm so happy I'm married, because you guys are cruel!' "

A rep for Hemsworth, however, confirms to PEOPLE that the couple are "definitely NOT married."

Asked in the magazine interview about the sort of wedding she'd have, Cyrus said, "I can't even get coffee without a million paparazzi following me, so I don't know why anyone thinks I'm going to have this huge, extravagant wedding. That is so not who I am."

The magazine reference is the second hint in as many months that Cyrus, 20, and Hemsworth, 23, may have secretly gotten hitched. The pop star Tweeted photos at Christmas in which both she and her man are sporting rings on their left ring fingers. The photos no longer appear on Cyrus's Twitter.

Cyrus's rep has not returned requests for comment.

Bieber Sings About Selena Gomez Breakup

Justin Bieber's ballad about breaking up with Selena Gomez is out. On Monday, Bieber premiered the new song "Nothing Like Us" on Billboard.com. The piano driven love song is part of his latest album, "Believe Acoustic."

"Lately, I been thinkin' 'bout what we had," Bieber sings. "I know it was hard/It was all we knew/Have you been drinking to take all the pain away?/I wish I could give you what you deserve/'Cause nothing can ever, ever replace you/Nothing can make me feel like you do."
The song goes on, "There's no one that I can relate to/And no, we wont find a love that's so true/There's nothing like us/There's nothing like you and me/Together through the storm."

Bieber and Gomez split in November after more than a year together. Speaking about the sentiment behind the song, Bieber told Billboard, "At the end of the day, there's nothing like us, you know? That's just it. It is what it is. People are going to relate to that." When asked if he's heartbroken, Bieber told the magazine, "I'm not in the happiest place that I've ever been. I'm trying to get through what I'm going through….[but] I have my really close friends to cheer me up and keep me going."

Bieber also spoke about his Grammy ambitions and his disappointment at not getting the music industry honor last year for "Believe." "My whole life I've dreamed of winning a Grammy," he said. "At this point, the excitement of that has gone down. I'm more excited to just make great music for my fans. That's just something that if it happens, it happens."

Bieber isn't attending the Grammys this year - he's hosting "Saturday Night Live" on Feb. 9, the night before the awards - but he said he's rooting for Chris Brown because he's a fan of his music.
"His music is really good. That's what they should focus on: the music," he said.

Mann At Work

Thomas Mann may be a relative newcomer in Hollywood, but the actor is a pro at taking direction. When Beautiful Creatures director Richard LaGravenese instructed the actor to “violently make out” with his costar Emmy Rossum, during a particularly heated scene in the film, he didn’t hold back. “We were going at it for 20 or 30 seconds, and suddenly the director shouted ‘Cut!’” Mann recalls. “So I pull back and Emmy’s lipstick is no longer on her lips. I turned to the crew and everyone started cracking up because I literally had lipstick all over my cheeks, nose, and chin.”

If you’re gonna go for, then really go for it—that could well be Mann’s mantra. It took less than three years for Mann to go from smalltime TV actor (on an episode of Disney’s iCarly) to top-billed star (in last summer’s raucous party film Project X). And now the 21-year old is appearing in two of the biggest movies of the season: the mystical love story Beautiful Creatures, based on the best-selling young adult novel, and the action-revenge flick Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.

Anne Hathaway 'Hates' Katie Holmes

After career-changing performances in 'The Dark Knight Rises' and now 'Les Miserables', Anne Hathaway is untouchable. However, if you believe the latest reports there's still one rival who can rile her... Katie Holmes! Who'd have thought?

We've been reading up on Anne Hathaway since she grabbed our attention with her stunning 'Les Miserables' performance, and it turns out she might not be as innocent as she seems.

The 'Princess Diaries' starlet and former Dawson's Creek actress Katie Holmes are said to be fierce rivals, as they're always vying for the same roles. We're baffled!

Hathaway apparently can’t stand Holmes, accusing her of using her marriage to Hollywood star Tom Cruise as a tool to further her career.

“Anne and Katie are longtime rivals,” a source told American tabloid the National Enquirer.

“Anne puts forth a very genial, friendly image, but she has a wicked competitive streak. She doesn’t like Katie because they used to go up for similar roles.

“Anne always felt like Katie used her Hollywood connections through Tom to advance her career. And she constantly makes fun of Katie behind her back, mocking her former marriage and even her appearance.

“Simply put, there is no love lost between Anne and Katie. It all comes down to the fact that Anne doesn’t take Katie seriously as an actress. And Katie’s gotten Anne’s message loud and clear.”

Wow. We don't know what to say... we think Anne's in a league of her own... and find it hard to believe she sees Katie as a threat! Not to mention both ladies seem like two of the nicest stars in Hollywood. We think we'll be filing this story under "unconfirmed rumour"...

'NSync's JC Chasez Sings Lumineers' Ho Hey to USC Sorority

How's this for a sorority showstopper!

‘N Sync's JC Chasez surprised members of USC's Delta Delta Delta by swinging by a swanky sorority dinner and serenading them as they sat slack-jawed at their tables.

Talk about cooking up a memorable meal.

The stunt was apparently orchestrated by the suited-up fellas who also attended the bash.

As the boys stood at the front of the room, some of them holding roses, they suddenly carted out Chasez, who promptly belted out a rendition of "Ho Hey" by the Lumineers, accompanied by an acoustic guitar.

Who needs dessert when you've got this sweet dinnertime bonbon?

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For has found its Ava Lord

The role of femme fatale Ava Lord is vital to SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR. I mean, she is the titular dame, after all. For a long time, Robert Rodriguez had Angelina Jolie lined up for the part, but after years of delays, she moved on to other projects. Still, you need to cast someone in the role who is sultry and sexual but also exudes a sharpness that makes you question your safety. SIN CITY creator Frank Miller described her as “every man’s most glorious dreams come true, she’s also every man’s darkest nightmares.”

Who better to fill those qualifications than the alluring Eva Green? The French actress has cemented those aforementioned qualities in movies such as DARK SHADOWS, THE DREAMERS, CRACKS, and CASINO ROYALE. She was also excellent in the short-lived Starz series CAMELOT as the villain Morgan. Those films also all showcase her damn fine body and show she is not afraid of showing a little nudity.

Miller and Rodriguez issued a statement saying “We’ve been wanting to tell this story for a very long time. Ava Lord is one of the most deadly and fascinating residents of Sin City. From the start, we knew that the actor would need to be able to embody the multifaceted characteristics of this femme fatale and we found that in Eva Green. We are ecstatic that Eva is joining us."

I think this is a great choice that just adds to the already amazing cast that includes Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King, Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dennis Haysbert, Christopher Meloni, Jeremy Piven, Jamie Chung, Ray Liotta, Juno Temple and Julia Garner.

SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR will open October 4, 2013.

Lauren Conrad Covers 'Lucky' March 2013

Lauren Conrad exudes fun on the cover of Lucky magazine’s March 2013 issue, on newsstands February 5.

Here’s what the 26-year-old fashion designer had to share with the mag:

On what her and her boyfriend William Tell do on weekends: “Honestly, he studies all weekend and I’ve been working. I’m renovating a condo, so I’ve been spending my weekends shopping for home stuff at flea markets.”

On being a reality television actress in the fashion industry: “The TV show did not help my reputation very much. It was difficult to be taken seriously. But I think the fact that I went to school to study fashion and worked in the industry helped me. I think it’s a good thing to feel like you have to prove something, because you’re always going to have to work a little bit harder.”

On beauty advice she’s been given: “I can’t remember who told me this, but it was ‘Get your clothes tailored.’ Like most people, I used to wear clothing off the rack. But having them fitted to me makes a really big difference, especially with pieces like a cocktail dress. Little nips and tucks can take 10 pounds off you.”

On having kids one day: “I want kids, but not in the immediate future. All of my friends in their early 30s who just started having kids say, ‘Give it a few years.’

The last movie that made her cry: "This is really cheesy, but it was the Katy Perry movie. I saw it on a plane and started tearing up. The movie touched on her divorce and how she had to go up on stage every night. She’s crying as she goes up, and once the lights go on, she just smiles and pulls it off, and you’re like, wow!"

The reason for his public abtastic shot was to show-off his assets before he was about to "head to [an] ESPN shoot," he said. Lochte entered the limelight this past summer during the 2012 Olympics and the E! network recently signed him to a reality show set to air this April. "Ryan Lochte captured everyone's attention at the Summer Olympics with his athletic prowess and his utterly unique and unaffected approach to life," said E! Entertainment president Suzanne Kolb.

Ashley Judd and Husband Dario Franchitti Split After 11 Years of Marriage

In the world of show business, staying married (to the same person) for a decade is a rare accomplishment. So when actress Ashley Judd and her hubby, race car driver made it to the 10-year anniversary back in 2001, it seemed the couple had gotten their Hollywood ending. Turns out they didn’t.

The two announced their breakup on Tuesday. "We have mutually decided to end our marriage. We'll always be family and continue to cherish our relationship based on the special love, integrity, and respect we have always enjoyed," the couple said via a statement to People magazine.

The daughter of country singer Naomi Judd and half-sister of Wynonna Judd was a staple on the sidelines at her husband’s races, including when Franchitti, 39, won his third Indy 500 in May. “I am so proud of him,” Judd, 44, told TV reporters at the time.

The “Kiss the Girls” star revealed to Redbook in February of 2010 that the couple strengthened their relationship with a daily “appreciation exercise.”

“The point is, we're always so quick to say, 'That hurt my feelings,' so how about being as quick to say, 'I really appreciated it when you turned the TV down so we could hear each other.' Dario and I do an appreciation every day,” Judd said, explaining that the point of the exercise was to ensure that “even when one is cross, to get some gratitude on board.”

The couple married in December 2001 at a castle in Scotland after a two-year engagement.

It's a good thing Lindsay Lohan looks at TMZ ... because we're told our story that she may be arrested has scared the crap out of her, and she's making plans to fly to L.A. tonight.

We broke the story ... Lindsay's new lawyer, Mark Heller, notified the court Tuesday that Lindsay would not appear as ordered on Wednesday because she had an upper respiratory infection.  Problem is, the very day she got a doctor's note saying she was unfit to fly, she was shopping up a storm in SoHo, and we got the pictures to prove it.

So we're told Lindsay and Dina have booked a flight to L.A. that's supposed to take off in an hour.

And get this ... we're also told Lindsay has been "begging " Shawn Holley to take her back as a client.  As we reported, Lindsay sent Shawn a letter firing her and even signed legal docs having Shawn removed as counsel

We're told Lindsay and her peeps are now pleading with Shawn to come back.  Lindsay is crying that she can't stand Heller and wants it the way it was ... problem is, Lindsay already made her bed and as we already reported, Holley is over Lindsay for good.

TMZ could not reach Holley for comment.

Will Lindsay make it to court?  Will the judge grill LiLo like a cheeseburger over her "upper respiratory infection?"  Will Heller get shut down by the judge?

We'll be livestreaming at 8:30 AM PT Wednesday, so stay tuned.

Disney Games To Drop Everything & Copy Skylanders

Epic Mickey 2 was apparently such a dud that it shut down an entire studio. So when Bob Iger said the other day that he would take a closer look at violence in his company's video games, he actually meant...

...one game?

Because it looks like Disney's putting all its gaming eggs in one basket. One large, universe-spanning basket.

A couple of thoughts spring to mind here: One, they wanted a Kingdom Hearts that they didn't have to share profits on. Two, the concept of getting gamers to buy collectible figurines to activate characters is one they couldn't believe Skylanders thought of first, but they will do better because they're Disney goddammit, and people already know all their characters.

So far the character selection leans heavily away from hand-drawn classic characters and towards Pixar movies, Wreck-It Ralph, Captain Jack Sparrow and Jack Skellington - presumably the entire Disney empire will follow as far as the market will bear.

And since Brad Bird apparently isn't keen on sequels, this might be the only way you'll get more Incredibles. Even if it does mean Syndrome riding on Dumbo.

Roger Rabbit Sequel Apparently Dead, Says Zemeckis

By: Russ Burlingame on January 28, 2013

The long-gestating sequel to Robert Zemeckis’s fan-favorite animted/live-action mashup movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit? is apparently no longer going to happen, with the director blaming changes at Walt Disney Studios for the loss of support for the project.

“There’s been a lot of changes at Disney Studio,” Zemeckis told the Empire Magazine podcast (audio embedded below). “I don’t think it’s on the cards, I don’t think it’s going to happen.”

Zemeckis declined to go into more detail, or to share information about the script, as there’s still an outside chance the movie could get made. In the recent past, he had seemed more confident that the project could happen, so it’s difficult to say whether some of that was wishful thinking (either by Zemeckis or the media covering it) or whether something dramatic may have happened behind the scenes to shift his perception.

He did say, though, that if the film turns out to be absolutely dead, he’ll share the premise-along with the 3-D test footage for a Yellow Submarine movie (based on the classic Beatles cartoon, obviously) that has also since been abandoned.
