"Confessions of a Failed Hip Hop Publicist"

It’s not often that we receive an e-mail like the one we got from Sebastien Elkouby today. His words were not of an up-and-coming rapper, buzzing indie band, or anything like that. The longtime hip-hop publicist—that’s him with Afrika Bambaataa above—sent out a blast to everyone he could to share his newly penned letter describing why it’s time for him to give up on his profession.

Elkouby admits that it’ll be difficult to find a new career path at the age of 40, but for him, enough is enough. You can find out why he considers himself a “failed hip-hop publicist” and much more by click below. Props to Jacob at Pigeons & Planes for bringing this to my attention.

Samuel L. Jackson Covers Taylor Swift’s ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’

After his reading of Adam Mansbach’s “Go the F— to Sleep,”  actor Samuel L Jackson has proven he’s an astute (and entertaining) interpreter of pop culture trends. Further proof: Jackson appeared on Capital FM in London and read the lyrics to the Taylor Swift song, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” A listener had called into the radio show and said she wanted to send a clear message to her boyfriend. Listen the audio in this YouTube video.

‘Star Trek’ stars to host Oscars’ Sci-Tech awards

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Scientific and Technical Awards will be co-hosted by two actors quite suited to the task: Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana, respectively Kirk and Uhuru in the upcoming "Star Trek Into Darkness." The ceremony, separate from the main Oscar one, will be held on February 9th in Los Angeles, with Pine and Saldana presenting nine awards to 25 recipients.

Academy President Hawk Koch said "We are thrilled to have Chris and Zoe host the Sci-Tech awards," adding, "Their film experience with the kind of technical advancements these awards honor make them the perfect pair for the job." Not to mention the thrill a group of science and technology types must feel to have "Star Trek" come to them.

The main award Pine and Saldana will be presenting, the John A. Bonner medal for "outstanding service and dedication in upholding the high standards of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences," is being given this year to visual effects supervisor and cinematographer Bill Taylor.

Taylor literally wrote the book on blue- and green-screen compositing, co-authoring chapters on the subject in "American Cinematographer Manual" and "The VES Handbook of Visual Effects" with Petro Vlahos. Taylor's visual effects work can be seen in films as wide-ranging as "Lawless," "Public Enemies," "Milk," and "Bruce Almighty."

Portions of the ceremony, as every year, will be included in the Oscar telecast on February 24th.

Who's Who on the Internet? Who Knows

A dog tapping away at a computer keyboard turns to another dog and says, "On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog."

The cartoon by Peter Steiner, which first appeared in The New Yorker in July 1993, perfectly encapsulates the world we live in today.

How do you trust someone to be who they say they are on the Internet?

The question has bubbled up again after news broke that Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o fell for a "catfish," someone who fakes an identity online to finagle his or her way into a fraudulent romantic relationship.

With all-boy groups One Direction and Emblem3 already on his roster, Simon Cowell is betting big on girl power.

The X Factor boss and former judge L.A. Reid have signed girl group Fifth Harmony to Epic Records via Syco Music, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The group, comprised of Ally Brooke, Camila Cabello, Normani Hamilton, Dinah Jane Hansen and Lauren Jauregui, went from strangers to unofficial sisters during season two of the Fox reality competition, where they each auditioned as individuals and were placed together in a group during boot camp.

'American Idol' premiere ratings down: 'NCIS' scored more viewers

The only real question was: By how much?
Fox’s American Idol returned Wednesday night to its lowest-rated and least-watched regular-season premiere telecast ever (the first season aired during the summer and generally isn’t counted). Idol delivered 17.9 million viewers and a 6.0 adults 18-49 demo rating. That’s down 19 percent from last year’s opener, which was the previous lowest-ever record-holder.
The numbers also mean last night’s Idol premiere will not be the most-watched entertainment show this week — Tuesday’s NCIS had 22.9 million viewers. This is the first time another series was seen by more viewers than Idol during its regular season premiere week.
Fox was braced for worse. Last year Idol was down an unprecedented 24 percent after the network launched The X Factor in the fall. This fall had both X Factor and NBC’s powerful The Voice, so competition show burnout by the time Idol opened seemed likely. Idol still managed to rank as the top-rated singing show premiere this season.

Noooooo! Spielberg's 'Gremlins' movie to receive a reboot?

A Gremlins reboot could be on the horizon.

Warner Bros is said to be negotiating with Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment regarding the rights to the property.

Talks regarding the hit 1984 black comedy/horror and its sequel have been intermittent over the years, but Vulture is reporting that an agreement is looking more likely than ever before.

The reboot is believed to have been held back by the amount of money Spielberg has been asking for the rights, and his demands to be involved in any Gremlins project.

The film and its 1990 sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch were directed by Joe Dante and produced by Spielberg.

They starred Zach Galligan as a young man who comes into possession of a cute but very dangerous pet.

Leave Gremlins alone! 80s' movies were flawless.

Lawd... Sophia Bush and Josh Hutcherson “New Couple”?

Sophia Bush and Josh Hutcherson are a “new couple!” announces a headline from Star.

According to the mag, 20-year-old Hutcherson has “fallen head over heels” for 30-year-old Bush, who split from longtime boyfriend Austin Nichols last year.

The tab says the Hunger Games star recently “whisked her away to Hawaii, where he’s been filming the sequel to the blockbuster hit.”

During the getaway, an employee of a Honolulu grocery store supposedly “spotted them looking loved up,” notes the tabloid.

The alleged spy tattles, “They bought a bottle of liquor, and he had his arm around her. She looked thrilled.”

Wow, it must be love!

Or not.

Gossip Cop checked in with a rep for Bush, who tells us “it’s NOT true” that the pair is dating, adding, “They’ve been friends for years,” and “there was a group of 8 people” on the Hawaii trip.

PS VITA to get price drop, Op is hft

8177618380 312aa40459 z

Sony will cut the price of its PlayStation Vita sometime in 2013, the publisher's UK boss Fergal Gara has told Eurogamer. The executive said the exact timing of the price reduction is "still under discussion."

"We always aim to establish price cuts. So the question is not so much if, but when," Gara said. Though there will not be a PS Vita price cut in 2012, he said Sony will work with its retail partners to "add value" to the portable by way of system-software bundles.

In August, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida said 2012 was "too early" for a PS Vita price cut, confirming that no reduction was planned for the year. The PS Vita launched in February 2012 with a Wi-Fi-only version at $249 and a Wi-Fi/3G model retailing for $299. Sales of the
portable are nearly in line with company expectations, according to Sony CEO Kaz Hirai.

Yoko Ono, Son Among Artists Touring PA Fracking Sites

A group of celebrity activists including Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon and Susan Sarandon are make their way to Pennsylvania for an anti-fracking tour.

Members of "Artists Against Fracking" are taking a closer look at some areas where the controversial practice has been done.

Fracking - which is short for hydraulic fracturing - is a controversial natural gas extraction method.

Opponents like Sean Lennon say it's unsafe and has severe consequences for the environment.

"Not everyone knows how dangerous it is. Basically your drinking water is at stake, there's over 600 toxic chemicals and hydrocarbons that get injected into the ground that leak into the aquifers. And then there's also the question of being released into the atmosphere," Lennon said.

Governor Andrew Cuomo and the Department of Environmental Conservation have until February 27 to finalize new regulations for hydrofracking.

More than 200,000 signatures from those who are against the measure have been sent to Albany.

Marina and the Diamonds: 'Electra Heart was meant to be a side project'

Marina and the Diamonds has revealed that her Electra Heart album was in fact intended to be a side project.

The singer had initially wanted to release her sophomore album under an alias, separate from Marina and the Diamonds, but was discouraged by her management team.

The singer tweeted: "Electra Heart was originally a side project, separate from Marina And The Diamonds.

"I called my manager in April 2011 and said, 'Hello. Can I pretend to be a totally different person?' He said, 'No. You cannot'."

The 'Primadonna' star then joked: "I calmly put the phone down and screamed til eternity."

The singer has previously said that she wanted to write Electra Heart as a pop album and be a popstar, but that she wanted to make sure she didn't alienate fans of her first album The Family Jewels.

Electra Heart debuted at No.1 in both the UK and Irish charts, an improvement on The Family Jewels which peaked  No.5 in the UK chart.

The record also performed well internationally, finding success in Europe and peaking at 30 in the US charts, Marina's best US ranking to date.

The album was preceded by the single 'Primadonna', which has been the singer's highest peaking single in the UK to date, reaching number 11.

It has also been her best performing single internationally, reaching platinum status in both Ireland and New Zealand and reaching number four in the New Zealand charts.

Perhaps now she's relieved that her management convinced her release the Electra Heart album under the Marina and the Diamonds monika, rather than as a side project.

Artist Rob Guillory on Showtime's TV Adaptation of 'Chew': 'It’s shockingly loyal to the comic.'

Rob Guillory Talks CHEW And Showtime's Planned Adaptation

Chew artist Rob Guillory dishes on Chew, says the planned adaptation at Showtime is still in development and that the creators have two actors in mind for the lead roles.

Chew is one of the indie title that you hear a lot of good things about but for whatever reason, you keep putting off that initial purchase. Well, thanks to this latest interview with artist Rob Guillory I may finally quit procrastinating and purchase my first issue. Check out what he has to say about how he got started with writer John Layman and where things are with the Showtime adaptation.

The artist details how his involvement with the series came about.
Guillory: [After detailing his work for manga published Tokyopop] eventually, the Tokyopop thing went south and died. Then a few months later, John Layman started looking for an artist for Chew, which had been rejected numerous times by DC. Turned out that the first guy Layman asked was Brandon Jerwa [who Guillory knew from Tokyopop], who happened to be a good friend of his. And Jerwa referred him to me. And we just sorta clicked. Layman had the first 3 issues scripted when I came onboard, and most of the primary cast. My claim to fame is that I helped make them look weird. That’s changed as the series has progressed. I contribute a lot more, generally just with offbeat food powers.

Whisperings of such a deal first sounded last summer, but Aniston's work for the brand is just getting under way.

USA's 'Suits': A Look into the Power Dynamics

Like Downton, the USA Network legal drama examines power dynamics within a gilded enclave. Like Buffy, it taps the underlying anxiety of its setting. Like both shows, it's very worth watching.

A decade and a half ago, American TV created the best teen drama ever made, based on the absurd premise that Southern California high school must fight off periodic attacks by vampires, werewolves, demons, and praying mantises disguised as MILFS. Buffy the Vampire Slayer succeeded because that central metaphor, though ridiculous, dramatized a deeper truth. For teen-agers, high school really is a life-or-death struggle against monsters.

Tonight marks the winter premiere of the USA Network drama Suits. Like Buffy, Suits draws its power from a literally impossible premise: Its central character, an associate at a high-priced New York law firm, has not actually attended law school or passed the bar. That premise of imposture—with its constant panicky fear of exposure—is a powerful metaphor for the top level of the legal profession in our time.

The big-firm life may is in many ways a cage, but it is a distinctly gilded one. People still in their 20s make six-figure salaries and five-figure bonuses, and give advice to powerful corporations and famous clients. The offices are splendid, the support services (libraries, secretarial staff, etc.) sumptuous. All the firms ask is unremitting toil; those hours of drudgery help block out one all-but-inescapable question: What am I doing here? How did three years of law school transform me from a bright young adult into a deity worth $300 an hour?

Bad Day For Candles - Ozzy Osbourne Injured In Blaze Drama

Ozzy Osbourne required medical attention on Thursday morning (17Jan13) after singeing his hair and injuring his hand while tackling a fire at his home in Beverly Hills.

A candle the rock icon and his manager wife Sharon had left burning through the night exploded in its glass vase and sparked a small blaze in their living room and quick-thinking Ozzy, whose arm had been bandaged up following hand surgery on Wednesday (16Jan13), tried to air the room as Sharon rushed to collect some water, but her efforts to extinguish the oily flames only caused the fire to spread, singeing chunks of the rocker's long locks in the process.

Firefighters were called to the scene and quickly put out the blaze, and Sharon is thankful for their prompt response.

Revealing all about her early morning drama on her U.S. show The Talk on Thursday, she explained, "Everybody is fine. There was only Ozzy, myself and the dogs in the house last night.

"At five o' clock (in the morning), I heard a noise like metal had fallen. I thought it was my housekeeper coming in and she had dropped her keys on the tiles, that's what it sounded like, so I didn't pay any attention. A few minutes later, my eyes are stinging and my throat's closing up, (I thought), 'Something's weird smelling in here'.

"Then my dog started to bark. I go downstairs and the whole living room (was on fire). The candle had burst and the cracking sound was the glass and the candle exploding...

"My husband had an operation on his hand yesterday so he's in a complete cast... He comes down and goes, 'Oh, the fire, the fire!' (and tries to put it out) with his hand in the cast. Then he opens the French doors and I go into the kitchen and throw water on it and it erupted...

"Ozzy's front of his hair from (his ear down is), gone! His eyebrows (are gone)... he's got like, skinned cheeks. We are, like, two idiots, it was like The Three Stooges... Everything you are not meant to do - go to bed with candles alight, open the doors and put water on - we did it all."

The couple got a telling off from the emergency workers and now Sharon has warned other candle lovers to be extra careful.

The reality TV star also used the opportunity to issue a sincere apology to Ozzy and vow never to light another candle in their house ever again.

She said, "They (the firemen) come up, they give us a lecture, and Ozzy's like, 'She's been doing this to me for 32 years! You tell her, you tell her, no more candles!'

"I apologize to my husband because he put himself out. He made his hand worse, it started to bleed, the whole nine yards, and I'm sorry and I love you and I will never light a candle again...

"I want to thank the firemen from Beverly Hills Fire Station because you are magnificent there and I want to say to everyone out there, please, please check your candles before you go to bed."

FX to Split Into Two Networks: FX and FXX

Fox Networks is planning to split its successful FX channel into two networks as part of a larger effort to enlarge its cable footprint.

A new network, tentatively called FXX, would target younger viewers -- millennials -- with a skew towards comedy, according to media executives who have been briefed on the plans.

The network would program some of the original comedy series that now appear on FX, such as The League and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It would also be stocked with appropriate theatrical movies from a stockpile FX has been building in deals with nearly all of the major studios over the past few years.

The plans call for a launch in September with about 75 million subscribers. Many of those subscribers would come from the Fox Soccer channel, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.

After the split, FX would continue to air the edgy dramas such as Sons of Anarchy and Justified that attract young adults and baby boomers. FX Networks, headed by John Landgraf, will also continue to produce the movie channel FXM.

Michael J. Fox throws the shade of all shades at Taylor Swift

Remember at the Golden Globes, when Tina Fey told serial dater Taylor Swift to "stay away from Michael J. Fox's son," Sam? That was a pretty amazing moment. So you can imagine how thrilled we were to relive it with the elder Fox himself last night at a book party for Ann Leary's The Good House. Would Fox approve of a Sam/Taylor (Saylor) love connection? we asked. "No. No ... Just back off," he told us. "I don’t keep up with it all," he said. "But Taylor Swift writes songs about everybody she goes out with, right?" Right! "What a way to build a career." So if Swift showed up to a Fox family dinner (possibly wearing her fox sweater), how would he react? "I wouldn’t even know who she was," he said. But it'd probably dawn on him after the breakup song hit the radio. "Yeah, exactly," he said. "'Sam, You Piece of Shit.' Oh … that was the girl you brought home!"

An "Enlightened" Mike White Wants to Change TV

The HBO show's creator, like its main character, was born anew after a breakdown.

The current cable television landscape is full of hit shows that are sexy and hip and fun: the urban adventuring of “Girls,” the breakneck momentum of “Homeland,” the slinky nostalgia of “Mad Men,” the pageantry of “Game of Thrones.” But HBO’s stunning, under-watched “Enlightened”—about a mid-level executive at a giant corporation who has a spiritual awakening after a workplace meltdown directed at her boss—is like nothing else on TV. It stands out for its stillness, its unglamorousness, but above all, for its conflicted attitude toward its characters and their world. Its protagonist, Amy Jellicoe, is easily the most complicated heroine on cable. Played by Laura Dern, she is terrible in her selfishness, in her social tone-deafness, and in the vanity of her idealism. But there is also a kernel of urgent nobility in her commitment to self-betterment. And this is what makes her so compelling, even while she irks and unsettles. She has seen wickedness, both in herself and in society, and she is bent on exterminating it. She is a Don Quixote of the corporate world—ridiculous, naive, but fundamentally a force for good.

Destiny Child's Michelle Williams Reveals Fight with Depression

With a new single about to drop, a solo album in the works and a starring role in a national tour of a Broadway musical, you'd be hard-pressed to tell that Michelle Williams once had difficulty just getting out of bed.

The singer-actress – one third of Destiny's Child alongside Beyonce and Kelly Rowland – said that in the past few months she has emerged from years of suffering from moderate depression. Her dark cloud lifted thanks to exercise, therapy and positive thinking.

"I've dealt with depression," the 32-year-old said during a break in rehearsals for a new touring production of "Fela!" that kicks off later this month. "I had to choose to get out of bed and do whatever I needed to do to be happy."

Williams says she suffered her first bout of depression at 15 or 16 and has managed to avoid medication. She is speaking out for the first time about her battle to encourage others to seek help.

Jessie Ware + The Roots on 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon'

It’s not too late to fall into love with Jessie Ware if you’re late to the ‘this-chick-is-dope’ party. The British soul singer left her heart on the Late Night With Jimmy Fallon stage as she performed her single “Wildest Moments.” Backed by The Roots she seriously belts out the perfect pitch for each note. The melodies dances off her tongue divinely.

Back in December the soulful singer who has been compared to Sade made her first North American debut at New York City’s The Box where she nailed songs from Devotion, which hits stateside in April. If you missed the greatness of Devotion when it was on Spotify, take a listen to her EP If You’re Never Gonna Move in the meantime. Not that it should take much to convince you Jessie’s the next great act to hail from the UK, but her flawless cover of Brownstone‘s “If You Love Me” should seal the deal. It’s true–we want folks to love her as much as we do. Jessie’s the future.

Beyonce Owns Every Picture Ever Taken of Her

GQ has named Beyoncé Knowles the sexiest woman of the millenium, an assessment with which I have no quibble. But what’s most interesting about the resulting profile of her, written by Amy Wallace, and the interview for which took place on the condition that Wallace consent that it be recorded by Knowles in an inversion of the normal agreements between source and subject, is that it’s all about Beyonce’s experience of being watched, often by herself. There are stories of Beyonce watching DVDs of every performance she’s ever made. There’s mention of the autobiographical documentary she’s making for HBO. And then there’s the intense, almost unnerving, archiving Knowles appears to be doing of even her most private life:

Anytime she wants to remind herself of all that work—or almost anything else that’s ever happened in her life—all she has to do is walk down the hall. There, across from the narrow conference room in which you are interviewing her, is another long, narrow room that contains the official Beyoncé archive, a temperature-controlled digital-storage facility that contains virtually every existing photograph of her, starting with the very first frames taken of Destiny’s Child, the ’90s girl group she once fronted; every interview she’s ever done; every video of every show she’s ever performed; every diary entry she’s ever recorded while looking into the unblinking eye of her laptop.
“Stop pretending that I have it all together,” she tells herself in a particularly revealing video clip, looking straight into the camera. “If I’m scared, be scared, allow it, release it, move on. I think I need to go listen to ‘Make Love to Me’ and make love to my husband.”

Beyoncé’s inner sanctum also contains thousands of hours of private footage, compiled by a “visual director” Beyoncé employs who has shot practically her every waking moment, up to sixteen hours a day, since 2005. In this footage, Beyoncé wears her hair up, down, with bangs, and without. In full makeup and makeup-free, she can be found shaking her famous ass onstage, lounging in her dressing room, singing Coldplay’s “Yellow” to Jay-Z over an intimate dinner, and rolling over sleepy-eyed in bed. This digital database, modeled loosely on NBC’s library, is a work in progress—the labeling, date-stamping, and cross-referencing has been under way for two years, and it’ll be several months before that process is complete. But already, blinking lights signal that the product that is Beyoncé is safe and sound and ready to be summoned— and monetized—at the push of a button.

Forbes' Highest-Grossing Romantic Couples

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, when movie lovers’ thoughts turn to romance films. Older folks might think of putting on Casablanca; Gen X’ers,Say Anything. What does it say about the millennial generation that the most popular love story of their time involves a young lady, a vampire and a werewolf?

That’s why Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson land at the top of our list of Hollywood’s Highest-Grossing Romantic Couples. We looked at the top-grossing romantic movies of the last three years. Twilight was by far the biggest box office winner over that period, earning $1.17 billion.

The fact that we get to track the couple’s off-screen romance along with their on-screen love just adds to the overall romance of the films. The couple is reportedly back together after breaking up over Stewart’s fling with the married director of her film Snow White and the Huntsman.

Pattinson is also a member of the 10th place couple on our list alongside Reese Witherspoon. Their film Water for Elephants earned $59 million in the U.S. in 2011. Those aren’t Twilight numbers, but considering that the movie brought in an extra $58 million internationally and only cost $38 million to make, it was a small hit.

To compile our list, we looked at the top-grossing romantic movies as classified by Box Office Mojo over the past three years and added up each couple’s total U.S.box office. While StewPatz have an advantage because they appeared in three high-grossing movies together during our time frame, there were other actors who also did well.

Like Channing Tatum, who ranks twice on our list. Tatum and Rachel McAdams place second thanks to last year’s hit The Vow. The story of a women who loses some of her memory in a car accident earned $125 million in the U.S. and another $71 million overseas. That means the $30 million film turned a nice profit for Sony‘s ScreenGems division.

Tatum is also part of the sixth-ranked couple on our list with Amanda Seyfried. Their 2010 movie Dear John earned $80 million in the U.S. and another $35 million abroad. That film was based on a Nicholas Sparks book. The author is a Hollywood gold mine of romantic plots. The movie version of his book Safe Haven is the biggest romantic film scheduled to hit theaters this Valentine’s Day.

Two other couples made our list from Nicholas Sparks movies. Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus place eighth with $63 million for The Last Song. The 2010 film was not only a hit with romance fans, it also sparked a real-life love story: Cyrus and Hemsworth, who met on the set, are now engaged to be married.

Ranking ninth just behind Hemsworth and Cyrus are Zac Efron and Taylor Schilling. The couple lit up the screen last year in The Lucky One, also based on a Sparks book — the film grossed $60 million. Efron, best known for playing Troy in the High School Musical movies, played an Iraq war vet looking for a woman whose photo he believed helped save his life. The success of the film should help Efron move beyond his teen heartthrob status.

Surreal Clip from 'Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes'

A clip has landed for Francesca Gregorini's Sundance competition entry "Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes," starring Kaya Scodelario ("Wuthering Heights," "Skins") as a young woman who begins a friendship with a neighbor, Linda (Jessica Biel), who looks uncannily like her late mother.
The dream-like quality of the clip matches the Sundance program notes on the film, which promise that the film "vascillates between surrealism and realism" and that "Emanuel must take a courageous journey to enter her dream and help extract Linda from hers."

This is director Gregorini's first solo helming venture, having previously co-directed 2009's "Tanner Hall" with Tatiana von Furstenberg.

Flo Rida has revealed that he has "seven masterpieces" for his next album.

The rapper explained that he recorded the tracks at Westlake Studios where Michael Jackson used to work, and has drawn inspiration from the late King of Pop for the project. "You know, I actually got a chance to do some recording in the same studio where Michael Jackson did Thriller," Flo Rida told Billboard. "We did some work in there and I came up with like seven masterpieces."

The star went on to admit plans to "take over" 2013 with his new single 'Let it Roll', following a string of global hits in 2012. "Every record I've put out this year has been number one and I look forward to this being number one as well," he said.

However, Flo Rida also teased a move into acting as something he may pursue in 2013 alongside his music career.

"It starts with the music, but I look forward to venturing off and getting into some acting. Traveling the world, doing some touring," he added.

Watch the music video for Flo Rida's new single 'Let it Roll' below:

is james franco gay tho

“Everybody fucking watches porn!” shouts James Franco, a wide smile on his face, after watching two men engage in sadomasochistic sex just ten feet from him. “They just don’t want to talk about it.”

That’s a moment from Franco’s newest film, a Sundance entry that people definitely will want to talk about this week: Titled Interior. Leather Bar., it’s a 60-minute experimental project that finds Franco and co-director Travis Mathews re-creating 40 sexually charged minutes of “lost footage” from William Friedkin’s controversial 1980 gay thriller Cruising. At least that’s the initial plan; once Franco and Mathews are on set, with extras milling around in various forms of undress, it becomes clear that fidelity to the source material is a low priority. Really, the Cruising tie-in is just a pretext for Franco to explore gay sexuality, a theme that recurs so often in his work that rumors continue to be fanned about his own orientation.

Just take a look at Franco’s C.V.: In addition to his most high-profile gay role, playing Sean Penn’s lover in Milk, the 34-year-old has also directed the full-frontal-filled short The Feast of Stephen, filmed a movie about gay Rebel Without a Cause actor Sal Mineo, and played gay poets Allen Ginsberg in Howl and Hart Crane in The Broken Tower, the latter of which Franco directed himself and finds him fellating a prosthetic penis in artfully directed close-up. It’s no wonder that in the trailer for Franco’s upcoming apocalypse comedy This Is the End, where several movie stars play themselves, his co-star Danny McBride cracks, “James Franco didn’t suck any dick last night? Now I know y’all are tripping.”

Here Comes a GLAAD nomination for 'Honey Boo Boo'

Think awards dedicated to excellence in the media only go to artsy movies and TV shows? Think again, Jack. "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," the popular reality program from TLC, recently received a GLAAD Media Award nomination. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation was likely impressed by the show's acceptance of Uncle Poodle's sexuality.

According to its official website, the "GLAAD Media Awards celebrate outstanding representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community and our allies on TV, in film, and in the news. These are the images and stories that bring us closer to equality."

Other shows receiving GLAAD nominations include "Grey's Anatomy," "Glee," "Modern Family," and "The Amazing Race."

While nobody would confuse "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" with "The Sopranos," the show has made an effort to, in GLAAD's words, "reflect a new American landscape where a growing majority accept and value their LGBT family, colleagues, and friends." Honey Boo Boo herself (real name: Alana Thompson) once famously said, "Ain't nothing wrong with being a little gay. Everybody's a little gay."

Honey Boo Boo's Uncle Poodle (real name: Lee Thompson) has played an important role in showing viewers what it's like for a man to live in the South and be gay. Thompson recently revealed that he is HIV-positive. Thompson told Fenuxe, an Atlanta-based magazine, that he was infected by an ex-boyfriend who didn't disclose that he had HIV. "I would have been cool with his HIV status if he had been honest," he said. "I don't have an issue with the disease. I would have known how to protect myself."

Thompson's ex is currently serving a five-year prison sentence because of the duplicity.

Lance Armstrong on Oprah - Live Streaming Post

Lance Armstrong's long-awaited interview with Oprah Winfrey will be broadcast in two parts because of its length.

The chat show host told CBS' This Morning programme that she was "satisfied" by the answers he had given her.

She revealed that he had confessed, but did "not come clean in the manner I had expected."

Whatever form the confession takes, it will be a landmark moment in the world of sport, because as this compilation shows, throughout his career, Lance Armstrong repeatedly – and strenuously – denied ever having taken drugs.

The interview will air Thursday and Friday nights at 9 p.m. EST/PST on OWN.

Reasons Selena Gomez is having plenty of fun without Justin Bieber

Selena Gomez was all over the Golden Globes party circuit last Sunday -- at CAA's bash, at The Weinstein co. after party, at the InStyle event. And if you'd been the one to score an invite, nothing would have kept YOU from having the best-est time anyone could imagineer. Just think of the stars! The free Moet! The shrimp buffets, probably! There's a reason why the Golden Globes are known as the show where someone is most likely to get locked in a ladies room. (Hi, Christine Lahti!) And that reason is fun.

Enough fun that you wouldn't need to drag Justin Bieber along for entertainment, I don't care how many copies of Believe you bought. And please note, for the bajillionth time, that Bieber and Gomez are "over." Gomez was even overheard talking about the split during one Golden Globes party. (Us Weekly was the eavesdropper in question; they heard her whispering "it was awful," while talking about her and Bieber's last reported break-up in Mexico.)

But all that awfulness is behind her now, like so many episodes of Wizards of Waverly Place. And as such, let us count the ways in which Gomez is doing just fine without Bieber.

Ten Of The Best Quentin Tarantino Movie Soundtrack Songs

Let's forget the controversy for a minute. In Django Unchained, Quentin Tarantino has managed to assemble another top draw soundtrack; established names like Ennio Morricone are including, as past and present soul and R&B stars like James Brown and Rick Ross, right up to modern contemporaries like John Legend - even Tupac makes an appearance. But how does it compare with some of the great sound tracks that the director has been known for over the past three decades; in fact, what are the best songs to appear in Tarantino films? We've had a bit of a think and have put together ten songs that we don't think any self-respecting fan of the man could leave out.

The project was stalled in early development for a while, before Ratner skipped out on directing the Conan the Barbarian reboot and picked up this mythological ancient world blockbuster instead.

Youtube's top fitness guru, Cassey Ho, goes in on Honey Boo Boo and her family

Hey guys!

I am loving the new HIITilates series and looks like you are too!! I am excited for your enthusiasm as I build out this new format! I always knew you guys liked your cardio so I had to figure out a way to make it fun and exciting and excruciating without counting (boring) or timers (boring). The new moves challenge me just as much as they challenge you – so great job for keeping up!!!

I am between the Bay Area and Palm Springs the next couple days! This Sunday I will be teaching a group of young kids how to have fun while staying active at President Clinton’s Health Matters event. I don’t think I will get to see him though! Boo. But oh well, maybe one of these days I can meet Michelle Obama and work with her on educating our youth on nutrition and exercise. I honestly think that if we get em young and get em thinking about food the right way from the beginning, we can prevent obesity, hospital visits, and all types of illnesses. I GENUINELY believe that food is your medicine. Preventative medicine is the best kind you can be prescribed :)

Wrangler Releases ‘Spa’ Jeans That Claim To Moisturize And Reduce Cellulite

It seems like you can't open a women's magazine in this country without having some skincare expert tell you how important it is to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Now a new line of jeans from Wrangler claim to be the end to all your skincare woes.

On January 28, through popular British e-tailer ASOS, Wrangler will release a special line called "Spa Denim" with built-in moisturizing properties and one pair with an anti-cellulite treatment.

We're just not so sure that these "cure-all" jeans are any different from other quick-results products like shape up shoes, or the hundred-dollar cellulite creams that we shamelessly keep buying and are constantly disappointed by. How much money have you spent on creams that never work?

The brand will offer three varying styles in differing waist cuts of low, medium and regular. The Aloe Vera style claims to soothe sensitive skin, with a cooling sensation. The Olive Extract style is a straightforward moisturizing treatment.

Michelle Obama Debuts Bangin’ New ‘Do on Her Birthday

New birthday, new presidential term … new ‘do for First Lady Michelle Obama!

The POTUS’ wife debuted the look – straight, shoulder-length hair with bangs and some face-framing fringe – on Thursday (her 49th birthday) in a photo she posted on her new Twitter account. Mrs. Obama, who normally sports a sleek style with a side part or a swept back look, also donned a red-and-pink Zac Posen creation in the shot, a candid of her chatting with Inaugural citizen co-chair David Hall about Monday’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

And the people have spoken! The majority of those who replied to @FLOTUS on Twitter voted that the new look was quite an improvement with more than 300 retweets and favorites. “Happy Birthday, and great hair,” tweeted ‏@lea_artz.

Monday, of course, will also be busy for the First Family since it’s the inauguration of President Barack Obama. Nearly 800,000 people are expected to descend upon Washington, D.C.’s National Mall to watch him be sworn in for his second term. Also on hand for the festivities will be Beyonce, who will sing the national anthem, and Kelly Clarkson, who will serenade the president and first lady with "My Country 'Tis of Thee.”

Wonder what will Michelle will wear to the Inauguration to go with those new bangs?

Megan Fox Isn't Crazy. So Why Do Guys Wish She Was?

Megan Fox can teach us a lot about the core differences between men and women.

When a male sex symbol espouses his belief in aliens and religious extremism, he's permenantly deleted from People's Sexiest Man Alive files. When a female sex symbol does the same she's hailed by Esquire as the "last American bombshell. "

After Fox's interview for the men's magazine's February issue went viral this week, she was labeled by and large "crazy" due to a series of bizarre comments she makes about spirituality, mythical creatures and doomsday.

Score one for Megan. She's smarter than she seems. If your job is to play the world's hottest woman, being labeled "crazy" by your largely male fan-base means you're doing something right. Men love "crazy." More on that in a second.

After Esquire's reporter spends a good long paragraph describing her face as "sublime, a force of nature, an elaborately camouflaged butterfly...flawless," he concludes his profile with a list of some of the "craziest" things she said during their interview:

"I believe in aliens....

"I am childlike in my spirit, and I want to believe in fairy tales.. .

"Loch Ness monster - there's something to it....

"There's the Bell Witch...

"What distracts me from my reality is bigfoot. They are my celebrities."

Carrie Underwood: 'I'm not close to Taylor Swift'

 photo Taylor-Swift-and-Carrie-Underwood_zps2686339e.jpg

Carrie Underwood has revealed that she is not close to Taylor Swift despite them working in the same genre of music.

Underwood lightheartedly poked fun at Swift at the 2012 Country Music Awards, but admitted that she doesn't really know the 23-year-old.

She told Allure magazine: "I'm not close to her. We run into each other at events. We're never in the same place at the same time."

In November 2012, Underwood and Brad Paisley, who were hosting the show, jested about Swift's failed relationships in the opening monologue.

Underwood also pointed out in the interview that the television show Nashville and the Gwyneth Paltrow movie Country Strong do not depict the country music scene in Nashville accurately.

She told the February 2013 issue: "Nashville is all about females; Country Strong is all about females. It's like there's a hundred spots for men to be able to take, but when it comes to women - and I don't mean to say this in a bragging way at all - but unfortunately I'm the only female this year who spent three weeks at number one on the country charts. Three weeks."

Iggy Azalea and Michael B. Jordan break up

After splitting from Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky sometime around February of last year, Australian rapper and T.I's protege' Iggy Azalea has reportedly called it quits with her actor boyfriend Michael B. Jordan earlier this month, after they were rumored to be dating last Summer.

The ex-couple tried to keep their relationship under-wraps but was constantly spotted out together and hanging around L.A.

Here's what the rapstress had to say about the break up via Twitter:

"....Love someone who understands that the dream comes first. Love someone that loves the fact that you have goals."
I tried to date a guy but I only saw him once in 9months because I kept cancelling in favor of work....sorry guy!
At first he said he understood, but I suspect he secretly thinks I'm a big jerk now."

‘Force of Hobbit’ – Richard Armitage enters the ring with a larger-than-life performance

Interview for Nylon Guys - Jan 2013

‘Is your first question going to be, ‘You’re very tall for a dwarf’?”
Sitting down to lunch at Pastis with Richard Armitage, it’s instantly evident why this query has been dogging the British actor lately. A lanky, handsome guy whose looks recall a wilier, more aerodynamic Hugh Jackman, Armitage is quite the physical opposite of Thorin Oakenshield, the dwarf leader he portrays in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Peter Jackson’s soon-to-be-blockbuster prequel to his Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Django Unchained becomes Quentin Tarantino's highest grossing film

The Weinstein Company is pretty proud of Quentin Tarantino’s latest effort, Django Unchained. Aside from the two Golden Globe wins for Best Supporting Actor (Christoph Waltz) and Best Screenplay (Quentin Tarantino), and along with the five Oscar nominations the film received (including Best Picture), Django Unchained has officially become Tarantino’s highest grossing film to date (domestically). Have a look at The Weinstein Company’s official release after the jump.

New York, NY – January 17, 2013 – The Weinstein Company (TWC) is thrilled to announce that DJANGO UNCHAINED has just become Quentin Tarantino’s highest-grossing film to date in the domestic marketplace, with a cumulative gross nearing $130 Million. The movie, starring Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington, and Samuel L. Jackson, was released wide on Christmas Day 2012. Tarantino’s previous record was set by INGLORIOUS BASTERDS which grossed over $120.5 Million in the U.S.

Fresh off this weekend’s two Golden Globe® wins for Best Supporting Actor (Christoph Waltz) and Best Screenplay (Quentin Tarantino), and celebrating the movie’s five Oscar® nominations including Best Picture, DJANGO UNCHAINED is continuing to gather steam in the awards race, and continues to receive critical and popular acclaim. Some of the many supporters include the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, who released this statement, “ [DJANGO UNCHAINED] captures the cultural, physical and psychological pain heaped upon the lives of men and women of African descent-expressing in dramatic terms the existential nightmare endured by so many for so long. By this measure, the scar of violence, exploitation and subrogation made evident—and the focus of this film—is not just a picture of random violence, but portrays America at its lowest moment as a nation. The violence that we see portrayed in this drama might well renew our focus on the 256 years of racial violence that continues to be an indelible chapter in the history that is America.”

“Bob and I have had the most extraordinary filmmaker relationship with Quentin Tarantino and we are proud to be here for this incredible milestone. We also appreciate working with Amy Pascal, Michael Lynton, and the incredible Sony team on this project. They have been great partners internationally,” said Harvey Weinstein, Co-Chairman of The Weinstein Company.

What's your favorite Tarantino movie ?

Zac Efron was mortified to be caught hanging out at "Fantasy World" sex shop in NYC yesterday – even though he was just filming scenes for his new movie, “Are We Officially Dating.” When he realized a photographer had caught a picture of him surrounded by an array of glowing dildos, Efron immediately halted shooting and rushed out to chase down the pap.

“Zac was begging the guy to delete the pictures,” an eyewitness tells Page Six exclusively. “He kept telling him that he has so many young fans and he didn’t want them to see it.” The photog refused, so his reps were quick to publicize the news that it was simply a scene for the upcoming romantic comedy.

But this isn’t the first time Efron has been caught in a similar situation: Back in 2008 he and then-girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens were photographed shopping for a blow-up sheep sex doll in Los Angeles.

Kelly Ripa uses botox on face and armpits, stays thin due to SoulCycle

Her face is projected on 6 million viewers' HD-TV screens practically every morning.

And Live! with Kelly and Michael host Kelly Ripa has admitted she receives Botox injections every seven months in order to keep her pretty face looking its best.

'It's the Botox. Every seven months or so my eyelid skin rests on my eyelashes,' the 42-year-old star revealed in the February issue of Elle Magazine.

'So I feel like [Botox] makes my makeup artist's life easier, and it makes my eyes look a little more open on TV, which is where I happen to work right now.'

The three-time Emmy winner has even had injections in her armpits to prevent sweating, and she maintains her super-slim frame thanks to frequent SoulCycle spin classes.

Back when she starred on the soap All My Children, Kelly transformed lemons to lemonade whenever she received vicious, fat-shaming hate mail from fans.

8x12 Zugzwang - Why did Criminal Minds do it?

Criminal Minds | This is what my emailbox looked like this morning: A huge stack of “Is Reid’s girlfriend really dead?!” I for one didn’t think that was in doubt, and it isn’t — and here’s the tale behind the tragic twist. “We pitched a story where we’d introduce a unique love interest for Dr. Reid and it would end in tragedy,” showrunner Erica Messer explains. And make no mistake, the dark wrinkle had Matthew Gray Gubler’s blessing. “Matthew agreed the only way to tell this story was if she died in the saddest way possible,” Messer says. And while Maeve’s murder — in front of the beau she’d only just set eyes on — abruptly ended this week’s hour, Reid’s reaction/mourning “will be the emotional anchor of episode 813 and it’s the arc for Reid’s character for the rest of the season.”

Tenacious D reveal plans for comedy-rock festival

Tenacious D have revealed plans to create their own comedy-rock festival.
The duo, who consist of Hollywood actor Jack Black and comedian Kyle Gass, have said the one-day event, called Festival Supreme, will take place on October 19, but they have yet to nail down a venue or acts.
However, the duo said they hoped to convince Flight Of The Conchords, Spinal Tap, Tim Minchin, Eric Idle, Lonely Island and Zach Galifianakis to play the "fuckin' Super Bowl of comedy-rock".
Asked by Rolling Stone if they had ever considered a Blur/Oasis rivalry with Flight Of The Conchords, Black let slip the festival plans. He said: "We actually have been talking about joining forces, because we've always wanted to do a double bill. We're working on a festival, called Festival Supreme."
He added: "It'll be a meeting of the minds. It's gonna be like Mount Rockmore, where you've got your Flight of the Conchords, your Lonely Island, your Tenacious D, your Zach Galifianakis, your Spinal Tap, your Eric Idle."
No venue has been set for the Autumn bash, but Jack Black said they are in talks to host the festival on Santa Monica Pier. "October 19, circle that in your calendar", he said. "Now there's no guarantee who's gonna be on the bill – it might just be Tenacious D and Weird Al (Yankovic). But that's a long ways off."
Tenacious D released their third studio album, 'Rize Of The Fenix', in 2012. The album was the follow-up to 2006's 'The Pick Of Destiny' and the band's 2001 self-titled debut.
