Golden Globes Backstage 2013: Quentin Tarantino Drops the N-Word

Quentin Tarantino was nothing if not Quentin Tarantino.

Less than a minute into his press conference backstage at the 70th Annual Golden Globes, the Django Unchained winner dropped the N-word. The usually bustling press room fell silent for a second; a reporter could be heard letting out a whistle, as in, "Oh, boy."

The filmmaker's choice language came as he fieldied a question about his controversial, slavery-era spaghetti Western. Tarantino was not apologizing.

Critics who think the N-word should not have been spoken by his 19th century characters, the mile-a-minute Tarantino argued, are "saying I should massage. They're saying I should whitewash. They're saying I should lie."

Don Cheadle, a winner for House of Lies, who took the stage right after Tarantino, couldn't resist picking up the thread.

"Please no [N-word] questions," Cheadle told reporters. "Black people questions are all right."

For the record, Cheadle said he hadn't seen Django, but was looking forward to checking it out.

This cretin better not win the Oscar. Sorry, I didn't update the post. I didn't know it was accepted. When I posted it this was the only article available.

Royal bun in the oven due in July

One of the most anticipated births in recent history is expected in July, when the third in line to the British throne is due to arrive, St. James's Palace said this morning.

''Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to confirm they are expecting a baby in July," the palace said in a statement. "The Duchess's condition continues to improve since her stay in hospital last month.''

Reading between the lines, the palace statement implies that the royal couple will have one child, dispelling speculation that the duchess is carrying twins.

Doing the math, if the new prince or princess arrives early, he or she could share a birthday with William's mother, Princess Diana, who was born July 1. But the due date looks likely to be mid-July.

Kate Middleton, 31, who is 13 to 14 weeks pregnant, is continuing to do better after spending four nights at a hospital last month because of severe morning sickness called hyperemesis gravidarum.

The duchess has since cut her public engagements, keeping a low profile as she recovers. Her most recent appearance was for the unveiling of her official portrait Friday with royal watchers spotting a tiny baby bump.

Prince Charles recently delighted at the prospect of being a grandpa, saying, it's ''a very nice thought of grandfatherhood at my old age, if I may say so. So that's splendid. And I'm very glad my daughter-in-law is getting better, thank goodness.''

A royal spokesman says both will be out of the picture for the foreseeable future with William, 30, carrying on with his day job as a search-and-rescue pilot and Kate putting her feet up and out of the spotlight.

'I'm NOT pregnant!': Anne Hathaway Denies Rumors

Giuliana Rancic got the Golden Globes red carpet abuzz with baby talk after speculating Anne Hathaway might be expecting her first child with new husband Adam Shulman.

But the 30-year-old, who went on to win the best supporting actress award for her role ins Les Miserables, was quick to nix the rumours.

'She's not pregnant,' her spokesperson Stephen Huvane told MailOnline.

Hathaway certainly showed no hint of a bump as she arrived at the ceremony in a white skirt and corset.

Rancic twice speculated about newlywed Hathaway on E!'s Countdown to the Red Carpet on Sunday.

Matt Bellamy of Muse Blasts Society 'Structures'

Matt Bellamy has blasted the ''structures'' keeping people ''in place'' within society.
Muse think young people are ''born into bondage''
The conspiracy theory-loving rockers feel younger generations are oppressed by subtle means, and hope their music finds its way to an audience who willing to question society's norms.
Frontman Matt Bellamy said: ''The structures keeping people in place these days are days are far more covert and coercive: Advertising, the media, the way corporations and governments function and so on.
''A lot of young people are born into bondage and don't necessarily know it. I'd like to think our songs have some influence on people who feel they don't want to fall in with everything.''
The 'Uprising' rocker feels his group are keeping up a ''tradition'' among bands of making young people think and question what's around them.
He added to Classic Rock magazine: ''I do feel we are keeping up that tradition, that it's the job of bands, musicians, artists in general to at least shed light on things people might not be aware of.
''I wouldn't pretend we're the starting point, but in combination with other artists out there, I think we collectively influence other people to come up with new ways of thinking. And they're the ones who will form policies in the future.''

Yeah Yeah Yeahs unveil brand new songs at California show

Yeah Yeah Yeahs debuted a clutch of new songs last night (January 11) at a show at the Glass House in Pomona, California.
Arriving onstage in a glittery headband and zebra print cape over a red fringed jacket, frontwoman Karen O opened up the set with a brand new track which included the lyrics "it's good to sing/it's good to cry".
The band followed it with 'Phenomena' and then another new song, while the 14-track set also included one more slower-paced new number. All of the new songs are thought to be taken from the band's upcoming fourth LP, which is slated for release this spring and follows their 2009 album 'It's Blitz!'.

The band's set for the one-off gig also included 'Heads Will Roll', 'Soft Shock', 'Gold Lion' and 'Zero'. Karen O - sporting a blonde bobbed hairstyle - kicked glitter bombs of Y-shaped confetti into the rowdy crowd throughout the performance, and handed her microphone to fans in the front rows so they could sing-along to 'Cheated Hearts'.
"Thank you Pomona, we're the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. You know that. We love you," said Karen O before leaving the stage. Yeah Yeah Yeahs then returned to play a two song encore, made up of 'Maps' and 'Tick', with Karen O dedicating the former to the evening's support band, Los Angeles punk duo The Bots. "This is a Yeah Yeah Yeahs love song," she said before the track. "We'd like to dedicate this song to The Bots, who opened up and are cool as shit! Yeah Yeah Yeahs love The Bots!"

Jodie Foster Speech: Celebrities React To Actress' Coming Out Speech At The Golden Globes (TWEETS)

Jodie Foster caused quite a stir with her emotional speech at the 2013 Golden Globe awards.

The 50-year-old actress ended years of speculation about her sexual orientation when she casually came out of the closet while accepting her Cecil B. Demille award on Sunday night.

In addition to officially confirming that she's gay, the actress -- who has been in showbusiness for 47 years -- also spoke about her changing role in Hollywood, and complained about the lack of privacy today's stars have to deal with -- something she's spoken about at length before.

Rising gay icon and Golden Globe winner Lena Dunham waiting for gay marriage legalization

She's unlucky in love on her hit HBO show, "Girls," but Lena Dunham is pure joy offset. The 24-year-old star and creator of the critically lauded show referred to her boyfriend Jack Antonoff as her "family" Sunday night while accepting the award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. The comment caused some to speculate that the pair had recently gotten engaged.

Not so: Dunham clarified those remarks backstage at the Golden Globes, saying: "I am not engaged. I don't want to get married until all gay people can get married." Dunham follows celebrities like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, who have said similar things in the past. source

Things are getting super serious betwee Lindsay Lohan nd Wanted singe Max George -'cause TMZ has learned he just took her home to meet his parents in the U.K. ... and we're told it went off without a hitch.

Lindsay and Max have been (unofficially) seeing each other since that fateful night in November -- when  she allegedly punched a fortune teller at an NYC nightclub -- but this week, they took their relationship to the next level.

Lindsay's been partying it up recently in London -- as we reported -- and sources close to the actress tell us, Max invited her out to his parents' house in Manchester while she was in the area.

Lindsay happily made the visit early this week -- and we're told Lindsay had a great time, hanging out with the whole George clan for an entire day ... and she felt very at home.

We're told Lindsay and Max have been in constant contact since the last Wanted concert Lindsay attended last month (in the U.S.) -- and Max was adamant about her meeting his family.

As of now, we're told Lindsay and Max are NOT officially GF and BF -- just friends who enjoy each other's company ... and probably bang each other a lot.

Natalie Wood report: Actress' injuries could be from assault

A new Los Angeles County Coroner's report into the death of Natalie Wood released Monday questions original 1981 findings that led investigators to conclude that the actress died accidentally, sources close to the investigation told The Times.

The report concludes that bruising on the actress' wrists and other areas could be more consistent with injuries from an assault prior to when she entered the water, the report and sources said.

The new findings -- which sheriff's sources said they have known about for some time -- stop short of classifying her death as a homicide.

Details about the new report were first reported by CBS News.

The sources told The Times that the bruises are on her wrists and other areas and are among the findings that coroner's investigators originally overlooked in the accidental-death finding more than 30 years ago.

The case was re-opened in November 2011. Last August, Los Angeles County coroner's officials amended Wood's death certificate to reflect unanswered questions about her Nov. 29, 1981, death at Catalina Island. It changed the description of her death from an accidental drowning to "drowning and other undetermined factors."

At the time of her death, her husband, actor Robert Wagner, told authorities she fell off their yacht, the 60-foot-long Splendour, possibly while trying to re-tie a dinghy that had been banging against the side of the boat, disturbing her sleep.

Her body was found hours later floating in the waters off Catalina Island.

Wood's death was ruled an accidental drowning.

Looks like Selena Gomez enjoyed herself at the Golden Globes after party last night as according to reports in the US the star “flirted” with 'Hunger Games' star Josh Hutcherson during the evening before leaving together.

The 20 year-old reportedly ended her two year romance with Justin Bieber just before New Years, following a blowout fight on holiday in Mexico. Arriving at the Harvey Weinstein hosted after party with 'Spring Breakers' co-star Vanessa Hudgens, Sel looked smoking hot in a white and gold minidress and according to eye-witnesses looked anything but heartbroken as she flirted with Josh.

The eye-witness revealed: “Vanessa needed to go to the bathroom and asked me where the restroom was, and I told them both [Vanessa & Selena] and they went,”

“Josh followed them, and Selena and Josh left the Beverly Hilton together. Justin is in no way on her mind whatsoever.”

It might have been a little awkward though as, Josh, 20, used to date Vanessa! Justin and Selena have yet to confirm a split, but reports claim they're finally over. Looks like she's moving on!

Lady Gaga Wardrobe Malfunction + Kelly Osborne ends feud, proclaims herself 'Big Fan'

Lady Gaga inadvertently provided some new Fashion Police material for Kelly Osbourne on Friday.

The 26-year-old pop star suffered a wardrobe malfunction onstage in Vancouver, Canada, when her tight latex ensemble split down the middle, revealing her bare butt to the audience.

But don't expect Kelly, 28, to crack too many jokes about Gaga's exposed derrière. Following a heated feud (so hot, even mama Sharon Osbourne got involved!), the two ladies appear to have put their issues behind them.

Gaga responded to Kelly's on-air comments about her weight in an open letter, telling the E! star it saddened her to see her as someone "who makes fun of others for a living."

Sharon then responded with her own open letter, calling Mother Monster "a bully because you have 32 million followers hanging on your every word and you are criticizing Kelly in your open letter."

But Kelly told People Saturday she's "a big fan" of the "Born This Way" singer.

"All I have to say on this subject is that I love Lady Gaga!" she explained. "I made stupid mistakes when I was 25, as well, when I accused people of doing things that were wrong. We all live and we learn, and like I said, I'm a big fan of hers."

As for Sharon's comments about the star? "I have no control over my mother," Kelly said. "She can do whatever she wants."

Gaga explained in a Facebook post Saturday that her letter to Kelly "was open, because her statements on cyber-bulling were public & as a youth activist I'm compelled to be involved."

"The 'real world' can be cruel, why not try to change it into a better place?" she mused.

Fair enough.

Arrow's Sci-Fi Cult Casting aka EPICNESS

'Arrow' exec on cult casting: 'We're fans of Torchwood, Farscape'

Arrow co-creator Andrew Kreisberg has admitted that his own "fandom" has led to him casting cult favorites on the show.

Fringe actor Seth Gabel, Farscape's Ben Browder and Torchwood's John Barrowman are among the sci-fi actors who have landed roles on The CW's superhero drama.

"A lot of that is just done for us," Kreisberg told SciFiNow. "I love Farscape, so I got to work with Ben Browder. I love Doctor Who and Torchwood, so I got to work with John Barrowman.

"[Exec producer] Greg Berlanti worked with Seth years ago on Dirty Sexy Money, so when the character of the Count came up, he was actually Greg's first choice and he's proven to be fantastic."

Kreisberg added that it is "fandom on our part" that "more than anything" leads Arrow to cast these familiar faces.

"It sort of goes along with our philosophy about this show - we care very much about what the audience likes and what they don't like, [and] what will excite them," he explained.

"But we always start with, 'What's exciting us?' - [because] this is the kind of show that we would all be hyper fans of… if we weren't making it! So as long as we're making ourselves happy, we hope that the audience will be equally as enthusiastic."

Arrow returns to The CW in the US on January 16 and is back on Sky1 in the UK on January 21.

Can we just give Ben another show please? I'm getting tired of just a bunch of one episode guest starring.

Lindsay Lohan as made one of the worst decisions of her life ... firin Shawn Holley - the lawyer who has kept her out of jail multiple times -- and hired a New York lawyer, who was suspended from practicing law for 5 years back in 1994  ... sources tell TMZ.

Lohan is facing criminal prosecution in both California and New York.  Attorney Mark Heller s repping Lindsay in the NYC assault case.  Shawn Holley was repping LiLo in L.A. in her multiple criminal cases -- most recently the car crash where she allegedly lied to cops.

It's a stunning development -- given that Holley has taken heat for being too effective, keeping Lindsay out of the pokey in the jewelry heist case as well as several probation violation cases.  And she's almost magically made some criminal investigations disappear.

Sources connected with the L.A. prosecution of Lindsay tell TMZ ... Heller -- who according to the New York Times has been called a "menace to the public" by some lawyers  -- sent a letter to Holley saying he was now repping her on all criminal matters.

Bad timing on Lindsay's part, because sources tell us ... Holley was literally on her way to the courthouse when Heller sent his letter -- she was trying to negotiate yet another sweet settlement for Lindsay in the lying-to-cops case.

Calls to Holley were not returned.

'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey': Your unexpected questions answered

Now that you've watched "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," you may have some unexpected questions.

Even if you read the book long ago or quite recently, some material was not from "The Hobbit" proper, but from the appendixes to "The Lord of the Rings," which helped connect the stories. Of course, we had the benefit of seeing "The Lord of the Rings" films first. Despite being a prequel, "The Hobbit" has to play catch-up with what we're presumed to know -- that there exists a Ring of Power that Sauron has lost and Gollum has found/stolen, which Bilbo finds/steals during a detour on a separate adventure.

This is the main connective tissue -- the Ring itself -- but since everything else can get confusing pretty quickly, we'll try to sort out some of the pressing matters for you.

Zack Snyder Gives Me Blue Balls

Man of Steel director Zack Snyder is developing a Star Wars film that will take place outside of the planned new trilogy of movies.

Vulture reports that the helmer, who has also made 300, Watchmen and Sucker Punch, is "developing a Star Wars project for Lucasfilm that is set within the series’ galaxy, though parallel to the next trilogy. It will be an as-yet-untitled Jedi epic loosely based on Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 classic Seven Samurai, with the ronin and katana being replaced by the Force-wielding knights and their iconic lightsabers." (Edit: Of course, Lucas' original film was inspired by Kurosawa’s work as well, while a Clone Wars episode in 2010 was inspired by Seven Samurai.)

No word yet on where the film would take place in the Star Wars timeline, though Vulture's sources indicate it will probably not be a "numbered" episode and rather will be a standalone film set sometime after Return of the Jedi.

UPDATE: Director Zack Snyder has come forward to deny a report claiming he's journeying to a galaxy far, far away.
our editor recommends

New York magazine's Vulture blog reported Monday that Snyder, the director behind 300, Watchmen and the upcoming Man of Steel, was developing a Star Wars movie. According to the site, the feature would not be part of the planned numbered trilogy but would be an off-shoot tonally in the vein of the Japanese classic The Seven Samurai.

But in an exclusive statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder's spokesperson says: "While he is super flattered because he is a huge fan, Zack is not involved in any way with the new Star Wars. He is currently in post on his two films, Man of Steel and 300: Battle of Artemisia.”

That means no Episode VII, VIII or IX, and no offshoot movies, the rep confirms.

The idea of Snyder tackling a Star Wars project isn’t far-fetched. Lucasfilm is currently on the hunt for a filmmaker or two to tackle the final trilogy, which is in the process of being written by Michael Arndt. Directors ranging from J.J. Abrams to Jon Favreau to Matthew Vaughan have surfaced as possible (or dream) contenders.

And as THR previously revealed, the company is developing movies that would expand the Star Wars universe in off-shoot one-shots or trilogies. Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote 1981's Empire Strikes Back, and Simon Kinberg, a veteran of X-Men: First Class, are two writers penning stories that veer off the numbered movies.

Snyder, whose Cruel and Unusual Films is based at Warner Bros., is already busy with his own projects. In active development on his slate is the war drama The Last Photograph.

Maggie Smith Returning for Season 4 of Downton Abbey

The Dowager Countess is staying put.

Downton Abbey exec producer Gareth Neame confirmed to TVLine Sunday at HBO’s post-Golden Globes bash that Maggie Smith will indeed be returning for the drama’s upcoming fourth season.

Over the summer, Abbey creator Julian Fellowes admitted that even he didn’t know if the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning actress would be back. “I can’t tell you, ‘Oh, yes, she’s definitely contracted [for Season 4] — because she isn’t,” he said. “It’s entirely up to her when she stays and when she goes.

“With Maggie, you never know,” he added. “Other [actors] sign on for the next series and they sign for this and they sign for that, but she doesn’t. She stays her own person. But as far as I’m concerned, I hope she stays with the show until Downton falls down.”

[Spoiler about Season 3]Smith’s decision to stick around ensures that all of the show’s major castmembers are on board for Season 4, with the exception of [MAJOR SPOILER ALERT] Jessica Brown Findlay and Dan Stevens, whose respective characters, Sybill and Matthew, are killed off in Season 3.

Beyoncé Knowles is rumoured to be the new face of H&M.

Reports that the 31-year-old singer will front the Swedish brand's new campaign first surfaced last week when Beyonce was snapped wearing tropical-printed swimwear on, what is thought to be, a shoot for the high street giant.

Further fuelling the rumours, one of the star's dancers Kimberly Gipson then tweeted: "First day of trial in the Bahamas! H&M all set … go." However, the post was deleted shortly afterwards.

While H&M have not commented on the rumours, reports in June 2012 that Lana Del Rey was the brand's new campaign star were only confirmed a month after speculation first surfaced.

If Beyoncé is to front a campaign for the high street favourite, the Love On Top hitmaker will join such famous faces as David Beckham, Gisele Bundchen and Jerry Hall.

Anthony Mackie on playing The Falcon in CAP 2 in different interviews during the Gangster Squad Prom

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Amid promotional efforts for Gangster Squad, Anthony Mackie recently chatted with Black Film about taking wing his The Falcon in Marvel's anticipated sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. While the actor has discussed the script and costume in past interviews, Mackie now explains what attracted him to the role while also delving into the character's comic book history.

“Every time I go see the comic book movie and I have a 3 year-old son and he’s always telling me he wants to be Spider-Man or Captain America. It’s unfair for little black kids not to have a superhero to look up to. When I got the call about the Falcon that was a no brainer. I feel that this is for a whole generation who has the opportunity to know a superhero like we did. We grew up with Spawn and Meteor Man. Every kid had a pot or can and thought they were Meteor Man, so I’m excited for a bunch of kids to say that I’m the Falcon.”

“The Falcon was a short-lived comic book series. If you look at the time in which they introduced the Falcon and what they were trying to do with him, it was an interesting cool character that wasn’t executed well at all. That’s why when the comic book died, they re-introduced him as a Robin to Captain America’s Batman, just to re-spark the life of the character. It’s one of those things where if you are not a real comic book fan and it was short-lived, you wouldn’t know who he was; whereas Black Panther had a long run with an individual comic book.”

Anthony Mackie is out promoting Gangster Squad, and finally someone has asked him questions about Captain America: The Winter Soldier. While not going into too much detail Mackie told MTV he has read the scrip, as well as seen what his costume will look like. He also went on to praise the Russo brothers.

Marvel NOW! Q&A: X-Men
Brian Wood gets set for his new series with artist Olivier Coipel starring Storm and a group of elite X-Women!

By Tim O’Shea
Starting this April, writer Brian Wood teams up with artist Olivier Coipel on the new Marvel NOW! ongoing series, X-MEN.
Wood’s return to the mutant world includes a reunion with characters who flourished under his writing recently in Storm and Psylocke, but you cannot have a team book with only two cast members. The incredible line-up of X-MEN features a plethora of greats, including Jubilee, Kitty Pryde, Rachel Grey and Rogue. The writer relishes the chance to write this iconic and dynamic cast.
We recently caught up with Wood to learn why he approaches this new series as an opportunity to capture the “classic X-Men” vibe.
Marvel.com: The opportunity to write X-MEN must mean a great deal to you to take it on at such a busy time for you. What is it about the potential of this new series appealed to you so much that you added it to your already busy and successful schedule?
Brian Wood: Well, I look at this as just taking up the same space that X-MEN [did] last year, when I was writing the title then. So, in my own weird way of justifying things, this adds no new work! Amazing, huh? But yeah, I am busy as hell and I deeply, deeply miss having any sort of free time, but how do you turn a job like this down? It's worth it to have a really intense year or two if it means having the chance to do this work and see it sitting on my shelf, in the end.
And the appeal of the series: this has a great iconic title, X-MEN #1. It's a chance to work with Olivier Coipel, to work with Jeanine Schaefer, to write a female-led book packed with marquee names—there's no downside here; it’s a X-book I could only dream of getting. I joke with Jeanine that Marvel needs to go ahead and announce this already because otherwise I don't believe her that it’s real.

Anne Hathaway will star in an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew,” an individual with knowledge of the deal told TheWrap.

Abi Morgan, who scripted “The Iron Lady” and “Shame,” will handle the adaptation, a modern-day retelling of the iconic play set in mid-20th century Italy.

The project will be produced by Debra Hayward and Working Title, reuniting with the company behing "Les Miserables," another individual with knowledge of the film told TheWrap.

Hayward, a former Working Title executive, left the company in June of 2011 to start her own production company, Monumental Pictures. She promptly signed a first-look deal with Working TItle, and "Shrew" will be the first film made under that agreement.

Universal and Working Title, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner's British production outfit responsible for “Fargo” and “Billy Elliot,” have a longstanding production relationship dating to 1999. Their current first-look deal runs through 2015, meaning Universal would get first crack at distributing the film.

The two companies have collaborated on such films as “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” “Atonement” and 2012’s “Les Miserables.” Hathaway won a Golden Globe on Sunday for her performance as Fantine in that film, and she is considered the frontrunner for a Supporting Actress Oscar as well.

Hollywood and Broadway have adapted “The Taming of the Shrew” on several occasions, including Cole Porter’s musical “Kiss Me, Kate,” which originally appeared on Broadway in 1951 and was revived in 1952 and 1999, and a 1967 film starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.

Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles starred in a modern reimagining of the tale in 1999, Gil Junger’s “10 Things I Hate About You.”

Universal, Working Title and Hathaway's representatives at CAA all declined to comment on the project.

Hathway, who last year appeared in both "Les Miserables" and "The Dark Knight Rises," has no projects currently in production. She will lend her voice to "Rio 2," the sequel to Fox's successful animated hit, which is in pre-production.

Michael Fassbender's Assassin's Creed Movie Finds A Writer

Michael Fassbender has been attached to star in a big screen adaptation of the video game Assassin's Creed for months, but only now are have they completed the search for someone to write the words that he will perform. Ubisoft Motion Pictures, the film arm of the France-based video game developer Ubisoft, has hired Michael Lesslie to script the upcoming movie.

THR notes that Lesslie is an accomplished playwright, having most recently written Prince of Denmark, a sorta-prequel to William Shakespeare's Hamlet. The play was performed last year at the National Theater in England. His experience in film is more limited, having only credits in shorts, making Assassin's Creed his feature debut.

The story follows a character named Desmond Miles who was trained as a killer before rejecting the lifestyle and becoming a bartender. A mysterious organization known as Abstergo Industries finds and kidnaps him and forces him to use a device that allows him to relive the lives of his assassin ancestors. As he relives their memories he goes on missions and collects artifacts. In addition to starring Fassbender will also be producing the movie with Conor McCaughan. New Regency is now working with Ubisoft to find more producers as well as a director for the project. Surprisingly their hope is to have the movie in theaters before the end of the year.

Assassin's Creed is currently one of the most popular video game franchises going and is the premiere title is Ubisoft's library. The first game was released in 2007 and the latest, Assassin's Creed III came out in October of last year.

They want to have this film out before the end of the year? that's um... interesting (I rather they take there time on this but I guess not)

Lindsay Apparently Has Fantasia-levels of Reading Comprehension

Lindsay Lohan is telling friends ... she never authorized her New York lawyer to fire Shawn Holley and never instructed him to send her a letter of termination ... but there's one BIG problem with her story.

Sources connected with attorney Mark Heller tell TMZ ... Lindsay SIGNED the letter he sent to Holley earlier today, giving her the boot.

TMZ broke the story ... Holley was 86'd just before a scheduled meeting with the judge and prosecutor in Lindsay's lying-to-cops case, trying to plea bargain it away.

Lindsay is now telling friends ... she desperately wants Shawn back on board. She's saying she thinks of Shawn as a second mother -- interesting, considering she barely has a first.

Lindsay says she knows Shawn is an ace in court and she would never drop her the day before she's scheduled to go to court. As you know, the judge set a hearing tomorrow to decide if Lindsay violated her probation in the jewelry heist case by allegedly lying to cops in the car accident case. Again ... Lindsay signed that letter.

Lindsay says she's instructed Heller to send Shawn another letter cancelling the first.

As for whether Shawn will take her back ...

So either she's lying again or has no self-motivation to keep track of what she approves; both are equally believable. I can't even say "read the fine print" because I doubt she would even check the bold, underlined red print if it was there.

Windows Live Messenger, formerly known as MSN Messenger, will finally be shut down by Microsoft on 15 March, after serving Internet users for more than 13 years.

After its launch way back in July 1999, MSN Messenger quickly became the most popular online chat service in the world. Serving hundreds of millions of users across multiple platforms, in as many as 50 different languages, Windows Live Messenger was part of most people’s everyday lives online, but with the rise of social networks and competing services such as Facebook Chat, Skype, Google Talk and iMessage, Windows Live Messenger slowly faded into the background.

After Microsoft purchased Skype in May of 2011 from shareholders including eBay, Silver Lake Partners, Andreessen Horowitz and the Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board, it was clear that Windows Live Messenger’s day were numbered. This was officially confirmed by Microsoft back in November of 2012.

Microsoft provided a service that lets Windows Live Messenger users migrate early via a button that was added to the Messenger desktop app, but the move has not been plain sailing for some who have already made the jump. In some cases, contacts have not been transferring across the two services successfully.

If you still use Windows Live Messenger, it may be worth backing up your contacts manually ahead of the planned migration, and checking Skype and MSN forums for any tips to ensure that your move over to Skype is a painless one.

Existing Windows Live Messenger user accounts will be migrated to Skype ahead of the planned shutdown on March 15th. After this date, Messenger login attempts will be unsuccessful.

well I stopped using it but MY CHILDHOOOOOOOOOOD/TEEN YEARS...memories ;__;

Disney moves 'Maleficent' to summer 2014, claims summer 2015 for Capt. Jack Sparrow

After a period of relative quiet in the House of Mouse’s feature film department, Disney’s magic cinema cauldron is brewing once more.

The studio announced today that Angelina Jolie’s live-action Maleficent — a retelling of the Sleeping Beauty story from the perspective of its wicked villain — The film also stars Sharlto Copley, Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Miranda Richardson, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville, has been shifted from its original release date of March 14, 2014 to the far more high profile release of July 2, 2014, smack in the middle of the Independence Day holiday. It will also be released in 3-D.

With the March 2014 corridor now relatively open, Disney chose to slot The Muppets 2 for the following weekend, March 21, 2014. Ricky Gervais and Ty Burrell are both officially signed up for the sequel, with Tina Fey reportedly in talks to join them.

The fifth Pirates of the Carribean film also officially landed a release date, for July 10, 2015, with Johnny Depp attached to reprise his role as Capt. Jack Sparrow and franchise rookie Jeff Nathanson (Tower Heist, Catch Me If You Can) penning the screenplay.

2013's Six Best New Shows (according to ET Online)

TV Critics are just coming off two weeks at The Television Critics Association Press Tour, where all the networks present panels for their new shows, featuring Q&A's with the stars and creators. The content of these conversations has the power to turn critics into swoony-eyed lovers or fang-baring haters, so I postponed selecting my favorite new shows until I'd digested everything the powers that be had to say.

So take a gander at 2013's Six Best New Shows, and their trailers, to see what stood up to scrutiny and left this critic breathless for more.

The Americans, FX

While some shows simply feel like a network's attempt to rip off the success of another (I'm looking at you NBC's Deception, which puts the "eh" in Revenge), FX's The Americans will simply appeal to everyone who enjoys Homeland, while serving up an entirely original story.

Well, not entirely original as the hypnotic story of two Russian sleeper spies living in Washington, D.C. circa 1980 is actually based on countless real couples whose marriage was just one masquerade they were forced to maintain in order to keep their cover.
The Americans premieres January 30.

Scene of the Crime: The Winslow Murders

The latest promotional videos for Fox's The Following have hit the web.

The Following premieres January 21, 9/8c on Fox.

Despite how these are numbered there aren't videos missing in the post these are the only ones that have been updated. Based on the two videos outside of the "Scene of the Crime" footage it looks like they're trying to play this as YouTube account of one of Joe Carroll's followers. These promos remind me of the Blair Witch one Sci-Fi did years ago. Can't wait for this to air.

Under The Dome gets premiere date + first regular cast

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

CBS has cast its first series regular in the buzzy summer drama Under the Dome.

Jake and the Never Land Pirates star Colin Ford has been tapped to play Joe, a teenager in Chester's Mill, the small New England town that is suddenly and mysteriously sealed off by an enormous transparent dome.

Based on the 2009 Stephen King novel, the series follows residents in the community as they deal with the postapocalyptic conditions while searching for answers as to what the barrier is, where it came from and when -- and if -- it will go away. Joe is described as being a smart kid who is freaked out when he discovers that both of his parents are on the other side of the dome.

CBS Television Studios will produce the drama, which was picked up straight to series, in association with Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television. Neal Baer (A Gifted Man, Law & Order: SVU), King, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Stacey Snider and comic scribe Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Lost) -- who penned the Under the Dome television adaptation -- will serve as executive producers. Director Niels Arden Oplev (Unforgettable, Sweden's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) will direct the first episode.

CBS generated buzz at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour during the weekend after screening a concept reel for Under the Dome, which will premiere at 10 p.m. Monday, June 24.

Adventures on Planet Gay: "Star Wars: The Old Republic" enables same-sex romance, with a twist

Star Wars: The Old Republic is being updated to include a rather inelegant solution to its lack of gay characters -- a planet called Makeb where all the homosexual elements of the galaxy can be found.

In the words of George Takei, "Ohhh my."

Makeb will appear in the Rise of the Hutt Cartel expansion pack (meaning you have to pay to get the content) and will include characters with "flirtatious" dialog for same-sex players -- a move that some feel amounts to digital segregation.

Needless to say, this attempt at compromise hasn't gone over very well: gay players are still feeling ostracized while homophobes have declared that this will ruin the Star Wars universe forever (though if it survived Jar-Jar Binks, it can pretty much survive anything...)

But Destructoid's Jim Sterling points out that "While BioWare's catching a lot of heat from all corners, and the idea of a single planet housing all the gay elements of the universe comes across as alienating and just plain weird, I find it hard to be totally mad at the studio here.

"It's true that Makeb makes the idea of gay relationships look more of an afterthought than ever, but most other videogames still struggle with after-afterthoughts, and you'd be hard pressed to find many other mainstream studios with a more consistent track record of not being shit about acknowledging homosexuality. Not to mention, the source material wasn't exactly a guiding light on the topic, so BioWare's been bolder than most others have been."

SWTOR executive producer Jeff Hickman admits initial plans for same-sex romances didn't go as planned: "I realize that we promised SGR to you guys and that many of you believed that this would be with a companion character," he wrote. "Unfortunately, this will take a lot more work than we realized at the time and it (like some other pieces of content we talked about earlier in the year) has been delayed as we focused on the changes required to take the game Free-to-Play. As we have said in the past, allowing same gender romance is something we are very supportive of."

Continuum Premiere on Syfy: What Did You Think?

Syfy debuted a new series Monday night (Jan. 14). It's a Canadian import called "Continuum" and it chronicles a futuristic cop (called "Protector" in 2077) who is transported back to 2012 from the dystopian future -- along with a band of terrorists from an organization called Liber8.

Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nichols) is the cop from 2077. When she arrives in modern-day (our modern day) Vancouver, she befriends a young technie named Alec Sadler (Erik Knudsen), who sets out to help her track the Liber8 terrorists before they can alter the past.

The crux comes in that the Liber8 "terrorists" are so-called freedom fighters against the corporate control once the governments collapse in the dystopian future. They plan to work in the past to try to keep the corporations from taking over in the future, while Kiera is more concerned with getting back to the future and her family.

Did you check out "Continuum"? What did you think?

the beginning (in the future) was intriguing then when the got to the present it fizzled out. the lead actress was unimpressive seeing as she just had one facial expression on the whole time. i'll give it a couple more eps

Netflix has signed another streaming deal with Time Warner.

Netflix has sweetened its streaming deal with Time Warner, the network and studio owner formerly reticent about selling its content to subscription services.

Monday brought the announcement of another contract. Netflix will add to its catalog complete previous seasons of shows from Turner Broadcasting and Warner Bros., both of which are owned by CNNMoney parent company Time Warner.

Sci-Fi Version Of Homer's The Odyssey In Development At Warner Bros.

Homer's great epic of Odysseus making his way back home is making its way back to the big screen - only this time the adventure is going to be in the stars as opposed to on the high seas. Warner Bros. is now developing a new adaptation of The Odyssey with a sci-fi spin and have now found the writer to pen it.

Deadline reports that first-time writer James DiLapo has been brought aboard to script the new version of hte story, which was brought to the studio by Terry Dougas of 1821 Pictures and Paris Kasidokostas Latsis. For those unaware of the story, the original book is about the Greek hero Odysseus who faces all sorts of perils while trying to make his way back home after the Battle of Troy (which they won with the help of the infamous Trojan Horse). The article doesn't mention any specifics about how the story will be adapted. The studio apparently sees franchise potential in the idea.

DiLapo is a young writer, having just graduated from New York University last year, but has already been doing quite well for himself in Hollywood. His first script, Devils At Play, both won the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Nicholl Fellowship and a place on the 2012 Black List.

It's kind of a generic idea, but I can't see why it wouldn't work. The Coen brothers brilliantly adapted the story as a the folksy comedy O Brother Where Art Thou? and while not everybody is the Coen brothers it's not hard to see how Odysseus' boat could be replaced with a spaceship
