Gender-Neutral Easy-Bake Oven Announced By Hasbro Following 13-Year-Old's Petition

Hasbro says it will soon reveal a gender-neutral Easy-Bake Oven after meeting with a New Jersey girl who started a campaign calling on the toy maker to make one that appeals to all kids.

McKenna Pope, 13, of Garfield, N.J., got more than 40,000 signatures on her online petition at and the support of celebrity chefs including Bobby Flay, who backed her call for Hasbro to make a gender-neutral oven and to include boys in the ads.

She was prompted to start the petition after shopping for an Easy-Bake as a Christmas present for her 4-year-old brother, Gavyn Boscio, and finding them only in purple and pink.

'To the Wonder' trailer

The ever-mysterious Terrence Malick returns in April with To the Wonder, and based on the first trailer, the film doubles down on everything you either loved or despised about Tree of Life. There are lovingly swooping shots of nature juxtaposed with highly formalized shots of contemporary cityscapes; there are young lovers running through various fields; there is poetical narration which sounds variously like a love poem and a eulogy.

In this case, the narration comes from Javier Bardem, who plays a priest. The film also stars Ben Affleck as a human male, and Rachel McAdams and Olga Kurylenko as two human females who apparently fall in love with Affleck. It pointedly does not star Rachel Weisz. But it does star nature. And isn’t nature in all of us? And aren’t we all therefore united in the divine? And therefore are we not all Rachel Weisz? Anyhow, this looks awesome. Watch the trailer:

Time Person Of The Year 2012: President Barack Obama

President Barack Obama has been named Time's Person of the Year.

Managing Richard Stengel unveiled the magazine's choice on Wednesday's "Today." He said it was remarkable that the president won two terms with over 50 percent of the popular vote as a Democrat. He also noted that Obama took office in an economic crisis, and credited him with creating a new political "alignment like Ronald Reagan did forty years ago."

This is the second time that Time has chosen Obama. The magazine said it named him Person of the Year in 2008 for winning against the odds and becoming the first black president of the United States.

"For finding and forging a new majority, for turning weakness into opportunity and for seeking, amid great adversity, to create a more perfect union, Barack Obama is TIME's 2012 Person of the Year," Stengel explained in his note this year.

Lostprophets lead singer Ian Watkins charged with sexual offences against children

Ian Watkins, the lead singer of Welsh rock band Lostprophets, has been charged with sexual offences against children, police have confirmed.

The 35-year-old, from Pontypridd, has been charged with conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a female under 13, and possession/distribution of indecent images of children.

Two women aged 20 and 24, from Doncaster and Bedford respectively, have been charged with similar offences, South Wales police said. All three are due to appear in court.

Police said they were naming the man as Mr Watkins ‘in order to assist their investigation’. Collapse )

Frank Ocean's Father Reportedly Suing Him for $1 Million

Long-lost loved ones—or not-so loved ones—always seem to turn back up once someone's made it big, don't they? In June, weeks before releasing his soon-to-be hugely celebrated channel ORANGE, Frank Ocean tweeted, "just found out my absent father's been cyberstalking me, hi dad."

Now, according to NME, things have gone a little further. "Father wanna sue me for a million. Like I owe him back child support. Weak individual bought me a swiss knife at 6yrs old then dipped on me," Ocean reportedly wrote, deleting the tweet shortly after. Another tweet still on Ocean's account reads, "I got his DNA though, maybe I inherited some of his karma too."

Talk about a drag. One second you're leading the Grammy nominees with hat-tips for Album of the Year and Best New Artist, the next you've got your estranged father somehow trying to wring money out of you. Way to take a page out of Eminem's mom's book, Papa Ocean.

We're guessing it won't dampen Frank's creative spirit, though. The guy's already talking about writing novels and building arenas. Nothing can stop him; even greedy non-parents.

LINDSAY LOHAN I'm Not a Trailer-Trashing Toilet Clogger!

Lindsay Lohan says she's been framed -- she couldn't have trashed her "Scary Movie 5" trailer ... 'cause it was trashed when she got there, and producers retaliated because they were pissed off she was a no-show for the first day of shooting ... so Lindsay is telling close friends.

Lindsay is pissed at reports claiming she clogged her toilet -- along with all the other toilets on the set.

Now here's Lindsay's story -- she's telling friends producers were ferociously upset she missed the kickoff day ... even though she told them she had walking pneumonia and doctors ordered her NOT to fly.

We're told when she arrived belatedly, the trailer was a disaster -- the shower and toilet were not working ... and she had to do her biz in adjoining trailers.

It was only after the shoot that Lindsay was accused of wreaking plumbing havoc and told she would not get her full paycheck ... to cover repair costs.

LiLo's friends say her people and movie honchos went back and forth for weeks before she finally waived the white flag ... and tens of thousands of bucks were deducted from her paycheck.

Sendhil Ramamurthy signs on to the CW’s Beauty and the Beast

Sendhil Sundance 1

Things are heating up for Sendhil Ramamurthy in 2013. First the
release of his film with Kristen Bell, “The Lifeguard” will premiere at
the Sundance Film Festival and in the summer, he will be appearing on
TVLand’s hit show, “Hot in Cleveland”. We’ve just gotten word that
there’s another project on the horizon for Sendhil.

It seemed like Cat and Vincent were finally making some progress in
the winter finale of “Beauty and the Beast,” but there’s a new guy
coming into the picture to further complicate their already-rocky
dynamic. Zap2it has confirmed that “Heroes” star Sendhil Ramamurthy has
been cast as Assistant District Attorney Gabriel Lowen.

He’s not going to make things easy for Catherine, on a personal or a
professional level. First of all, when they have their initial
encounter, he’s naked in the womens’ locker room. Awkward? Gabe isn’t
all charm and chisel, though. He’s deeply suspicious of some of the
goings-on in the police department — particularly a death that just
doesn’t add up — and he’ll be pretty relentless in his investigations.

“Strong on justice, Gabe spearheads the search for the vigilante and
finds his focus drawn to the elusive Catherine,” The CW says of the
lawyer, who is “from the upper echelons of NYC society.” He’ll first
appear in episode 15, and will recur throughout the end of the season.

Best known as Mohinder from “Heroes,” Ramamurthy has also recently appeared on “The Office” and “Covert Affairs.”

Elementary: Female Watson 'Started as a Joke'

Rob Doherty's choice to pair Jonny Lee Miller's Sherlock Holmes with a woman resulted in fall's No. 1 new series, and inclusion in THR's 2012 Rule Breakers portfolio.

"It started out as something of a joke," creator Rob Doherty confesses of his decision to make the Watson in his Sherlock Holmes tale a woman. When he began to research the story's original characters, he came across a handful of experts who had written up psychological assessments of Sherlock; one of them had noted an aversion to women.

"I thought to myself, 'What would make Holmes crazier than taking the figurative rock he has in Watson and making him a woman?' I scribbled it down and then went back to my research," the 38-year-old Elementary showrunner continues. "The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to try it."

The result: casting Asian-American film star Lucy Liu as the first female Watson opposite Jonny Lee Miller's Sherlock and an impressive 13.9 million viewers tuning in weekly, making Elementary the No. 1 new series with total viewers this fall. (Among the key 18-to-49 set, the series ranks No. 2 behind only NBC's breakout Revolution.) And come February, the CBS drama -- one of the season's few hits with critics and audiences alike -- will get the coveted post-Super Bowl slot.
The show's stars, Liu, 44, and Miller, 40, still are making sense of the series' success, particularly rewarding because the show colors outside the lines in a way that excites both of them.

"To me, one of the best things you can do in this profession is to take a risk," says Miller, whose co-star plays sober coach to his recovering-addict Sherlock. Liu says the tweak in formula can liberate the story in other ways as well: "There's an endless supply of unpredictability that we can delve into and we can change and add. It will still be a pound cake, but it could be marble, it could be lemon, it could be poppy seed."

20 Things to Know from the AVENGERS Screening and Q&A with Joss Whedon, Who Teases Another Hero and

Although it opened back in May, Joss Whedon’s The Avengers helped us bring our year to a close with a screening at the Hollywood DGA. Also in attendance was none other than Whedon himself, who participated in a Q&A after the screening. I’m happy to report that The Avengers still holds up after the hype has died down, but what you’re really interested in is what Whedon had to say. He talked about missed opportunities for his hit TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, revealed some of the characters and footage he had to leave out of The Avengers (including a tease about another villain who we may see in a future film) and comments on his overall writing process.

The screening of The Avengers and Q&A with Whedon was hosted and moderated by Jeff Goldsmith of Backstory Magazine. You can check out the full interview by selecting  The Q&A With Jeff Goldsmith on iTunes. Whedon’s quotes and comments follow below:

One Direction's "Take Me Home" Crosses 1M Mark in U.S. Sales

One Direction’s Take Me Home tops the 1 million mark in U.S. sales this week. It’s the boy band’s second album to sell 1 million copies this year. Up All Night is up to 1,505,000. One Direction is the first act to sell 1 million copies of two different albums in a calendar year since 2009, when Michael Jackson (who died that year) did it with four albums and Miley Cyrus (then at the peak of her career) did it with two. One Direction is the first group or duo to achieve this feat since Rascal Flatts in 2007.

Take Me Home reached the 1M threshold in just five weeks, compared to 19 weeks for Up All Night. Just nine albums that have sold 1 million copies so far in 2012, which makes One Direction’s achievement all the more impressive. Take Me Home holds at #4 for the third week on The Billboard 200.

Angelina Jolie to direct her second feature film, WWII drama 'Unbroken'

The film is an adaptation of the 2010 book by Laura Hillenbrand (Seabiscuit: An American Legend) and tells the story of Olympic athlete and Air Force officer Louis Zamperini, who survived a plane crash during World War II and clung to life on a raft for 47 days. He was captured by the Japanese and served hard time in a POW camp. Hillenbrand’s book spent 108 on the New York Times best-seller list, including 14 weeks at No. 1.

“I read Laura Hillenbrand’s brilliant book, and I was so moved by Louie Zamperini’s heroic story, I immediately began to fight for the opportunity to make this film,” Jolie said in a statement. “Louie is a true hero and a man of immense humanity, faith and courage. I am deeply honored to have the chance to tell his inspiring story.” The news was announced by Universal Pictures chairman Adam Fogelson and co-chairman Donna Langley and Walden Media CEO Michael Bostick. “In her life and in her work, Angelina has embraced stories and causes involving great struggle and triumph over tremendous odds and the basic human condition,” said Fogelson and Langley in a joint statement. “She has a real ability to illustrate the strength in human spirit which will be essential in telling Lou’s story of survival and great heroism.”

The latest draft of the script was written by William Nicholson (Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Gladiator, Les Miserables), with an earlier draft having been written by Richard LaGravenese. Matthew Baer and Erwin Stoff are producing with Mick Garris serving as executive producer.
Jolie made her directorial debut with 2011’s In the Land of Blood and Honey. This would be her first time helming a film for a major studio. Jolie is represented by UTA for directing and attorney Robert Offer. Nicholson is represented by CAA and in the U.K. by The Agency. His attorney is Alan Wertheimer.

The most successful X-Factor winner EVER runs his mouth again

In our heads, James Arthur and Matt Cardle are sort of the same person. So we quite liked the idea of them making friends and hanging out together. Just so that we could play Spot The Difference.

Unfortunately, that doesn't appear to be something that's going to happen any time soon. Because James managed to really annoy Matt when he said: "the blokes that have won before have had a niche, they haven't sold records because they haven't made great albums. That's the bottom line."

And now Matt wants everybody to know that James is wrong.

Like The WB and Disney, Fox Plans On Expanding (and Retooling) Their Comic Book Movie Universe

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Despite a few solid hits, Fox's comic book movies have not been particularly well received by fans OR critics over the years. However, it now appears as if they are finally on the right track, hiring Mark Millar as a Creative Consultant and directors like Bryan Singer and Josh Trank to helm X-Men: Days of Future Past and The Fantastic Four respectively.

Talking to Screen Rant, The Wolverine's screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie had this to say about his desire to make Fox's universe a far more cohesive place. Unfortunately, it sounds as if his suggestions have so far fallen on deaf ears...

"You know, Bryan and I have talked about it a bunch of times – and in fact, right after I got back from shooting [Jack Reacher] I had a meeting with Tom Rothman – just a general meeting – and I said to Tom, ‘You know what I’d really love to do, is I’d really love to flesh out the X-Men Universe for you. You have this great wealth of these Marvel characters, and the X-Men franchise has only focused on a small handful of them – there’s many more.'"

"And I thought that it’d be really cool to create a ‘bible’ – you know, a series of outlines of interlocking movies where you could do kind of what they did with ‘The Avengers,’ where you’re creating multiple movies that could come together as one movie here and there. And… you know… I never heard back [laughs]. But that would kinda be fun – to do something like that – where you could kind of become the curator for something like that."

Oscarwatch: Weighing the awards so far

Lots of major developments this past week – on December 12th the Screen Actors Guild announced its nominations, followed by the Golden Globe awards the next day, and both served a purpose by starting to outline possible nominees more clearly (with great news for team Lincoln, not so great for Tom Hooper and The Master in general). We should keep in mind that while the SAG awards usually serve as a thermometer for the Oscar race, with mostly overlapping nominees, there’s always room for a few changes: a few people that showed up here in past years ended up losing steam before the Oscars, and a few of the smaller performances ignored by the nomination committee got picked up again by the big prize. There is one thing that should be mentioned about these nominations though: since its creation, the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture has been a pretty solid precursor to the eventual Oscar Best Picture winner – with the exception of the first year that award was given (when BP winner Braveheart missed out on a nomination at the SAGs), all of the following Oscar winners were at least nominated in the Outstanding Cast category at the SAGs – so does the omission of assumed frontrunner Zero Dark Thirty means its chances at a win are not as strong as pundits had been claiming? Maybe, and while some quickly tried explaining away the oversight by noting that most guild members hadn’t yet seen the movie, as screeners were not sent out, leading lady Jessica Chastain still managed to score a nom, proving that word of mouth apparently is a lot stronger on her than on the movie itself. As for the Globes, they’ve never been a true precursor, and their value is similar to critics awards in the grand scheme of things – they provide some nice visibility, a boost to a few campaigns, a fun party that gives us lots of gifs, but not much else. And now, for all of you fond of following every critics awards on earth, here’s a great list, tracking and detailing all of the groups already announced, and all of the winners so far.

This Monday also saw the beginning of voting, with ballots being sent out to AMPAS members. Ballots are due back by January 3rd at the most, making this a pretty short window for people to get updated on the movies they missed out on throughout the year. Here is the massive list of 282 movies eligible for this year’s Oscar.

So let’s discuss the Documentary Shortlist, take a look at the swag movies are giving away and check the updated predictions below. Coming later today, we’ll take a look at a comprehensive list of movies competing in the Foreign Film category.

Judd Apatow I Wrote Child Murder Jokes YEARS AGO Before School Shooting For 'This Is 40'

Judd Apatow meant no harm in his script for "This Is 40" when one of the characters jokingly plays a "murder game" with his kids. Judd tells us, he wrote the script 2 years ago, long before the Connecticut tragedy.

The scene in question involves the Albert Brooks' character, who is broke and looking for ways to save money. The character, Larry, prepares to spray his triplets with a hose and says, "Line up! Line up for murder! Come on! Who wants to be killed?"

One of the kids screams, "I do!" Larry responds, "Okay, we're eliminating one, we're cheaper already," and then Larry sprays the child.

The next kid says, "Murder me!" Larry responds, "Boom, dead. You're dead," adding, "All right, the kids are murdered. That will save us some money."

Judd tells us, the scene "is spoken by a sarcastic father kidding with his children. In light of recent events, I understand if some people might make an unfortunate association or put it in a context in which it was not intended."

We've learned the scene is staying in the movie, which opens Friday.

Time's Coolest Person of the Year - Lena Dunham

The 2012 Coolest Person of the Year is a woman who was unafraid to showcase her flaws. A woman who wore less makeup on TV than in real life and purposely shot herself naked in more unflattering ways than a blackmailer would. A woman whose entire persona is based on doing the wrong thing yet who reportedly got a $3.7 million advance for an advice book. A woman who made an Obama campaign video centering on a double entendre about losing her virginity to the President. A woman who was nominated for four Emmys and, far cooler, zero People’s Choice Awards. A woman who responded to 2010 Coolest Person James Franco’s harsh Huffington Post essay criticizing Girls, the HBO show she created and stars in, by saying she’s a big James Franco fan.

Lena Dunham might lack swagger and mystery. But she ushers in a second-generation cool for the oversharing era. “She doesn’t care what you think of her,” says Judd Apatow, an executive producer of Girls. “O.K., she does care. A lot. But she won’t change who she is to please you.” And she tempers her uncool puppy-dog eagerness with an insouciance that comes from knowing you will never, ever be as traditionally cool as your avant-garde New York City artist parents.

Unlike past Coolest winners who chose either not to talk about it (2011’s Ryan Gosling) or to say cool, cryptic things about it like “I invest my emotions into how well I think the things have been rendered” (2010’s Franco), Dunham didn’t hide her excitement. She emailed, “Wow, that is—for lack of a better word—really cool. What an honor. Will I get in any Web trouble for being genuinely, unsnarkily excited to be the first woman to win Joel Stein’s Coolest Person of the Year?”

Yes, Lena, you will. But you will do it anyway, on Twitter and hopefully in an even larger public forum, like Letterman or a magazine cover profile. Because—just like the many other women who have been considered not funny enough, not tough enough, not Supreme Court–y enough, not Augustay enough or not capable of following the complicated no-turn-on-red laws of Saudi Arabia enough—you have broken a barrier. And the only way you can help more women do the same is to keep talking about this honor and, more important, the cool guy who bestowed it upon you.

Pitch Perfect 2 in the Works; Rebel Wilson to Return! (Skylar Astin in this post as well)

This past October saw the release of Universal Picture's Pitch Perfect, a musical comedy centering around collegiate Acapella groups. While the film took in a modest $63.9 million at the box office, it wasn't one of the biggest monetary hits of the year. But it proved to be one of the more original movies released in 2012, and has quickly gained a huge fan following, making it one of the few true cult films in recent memory. That cult is sure to grow even bigger as the film hits Blu-ray and DVD this week.

It makes sense that Universal would want a sequel, and possibly a franchise. We might have to wait and see how well the home video release does before we hear any official word on Pitch Perfect 2, but we recently talked with Skylar Astin about the possibilities for a sequel, and he revealed that he and star Rebel Wilson are in talks with Universal about a follow-up.

"I do have a meeting with a Universal representative next week. And I know that Rebel Wilson had hers last weekend. It's definitely a talking point."

MTV Renews 'Catfish' Reality Series for Second Season

MTV has ordered another season of Catfish: The TV Show.

The reality series, which is a spinoff of the similarly-themed 2010 feature, follows a small documentary crew as they help individuals determine if the people they've met online are really who they claim to be. It stars Nev Schulman (from the Catfish film) and filmmaker Max Joseph.

Catfish: The TV Show has truly captured the zeitgeist of the digital dating age,” said MTV Muiltiplatform EVP Dave Sirulnick at the time of the renewal. “The show has resonated with our audience by portraying the real life journeys of individuals trying to navigate the highs and lows of online dating -- an experience our viewers can relate to.  We are thrilled to bring the show back for a second season, and look forward to the fascinating stories that only Nev and Max can uncover."

Since premiering on Nov. 12, the RelativityREAL-produced show has performed very well for the network on Monday nights. Its 11 p.m. series premiere was the network's highest-rated ever for the hour, and subsequent airings at 10 p.m. have regularly ranked among cable's top 5 Monday shows in the key adults 18-49 demo.

The most recent episode pulled a 1.3 rating in the adults 18-49 demo and 2.07 million viewers. Performing especially well in persons 12-34, the show's current series average is jumping from a 2.4 rating to a 3.1 rating (a 29 percent increase) when Live+3 Day viewing is taken into account.

Catfish, still in its freshman run, airs its next new episode after the holidays on Jan. 7. At the time of the pickup, there was no news of an episode count for season two.

Jahmene Douglas Follows Union J & Ella Henderson Signing Sony Record Contract

Jahmene Douglas has become the latest X Factor contestant to sign a record contract with Sony just weeks after leaving the competition.

The powerhouse vocalist, who finished second behind James Arthur who was crowned the winner of the series last Sunday, now joins former X Factor contestants Ella Henderson and Union J who have also inked a deal with the record label this week.

After announcing the news this morning on Lorraine, Jahmene also took to his Twitter to share the news.
"Just announced on @reallorraine that I'm now signed to SONY. God is good thank you all for getting me to where I am ! #muchlove !" Jahmene tweeted this morning.
He added: "Eeek .. My excitement always takes time to kick in :-p but I think it's slowly slipping in just what's in store for me :-)"
The news comes just days after it was announced that 16-year-old Ella Henderson and boy band Union J have also signed deals with Sony, serving as competition for the show's winner James Arthur.
James has already experienced an incredible amount of success with his winner's single 'Impossible' becoming the fastest-selling single of the year after shifing almost 500,000 copies in less than a week and being tipped to score this year's Christmas number one.

So many contestants from this season getting signed so quickly.  My feels.

Shaun White chops hair for charity

Shaun White looks just like any other guy now!

The snowboarding legend chopped off his instantly recognizable red hair for Locks of Love, an organization that provides hairpieces for children suffering from long-term hair loss.

White filmed the whole process and posted the video on YouTube.

"Been thinking about this one for a while," the Olympic gold medalist said on the way to a barber shop. "It's for a good cause, so I want to do it."

As if trying to convince himself, he added: "Somebody needs it more than I do."

Once in the hot seat, White told the barber, "I'm a little nervous, you have to go easy on me." He even jokingly told the barber to stop.
In the end, he seemed pleased with the results. "I like it," he said as he ran his fingers through his newly shorn hair. "It's good."

Jackie Chan Joins 'Expendables 3,' Eyes New Project With Chris Tucker

The Hong Kong star confirms his “more than a minor role” in the latest installment the Sylvester Stallone franchise, as he readies another action-comedy a week after describing the genre as one he “dislikes most.”

The next installment of The Expendables franchise will now take on a more distinct Chinese flavor, with Jackie Chan joining the Sylvester Stallone project in what the Hong Kong star described as a significant role.

"Sly had invited me to be in [The] Expendables 2 but I was too busy filming CZ12 and couldn't make a commitment to the film,” said Chan at a Kuala Lumpur press conference promoting Chinese Zodiac, according to Malaysian film portal Cinema Online. “But he did extend his invitation to the third movie, which I agreed on the condition that I will be appearing as more than just a minor role with a few scenes.”

Chan said he also suggested Stallone rework the new film into a more “buddy-buddy” movie to suit his own style – one that brought him much fortune in the Rush Hour franchise. Stallone is now refashioning the script to that effect. Production is expected to begin next year. While The Expendables 2 performed modestly this past summer at the U.S. box office, the film surpassed expectations with strong ticket sales in China during its September run, earning $53 million -- bettering The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man, which were released at around the same time.

Produced by Nu-Image and Millennium Films with investment from China’s Le Vision Pictures and directed by Simon West, The Expendables 2 saw Jet Li returning to a franchise in a small role, and also the presence of Yu Nan, the actress previously more well-known for her roles in arthouse fare – her most internationally prominent role is in Tuya’s Marriage, the Wang Quan’an movie which won the Berlin Film Festival’s top prize in 2007. It is not yet confirmed whether the pair will return for The Expendables 3.

Meanwhile, Chan also revealed he might soon be reunited with Chris Tucker in a buddy comedy along the lines of the three Rush Hour films they co-starred in.

The project is tentatively titled Skip Tracer, according to Chan. "The script is currently viewed by Chris Tucker," he said. "Personally, I feel that if he were to pick it up, it would be better if we turned it into Rush Hour 4 but I do think that three movies for the franchise is a perfect ending. It would be better to start a new buddy movie with someone new.”
Chan’s affection for the Rush Hour franchise represents an abrupt about-face for the actor, who was quoted last week as describing his past Hollywood films as vacuous, money-making exercises, and that Rush Hour he “dislikes most.”

2012 Black Reel Awards Nominations/NAACP Image awards voters take note.

The Foundation for the Advancement of African-Americans in Film (FAAAF) announced its nominees for the 13th Annual Black Reel Awards, Wednesday, catapulting a diverse group of films into the spotlight for Outstanding Motion Picture. The nominees for the top prize are Beasts of the Southern Wild, Django Unchained, Flight, The Intouchables and Middle of Nowhere, which earned a staggering nine nominations overall.

“This is one of the most eclectic groups of films we’ve seen in a very long time,” said Tim Gordon, president of the Black Reel Awards. “It was a really competitive year for Black films and our slate of nominees demonstrates that fact, from a mainstream studio pic in Flight to an edgy Tarantino Blaxploitation Western, to the tiny independent film that could in Beasts of the Southern Wild, the African-American vehicle Middle of Nowhere, and the French The Intouchables. It’s been a long time since a foreign film has cracked this list.”

The Black Reel Awards, comprised of more than 30 voters across the country, annually select and spotlight films and performances featuring African-Americans, as well as people of color throughout the African Diaspora. The 13th Annual Black Reel Awards winners will be announced on Blog Talk Radio, Thursday, February 7, 2013, in Washington, DC.

There are many more categories and nominees than could be listed above. The nominations for the 2013 Black Reel Awards:

"Lindsay Lohan" Gifted Over $200k Of Furniture To Appear On Show, Bailed After Receiving Freebies

Lindsay Lohan was gifted over $200k of furniture for the Beverly Hills house she has been renting, in exchange for agreeing to appear on Bravo's Million Dollar Decorators, however, after receiving her freebies, the embattled actress reportedly bailed on appearing!

According to the New York Post, Lohan approached Kathyrn Ireland, one of the hit show's famed decorators, at a New Year's Eve party last year and asked if she could appear in an episode.

PHOTOS: Lindsay Suffers Nip Slip On Set of Liz & Dick

"I didn't know who she was when I met her," Ireland told the Post. "It was only when she said to her sister, 'Wouldn't you love a mother like her?' that I thought 'How rude' and turned to someone and [asked who she was]."

Ireland said that when she arrived at Casa de Lohan with the film crew they were escorted into the actresses' bedroom and were shocked to find there was no furniture, except for a four poster bed!

According to Ireland, Lohan told her she wanted the bedroom to be "very princessey," and they established a decorating budget of $250k. However, after the goods were delivered and decorating completed, Lohan went AWOL!

Bravo confirmed that Lohan "was not available for the reveal shoot, but we were still able to capture the outcome, just like we do for many of the reveal episodes."

As previously reported, as well as a myriad of ever increasing legal woes, Lohan is also suffering financial hardship - so much so that the troubled 26-year-old has been complaining to friends that she is unable to afford to see a psychiatrist.

The Liz & Dick star is swimming in monstrous debt, including owing the IRS a whopping $233,000 for unpaid taxes between 2009 and 2010.

The first episode of Lohan's two part Million Dollar Decorators appearance airs on Bravo, January 1.

Josh Hutcherson to Star in 'Paradise Lost' + poses with J.Law's nephew and tumblr goes crazy

A note to those who were enthralled by the prospects of Bradley Cooper's once-developing Paradise Lost film adaptation: don't get too excited over this new announcement. Yes, Josh Hutcherson is in talks to star in a movie titled Paradise Lost, but it is not at all related to John Milton's classic epic poem. In fact, Deadline reports that Hutcherson is looking to take on a leading role in a biopic about drug kingpin Pablo Escobar... which still sounds pretty interesting, especially considering the fact that Benicio del Toro has been named as the potential star to take on the role of Escobar. has reached out to Hutcherson's reps to confirm his involvement, but they were not immediately available for comment.

Interestingly, instead of centering the attention on the infamous criminal himself, the story looks to follow Hutcherson's potential surfer character Nick, who takes up a romance with a young woman who turns out to be Escobar's daughter. This seems to suggest a stray from your usual biopic formula; instead, what we might see will more closely resemble the structure of narrative romantic drama. The sort of relationship shared between Escobar and Nick is as of yet unknown, but more often than not, when you date a known drug lord and murderer's daughter, you're in for something a bit more volatile than Meet the Parents. Although, this could very well work its way into a pretty good comedy premise...

The film will be the directorial debut of actor Andrea Di Stefano, who is also handling the script.

A new photo from behind-the-scenes of the Hawaii set of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is making the rounds online due to the overwhelming adorable factor it possesses.

The photo shows Josh Hutcherson, in costume for his role as Peeta Mellark, posing with a very young fan -- a fan who, according to FanPop, is actually Jennifer Lawrence's young nephew.

A bevy of photos from the set of Catching Fire overtook the Internet during the movie's first week filming in Hawaii, but the snapshots have since tapered off. Late last week, a few images of Hutcherson sporting a fake head wound surfaced, but otherwise, all has been quiet from the set of Catching Fire.

The movie is expected to wrap-up filming by the end of next week. It hits theaters November 22, 2013.

ICP watches Les Mis... or as they call the 'the miserable lez's"

Do you ever find yourself wondering what the Insane Clown Posse thinks of things like the Carly Rae Jepsen tune "Call Me Maybe" or Psy's "Gangnam Style"? Well, FuseTV has put clown-faced duo of Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope between you and the screen MST3K-style to watch them watching things. Below is video of ICP watching the trailer for Les Miserables, which they probably won't be seeing, since it's French and a musical. That's disappointing because on the film's casting of Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman, Shaggy 2 Dope said, "It's like Gladiator vs. Wolverine! What a great battle!"

KIIS-FM pulls 'Pumped Up Kicks' from its rotation

Foster the People's hit song "Pumped Up Kicks" -- whose lyrics depict a violent school shooting -- won't be getting ANY airplay whatsoever in the wake of the Newtown massacre... at least on L.A.'s #1 hit music station.

Sources at KIIS-FM tell TMZ, the station has completely pulled "Pumped Up Kicks" from its rotation after the shooting at a Connecticut elementary school last week.

Foster the People frontman Mark Foster has said the song was written about a psychotic, homicidal youth to help bring awareness to gun violence in schools -- and was partly inspired by the Columbine tragedy.

Here's the song's chorus -- All the other kids with the pumped up kicks, / You better run, better run, outrun my gun. / All the other kids with the pumped up kicks, / You better run, better run, faster than my bullet.

As we reported, Ke$ha's song "Die Young" has also plummeted from the charts due to its inopportune lyrics.

Our sources say KIIS-FM hasn't yet made a decision about yanking "Die Young" entirely -- but "Pumped Up Kicks" is definitely off the air for the foreseeable future.

Ben Affleck Drops Out of 'Focus'

With an increasingly busy schedule, Ben Affleck has fallen out of Warner Bros.' "Focus."

Sources close to Affleck tell Variety that while the actor very much wanted to do the film, the timing just couldn't be worked out.

The pic also stars Kristen Stewart, with "Crazy Stupid Love" helmers Glenn Ficarra and John Requa directing from their own script.

Story follows a veteran grifter who partners with a girl who's new to the life.

Affleck is focused on writing, directing, producing and staring in "Live by Night" and is also in development on "The Stand" and the untitled Whitey Bulger project. Add in all the award-season promoting he's been doing for "Argo," and insiders said an April start date on "Focus" just didn't look possible for Affleck.

Warners will now look for someone who can step in order to meet that spring start.

The WME-repped Affleck is taking a break from the biz today as he is in D.C. testifying before the House Armed Services Committee to provide an "update on the evolving security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo and implications for U.S. national security."

Selena Gomez eyes up One Direction romance with Niall Horan

Selena Gomez may have ended things for good with  Justin Bieber but this doesn’t mean she’s going to be sitting around crying over a broken heart.

Not when she could be romancing a member of One Direction.

According to, Selena Gomez has been eyeing up a romance with Niall Horan after seeing how much fun BFF Taylor Swift has been having with his One Direction bandmate Harry Styles.

A source told the website: “She has seen what has happened with her friend Taylor and how dating Harry is getting her to get over her relationship with Conor.

"Selena has said that she wants to start dating someone else to see if there is something better out there.

“[We] wouldn’t be surprised if Selena had a double date with Taylor and any of the single One Direction kids if she doesn’t get back with Justin.”

If we remember correctly, all bar one of the One Direction boys are currently in a relationship which means that Niall is the lucky boy Selena has her eye on.

So potentially we could have a festive romance on the cards.

Remember Selena, a One Direction boyfriend is for life, not just for Christmas.

However, the source continued that there is still a chance that Selena Gomez could be getting back together with her ex Justin.

The pair apparently go through the same routine every time they have a break up.

The source explained: "[Justin] cries over the phone. She takes him back again.

“Don’t underestimate the power of the holiday season.

I hope I did it right this time around.
