The October issue of Kadokawa's Young Ace magazine is announcing on Tuesday that a manga adaptation of BBC's Sherlock television series will debut in the next issue on October 4. The manga artist "Jay." is launching the manga with an adaptation of "Study in Pink," the show's first episode which was scripted by Doctor Who writers Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss.
The BBC series takes Arthur Conan Doyle's brilliant yet idiosyncratic detective and re-imagines him in modern-day London. Benedict Cumberbatch (Atonement, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, 2013 Star Trek sequel) and Martin Freeman (The Office, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Hobbit) star as Sherlock and his friend Dr. Watson, respectively. There have been two seasons of three 90-minute episodes, with plans for a third season.
The iconic consulting detective has inspired several earlier manga and anime, including a youthful version in Sherlock Holmes whispers to the shadow and a canine reincarnation co-directed by Hayao Miyazaki in Sherlock Hound. Cumberbatch himself discussed all the boys-love dōjinshi manga and fan fiction that his character's relationship with Watson has inspired.
I didn't realize the show was a big hit in Japan... or at least a big enough hit to get a manga adaptation. Anyway I'm surprised they didn't pretty Martin up more!
Justin Bieber's hindsight is probably 20/20 on this one.
In a photo taken by an actor on the set of Selena Gomez's upcoming flick Feed the Dog, the Biebs was snapped posing with a fake gun and pointing it at the actor's dad.
And Gomez was right there for the photo op, smiling in the pic.
After the photos were posted to the Twitter account @HechosSMGomez, the "Girlfriend" crooner received a slew of criticism for the gun pose-off, with folks around the web saying the snaps were "irresponsible," among other things, in light of the recent mass shootings at the Empire State Building and the Dark Knight Rises screening in Colorado.
"Guns are on everyone's mind as a serious crisis in Canada and the United States. Everyone, that is, except maybe Justin Bieber," a writer from Canada's Globe and Mail wrote.
"Justin, whether you like it or not, you're a role model. And millions of fans, 27 million on Twitter, are following your every move. You have power in this industry, and holding a gun in jest is just plain foolish," a writer at Hollywood Life declared.
Reps for Bieber have not yet responded to requests for comment

Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch had a frightening near-death experience on the set of his new TV drama Parade's End.
Worried crew members thought the actor had been blown up when a stunt went wrong during shooting in Belgium.
'We were filming this dream sequence which involved an explosion,' says Benedict, 36.
'It just went off in my face. I was engulfed in flames. I was very, very lucky - I just got singed eyebrows, eyelashes and hair.
'It was terrifying. The [film] unit were looking on going: "F*ck! He's a goner." It was really scary.'

Sadly, they don't feature Maggie Grace (running), who gets more action this time round as her screen father Liam Neeson battles to save her kidnapped mother (Famke Janssen).
However, there are plenty of shots of Neeson in action as Bryan Mills, reprising the role that established the actor as an action hero not to be trifled with. Set in Istanbul, the family are hunted down by Murad (Rade Serbedzija), leader of the criminals who were unfortunate to be on the other end of Mills' fists last time.

The Syfy series Haven, loosely based on the Stephen King short-story “The Colorado Kid”, will be back starting on September 21 and will include among its upcoming guest stars actress Laura Vandervoort, best known for her role as Kara on the long-running WB/CW series ‘Smallville’.
According to TV Line, Vandervoort will appear in two episode – the 12th and 13th to be exact – playing a “highly intelligent and beautiful woman who as returned to the town of Haven for the latest cycle of Trouble”. But, sadly, her visit will not be a happy one as she is “driven to the brink of madness by the loss of a loved one”. What kind of trouble (literally) will that bring the town, right?

WWE Superstar Edge Returning to Syfy’s Haven as a Recurring Guest Star
It's been awhile since we've mentioned Syfy's hit series "Haven," but this latest news was just too juicy to ignore. WWE Superstar Edge is returning to the show and will appear in multiple episodes of the show’s third season including the premiere, September 21st at 10PM ET/PT.
From the Press Release:
Edge (aka Adam Copeland) will reprise his role of Dwight Hendrickson, a shrewd, longtime Haven resident and “troubled” handyman who can truly handle anything, and often does, as the town’s “cleaner.” A close ally of Nathan’s (Lucas Bryant), Dwight helps to cover up all of the town’s supernatural goings on and to keep Haven’s secrets hidden.
Season Three of "Haven" picks up immediately following the events of the gripping Season Two finale with Audrey (Emily Rose) having been brutally kidnapped, Nathan warned against pursuing a romantic relationship with Audrey, and Duke (Eric Balfour) seemingly engaged in a fight to the death with Nathan after he discovers his family lineage is to kill Haven citizens with troubles.

In an exclusive statement to The Advocate, music legend Stevie Wonder apologizes for a previous comment that implied Frank Ocean might be confused about his sexual orientation, saying, "love is love, between a man and a woman, a woman and a man, a woman and a woman and a man and a man."
In an interview with the U.K. paper The Guardian, Wonder was asked about the media sensation caused by Ocean, the out hip-hop performer whose acclaimed hit album Channel Orange has drawn numerous comparisons with the veteran musician. "I think honestly, some people who think they're gay, they're confused," Wonder said to the paper. "People can misconstrue closeness for love. People can feel connected, they bond. I'm not saying all [gay people are confused]. Some people have a desire to be with the same sex. But that's them."
Wonder now clarifies his comment with an exclusive statement to The Advocate, saying, "I’m sorry that my words about anyone feeling confused about their love were misunderstood. No one has been a greater advocate for the power of love in this world than I; both in my life and in my music. Clearly, love is love, between a man and a woman, a woman and a man, a woman and a woman and a man and a man. What I’m not confused about is the world needing much more love, no hate, no prejudice, no bigotry and more unity, peace and understanding. Period."

It's a simple concept, inviting people to demonstrate a little extra kindness on a daily basis, whether that means offering to carry groceries for a stranger or paying for a friend to take a much-needed vacation when they can't afford a break. Though the loyal fans of "Supernatural" were quick to embrace Collins' philanthropic vision (and seem to have grown closer to each other and the show as a result), it's even more inspiring to see those who might never have heard of the CW series being touched by the project.
"I actually think that the most efficacious way of making a difference is to lead by example, and doing random acts of kindness is setting a very good example of how to behave in the world," Collins told me, back when Random Acts was still in its formative stages. "While it seems small, it can ultimately be somewhat profound in various people's lives. I know that when people have perpetrated such acts against me, it has had a lasting effect on me, so I like to return the favor."
Since one of Random Acts' main goals is to inspire and empower others to commit good deeds, it's only fitting that a like-minded company wanted to pay it forward; MacDonald Motorsports has donated ad space on their NASCAR racecar to Random Acts for the NRA American Warrior 300 race in Atlanta this Saturday, September 1. The race will air live on ESPN2 at 6:30 p.m. ET.

Little Mix wear the losing designs on
executive producer Rihanna's TV show Styled to Rock
Little Mix made a guest appearance on Episode 3 of Styled To Rock this week and challenged the designers to make them outfits that reflect their individual style for a photo shoot.
In the show, aspiring fashion designers compete for the chance to make an outfit for Rihanna, which the singer will wear for a headline set at the Wireless Festival in Hyde Park. Each week, the contestants design attire for different music stars who pick their favourite, and whoever fails to impress faces elimination by the show's mentors - designer Henry Holland, Girls Aloud's Nicola Roberts and Rihanna's personal stylist Lysa Cooper.
Guest stars include Katy Perry, Cheryl Cole, Rizzle Kicks, Little Mix, Pixie Lott, The Scissor Sisters, Tinchy Stryder, Little Boots & Rihanna.
Animal rights group PETA have launched an attack against Lady Gaga and Rihanna, describing the pop pair as "freaks" who are "being laughed at".
Despite being praised in the past by the organisation for her ant-fur stance, PETA branded Gaga a "turncoat" last month (August 15) after she was seen sporting a number of fur coats in public. Rihanna, meanwhile, has been targeted by the group before after she wore a top made from ostrich feathers and was accused of exploiting animals for "her dubious looks".
Now, after the 'Talk That Talk' star was observed wearing snakeskin books, PETA told the Daily Express that her decision was "creepy". "Rihanna may not have a clue that snakes killed for boots are often nailed to a tree and skinned alive. Of course, they can't go on Oprah to cry about it," they said.

You probably know Jonathan Banks best as Mike Ehrmantraut, the cool and collected professional “fixer” on AMC’s Breaking Bad, but, as we’ve just discovered from this 1974 PSA entitled Linda’s Film on Menstruation, he also makes a quite effective teenage doofus. In this highly educational short film, Banks plays the boyfriend of the titular Linda, who needs a little help understanding exactly what Linda means when she tells him that blood is flowing out of her uterus. Skip to 1:10 if you’re anxious to see Banks, but we got a giggle out of watching the entire thing. And hey, if you’re particularly uninformed (just like Mike), you might even learn something.
The moment she steps on to the screen in the title role of Joe Wright's Anna Karenina – her face exuding absolute self-possession – Keira Knightley demands that we think of her in a new light. At 27 years old, already a decade into her career as a leading actress, she has shed the awkwardness of youth and embodies with elegant aplomb one of the most celebrated and complex female characters in world literature.
'I do feel more comfortable in my skin,' she tells me when we meet in the lounge of a hotel in New York, where she is midway through shooting her next film. 'And, as a performer, I feel more comfortable in my ability to tap into a stock of emotions. I go back to when I was very young and doing big films, and I can see that of course I was never going to be able to understand everything I was playing on a level that I could now. As life goes on you pick up wounds, and for an actor it's terribly important to have those wounds to draw on.'
In the flesh, dressed in a brown silk dress and sandals, with her hair tied back in a ponytail and wearing barely a scrap of make-up, Knightley looks every bit as beautiful and unblemished as she does on screen. When I ask what her wounds might be, she describes them, somewhat reticently, as 'just normal ones: failed relationships or disappointments or anything that human beings can pick up as they go along.'

It seems like the Lifetime movie network is producing more original black movies (or movies with black people in starring roles) than any other TV (broadcast or cable) network right now; there's the all-black cast remake of Steel Magnolias; the recent acquisition of Terry McMillan’s A Day Late And A Dollar Short which the network plans to adapt; the Mary J. Blige/Angela Bassett project which centers on the relationship between Betty Shabazz and Coretta Scott King called Parallel Lives; there's Abducted: The Carlina White Story, which stars Aunjanue Ellis, Keke Palmer, and Sherri Shepherd; and also there was Taraji P. Henson In Taken From Me: The Tiffany Rubin Story last year; and now this one: another original movie titled A Narrow Bridge, starring Toni Braxton.
Toni actually revealed that she'd be filming a Lifetime movie with her son, via her twitter account, in June, but wouldn't give any further details on the project, when poked by her followers.
The film will be called A Narrow Bridge (apparently, it was once called A Moment In Time, according to the information I have), and it will star Braxton and David Julian Hirsh (Weeds, Hawthorne), in a movie about a Christian, African American woman who falls in love with a Jewish, Caucasian man.
Of course there'll be some conflict; there wouldn't be a movie otherwise.
Her 9-year-old son Diezel plays her son in the movie as well, which was scheduled to begin shooting this month, for a February 2013 broadcast.
Braxton, who first entered the world of feature filmmaking in Kingdom Come (2001), currently appears as Rosalie Rosebud in the family film, The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure, released this week.
Scheduled to begin shooting in mid-September, Cuba Gooding Jr. will star in Something Whispered, for Monolith Pictures, with Peter Cousens directing from a script penned by Tim Chey.
Set in 1850, the story centers on a man named Samuel, who attempts to free his family from the brutality of institutionalized slavery, intent on escaping from the tobacco plantation they have been forced to call their home for two generations. Heading north towards Canada, via that network of secret routes and safe houses used by slaves in 19th century USA (aka the Underground Railroad), they are tracked by a group of ruthless hired slave hunters, who constantly threaten Samuel and his family's survival.
The project is currently casting.
Cuba has done lots of direct-to-video work in recent years, so I'd guess that this is likely headed down a similar path.
Look for him on the big screen in 2 upcoming feature films - Robert Rodriguez's Machete Kills and Lee Daniels' The Butler.
How much do you want to bet that there is going to be a nice white man that would help him through his journey? Because if there is one thing hollywood has made certain, black people can be slaves, they can be maids, but, they can't be heroes in their own films. The script is being written by Tim Chey who is Asian American....will be interesting to see how this turns out.
Krista Smith: What was it like reading Joan Didion’s Slouching Towards Bethlehem aloud?
Diane Keaton: For me, talking out loud—that’s what I do. I use other people’s words, and I speak their words. I loved being able to do that because it gave me a whole different slant on it. I like to hear myself say the words, and then I feel more intimate with the words. She’s such a great writer. The things that she talks about in her books, particularly in Slouching Towards Bethlehem, are very powerful. She talks about self-respect.
I read this one paragraph:
“To live without self-respect is to lie awake some night, beyond the reach of warm milk, the Phenobarbital, (that’s how long ago it was) and the sleeping hand on the coverlet, counting up the sins of commissions and omission, the trusts betrayed, the promises subtly broken, the gifts irrevocably wasted through sloth or cowardice, or carelessness. However long we postpone it, we eventually lie down alone in that notoriously uncomfortable bed, the one we make ourselves. Whether or not we sleep in it depends, of course, on whether or not we respect ourselves.”

So Amanda Brunker's quest to nab Azealia Banks' cancelled Electric Picnic spot didn't quite go to plan. I'm surprised, she played a blinder filling Jessie J's shoes at Oxegen last year, and herself and Azealia share the same initials and everything.
It all kicked off on twitter, as everyone has a set of massive balls on the internet, with Amanda quoting Banks' lyrics for 212. When she realised her audition was falling on deaf ears, she gave up saying "I'm not black enough to tease the rest of the lyrics… Gotta love it though :)"
To which Azealia replied: "'Black enough?' Wow. How ignorant." This sent Brunker babbling, as you can see from the below tweets. She then tried to get Azealia to follow her so she could PM her, a request which appears to have been denied given Brunker's subsequent lone post of "please" followed by "Can peace, love and understanding please return to the Twitterverse? Thank you in advance x."

I never post about her twitter feuds because I usually don't care and her resident haters always post first. This is just another time when Azealia had every right to say something.

"It wasn't romantic, just fun," Reichert is quoted as telling the U.K. Mirror. "He was so wasted, the alcohol affected him. I was there for 15 to 20 minutes."
According to the write-up based on her interview, Reichert, a San Diego, Calif., beautician, was personally selected along with nine other young women to join the party before the third in line to the throne, 27, personally picked her to be alone with him.
"We kissed, he was naked at the time, and pretty open," she is reported as saying. The story also says she first saw the prince earlier in the evening at the pool of their hotel, the Encore at Wynn.
"I was born in England and I'm pretty familiar with the royal family, but I didn't know the guys he was with," the Mirror quotes her as saying. "I was the only one who knew who he was. Everybody else was like, 'Who's that?' And I'm like, 'Oh my God, that's Prince Harry.' "
She says that later a member of the prince's entourage approached her to see if she'd like to join the penthouse party. "I'm not going to pass an opportunity to party with Prince Harry," she recalls as her response to what she termed a "random" invitation.
With the alcohol flowing and the party in full swing, there was no security check, she said.
"Harry was already undressed. It was just crazy. He looked actually delirious. There was a pool table and he was playing air guitar with pool sticks," she said. "He was screaming out, 'Somebody get me a glove! I'm going to do a Michael Jackson impression!' "
She described him as giving "random naked hugs" and being "really friendly."
The woman seen clutching and being clutched by Harry in the photos "was kind of shy and very timid," according to Reichert. "I didn't catch her name as we were all drinking. She was an American girl. She was very slender, really cute and pretty, kind of shy and she also seemed really drunk."
The scene, she said, "was not like an orgy going on, it was just sexy naked. It was like almost a game. He was trying to get everybody to get naked. That was the whole point of him being naked."
Of her own interaction with Harry, Reichert said, "We kissed for 15 to 20 minutes. … We kissed again and he said, 'That was great.' "
As for how it ended, "He told me I was beautiful and gorgeous, which was sweet," she said. "Then we kind of nonchalantly returned to the party and kept drinking."
Lying low since the incident, Harry has been defended by the Palace for his behavior.
"He didn't do anything unlawful," a Palace source tells PEOPLE in this week's cover story. "What he did was entirely his own business."
I don't think that girl in the pic is the one in the interview but the pic amuses me.

Pre-production of Motor City, which is set to star Gerard Butler and Adrien Brody, has been halted. The crew of the Albert Hughes revenge thriller was sent home today after its financial backers — Emmett/Furla Films, Envision Entertainment, and Mark Damon’s Foresight Entertainment — determined that they could not meet the "drop dead" release date set by the studio, Warner Bros., and would therefore not be able to secure a bond for the film.
In a statement, a spokesperson explained:
Faced with the realities of a very short post-production schedule and complicated visual and special effects, the producers have decided to push back production on Albert Hughes’ Motor City. We are dedicated to delivering top-tier productions such as 2 Guns starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg which is currently in production and Peter Berg’s Lone Survivor which is in pre-production. The circumstances surrounding this project made it impossible to meet the firm March 31st delivery date without compromising the quality of the film."
It's not clear what this means for the future of Motor City, though Deadline's Nikki Finke reports that, "Insiders tell me they still want to make the picture."
