As promised, here is the recap of ‘The Walking Dead’ season 3 preview!
19 episodes of the series were aired through Saturday and Sunday with a 1 hour ‘Talking Dead‘ special. The Chris Hardwick hosted special had most of the teasers for the upcoming season. Several clips featuring the show’s actors describing their character’s mindset in the scene were sandwiched between commercial breaks during the marathon. Yes, I re-watched them all! The series pilot was also aired in black and white to capture that comic book feeling from whence the show’s premise came.( Collapse )
*Obligatory possible SPOILER ALERT*
Onto the special…
For the first part of the show, Glen Mazzara returned to the ‘Talking Dead’ couch along with Drew Carey. Apparently being a Z lister with nothing to do on a Sunday night qualifies you for the panel. He is a big fan of the show, but had little to offer in the way of insights and opinions. Robert Kirkman, Gale Ann Hurd and Dave Alpert also took a place on the show each revealing some detail. Sans Kirkman who prefers to toy with questions. Glen on the other hand was able to give out nuggets of information that will tempt your taste buds as if you weren’t already on edge for the October return.
*Merle Dixon will return and he might be more complex than just a pissed of red-neck. We have already had one teaser photo of his return. Click HERE
*Michonne is a BAMF. We already knew that, but her character is a mystery to those of us who haven’t read the comic book. (I have read a few of them, but I like the surprise element in the show, so I stopped.) A clip showing about 1 minute of the sword wielding character at work aired and my excitement about a woman who isn’t just surviving, but thriving in the zombie apocalypse grows. She easily takes out two walkers before grabbing some aspirin and slipping out of the drug store. Dania Gurira does a fantastic job conveying her demeanor.
*The two zombies she was toting around on chains as she saved Andrea are dubbed “pets” by Glen and Chris.
*Andrea, played by Laurie Holden, snuck offset to talk to Chris and reveal that her character and Michonne become friends and trade zombie survival tactics instead of diaper coupons.
*Mazzara once again refers to the “Ricktatorship” that will be the dynamic in season 3. This makes me sigh and give an approving FINALLY!
*The prison, which we were treated to a brief glimpse of during the season 2 finale, will become a sanctuary. It appears that the group will have to clear out the inmates turned walkers before it can be a safe haven. A tour through the set shows that small town facility has war wounds. Blood splatters pop up everywhere.
*Carl, played by Chandler Riggs, called into the show and was thrilled to share that his character will become a soldier and there will be no more hiding in the house. “He is growing up, he’s definitely not a kid anymore … no more crying or being told to get in the house. He’s more of a soldier now, he’s more a part of the group now.
” Whether or not he will continue disappearing while Laurie is off twisting Rick around her finger isn’t addressed. This kid makes me want to gobble birth control by the buckets.
*The Governor, who is probably the second most anticipated new character, will be a delicious mix of evil and narcissism. Glen described him as, “A guy who believes that this zombie apocalypse is all about him. That somewhere down the road history’s going to look back and there was one guy who kept the light on, who kept humanity going … he thinks he’s the messiah.
*David Alpert gives a kick in the stomach when he joins the panel in the second half of the show. A lot of the characters will die this season! “Honestly the thing that excites me most is that we’re gonna kill so many people this season … people that you care (about) and love and it’s going to be awesome.
” I dunno. Alpert seems way too jazzed about killing people, but I guess it comes with the territory.
If Daryl dies then I will snort in disgust, turn the tv off and rant for at least 3 days. He has to, at the very least, outlive Lori/Carl. His character seems promising as he was upgraded from a guest star to regular in season 2. Norman Reedus also confirmed that “love blooms” and I am guessing he is referring to Daryl. While Carol drives me nuts with her soft helplessness, I think she will capture Dixon’s heart, but part of me hopes it is an Andrea/Daryl hookup.
UPDATE: The clip of Michonne being a BAMF is at the source now! Will try to embed ASAP.
