Benedict Cumberbatch 'desperate for Sherlock to be US success'

Benedict Cumberbatch has admitted that he is "desperate" for Sherlock to be a hit in the US.

The actor argued that the BBC detective drama is only a "cult thing" in America, where it airs on PBS.

"I'm desperate for America to really take to this," he told The New York Times. "It has taken it into its heart as a cult thing, but I'd love it to hit the mainstream this time. Because I just think it's of that quality, and it belongs there."

Would You Want To Smell Like This?

It’s the geek equivalent of new car smell: That wave of plasticky aroma that strikes your nostrils as you unwrap a brand new computer. It’s the smell of a fresh start, of shiny and bright success — but would people react the same way to that scent on a person?

An Australian art collective called Greatest Hits has collaborated with a scent marketing company to bottle up the scent of a MacBook — and if they find a distributor, you could smell like an Apple product, too

“It smells like a mixture of ink, paper, foam, sticky tape and the Macbook with a hint of glue smell,” Air Aroma Sales Manager Alexandre Cosic told the blog Co.Design. “The scent is very subtle, just like when you would open the box.”

It’s a fairytale come true for Cameron fans: House grad Jennifer Morrison will make an appearance in the show’s rapidly-approaching series finale.

Although a Fox spokesperson declined to comment, TVLine has learned exclusively that the actress — who’s currently casting a spell on ABC’s Once Upon a Time — recently shot a cameo in the May 21 swan song.

Morrison, whose comeback was OK'd by current employer ABC, joins a growing list of Princeton-Plainsboro alums checking back in before the final curtain falls. As TVLine previously reported, Olivia Wilde (Thirteen), Amber Tamblyn (Masters) and Kal Penn (Kutner) are also set to appear in the episode, titled "Everybody Dies."

Morrison's doc was last seen in the Season 6 episode "Lockdown" when Cameron returned to finalize her divorce from Chase (Jesse Spencer), only to hook up with him one last time.

Artist Recreates Whitney Houston's Last Meal For NYC Exhibit

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Following Whitney Houston's death in February, photos of her last meal were published by TMZ. A table had been set up in Houston's hotel room where she was served a hamburger, fries, a turkey sandwich and jalepenos, along with champagne and Heineken. She later took some of that food on a tray into the bathroom, to presumably finish the meal in the bathtub where she would later die. Now the NY Times reports that this scene (which they describe as "gruesome") from the Beverly Hilton Hotel has been recreated by photographer Thomas Demand.

Demand says, "The proliferation of that kind of image at the time when she was not even in the coffin amazed me. It amazed me that it would ever have been released." So naturally, he felt the need to take it a step further. Artists! To recreate the scene, he headed to the Beverly Hilton and checked into a room with the same layout as the one Houston was staying in. He then ordered the same food.

His photograph of his recreated scene will be on display starting May 5th at the Matthew Marks Gallery (West 22nd Street in Chelsea). For now, a comparison of the scenes are above... seems like Demand got hungry and ate all the fries before taking his shot.

Howard Stern counsels Killa Karisma, teen who posted explicit video online

Howard Stern
may have a reputation as a jerk around adults, but listeners to his this morning's satellite radio show learned that he's a really good with kids.

The Howard Stern Show contacted the 17-year-old high school student who goes by the name Killa Karisma and convinced him to call in to Wednesday morning's show to talk about his YouTube hit "Jackin' Off to Yo' FB Pics". The song features Killa Karisma making "sexy" faces at the camera and singing lines about masturbating to pictures he finds of women on Facebook, including "lotion is my best friend" and "I gotta use both hands". The teen claims it was an attempt at "satire".

First, Stern took on the role of "cool guidance counselor" and gently asked KK about his home life, family life and circle of friends. After finding out that his dad was out of the picture, that KK had never even kissed a girl in real life, and that he had very few "human friends," Stern offered these words of wisdom:

“As your stand-in dad I’m telling you to think this through a little bit…Here’s my advice: Tell your mom. Talk it over with her. And then, as your dad…I’d say take it down, just because a lot of people might not get the joke, and, like, if you actually want to kiss real girls…”

Killa was defiant, explaining to Stern:

“I think a lot of girls just talk to me and like me just for the sheer fact that I have the confidence to do something like that."

“That’s why I think you’re not thinking clearly," replied Stern. "Women get freaked out by that kind of stuff.”

Then KK revealed some of the saddest, least self-aware statement of all, saying:

"A lot of people misunderstood the video and thought I was retarded."

Killa Karisma's song has racked up more than 100,000 hits on YouTube.

The song for y'all who are unaware. I'm probably going to be fired from my job because I haven't been able to stop singing this song to myself around the office all week.

Josh Dallas talks about being in love with Ginnifer Goodwin

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas aren't just costars in a modern-day take on Snow White – they're living a fairy tale in real life.

The Once Upon a Time stars, who met on the set of the ABC show, have been slowly going more public as a couple since the show premiered last fall, and are making an official debut of sorts at the White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington, D.C., this weekend.

"I think falling in love is always a surprise, right?" Dallas told PEOPLE at Thursday's Women in Media dinner hosted by the Creative Coalition in Washington, D.C., of meeting his girlfriend-to-be. "It hit me like a blinding light. I thought, 'I'm in trouble now.' "

The actor said he had never before fallen like that before, and he "would like to think she felt exactly the same way."

Stephen Colbert went in hard at the Time 100 gala

Time 100 gala: Stephen Colbert's best quips

Time's gala Tuesday night celebrated the movers and shakers named to its annual list of the 100 most influential people, but Stephen Colbert, a two-time honoree ("one more and we get a free hoagie!"), pricked some egos as unofficial roastmaster. Here are some of his more memorable lines:

On feminist icons:

Secretary [Hillary] Clinton was on the list for the seventh time. She had to leave earlier. Still is an honor to have met her. She's a feminist icon, a role model for so many women. Like the one young woman here tonight who bravely stepped into the media spotlight this year, and was immediately labeled a slut. I'm talking, of course, about Chelsea Handler. Chelsea, you handled that with such poise. The horrible, horrible things that were said about you, tramp, gutter skank, and a lot of those were you talking about yourself.

On Spanx founder Sara Blakely:

"But perhaps the most influential person on the list is here, Sara Blakely. The inventor of the Spanx. Give it up. No one, no one has done more to control women's bodies, except maybe Cardinal [Timothy] Dolan."

On Kristen Wiig:
"Her movie, "Bridesmaids," huge success, and proved once and for all to the Hollywood boys club that women can have explosive diarrhea, too."

On influential no-shows: "You know, it's actually a bit dangerous to have this many influential people in the room. What if something should happen? It would wipe out the world's supply of influence. That's why some members of the TIME 100 are not here tonight, we have sequestered Warren Buffett and Viola Davis and in an undisclosed location in case we need to repopulate the world with influentialness"

On after-party plans:
"According to TIME, we are also breakouts, and pioneers, moguls, and leaders. So remember, tonight, don't forget for mingle outside your category. Moguls, hook up with the pioneers, see if you can make a monguneer."

Update: On Twitter, Banks said, "They were all prematurely booked by my old management without any consideration for me and the album I need to finish!"

Teen Wolf Stars Talk Season Two

'Teen Wolf' Stars Tease Season Two

It was announced yesterday that Teen Wolf's second season would get a two-part premiere, kicking off on June 3 after the 2012 MTV Movie Awards and concluding in its regular time slot on June 4. And given just how many furry balls were left in the air at the end of season one, I caught up with stars Tyler Posey, Crystal Reed and Dylan O'Brien to find out what fans can expect when Beacon Hills High opens its doors again.

"Season two is 10,000 times better than the first season in every single way," Tyler told TheInsider.com yesterday at MTV's Upfront press junket. "Every episode has big moments of action or emotion -- I really think the fans are going to freak out."

And it sounds like Scott & Alison 'shippers will do a fair amount of freaking as well, since Crystal revealed that the two start off in a good place despite learning that her boyfriend is a werewolf and her family has been hunting them for centuries. "She's still very much in love with Scott but her dad intercepts them in the season premiere and says they can't ever see each other again," Crystal says, hinting at a major Romeo & Juliet vibe. "But eventually something really horrible happens and she takes a complete turn."

When I asked if this means she'll embrace the family business, Crystal smiled and said, "Absolutely. She starts to follow in her aunt's footsteps this season a lot, which is so much fun."

In the new music video for his song “Champagne Coast,” the singer Devonté Hynes of the band Blood Orange (and previously of the bands Lightspeed Champion and Test Icicles) stands idly in the background as an assortment of jerkily animated girls dance in place in each of their respective crudely rendered bedrooms. The dancing is reminiscent of so-bad-its-good 1990s video game animation. And the whole thing feels flat and Photoshopped — also in a good way, the perfect accompaniment to Hynes’s retro kitsch approach to catchy pop.

Celebrated Works of Art That Are Basically Fan Fiction

Among other criticisms that have been lobbied at the inexplicably popular erotic novel Fifty Shades of Gray, many have complained about the book’s origins; namely, that it was envisioned as an alternate reality Twilight fan fiction, and the author, E.L. James, merely replaced all the names of the characters in order to make it marketable.

Fan fiction gets an incredibly bad rap in the publishing and book-writing world; Anne Rice, George R.R. Martin, and Diana Gabaldon have all spoken out against potential fan fiction writers using their characters for their own stories. And “real life” fic, where writers create stories about their favorite celebrities (and often pair them together romantically), are even more vilified. We don’t get where all the hate comes from, though — sure, reading about members of One Direction making out with each other can get kind of creepy, but lots of your favorite books, movies, and even musicals are technically borrowed from other sources! Here’s a roundup of some of our favorites, as well as some we can’t believe exist at all — let us know what you think!

"I'm really oblivious to it, because I look so different," said Clarke, whose natural brunette hair color makes her look quite dissimilar from her character, the white-haired, royal exile Daenerys Targaryen. Still, people do occasionally recognize her: A woman in a department store in Los Angeles was too stunned to get on the elevator when she saw that Clarke was in it. "Khaleesi?" the fan asked.

Kristen Stewart to star in thriller 'Cali'

"Snow White and the Huntsman" star Kristen Stewart is set to topline "Cali," a gritty action pic set in Los Angeles that will be produced by Voltage Productions and New School Media.

Michael Diliberti ("30 Minutes or Less") wrote the script, which follows Mya (Stewart) and Chris, a pair of San Fernando Valley lovebirds with a penchant for bad choices and dangerous behavior. After selling a fake snuff film featuring Mya, they ride off into the sunset with a bundle of cash. Years later, Mya must "return from the dead" to save the younger sister she left behind in Cali, where the young couple contends with angry former business partners, homicidal porn stars, stoner vet techs, an unstoppable killing machine in a cowboy hat and their own contentious relationship.

Craig J. Flores ("300") and Zev Foreman ("Killer Joe") will produce for Voltage, while Diliberti will also produce. His manager, Brian Levy of New School Media, will exec produce with Voltage topper Nicolas Chartier ("The Hurt Locker") and Stewart, who will pick up her first producing credit on the project.

Diliberti developed the script on spec before it was acquired by Voltage, which attached Stewart. Producers are currently out to directors and they're anticipating a late summer start date.

"Kristen is a talented and dynamic actor, with a proven box office draw," said Flores. "Her role in 'Cali' will be edgy and sexy. It will no doubt push the envelope on the public's view of Kristen's wide-ranging abilities. Voltage is thrilled to have her as a partner on this fantastic film."

"Cali" marks a return to indie fare for Stewart, who has balanced the "Twilight" franchise pics like "Welcome to the Rileys," "The Runaways" and Walter Salles' upcoming adaptation of "On the Road." Thesp next stars in Universal's "Snow White and the Huntsman" and the final installment in "The Twilight Saga," which Summit will release on Nov. 16.

Diliberti is coming off the seven-figure spec sale to GK Films of comedy "Little White Corvette," which has Emma Stone attached to star. Scribe is also writing a Fox 2000 project for "Crazy, Stupid, Love" helmers John Requa and Glenn Ficarra that Simon Kinberg is producing, a Sony pic for Seth Gordon that Matt Tolmach is producing and a Warner Bros. movie for Todd Phillips with his Green Hat Films banner producing.

Voltage, which produced Kathryn Bigelow's Oscar winner "The Hurt Locker," is currently in pre-production on Shia LaBeouf-starrer "The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman" and post-production on Robert Redford's political action-thriller "The Company You Keep," which also stars LaBeouf.

Stewart is repped by Gersh and McKuin, Frankel and Whitehead, while WME and New School Media reps Diliberti.
