Adam Lambert: gay community resistant to gay male pop stars

Singer Adam Lambert has said that the gay community is resistant to celebrate gay male pop stars.

The 30-year-old Lambert made his remarks in a cover interview with gay glossy Instinct. “As a community, we're a little bit resistant to a gay male pop star ourselves,” Lambert said.

“It's very easy for people to look at my origin, which is American Idol, and automatically assume that I'm a commercial sellout or a puppet or a flash in the pan. I don't think I'm any of those things. There's something weird there,” he added, with a laugh. “We're very eager to celebrate a strong female. But to celebrate a fellow gay man – it gets catty sometimes.”

Jack White to Score 'The Lone Ranger'

Jack White has signed on to write, produce and perform the score for a forthcoming remake of The Lone Ranger by Walt Disney Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer Films. Though White has contributed music to other movies, most notably Cold Mountain, this will be his first experience scoring a feature film.

The Lone Ranger will be directed by Gore Verbinski and will star Armie Hammer – best known for his turn as both Winklevoss twins in The Social Network – as the title character, and Johnny Depp as his sidekick, Tonto.

Jerry Bruckheimer described the project as being like "The Odd Couple meeting The Wild Bunch" yesterday at CinemaCon, an annual convention for theater owners. "We're going to have a little rock & roll score, and I can't wait to hear his rendition of the 'William Tell Overture,'" Bruckheimer said of White's involvement.

Drake already discussing his 3rd album

Drake has promised that his next album will be more optimistic than its predecessor 'Take Care'.

The Canadian rapper admitted that his 2011 effort, which included the Rihanna-featuring single and title track, was more reserved because of his mood when he wrote the record.

"I think my mood will be reflected in the tempos I choose for the music," he said.

"A lot of 'Take Care,' it's down... and I think a lot of it had to do with being back in Toronto, getting reacquainted with the life I had before (fame) and difficulties with that, and at the same time trying to express excitement, express joy.

"Now I'm in a very, very, very, very different place than I've ever been, really focused on myself, really focused on my health, my body, my mind, really wanting to be the best I can possibly be...I'm in a different mindset now that I'm very proud of."

He added to Billboard: "It's going to be a very interesting album - probably, to be honest with you, conceptually one of the most exciting projects I've worked on, just 'cause there's so many new things going on in my life."

AccentGate (Hopefully) Concludes: Justin Bieber Press Conference Footage Shockingly Tantrum-Free

Yesterday we had The Mirror and about 15 other outlets spontaneously reversing their glowing reviews of his Monday album preview/press conference and instead accusing Justin of being petulant and surly, even going so far as to mock the British accent and offer Reggie Yates a condescending English lesson. To recap:

Justin decided to answer in an English accent, telling Londoner Reggie: “It’s ‘think’ with a ‘th’, not an ‘f’.”

Matthew McConaughey and Channing Tatum team up to watch men strip down!

The Magic Mike co-stars, who play male strippers in their newest flick, did a little homework by checking out a male strip club themselves for some real-life research!

Matthew, 42, spilled their secret to reporters at the premiere of his other new film, Bernie.

“[We] met early on and went by one male review strip club in New Orleans, I was there for about an hour. That was enough,” Matthew said.

This surely must have brought back some fond memories for Channing, 31, who was a former male dancer before becoming an actor. The film is said to be loosely based on his experiences as a stripper.

Brazilian Blowout CEO tells octomom to stop abusing taxpayer dollars on their products

Brazilian Blowout -- the company behind the hair procedure Octomom dropped hundreds of dollars on while on welfare -- is MORTIFIED by Octo's reckless spending ... and now, it's hatched a plan to make things right with taxpayers.

BB CEO Mike Brady tells TMZ, "We want to make sure that California taxpayers' money is not going to anything other than taking care of [Nadya Suleman's] children. We don't want to see those kids miss out on anything at the cost of a Brazilian Blowout.

So, a rep for the company tells us, BB is offering to reimburse Octomom the entire cost of her recent Brazilian Blowouts -- plus other hair treatments -- totaling $520.

But that's not it -- BB also wants to give Octomom free blowouts in the future at the company's salon in West Hollywood ... so she's not squandering her limited cash supply on luxury goods. BB will even cover the cost of a sitter while the mother of 14 is getting primped.

To top it all off, BB is offering to pay to fix Octo's toilet -- which might finally allow her kids to poop inside. One can only dream.

The tentpole is setting down in a total of 42 foreign markets this weekend. Joss Whedon directed Avengers, which unites superheros including Iron Man (Robert Downey), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans) and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).
Avengers is expected to be a box office monster, both domestically and overseas. In North America, it could debut north of $150 million, based on the sizable strength of pre-release tracking.

IMAX is playing the film in many of its theaters overseas, and enjoyed brisk business in those markets opening Wednesday.

Canada Deems Dr. Seuss "Too Political"

According to one school district in British Columbia, Canadian teachers shouldn’t be allowed to display a quote by Dr. Seuss. The Prince Rupert School District banned a quote from Seuss’s classic Yertle the Turtle from classrooms after declaring that the quote violated a district policy against political speech in classrooms. Basically, the district declared the quote “too political.”

A specific quote from the book, which was displayed in the classroom of an elementary school teacher in the district, brought about the ban:

Colton Dixon To Attend Correspondents Dinner, Writing With Chris Daughtry

Eliminated American Idol finalist, Colton Dixon will attend this weekend’s annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner as a special guest of The Christian Broadcasting Network.

“I think it was pretty clear from the beginning where Colton’s heart is,”  said CBN news director Rob Allman. “His heart is in Christianity and his strong feeling for God. As soon as he was voted off, I sent an email saying we should try to get Colton to be our guest if he would.”

Katharine McPhee, Ace Young, Chris Sligh and Mandisa have also attended the dinner in the past. (Via Today.com)

Also, Jason Wade of Lifehouse has reached out to the Idol finalist. He talked a little bit about the songs for his first album.

“I have multiple, multiple songs, it’s gonna be hard choosing songs for a record, I’m going to be writing till my fingers bleed,” Dixon told MTV News on Monday. “I hope I get to incorporate some of my older stuff in there too because then I can make it come full circle for me and this record would mean that much more. But just the different writers we’re already talking about. I had dinner with Chris Daughtry and there’s the option of writing with him, which would be amazing. And Jason Wade of Lifehouse called me up after I did his song and was interested in writing.”

More about getting advice from Chris

“He’s such a great guy, genuine guy, we talked about whatever, Jesus, life, we talked about Batman for probably 30 minutes, we’re both Batman nerds,” Dixon revealed, “It’s great to see established artists reaching out and trying to pull you up there.”

“I’m definitely trying to get as much advice from Chris on the future as possible,” Dixon said. “Just to help model my career after things that he has done, because he’s done a phenomenal job of just going for it even after getting voted off fourth. I’m hoping I can make the most out of top seven.”

Elizabeth Banks tosses shade at her first director

Elizabeth Banks' 'Surrender Dorothy' Quotes Upset Director

Elizabeth Banks is beloved by everyone -- but perhaps not Kevin DiNovis. At least at the moment.

DiNovis directed the 1998 film "Surrender Dorothy," which featured the first ever big-screen performance from Banks -- who was credited in the film as "Elizabeth Casey." In a recent interview with Slate.com, Banks said the experience was something of an ordeal.

"Really early on, I did this one movie -- I think it's called 'Surrender Dorothy,' I'm not even sure anymore," Banks said when asked about her biggest career mistake. After the lead actor in the film dropped out to take what Banks called a "real job" [complete with air quotes], DiNovis took over.

"The writer/director played the lead role, as well, because there was no one else to do it! And he wasn't a real actor. It was just one of those, 'What am I doing here?'" Banks said, before adding that the experience left her "grateful" because of what she learned from the process.

"I hadn't even gone to drama school. I was still a college student, actually," she said. "And I thought, 'I'd better go to drama school and learn how to never have this job again.'"

It's that quote that really irked DiNovis. Responding to Banks' semi-slam in an interview with THR, DiNovis said the actress was out of line.

"I'm shocked and deeply hurt by Ms. Banks' comments, and confused as to how she could consider her first break -- in Hollywood or anywhere -- as a career mistake," DiNovis said. "What exactly does she mean by 'this type of job'? Because there she seems to insult not just my work, but rather the entire American independent film movement." DiNovis equated Banks' comments as someone "firing cannons at a butterfly."

Huffington Post has reached out to Banks' representatives for comment.

"Surrender Dorothy" is a comedy-drama about a heroin addict. The film was called "seriously f--ked up" by one reviewer on Rotten Tomatoes.

Are You Ready For TLC's "Obese & Expecting"?

The network is set to unveil Obese & Expecting, about four moms-to-be who are morbidly overweight.

The project will chronicle their health crises, weight gain and relationship struggles as they strive to deliver healthy babies.

According to the upcoming announcement, “These women are challenging the perception — and the odds — of obese pregnancies, as they become moms, no matter their size or complications.”

The network will launch Obese & Expecting as a one-hour special and potential backdoor series pilot next month. Many TLC shows (such as the hit Extreme Couponing) first launch as stand-alone specials, then the network gauges audience reaction and decides whether to order a full season. We wouldn’t be surprised if this concept, at the very least, received a fair amount of pre-launch publicity (the show’s original working title, by the way, was the MTV-inspired My Supersize Pregnancy, though we would have gone with, say, 600 & Pregnant).

Miley Cyrus: Experts Fear She Has An Eating Disorder After Strange Tweets

Miley’s dropped 20 pounds and now experts worry that her food obsessive tweets reveal she may have eating issues. Here’s why!

Celebrities often use their Twitter accounts to share what’s on their mind, but lately, super-skinny Miley Cyrus has been busy tweeting about food. In one of her many food-centric tweets, the 19-year-old actress wrote, “I’ve got the sound of the rain & “we don’t eat” lulling me to sleep. My mind is wandering. So peaceful. #heavenonearth.” And in another, “Take a glorious bite out of the whole world.”

While there’s no denying that Miley’s body looks rockin’ these days, experts worry that Miley’s obsession with food could signify a deeper, underlying issue.

“It’s unsettling that Miley is constantly thinking about food!” Alicia Hunter, weight expert and author of The Accidental Diet: From Fugly to Fox, tells HollywoodLife.com. “It sounds like her intake and calories are ruling her consciousness day and night. This behavior and thought process is a classic red flag for signs of an eating disorder, body dysmorphia or an obsession with food and exercise.”

Lynn Grefe, President and CEO of the National Eating Disorders Association, agrees. She says, “Part of an eating disorder is obsessive–compulsive disorder. If Miley is obsessively focusing on food, there’s reason for concern.”

Alicia estimates that the 5’5″ star has gone from 135 to 115 lbs. in the last year. Besides a preoccupation with food and weight loss, Dr. Jeffrey Gardere, chief contributor to HealthGuru.com, says that past or present issues with self-mutilation are tell-tale signs that an individual is suffering from an eating disorder. Earlier this month, Miley was photographed with lacerations on her left wrist that could have been caused by cutting.

Let’s hope Miley hasn’t reverted back to her self-destructive ways!

What do YOU think about Miley’s food-related tweets?

Rooney Mara to Star in Big-Screen Adaptation of Colm Toibin's 'Brooklyn'

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Creative team behind "An Education" re-unites to produce film based on a Nick Hornby-penned script.

LONDON -- Rooney Mara is attached to star in a big-screen adaptation of Colm Toibin's best-selling novel Brooklyn penned by British novelist and screenwriter Nick Hornby.

Mara will play the lead in Toibin's story set in Brooklyn and Ireland in the early 1950s about a young woman torn between her family in Ireland and the American who wins her heart.

The project is being put together by the team that brought audiences the Carey Mulligan-led An Education, with producers Finola Dwyer and Amanda Posey formalizing their working relationship in Posey's Wildgaze Films.

Dwyer joins Posey's Wildgaze Films as a partner while novelist and screenwriter Nick Hornby, who is also Posey's husband, will "take a hands off role" in the new look set-up.

The $25 million adaptation of Brooklyn is set to shoot in the two locations the project is set in the Spring of 2013, Posey told THR.

Dwyer said the movie would roll then to ensure Mara's participation.

Wildgaze partners Dwyer and Posey are also gearing up the movie production of A Long Way Down, based on Hornby's own best-selling novel of the same name.

It will mark the first production out of the gate for the new look Wildgaze and will be directed by French filmmaker Pascal Chaumeilwho makes his English-language debut with the project later this year.

It has Pierce Brosnan, Toni Collette and Emile Hirsch cast with Dwyer and Posey working to finalize the fourth ensemble for the tale of a quartet of people who meet on New Year's Eve and form a surrogate family to help one another through their suicidal moments.

The pair are also developing via Wildgaze a movie based on British journalist Jon Ronson's best-seller The Psychopath Test, a humorous and sometimes dark book about the business of madness.

Ronson's book The Men Who Stare At Goatswas made into a movie starring EwanMcGregor, George Clooneyand Jeff Brigdes among others.

Mara is currently in demand having starred in David Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo alongside Daniel Craig and she also has turns in Lawless, directed by Terrence Malick and co-starring Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling and Natalie Portman as well as Steven Soderberg's The Bitter Pill.

Brandy opens up about the car accident

On last night's VH1's "Behind the Music", a teary-eyed Brandy finally opens up about one of the most devastating incidents in her life.

"I would hear what people would say, and still to this day they know that that's a button," Brandy says. "They know that they can call me a murderer or call me someone that killed someone. They know that is a button for me. A murderer is someone who premeditates it. I didn't wake up that day to be involved in a fatal car crash. I didn't plan for that. And if I could take it back, I would."

Brandy expands on dealing with the aftermath of the tragedy on "Behind the Music" I just wanted people to know that this wasn't news. It's not something that should be talked about like it's gossip. You don't like me? Fine. But don't use this situation to try to hurt me, because the guilt of being involved is enough. It's something that I'll never truly, truly get over. Ever," she explains.

Martin Scorsese says all his future films will be 3-D

Martin Scorsese has become so enamored with 3-D filmmaking that he expects to use the technology in all his future projects.

The Academy Award-winning director of "The Departed" told a crowd of theater owners at the CinemaCon convention in Las Vegas on Wednesday that he wishes his landmark films "Raging Bull" and "Taxi Driver" had been three-dimensional. Scorsese is so convinced of the power of 3-D, he said he only saw "Hugo," his first 3-D movie released to critical acclaim last year, once in 2-D.

"There is something that 3-D gives to the picture that takes you into another land and you stay there and it's a good place to be," he said.

Scorsese spoke at a film making panel alongside director Ang Lee, who won an Oscar in 2006 for the gay cowboy love story "Brokeback Mountain." Scorsese and Lee are among a growing crop of prominent directors who claim 3-D technology is the future of film making.

Scorsese said the added dimension of digital films allows movie fans to feel a stronger connection to the story and actors on screen. He recalled filming "Hugo" and watching as Sacha Baron Cohen, who portrayed a stern train station inspector, leaned forward on set, and the motion that created on a monitor.

"He sort of came right off the screen and we sort of felt like we were little kids again," Scorsese said.

Scorsese said he never thought he would have the opportunity to make a 3-D film. He said conquering the technology was challenging at first, but he ultimately decided to experiment as much as possible and watched 3-D versions of Alfred Hitchcock's "Dial M for Murder" and "The House of Wax," the 1953 horror film, for inspiration.

Tyra Explains What Happened

Tyra Banks is speaking out about the recent “America’s Next Top Model” shakeup that saw three of the show’s longtime personalities – Nigel Barker, Jay Manuel and J. Alexander – axed.

“We reached a point, where were feel the show needs a new boost,” Tyra told Access Hollywood at the 2012 Matrix Awards in New York City.

“It’s very difficult because I love my guys, they’re my guys,” she continued. “They’ve been there since the beginning of the show.”

Despite the trio’s exit from “ANTM,” Tyra said she could be working with them in the future.

“My partner Ken Mok and I have projects we’re developing, and we’re a family, it doesn’t end,” she added.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Tyra addressed the situation last week on her Facebook account.

“To my Nigel Barker, Miss J, and Mr Jay: Thank you for all of our years together on America’s Next Top Model! Working with you is always an absolute pleasure. Excited for what the future holds for us. XOXO, TyTy,” she wrote at the time.

Robert Downey Jr - "Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner could get Avengers movie spin-offs"

Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr has suggested there could be at least two more new spin-offs in the Avengers franchise – but it all depends on the reception from audiences to new characters Hawkeye and Black Widow, who appear in Marvel Avengers Assemble, released in cinemas nationwide on 26 April.

Speaking at the film's UK press conference, Downey Jr talked of his surprise at how well the franchise has done so far:

“From five years ago when we did the first Iron Man to today, it honestly couldn’t have gone any better,” he said. “All three franchises that we’ve launched so far had to work. If this didn’t work, it [would have] affected all the previous franchises extremely adversely.

"There’s also the potential for additional franchises based on how strongly people are reacting to Jeremy [Renner, who plays Hawkeye], Scarlett [Johansson, who plays Black Widow] and Mark [Ruffalo, who plays The Hulk].”

The comic book movie adaptation series already includes Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and a planned second follow-up, Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor and its upcoming sequel, plus a purported Hulk reboot. Two more additions to the franchise could see the series expand to nine films… and counting.

Downey Jr added: “I don’t understand why everything has gone this well but, in this one instance of my life, this seems to be the situation.”

Don't Trust the B---- in Apt. 23 News Roundup!

'Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23' EPs sing the praises of Krysten Ritter and Dream Walker
Though most of the press for "Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23" has focused on James Van Der Beek's return to TV playing a fictionalized version of himself, viewers of the show will quickly find that the Beek from the Creek is a supporting player to two fierce female leads.

The show is anchored by Dreama Walker as June, a small-town girl who moves to New York City with a very detailed five-year plan and has to abandon it when job prospects fall through and her fiance turns out to be a cheating jerk. For fans who know Walker best from her dark, conniving role on CBS's "The Good Wife," June is a breath of fresh air.

'Apt 23's' Dreama Walker: "There's Definitely Fight in June!"

Dreama Walker, who plays the wide-eyed do-gooder on ABC's freshman comedy Don't Trust the B---- in Apt 23, says June is aware of her place in the pecking order when it comes to surviving roommate Chloe's (Krysten Ritter) shenanigans.

"She doesn't want to be stepped on or mistreated," Walker tells The Hollywood Reporter.

"She wants to let Chloe know right from the beginning, 'Hey, this is who you're messing with here; I might look like a doormat because I'm nice, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I am.' There's definitely fight in June."

"Apartment 23" on track for Second Season!
Midseason used to be a time when misfires went to die. If a new sitcom was delayed to April, reasoning went, it was because it wasn't good enough, funny enough or catchy enough to draw attention in the fall, when the "real" contenders weigh in.

As TV's picture becomes more topsy-turvy over time, then, it only makes sense that, following a fall that gave TV such winning comedy formulas as Free Agents, How to Be a Gentleman, Man Up! and I Hate My Teenage Daughter, tone of the truly promising contenders for sitcom posterity bowed just a few weeks ago.

'Vampire Diaries': Ian Somerhalder Weighs in on Damon and Elena's Future

Damon and Elena took a big step forward, then a few steps back on The Vampire Diaries. With the 1920s dance heavy on Stefan-Elena moments, where does that leave Damon?

It's not going to be an easy road for the senior Salvatore as the season three finale, airing May 10, nears. But the following question was posed to Ian Somerhalder: How would Damon deal with the fact that Elena could choose either brother (or even neither)?

"He'd probably run around the streets of Mystic Falls like the roadrunner," Somerhalder told The Hollywood Reporter when he stopped by the THR Cover Lounge.

On the flip side, if things don't work out in Damon's favor, he'll get over it... eventually.
"If she doesn't, it's going to take a couple days, a couple bottles of booze, a couple sorority girls. He'll get back on track, but every time he's around her, he'll still feel that same thing," he added. "While her and Stefan are sitting having steak dinner, holding hands, he'll just be in the corner seething."

How realistic is it that Damon would one day let Elena go, for her own good and his?
"One would hope" he does, Somerhalder admitted. "If you're 170 years old, it's probably not the best idea to date an 18-year-old girl. There's some generational gaps in there, I think it's illegal..."

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on the CW.

Oscar Grant Movie, 'Fruitvale', May Star Octavia Spencer And Michael B. Jordan

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Octavia Spencer, the Oscar-winning actress from last year's Blockbuster film, "The Help", is allegedly in negotiation to star in "Fruitvale", an upcoming film about the shooting of Oscar Grant.

While Spencer is considering the role of Grant's mother Wanda Johnson, Michael B. Jordan of "Friday Night Lights" is reportedly in negotiations to play Grant. The film will be produced by Forest Whitaker and his production partner Nina Ying, and production is reported to begin as soon as July.

According to SFGate, Fruitvale will chronicle Grant's final hours before he was shot and killed on New Year's Eve 2009.

In the early hours of January 1, 2009, Oscar Grant was killed when he was shot by BART officer Johannes Mehserle who had restrained Grant after an incident at the Fruitvale BART Station. The shooting sparked national outrage after video footage taken on cell phone cameras showed Grant on the ground with his hands behind his back before Mehserle fired.

In 2010, Mehserle was sentenced to two years in prison for involuntary manslaughter after he testified that he had meant to use his taser instead of his gun. The verdict sparked destructive riots in Oakland, where many argued for a harsher sentence.

The movie's announcement comes just weeks after the shooting of Trayvon Martin in Florida -- an incident that many have compared to the death of Oscar Grant.

Janice Dickinson Continues Her Favorite Hobby

Janice Dickinson Rants About Latest ANTM Firings, Tyra Banks & Backstage Secrets

Hell hath no fury like a woman sea hag former supermodel scorned. You’d think after all these cycles, Janice Dickinson wouldn’t be so bitter about leaving “America’s Next Top Model” and former boss, Tyra Banks. Instead, she sounds even angrier. Gotta love a good celebrity catfight. Is her latest rant about ANTM simply the truth, sour grapes or an attempt to stay relevant? You decide.

In light of the recent judging panel spring cleaning, former judge herself, Dickinson went on Sirius XM’s “Derek and Romaine” show to give her two cents on Nigel Barker, Jay Alexander and Jay Manuel’s exit on the venerable modeling show. If I can liken her interview to anything, I would compare it to an air raid on Baghdad during the Gulf War. She was dropping bomb, after bomb, after bomb.

When asked her opinion about the judging panel shakeup, Janice says it was motivated by money and says Tyra is “one selfish greedy woman“. She then continues to rag on Tyrant and adds that it probably wasn’t entirely her decision. “She doesn’t have a creative bone in her body, so someone else is pulling the strings on this one.” Then when asked about Nigel Barker, Janice claims Tyra kept him for so long because she was in love with him, but it was useless pining over him because…

Did Taylor Swift Get a Boob Job??

We did a double take when Taylor stepped out in Beverly Hills on April 23 wearing a tight, striped dress! Did the blonde beauty go under the knife? Find out why three plastic surgeons say yes!

Taylor Swift has always impressed us with her easy-breezy style and down-to-earth attitude, but it seems the Hollywood lifestyle may finally be rubbing off on the country cutie. Recent photos of the 22-year-old singer suggest she may have undergone breast augmentation — and experts agree!

“The country star appears to be following in the footsteps of another female country singer, Dolly Parton, and enhanced her breasts,” plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn tells HollywoodLife.com.

Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Richard Fleming arees, adding, “I think it’s pretty obvious that’s she’s had breast enhancement. It looks very nice and proportional.”

Dr. Youn believes Taylor increased her cup size from a small A to a striking C.

“There is definitely a significant difference in the appearance of the breasts between the two photos,” says NYC-based plastic surgeon Dr. Adam Schaffner.

What do YOU think of Taylor’s new look? Do you think it’s all in the clothes, or did she go under the knife?

Alicia Keys for VIBE Magazine

“These songs aren’t finished yet,” she says, “but it’ll give you an idea. It’s more bare or something.” Thirty seconds into the first song and it’s clear she’s right. The piano is still there, as is the earnest voice that, in its natural imperfect state, can give you goose bumps. On a couple of the songs, the bass is so loud that it shakes the place, but all the bells and whistles, the studio add-ons that have made her sound occasionally, but unmistakably, pop, are gone.
“It’s sort of like the songs can breathe,” she says. Where she’s always sounded soulful and sweet and locked in a time that’s long passed, some critics have argued that she can be a bit buttoned-up, a little too produced. Not here, though. Now, she sounds raw, and even a little angry at moments. She sounds downright fierce.
Justin Vernon, the lead singer of Bon Iver, who recently spent a few days recording with her at his home in Fall Creek, Wis., agrees. “It’s easy to see the pop world trying to take over Alicia,” he says. “But I see her as someone who is desperately trying to stay on the far left hand of that. She really cares about music and she knows everything. It’s cool to see her in her spot, doing something different.”
“The term mentor/mentee is not applicable,” says Clive Davis. “That was never the case with Alicia, not even in the very beginning. I never submitted a song to her like I might for Whitney Houston or Jennifer Hudson. I never wrote for her. I created a haven, an environment of total belief, so she could do her thing.” In other words, he got out of the way. “I have enough intelligence to know I don’t have to be involved,” he says with a gentle laugh. “Nor should I be. I provided opportunity—that’s all I did.”

People magazine's natural beauties

magazine's Most Beautiful issue features Beyoncé on the cover, but inside, there are pages and pages of more Beautiful People, including a 10-page spread of female celebrities photographed wearing "not a drop of makeup." Ben Watts shot intimate, natural portraits of Rose Byrne, Julie Bowen, Paris Jackson, Zooey Deschanel, Lily Collins, Jessica Paré, Sandra Lee and Paula Patton. And they all look beautiful, sure. But of course they're not on the cover. The cover sticks to formula: Makeup, hair, lighting, Photoshop.

A couple of years ago French Elle ran some covers of stars SANS FARDS, and I had mixed feelings then, as I do now. Unlike Star magazine, where the celebs are mocked for daring to appear in public without spackle, the People editors gush, "bare is breathtaking," and declare that the women are showing off "natural beauty." And they are. They are.

Fringe Renewed For Final 13-Episode Season

This is good news no matter what universe or timeline you live in: Fox has renewed Fringe for a fifth and final 13-episode season.

Back in January, Fox president Kevin Reilly conceded that Fringe‘s low ratings were negatively impacting the network’s bottom line. ”We lose a lot of money on the show,” he said. “At that rating, on [Friday] night, its impossible to make money. We’re not in the business of losing money.”

But Fringe remains a passion project for Reilly. And Warner Bros. — eager for the J.J. Abrams thriller to reach that magic, syndication-enhancing 100 episode threshold — agreed to reduce the show’s license fee (i.e. the amount the studio charges the network for each episode).

'Prometheus' Could Land R Rating, Will Be Released 'Uncut' Regardless

'We will stand behind it 100 percent and if that means it's an R, then so be it,' Fox chief Tom Rothman tells MTV News.

"The rating board has not opined yet and it will go in to the board soon," Rothman told us on the press line for the studio's CinemaCon panel. "This I can tell you and I can tell all the fans, not one frame will be cut. The movie will be what it should be. We will not cut a frame of the film," he promised. "We will stand behind it 100 percent and if that means it's an R, then so be it, because not an ounce, not a percentage are we going to compromise the film."

Rothman went on to say that the film does indeed live up to the hype surrounding it and that he genuinely couldn't wait to see each and every new cut, visual effect and element added to the film during it's post-production.

"When we first saw the movie in 3-D, it's breathtaking," he said. "So I hope [it lives up to the hype]. I think so, I believe so." The excitable studio chief also explained his reasoning behind the title "Prometheus" and why they chose to leave the word "Alien" out of it altogether.

"I think the easy thing would have been to make an 'Alien' prequel and that's where it started as an idea, but it evolved," he said. "Ridley's ideas are much bigger than that and it really is a brand-new film, and this is the man who made 'Blade Runner.' He hasn't made a science-fiction film in 30 years, and to be honest, I didn't want to undersell it. 'Prometheus' is an ambitious title I hope everybody knows — it's the name of the ship in the movie but also [based on] the god who stole fire from the gods and gave it to man and paid a serious price for it, so be careful what you do. The cautionary guy, Prometheus," he joked.

Rothman said "Prometheus" is not just a movie for "Alien" fans. "It's a big, bold new-idea movie and we want it in the title because people know [that] this movie stands on its own," Rothman added. "If you're a fan of 'Alien,' great. But if you're not, it's entirely self-contained and full of new ideas."

Rihanna Makes Strange Noises During TIME 100 Performance

When Rihanna was named among TIME’s 100 Most Influential People it was clearly because of her fashion and not her singing. If you disagree with that view then simply watch her acoustic performance of ‘We Found Love’ at the TIME 100 Gala where she embarrassed herself in the packed venue.

However, all was not lost as Rihanna’s ‘We Found Love’ rendition was somewhat better than her showing at An Unforgettable Evening where she ruined Bob Marley’s ‘Redemption Song’. Watch her performance at the TIME 100 Gala below:

Jimmy Jam discusses The Time, Prince, and working with Janet and Michael Jackson

Jimmy Jam’s illustrious career as a musician, songwriter, and record producer began in the early ‘80s with The Time. The band scored Prince-produced hits such as “Cool” and “777-9311” while establishing itself as a live act not to be taken lightly. Prince, with whom The Time toured during that period, once told Rolling Stone, "They're the only band I've ever been afraid of."

After their forced departure from The Time in the mid-‘80s, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis formed Flyte Tyme Productions. Together the duo produced hit after hit, most notably for Janet Jackson, but also artists including Usher, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, George Michael, Boyz II Men, and many others.

After a 20-year-plus absence, The Time has reunited, albeit under a new name. As The Original 7ven, they have issued an all-new album called Condensate. Part one of my interview with Jimmy Jam focused on the conception of that album and the band’s future plans. As our conversation continued, we discussed not only The Time’s history, but also other aspects of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis’s career as producers.

Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga to Play Aliens in MIB3

Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Frank the Pug, make room for Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga.

Men in Black III director Barry Sonnenfeld recently confirmed that both pop stars will have small roles in the upcoming summer blockbuster.

In an interview with Collider, Sonnenfeld revealed that Bieber and Gaga would play aliens alongside director Tim Burton.

"In this [installment] there are a few people that you'll see up on the surveillance board, including Lady Gaga, Tim Burton, who probably knows more about aliens than I do, and let's see who else... Justin Bieber," Sonnenfeld said. "The challenge is getting celebrities that are famous, will give you permission and won't be like 'Who's that guy?' in 10 years."

Of course, J.B. and Gaga aren't the first pop icons to participate in the Men in Black films. In 2002's Men in Black II, Michael Jackson played Agent M.

Real Stars Don't Get Out of Bed Before 2 p.m.

Suni Lindsay Lohan's second day on the Glee set probably won't go down as her finest hour.

Sources on set have given us exclusive details of Lindsay's guest appearance yesterday, including that the troubled actress was indeed "incredibly late," and production had to send a car to the Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood to pick her up and bring her to set.

So what does Lindsay's rep have to say? And what nickname has she picked up on set?

"Lindsay was a total nightmare yesterday," says one (clearly less than thrilled) source on the Glee set. "She was three hours late in the morning, and when she did finally arrive, she just didn't want to be there. She did not want to work. She had not memorized her lines, and she kept disappearing so no one could find her."

A highly placed Glee source tell us that Lindsay's lengthy scene last week went "really great, she was so professional and it looked like everything was going to go so well."

Yesterday, however, although she didn't have many lines, L.L.'s tardiness did irk some members of the cast and crew, who showed up at least three hours prior. We are told that some staffers on set were so less than thrilled by Lindsay's antics, they have given her the nickname "That Girl," adding, "She has rubbed them all up the wrong way by being so disrespectful of everyone else's schedule."

Dot Marie Jones, who plays Coach Bieste, tweeted out (and later deleted): "Gonna be a long day!! Some ppl show up late and just throw a wrench in things. Not cool! I'd rather be an hour early (I was) than 5 minutes late."

Lindsay (along with guest celebrity judges Rex Lee and Perez Hilton) was shooting the big "Nationals" competition, for the Glee episode that will air May 15 on Fox. They were doing reaction shots of Lindsay and the other audience members yesterday. She is playing herself.

Lindsay's spokesman Steve Honig insists she was late yesterday because of a "misunderstanding" about her call time, and tells us: "The production team came to us and said that they wanted to start [with Lindsay] right after lunch, which was at 2. They wanted to begin with Lindsay at 3, so that meant she had a lot of time where she wasn't doing anything. That's why people didn't see her. She was then in hair and makeup and began after lunch at 3."

He adds: "If there was a problem yesterday, I would have just said 'no comment,' however I can't ignore this because this is utter B.S. This is a classic example of people trying to bash Lindsay. She busted her ass yesterday and is back on set again today."

A well-placed Glee source tells us that despite the tardiness issues yesterday, "Everyone on Glee is still rooting for Lindsay. We had made a few jokes at her expense earlier in the show, and we really do want her to be able to succeed."

Lindsay is on the Glee set today finishing up her guest spot.

New still from "The Avengers" + some box office news

Marvel's The Avengers has already made an estimated $17.1M from 10 countries, exceeding expectations and becoming one of the highest grossing openings ever. It has also been revealed that pre-ticket sales for the film are more than every other Marvel Studios movie combined.

Deadline has more estimates coming in from the 10 of the 42 territories that Marvel's The Avengers has been released in over the past two days and it continues to break box office records. The superhero ensemble has now made $17.1M in total after impressive openings of $7.2M in Australia, $3.0 in France, $1.3M in the Philippines, $1.2M in Taiwan, and $800K in New Zealand. This is a particularly strong opening in Australia where it has opened 214% ahead of Iron Man 2 and 136% ahead of The Dark Knight. This is the highest opening day ever for a Disney film in the country.

In other news, MovieTickets.com reveal that the film, "is pre-selling more tickets for the upcoming release than the online ticketing company sold for Captain America, Thor, Iron Man 2, and Iron Man combined at the same point in the sales cycle for each film. In fact, pre-sales are over 1 1/2-times that of these past Marvel films combined sales at the same point in the sales cycle." To put this into perspective for you, tickets for Marvel's The Avengers are selling 3,995% more tickets than Captain America: The First Avenger, 1,034% more tickets than Thor, 114% more tickets than Iron Man 2, and 1,406% more tickets than Iron Man.

50 Shades Of Grey Movie: Could Christian Bale Sign Up?

In case you hadn't heard, the wildly popular erotic novel 'Fifty Shades of Grey', by E.L James, is being adapted for the big-screen by Universal. The studio fended off stiff competition in a frantic bidding war last month and attention now turns to who could play the novel's protagonist Christian Grey.

Based on the Twilight movies and telling the story of male oppression and domination, the film may not win any Academy Awards, but it's likely to be one of the biggest movies of the year when it hits screens in 2013. The lead roles are obviously highly sought after, given Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder has already thrown his hat into the ring. The New York Daily News suggests others may be better suited to the role, including Christian Bale, who would certainly be a massive coup for producers. In their recommendation, the Daily News say, "Christian Bale is more than capable of conjuring up the obsessive, controlling passion at the core of Christian Grey's need for Ana Steele", however, the role would surely be too similar to his classic portrayal of killer Patrick Bateman in American Psycho.

Elsewhere, Zac Efron is also being tipped for the role, given he is finally making the effort to shrug off his 'High School Musical' past. As for the role of female lead Anna Steele, Zooey Deschanel would almost certainly be in with a shout. The character is described as "terribly awkward", which would suit the 'New Girl' star down to a tee, and with a Golden Globe nomination in the bag, she is unlikely to be overlooked. An actress with stronger credentials in terms of movie credits may be Harry Potter star Emma Watson.

Speculation on the casting of the movie comes after Fifty Shades of Grey topped USA Today's Best-Selling Books list, beating The Hunger Games to No.1.

Colbert has more money that presidential candidate Ron Paul

Ron Paul's campaign is so downtrodden that the super PAC supporting his candidacy has less cash than former fake presidential candidate Stephen Colbert.

The latest Federal Election Commission filings revealed that Colbert’s super PAC Americans for A Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow had $794,462. Endorse Liberty, the pro-Ron Paul group, had only $53,984.

To be fair, since the Comedy Central comedian isn't actually running for president, he hasn't spent nearly as much as Paul campaigning. Still, the Texas congressman only raised $13,104 in March -- a significant drop from earlier this year, when billionaire Peter Thiel donated $1.7 million. Colbert, on the other hand, raised $43,896 last month.

As Mitt Romney comes closer GOP 2012 nomination with major endorsements and primary wins, Ron Paul struggles to remind voters he's still running.

Paul recently told CBS's Face The Nation that "the votes haven't been counted ... there's no way I'm gonna give up on the effort to get the Republicans back to their roots."

Snooki: Pregnancy has made me more mature.

Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi may be best known for her carefree, club-hopping ways, but the Jersey Shore star – who recently confirmed that she and fiancé Jionni LaValle are expecting their first child – says that having a baby on the way has changed her.

"I guess [pregnancy] just made me more mature,” Polizzi, 24, told reporters while promoting her new MTV show Snooki & JWoww Thursday in New York City.

Joined by Jenni "JWoww" Farley and Jersey Shore cast mate DJ Pauly D, the reality star explained just how much her behavior has been altered.

"It's different because now I'm not drinking," Polizzi notes. "I'm usually partying and going to clubs but pregnancy made me grow up a lot."

Her best friend agrees: "[Nicole] really came into her own being pregnant. Looking at your best friend and seeing that you feel proud,” said Farley, 26.

Premiering June 21 on MTV, Snooki & JWoww follows Polizzi during her first trimester – during which she barely suffered from morning sickness. "I hardly threw up," she notes. "I was just very tired and cranky."

But she's done with her signature "Whaaa" whine. "My baby will take over that sound," she says. "I can't wait!”

Polizzi said her beloved pickles are a thing of the past, as well. The petite star's newest cravings are "a lot of fruits and Italian icies … no pickles.”

Lastly, she’s given up the glow. Known for her signature bronze complexion, Polizzi admits, "I haven't tanned since August."

Game of Thrones' Gethin Anthony Discusses Renly's Rise, Relationships and Shaving Scene

by Hanh Nguyen

In the War of Five Kings, Renly Baratheon appears to be the most powerful, at least on the popular front.

On HBO's Game of Thrones (Sundays, 9/8c),Gethin Anthony plays young Renly, who's become quite the charismatic young leader in the drama's second season. "He started off as a young man at court, very much a courtier, and had to go through a huge evolution into becoming a king, and not a king with an easy route to power," Anthony tells TVGuide.com. "He's had to take on a lot of responsibility. He's had to become more politically strategic with warfare and understanding armies."

Game of Thrones' Natalie Dormer: Margaery supports Renly and Loras' love

Two other self-styled kings -- Renly's older brother Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane) and Robb Stark (Richard Madden) -- have taken notice of Renly's impressive number of followers and have tried to convince him to join forces to overthrow King Joffrey (Jack Gleeson).

Going into Sunday's new episode, "The Ghost of Harrenhal," Anthony discusses Renly's political strengths, his relationships and that infamous shaving scene from Season 1:

How would you assess Renly as a player in the game?
Gethin Anthony:
The reason why I like playing him is I think he's a fantastic man who believes in Westeros being a cultured and enlightened place. His major advantage -- and why he gets on well in the world -- is that he gets on well with people. There's lots in the books [on which Game of Thrones is based] about him being able to talk to queens and serving ladies alike. He can talk to anyone in the court and anyone from the populace. He would be a very popular presidential candidate.

Unfortunately, that's not how it works in Westeros. There are other problems that he faces along the way. But Mace Tyrell is behind him and is the head of a very wealthy family and no doubt wants one of his children to be royal somehow. That's how Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer) becomes involved. I have no doubt that Mace told him, "Yes, I think you should be king. And here's my army and my money." Renly's war strategy is sort of bang on. He's got a lot of money behind him, he's got a lot of strategic power, he's got 100,000 soldiers and 22 families behind him.

Tweets put focus on racism, hockey and Boston

Hate travels fast in the age of Twitter. No sooner had Joel Ward's shot found the back of the net late Wednesday than racist rants began spewing on the Internet.

Web sites such as Chirpstory and BlackSportsOnline collected dozens of the vile tweets. Most used the n-word modified by the f-word. A few issued death threats. And some combined both: "That (n-word) deserves to hang." "Shocking to see," Ward told USA TODAY Sports, "but it didn't ruin my day."Web sites such as Chirpstory and BlackSportsOnline collected dozens of the vile tweets. Most used the n-word modified by the f-word. A few issued death threats. And some combined both: "That (n-word) deserves to hang."

"Shocking to see," Ward told USA TODAY Sports, "but it didn't ruin my day."

Ward, who was born in Toronto of parents from Barbados, heard about the tweets while on the Washington Capitals' flight back from Boston after his Game 7 overtime goal knocked out the defending champion Bruins. Teammate Jeff Halpern showed Ward some of the tweets and apologized that he had to see that.

"Halpern just took offense that people weren't talking about the goal, (but rather) getting into racist remarks," Ward said. "I think he was telling me he had my back."

So did Caps owner Ted Leonsis, who attacked the haters on his blog, Ted's Take: "What these people have said and done is unforgivable. I hope they are now publicly identified and pay a huge price for their beliefs."

The NHL issued a statement that called the comments "ignorant and unacceptable" and said the people who made them "have no place associating themselves with our game."

Some Twitter users attacked the racist tweets. By Thursday evening, 31 of the 40 tweets highlighted on Chirpstory.com had been deleted and 17 of those accounts deleted. One tweeted an apology, saying he was 16 and had made a stupid mistake.

"I think it is just kids," Ward said. "It has no effect on me whatsoever." Some of the tweeters indicated they were Bruins fans, though it is hard to know how many are from Boston, a city with a fraught history of racial tension.

Source. I don't claim to know anything about hockey, not my kind of sport, but it is still a good read. It is sad though.
