Three Time Oscar Nominee Stops by The Late Show with David Letterman & the Today Show

Michelle Williams: Oscar Nomination Caught Me Off Guard

Michelle Williams stops by the Ed Sullivan Theater to tape an appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman on Wednesday (February 1) in NYC.

The 31-year-old actress paired her Erdem dress with Giuseppe Zanotti heels and a Balenciaga coat.

Last week, Michelle was on the Today show where she shared how she got news of her Oscar nomination.

She had been busy getting 6-year-old daughter Matilda ready for the day, then headed to a friend’s house for breakfast, with the pal opening the door with, “Michelle, they just called your name on TV.”

“It was a very sweet way to hear that news … [the nomination announcement] slipped my mind, which is something that’s so great about having a kid. You get really absorbed,” Michelle said.

The 10 Most Outrageously Insane Episodes of 'Jem'

Thanks to reruns on the Hub and a new DVD box set from Shout Factory, Jem and the Holograms has been experiencing a bit of a renaissance lately -- especially here at ComicsAlliance. I've become hooked on the show, and as someone who recently finished watching every episode of the show, let me tell you: It is completely insane.

It may even be the craziest of the toy tie-in cartoons of the '80s, and considering it's up against the saga of space robots that can turn into trucks and a show about the greatest soldiers in the world fighting against an arms dealer with a Cthulhu monster in his basement, that's saying something. It might be a bold statement, but it's one I intend to prove with a rundown of The 10 Most Truly, Outrageously Insane Episodes of Jem!

Dr. Dog: The Black Hole Of Modern Existence

Dr. Dog's latest album, Be the Void, shakes, rattles and rolls. The drums alone sound as if they've trashed many sets of good speakers, while the guitars feel crankier and funkier than in previous incarnations. The Philadelphia band went for a live, more rocking sound on the new record, and it achieved that effect by nixing the notion of an outside producer. Devotees of Shame, Shame and Fate will likely notice the difference — it's like abandoning The Beatles for The Rolling Stones or The Flaming Lips.

Emma Roberts lives up to warm, cuddly image...ditches Chord Overstreet on film

Before they officially called it quits, Emma Roberts did everything possible to ice out Chord Overstreet, multiple insiders tells Us Weekly.

"Emma told Chord he didn't need to spend New Year's with her. It was just her and her girlfriends, a tradition she always does," one source says. "Emma is pretty difficult to be in a relationship with."

The 20-year-old Art of Getting By actress had been belittling Overstreet for months, another source says. "Emma calls him Chord -- pronounced like chair -- to his face," a source told Us in November. "She acts like he's really dumb."

Things came to a head at Golden Globes after-party January 15, a third insider tells Us. "Chord was waiting outside the CAA party at Sunset Tower waiting for Emma to come get him at the door."

When Roberts ignored Overstreet's text messages, he was overheard saying, "Emma does this all the time when she doesn't want to see me."

Glee's Overstreet, 22, never made it inside the party -- and Roberts was seen "crying and noticeably upset," the third insider says. "Clearly they had a fight about her not coming out to get him."

A fourth source close to the couple adds that Overstreet "is so nice and was such a good boyfriend. . .He was always so sweet." On the other hand, a fifth source insists: "Chord was controlling and always wanted to know where she was at all times. Emma's career is very important to her, but Chord wanted it to be all about him. She's too young to be able to give someone that kind of commitment."

The two stars were first spotted making out in April 2011 at the A|X Armani Exchange and 944 Magazine carnival in Indio, Calif.

"They're both young kids, they had crushes on each other but the relationship ran its course," a sixth insider tells Us of their breakup. "She isn't and wasn't looking for a serious thing."

Amy Adams and Samantha Morton Join Joaquin Phoenix and Carey Mulligan for Untitled Spike Jonze Movie

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

It has been three, far too long years since Spike Jonze's last feature film, the wonderful "Where The Wild Things Are" and while various videos and shorts he's done in the interim -- including "I'm Here" and "Scenes From The Suburbs" -- were nice holdovers, we're glad that his next movie, penned by Charlie Kaufman, appears to be taking shape. First announced over a year ago, Megan Ellison and her Annapurna shingle got things rolling by backing the project and over 2011 Joaquin Phoenix and Carey Mulligan came aboard. Now, two more great actresses appear to be boarding the film.

Deadline reports that Samantha Morton and Amy Adams are eyeing roles in the project that remains tightly under wraps. For Morton, it's a return to Kaufman's weird world, as she starred in his directorial debut "Synecdoche, New York" while it will be Adams' first time working with either the writer or director. The actual plot isn't known, but it's reportedly a satire about world leaders who gather to figure out all the seismic events that will take place in the world, from oil prices to wars that will be waged. And knowing Kaufman, that's probably only a fraction of what's going on.

Last we heard a spring shoot was in the works, and we presume that's still the case. If so, that means we'll be getting new films from both Jonze and Kaufman (he's helming the developing "Frank Or Francis," another project he's written) very soon, and hopefully right around the same time. 2013 is already looking very promising.

UPDATE: Okay, so this isn't the political satire at all. Instead, it's a Jonze-penned romance that first started bubbling to life last summer, that follows a man who falls in love with a Siri-like computer voice. Joaquin Phoenix and Carey Mulligan are also attached to this project, with Amy Adams and Samantha Morton now looking to come aboard as well. Either way, it sounds great.

ngl, I kind of love that Joaquin Phoenix pulled a really questionable career move, and then came back to work with people like PT Anderson, Marion Cotillard, Amy Adams, and Spike Jonze/Kaufman like nothing even happened. I may start stanning for him, tbh.

David Yates & Emma Watson to reunite for 'Your Voice In My Head'

Warner Bros is negotiating to acquire Your Voice in My Head, the Emma Forrest-scripted drama based on the scribe's memoir that is expected to be the next film by director David Yates. The film is shaping up to be a Harry Potter reunion.

Yates is in discussions with Emma Watson to star in the role of a young woman who attempts suicide before being saved by a New York-based psychiatrist who's dying of cancer. Watson and Yates worked together on the last four Harry Potter films.

Warner Bros has made it a priority to get right back in business with Yates. The studio offered him its script Imitation Game, but Yates didn’t bite and the studio is putting together a list of directors I’m told includes Ralph Fiennes and Bryan Singer. As for the lead male role in Your Voice in My Head, the studio is aiming high, with names like Tom Hanks and George Clooney in the mix. Yates is expected to make this film before he does A Reliable Wife at Sony. Watson is repped by WME, Yates by CAA.

Alec Baldwin reveals he has lost 30 pounds after discovering that he is prediabetic

Alec Baldwin has been cutting a slimmer figure of late and last night the 30 Rock actor revealed why. The 53-year-old says he lost 30 pounds after discovering that he was prediabetic. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the Screen Actors Guild Awards he said he shed the weight in a bid to eliminate his chance of the disease progressing.

Slimmed down: Alec Baldwin pictured at SAG awards, right, has lost 30 pounds, on the left he is pictured in February last year

His revelation came after he won the Best Actor in a TV Comedy statue. Alec discovered his health problem in May. A Prediabetic condition means that the patient has some but not all of the criteria to be deemed diabetic. A sufferer's blood sugar level is usually in between a normal blood sugar level and a diabetic state, making them highly susceptible to developing Type 2 diabetes.

Tim Tebow Refuses To Drop Pants For Jockey Underwear Campaign

"Some things are better when left to the imagination," Mo Moorman, public relations director for Jockey International, told me.

An underwear-clad Tebow was briefly displayed on the company's website, but has since been replaced with an image of the Denver Broncos player fully clothed. But even with his pants on, the quarterback has been a "lightning rod" for the brand, driving up sales, according to Chief Marketing Officer Dustin Cohn.

Daniel Radcliffe On 'The Woman In Black' And Saying Goodbye to 'Harry Potter'

It's incredibly difficult to jump from portraying a character so ingrained in society -- like Daniel Radcliffe's Harry Potter -- to a lesser-known character in a non-franchise movie. How does an actor shed that persona when he moves on to more artsy, less mainstream roles?

Level-headed and seemingly wise beyond his years, Radcliffe gave Moviefone a few minutes to pick his brain while on a junket in Toronto. Watch the video interview above.

Lana Del Rey 'Compelled' By Britney Spears

To look at her, you'd think Lana Del Rey's inspirations come mostly from 1940s detective movies and sepia-toned Hollywood pin-ups. But the "Video Games" singer told England's Magic 105.4 that one of her big fashion and music icons is Britney Spears.

"I'm not really interested in a ton of female musicians but there is something about Britney that compelled me - the way she sings and just the way she looks," Del Rey said. And even though she's just released her major-label debut under the Del Rey name, she added that she's already kind of over music-making.

"The thing that makes me happy now isn't really singing," she said. "Music was once the be-all and end-all, but when you lose everything you have over and over again, it's not so important."

Joan Rivers without makeup

Joan waits in a plastic surgeon's office for some touchups.

On the new season of Joan & Melissa, Joan Rivers got some more plastic surgery.

Naturally, this required her to arrive at her surgeon's office sans makeup, and she allowed the reality cameras to capture what she really looks like. She's the first to admit it's not pretty.

For years, Rivers has been the butt of jokes about being a plastic surgery addict, going under the knife so often that she's barely recognizable from her former self. This time around she wanted to get loose skin beneath her chin removed, citing that it was visible on camera of her E! show Fashion Police. Rivers insists throughout the episode that it's "show business" that requires physical perfection from her. But does it? Let's be real: Joan Rivers' success as a comedian has never been hinged upon her beauty or youth—her career didn't even really get going until she was in her late '30s.

And while it's revolutionary that a 78-year-old female celebrity would allow herself to appear on a television show with no makeup (and in terrible, overhead lighting) it's also kind of weird, too, considering that the reason she did it was to achieve some kind of (unattainable) facial perfection for a different television show. Hollywood really fucks with women's heads—and faces.

Madonna Does The Advocate

She talks about W.E., the gays and AIDS, shopping with her kids, and why she basically offloaded her gay friends during her marriage.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Oh, and talks more about Gaga to shut you all up, and piss off her stanners:

What does she think of how Gaga connects with her fans, and is it parallel to the relationship you had with gay fans early on?

It seems genuine. It seems natural, and I can see why she has a young gay following. I can see that they connect to her kind of not fitting into the conventional norm. I mean, she’s not Britney Spears. She’s not built like a brick shithouse. She seems to have had a challenging upbringing, and so I can see where she would also have that kind of connection, a symbiotic relationship with gay men.

EDIT: Built like a brick shithouse refers to one who is conventionally attractive.  Some of you aren't 90 years old, and may not know what it means.  Thought I'd clear that up.

Are More Hollywood A-Listers Taking HGH to Stay Young?

The drug is best known for being used by professional athletes, mainly baseball players, who need help recovering from injury or building muscle. HGH has been banned by Major League Baseball since 2005.

However, in the March issue of Vanity Fair, writer Ned Zeman says the problem extends way past the baseball diamond and into the high-end establishment of the Hollywood film industry. As one talent manager told him, "any actor over 50 you're still seeing with a ripped stomach and veins in his forearms is probably taking H.G.H."

Arrested Development Reboot Update!!!

A little bit of a preview of tomorrow's Tuned In column on Netflix debuting its first original scripted series by way of an update on the revival of "Arrested Development."

When it was first announced last fall that Netflix will revive the former Fox sitcom as a series (possibly as a run up to an "Arrested Development" movie), the details were sketchy. Would these be webisodes or full episodes? How many will be made?

Even in his blog post this week, producer Dean Lorey was light on details beyond news that work on the episodes has begun for a 2013 debut.

In chatting with Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos, I was able to get answers to a few of my questions about the "AD" reboot.

Next Factor Q&A: 'Chronicle' Star Michael B. Jordan

Remember that awesome kid on "The Wire?" Or maybe you remember him as Vince Howard on "Friday Night Lights?" He was also that sweet guy who dated Haddie on "Parenthood."

Now Michael B. Jordan is taking all those memorable, sweet qualities from the television to the big screen – it's about time! – in the new sci-fi flick, "Chronicle."

The movie takes a frighteningly realistic look at what would happen if a trio of high school boys from different ends of the social spectrum were suddenly masters of telekinesis. The trick to keeping the story "grounded in real life," Jordan tells NextMovie, was the level of collaboration director Josh Trank encouraged between him and the cast.

"We were constantly talking about what a high school boy would really do if he could move things with his mind," he explained, adding that the scene where his character, Steve, has a leaf blower move and lift girls' skirts was his idea.

All flashing moments aside, Jordan's soulfulness throughout years of television is just as evident in his latest film and, no doubt, will continue through many projects to come.

LØV full-length film by Stephanie Di Giusto, starring Kate Bosworth

LØV , the new autumn-winter 2011-2012 film directed by Stephanie Di Giusto.

After Lou Doillon, there is the appearance of a another heroine: Kate Bosworth. Her mysteriousness, her strength. Also another side to femininity, a stirring truthfulness which is renewed with every look, every movement accompanied by a wisp of assertiveness and purity. A new gracefulness progressing to a confident allure, conquering, a battling frailty.

It starts with an urban universe almost futuristic where this femininity comes up against angles, up against emptiness where lines are sought for and where poetry is found. A surrealistic dance, frantic and lively giving a light note to this ballad, this adventure which is perhaps the landscape of a soul.

Then the thread of the tale gets tenser. We come across a more solemn Kate, looking inwards, a mysterious warrior. Kate runs away, frightened by her dark double, perhaps her mirror reflection, perhaps her sister in dreams. White horses bolt with the music, liberating her wildness and the impatient purity of her energy, of her victory.

Euphoria of flight, of a grace released from the surface, from reality. Light headed. Kate is at the top of a tree of life giving herself up to an appeasing sun, to a sensual rapture winging towards the heart of the matter, streaming along, a reflection on the water.
In fact, a love story.

I don't know what the hell is this, but I love it.

Octavia Spencer: The Media Promotes Only ‘A Certain Kind of Pretty’

41 year-old actress Octavia Spencer just posted on Facebook a long message that gathered her thoughts on beauty and body image in the celebrity world, on how the media promotes only ‘a certain kind of pretty’ and on how she feels confident, pretty and healthy at her weight. Let’s see her thoughts:
After being honored by my Guild on Sunday, I was whisked to the Press Room where one of the first questions I was asked (by Ted Casablanca) was ‘what I felt about underweight women’. (i’m paraphrasing here) I’m thinking….this is relevant because… Then I started thinking, would these questions ever be asked of my male counterparts? Better yet, underweight actors or actresses? Nah, I don’t think so!
Anyway, I answer: “Women would be alot happier if they ate…However, it is society that has told them and continues to tell them that you are less valued if you are of a certain age, or weight…something has to change. ” I began that by addressing my own weight issue..”Granted I’m not at the healthiest weight because when you are heavier around the middle…” blah blah blah. YOu get it. The next thing I read, Octavia Spencer is WORRIED ABOUT HER WEIGHT…. OCTAVIA SPENCER FEELS SHE IS LESS VALUED BECAUSE OF HER WEIGHT…
Of course I was miffed that not only was I being misrepresented, but it was sending THE WRONG MESSAGE to kids out there.
So, I decided to tell you IN MY OWN DAMNED WORDS the truth! First of all, Ladies and Gents here’s what i am NOT DOING….I am NOT WORRYING ABOUT MY WEIGHT! I AM NOT TRYING TO CONFORM TO an unrealistic model of beauty.

Disney Princess vs. Studio Ghibli

Perhaps it is a leftover from my ancient academic ambitions or the early development of my reading habit, but I tend to take stories more seriously than the average person. As a dad, I am also highly sensitive to the influence both stories and the broader culture have on my children. Young children are still developing their capacity to distinguish fact from fiction. It seems reasonable to assume they are more influenced by the stories we give them than an adult, who is better able to separate himself from the impact and message of a story. This is such a common-sense assumption that most of us take it for granted. Yet, it underlies so many of the cultural rules and regulations by which we organize our children’s lives, from the ratings on videogames, movies and graphic novels, to the vain attempts by legislators to regulate internet pornography and advertising during children’s programming.

Michael Sheen & Lizzy Caplan to star in new Showtime pilot

Showtime has found a royal replacement for Paul Bettany for its Masters of Sex drama pilot.

Michael Sheen, an Emmy and Academy Award nominee for his portrayal of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair in the telepic The Special Relationship and feature The Queen, has been tapped to play William Masters.

Sheen replaces Bettany, who dropped out of the project.

Meanwhile, New Girl guest star Lizzy Caplan has been tapped to co-star as Virginia Johnson, who with Masters explored the science of human sexuality and whose research touched off the sexual revolution.

The drama pilot, based on Thomas Maier's Masters of Sex: The Life and Times of William Masters and Virginia Johnson, the Couple Who Taught America How to Love, is being directed by John Madden (Shakespeare in Love) and begins production in March in New York. The Pacific's Michelle Ashford, Judith Verno and Justified duo Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly will serve as executive producers, while Sheen and Tammy Rosen will produce the Sony Pictures Television project.

Sheen's credits include the Twilight franchise, arcs on 30 Rock and the U.K.'s BAFTA-nominated Fantabulosa and Dirty Filthy Love; he's repped by ICM. Caplan's credits include Mean Girls, Hot Tub Time Machine, Party Down and True Blood, among others; she's repped by CAA.

"Save Community" PSA

Here's Donald Glover's heartfelt plea to save Community, as if you needed another reason

By Steve Heisler

Community is a television sitcom on the National Broadcasting Company, or NBC as it's commonly known. It is quite popular among "fans" of television, though for whatever reason it hasn't been covered much on this website until this very moment. Donald Glover, presumably while doing an interview for something else, created an impromptu PSA urging viewers to save his show, which has been on indefinite hiatus since December. And I suppose if you care enough (and really, who does?), you could do as Donald says and call the number that doesn't appear on the screen. Or, write your governor, or some other lawmaker, and tell them to keep Community on the air so they can file your complaint away as "non-essential." But if any of you are reading this from the corporate headquarters of Sony Pictures, the company that makes Community, you know what to do. And it's called "5,500 comments on this article."

I just want it back..

the ebullient kate mara to star alongside kevin spacey in david fincher's new netflix series

American Horror Story's Kate Mara signs on for David Fincher's TV Series House of Cards

Over on Deadline it has emerged that American Horror Story’s Kate Mara has been cast in David Fincher’s drama House of Cards.

House of Cards is the first original series to come from Netflix and is a remake of the hugely successful British TV series of the same name.

The series was based on Michael Dobbs’ book and is a political thriller centered around the scheming Francis Urquhart, Chief Whip of the Conservative party, who plots to unseat the current Prime Minister and ensure his own election as party leader thus making himself Prime Minister. A young female reporter gets close to the story and to Urquhart himself, risking her integrity and soul.

Ian Richardson made Urquhart his own, a ruthless shark of a man who possesses an undeniable charm, with Susannah Harker as the reporter.

Fincher’s American reboot will see Kevin Spacey taking on the Urquhart role, now re-named as Frank Underwood and with Robin Wright as his Lady Macbeth style wife.

Mara will take on the plum role of Zoe Barnes, the young reporter who becomes caught in Underwood’s web.

The 28 year old Mara, sister to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star Rooney, most recently impressed audiences with her psychotic portrayal of a woman scorned in American Horror Story.

Roseanne Barr seeks Green Party Presidential Nod

WASHINGTON (AP) — Roseanne Barr said Thursday she's running for the Green Party's presidential nomination — and it's no joke.

The actress-comedian said in a statement that she's a longtime supporter of the party and looks forward to working with people who share her values. She said the two major parties aren't serving the American people.

"The Democrats and Republicans have proven that they are servants -- bought and paid for by the 1% -- who are not doing what's in the best interest of the American people," Barr said.

Occupy Wall Street protesters popularized the "We are the 99 percent" slogan in their fight against economic disparity and perceived corporate greed.

Barr has submitted paperwork to the Green Party for her candidacy. The party's presidential nominee will be selected at a convention in Baltimore in July.

Barr said she has been fighting for working-class families and women for decades.

"I will barnstorm American living rooms," she said in a candidate questionnaire submitted to the Green Party. "Mainstream media will be unable to ignore me, but more importantly they will be unable to overlook the needs of average Americans in the run-up to the 2012 election."

Barr's hit TV sitcom "Roseanne" aired from 1988 to 1997 and earned her an Emmy and a Golden Globe. She played a wise-cracking mom in the comedy about a blue-collar family. Barr has a 46-acre macadamia nut farm in Hawaii.

Billy Ray is releasing a memior about being Miley's dad!!

Billy Ray Cyrus is the latest celebrity to sign up with Amazon.com

The singer of "Achy Breaky Heart" and father and former co-star of Miley Cyrus has a memoir, "Hillbilly Heart," coming in spring 2013.

Amazon.com, which has been aggressively expanding its publishing operation, announced Thursday that Cyrus would discuss with "great candor" everything from his early years to life as the parent of a teen superstar. Cyrus and his daughter starred together in the hit TV series "Hannah Montana."

Others with Amazon deals include actress-director Penny Marshall and actor James Franco. Those books, however, will not be available everywhere. Barnes & Noble Inc. announced earlier this week that it would not stock releases from its rival retailer.

Lamar & Khloe We Got a Mouth to Pee In, Too!

The Rolling Stones memorabilia museum in Germany isn't the only place in the world with giant mouth-shaped urinals -- Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian got one too ... and TMZ has a pic!!!

As we previously reported, several women in Germany are pissed over the lippy whiz receptacles in the German museum -- claiming they're demeaning to women -- but the museum owner is refusing to remove them ... because they're damn expensive.

But according to sources, Khloe and Lamar's urinal isn't so lucky -- and will be getting the heave-ho in the near future as part of a remodeling project in their Tarzana, CA home.

We're told it has nothing to do with how offensive the urinal may or may not be -- it just doesn't fit with the new decor ... so it's gotta go.

Katy Perry, Coldplay, + More to Perform at MusiCares Benefit Concert Honoring Paul McCartney

Not only will Katy Perry and Coldplay be performing on the Grammy Stage Feb. 12, the two popsters will be honoring Paul McCartney two days prior at this year’s MusiCares tribute concert. Alicia Keys is also listed as a performer.

Part of an annual tradition dating back to 1991, this year’s MusiCares Person of the Year concert will be held in Los Angeles, with tickets ranging from $1,500 to $100,000. It sounds awfully pricey, even with that lineup, but it’s for a good cause: MusiCares offers a safety net for musicians who need assistance in times of financial, personal, or medical crisis.

In addition to Coldplay, Perry, and Keys, this year’s list of performers includes Foo Fighters, Alison Krauss, Norah Jones, and past Person of the Year honorees James Taylor and Tony Bennett — as well as McCartney himself, who’ll be promoting his latest album, the collection of pop standards ‘Kisses on the Bottom.’

So what Beatles songs would you like Katy and Chris Martin to cover? Sound off in the comments below.

Ezra Miller Mega(-ish) Post!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Horror fans might not be familiar with the name Ezra Miller, but once Lynne Ramsay’s We Need to Talk about Kevin hits theaters on February 3rd, they will. Co-starring Tilda Swinton and John C. Reilly, directed by Ramsay (Morvern Callar), and based on the novel by Lionel Shriver, Miller plays the titular Kevin, a teenage sociopath who ultimately commits an atrocious crime at his high school. The film is told primarily through the perspective of his mother Eva (Swinton), as the two engage in a vicious cycle of resentment born of desperation. We Need to Talk about Kevin isn’t a psychological horror film in the traditional sense; instead it’s a full-on investigation of the parental psyche. The film, like the relationship between Eva and Kevin, is an act of emotional terrorism. We spoke to Ezra Miller about his outstanding performance, his perception and interpretation of Kevin, and the thought-provoking maternal themes in the film.

Super Bowl Ads: 10 Best Movie-Related Commercials

Super Bowl kickoff is just days away, and while we couldn't be more psyched to watch the New York Giants dismantle the New England Patriots (because, folks, that's what will happen, end of story), we're nearly as pumped to check out the game's high-profile movie ads.

Every year, corporate America pours millions of dollars into movie-related spots — some starring Hollywood A-listers, others riffing on classic films — in an attempt to convince inebriated football fans to buy cars, beer, junk food, deodorant and whatever else we probably don't need but which might make our sad, empty lives have more meaning. At least that's how we think ad agencies approach the biggest sporting event of the year.

In preparation for the commercial excellence coming our way Sunday, we took a look at Super Bowls past — as well as this year's pigskin classic — to pick the 10 greatest movie-related ads of all time.

Books of our childhood are being DESTROYED

Alvin Schwartz's collection of haunting tales Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is an important gateway drug into the world of the supernatural. And as terrifying as the stories about brides locked forever in an attic trunk truly are, it's the artwork by Stephen Gammell that kept you up at night.

Gammel's black and white monsters and images of exploding spider nests burrowing under your skin make children everywhere cry. They're beautiful and horrifying at the same time (and still haunt some of my most spectacular fever dreams even to this day). But now, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of this book trilogy, the publishers have decided to take a giant dump on Gammell's spooky legacy and replace his illustrations.

Lana Del Rey : I fucking love Eminem

Lana Mania rages on! Lana Del Rey engaged in a video chat with RNB Junk while in Milan, Italy, where she offered a bit of a peak into what makes the girl born Lizzy Grant tick. One declaration she made? “I f—-ing love Eminem.” Why? Because he taught her that music can have intellect and be from a real place. lmao I can't.

Del Rey looks uncomfortable in front of the camera and comes across as a bit shy, brushing those thick auburn locks out of her eyes in nervous habit fashion. She did the same on ‘SNL,’ so maybe that’s just how she is when the camera is on her.

She does mention that she is more concerned about how her vocals sound in her live performances and that supercedes the “show” and her movements, since she is trying to capture the sound people hear on the album.

She shared that when she first moved to New York City at 18, “I would take the train down to the beach and walked around the boardwalk for hours and wrote songs. I didn’t know anyone yet, I would sing into my phone. I couldn’t believe the ocean was so close to the city. It was beautiful. Those are inspirations for my record — beautiful places.”

In the second clip, she utters her expletive Eminem quote. She said that when she discovered the rapper, “It changed my life. I found out music could be intelligent. He wasn’t just rhyming for rhyme’s sake.” Del Rey also said explained how she can be influenced by both Em and Ol’ Blue Eyes – Frank Sinatra– summing it effectively by saying, “Eminem is the master of lyrics whereas Frank Sinatra is the master of vocals… I f—-ing love Eminem

meryl streep and julia roberts to star in 2013 weinstein co. oscar bait "august: osage county"

Theater buffs have been curious for a while now about the cinematic fate of “August: Osage County," Tracy Letts' 2008 Pulitzer Prize-winning family drama that has been in development as a movie for several years.

Now the film project--which would have Meryl Streep as pill-popping matriarch Violet Weston and Julia Roberts as her complicated adult daughter Barbara--looks to finally be taking a step forward.

An executive at the Weinstein Co., which owns rights to and has been developing the movie, said that a September schedule-opening for both Streep and Roberts could allow the movie to begin shooting in the fall. The executive, Weinstein Co. COO David Glasser, said the goal was for the film to wrap production by the end of 2012 and come out in the 2013 autumn awards season.

Collapse )

Roberts and Streep have an astounding 20 Oscar nominations between them, though that hasn’t stopped some theatergoers from fretting about the casting.

“August” tells of a dysfunctional Oklahoma family over a few summer weeks as they come to terms with various resentments and secrets.
The movie has a kind of gallows humor; Barbara, for instance, is prone to ripping off lines like “Thank God we can’t tell the future. We’d never get out of bed.” The play won a spate of awards when it first debuted, including a Pulitzer, a Tony and a Drama Desk prize. Many critics put it on their list of best plays of the 2000s.

First Image from Isabelle Huppert's new film with Hong Sang-soo

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

South Korean sales company Finecut Co Ltd has released the first images from In Another Country 다른 나라에서, the new HONG Sang-soo 홍상수 | 洪常秀 film that it is representing.

The film is the South Korean debut of leading French actress Isabelle HUPPERT. She plays three characters each with the same name who each visit the same seaside town and meet the same local residents. The rest of the cast, including YU Joon-sang 유준상 (pictured), are South Korean, but much of the dialogue is in English.

Another Country shot in summer 2011 and is currently in post-production. Finecut will screen a show reel at next week's European Film Market in Berlin. It expects to have the completed film ready by May, in time for the Cannes Film Festival, where two of Hong's last three films have played.

Can't wait for this and her sure to be brilliant collaboration with Haneke! Favorite Huppert film/performance?

I'm all for sharing, but why the online obsession with revealing every detail of your life?

Facebook and Spotify automatically want to share my every waking action, so that I'm like a character in The Sims. Hover the cursor over my head and watch that stat feed scroll.

Sharing. Now there's a basic social concept that has somehow got all out of whack. The idea behind sharing is simple. Let's say I'm a caveman. I hunt and slaughter a bison, but I can't eat it all myself, so I share the carcass with others, many of whom really appreciate it, such as my infirm 86-year-old neighbor who hasn't had a proper meal in weeks because he is incapable of killing anything larger than a woodlouse. Have you tried grilling a woodlouse? It's scarcely worth the effort.

But it's not all bison meat. Let's say I am still a caveman. The other thing I share is information: the thoughts inside my head or stirring tales of the things I have done. I grunt a hilarious anecdote about the time I dropped a huge rock on a duck and an egg popped out, and mime scandalous gossip about well-known tribesmen. I'm the life and soul of the cave-party.

'My fans should work all year to come and see me play live'

Madonna has shrugged off complaints that her live shows are too expensive and told her fans to "work all year" so they can spend their money on gig tickets.

Madonna will debut her new single 'Give Me All Your Luvin'' on American Idol this evening (February 2). The track features both MIA and [a]Nicki Minaj, who will join Madonna for her halftime show at this year's Super Bowl this weekend (February 5).

'MDNA' will be the pop icon's 12th studio album and is the follow-up to her 2008 effort 'Hard Candy'. She has faced criticism from anti-drugs campaigners for choosing an "ill-advised" title.
