Katniss and Bella in the same house? Lionsgate to buy Summit

The long-discussed combination of two of Hollywood's top independent studios is nearly a done deal.

Two sources confirm that Lionsgate is closing in on an agreement to acquire Summit Entertainment for about $400 million in cash plus the assumption of debt. The sources say the deal also includes the services Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger, the two top executives behind the studio that has ridden the Twilight movie franchise to the top ranks of Hollywood.

All of the deal points are not final but there is a general agreement, say the sources. An official announcement will take at least another few days and a final deal could take even longer.

As a public company, Lionsgate, which makes both films (Warrior, the Tyler Perry franchise, the upcoming Hunger Games) and television (Mad Men), would be required to disclose a tentative agreement that would be material to its stock price and future – which this certainly would be. Lionsgate, traded on the New York Stock Exchange, closed Friday at $8.41 a share, not far off it’s high for the past year.

Spokesmen for both Lionsgate and Summit, which is privately held, declined comment on Saturday.

The two companies have held merger discussions several times in recent years without ever reaching a deal. The latest talks heated up late in 2011. Also reportedly bidding for Summit was the new Miramax.

The other night, hot movie star Vanessa Hudgens was spotted back out in Los Angeles,California, attending the Lakers game with her man Austin Butler, and put on another kissing show for thousands of people this time. Katy Perry Speaks on Russell Brand Divorce: 'My heart is happy again'

Katy Perry has spoken out for the first time since her split from Russell Brand.

The singer thanked fans for their support and insisted they shouldn't believe everything that's written about the former couple in the press. Brand filed for divorce from Perry in December last year, citing irreconcilable differences for the split.

"I am so grateful for all the love and support I've had from people around the world. You guys have made my heart happy again," Perry wrote on Twitter.

"Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, "close sources" or my family."

Perry, who wanted Brand to be the one to file for divorce due to her religious parents, is said to be writing new songs about the split.

Brand admitted just days before the split that he missed his promiscuous past and it has since been claimed that he is hoping for a happier 2012.

Great Expectations star Douglas Booth talks about his sex scenes with Hailee Steinfeld, aged 15

Douglas Booth, who starred in Great Expectations, has been given a personal trainer to prepare for his love scenes in the film Romeo and Juliet with Hailee Steinfeld, 15

There has been much excitement about Douglas Booth’s relationship with Vanessa Kirby, his co-star in the television adaptation of Great Expectations. The actor appears, however, to be just as impressed by Hailee Steinfeld, 15, who stars opposite him in a forthcoming film version of Romeo and Juliet.

“We first saw each other at the Met Ball in New York,” the 19-year-old actor tells Mandrake. “Our eyes met across the room. It was surreal, like something out of the play – life imitating art.”

The film, which has a screenplay by Julian Fellowes and is directed by Carlo Carlei, is likely to be controversial because of Steinfeld’s age. “Doing sex scenes doesn’t bother me,” Booth says. “I’m comfortable in my own skin and they’re giving me a personal trainer to get in shape, so I’m not going to worry about it. I know Carlo and it will all be done really tastefully.”
He adds: “I think it’s only right that the leads are being played by young actors. After all, in the play they are young – it’s about first love. Hailee is young, but I know, from my own experiences too, that love can hit you at any age, so it is right. When you meet Hailee, you don’t think about her age – she’s an amazing actress.”

Dr. Dre Under Fire for Fox Fur Headphones

Animal rights group PETA is upset with Dr. Dre and Oscar de la Renta over a pair of limited edition fox fur headphones.

The special “Beats by Dre” headphones – on sale for a cool $695 through De La Renta’s website – deliver “rich, full sound from a portable and stylish unit.”

But they’re also “covered” in “luxe silver fox,” and PETA is not pleased.

In a letter obtained by Global Grind, organization official Michelle Cho urges Dr. Dre “to keep fur and exotic-animal skins out of your Beats by Dre designs.”

“With so many fashionable, cruelty-free materials available these days, we hope that you will keep animals in mind and choose not to use fur or exotic skins in your collection,” continues the letter.

Cho adds, “You have a tremendous amount of influence on young people – won’t you please consider using your platform to advocate kindness toward animals?”

There’s been no response yet from the rapper-enterpreneur. What do you think about the headphones?

David Lynch Remixes Zola Jesus

When David Lynch does a remix he doesn't skimp.

His take on the Zola Jesus track, "In Your Nature" from the album "Conatus," is a radical re-shaping of the song, keeping the vocals from the original and adding in new guitar and drum parts. Though Nika Roza Danilova, of Zola Jesus, ordinarily opts not to remix, she made an exception in this case.

"I feel like reinterpreting something can remove its context," she told Pitchfork. "But when David Lynch asks to remix your song, you let him."

Though Lynch is best known for his filmmaking (his most recent was the hallucinogenic epic "Inland Empire" in 2006), recently, he's turned serious about his music. This year, he released a new album, Crazy Clown Time.

For his remix of "In Your Nature," we hear some of those darkly-lit, lurking horrors we've seen in his films. What results is a slightly dreamy, deliberately paced lament that feels as if it should play over a moody driving scene on screen.

The Young Stars of War Horse

JEREMY IRVINE- Albert, who joins up to bring his horse, Joey, back from France

Sitting in his Los Angeles hotel, Irvine says he's "living the dream". But does he really mean that? The 21-year-old is the lead in War Horse and, after talking to me, is flying back to London to finish filming his role of Pip in Mike Newell's adaptation of Great Expectations. Surely not even his wildest dreams could have made room for this?

"I was pretty desperate to get noticed," he admits. "After one year at drama school, I traipsed round Soho knocking on agents' doors and popping DVDs of my work through letter boxes. But I hadn't actually done any work – I'd got together with a mate of mine who's a great cameraman and we'd shoot scenes that looked like they were out of professional productions and I cut them all together into a show reel."

Even when he was called for an audition for something called Dartmoor, he had no idea what it would entail until the brief script arrived. "I just recognised this scene of a boy talking to his horse as something I'd heard before," he says.

"I loved Michael Morpurgo's book when my parents read it to me when I was seven or eight, but I hadn't seen the play. Somehow I got a couple of tickets for it on the Friday night before I was due to go to the audition on the Monday, and I think that was really important."

It's almost pointless asking him how Spielberg is as a director, given that he has nothing else to compare him with. "On set, he often films the very first take, no rehearsal, and that demands you turn up and be as truthful and as present in the moment as you can possibly be. And when Spielberg's in charge, that seems to be very easy for everyone to do, not just me, but all the others were saying it too."

Spielberg famously sits in a director's chair with DAD written on the back. Is he really as paternal as all that? "He's more like the best teacher you've ever had. But he's also great at feigning innocence himself, so each shot is as if it's his first.

"Only after the day's shooting he'll suddenly start talking about how such and such a shot reminds him of something they did on Jaws, or he'll go into an anecdote about making ET, and you suddenly realise, my God, this is Spielberg I'm working with."

There's gonna be a third woman in the Star Trek sequel!!

AND she has melanin!

"EW has learned that Nazneen Contractor (24) has been cast in the upcoming sequel to J.J. Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek reboot. The actress has been tapped to play the wife of Dr. M'Benga Noel Clarke’s character in the film. (Variety reported earlier this week that the Doctor Who star has signed on as “a family man with a wife and young daughter.”)

Contractor is just one of the newcomers to come on board for the yet-to-be-titled Star Trek sequel. In addition to Contractor and Clarke, Benedict Cumberbatch, Peter Weller, and Alice Eve will all appear in the film, which will also feature original cast members Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. The eagerly anticipated follow-up, which has Abrams at the helm again with screenwriters Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, is scheduled to engage moviegoers May 17, 2013."

Tom Hiddleston Interview: Hints at Singledom

Twelve months ago, only fans of the BBC show Wallander or maybe those who saw him in Joanna Hogg's film Unrelated would've picked Tom Hiddleston out of a crowd. The past year has rather changed matters. Rarely, if ever, has a British actor made such an impression so swiftly – working back-to-back with Kenneth Branagh, Woody Allen, Terence Davies and now Steven Spielberg, he has not so much made a breakthrough as smashed his way into the public consciousness with all the force of a wrecking ball.

Even he can't quite fathom it. Recently he went back to Rada, where he trained. "Some of the staff wanted me to come back and give dispatches from the front line, to give an illustration of what students might expect on the other side of their training," he explains. "I sat in this room where I'd practised sword-fights and sonnets and Stanislavsky and it felt like I was there yesterday. And I remember saying, 'I'm supposed to be sitting in the chairs where you are, listening to Mike Leigh or Michael Sheen or whomever.' I couldn't believe I was the person giving the talk."

Coming Back Looking Delicious: An Immaculate Paris Hilton Post!!!

Paris to auction off Bentley for charity!

Paris Hilton is known for many things, some of them are positive, while others are much less flattering, and a part of these include connections to the automotive world. Over the years, Paris has been paying attention to the vehicles she drove. Not only did she choose rides such as a Lexus LFA, a fierce supercar, but she also wanter to have her cars customised.

One of her most special vehicles is a Bentley Continental GT that has received a pink custom treatment. The vehicle was tuned by West Coast Customs and was fitted with multiple exterior and interior pink elements. And we have to tell you that this is just one of Paris’ Bentleys.

However, it seems that she wants to remove one Bentley from her collection. In an interview, Paris revealed that she wants to auction off one of her Bentleys for charity.

“No spinoff, characters graduating, cool season next year.”

That is how Fox boss Kevin Reilly sums up the future plan for Glee, which he said will not be shuttling several characters off to a New York-based spin-off.

“Here’s whats going on with Glee,” Reilly told the press at the Television Critics Association winter tour on Sunday. “We are graduating the characters that are [due] to graduate, and what’s come out of it is Ryan [Murphy] and the guys have come up with a really cool idea.

“There will not be a Glee spinoff, but those characters will graduate and it’s led to a very interesting idea that I think is gonna really give us something cool to dig into next season.”

Reilly offered no further details, other than to confirm that “graduating” cast members such as Lea Michele will remain with the show going into Season 4 next fall.

Fox head: Futures of 'Fringe', 'House', 'Terra Nova' still uncertain

Fox is delaying a decision on the fate of House. Ditto Terra Nova and Fringe.

The network’s entertainment president, Kevin Reilly, told reporters at the Television Critics Association’s press tour that he and House creator David Shore “agreed mutually to put it off until after the first of the year. We haven’t had that meeting yet.” Reilly acknowledged that he’s been “avoiding” a firm decision because “it’s hard to imagine the network without House… It [is] going to be a close call.”

Should this be the last season of House, Reilly insisted that fans will get a satisfying ending. “It’s not going to be an unceremonious finish,” he assured.

Reilly all but ruled out the possibility of a spinoff. “That time has come and gone,” he said. “David never creatively found something that excited him.”

Regarding the status of fellow bubble show Terra Nova, Reilly said a decision will have to come down in the coming weeks. “We’ll decide very soon, because it does need to get back into production in the next month,” he said. “If [it doesn't come back], we made money on it [and] the audience enjoyed it.” Reilly acknowledged that the show “was hunting for itself creatively through the season.”

As far as Fringe is concerned, Reilly conceded, ”We lose a lot of money on the show. At that rating, on [Friday] night, its impossible to make money. We’re not in the business of losing money… [But] I’m not doing the soft cancel here. That’s another decision we will have to make.

“I do not want to drop the ball on the end and let the fans down,” he added. “Please don’t start the letter writing campaign now. I can’t take it. … We haven’t even sat down with the producers and the studio.”

Woman Murdered on Queen Elizabeth’s Estate Has Been Identified

The body of a woman found dead on Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham Estate have been identified as 17-year-old Alisa Dmitrijeva.

Dmitrijeva’s body was spotted in a wooded area on New Year’s Day, after the Queen and Prince Philip attended a nearby church service, his first public appearance since a Christmas health scare.

The young woman, who emigrated from Latvia, had gone missing on August 31 from her home in Cambridgeshire. She was last seen getting into a green Lexus with two friends.

In a press statement, Dmitrijeva’s family said, “We are devastated by the news of Alisa’s death… We wish to grieve in private and don’t want to speak with anyone from the press at this time.”

Detective Chief Inspector Jes Fry, who is heading the investigation into the murder, said, “We are still trying to establish any activity which took place on or around the site during the time frame of the end of August to the end of September 2011,” adding they are looking to speak to people “who may have worked in that area or were involved in organizing or running any specific events that may have taken place.”

The police do not believe it was a natural death, and are still treating it as a murder case.

Broncos QB Tebow plays catch with his favorite band

Rascal Flatts has sold millions of albums and won dozens of awards, but the band's greatest achievement might be the fact that it's Tim Tebow favorite.

The band and the fan converged Sunday at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver. NFL Network reporter Stacey Dales tweeted that Tebow played catch with the country-music stars, who will perform the national anthem before kickoff.

No word if Brady Quinn took away any of Tebow's reps with the guys from the band. There's also no confirmation on how many of Tebow's passes were completed.

If Tebow can figure out a way to upset the Steelers on Sunday, hopefully Rascal Flatts will write a song in his honor. Tebowmania is overdue for a proper folk song.

Just an excuse for a football post. IK my husband the Broncos have no chance against Big Ben, but I am hoping for a miracle again at Mile High, or for at least a close game. And I'm bummed theres no Packers game this week, but we'll continue to dominate next week. And LOL at Atlanta handing the game to the Giants.

24 movie to begin shooting this spring

Fans of Jack Bauer have something to look forward to. A movie based on the old Fox series "24" is scheduled to begin shooting this spring.

Actor Kiefer Sutherland said Sunday that he expects to go to work on the movie in late April or May. Sutherland played Bauer, the centerpiece on the pulse-quickening adventure series that ended its television run in 2010.

Even with the movie ahead of him, Sutherland is already working on a new Fox series. "Touch" features him as the father of a super-intelligent son. Fox will offer a sneak preview of the show Jan. 25 before it joins the network schedule in March.

Max Irons for Macy's INC Men's Collection

It was English actor Max Irons’ “natural style” that prompted Macy’s to sign him as the new face of its INC men’s collection.

“We liked his polish and the fact that he isn’t well known yet in the U.S.,” said Nancy Slavin, senior vice president of marketing for Macy’s Merchandising Group. “But he’s on a trajectory and is quintessentially this brand. He wears the clothes very naturally.”

The ads, shot by Walter Chin and styled by Bill Mullen, are in black and white and feature Irons, son of Academy Award-winning actor Jeremy Irons, in both tailored and casual INC looks. It is the first time Macy’s has used an actor as a spokesman for the brand.

Irons will be featured online and his image will be in the 631 stores that carry the collection, beginning in February, when the shops are converted to spring merchandise, Slavin said. In addition, a short video of Irons discussing his personal style will be imbedded in the QR codes found in the INC departments, allowing customers with smartphones to view the film. “We’ve done similar things with Martha Stewart, Tommy Hilfiger, Rachel Roy and Bobbi Brown,” Slavin said, “and we’ve had huge customer engagement with these videos.”

Mischa Barton talks to Fabulous

Best known for playing tortured teen Marissa Cooper in The OC, Mischa Barton, 25, has partied hard. We caught up with the tricky madam over a healthy green tea to talk about her new clean-living regime, body image and that Fearne Cotton show.

Storm in a teacup, anyone?
Where Carluccio's, Market Place, London

Hey Mischa! You're looking fantastic right now. Are you on a detox?

I have been, but in England I eat what I like. I love bangers and mash! But in LA, I've been eating healthily and exercising.

It looks like it's paying off. Are you enjoying your green tea?

It's yummy! I'm a big tea fan.

You've got a new range of handbags out. Do you prefer that to acting?

I like designing, but I'm always an actress first and foremost.

And you've made a film with Martin Sheen, Bhopal: A Prayer For Rain. When can we expect that out?

[Looks vacant] I'm not totally sure. That was filmed a while ago, like in 2009.

OK... [Battling to stay upbeat] What else have you got in the pipeline?

I have a lot of offers, but I'm not actively looking to work. I've hit a place where I've had enough of the media attention.

Time out must be nice! What about The OC cast - are you still in touch?

He is small, black (hard to see at night), and doesn't bark so he doesn't make a sound (because I teach my dogs that barking is bad) and also he isn't even a year old! (mother of the year imo)

I lost it (like a little girl) and started bawling when she told me. Seriously, I was so dramatic (hard to believe, I know), but I don't have children and they are my babies that I sleep with every night. (fun fact: kellegend also sleeps with 9 guns in case u try 2 viol8 her propertarily)

Is the worst baby name of the century actually about something far more sinister?

Is Ivy Blue Latin for Lucifer's Daughter?

On January 8, 2012, ABC News reported that Beyonce and husband Jay-Z welcomed a baby girl named Ivy Blue.   Born Beyonce Giselle Knowles, the singing diva is no stranger to unusual names.  Her husband’s birth name is Shawn Corey Carter but the world better knows this successful entrepreneur, rapper, and producer as “Jay-Z.”  Maybe it shouldn’t come as  a surprise that the couple chose to name their baby Ivy Blue, which is far more conservative than some other baby names, such as the unusual selection by Gwyneth Paltrow of “Apple” or the bizarre choice of “Pilot Inspektor” by Jason Lee, or Jermaine Jackson’s son “Jermajesty.”  What might be more surprising than the name choice, is the way social media networking sites have responded to Beyonce’s baby’s name.  Spreading like wildfire on Twitter is the topic “Eulb Yvi is Latin for Lucifer’s daughter.”  The suggestion is that “Ivy Blue” backwards is "Eulb Yvi," and means “Lucifer’s daughter” in Latin. Another proposal is that Blue stands for "Born Living Under Evil" and that Ivy stands for "Illuminati's Very Youngest."

Is there any truth to this Internet rumor?  Do the words “Yvi” and “Elub” hold some secret, satanic meaning to the most diabolical of Satan worshipers?  Does Lucifer have a daughter and if so, who is she?  Collapse )
