Harper's Bazaar feat models & musical goddesses Charlotte Gainsbourg and Sky Ferreira!!

Toni Garrn, Rose Smith, David Agbodji, Ian Mellencamp, Arthur Kulkov, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Lykke Li, Sky Ferreira all in one room: must be another night at the Standard. Harper's Bazaar heads to the hotel’s fabled Boom Boom room for a story that sets out to capture the vibrant energy of Manhattan’s late night scene. With a mix of models, actors, actresses, musicians, a cameo from artist Richard Phillips and even a glimpse of New York’s reigning social fixture Derek Blasberg the story by Alexi Lubomirski gets the feel of rooftop party right.  Brana Wolf's selective styling never fails to impress and here she features a range of looks, from classic chic Dior to offbeat Miu Miu. All in all the story is gorgeous – with one small flaw, David’s handsome face barely makes it into any images! The party could have benefited from a few shots of Mr. Agbodji.

She's Jenny from the Block...but is that block in L.A.?

As part of a new multimillion-dollar endorsement deal with Fiat, Jennifer Lopez has shot several TV commercials for the Italian automaker, placed the Fiat 500 in her latest music video, and even put the vehicle center stage during her performance Sunday night at the American Music Awards.

But while the brand building and cross-promotion campaign is both lucrative and far-reaching, the star does have her collaborative limits. Specifically, the 42-year-old actress will not visit the Bronx in service of shilling the subcompact car.

While Lopez, Fiat, the automotive firm’s PR people, and its Detroit ad agency would have consumers believe that the star deigned to return home to film a low-speed pilgrimage through the gritty streets of her hometown, she actually never set foot in the Bronx during the filming of the Fiat spots.

Do you guys remember that genre flick starring Method Man called THE MORTICIAN? I don't blame you if you don't, the last time we talked about that shite was way back in September of last year. Now for some reason I happened to remember this little treat so when news dropped today on when Lionsgate will be releasing it, well I decided to rush right over here to tell all of you!

It seems Gareth Maxwell Roberts’ genre thriller is gearing up to drop on DVD, Digital Download and On Demand on February 14, 2012.What a perfect flick to watch on Valentine's Day! Unless you're planning on getting some of course...

The Mortician processes corpses with a steely regard. He is alienated and cold. He feels threatened by his new employee, Noah, who brings the notorious gangster, Carver, to the mortuary door. The Mortician’s attention is pricked by the tattoo of Botticelli’s 'Birth of Venus' on the body of a murdered young woman, Jenny. A fleeting recognition triggers a sequence of haunting dreams from his childhood. He discovers a scared child, Kane, fleeing the morgue. Carver interrogates him about the whereabouts of the boy. The Mortician witnesses Noah drag Kane into the shadows of a derelict tenement. Forcing him to act, Kane sparks the Mortician’s emotional awakening. Emerging from his icy state, the Mortician and Kane become reluctant allies united in their struggle to escape the physical and emotional chains that threaten to imprison them.

The Mortician is a redemption tale that triumphs kindness over cruelty.

Sporting a cast that includes Method Man, Dash Mihok, EJ Bonilla, Judy Marte, Ava Santana (below), Angelic Zambrana, Edward Furlong, Dana Fuchs, Wendell Pierce, Anthony Michael Fredrick, Luis Da Silva Jr. and Cruz Santiago, THE MORTICIAN's only special feature will be a featurette titled "Autopsy: Dissecting The Mortician."

Mark it on your calenders folks - Let Method Man and THE MORTICIAN into your homes come February 14, 2012!

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley: 'I used to look like Ugly Betty'

She's a world-renowned supermodel who was deemed so stunning that she could replace Megan Fox in the Transformers films - but Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wasn't always so drop-dead gorgeous.

The 24-year-old British beauty has peaches and cream skin, a pin-thin frame and flowing blonde locks, but she says that her good looks only came later in life.

However unbelievable it seems, the Victoria's Secret stunner says she looked like Ugly Betty as a teen.

Betty, of course, is the ABC character America Ferrera made famous for her frizzy hair, horrible wardrobe and ever-present braces.

'I was a bit of an Ugly Betty when I was 15,' she confides in the new issue of America's Harper's Bazaar magazine.

Björk Performs “Crystalline” On Jools Holland

Björk hasn’t exactly been giving the full-court promotional press to her new album Biophilia. But she did recently make an increasingly rare TV visit, showing up with her giant bank of weird instruments and her awkwardly rocking-out choir on the newest episode of Later With Jools Holland. In the video below, she sings the single “Crystalline” and gives a nice glimpse of her current live show, and it’s fun to watch an actual human being pound out that Aphex Twin-style drum breakdown on electronic drum pads.

Drake, Childish Gambino, and the Specter of Black Authenticity

Neither rapper is a conventional hip-hop star, and each deal with that fact in different ways.

As Drake says, "jealousy is just love and hate at the same time," and with the gaudy sales estimates of his new album, Take Care, jealousy is in the air. Haters lament Drake's brand of sing-along pop/hip-hop fusion. Lovers revel in Drake's wordplay, appreciate his self-examination, and nod their heads to the seductive beats on his new record. Several rungs below him on the hip-hop ladder, upstart Childish Gambino (aka comedian Donald Glover, who plays Troy on NBC's Community) has his own collection of supporters and detractors. Glover's Camp is prickly and captivating, driven by hipster-hip-hop sensibilities. Standing at different stations of success, neither Drake nor Glover embodies the stereotypes of rap music superstardom or expectations of black authenticity. Their strategies for negotiating these expectations are different, yet eerily similar, and vital for understanding connections between racism and sexism.

In hip-hop, pressure to "keep it real" is largely driven by the encroachment of the music business on the mythically pure music of the urban poor. This idea of artistic authenticity is racially encoded, as corporate investment laid the path for massive white audience consumption of black performance. "Real" blackness in commercial rap often requires hyper-masculine claims to dangerous ghetto experience, sexual power, and conspicuous consumption. Critics argue that commercial rap is nothing more than actors performing racist stereotypes of black male deviance in a soulless attempt to cash in. The key point here is that "racial" authenticity is not merely racial—it depends on a particular version of dominating manhood for its cultural and commercial appeal.

Daniel Radcliffe: Actor We're Most Thankful For In 2011

'Harry Potter' star refers to 2011 as 'not a breakout year, a breakaway year.'

After our nods to rising stars Elizabeth Olsen, Michael Fassbender and Tom Hiddleston, MTV Movies' Thankful Week continues with — drum roll, please — the actor we're most thankful for in 2011: Daniel Radcliffe.

Really, what's not to like about this talented young man? He's dazzled audiences for more than a decade as "the boy who lived" in eight "Harry Potter" films and has most recently been the talk of the Great White Way with his critically acclaimed work in the musical "How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying." We feel pretty confident in saying that the future looks bright for this guy.

MTV News recently caught up with Radcliffe to get a sense of how he's feeling post-Potter and where he wants to be in 10 years.

MTV: This is your first full year working outside "Harry Potter." How has it been?

Daniel Radcliffe: It's been a great first year away from "Potter." It's been very successful. I've done some work I'm really proud of in that time, particularly onstage in "How to Succeed." Just the process of doing it and doing it and doing it, I've got so much better, I think, during the run, as is the way it should be. It's been a great year, but I think next year is the big one for me. "The Woman in Black" is coming out, and I've also got a couple other things I'll be doing. The next two or three years are going to be pretty important, I think, and if [2011] is not a breakout year, it's a breakaway year.

Hailee Steinfeld Miu Miu ad deemed ‘irresponsible’

An image from the True Grit star's advertising campaign showing the teenager crying on railway tracks has been pulled.

The Advertising Standards Authority ruled that the image below, showing the 14-year-old actress sat on a train track and wiping away what could be tears from her eyes, was irresponsible because it depicted a child in an unsafe location.

Prada Retail UK, who own the Miu Miu brand, said the image, captured by renowned fashion photographer and film-maker Bruce Weber, was "part of a serious, high-fashion campaign" and "based on the set of an imaginary film".
Prada also claimed that it was clear that Steinfeld "could have easily moved from where she was sitting because she was not restrained in any way", but the ASA ruled that the potentially hazardous railway setting was "irresponsible" considering her age.

The vogue for casting child actresses in ad campaigns has raised eyebrows in the fashion industry, not least because the dresses Steinfeld can be seen modelling, for the current season, cost upwards of £1,000. Dakota Fanning, a fellow teenage film actress, had one of the images from her Marc Jacobs' Oh, Lola! fragrance campaign banned because the position of the perfume bottle - between her legs - was deemed sexually provocative.
In contrast, Miu Miu's forthcoming new ad campaign features model Guinevere Van Seenus, who, at 34 years old, is more the twice Steinfeld's age.

There's nothing wrong with the ad and it is gorgeous. Stay mad, ASA

Hendrix deemed #1 guitarist of all time; John Frusciante underrated, as usual, at #72

(Reuters) - Legendary musician Jimi Hendrix was named the greatest guitar player in history on Wednesday by Rolling Stone magazine in a list compiled by a panel of music experts and top guitar players.

"Jimi Hendrix exploded our idea of what rock music could be: He manipulated the guitar, the whammy bar, the studio and the stage," said Grammy-winning guitarist Tom Morello in the magazine, citing Hendrix's "Purple Haze" and "The Star-Spangled Banner" as key tracks.

Hendrix is joined by the likes of Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page and Pete Townshend among the top 10, in a list laden with rock 'n' roll icons spanning decades.

The panel of experts recruited to vote for their favorite guitar players included musicians such as Lenny Kravitz, Eddie Van Halen (who was voted No. 8), Brian May and Dan Auerbach from The Black Keys, along with a selection of Rolling Stone's senior writers and editors.

The experts also weighed in on their favorites, with Pearl Jam's Mike McCready calling Eddie Van Halen "a master of riffs" and Joe Perry praising Jimmy Page's "vision of how to transcend the stereotypes of what the guitar can do."

The full list will be featured in a special issue with four special covers of Van Halen, Clapton, Hendrix and Page, and will be on newsstands and online at on Friday. Rolling Stone's top 10 greatest guitarists follow:

1. Jimi Hendrix

2. Eric Clapton

3. Jimmy Page

4. Keith Richards

5. Jeff Beck

6. B.B. King

7. Chuck Berry

8. Eddie Van Halen

9. Duane Allman

10. Pete Townshend

Kelis: ‘The Best Artists Are Not The Pop Stars’

In celebration of their 20th anniversary, Dazed & Confused co-founder Rankin exclusively photographed 20 covers for the magazine’s December issue. Featured within the 20 artists, musicians and actors is singer Kelis, who shared her wisdom when it comes to being a true artist in the industry. According to Kelis, there is a difference between a pop star and an artist, and she explains why she tells new artists to “do something else” when they ask her for her advice.

“To me the best artists are the people we believe, and so I think those are not the pop stars. Those are usually the ones that, you know, are not always perfect. That’s the difference between being a pop star and being an artist. I think the word artist — I say this all the time — gets thrown around so lightly. It’s like the word love. You can’t put the two [together], they’re not the same. I think neither one is right or wrong, but I want to be in a group of believers. I want people to believe me because that’s what art’s about. It’s about someone finding a connection in who you are. Seeing [themselves] in it. Or wanting to see [themselves] in it.

Honestly my advice to new artists is always, ‘If you can do something else, you should.’ Because I think that what makes artists great is that they literally can’t do anything else. You think about all the people that you’ve loved in the past or all the artists or musicians or painters or whatever. They do it because if you don’t get it out, it becomes something negative, it becomes something too much, it’s overwhelming. I think if you’re wanting to be an artist because you want to be…you probably shouldn’t do it. You should do something else. It’s easier.”

The Vampire Diaries Brings Paul Newman’s Grandson to Mystic Falls

If you’ve ever seen Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Cool Hand Luke, or The Color of Money, then you are aware of legendary actor Paul Newman. Well, starting in Season 3, Episode 11, “Our Town,” his grandson Daniel Newman (One Tree Hill, Heroes) will be joining the Mystic Falls crew on The Vampire Diaries. Newman will play Daniel Warren, a mysterious stranger.

We know how well mysterious strangers usually fare on TVD, and considering Newman has roles in The Great Gatsby and The Dark Knight Rises coming up, it seems unlikely that this newcomer will be cooling his heels at the Grill for long.

Sharon Tate Ring Is LEGIT, We Have Proof

The auction house behind the controversial Sharon Tate "engagement ring" tells TMZ ... it has written confirmation from Roman Polanski verifying the authenticity of the jewelry ... and claims it WILL NOT yank the item from the auction block.

TMZ broke the story ... Sharon's sister Debra insisted the ring wasn't Sharon's "official" engagement ring -- and also claimed it was NOT on her finger the night she was murdered by the Manson family.

But a rep for the auction house tells us, "It was speculated that the ring was on Sharon Tate's finger at the time of death but never confirmed so we do not dispute Tate's sister Debra's claim."

The rep adds, "We do, however, have photographic proof of Tate wearing the ring (seen above) and written confirmation from Roman Polanski stating that this was, in fact, the engagement ring that he gifted to his then-fiancee, Sharon Tate."

"Gotta Have It! along with the consigner are 100% confident in the authenticity of the ring. There are no plans to pull the ring from the Gotta Have Rock and Roll Pop Culture auction as the consigner, who maintains ownership of the ring, is committed to its sale."

Currently, the ring is scheduled to hit the auction block on November 30.

It's official: Plans for One Life To Live and All My Children's Internet move canceled

Sorry, soap fans: The painful economics of running daytime dramas on the internet have made it impossible to keep the shows alive after they’ve been yanked off of broadcast TV. Prospect Park announced today that its hope to move One Life to Life and All My Children to a planned Online Network in 2012 has been shuttered, dashing any hope of keeping Llanview and Pine Valley fans satiated.

The media and production company founded in 2009 by Jeffrey Kwatinetz and former Disney Studios head Rich Frank was unable to reach guild deals to make the soaps’ run on the internet a reality. Arrangements with the unions were necessary if Prospect Park wanted to also sell the soaps to cable, but it’s economically unfeasible to pay guild wages for an internet show that would generate a fraction of the revenue it once did on ABC.

As it was, Prospect Park was already having a dilly of a time closing deals with the AMC actors (hey, Susan Lucci!), so it had to delay the show’s planned return in January: Only Cameron Mathison (Ryan Lavery) and Lindsay Hartley (Dr. Cara Castillo Martin) had agreed to continue after it ended its ABC run in September. In contrast, OLTL’s Erika Slezak (Victoria Lord), along with Ted King (Tomas Delgado), Michael Easton (John McBain) and Kassie DePaiva (Blair Cramer), among others, has closed deals to stay in the fictitious town of Llanview after it sunsetted on ABC this January.

The company released this statement: "After five months of negotiations with various guilds, hundreds of presentations to potential financial and technology partners, and a hope that we could pioneer a new network for the future, it is with great disappointment that we are suspending our aspirations to revive One Life to Live and All My Children via online distribution. It is now becoming clear that mounting issues make our ability to meet our deadlines to get OLTL on the air in a reasonable time period following its Jan. 13, 2012 ABC finale impossible.

Jeremy Renner Covers 'Details' Magazine Dec/Jan 2012

Jeremy Renner is all man on the December/January 2012 cover of Details, on stands November 29.

Here’s what the 40-year-old two-time Academy Award nominee opened up about:

On fixing up old houses while auditioning: “I wasn’t super-happy being so poor. Eating on $10 a month—probably not very good for you. But I loved what I was doing. Not every actor gives their life to do this job. Some just do it as a job. Well, it’s my life.”

On how rebuilding houses compares to filmmaking: “Building a house is like producing a movie. There’s no right way to do it, but a lot of wrong ways. You have to be flexible and creative. You have to move fast, be prepared—or it quickly becomes costly. These sound like life lessons. It certainly affected how I approach my life.”

On past relationships: “I never dated, because I couldn’t afford to date. I didn’t even have electricity. You try to put a positive spin on it, like, ‘Hey, this is so sexy—look at all these candles!’ But I loved what I was doing. The sacrifices I made in personal relationships had the biggest effect on my life. Even now, any woman would take a No. 2 seat to my job.”

On his acting gigs: “I’m blessed to have cool roles in these big movies. Because nothing against Transformers, but thank God I don’t have to do a monologue to a robot. I don’t know how Shia [LaBeouf], God bless him, does that.”

On tabloids: “I don’t pay attention to that horses–t. Build ‘em up to bring ‘em down? I’m not going on that train, my son. I’m not going on that train. I’ll walk. I’ll take a bike. (laughs) I’d rather just not be popular.”

The Walking Dead producers respond to the outcry over the abortion storyline

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Googling “The Walking Dead” and “abortion” yields hundreds of results from the past week—sites ranging from Jezebel to the ACLU have written about a plot turn in the Nov. 20 episode. And they’re all really mad about it.

In the course of AMC’s successful post-apocalyptic zombie drama, Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies)—one of the survivors—has had sex with two men, one of whom is her husband. She has found out she is pregnant and, because they’re in zombie hell, decides to end the pregnancy. In the recent Season 2 episode in question, she takes a bunch of tablets labeled “morning-after pills.” But, like so many TV characters before her when faced with this decision, she changes her mind and throws them up.

What got the Internet upset is the misinformation the show spread by showing Lori taking a handful of morning-after pills when she is weeks' pregnant with the aim to no longer be pregnant. The Walking Dead is adding to the confusion between emergency contraception such as Plan B (which is, indeed, a morning-after pill, and prevents a woman’s egg from being fertilized) and RU-486 (which is administered by doctors and does cause abortion).

Katy Perry heading for that 6th number one!!

Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream' Yields Sixth Hot 100 Top 10 with The One That Got Away

Katy Perry squeezes in yet another impressive achievement for which to be thankful this year.

Her "Teenage Dream" album becomes just the seventh album in the 53-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 to generate at least six top 10s, as "The One That Got Away" leaps 15-10.

The song joins the set's first five singles, all of which reached No. 1: "California Gurls," featuring Snoop Dogg; the title cut, "Firework"; "E.T.," featuring Kanye West; and, "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)"

All charts will be refreshed tomorrow (Nov. 24), as they are each Thursday, on

A more mammoth milestone could still lie ahead for Perry: with one more No.1 from the set, "Teenage Dream" would pass Michael Jackson's "Bad" to become the first album to generate six Hot 100 No. 1s.

Now in its 65th week on the Billboard 200, "Teenage Dream" has sold 1.9 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. [in another life...]

Al Pacino looks dishevelled as he shuffles around the shops

Dishevelled, wild-eyed and sporting a hair style even Phil Spector wouldn’t touch with a barge pole, these days Al Pacino certainly isn’t the Godfather of style.

The legendary actor looked more like a tramp than a Hollywood superstar on a shopping trip with his son Anton James in Beverly Hills yesterday.

Although the father-of-three is coming up to his 72nd birthday it seems The Godfather actor is expecting to pile on the pounds as his clothes were oversized with his baggy black trousers swamping the Scarface actor's frame.

Kelly's Live from the Troubadour

Kelly's VEVO posted a music video compiling some of her performances at the Troubadour on October 19. She's absolutely brilliant. I'm excited for her What Doesn't Kill You era. It's going to be a blast! I definitely think Stronger is her best album to date. My favourite songs are: What Doesn't Kill You, I Forgive You, Hello, The War Is Over, Let Me Down, Alone... what are yours, ONTDers?

While plenty of viewers would look at the show’s male characters as the driving force of the series, it’s actually the women who give real depth to the story line, displaying grit, perseverance, and doing whatever it takes to protect themselves and their families. These incredible characters manage to do this despite the fact that they are often treated as second-class citizens.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the women warriors of Westeros.
