Hugh Laurie Had No Idea Lisa Edelstein Was Abandoning Show

House fans were shocked to learn that Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) would be leaving the show without any notice after executives said she and her co-stars would have to take pay cuts and now we’ve come to learn that House star Hugh Laurie was just as shocked.

Speaking to Zap2It Laurie said of the news:

“[Lisa's departure] came out of left field in my world too,” while he added, ”I don’t know who was privy to what at what time, but it was a great shock to me and everyone obviously misses her very greatly. Not only was she a great asset to the show as a performer, but we also just miss her company, because she is an absolute hoot to have around. She has been snapped up by another show and damn right, they’d be nuts not to. I hope she is having a great time, and I am sure she is.”

The other show Hugh is speaking of is The Good Wife in which Cuddy has a four episode arch.

Laurie also spoke about the future of the show, noting:

“Nobody has pounded the table and said, ‘Dammit, this is the last, and I’ll see you all in court!’ We’re all enjoying what we’re doing and proud of it. I think that’s the main thing. As long as… it’s a worthy endeavor, that’s its own reward. I have a feeling that we’ll all know come February or so, whether this is something that we should be going on with or not.”

Behind Google's Freddie Mercury Doodle

Go behind the scenes of one of the most involved Google doodles ever.

Google is celebrating what would have been Freddie Mercury's 65th birthday on Monday with its second longest doodle to date.

The 98-second-long animation shows the lead singer of the British rock band Queen navigating through a crazy world inspired by his own lyrics. In one scene that looks like an old-school video game, Mercury bounces off clouds, flies on a tiger and shoots at aliens from a spaceship, all to his hit song "Don't Stop Me Now."

Doodler Jennifer Hom was the brains behind the elaborate doodle, which was a team effort. She and other illustrators spent about three months putting the whole thing together. They even studied a bunch of old Queen albums and videos to pick out visual cues.

"My obsession with Freddie Mercury affected everyone else around me," she said.

They decided to go with the song "Don't Stop Me Now" because it's one of Queen's top 10 hits of all time, plus Mercury actually wrote it.

Mercury also wrote such classics as "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "We Are the Champions." He died of bronchopneumonia resulting from AIDS in 1991, just one day after announcing he had the disease.

"Considering how colorful Freddie's career was, we wanted to create a doodle that was just as colorful," said Hom, who tried to squeeze in as many humorous and respectful references that she could.

Viewers may notice references to "Bicycle," "A Crazy Little Thing Called Love," "I Want to Break Free," "Flash" and more.

The Mountain View-based search giant published the Mercury doodle worldwide on its homepage Monday, except for in the US, which will be celebrating Mercury's birthday on Tuesday because of a conflict with Labor Day.

"We're all really excited because it is such a big doodle," Hom said. "It's definitely not our normal doodle."

Google's two-minute video tribute to Charlie Chaplin is the only doodle with a longer run time than the Mercury doodle.

Carey Mulligan to Star in Nicolas Winding Refn’s Sex Film I WALK WITH THE DEAD

http://i.imgur.com/YCTQP.jpg

Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive is currently garnering raves left and right, and he’s already got a stacked schedule of films lined up for the future. Refn’s set to start filming Only God Forgives with Drive star Ryan Gosling, Kristin Scott Thomas and Luke Evans soon, he’s got a remake of Logan’s Run (also with Gosling) in the works, and now he’s found his lead for the sex thriller I Walk With the Dead. The director announced at the Deauvill Film Festival (via THR) that another Drive cohort, Carey Mulligan, will star in the already financed film.

We don’t know much about I Walk With the Dead, but Refn told The Playlist in 2009 that he wrote the pic because he had always wanted to “make a movie with lots of sex.” The flick apparently takes place in Miami and features copious amounts of bumpin’ uglies. Everything I’ve seen (and heard) from Drive has been fantastic, and Refn definitely has a penchant for thinking outside the box, so count me in.

The Isaac Hanson Trio covers Weezer's Troublemaker

Yes, that Hanson covering that Weezer. The Hot 100 No. 1 boys (and brothers) of "MMMbop" are now the men of "Shout It Out," which reach No. 2 on the Billboard Top Independent Albums chart last year. And they came to the Billboard studio to fire up a sweet and simple version of Weezer's No. 2 Alternative Songs chart hit.

"Weezer's an amazing band… What I've always admired is the fact that they really have an identifiable thing going, which is sort-of-pop songs -- but heavy," singer Taylor Hanson says of why they went with Weezer for their Mashup Mondays performance. "'Troublemaker' is such a cool attitude-ridden track."

"Making it a Hanson song was mainly about the rhythm, having a groove" eldest brother, guitarist Issac explains.

Youngest brother, drum Zac Hanson, adds that the key to the cover was to "not try to be Weezer, and have our own swagger about it."

Not that they have to try hard. Not many bands can say they've been in a Katy Perry video (Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)) and on a world tour at the same time. Hanson's run of the U.S. goes through Nov. 1, and then jumps over to South America on Nov. 4 before jumping over to Europe with dates through Jan. 2011.

Dance Moms: guilty pleasure or child abuse TV?

After seeing endless promos for "Dance Moms" (Wed. 10 p.m. on Lifetime) during "Project Runway," I felt compelled to check out this hour-long trainwreck even as the very concept made my blood run cold. After seeing the show, I have to say -- that first impression isn't exactly off.

The saving grace (if we can call it that) of this show is how little the children actually matter. Just as they seem to be peripheral to the drama of their own mothers' lives, they are little more than plot devices here. While they will probably need therapy for many, many reasons once they are adults (or, you know, really right now), the content of this television show isn't likely to be one of them. For the most part, these kids seem well-behaved and enthusiastic about dance. It's the moms who need to be put into rubber rooms.

Gillian Anderson possibly confirms X-Files 3!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Remember when David Duchovny said way back when that a third X-Files movie was in the works? Now his co-star Gillian Anderson seems to be following suit.

In an interview with Australian television presenter Kylie Speer, Anderson confirmed that a new movie was being prepped for next year. Tweeted Speer, "Just interviewed Gillian Anderson...she is super stunning in real life and said she hopes a new #X-Files 2012 movie will be out next year!" Of course, this may be optimistic speculation on Anderson's part — a statement from Chris Carter could make this business official.

Colin Firth: Film Industry Underestimates Audiences' Intelligence

Filmgoers are being underestimated by the movie industry and not being offered enough intelligent work that might require some concentration, the actor Colin Firth said at a screen version of John le Carré's classic spy novel was shown at the Venice film festival.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy had its world premiere in Venice, one of three British films in competition for the Golden Lion. As if on cue, the hot, muggy Italian weather that the city has had over the last five days was replaced by British rain and grey skies.

Firth spoke to journalists after the film's first screening, joined by the film's lead Gary Oldman – who plays George Smiley – and actors John Hurt, Benedict Cumberbatch and Mark Strong.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are looking at enrolling their brood at a primary in South West London. Brad Pitt's movie World War Z has over run and that is apparently the primary reason for this decision.

Soulja Boy: "Fuck All The Army Troops" in new rap

@0:40

A proud military veteran is demanding an apology from Soulja Boy -- after the rapper posted a video saying, "f**k the army troops."

Soulja ignited a wave of controversy this week over his new song, "Let's Be Real" -- which includes the lyrics:

"F**k the FBI and the army troops ... fighting for what? Be your own man ...
... I'll be flying through the clouds with green like I'm Peter Pan."

TMZ spoke with Fred A. Flores -- a retired Marine who is now a commissioner for the L.A. County Veteran’s Advisory Commission. Flores tells us, "It's a very offensive statement ... especially with the 10th anniversary of 9/11 coming up."

Flores -- who has two children currently serving in the military -- calls Soulja "Ungrateful" ... adding, "He should apologize to ALL armed forces."

"[Therap] is very irresponsible," Flores stated ... "especially for a person who is an entertainer for the youth of our country."

Soulja Boy's rep refused to comment.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy Is Good, Not Superb Spy Thriller

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Matt Mueller reviews Tomas Alfredson’s Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy, which made its world premiere in Venice.

“Trust no one,” says John Hurt, in fine fettle here as British spymaster Control, in the early stages of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. In the case of the talent behind this top-class adaptation, they’re words not to be heeded. Attempting to rival the BBC’s superior 1979 serialisation of John Le Carre’s espionage classic – about the hunt for a Soviet mole in the British secret service (‘The Circus’, as Le Carre dubs it) – with a two-hour movie that couldn’t possibly bring the same depth or subtlety may have seemed a foolhardy proposition to many, but the talent wrangled for the mission is magnificently trustworthy.

Swedish director Tomas Alfredson, hot off the impressive child-vampire thriller Let The Right One In, makes an ideal candidate to handle Tinker’s chilly, melancholic intrigue and serve up a dispassionate portrait of miserable, paranoid spies. Gary Oldman too is an actor with the finely calibrated talent to wipe memories of Alec Guinness’ iconic performance as George Smiley, the nondescript intelligence analyst whose sad, drab exterior masks a fluent, animated intellect. Pile on a helping of stellar British thesps with career heat to burn (Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ciaran Hinds, Mark Strong and Toby Jones) and this makes for compelling adult entertainment.

Alfredson’s approach to Le Carre’s tale is diligent, honourable, astute, a carefully executed whodunit that captures the stark drabness of early ‘70s Cold War Britain (the hair, suits and skin pallor all marvellously dreary), contains a clutch of nail-biting sequences and features a razor-sharp turn from Oldman as the doleful spy brought in from the cold to unmask whichever one of his former colleagues is leaking secrets to the Russians. Besides Oldman, it’s Hardy who makes the biggest impression, bringing a touch of humanity to this barrel of cold public-school fish as Ricky Tarr, the anxious working-class operative with vital information. Cumberbatch, too, has great fun as Smiley’s trusted inside man.

There’s no doubt Alfredson could have used more running time simply to give a proper airing to all four potential traitors – Tinker (Jones), Tailor (Firth), Soldier (Hinds) and Poor Man (David Dencik) – and thus keep the audience guessing a while longer. Fans of the genre will finger the culprit early and without that added layer of suspicion, the big reveal is left feeling perfunctory, almost blasé. Minus that last cathartic gasp, Tinker Tailor Solder Spy settles for being a very good as opposed to a superb spy thriller.

Sorry, gals - we might not see Karl Urban's beautiful face in "Dredd"

Nice to see that one upcoming comic book movie's star wants his film to stay true to it's comic roots, especially by not showing the hero's face in the film. What? Well he is the law and a judge after all.

In a recent interview with Total Film, headliner of the Judge Dredd reboot, Karl Urban said the new film won't make the same mistake of showing the futuristic cop's face like was done in Stallone's Judge Dredd, but will instead follow the trend established in the comic.

"If anyone is familiar with Dredd, over the years there are many times when he removes his helmet but you never fully see his face," Urban said. "This was a construct by the writers because he represents a faceless system of justice and law."

Urban also poked a little fun at the idea of seeing a movie where Dredd's face did show up on the screen.

"I say this hypothetically. If I went to a movie called 'Judge Dredd' and the lead actor at one point took off his helmet so we could see his full face, I would just puke in my popcorn because that's not Dredd. He is mysterious and enigmatic. We're doing it right. It's gonna be harder, grittier and above all faithful to the comic. It's gonna kick ass."

I for one like and believe in Urban. I couldn't possibly imagine this version of Dredd being worse than the last one. And if it does end up sucking, at least he didn't plan to show his face in it.

Dredd was directed by Peter Travis (Vantage Point) and will be in theaters September 21, 2012.

IDK about this... I mean, yes it's THE Judge Dredd, but I like looking at Karl at the same time.

The Cyrus family does not approve.

In a week of big baby announcements — including Beyoncé and Jay-Z and Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck — the most shocking one is probably Disney darling Brenda Song and tattooed rocker Trace Cyrus.

The young couple, 23 and 22, revealed they were expecting their first child on Aug. 23 and the rest of the Cyrus clan isn’t quite sure what to think yet. The newest issue of OK! has all the info on the latest drama to rock the Cyrus family, including sister Miley‘s reaction!

According to an insider, grandma-to-be Tish has strong reservations about her son’s parenting potential but her husband Billy Ray is doing his best to keep her calm.

“Billy Ray keeps reminding her that Trace and Brenda are adults, they’re dating and they care for each other — it’s not like it was a one-night stand.”

Tish isn’t the only one with reservations though. Miley is “freaked out” about the pregnancy, a source tells OK!.

“From her perspective, Trace still looks like an angry teen, with rebellious tattoos and piercings — not someone ready to commit

Madonna is “really pleased that the audience was very welcoming” to W.E.

Madonna may not have charmed film critics with her second directorial effort, but she still has plenty of fans. Venice Film Festival source tells us the Material Girl got a "10-minute standing ovation" from the crowd that saw the premiere of her new picture "W.E.," in the Salle Grande on Thursday. Reviewers have not been so kind. The Hollywood Reporter deemed the picture - which alternates between the stories of Wallis Simpson and King Edward VIII and a contemporary N.Y.C. woman (Abbie Cornish) obsessed with their romance - a "sumptuous documentary about a young beauty on an exclusive shopping expedition." The bad notices didn't dim the buzz surrounding the party that Madonna held later that night on the terrace of theBauer Hotel there. Our insider says the guest list was limited to cast and crew and security was "extremely tight."

the top 11 lines from Nadia Oh's Colours

During May of this year, Nadia Oh released what is surely the best, most influential album of the year: Colours. Considered the "First Lady of Moombahton" by many, Nadia's impeccably produced album by former Lady Gaga producer Space Cowboy is an exhilarating journey through the clubbington life of London-based Oh (birth name Nadia Oates), and an exciting reflection of the dance music scene currently filling charts worldwide. Though no Bob Dylan lyrically, Nadia has penned some memorable, almost poignant words to accompany the dynamic sound of her music that truly reflect being a young adult in the 21st century. Below, in nor particular order, I've compiled some of the best found on the extraordinary work that you're currently not listening to.

A look at Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux's New Place

Gossip rags love it when A-list celebrities shack up with their non-A-list non-spouses, so here's some fodder for the week: Jennifer Aniston and boyfriend Justin Theroux have just rented out a two-bedroom Beverly Hills spread, and Realtor.com has gotten its hands on the photos. The most striking features of the 1,760-square-foot traditional-style house are its vaulted beadboard ceilings and the open cook's kitchen with rough-hewn flooring where many romantic dinners will soon transpire—could this modest abode be the force that domesticates Jeneroux? All in all, a low-key, uncontroversial choice with zero glitz—quite the opposite of Aniston's Arch Digest-kissed Ohana estate, which just sold for some $38M. No word yet what the couple is doling out in monthly rent.

ADELE TO RECORD JAMES BOND THEME?

British soul queen Adele has hinted that she is to record the latest James Bond theme song - and we think she would complement the world's most famous British secret agent perfectly.

Adele let the exciting news slip while appearing on Jonathan Ross' new chat show on Saturday night. When pressed by Ross about her return to the recording studio, the singer said: 'Well, this is actually a theme. Wow, that's really giving something away.'

The host replied: 'A theme?' before humming the signature James Bond music.

A blushing Adele said: 'It's a concept. One song'

The Someone Like You singer also opened up about her love life and said she hated being single. When Ross suggested her single status may be a result of her chart dominating albums 19 and 21 being autobiographical, Adele said she didn't write about her most recent relationship.

She said: 'To be honest, I got a bit burnt back in May, around my birthday, and I know he would be over the moon if I wrote a record about him. But no way is that boy getting a record about him. No way.'

drake being a wise man

"I just got a beat and did a verse over it,"
Drake
told MTV News from the red carpet for the BMI Urban Awards in L.A. on Friday before he accepted the award for Songwriter of the Year. "Whatever any other individual has to say, you have to ask the man himself. I just did what I know how to do. I just got on a record. I heard the beat, did a verse and heard the final product."

On the song, VMA nominee Wayne raps, "Talkin' 'bout Baby money? I got your Baby money/ Kidnap yo' bitch, get that how-much-you-love-your-lady money." To the casual listener, the line doesn't sound like much, but fanatics can connect the lyric directly to Jay-Z's jab on the Throne's "H.A.M."

It all started in 2009 when Cash Money CEO Bryan "Baby" Williams objected to Jay-Z topping MTV News' Hottest MCs list for that year. "I don't think he the number one MC, in no kinda way," Baby said, casting the first stone. "Wayne is the best, he do the most and he make the most money. I don't think no n---a in the business make more money than us."
