Britney Spears Accepts Video Vanguard Award, Arrival/Media Pics & Video (MTV Article So Expect Lulz)

It's only fitting for one princess of pop to fete another. And that's what happened when Lady Gaga stepped out onstage at the MTV Video Music Awards to pay tribute to Britney Spears with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Well, kind of. Gaga took the stage to honor Spears still in character as her male alter ego Jo Calderone, which she'd taken on for her show-opening performance earlier in the night. And that made things pretty interesting. Calderone opened by calling Spears an inspiration, saying, "She taught us all how to be fearless, and the industry wouldn't be the same without her." Calderone then went on to get a little personal about Spears. He told the audience he used to put up posters of the pop star on his bedroom wall and be inspired in non-musical ways.

It was a weird moment, but Calderone is a young guy of the right generation — a generation that would indeed have posters of Britney Spears on his/her wall. There's a reason, after all, she was being awarded the Vanguard Award. The tribute then turned into exactly what any great tribute to this particular diva should be: a dance party. (lulz) Spears is known as one of the biggest dance pop artists of her generation, and accordingly, dancers wearing Britney's most famous video looks took the stage to get down to her biggest hits, from "Baby One More Time" and "Crazy" to "Toxic" and "Do Somethin'."

By the time the sequence dissolved into a full-stage dance-off to Spears' recent smash "Till The World Ends," children also wearing Spears' myriad costumes popped up onstage alongside their grown-up dancing counterparts. It was a fitting way to show the impact Spears' music has had. From kids to adults, everyone knows and loves Britney. As the performance ended, Gaga-as-Calderone again grabbed the spotlight to introduce the pop star and did so with the kind of bravado that carried him through his monologue earlier in the show. "Everybody, stand the f--- up," Calderone demanded.

Looking better than ever and glowing from all the praise, Spears then took the stage. Calderone certainly liked what he saw, eyeing the singer before stepping forward for a semi-awkward stare-down. But Gaga, er, Calderone eventually got what he wanted: a quick kiss from the one and only Britney Spears. He wanted more, however, but alas, it just wasn't going to happen. Being a classy guy, Calderone brushed off Britney's dismissal of his advances with a cool, "I don't want Gaga to get pissed."

Spears seemed thankful for the prize but used her time to shine the spotlight on another artist: Beyoncé. (Lord hold me back, you guys had her do that) Spears introduced Queen B's unstoppable performance of the amazing 4 track "Love on Top" — at the end of which Beyoncé revealed her pregnant belly.

Nina Dobrev on the set of Vampire Diaries

Nina Dobrev is spotted on the set of The Vampire Diaries in Decatur, Georgia last week. The pretty star was rocking some super short shorts – which is no big deal when you have legs as nice as hers!

Ian Somerhalder was also spotted on set – check out all the pics in the gallery. And don’t miss The Vampire Diaries page for more pics from set.

Check out Nina and the rest of The Vampire Diaries stars in the latest issue of Rolling Stone. Ian told the mag that if you’re not watching the show, you’re missing out:

“The whole Twilight thing is about to be over. And teenage girls can’t watch True Blood with their parents – that would just get weird. So we’re getting ready to kick some major ass this season.”

Kyle Chandler Joins Ben Affleck’s ARGO

The cast of Ben Affleck’s next directorial project Argo continues to be awesome, as Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler is the latest to sign on. The Warner Bros. pic now boasts Affleck, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Alan Arkin, and Scoot McNairy as part of its stellar cast. USA Today reports (via The Playlist) that Chandler’s role is a small one, but doesn’t add any further details. The film is based upon a 2007 Wired magazine article entitled “How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to Rescue Americans from Tehran.” The feature documents a rescue mission launched by the CIA for a group of diplomats in Tehran that involved a rouse to convince the Iranian government that the diplomats were actually a Hollywood film crew scouting locations.

Affleck is set in the lead role as the CIA exfiltration expert who develops the plan, with Arkin playing a Hollywood producer who’s also an
O.S.S. veteran and is described as “equal parts bookie and rabbi,” Cranston onboard as an Irish CIA agent from Boston, and Goodman playing Oscar-winning Planet of the Apes makeup artist John Chambers who aids the CIA in their mission. George Clooney and Grant Heslov are producing under their Smokehouse banner. Argo is eyeing a 2012 release.

'Hunger Games' VMA Teaser 'Epic,' Experts Say

Fan sites say Jennifer Lawrence 'captured Katniss onscreen.'

Ever since production began on "The Hunger Games," fans around the world have been waiting patiently for a first look at footage of heroine Katniss Everdeen in action. MTV News was very happy to provide that first-ever teaser, which star Jennifer Lawrence introduced to the world during the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night.

Given the excitement surrounding our exclusive look at footage of the big-screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins' beloved dystopian bestseller, MTV News sought out three "Hunger Games" experts to get their reactions to seeing Katniss' survival skills first-hand.

"That was epic," gushed Samus Belle of fan site Sparks Will Fly. "I'm so excited. Especially seeing Jennifer Lawrence running through the whole arena, she looked like a hunter," Belle said. "She just captured Katniss onscreen."

Kimmy West, of agreed with Belle on Lawrence's spot-on portrayal: "Jennifer Lawrence is just embodying Katniss," West said. "The big trait about Katniss is that she's animalistic when she hunts. You can totally tell that she's been training so much for that shot," West explained of seeing Lawrence wield a bow and fire an arrow in the clip. "She really looks like a pro."

Your daily Adam Scott post!

Adam Scott isn’t taking anything for granted, even though he’s now on an Emmy-nominated comedy, “Parks and Recreation,” and part of a killer ensemble in the new comedy “Our Idiot Brother.” Scott plays one of the few people enamored by the titular idiot, Ned (played by Paul Rudd), in a cast that includes Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, Steve Coogan and many more. Metro caught up with Scott to talk about couch-surfing, Emmy recognition and the legacy — and future — of “Party Down.”

The VMAs: Britney Spears, Amy Winehouse, and MTV's Split Identity

When MTV celebrated its 30th anniversary earlier this month, most of the chatter surrounding the event shared a common theme: MTV doesn't really play music videos anymore. And yet the network's Video Music Awards, which take place on Sunday night, remain MTV's most-watched, most-hyped, and most-talked-about program. But maybe that's because the show embodies the tension between the way MTV once was and the way it is now.

Look no further than the two tribute performances scheduled for Sunday to see this tension in action. A cast of pop stars will pay homage to both the recently deceased Amy Winehouse and the recently resurgent Britney Spears. The two are among the most important female artists of the past decade, and represent the two very different versions of MTV. Winehouse's legacy and relationship with MTV aligns with everything the network stood for when video killed the radio star 25 years ago: rebellion, discovery, edginess, and the craft. Spears, on the other hand, encompasses all that MTV, for better or worse, has grown to represent: spectacle, celebrity, controversy, and, arguably, the victory of style over substance.

JWOWW Says Weight Loss, Not Surgery, Changed Her Face

For everyone who thinks JWOWW looks a little different in Florence compared to prior seasons of "Jersey Shore," you'll get no arguments from the bikini beauty. But it might not be for the reason you assume.

"People are saying I got cheek implants, my chin shaved down and a nose job," JWOWW tells InTouch Weekly. "If I got work done, I would be open to talking about it. I didn't."

Jenni says that diet, exercise and weight loss, along with boyfriend Roger's encouragement, have helped her drop some baby fat she was apparently carrying earlier on in the series' run.

"I don't want to lose any more weight. I just want to keep toning and eating healthy," she says. "I'll probably get Botox by the time I'm 30, and have my breast implants redone in a few years after I've had kids."

Well, there you have it--straight from the pretty horse's mouth (which is fuller as a result of a new makeup routine, not injections).

JoJo Debuts New Single, "Disaster"

Nearly five years after releasing her fourth second album, JoJo spreads her wings once again on “Disaster,” the first official single from her oft-delayed third album Jumping Trains. The pop-rock tune, which is reminiscent of her past hits “Leave (Get Out)” and “Too Little Too Late,” boasts an aggressive guitar riff and JoJo’s powerhouse vocals.

“It’s about how you end up in this place in a relationship and you’re like, ‘Where did this storm come from? How did I get so deep into something that ugly and hard to remove yourself from?’” JoJo tells “It’s a very honest record, but there’s definitely a resilient quality to it at the end.”

Handler attended the party for Standard Hotel employees on the restored boat in the Hudson River, docked north of Chelsea Piers, with Balazs on Monday.

Squirrel murderer to star in Oldboy remake

It looks like Spike Lee has got the man he wanted for his gestating “Oldboy” remake.

Last month, it was revealed that Josh Brolin was topping Mandate‘s wishlist for the lead role in the film and they’ve landed their first choice. Say what you will about remakes, and we definitely have had our issues with them, but the combination of Lee and Brolin is certainly very, very promising. The original film by Park Chan-Wook is based on the manga by writers Nobuaki Minegishi and Garon Tsuchiya and is a very twisted story of revenge about a man kidnapped and imprisoned for fifteen years seemingly for random reasons. When the imprisoned man is finally released, he discovers he must find his captor’s motives in five days or the abductor will kill a recent female friend that the innocent man has made. Without spoiling the motivations or the twist, the Korean film provides a different motivation for the shocking climax than the manga does in addition to slightly reshaping the story. Apparently, for Lee’s film, screenwriter Mark Protosevich is using both the Korean film and the Japanese book as the basis for his script (and we presume it’ll drop some of the more salacious elements for mainstream audiences)

Disney renews "Good Luck Charlie" for a third season

Disney Channel has renewed Good Luck Charlie for a third season. The cable network said Monday that Season 3 of the comedy series revolving around a teenage girl (Bridgit Mendler) who makes video diaries about her family for her baby sister (Mia Talerico) would premiere in 2012 with production resuming in Los Angeles.

The series also has inspired a Disney Channel telefilm, Good Luck Charlie, It’s Christmas! set for December.

I like this show, so yay! I'm also going to complain that my school doesn't have Disney, which sucks, and I'd gladly trade the multiple sports channels and the three MTVs for it.

The 5 Worst Dressed at the VMAs: An ONTD Original

As I was sitting the pitch black last night, awaiting the end of Hurricane Irene from the Real World: Seattle, I was overcome with sadness that I was unable to watch the VMAs or read snarky comments from my beloved and pressed ONTD. And boy was I not disappointed. The beautiful people looked like absolute shit and I loved every minute of it. Here are 5 of the worst...

'One Tree Hill': Chad Michael Murray returns for Season 9

Drumroll, please! The CW has confirmed that Chad Michael Murray will return to "One Tree Hill" for a guest star appearance in Season 9. Though his on-screen wife Hilarie Burton's return is looking less and less likely given her commitment to USA's "White Collar," we're thrilled that at least one half of "Leyton" will be back in Tree Hill one last time.

The last time we saw Lucas Scott, he was riding off into the sunset with his family, and the only explanation we got for his absence was the Season 4 premiere title: "4:30 A.M. (Apparently They Were Travelling Abroad)" from the Roger Walters song.

After missing Brooke's wedding, the birth of his niece, and Haley's mother's funeral over the last few years, we can't help but wonder what finally does bring Luke back to town. It may not be the most pleasant of family reunions, considering Dan Scott (Paul Johansson) is in Tree Hill full-time once again, and their relationship was still tense when Lucas skipped town.

Though episode number isn't confirmed, we're hearing that Murray's episode may not, in fact, be the series finale, as many have speculated. With any luck, it will be an episode that also features his on-screen brother James Lafferty, whose role this season has been cut back to seven episodes. We're dying to see them reunited.

"One Tree Hill" will return to The CW's schedule in 2012.

Justin Bieber Brings His ‘Johnson’ To The MTV VMAs

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Britney Spears isn’t the only pop star fond of bringing boa constrictors to the MTV Video Music Awards.

On Sunday night, the Canadian superstar singer brought a little reptile with him to the awards show.

“It’s a boa constrictor,” the teenage prankster and pop star told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson on the red carpet as he carried the reptile into the event.

While a source told Access Hollywood for a story published on Saturday that “Punk’d” is returning to MTV,  with Justin Bieber having pranked Taylor Swift for the first episode back (a premiere date has not yet been announced), Justin was straight faced when he revealed what the snake is called.

“His name’s Johnson. I’m serious,” Justin said, adding, “You want to hold my Johnson?”

When Britney brought a snake to the VMAs back in 2001 she used it in her “I’m A Slave 4 U” performance, but Justin had another reason.

Why though?” Shaun asked, referring to Justin dragging the snake along to the event.

“Why not?” Justin replied.

And he was ready to introduce Johnson (a friend’s snake) to girlfriend Selena Gomez later in the evening.

“Selena’s… She’s going to like it,” he said.

Gemma Ward cast in The Great Gatsby

AUSTRALIAN model-turned-actor Gemma Ward has bagged her first major film role since 2008's The Black Balloon, after being added to the ever-increasing cast of Baz Luhrmann's film adaptation.

Ward, quiet on the career front since the death of her former beau Heath Ledger three years ago, will have a "significant" part in The Great Gatsby, which begins shooting in Sydney next week.

Aside from a small role in Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides -- in which she played Tamara, Queen of the Mermaids -- the 24-year-old has dabbled in modelling and theatre.

"I have taken a break from the media spotlight for the past few years and it was something spurred by Heath's death," Ward said earlier this year.

Ward is expected to join the rest of The Great Gatsby A-list cast this week.

When asked what scares her, she jokes that “Topshop on a bank holiday” is very frightening, adding, “I made the mistake of getting off the plane and going straight there. It was terrifying!”

Beyoncé gave an incredible performance of "Love on Top" at last night's Video Music Awards -- but it's the five seconds afterward, when she dramatically revealed her baby bump, that's got everybody talking! Though she flaunted her belly on the red carpet before the show, her post-performance tummy rub was the real "wow!" moment: We got to see hubby Jay-Z grinning ear-to-ear while pal Kanye West jumped up and down in excitement. Another friend who's thrilled for Beyoncé and her man: her former Destiny's Child group-mate Kelly Rowland. "I have known for quite a while, and she's happy, and Jay is happy, and that's all that counts," Rowland told People. Rowland, 30, also expressed confidence in Beyoncé's abilities as a mother. "I think she'll be an incredible mother, because she's always been motherly," said the singer. "I think that she takes after so many traits from her mother. And I just think it's going to be so natural for her. It's natural for her now!" Beyoncs mother Tina Knowles ran her own hair salon while Beyoncé was growing up, then became the costume designer for Destiny's Child -- and still works with her daughters today. As role models go, Beyoncé could do worse! While the pregnancy announcement was a cleverly-staged surprise, Beyoncé, who turns 30 on Sept. 4, has been forthright about her plans to have a family one day. The diva has said in the past that she wanted to have a baby at 30 -- although in a June interview with Piers Morgan, she added, "But I also said I was gonna retire at 30. And I'm not retiring!" As for those baby plans, at the time she said, "Only God knows." Well, now the rest of the world knows too! Source

This is not Greer’s first time invading Men‘s turf. Back in 2007, she played Myra, a love interest for Charlie. It also marks a reunion for Greer and Kutcher. Greer starred in the ABC comedy Miss/Guided, which was exec produced by Kutcher.

As we previously reported, Duff was dropped from the flick after she got knocked up.

Kristin Chenoweth Talks Gay Boyfriend and Being a Queer-Loving Christian

On the heels of a new album, singer opens up about everything gay - including that Newsweek debacle

One of the most happy-go-lucky ladies in showbiz, Kristin Chenoweth doesn't get miffed very easily. But when she does, she does. And last year she did, after Newsweek published a commentary on the inability of gay actors to play straight roles. It upset the 43-year-old actress/singer so much she wrote an extensive letter to the magazine, calling the article "horrendously homophobic," which was published shortly after the debacle - and which she spoke about during this interview.

Chenoweth's allegiance to the gay community goes way back to being a child and growing up in the South - a place she returned to for her latest album, "Some Lessons Learned" (out Sept. 13), her first of four to fully embrace her country roots. But her success hasn't been confined to just the music business; Chenoweth's broke out on Broadway, where she originated the role of Glinda in "Wicked" and most recently starred alongside "Will & Grace" star Sean Hayes in "Promises, Promises." There's also been a book (2009's "A Little Bit Wicked: Life, Love and Faith in Stages"), and several TV spots: "Pushing Daisies," "Glee" and, coming soon to ABC, "Good Christian Belles."

So we had lots to talk about when we recently caught up with Chenoweth, who was on a dinner break from shooting her upcoming sitcom. During it, she discussed her history of dating gay men, her opinion on Michele Bachmann's support for gay conversion clinics and being a little bit wicked.

Whitney Houston once got intimate with Michael Jackson's pet monkey Bubbles

IF you’re of a nervous disposition . . . don’t read on!

David Gest, in his Michael Jackson documentary, to premiere in the UK on October 24, recalls when the late star’s monkey Bubbles got up close and personal with Whitney Houston.

He reveals: “Whitney was having dinner with Michael at his Neverland home when she accidentally dropped her knife under the table. While Michael was retrieving it for her, Whitney felt her toes being sucked. She moaned, ‘Michael, is that you? Don’t stop. That’s so sensual’. Yet Michael’s head popped up and her toes were still being sucked. It turned out it was Bubbles.”

Houston herself was interviewed by Gest for his upcoming documentary on the King of Pop . . . though it's unclear whether she is the source of such a "toe-curling" story or not.

Gest previously told the British tabloid, The Sun, that Jackson's "all-time favorite vocalist was Whitney Houston. Michael always said she could sing the Yellow Pages and it would sound great."

Kate Mulgrew on her visit to the Warehouse

Kate Mulgrew is already a legend in the sci-fi world: On the celebrated Star Trek: Voyager, she played Captain (and later Admiral!) Kathryn Janeway, the only female captain to serve as a lead character in a Star Trek series. Now, Mulgrew's returning to the sci-fi genre with a guest arc on Warehouse 13. She's set to play the role of Jane, one of the Warehouse's mysterious Regents. Along with a number of other sci-fi journalists (and from the sounds of things, Voyager fans), I had the chance to ask her a few questions about the upcoming role and about the indelible mark she's made on the sci-fi canon. I had to summon all my courage--after all, Mulgrew is the voice of Flemeth, the shapeshifting witch of the wilds in the Dragon Age video games--but I managed to get some good info for Warehouse fans. Here's what she had to say!

Haters Gonna Hate

Last night at the MTV Video Music Awards, Brian Friedman, who has choreographed many of Britney Spears' music videos, including "Hold It Against Me" and this year's "Till the World Ends," responded to critics of Spears' dancing of late.

"You know, nitpicking or not, she's on the top of the world," Friedman said. "She's being honored (by the VMAs). She's always on the top of the charts. So, as many haters, there are lovers."

Spears' has been criticized in the recent past for her sometimes tentative dancing on stage -- both in TV appearances and on tour. Her stints on ABC's "Good Morning America" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in March set social networks ablaze with commenters knocking her moves. However, critics were a little less harsh on the diva once her Femme Fatale tour launched in June.

Friedman was nominated for the best choreography award last night at the VMAs for his work on "Till the World Ends," but lost to Frank Gatson, Sheryl Murakami and Jeffrey Page -- the team behind Beyonce's "Run the World (Girls)." The video for "Till" did win a Moonman though, for best pop video, which Spears accepted on stage. [hold it against me]
